Museums
Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum is located on the former site of Lowry Air Force Base in Denver. The museum, which opened in 1994, aims to preserve the history of the base's operations from 1938 to 1994.
Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum totally rocked my expectations! The temperature inside was perfect, and I loved that it wasn't too crowded, so I could really take my time exploring. They have an incredible collection of aircraft, including real planes that served the U.S. military. I even got to check out a recreational helicopter and some amazing 1:1 scale models from war movies! The NASA history section was super interesting, and there was just so much to learn about aviation history. It's a great place to spend a couple of hours in a peaceful, recreational setting. Definitely a must-see for anyone interested in flight and space!
Julio R — Google review
Absolutely the coolest air and space museum ever. Star Wars vehicles from Lucas Film, yes we’re nerds. My son (13) could see inspirations for Disney Planes (his favorite film growing up). My husband, huge aviation aficionado, knew all the things. I was amazed by the other stuff too - space, ballooning, info on Amelia Rose Earhart. And we visited on a free entry day. We loved it!
Courtney B — Google review
I was extremely fortunate to attend an industry trade show here. As a Long Island guy who grew up with Grumman making F-14s in my backyard, it was really a treat and privilege to have the access I had to this pristine and informative museum. A must do while in the area.

Wings Over the Rockies is guaranteed to bring out the little kid in adults and smiles to little kids. I went with interest but generally expecting standard aircraft museum stuff. I was pleased with the condensed but efficient layout and great presentation efforts that delivered history and trivia in an engaging manner. The museum is housed in a former Lowry Air Force Base hanger which helps bring history to life. The displays allow you to get close up to the aircraft. There are plenty of plaques with details on the planes along with nicely produced videos with interviews of pilots reminiscing about their experience with the various planes on display. This is all supplemented with knowledgeable docents that really know their stuff. I surprised myself when my friend and I decided to try the flight simulator that offers a wide range of aircraft to select for the experience. We had an absolute ball taking off and inspecting the front range of Colorado in an F4 fighter jet. It was actually capable of flying upside down but we decided to keep it upright. Wings Over the Rockies is definitely worth carving out some time to enjoy.
Edward B — Google review
I could spend hours here. I'd swear these planes look like they can still be flying. Beautiful hangar, so much to see, even included Star Wars displays! Went there over the Father's Day weekend, so it was free for me and my son-in-law. I only paid for my daughter and granddaughter. My first visit to the museum. Wish I had come here sooner. Love the Rocket ice cream shop next door! There was nice waiting to buy or enter, but it did get busier into the late morning and early afternoon. Parking seems plentiful. I hope to revisit next year.
Jay Z — Google review
Had a real blast. There are a lot of activities for the kids to learn and have fun, even a whole play room they can enjoy. One of my favorites was the flight simulator that was pretty much a roller coaster. Its a great experience and worth the trip.
Tom ( — Google review
I visited with my daughter and we had a great time! The museum has an awesome collection of aircraft and space exhibits that really kept her interested. The big B52 outside are impressive, and the indoor displays were fun and educational. It’s a perfect spot for kids who are curious about airplanes and space. Staff was friendly and everything was clean and organized.

Nature & Parks
Aurora Reservoir is a sprawling 800-acre water body offering various recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, and non-motorized boating. Visitors can enjoy paddle boarding or rent kayaks to explore the reservoir. The park also features an archery range and picnic shelters for gatherings. While it can get busy during peak times like July 4th weekend, the water is generally clean with designated swimming areas and lifeguards on duty.
This place was great. The park rangers were on top of keeping people safe, there was plenty of room and the atmosphere was nice. They also give veterans deals on the park pass and annual pass which I appreciate at a veteran. We are excited to come back to this place over and over again. One thing to note is NO SWIMMING till after Labor Day. Rangers make sure you DO NOT go past your knees in the water.
Michael G — Google review
Beutiful God made nature and friendly and professional officers patrolling the area so you feel safe as well. I had a celebration of life for my youngest sister and though the weather didn't exactly corporate the officers were kind and understood our sadness and took that into consideration
Nicole B — Google review
Good spot for paddle boarding. Shady areas near the parking lot. Swim beach has some shaded pavilion type seating areas. Aggressive geese.
Chris R — Google review
3 stars because it was a really lovely space, but the swimming area is so incredibly small. You can get in the water up until you waist but no room to swim, it's roped off. I understand the safety precaution for this, but it's really unfortunate.
Morgan D — Google review
A great place for family and friends gatherings. Swimming is allowed at a designated place. Be ready to pay $ 10 at the entrance though.
Abigail G — Google review
We had a wonderful day at Aurora Reservoir! The water was clean, the views were beautiful, and the whole place felt peaceful and relaxing. Great spot for families and friends — we’ll definitely be back!
Inna S — Google review
Hidden gem of Aurora! The water is so nice and not murky unlike Chatfield! A LOT of parking even if you decide to show up before noon. Has swim beach and boat ramp as well as concessions and rentals. Will definitely be coming out here more often even tho I'm 15 min away from Chatfield and bear creek! Where as this is 45 min from me but totally worth it!

A beautiful place to go with family or as a couple! Perfect for everything! Accessible areas and boats for rent. Also, lifeguards. Recommended!

With 35 miles of multi-use trails, it's perfect for jogging and biking, while the reservoir allows boating, fishing, and swimming in summer and ice skating in winter.
What a beautiful state park! The campsites were large with pavement & concrete. Not to mention, each site was so spread apart we felt like we had an actual yard! Great bike paths too. We were so impressed every day with the amount of upkeep the workers were doing in sites as soon as people left. We will definitely stay here again! Great job to the staff here!

I went yesterday, July 29, 2025, with my husband. The place is beautiful for hiking and camping, although some young people don't believe in cleanliness and throw trash everywhere, even though the reserve provides them with all the necessary places and trash containers. Nevertheless, the romantic reserve is beautiful, sunny days are available, and water is always available near all the seating areas, and the bathrooms are clean.
Safa A — Google review
I love this lake to fish It's so clean and so many trees and vegetation and animals I've seen dear many times. I also saw big toad. This is my go-to place when I want to relax take my dog out.
Kathy J — Google review
We really loved our stay here! It's hard to wrap your brain around the fact that you are in the middle of a city. Massive amount of beautiful, well cared for nature. Very easy to get in and out with our 40' RV, LOTS of trails and space to walk the dogs (would have been perfect for bike riding), enjoyed fires at night and even saw the northern lights! Great laundry area (easy to use app so no worries about finding quarters). Pay showers but I didn't use. There was a large coyote presence so I would be cautious leaving any small dogs unattended but they pretty much kept their distance. We loved hearing them at night. Would love to stay again!
Lisa S — Google review
Such a lovely state park. Wonderful trail to walk, it is paved for road biking. There are many bathrooms along the trail too. Also I love the swimmable area in the reservoir. Super refreshing for after a workout! Leave no trace :)

This is a great place to visit for long walks, biking and running/jogging. There is also a campground area, beach, marina! It was beautiful and peaceful when we visited, I can imagine the crowds during summertime. We enjoyed our visit.

Great views for a morning run! The attendant at the East entrance was very helpful. Gave me a map and gave perfect instructions on how to get to Dixon for the trail. I ended my run by the lake. So peaceful. I’m going back tomorrow for my 8 mile run down Cherry Creek Dam.

Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms is a 700-acre wildlife refuge and historic farm in Littleton, situated along Deer Creek. The facility features various gardens such as the Community-Supported Agriculture program gardens, sensory garden, iris garden, herb garden, and Janice Ford memorial garden. Additionally, there are riparian demonstration garden, survival garden, and native plant garden within the Deer Creek Natural Area.
I went here with my roommates for the Lavender festival and was so surprised to go and experience so many other amazing things. There were food vendors, live music, people educating about the dye garden, a butterfly house, a market, and of course the Lavender. The property was so incredibly beautiful to walk around. The flowers were in full bloom, and there was just so much to experience. For onky a $17 ticket it was more than worth it. All the staff were incredibly nice.
Tara H — Google review
We visited during the lavender festival and had a great time overall. There was plenty of parking, and the area itself is lovely for strolling around. The vendor booths were set up in the middle of a field, which made for a nice atmosphere, but it did get quite warm. It would be helpful if water stations were spread throughout the event to keep people hydrated. Other than that, it was a great experience!

