Delphi

Delphi is a town in Phocis, Greece, situated immediately west of the archaeological site of the same name. It was created as a home for the population of Kastri, which was relocated to allow for the excavation of the site of ancient Delphi. Wikipedia.

Museums
The Delphi Archaeological Museum is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the ancient site of Delphi. Just a short stroll from the archaeological ruins, this museum was established in the early 20th century to showcase an impressive collection of artifacts unearthed during excavations. Visitors can marvel at architectural sculptures, pottery, and inscriptions that date back as far as the 15th century BC. The exhibits provide fascinating insights into ancient Greek religion, art, and daily life in Delphi.
A wonderful little museum. The rich history of the site is well displayed in an ordered museum. We visited on a Wednesday at about midday. The museum was very busy, in particular the tour groups which whizzed through were cramming the whole place up. These should really be limited in size. Some really great pieces are in the museum and we both really enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

Really incredible visit. The views are top notch and the entire site is exquisite to visit and learn about. We were nervous about the time to drive up from Athens, but we hired a driver for the day and it was worth every bit of the cost. Not only a driver, but guiding us along the drive and pointing us in the right direction once at the site. Worth doing, don’t drive yourself and I’d avoid the massive tour buses. Very much worth a visit all around. Do the site first and museum second. Bring water and be prepared for hills.
Alexander W — Google review
Wonderful museum and archeological site closed to the modern village of Delphi. The museum has wonderful artifacts but is not overpoweringly large. There is a good flow through the development of Delphi as a sacred site and it's demise before being restored by the Romans. The archilogical site is deceptively large, winding a long way up the mountainside. Allow at least 90 minutes to see the whole site. Cafe at museum ticket office serves good coffee and sandwiches. The shop is a bit twee but has some interesting items. Main downside of the site is the toilets. There is nowhere near enough for the volume of visitors and the inevitable queues and lack of cleanliness are quite offputiing. Much better to take the short walk into a taverna in the village, and probably as quick

Delphi was absolutely breathtaking — one of the highlights of my trip to Greece. The combination of stunning mountain views, ancient ruins, and peaceful atmosphere makes it a truly special place. Walking through the archaeological site, you can really feel the history and imagine what it must have been like thousands of years ago. The Temple of Apollo, the ancient theater, and the stadium are incredible to see up close, and the museum adds great context with beautifully preserved artifacts. Everything is well organized and easy to explore, and the scenery surrounding the site is simply majestic — it feels almost spiritual.
Arash — Google review
We visited ancient site first due to rain, but recommend museum first. Great exhibits. Do not miss an allow at least 2 hours. Came later in the day and seemed ho be thinning out. Lots if tourist busses. Also was able to park on street close to museum for free. Lots of great artifacts and pieces of history.
EveryDayGlory ! — Google review
Lots to see, varying degrees of difficulty great for individuals with wide range of physical capabilities, and must have a good knowledgeable guide to bring the site to life. Little known fact, a landslide in the last few years has made the area around and access to the Athena temple a restricted no entry area. However, there are plenty of amazing views and spaces to rest in the shade that allows you to soak it all up.
Dana E — Google review
Delphi and the museum are just wonderful. There really is something special about the site and the museum is concise and has great information about the history of the area and more. Definitely worth the visit! My only drawback was the very expensive cafe at the museum - I bought a half a tiny pizza that was tasty but somewhat dry and far, far too costly.
Franco F — Google review
It was a long drive from Athens but it was worth it. If you have time, it's definitely worth seeing there. The same ticket works both for the Museum a d the Archeological Site. Beautiful history and well preserved statues. Highly recommended 👌🏼

The Temple of Apollo in Delphi, Greece, is a remarkable ancient structure dedicated to the god Apollo. Despite its current state of ruins, the temple's grandeur is still evident through its massive Doric columns and expansive foundation. The site offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valley and archaeological area. Delphi itself holds UNESCO World Heritage status and was once a prominent center for Greek city states to present votive offerings.
It’s a fantastic place. You can really feel the energies here. The ancient temples, the location itself, and the view are breathtaking. It fills you with good energy. A short meditation around the temple is wonderful. The whole place is in such a beautiful setting. The nearby town has very nice hotels and restaurants.