What a beautiful venue, wow!! I had the pleasure of being a Wedding Coordinator at the Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms. Got to work with Abby & Sana - they were so on top of it, great communication and were so incredibly helpful before, during and after the wedding day. This venue makes the planning process so smooth and they execute the day of plans flawlessly. 10/10 I would highly recommend hosting your wedding day here for ceremony and reception!!! Also, it's just a fantastic gardens to spend the day with family or friends - will definitely be back to explore more 😊 Thank you, Jessica @ Dream Big Events

We used Chatfield Farms as a wedding venue and it was so perfect! The gardens, in full bloom at the end of August, were the most gorgeous, natural backdrop for photos and just an incredible venue. We kept our decor simple, so as to not distract from all of the natural beauty. The stables (white open barn) was the perfect amount of rustic that we wanted. There isn't one thing we would change for our venue selection! The price we paid for the venue and amount of time for the venue rental aligned with pricing of other venues we looked at and this expense for the wedding went to a great cause as well, contributing to the ongoing conservation programs and projects at the native plant refuge and historic farm. Our venue manager was Abby Beck and I can't say enough good things about her! She was so accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable and just overall easy to work with! One of the services offered through the gardens was the Bucket of Blooms. They will grow flowers for your wedding to be used however you want, matching your wedding (or party/event) colors and if you choose, they can build your bouquets from these flowers that are grown at the gardens. Our bouquets turned out absolutely stunning. They were HUGE! So well designed and used flowers I had never even seen before! We loved them and this is something everyone should use if you are using the gardens as a venue!! Our entire experience at the gardens was incredible and the perfect place for a wedding!
Katie D — Google review
Compared the the Downtown botanical gardens I found it to have less variety of plants, flowers and foliage. Nonetheless it was a beautiful place to visit with a beautiful Colorado backdrop and worth the visit. It has a small butterfly pavilion was very enjoyable and the walk through the gardens very relaxing. Came late August and still has lots of color, humming birds and great place to admire nature's beauty and relax and ofcourse take pictures.
Gus J — Google review
Our family went in the middle of June on a gorgeous day to be outside in Colorado. The gardens were fully in Bloom with tons of flowers and bushes and trees and the place was filled with people looking at all of the flowers and children running around. Looking at the ducks. In the Monet exhibit there was a family of ducklings waddling around and the children were all watching and chasing them into the pond. The paths were well maintained and easy to travel. They showcased many different species of flowers and bushes, grasses and trees throughout the gardens. Benches replaced all over so you could sit and look at all of the different plants throughout the place. The gardens are not too big. You can travel it within a day, a half a day or so and feel like you got the full experience. It was a very fun and enjoyable time.
Anna N — Google review
As a wedding coordinator, I absolutely loved getting to work a wedding at this beautiful botanic garden. Although we each got almost 30,000 steps in throughout the course of our couple's wedding day, it was well worth all the effort to see how happy our couple and their guests were celebrating throughout this absolutely stunning property. They made full use of the entire property; around every bend you'll find a unique backdrop for photos with different kinds of plants and wildlife. The venue coordinator Jeremiah went way out of his way to accommodate my couple's unique requests, answered all of our endless questions in a timely manner, and was the most helpful venue coordinator I've ever worked with on the day of the event. He was there when we arrived and stayed after we left to ensure that every need was met, even going so far as to help me load up my car at the end of the night. Between Jeremiah's genuine care and kindness and the immaculate beauty of the property, I can't recommend this venue enough to future couples looking to get married in a well-maintained natural setting.
Marea J — Google review
The gardens were well maintained, including rows of veggies with staff everywhere. They were more than happy to talk with you and share their love for this scenic sanctuary. I appreciated the paths that meandered throughout the shade areas of the gardens in 90-degree weather conditions. I found it to be very relaxing, quiet, and beautiful. The butterfly house was an unexpected treat to enhance the whole experience. If you love flowers, the outdoors, and butterflies, you won't be disappointed!

Nestled in the picturesque Rocky Mountain foothills of Littleton, Colorado, Chatfield State Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The park offers an array of activities such as hiking, biking, camping, and boating against the stunning backdrop of the Platte River Valley. Boaters can take advantage of the marina and boat rentals while anglers can try their luck at catching trout, bass, crappie, and catfish.
I love going to this State Park. It seems to be a place that many other come to and enjoy. There is a nice beach to hang out at and take a swim, there seems to be a nice camp site, that I hope to experience in the near future. There seems to be areas to rent canoes and paddle boats. There also seems to be a lot of boats that Cruze around the lake as well. I have had a lot of fun each time that I've visited Chatfield State Park.

Amazing park with many lakes that can be used for paddleboarding, fishing, or swimming. The large main resivoir you can also use powered boats. The resivoir has flooded recently leading to a number of cottonwoods sticking out of the water. They have sense died, giving way to very unique scenery. There is much wildlife to enjoy in the park, and camping is available in multiple lot types.

omg i love this place, everyone here is just so awesome and friendly. from campers, to park host, and as well as the rangers. everyone just waves and smiles at you and just sparks up a conversation. our car broke down and a park host saw our hood up and stopped to see if we were okay and if we needed anything, and he was nice enough to do run arounds for us in getting info on what we can do. then we met a park ranger name sweeney and he was very very patient understanding and accommodating always checked up on us if we were okay and was not an a hole like most rangers. then we met another worker from hawaii he was great n offered to help look at our car amd offered services . scene here is BEAUTIFUL!!! I just love the hospitality here

Very good park for boating, fishing, water sports, kayaking, paddleboarding, camping, hiking and walking. Can get very crowded in the summer season. Nice trails, decent camping selection if you book early, lotsa parking. Has a boat ramp and marina. Nice smaller lakes in the park area as well.

June 6-8 2025 Really beautiful, green and lush right now. We stayed in handicap spot 148 in loop C. Nice cement pad and electrical available. No water on this site. Only bummer was the closest restroom to handicap spot was closed so a bit of a walk to next available restroom which can be difficult for someone with limited mobility. The sites are spacious and well maintained. Bathrooms are clean and they have showers that work but need more space for a bench or more hooks to keep dry clothes. The swim beach is nice and very busy. Go early to get parking and a space for your stuff. The view is gorgeous. They have a ramp that goes right into the water and allows for wheelchair access or access for people with limited mobility (like me) to get into the water and enjoy the fun instead of sitting on the sidelines! Best feature ever! There was a group of partiers near our site, which is fine, but they kept it up very loudly til after 3 am which made it hard to sleep. I think they need to enforce quiet hours better. All in all this is a nice campground and I would visit again.
Carol J — Google review
A beautiful place to have a picnic or walk around the lake. I went with my family — mountains on one side and the lake on the other. There’s plenty of parking, and you only pay per car. You can bike or walk around and enjoy the scenery.

Beautiful place to relax, fish, hike. Close to Denver. Water level was a little low.

We have been camping in Chatfield State Park for 40 years. We tented for 10 years and then in a motorhome and two trailers. Tenters should try c loop because it has water and electricity and the other loops are full hookups and cost more. I camped in the group camp grounds every spring and fall with 30 of my buddies. Make your reservations 6 months in advance for the spot you want. The park could use 150 more spots.

Outlet mall
Busy, modern outlet mall featuring a variety of popular stores, along with a food court.
Always a good time. We aren’t shoppers so we go when we need something. Hubby lives in Under Armour shirts so we have to restock once in awhile. We found a Colorado Store this time and popped in and got our grandson a tiny little hoodie two days before leaving on our trip to France to spend my birthday with our daughter and her family! Perfect! ❤️

One of the largest around here. Good brands and discounts. The parking lot has a beautiful view to the mountains around. Worth the visit.

My mom & I participated in Mom's & Mimosa's. It was a well executed event that was fun, helped a good cause, had activities & giveaways to celebrate mothers. The music, atmosphere, snacks, mimosas & giveaways were amazing!!! Thank you to all the participants, businesses who ran sales to provide a better value & gave out flowers for the bouquets. Everyone came together to create a beautiful day. Will definitely do this in the future with my Mom.

Shopping. Shopping and shopping. There are plenty of places to shop. Stores have many discounts. Great outdoor walking. There are plenty of shops. But I do think they lack in places to eat at least within the mall outlet. It would be nice to have more of a variety of foods.
Robert H — Google review
It has a great variety of stores; I only wish they had a few more affordabe places to shop and not just the high end brand names stores. It is always fun to just walk around because the atmosphere is great. Recently with the holidays coming it is decorated very festive and had music playing to it made for a great experience. I will continue to come here if for nothing else but to walk around and look for sales and people watch. I reccommend this area to shop.
Bonnie — Google review
We come here all the way from SD to do back to school shopping with our family. We do it every year for the past 8 years. The discounts and variety are great! We go to UA, Adidas, H&M, Nike, Vans, etc. Bathrooms and staff are super awesome!
Chad R — Google review
It's a shopping center. What do you expect? Take any major outlet mall and place it in Colorado..... That's this place. They had good sales and deals going on when we were there, not very busy at all (on a Monday afternoon). Hard to keep a toddler entertained, but not a big deal. Overall, not a bad place, but just a shopping center.

Roxborough State Park is a stunning geological wonder that offers visitors an unforgettable experience amidst its striking red-rock formations. Nestled just a short drive from Littleton, this park features well-maintained hiking trails, including the popular Fountain Valley trail, which provides breathtaking views but can be quite hot during midday hikes. The visitor center serves as a great starting point with spacious picnic areas and restrooms for convenience.
Absolutely breathtaking atmosphere. There's several hiking trails that go through the park, I did a few of them & none of them were too difficult. There's a really nice shaded Pavillion where you can sit & enjoy the view/have lunch. It wasn't too crowded when I came either. Keep your eyes open for wildlife, I saw several turkeys & their babies, deer & hummingbirds are active this summer. Tons of pretty wildflowers too. Make sure you bring lots of water & sunscreen, there's not too much shade on the trails.

Our first visit to this state park. Visiting from out of state. Decided that we love to hike and wanted to see what this state has. It's a beautiful park. Has many trails and places to walk. You definitely want to be prepared. Water is essential. Didn't see much wildlife but I know when we were hiking it was a bit warm. Visitor Center was nice. The team of workers are very thoughtful and friendly. Last note. If you are walking to the visitor center. Look at the path on the left. It's a small road. But easier to walk if you have mobility issues.
Robert H — Google review
Gorgeous Park! The visitors center is worth the slight uphill climb. I did the shortest trail and the views were beautiful. Can't wait to visit again and do a more challenging trail!

Loved this park! We went on a Sunday afternoon in October and we had to wait about 10 mins until a few cars left (the max is 100 cars at a time). It was a beautiful park and we talked to the nicest lady at the visitor center. We hiked a 3 mile loop from there and had some beautiful views! This is a hidden gem and you should check it out if you’re in the area!

BEAUTIFUL! What a day hiking around this park in late spring. Wildflowers, lots of trails and what a view! We arrived early on a gorgeous Saturday morning and spent the day wandering around. My personal highlight of the day was the bull snake hauling tail across a path. This snake had places to go and vermin to eat. This is a no dog park. Lucky for you if you didn't check the website for alerts, regulations and need to knows. There is a for a fee dog kennel right outside an entrance for you to drop fido off while you hike around. I have no idea how quickly it fills up. The ranger station is a beautiful building with excellent interpretive displays. The display on how many years your litter takes to break down is eye opening and yes, this includes pistachio shells. Small gift shop in the station with the essential stickers, t-shirts and postcards. #COParksPassport

Roxborough State Park is absolutely amazing. The trails are super clean and well maintained, and I found them really easy to walk, perfect for a peaceful day out in nature. It wasn’t too busy when I went, which made the experience even better. The scenery is stunning, those red rock formations are just beautiful. Whether you’re hiking or just looking to relax in a quiet, natural setting, this place is a hidden gem.

An absolutely beautiful park, don't be fooled by the entrance area which is flat. A relatively easy walk, and easy to make as long or short as you like. Loved this park for its rock formations.....and beautiful sky and cloud features when we were there. Easy to get to as well.

Hey, have you heard about this hidden gem of a park in Colorado? It’s not one of the many parks in the Mountains, but it’s right near the plains, and you’d never guess it! This park has tons of trails and levels for all skill levels, so you can find something that suits your fitness level. There are two entrances, one in the north and one in the south. If you’re planning to hike, most of the trails are on the north side. The visitor center is located at 83 at the south entrance. There’s a big picnic area on the south end and some picnic tables on the north. Oh, and there’s also a trail that goes all the way from end to end!

This is a great place to hike that is close to home. Traffic is light and the park is close to the south end of town. There are clean bathrooms by the parking lot and quite of few great hiking paths ranging from easy to moderate and not too long. A good distance for old and young without being too long. My kids and grandson have hiked around quite a few times over the years. Very beautiful scenic views at every pathway. There are picnic tables all over with a big gazebo area up by the main parking lot as well. If your looking for a great scenic place to hike for the whole family that is close to home, this is the place.

This is such a fun place to come for hikes, they have different levels of difficulty which is really helpful for those with mobility issues. The trails are well managed and refreshing and the views of the geological formations, the bridge, and the landscape are gorgeous! If you like trying to spot wildlife this is a good place to come :)

This place is a hidden gem. Beautiful scenery and beautifully designed trails. It is Colorado so before starting on a hike check the overview on AllTrails because some of these are definitely more intermediate and can be on the longer side and I would not recommend attempting the longer trails in the dead of summer heat.

Great Little adventure, the main trail can done with kids and is very family friendly. There are some moderate trails that go down to the canyon that just need adequate footware. Overall clean, quiet and nicely isolated park.

This was a fun place to check out. I took the eastern canyon trail which is a dog free trail. You get to hike up and down through the canyon with beautiful views and lots of wild life. There were points when I had to find the trail markers as the trail isnt as defined over the rocky parts.

We did the Lake Gulch trail. It's a nice loop with a mixture of sun and shade, and several areas with access to the creek. We went with two kids and a dog, not too challenging, but isn't super flat either

Absolutely breathe taking views! Trails for all experience levels. Rim rock trail takes about 3 hours from the main entrance parking lot. It is a HUGE LOOP. worth every step!

Wellington Lake

Campground

Nature & Wildlife Areas
This is my favorite campground that I’ve ever been to spacious, beautiful scenery very knowledgeable staff. We got Lakeside spots and had been told to reserve them right as reservations opened in January. We did then I had to change my reservation and they were awesome. There was a change fee, but it was minimal and I got another Lakeside spot. That was incredible. you will not get lakeside spots late in the year for the summer, but they were campgrounds sites open everywhere and it’s easy walking distance to the lake obviously mentioned they have no electric hook up no showers and their toilets are very basic but the campgrounds are kept crystal clean the lake is clean. Awesome awesome campground.

Easy to book a reservation, friendly staff. Definitely like when they did their rounds around the lake and camping areas. The bathroom was clean and didn't smell. The camping grounds were also clean, overall my family and I Were happy we had our experience there. Definitely well come back again.

An awesome place overall. If you can get there, you'll feel like you've come to paradise. 2-wheel drive is sufficient to get there, though cars need decent clearance. There is firewood and some basic supplies at the office (including fly traps, which are recommended.) Reservations required to camp. Campsite 1 is isolated but it can be windy. Pick the others if you want shelter from the wind. Check descriptions on the Web site; many sites can accommodate campers. The ducks and Canadian Geese kept my daughter entertained. (I'm sure the visiting dogs appreciated them, also!) We'll definitely come back.

My daughter and I got home yesterday after our second camping trip to Wellington Lake. I am calling this one of the most beautiful Camping areas I have ever visited and I am from the Eastern Sierra in California. Amazing scenery, cool evenings and a spectacular high Alpine lake all add up to a fantastic vacation venue. The staff was not only helpful but on the way home Helped me fine-tune my finicky bike rack so I could make it. Back to the highway highly recommend five stars plus
Gordy J — Google review
The lake itself was beautiful, and perfect to spend the day paddle boarding. However, when we first arrived to check in, the Man helping us upfront was extremely rude. He seemed irritated to be helping so many people at once, even though everyone (paying customers at that) was required to check in at 2. The very much profitable privatization of the lake had its own complications. I would not recommend camping here with a large party. While celebrating a birthday party, Park Rangers came over to our campsite 20 minutes before quiet hours and said there was a noise complaint. They also told us that they had video recording of us using a hatchet. For one, we did not have a hatchet at our campsite (we had been using a mallet to chop wood). Secondly, to be recorded or under strict surveillance is the last thing someone wants to do, while trying to escape in Nature for the weekend. Overall, I had a great time spent at the lake, but would only come back in a much smaller group of 2 or 3. And be prepared for an extremely unpleasant check in experience.
Mersadies K — Google review
Yes they Lake is private and yes you have to pay to play there. Big deal! Thank God it is open to the public! This place is special and I am so happy it's protected and and taken care of. The rangers are there to protect the Lake....period. Yes they might get a little rude.. try dealing with the public and not getting cranky! I love this place!