Worth the money and the trip. Gorgeous ruins and views. Very informative museum along the site. You might wanna go around morning or afternoon to avoid high noon sun.
Alex M — Google review
It is humbling to see how advanced the ancient Greek were, compared with the rest of Europe. A really impressive site to visit. The walk to the stadium is quite a climb. (Not hard, just exhausting in warm weather) If you really want to see it, go for it. It is beautiful. I would surely recommend getting a top view from the theatre, to really see how big the site is. Also, dont forget to visit the museum. Perhaps visit the museum first. And remember the statues you see there. A lot of pieces of the puzzle will fall in to place at the site. As you can hardly imagine how things would have looked
Jelle — Google review
The site itself is relatively compact and, to further that feeling, when we visited the Athena part of the monument was temporarily closed. The space is well kept, and even or a rainy day the site was still very accessible with no security concerns due to slippery terrains. The temple of Apollo was amazing and everything from top to bottom was stunning, especially in context with the rest of the remnants like the treasury and the market. Didn’t have time to visit the museum, however, I still found it very much enjoyable and interesting.
João C — Google review
An unforgettable experience. After visiting the museum we climbed the hill up to Apollo's temple. The place has a certain atmosphere, which cuts through even when the huge tour groups rumble through each area. If you have any interest in the Oracle you must come to see this magical place. Ask Apollo for advice at his temple, which is the centre of the universe, and wait for a sign. The views are stunning and the only negative is I wished it hadn't been so busy. Perhaps try to visit at a quieter time of year. Highly recommended.

A great place to visit some ruins. Beautiful. Striking. Imposing. Impressive. They’re in the process to add a cafe by the entrance. A few cats that are hungry, they come to visits expectedly for food.

The famous Temple of Apollo at the Delphi archaeological site, located between the beautiful town of Arachova and the modern village of Delphi, is absolutely worth visiting and highly recommended. The place where the temple stands feels magical—you can truly connect with the surrounding nature. There’s something special about the mountains, the golden-yellow flowers scattered everywhere, and the lush green trees. A helpful tip: be prepared for plenty of walking. It’s like an easy hike up to the upper part of the site, where you’ll find a stunning ancient stadium and breathtaking views.

Very nice area on the top side of a mountain with a nice view. A lot of history here and informational plaques. There’s also plenty of staff around the help keep things moving and answer any questions. Would recommend taking a trip out here if your looking for places near Athens to explore

The Ancient Theater of Delphi is a place of grandeur, nestled between the Phaedriades cliffs and Mt. Profitis Ilias. The view from the theater is breathtaking, with incredible acoustics that enhance the experience. It's recommended to purchase tickets in advance, especially if visiting between 10 am and 2 pm. The official government website Odysseus offers ticket purchases with designated entry times.
It was a lovely experience visiting the archaeological site and the museum. There is also a souvenir shop and cafe near the museum. The exhibition in the museum was easy to follow, informative and English texts were available. Unfortunately no audio guide was available. The archaeological site was interesting to visit though you need some imagination. Visiting the site and museum can take around 2.5 hours. Ticket costed 12 euros per adult. An improvement idea is to offer VR 3D experience for enthusiasts so you can immerse yourself in the experience and get a real-life feeling of those awesome buildings. Audio guide was not available which can be appreciated.

This ancient theatre built up in the mountains is truly a beautiful site to see. Just imagine watching a live play here back in the ancient times would’ve been a magical experience. You can visit this site using your general entrance pass to the archeological site as well.

I came from athens in a rental car. It took 2h30 but it was fully worth it 👌 no wonder the ancient Greeks called Delphi : The center of the Universe. This place is that amazing 👏

Enjoyed the small hike up the mountain to see all the ancient sites of Delphi. The museum was also included. The facility was very clean and informative. The staff was well versed in the history of Delphi.