We love coming to Wellington lake campground! It’s our first and favorite campground! The campground is always clean, and the staff is so friendly and helpful! It’s so much fun to kayak on the lake and hike the trails with our kids and grandkids! On our last visit we only had a one night reservation and we wanted to add another night to our stay. Addie, Kim, and Frank bent over backwards to find us a site. Addie and Kim prepared the new site as soon as it was available and even left us a note on our camper while we hiked that it was ready for us to move in! Thank you so much Addie and Kim! We can’t wait to come back!

Rocky summit with a fire-spotting tower overlooking Pike National Forest & surrounding peaks.
One of the most beautiful and rewarding hikes I've done in Colorado! The parking is limited, but there is overflow parking a few miles down. The hike was beautiful and there were so many people with dogs! At the end, you get to the red stairs and it's scary but so worth it! I would do this over and over again! It took less than 2 hours and we also went to the Finn Overlook!
Giulia Z — Google review
One of the best trails I've hiked in my 7 years living in CO. I'd rate this an easy-medium difficulty. I had not hiked in quite a while so the elevation gain on the way up was a tad struggling but not terrible. The views are IMMACULATE and the stairs to the very top where the fire lookout is at was breathtaking (literally from the stairs and also for the views). There were elderly people and even toddlers I met at the top of this place so anyone can truly do this trail comfortably. Bring plenty of water and plenty of storage space on your phone/camera because you'll take a lot of great photos.
J D — Google review
My husband and I are experienced hikers. This hike is moderately easy. That said, appropriate footwear and adequate water are always recommended no matter how easy the hike is. The best part of this hike is the views at the top. There are 150 stairs leading up to the lookout. It may be a family- friendly hike but I would be hesitant to take children less than 8 years old. Going up and down the stairs could be challenging. Plenty of benches to rest and tables. Although they are not together in a useable picnic way. We went during the week hoping for better parking availability and we did get a spot.
Catherine K — Google review
Awesome place with 360 degree views! The hike was moderate, with a lot of natural plants and wildlife around. It took us about 2 hours to get up and there were views throughout the hike. I didn't know that there was so much history to this lookout. At the top you'll see the cabin and outhouse were the fire lookout would stay, including information on the history of the place, and ofcourse the actual fire lookout. To see the fire lookout you have to climb up this very tall staircase that takes you there but the workout is worth it once you get to the top because there we saw the lookout, amazing views and the most ladybugs that I've ever seen.
Isaac C — Google review
The hike is all up hill which makes it a work out, all down hill back though. It's roughly a mile and half possibly more. The veiws at the top are completely worth it. Lots and lots of wildlife too. We found a working payphone as well. Don't feed the trees candy though. Just trust me.

Tried visiting Devil’s Head Lookout on a weekend, but I never made it to the actual lookout or even the parking lot. And honestly, that itself says a lot. To get to the trailhead, you need to drive nearly 10 miles on an unpaved forest road. I’ve driven on unpaved roads before, but this was on a whole different level. The unpaved road isn't just "rough"—it’s a masterpiece of 1-inch washboard grooves, shaking my AWD like a blender on high. The dust cloud was unbearable, and the vibration was so bad I couldn’t even tell what speed would make it better. This route made me feel like I needed a heavy-duty 4x4 with off-road tires just to survive. I managed about 5 miles before realizing I’d rather keep my tires attached to my car , that continuing further might literally shake my tires off. So I turned back—no lookout, no parking lot, no majestic views. A complete letdown. If you don’t have a solid off-road vehicle, skip this one.

If you’re looking for tall trees, fall foliage, scenic views, and a little less rocky than most CO trails, then this is it! So many woodpeckers too. Get here before 9am on weekends or you may be stuck without parking. Photos from 9/27/2025
Madison G — Google review
Such an amazing view at the top! I really enjoyed the dirt road leading to the trailhead. Tons of parking and a picnic area in the same lot. Don't use apple maps to find it bc you won't 😂 use Google. Awesome 360 views at the tower and the stairs are super sturdy otw up. Definitely recommend! Only like 3 miles or something in total so doesn't take very long to do. There are other trails and views to see if you have the time.

Nestled in the small community of Black Forest, Fox Run Regional Park is a sprawling wooded park covering about 1,000 square miles. It offers stunning views of Pikes Peak and features numerous hiking and biking trails, as well as opportunities for horseback riding. The park is dotted with picturesque ponds and picnic pavilions, providing an ideal setting for a peaceful outdoor experience. Visitors can explore scenic trails that wind through thick forests of ponderosa pines, offering tranquility year-round.
Fox Run is my go to trail for when I want to hike… Fox Run regional park goes beyond just walking, there’s 2 playgrounds, gazebos and benches for if you want to have an outdoor lunch, and even a dog park. My main reason for going to the park is for the hiking trails, the trails are remote, and the trees make me feel isolated and alone. The scenery is beautiful, the terrain is pretty hilly, and it’s very green back there. Overall, I really like Fox Run Regional park, and I’ll be coming back consistently.

It’s an amazing park that is well maintained. From the moment you enter the park and start wandering around until you are ready to leave you’ll notice how well taken care of this park is. The landscape is beautiful, bathrooms are clean and you won’t find any trash. The gazebo and the fountain alone are worth the trip
Ted C — Google review
Such a beautiful and well maintained park! We visited with our 2, 6 and 11 year old and they enjoyed the playground and we had lunch on the grassy area. The only downside was the restrooms were closed so they had portable potties instead, however they were clean and well maintained. There were families playing sports on the large grassy areas, birthday parties and families having a picnic like us. We were visiting from out of town and were seeking a more rural and clean park away from the traffic, so if that's what your looking for, make the drive out to this park you will not be disappointed!

This park is gorgeous! It has multiple play structures for kids of all ages, a rock climbing wall, many interesting features for the kids to play with in the parks and a beautiful pond with a fountain and gazebo in the middle. Absolutely lovely and perfect for kids and dogs. Very clean and well maintained, as well.

Beautiful park, areas for picnics, peaceful stream. Playground area, dog park, couple of small ponds one of them with koi fish. Super cool, only wish dogs could swim in 1 of the ponds. There is no where in cos where dogs can swim

Great trails deep in the park. Such a wonderful display of how odd the Palmer Divide is with the mass of new growth Yellow (Ponderosa) Pines filling the rolling hills, perfectly between the Platte and Arkansas Rivers. The scent of this cookie tree fills the sunny and flat paths of the park to the enjoyment of all happy hikers. The awkward adolescents loop, knot, split, and merge together making great unique views of the forest filler. At one point as I began I hike I was wondering if I should have brought earbuds to keep my short attention span while on my stroll, but then foolishly remembered the many residents of the pines make perfect ambiance. The nuthatches, flickers, and woodpeckers were not just pleasant on the ears, but plentiful to the eyes. I went in hoping to spy maybe one or two Black Abert Squirrels along my hike and was incredibly shocked to have counted at least five, two of which immediately on my trail playing about the knickinick (which I had no idea was so prevelant at this elevation). Among the residents I have spotted within the area are also numerous foxes, the occasional porcupine, and the false hawk call of the Rocky Mountain (Stellar's) Jay. Other sights were colorful wildflowers and fungi, including the captivating parasite of pine drop. Aside from the demolished zones dedicated to playgrounds and sports, I only have one issue with this park, the locals. For some reason out of every park I have visited, the local hikers from the surrounding Kings deer, Sanctuary, and Flying Horse communities are quite rude. Ignoring greetings, refusing to chat or acknowledge presence, and rushing past other hikers, nowhere else in the area have I experienced such strange behavior. I am interested in the future nature center, and am sure that the many school programs that visit the building will be greatly educated and enthralled with the local flora and fauna, I just hope that it doesn't scare off all the critters and creatures that populate the pines.