The Theatre of Delphi sits just above the Temple of Apollo and offers one of the most breathtaking views in the sanctuary, overlooking the valley of the Pleistos. Built in the 4th century BC and later expanded in Roman times, it could seat around 5,000 spectators. Here, musical and dramatic contests of the Pythian Games were held, honoring Apollo not only as an oracle but also as the god of music and poetry. Walking up to the theatre takes some effort, but the reward is standing in a place where ancient crowds once gathered, with the temple below and the mountains all around. For me it’s one of the most atmospheric spots in Delphi – part history, part landscape, and completely unique

Parking: There is a car park and also plenty of parking spots available on the side of the road. Opening hours (all sites): the museum shuts early on some days so be aware of that when planning. Walking: The theater, stadium, Apollo’s temple etc require some walking so wear comfortable shoes. The site location: The museum, the theater (and other sites on that side of the hill) and the temple of Athena are a few hundred meters walk from each other, you can either walk across to each or if it’s not so busy on the road then park by each location. Ticket prices: are 12e each and the museum entry is included in the price. Toilets: No toilets up on the hill where the temple of Apollo, theater etc are (not down by the tholos of Athena, so be aware of that before making the walk up. Museum: The museum is relatively small but has a lot of items to check out. It can take 20min-1h to see all depending on your pace. This is a must visit if you have the time when in Greece, it’s 2.5-3h drive from Athens but totally worth it. Weather: Visiting in April was good because it wasn’t too hot yet. 20ish degrees. It’s outside and mainly exposed to if you’re visiting on the summer or hot times then bring sun protection. Accommodation: There are hotels within 5min driving distance and most of them are good quality. I stayed at Nidimos in Delphi center.

The Ancient Stadium of Delphi offers a unique experience for visitors, serving as the venue for various cultural events such as the Summer Arts Festival organized by the European Cultural Centre of Delphi. This historic site was once home to the Pythian Games and could accommodate up to 6,000 spectators on its tiered stone seating. The stadium's unpaved trail leads visitors to discover ancient starting blocks and other remnants from its glorious past.
Wow! Roman stadium built in the famous Sanctuary of Delphi. Although this is a Greek site, the Romans ruled Greece from the 2nd century BC until 4th century AD. They built the stadium and the theater. You see these and the entire sanctuary with museum with one ticket for 6 euro. Park on the street and walk in. We had no wait but we were off season. I bet it is crowded as heck during season.
Paul — Google review
Nice local museum with archaelogical artefact. Spent €20 per pax for both the ruins and the museum. there were water cooler and toilet outside of museum. Nice short hiking at the ruins. We spent about 3 hour in total for both ruins and museum. Generally recommended. Good to come early to avoid the tourist crowd. Parking was limited.
El A — Google review
The Ancient Stadium of Delphi is located further uphill from the theater, and it’s worth the climb. Surrounded by trees and with a peaceful atmosphere, it’s fascinating to picture ancient athletic competitions held here. The view from the stadium is beautiful, making it a rewarding end to exploring the archaeological site. 非常建議大家一定要走上來,真的不會太累
Alec T — Google review
Perched high above the Temple of Apollo, the Stadium of Delphi is one of the best-preserved ancient stadiums in Greece. Originally built in the 5th century BC and later renovated in stone by the Roman benefactor Herodes Atticus in the 2nd century AD, it could host around 6,500 spectators. The track measures about 177 meters in length, with starting grooves still visible today. The stadium was the stage for the athletic contests of the Pythian Games, held every four years in honor of Apollo. Victors were crowned with laurel wreaths, symbolizing the sacred tree of the god. Surrounded by the dramatic slopes of Mount Parnassus, the stadium not only evokes the spirit of ancient competition but also offers one of the most breathtaking views of the sanctuary and the valley below.
César F — Google review
It’s a bit of an uphill walk, so if you aren’t in the best of health, I’d recommend staying closer to the Temple of Apollo. That being said, the stadium was very cool to see and also provides a commanding view of the mountains and valley below. If you’ve driven this far to Delphi, take the extra time to walk up to the stadium.
Colin W — Google review
It was such a hike to get up there, but it was amazing, and definitely worth the time! Make sure you bring enough water because you will need it after the trek up! There are plenty of trees for shade and they have benches to sit on and rest, too. It is unbelievable how well preserved it is!
Rachel — Google review
It was very busy when we went here. Not a long walk to get to the stadium. A lot of other ruins to see along the way. It was amazing to see the ruins of Ancient Greece. Not much shade along the way. Bring plenty of water and a hat or umbrella for shade.