When I was in high school, I lived in the neighborhood right near Fox Run Park and I came and hiked here all the time with my dog, along with hiking the old Black Forest Baptist Camp and Conference Center that was demolished and is now the Sanctuary Pointe neighborhood. Fox Run Park is one of my favorite places to hike because it’s full of nostalgia for me. It’s usually about 10 degrees cooler than the rest of Colorado Springs because of the higher elevation and it’s full of wildlife, a pond, and updated playgrounds. There’s even a dog park.
Eleanor S — Google review
Smaller dog park, decent. Also separate small dog area. Bathrooms which is nice. The trails are ok, lots of uphill trails but don't go that far for seasoned walkers. I did 4 mi so ok but its very twisted trails mostly. 3 of 5 IMO. I really need to drive more of the roads to see if there is more available.

The United States Air Force Academy, established in 1954, is a renowned institution that provides training to U.S. Air Force cadets and showcases various exhibits. Visitors can explore the grounds and drive through the campus to witness its architectural marvels, including the striking interdenominational chapel. Additionally, the academy offers an unparalleled view of Pikes Peak and features amenities such as VIP luxury fire pit suites and top-notch restaurants.
Visited the United States Air Force Academy in early August and was simply awestruck by the history, mission, character and quality of people who first organized the institution, all the graduates over time, and the proud character of the individuals attending the academy. Beautiful campus nestled in the north part of Colorado Springs, with plenty of space and neat, air-themed buildings. The chapel was under renovation/construction when we visited so we could not view it, but there are plenty of images and models around to get an idea of how beautiful and majestic the building is. We don't have any family members in the military, but we greatly appreciated the valuable opportunity to learn about this wonderful institution and the amazing work of the people associated with it. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

This is a very historic place. There are plenty of sites to see for a military retiree like myself. They have a full commissary and base exchange with many other shops and services. In passing some of the military members and cadets, they were all very, very polite. This is a very land expansive place as it's located in the prairies of Colorado, which makes it very beautiful.

We visited the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in hopes that our daughter will be attending next year. It is a highly respected institution that is known for producing some of the most dedicated and skilled military officers in the United States Air Force. With a focus on integrity, excellence, and service, the Academy prepares its students to meet the challenges of military service with honor and distinction. Beyond its academic and ethical rigor, the Air Force Academy also offers a vibrant and diverse community for its students. Cadets come from all walks of life, and the Academy prides itself on fostering a sense of camaraderie and belonging. It would be a blessing to be a part of this prestigious academy.

We arrived at the Air Force Academy a couple of weeks ago. They closed down tours to the public in January of 2025. We were not allowed to go in, this is not posted anywhere on their website. Be aware that if you're not a veteran or active military you won't be allowed to take a tour. This would have been very helpful as we planned our trip, we were disappointed.

What an impressive place! Not just the beauty and the organization of it, but the respect for the academy and the respect for the service is present. The size of the grounds is immense, and we only stayed on the roads, not having time to go on any of the walking paths. Even though the chapel is currently closed, we still learned a lot through the visitor's center, and the video they showed was informative as well. Would have loved to have had more time here.

The Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center, established in 2004, is a family-friendly museum that attracts over 100,000 visitors annually. Located in Woodland Park, it showcases an impressive collection of dinosaur skeletons and fossils, including a triceratops prorus skull and remnants of prehistoric fish, marine reptiles, mammals, and pterosaurs. The museum offers interactive displays, tours, and a working fossil lab for an educational experience.
In order to maximize your experience you MUST ask for a tour guide! If not you’ll breeze through quickly. We learned tons of new facts about dinosaurs. Tour guides are knowledgeable and friendly. Ask for Caroline. She was AMAZING! Prices are family friendly. The gift shop has a variety of options. Incredible place! It’s a must!

ASK FOR A TOUR GUIDE!!! We're from Houston and members of the Houston Museum of Natural Science but I've never experienced dinosaur fossils like my daughter and I experienced here! Tip: ASK FOR A GUIDED TOUR Aspen was our guide and she did an AMAZING job guiding us through the exhibits and filling our minds with knowledge. The tour was around 2 hrs long and well worth it! I learned more about dinosaurs in 2 hrs than I think I did in the past 40 years especially considering that my original knowledge is so outdated. My 11 year old daughter loved the tour! Definitely go but definitely ask for a tour guide!

We took the grandkids to visit and were disappointed. The grandkids had fun, which is truly the important thing here. In my opinion, its a giant gift shop with a bonus museum attached that charges entry. Eh...again, the kids loved it, and its educational.

It was fine Overpriced for sure ! The kids did enjoy but they mostly wanted the large gift shop vs enjoying fossils/ dinos. I wish the place was larger.. I don't regret going but maybe without kids to enjoy more. It's a quick go around for sure. The statues out front would satisfy a dino lover and is a lot cheaper 😉

Garden of the Gods is a 1,300-acre park located just northeast of Colorado Springs. The park features an array of sandstone formations in various colors, offering picturesque landscapes for visitors. At the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center, guests can access hiking trails, biking paths, and even guided nature walks. The park's diverse trails cater to different difficulty levels, with a wheelchair-accessible 1.5-mile trail available for all to enjoy.
This is an awesome place to visit, and it's free! Nicely paved trail and it's accessible. Rock climbing can be arranged from what I saw on signs but you have to make contact with the location first. This is a great place for pictures of the Red rocks. Definitely worth the stop and visiting multiple times. This was my second trip and I enjoyed the rocks just as much.
Jenn J — Google review
Title: Geological Grandeur: A Study in Color and Contrast The Garden of the Gods offers an experience that is far more dramatic and detailed than a simple scenic drive. These photos illustrate the striking, almost painterly, quality of this National Natural Landmark, emphasizing the interplay between the ancient geology and the vibrant plant life. The dominant feature is, of course, the geological drama. The formations appear massive and imposing, showcasing stark red and orange colors under the brilliant Colorado sun. The images capture the incredible texture of the sandstone—the result of millions of years of deposition and subsequent tectonic tilting. Seeing these massive slabs of rock jutting sharply towards the sky, often framed by soft, puffy clouds, is a potent reminder of the earth's immense power. Furthermore, this place is an immersive trail experience. The dense, lively green foliage—primarily scrub oak and juniper—is a recurring element that beautifully frames the towering red monoliths. This foreground of nature provides a compelling contrast to the bare, dramatic rock, making the hiking and viewing experience feel intimate and immersive, even when viewing the massive formations. It suggests a park that is not just about viewing from a distance, but one that encourages stepping onto the trails to appreciate the varied ecosystems thriving right up to the base of the rock fins. The clear, blue skies and bright daylight guarantee exceptional photography, bringing out the maximum saturation in the red iron oxide of the rocks. Whether you are focused on the broad landscape views or the close-up texture of a specific formation, the Garden of the Gods is a mandatory stop for anyone visiting the Colorado Springs area, promising accessibility and a truly unforgettable visual spectacle.
Yusuf J — Google review
Garden of the Gods is an absolutely breathtaking place that feels almost unreal from the moment you arrive. The towering red rock formations create a stunning contrast against the bright blue sky, making every view feel picture-perfect. The maps along the trails are incredibly helpful, giving you a clear sense of direction while highlighting scenic overlooks and points of interest you won’t want to miss. The shuttle system is also very convenient, making it easy to get around the park without worrying about parking or long walks between major areas. I highly recommend bringing a water bottle, because staying hydrated makes the entire experience much more enjoyable, especially if you plan to explore several trails. Wearing comfortable hiking shoes is equally important, as some paths can be uneven, slightly uphill, or longer than expected. With the right gear, the walks feel relaxing rather than tiring. Despite being a popular destination, the park still manages to feel calm, refreshing, and peaceful. Whether you’re there for photography, hiking, or simply taking in the incredible scenery, it’s a place that leaves a lasting impression. Garden of the Gods is truly a must-see spot that showcases the natural beauty Colorado is known for.