The Tholos of Athena Pronaia is an ancient Greek temple located at the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia, dating back to the 4th century BCE. The site features a well-preserved tholos, or rotunda, often mistaken by tourists as the location of the Pythia, priestess of Apollo. Pilgrims would traditionally begin their visit here before proceeding to the Temple of Apollo.
It’s absolutely incredible!! Start at the Kastalian Spring and then come here before venturing up the sacred way. If you do that, you’ll be following the same path that pilgrims to the oracles would have taken thousands of years ago!
Jed T — Google review
My visit to the Tholos of Athena Pronaia was truly captivating. The circular temple, even in its ruined state, exudes a profound sense of history and architectural grace. Standing there, amidst the remnants of its Doric and Ionic columns, it's easy to imagine the grandeur it once possessed. The setting against the backdrop of the Delphi landscape is breathtaking, adding to the spiritual and aesthetic experience. It's a place that invites contemplation about ancient Greek civilization and its enduring legacy. A definite highlight of any trip to Delphi!
Arch S — Google review
Our visit to the Tholos of Athena Pronaia was a peaceful and captivating experience that offered a unique contrast to the main Delphi Archaeological Site. This ancient sanctuary, a short drive from the central Delphi site, is nestled within Greece's beautiful, rugged landscape, bringing a sense of serenity to those who venture here. After our time exploring the Delphi Archaeological Site and Museum, we headed towards the Tholos. Arriving at around 14:00, we parked alongside the road close to the entrance, finding it conveniently accessible. A few road signs pointed us in the right direction, and the main entrance, marked by a railing, provided a helpful landmark. We came prepared with water bottles, as the summer sun was intense, making hydration essential for a comfortable experience. The path leading to the Tholos has a rustic charm, winding through patches of dirt and cobblestone that add to the site’s ancient character. The walk was enjoyable, but those with mobility challenges should be mindful, as the terrain can be uneven. As we reached the Tholos, we were greeted by the serene beauty of the circular structure surrounded by olive trees and green grape bushes. The contrast between this quiet grove and the grandeur of Delphi’s main sanctuary was striking, making this site feel almost like a hidden sanctuary. The Tholos itself is an impressive piece of ancient Greek architecture, featuring Doric columns on the outer ring and Corinthian columns within. Dedicated to Athena, this circular temple stands as a testament to the refined craftsmanship of the Greeks, showcasing their ability to balance artistry with spiritual reverence. Standing amidst these columns, one can imagine the rituals and reverence that once filled this place. Entry to the Tholos of Athena Pronaia is completely free, and the site is open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., allowing ample time to fit it into a day of exploring Delphi. This spot is a must-visit for anyone in the area, offering a unique, quieter perspective on ancient Greek spirituality and a tranquil place to reflect amidst stunning surroundings. We wholeheartedly recommend making the trip to experience this gem firsthand.
Carlos R — Google review
The site is not open summer of 2025 due to rockfall concerns. Can be seen at a distance from the Delphi Archaeological site.
Jill P — Google review
The path is fairly short but steep at times. Probably best to avoid it if you have mobility difficulty. While there aren't many structures the view from the valley at this point is stunning.
Matthew B — Google review
Make sure not to miss!!! It's a little hidden away and farther up the road than the Delphi Archaeological Museum but it's a great stop. When we went there wasn't any persons there but to walk along the tholos was breathtaking. It's not as preserved as some of the other ruined but still very interesting and unique. Well worth the 15-20min stop needed to walk around.
Paige V — Google review
Visited March 2024 The Oracle location was closed when we went and no one was able to view it. You still can see it from the top of the ridge and we got a few photos.
Kirk B — Google review
From the glory days of this complex not much left but the original blocks and stone are still there just there is no money to complete the rebuild of the place and it is such a shame . Originally there were 5 buildings . 2 temples of Athena , two treasury buildings and a building for the armory . Now there is only one monument left which was partially reconstructed . It looks amazing nonetheless. We should spend money to preserve such incredible places no matter the costs .

Taverna Vakhos is a charming family-owned restaurant that offers a modern twist on traditional Greek cuisine. What sets it apart is its wide range of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options, all sourced locally including their own olives and olive oil. The restaurant also boasts a diverse wine list featuring local and organic selections. Guests can enjoy stunning views from the terrace and valley-view dining room. The menu features an array of traditional Greek dishes alongside plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices.
Want a great view and great food? This is the place. The menu is very authentic Greek. You must try the stuffed peepers for appetizers. Baklava dessert comes with every meal. I’m from Chicago. Visiting family in Greece and stopped here while visiting Delphi.

One of the best meals we had during our trip to Greece. This place uses local ingredients and showcases home style cooking. Excellent eggplant salad (we order it at all restaurants to compare the preparation), tasty Greek salad and the main dishes of traditional lamb with lemon and goat with greens were very good. And try the yogurt with fir honey for dessert, it's delicious. And the views from the terrace are gorgeous.
Ora T — Google review
Beautiful view! Interesting and delicious vegan and vegetarian menu! It was fun to try a delicious Greek dish and not a boring salad! I had vegan stuffed grape leaves as an appetizer and stuffed onions. My husband had the stuffed peppers with feta and a pasta pesto dish (which was a bit different than expected and more like a dumpling but just as delicious) the food was so tasty and the sunset views over the valley beautiful! The price was great! And they provided complimentary fruit for dessert! Definitely recommend!

Easiest 5 start i can give. Staff is very friendly. They reserve the tables on the window side but also allowed a couple without reservation to sit 6 person table by themselves. Food was amazing. I was just going to taste it but i couldn’t stop myself from finishing everything. Olive paste they serve is a delight. View is amazing. Prices are fair.. maybe low compared to other restaurants…

We went to Greece for 10 days and had the best food experience in this restaurant (the experience in Greece was generally pretty good). We stayed in Delphi for 4 days and ended up eating there once every day. We intentionally chose the "home cooking" dishes from the menu, and it was worth it.
FleetingcloudRG — Google review
1,000,000% our favorite place we ate during 2.5 weeks in Greece. I’m vegetarian, so primarily ordered veggie-centric dishes. We came two nights in a row and ordered the gigantes both night. The homemade vermouth is *fantastic*, the wine and beer list is superb, and prices are extremely reasonable for the quality of food and ambiance. This is truly a spot for foodies and folks who are excited about a meal prepared with with quality, locally-sourced ingredients. Oh, and the view… utterly stunning at sunset and dusk. It feels like being perched atop the edge of the world. A note for the owners: I would LOVE for you to publish a Taverna Vakhos cookbook.

Nestled in a charming 19th-century stone building, 'To Patriko Mas' is a delightful family-run Greek Mediterranean restaurant that offers an elevated rustic dining experience. The menu features an array of delectable options, from traditional appetizers to hearty pastas and risottos, alongside grilled fish and meats. Diners can savor local specialties like country lamb, deer, and rooster while enjoying the stunning views over the valley from the expansive garden terrace.
Lovely restaurant in Delphi with a stunning view — you can see the sea in the distance and watch the sun set behind the mountains. This is real, authentic Greek food — not the usual dishes you might find at a typical Greek restaurant elsewhere. Be sure to try the traditional specialties they’re proud of, like the Eggplant à la Grecque as a starter and the slow-cooked lamb fricassee as a main. Absolutely delicious — highly recommended!

Great food and service! A lovely view as well! I got the hot soup (cold wasn’t available at the time), the leek pie and the Greek salad. Probably my favourite Greek salad I’ve had on my trip through Greece so far. They also brought out a small creme caramel for after that was tasty. A bit on the pricier side compared to other restaurants in Greece, but hey, live a little! My friend got the vegan green bean salad and that was also very tasty. I would definitely recommend eating here (aim for sunset) if you’re spending time in Delphi.