A great experience with lots of beautiful scenery. We explored several landmarks along the trail and got to do a little rock climbing. Great for hiking and just walking around. Elevation is pretty high, being lots of water. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and taking your time. Would be a great place to jog if youre into building stamina.
Amun Z — Google review
This place is amazing. You just keep saying "wow" at every turn. There's a central part that's easy to walk and has sidewalks, and if you go early and are quiet - you can spot deer and other wildlife. You may even see permitted climbers working their way up a rock face. There is a lot to see in the center loop; howeverrrrr, if you got your grippy shoes, water, and some snacks... then adventure off into any of the outer trails. They are all a "little to a lot" different from each other (terrain, elevation gain and difficulty, vegetation, etc) buttttttttttttt on any trail you take you will be meandering along when out of nowhere ROCK FORMATION!👁👄👁 The colors of the rocks are mostly red (those are sandstone that used to be dunes) and remind me of Red Rock Canyon in Nevada, but there are also beautiful quartz that look glittery in the sun, obsidian (I think) that looks like black glass, and stones/ rocks that look like someone painted them layer by layer. Sooo many different types of trees and plants. Watch out for the cacti; they're everywhere to the sides of the trails and are no joke (even though they look small). Overall, pretty easy hike on any trail - but you need good shoes or it will get slippery in some spots. Kids could do some of the trails, maybe all - just depends on your kid's endurance and balance. Just the last mile or so can be tough and that was because it was an incline with deep sand... but you can probably exit off of the trail to the main road before that and go a different way. Highly recommend.

Garden of the Gods is absolutely breathtaking! The towering red rock formations against the blue Colorado sky are stunning from every angle. The park is clean, well-maintained, and free to visit — a true gem! Whether you’re hiking, taking photos, or just driving through, every moment feels magical. The visitor center staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the views from the overlooks are unforgettable. Definitely a must-see destination in Colorado Springs!

Absolutely gorgeous. It is a free park with well paved trails that offer guided tours for free. You can also walk around at your own leisure. Pictures Absolutely do it no justice. We'll worth the time spent there

Amazing place , family friendly. Enjoyed the well paved trails ; went during morning hours and just before sunset ! Pictures truly do not do justice at all! Free parking and free entrance . Were lucky to come across a group mountain goats during the day time and evening too! Red rock climbing signs are around and need permission with proper gear. Visitor info area with gift shop , cafe and restrooms available A must visit!

The National Museum of World War II Aviation, located near the Colorado Springs Airport, is a remarkable institution dedicated to showcasing the rich history of aviation during this pivotal era. It houses a vast collection of restored aircraft and artifacts from World War II, providing visitors with an immersive experience. The museum's strategic location in Colorado Springs, a city deeply connected to aviation history and home to the Air Force Academy, adds to its significance.
A great place to get a history lesson on WWII! Huge working selection of operating aircraft from WWII! The displays were great and love the way it gave you a chronological path through the war. Many artifacts from the war era and details of what was happening during that time. I could have spent much more time here and will probably return. A yearly membership would be well worth the cost for this museum. I’ll be back to see their air shows.

This was my first time going and it was very delightful. The employees at the front desk were polite, kind, and very nice. We chatted up a storm with them. They have general admission for 19$ per adult and 17$ per adult with a veterans discount. They have a free guided tour for the Westpac restoration. 100% recommend. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and tells the history so well he was such a delight. They also have the paid FULL guided tour. If you’re a history buff or like anything related to World War II I 100% recommend!!!!!!!!(coming from someone who doesn’t like history)

Amazing collection of WWII aircraft. Very well curated and interesting for all ages. Interesting to see the restoration shop working on the planes, Mark was an excellent tour guide. The kids really enjoyed the flight simulator. Scooter was provided for Grandpa. All of the volunteers were very kind and informative. I would recommend going online to checkout their schedule of flights as the entire collection is airworthy!

This museum was everything and more than I could have asked for. There is a lot of excellent information about WWII, the battles and the people who played a pivotal part in them, but the best part for me was the aircraft. The airplanes were amazing. All of them totally refurbished and in flying condition. My dad flew in WWII and told me about many of these planes. Seeing them in the museum made me feel like my dad was there with me. I will return to this amazing place and see what else they have brought back to life. I highly recommend it to everyone.

I came from Taiwan, I am truly filled with deep emotion and reflection here. I want to thank the U.S. Air Force for all the help they have provided to my compatriots, both in the past and up to the present. Thank you to the Flying Tigers, thank you to all the American soldiers who sacrificed their lives on the Asian battlefields, and thank you to all the selfless Americans. Thank you for the assistance the U.S. provided to Asian countries during World War II, and thank you to the volunteer docent, Mr. Roh, for his detailed explanation. Many of the things I saw at the museum brought tears to my eyes. Some I had seen before in textbooks, and some were entirely new to me. I immediately took photos and shared them to my friends. All Chinese-speaking people are aware of this history and are very familiar with it. My friends all chimed in, excitedly adding details and expressing their gratitude for me sharing today's experience I do not live in Colorado; this is my first time visiting, and it may very well be my last. However, I believe that in the future, other Chinese speakers will come here to express similar sentiments to mine.

I’ve always had an interest for history and especially World War II history. When I saw this museum was in Colorado Springs, I knew I had to check it out while I was visiting. I prepaid for admission, which was a couple bucks cheaper than paying onsite and also opted for the Guided Tour, which allows you to visit West Pac Restorations where you can see projects they’re working on for the museum. The museum was beautifully curated and a magnificent sight to see! My tour guide, John, was very knowledgeable and passionate, which made for a great experience. He mentioned things change every time so every visit could be different. I also tried the flight simulator, which was a lot of fun. I highly recommend visiting this museum if you’re in Colorado Springs or anywhere nearby and have an affinity with history!

We visited the museum as a family. There was so much information! The displays were engaging and interesting. My kids enjoyed looking at all the planes and artifacts. We enjoyed Matt (our docent for the Westpac tour) and all the stories and information he had to share. He was knowledgeable and interesting. We spent about 3 hours and I easily could have stayed longer if plans and kids would have allowed. We happened to be in town on a day they flew some of the planes which was really cool to see.
Katie L — Google review
We really enjoyed this museum! We were there for 2hrs right until closing, but wish we would have had more time to look around. We did the guided tour through Westpac with Matt and learned about their restoration process and a lot of history about the planes. There’s a flight simulator which was entertaining to watch people do. All members and staff were incredibly nice and knowledgeable. It’s so cool that all the planes have been restored to flying condition!

Outdoor Activities
Pikes Peak is a 14,115-ft. pink granite peak in Colorado Springs, offering hiking trails with breathtaking views, climbing opportunities, and campgrounds. The area also features a condo with amenities like complimentary wireless internet access and a garden for relaxation. Visitors can explore the region's history through guided tours of a cave that has been part of local legends since 1000 AD. Additionally, the peak offers stunning panoramic views described in 'America the Beautiful' by Katharine Bates.
What an amazing drive! I recommend starting early in the morning and checking the weather. I bought our tickets online the day before and checking in at the ranger station at the start was easy. Be sure to get gas and prepare for huge elevation gains. The road is well maintained for August. All of the ranger throughout the park are excellent.
Ordell — Google review
Amazing and crazy drive up to the peak. The drive down was even crazier. There is basically no guardrail! Every time we turned, there was another great view. The observatory at the peak was great and you can find donuts at the gift shop. They are overpriced but good. It was a little difficult for us during our visit because of the altitude but it was still great. It's windy so bring a jacket during the colder months. Be sure to use the lower gears while descending so that your brakes don't burn out. There's a check point that checks the brake temperature, so you don't end up on the evening news. So awesome!
Aaron L — Google review
Very very special experience, for drive my own car to such elevation 4300m above sea level. There are lots of hair-pin curves, and steep uphills on the road, some part of road near cliff, so you may require some driving skill.
Hanhua G — Google review
Best motorcycle ride ever. Amazing views everywhere. Just beware of gust of wind that hits all of sudden. Five minutes of calm then 5 seconds of what seems like a wall of air.
Bryan C — Google review
It is just an absolutely stunning drive up to the peak. It does take a while so account for that and have sunscreen. If you’re sensitive to altitude sickness get the canned air. And anticipate it to be way colder at the top than you expect.
Michelle D — Google review
We rented a hybrid jeep and it worked great on the drive to the top and the coasting to the bottom. The visitor center is great with plenty of restrooms and food choices. We had two kids and a dog and everyone was feeling the altitude a bit at the top. Nothing too bad for us but there were some older people that were clearly struggling. We took our time on the way down and stopped everywhere we could to take in the views.
Nick B — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking! We originally planned to take the train but decided not to—and I’m so glad we still went. The drive up offers incredible views, though it might be challenging for those with a fear of heights. The visitor center is beautiful, and the scenery alone makes the trip worthwhile. We visited in July, and it was very windy, so be sure to dress in layers!
Kerime S — Google review
What a beautiful place to be. Line to enter was okay. It was about 15min wait. We got our ticket and started driving. Uphill drive is not too bad. Loved every bit of it. You have to experience this in person. The pictures and videos do not do justice. The drive to the peak Is about 45 minutes. Follow the rules and take it easy. You’ll be fine. There’s parking available once you are on the top. There’s also a cafe, bathrooms. The cafe line was pretty long but moving quickly. We tried their famous donuts, coffee and popcorn. The hot chocolate was delicious. The popcorn was fresh. The donuts were devoured by the kids. Sooooo good. The view is spectacular. Oxygen levels are low and you do feel nauseous and dizzy once you are up there. Drink lots of water, rest, take breaks. The weather is also colder so do dress in layers. The drive downhill is tricky. Use low gear, don’t ride your brakes and go slow. Enjoy the view. Overall it was an amazing experience. Do check them out.

Hiking area
The Broadmoor Seven Falls is a stunning park in Colorado, known as the Grandest Mile of Scenery. It features a series of magnificent waterfalls, rising 1,250 feet between the towering Pillars of Hercules. The falls offer breathtaking views and opportunities to go behind them or climb challenging steps for stunning vistas. Accessible via shuttle bus from The Broadmoor hotel, it's an ideal spot for a morning excursion.
Beautiful scenery and well maintained. The waterfalls are worth seeing and some decent little hikes after. Be prepared for a lot of stairs. Got the quads burning but once again we'll worth it! We went on the weekend so the line for shuttle was long but they have a couple running so it wasn't to bad.
Brad S — Google review
This was my favorite thing we did on our vacation to Colorado Springs. We went to the parking area around 8:30-8:45 and got right on a shuttle. The walk up to the falls after getting dropped off by the shuttle was some of the most amazing scenery I've ever experienced. We are 56 year olds who do exercise regularly and we did fine with the steps up. Once up the steps, we thoroughly enjoyed the hiking. When we came back down there were a lot more people there so we recommend going early. We did not have to wait long for a return shuttle. Highly recommend this adventure!
Kristine S — Google review
Our first time seeing the beauty of this place. Be prepared to walk but the walk is full of breath taking views. Once you reach the falls you'll have a 224 step climb to to the top but it is well worth it when you get to the top. This is a must see in Colorado Springs. Well worth the $23 admission. We have an amazing day and some us forgettable memories.
Shawn C — Google review
I visited on an early fall morning as the sun was rising. To get to the falls, you will need to park at the Penrose Event Center and take the free shuttle ride to Seven Falls due to limited parking at the Falls. It's a 0.8 mile walk on a paved path to the falls from the entrance. There are many towering rocks and streams along the way. You can view the waterfalls by climbing up 224 very steep stairs or from the eagles nest viewing platform which can be accessed from an elevator. Well worth the visit!
Lyndee D — Google review
Worth the wait and cost to get in! It was a beautiful walk through the gorge up to the waterfall with a pretty stream and mini waterfalls off to the side of the path. You have to take a shuttle there. It takes a while to get on the shuttle and then walk up to the falls so definelty plan a decent chunk of your day if not expect it to take most of your day, this for sure isn’t a quick trip in and out!
Alyssa — Google review
This place was beautiful Its a lot of walking and once you go up the stairs and back down my legs were killing me. If you are scared of heights definitely dont do it. I was up 7 stairs and got supper scared and had to cling on the rail If I dared to look up or down I got really bad vertigo. The water wasn't running as good as other people's photos. Must be the time of the year. We were the first people In the park so everything was closed but the only bathrooms are 1/3 of the way in Beautiful walk up it's a little hard in the knees and once you get to the top it's beautiful
Anabel H — Google review
It was nice, short hikes, stairs are a lot for people that don’t like stairs. The Eagle’s Nest has an elevator, I recommend using that so then there is only one set of stairs to climb. There is no access to the falls from the Eagle’s Nest or the hiking trail. The shuttles at the end were crazy. We had to wait over an hour as they didn’t have enough shuttles to get everyone back and they took a long time for some reason to turn back around. Several people walked the miles back and some took Uber’s.

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Colorado Springs, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo stands out as a premier conservation park that is home to over 700 animals. This unique mountain zoo offers visitors an array of interactive experiences, including the chance to feed giraffes and engage with various other species like goats and elephants. With its stunning exhibits such as the Asian Highlands and Rocky Mountain Wild, guests can explore diverse habitats while learning about endangered species conservation efforts.
Every year my sister and I take a trip together, we stop at one zoo per trip and we have visited some very cool zoos (KC zoo is our home zoo). This zoo was so much fun! And has some of the nicest enclosures, we were very excited about this. We LOVE seeing the animals have amazing space to live out their lives. While here the giraffe enclosure was being renovated. There was a baby gorilla. So many elephants and giraffes it was impressive. The hippos were vocal and the penguins come right up to the fence within reach.....but DO NOT touch them! The wallabys are free to roam so close the gates in their area! Loved this zoo
Melynda L — Google review
This place is AMAZING!! It's huge! Prepare for lots of walking and hills. Do not come here without pocket money. There are cafes and ice cream and popcorn and you can feed the giraffes so bring enough money for everyone in your group. But you can bring outside food and drinks so be smart. The animals are beautiful and look well cared for. The entire zoo was a clean environment. They even have 2 designated SMOKING AREAS!! like that was great to have a place to smoke. And there's staff everywhere so if you have questions about the animals or something else they're around to help. We had a fantastic day!!
Ashley D — Google review
This is a cool zoo. Easy to traverse and handicap accessible however some inclines as to be expected. Under construction during our visit but it didn’t stop us from seeing everything. Spent about 2 hours from start to finish. Love that they do dog days! So fun.
Jessica B — Google review
Although under renovation as of November 2025, you can still navigate this zoo without too much disruption. The upgrades will be completed sometime in 2026. The animals look very healthy and have room to move and the natural mountain setting is breathtaking. Anyone not accustomed to the elevation (and even locals) should come prepared with plenty of water for everyone in their party so as to not spoil the fun. The pizza restaurant is great with an enormous oven built in Italy and there are only two in the Western part of the US. If you want to bring your own cooler with lunch, it's allowed and there are multiple areas to set up your picnic. The sky ride up the mountain has an extra cost but it's worth it. There is a nice carousel for the kids for an extra $2. If navigating the mountain is difficult, you can purchase a $3. ticket that is good all day and get picked up and drop off by cart throughout the park. The entrance fee is reasonable so these extra costs are not outrageous. Unless you arrive by a car sharing service, you are required to purchase tickets online in advance because of the limited parking during construction. The Roger's shrine can be accessed by car, but you must get through the gate by 3pm. To see the majority of the park plan on 2-4 hours. Completely worth it! A beautiful retreat.
Rosemary L — Google review
Super unique and fun zoo, friendly staff, lots to see. They are not kidding when they call this a "mountain zoo" because it's legit all uphill (bring a stroller if you have any kids under 3, because it's a ton of uphill walking and our 2.5 year old couldn't do it all). The layout is a little confusing, likely because of the zoo being on a mountain, you have to backtrack some to get to the next section, but once you figure it out, it's easy enough (use the maps to help). Despite these learning curves, we still had a great time, and our kids did too. Giving 5 stars because we didn't have any issues, just new experiences. Enjoy!!
Emily V — Google review
Listen I know we've all been to the zoo. What could make this one so special right? I'm telling you it's magic. What makes it so enjoyable? - The zoo feels like it's made for the animals. Not for us. No overcrowding of as many different animals as possible into one place with lots of outdoor space and things to do make the animals less stressed. But honestly, it makes for a more enjoyable experience for the visitor as well. - Unique exhibit layout. Ways to experience animals I have frankly never encountered. - Lots of animal interaction opportunities. - Good food. This is a strange one to mention at a zoo but the food was shockingly tasty. - Incredible view. It's not very often that just walking around a zoo is half the beauty. I would come back here again and again. Cannot say enough good things.
Erin W — Google review
The BEST zoo we have been too to date! We LOVED all the animal up close & being able to touch & feed animals. A lot of uphill but totally worth it! They have plenty of benches all over for resting if you get tired easily! Take a rain poncho, backpack, water, snacks. So cool that it is on the mountain. Loved the views. Excited for the new giraffe habitat to get finished to go back & see that! We got to see the new baby gorilla. Baby was definitely the star of the zoo, EVERYONE loved the baby. Too cute. Definitely recommend going to this zoo!
Brittny D — Google review
Stuck an amazing environment to bring our girls to! They have had stuck a blast every time we go. Last time the baby wallaby were out and they got to pet them. The staff also let our girls assist them in feeding the reptiles because we were practically the only people in the zoo, so a membership saved us the hassle of waiting in line and scored our 5 girls a once in a lifetime moment contributing to the zoos morning breakfast routine! Such an amazing and unforgettable day!