We have been traveling throughout Greece for 3 weeks now and have had wonderful meals but tonight’s dinner was the best. From the beautiful scenery, lovely ambience, professional staff to the delicious food, To Patriko Mas wins a solid 5 star rating. We shared the dolmadakia , I had the moussaka and spouse had the tagliatelle with oxtail. This delicious food paired with the perfect wine and a complementary yogurt with pumpkin jam made it a dinner to remember.
Victoria D — Google review
The moussaka, served in a piping hot clay pot, has a nice crust and a perfect ratio of aubergine, potato and mince. We ordered a lamb fricassee, but they gave us a lamb shank instead. It was cooked to perfection, so no complaints at all. The stuffed zucchini is subtly flavoured with a smooth sauce base. Wonderful views of the Corinthian Gulf, and excellent service from the staff.

We enjoyed walking across the street from our hotel after arriving to town late. We enjoyed the sea bass with greens, the Lamb slouvaki and the oxtail pasta. Lovely atmosphere and attentive service. We would love to come back!

Exceptional customer care - start to finish the gentleman were polite, attentive but not intrusive, engaged and everything just flowed. Of course stunning views, good variety menu and for the service and quality of food - the higher prices can be justified. Recommend the lamb chops - cooked to perfection! Would go again.

Recommended by our hosts at Pitho across the street and it was a great place to eat. We shared the Epikouros Salad, the Stuffed Tomato and Pepper and an order of bread. All were especially good but the local olive oil was a highlight. The olives were harvested in the groves that are viewed from the restaurant. Good service and unequalled view.

Outstanding place for lunch. I did not want to 'follow the crowd' on a group trip to Delphi and chose this restaurant. The grilled cheese and their special 'Epikouros Chicken' were great. The portion was huge to be honest. There were no terrace side seats when I went in. But the staff kindly offered to move me as soon as a seat opened up, a great gesture of customer service. Good views, though it was a rainy day.

Incredible! We were recommended Epikouros by our hotel in Delphi and it did not disappoint!! We were seated just before a large tour group arrived and we still received the most impeccable service. The cafe also offers light meals and coffee, as well as evening wine and cocktails. The owner has set up telescopes for guests use, which can be enjoyed during the day or at night. The cafe is very friendly and welcoming, making it a great place to relax after a busy day.
Very nice and cosy place! My girlfriend and I went here for some orange juice and coffee. The view is amazing, the staff is friendly and quick (and English speaking). To top it off, the music playing here is very nice (lo-fi, for those curious), gentle, fitting the atmosphere and not too loud. Only remark to be made is that the bill can turn put kinda high. We paid 16 euro for 2 orange juices and a cappuccino. Of course, you also pay a bit for the view, but keep this in mind when coming here. But overall, can recommend coming here!

We wanted to enjoy just a small treat with a view after visiting the museum and site in Delphi, and for that this place was perfect! Very polite service. Delicious Greek yogurt with cherries. Loved the cast iron pot my tea came in.

Wonderful place! So inviting and professionally managed. The best hot chocolate viennois! The real whipped cream had been much higher and more foamy when it was first served and before I spooned up most of it. It was so good that I went back the next evening. Others enjoyed their drinks, as well.

We arrived as the first guests in the restaurant/cafebar on a Friday noon for lunch after coming down from Delphi Archaeological site. Great view and service. The salad has a generous pine nuts topping which is delightful to have. Grilled cheese and bacon baguette are tasty too. Not sure why other guests ordered only drinks but not food.

The owner / server had a nice smile on his face and helped us with the menu. He spoke enough of English and we had no issue communicating with him. He even showed my daughter how to use the telescope. BTW, there is telescope there that you can use and see the sceneries. The back of the restaurant has an amazing view. Inside has a nice natural fireplace. Enjoyable to have a late-night tea right beside it. Desert was pretty good too. 100% recommended....

This is a great spot in Delphi. On the main drag, it has a great deck that overlooks the valley, and telescopes to look at everything. The husband makes the drinks, the wife is the server, and there kids are just chilling in the corner. By far the best Frappe I have had in Greece, they give a good solid pour for their glass of local Greek wine. They have desserts and gelato also. You can several hours there. A great vibe.