Gold Mine Tours Inc. offers group tours of its underground facility, including tram rides and exhibits. The hour-long tour takes visitors 1000 feet below the surface of a former operational gold mine, providing an educational experience for all ages. Knowledgeable guides, who are experienced miners themselves, share insights into mining techniques and demonstrate historical equipment used in the industry. Visitors can explore the property while waiting for the tour to start and enjoy informative storytelling from guides like Harley.
My husband and I went on this tour today, our guide was Patrick. We had a great time! The mine shaft elevator is pretty tight quarters but really neat. We loved all of the demonstrations of the actual old mining equipment and learned a lot. Patrick was a lot of fun and great with the kids on the tour. We got to see a lot of informational items as well as some cool mineral formations. Would absolutely recommend.

Great tour! So glad we did it! Our tour guide Mark”? was great! He seemed genuinely excited about the history of the mine and was easy to listen to. I was hesitant about the elevator ride down after reading other reviews, but it wasn’t too bad. Tight as sardines if you are claustrophobic you should know that. Also, the ride down & back up is about 95% dark and the elevator rattles & rocks slightly. But worth the trip down/up. Very educational and the hour went by quickly.

What an adventure! The Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine tour was an unforgettable experience, taking us 1000 feet underground into the heart of Colorado’s gold mining history. Our guide was fantastic—informative, funny, and super kind. He made the whole tour even better, and he even snuck us some extra gold ore along with the free pieces you get to pick from at the end! 😉 The tour itself was fascinating. You vertically descend 100 stories into the mine, ride an underground tram, and get to see gold veins in their natural state. The mining equipment demonstrations were really cool, and it gave us a great appreciation for what the miners went through back in the day. Plus, it’s only a short and easy walk underground. After the mines, I highly recommend heading into Cripple Creek town—the food there is so good, and there are tons of cute stores to shop around. It’s the perfect way to round out the day! If you’re in Cripple Creek, you have to do this tour. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to dive into Colorado’s rich mining history—plus, who doesn’t love free gold ore?!
Breanna M — Google review
For quick summary details, go to bottom of review. This was an absolutely outstanding tour of the mines. Not only do you get to see mines, but you get to see equipment used, and a demonstration. Also, our tour guide, Mark, was extremely great at the tour. He was making some jokes while going through the tour and just causing some laughs while explaining each part of the mines in great detail and expertise. And on top of the mines experience back at the gift shop, no pun intended, the staff were excellent, understanding, and kind. And bathrooms are very nice and clean. To any staff that see this, I appreciate your kindness and respect. Also, I suggest bringing a jacket, as it's a nice 50° F in the mines, or be like my crazy Texan mind and not even bring a jacket to Colorado! Best experience we have had in our 3 days of being in Colorado! Went on 6/7/2024 at near 1:30 and the tour began at 2:00. *QUICK READ INFO Temp: 50° F Depth: 1,000 ft Our Guide: Mark (great guide)

First tour down in to a mine. Was a great time and very informative. Well worth the price of admission and the trip just to see it. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Cripple Creek is just below the mine and your able to over look a working mine next door. Also you can start the phantom canyon road from here which will take you about 2 hours to travel.
David W — Google review
I visited the Mollie Kathleen mine tour in May of 2023. I thought it was great, with lots of educational demonstrations and explanations as well as just really cool being in tunnels that deep underground. Heads up that the trip down is cramped, so just be prepared; though they do warn you about it ahead of time on the website. If you visit, I strongly suggest after the tour going across the street to the heritage center and seeing the scale model of the Mollie Kathleen mine; it really gives you a nice sense of scale for the tour.

What an amazing place! It is definitely worth the drive up there. Sarah - our guide - is the sweetest person, she’s so knowledgeable, professional & friendly! Don’t worry, if you’re claustrophobic, it’s not that bad. It’s a 2 min elevator ride to the bottom, and the tour down there is just outstanding. This gold mine has been operational since 1891! It’s cold up there, so keep yourself warm.

Plus, there’s an elevator and stairs, so it’s accessible for everyone!

This was a very nice stop and definitely needed before coming into downtown Cripple Creek. .There are a lot of historic museum pieces inside. Terrific views from the windows with explanations of the mountain peaks. There is a thirty minute show, which I didn't see because we were hungry and wanted to get downtown.

This is a really nice place to relax and get your bearings before heading into Cripple Creek. Three floors of history at no cost, though donations are appreciated. There are indoor bathrooms here as well. Plenty of parking with no restaurant.

I enjoy that you can travel to many, many spots here in Colorado and they have free activities for family to partake in. This is one of those places. This three story facility has a breath taking views from every parking spot and every window in the center. They have information on mining in the area, how it influenced the area and the men that pioneered the area for resources found during mining as well as dinosaur bones that were found while working the rock quarries. You can see a miniature version of the town with a toy train as well as so economic of what was found while mining the area. I dislike the very obvious void in native history and colonizers effects on them and their lives during the documented time.

I have never been to a welcoming Center like this. At the main level, you learn about the town and history. Lower level you learn about transportation. At the upper level, you learn about dinosaurs and the land. The view out the back windows are amazing

Departing from an 1894 depot, this 45-minute steam-engine train ride offers a glimpse into the area's old gold mining days. The heritage track passes historic mines, an old trestle, and stops at various points of interest for great photo opportunities.
Such an awesome experience! So much cool history on this ride! Plus, who doesn't want to ride a train with a steam engine? The other passengers were nice too. It was a fun and casual ride through the mountains. Absolutely would recommend it!

What a great little destination. We drove from Colorado Springs and it was easy and pleasant. The history of the gold rush was very interesting. We took the little train ride and what fun. We were able to talk with conductor and engineer. We have great pizza from a vendor in the parking lot. Then we went to 6 casinos! Stopped in Woodland Park for Mexican on the way back.

My family loved it! Parking has a2hr limit, which is nice. There seemed to be plenty of parking because the train left every hour or so. We quickly parked, bought our tickets and waited for about 15 min before the train arrived. In the meantime, my husband bought a sweater($40) and we got popcorn($2 box) for the kids. The train wasn't fast or slow, it was perfect for seeing the sights and the story about the area and train were pretty cool.

Our first time in cripple Creek! We went for donkey days and had a blast! We were able to pet the donkeys, see a couple of races and visit the booths along the street. The railroad was fun to visit too. Lots of cool things to see.

Fun train ride with pretty views! Trip takes about 45min. Conductor makes a few stops to give information about the history of the land & town. We had Tad, he did great & was funny!

My wife and I got here into Cripple Creek and people told us to take the train. We did just that, our guide or engineer, was remarkable at his knowledge and his humor. We learned a lot on this short train ride, took a lot of amazing pictures. When we visit again with relatives, we will be doing this train ride once more.

We loved it. Zoe and Tad were amazing guides and conductor/ engineer. We learned more about the area’s history in gold mining and got some local advice on food and other activities in the area. The kids loved it!

When you hear that it's only 4 miles, you might scoff. But this is the right 4 miles to be totally worthwhile. The views are legit and the engineer / tour guide is interesting, kind, but doesn't "talk your ear off". I recommend this to anyone. My 15 year old son was as intrigued as my wife and me. Coal-fired steam engine ride under $20? Heck yeah!

The Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum, situated on the outskirts of Pueblo at the Pueblo Memorial Airport, is a treasure trove for aviation enthusiasts. Established by local aviation aficionados in the 1980s, this museum boasts an extensive collection of over two dozen historic military aircraft and vehicles. The museum has undergone several expansions and now includes two large hangars housing various exhibits such as the International B-24 Memorial Museum and the Southern Colorado Space Museum and Learning Center.
It was impressive collection of planes, jets, and NASA space equipment. In one of the hangars you can get it the aircraft and it was the coolest experience for my family and I. Thanks again, shout out to George our tour guide. Come see it!!

Second time my family and I have been here, and we love it each time! The staff is amazing; the wonderful lady working in the front is so friendly and made sure my boys were having a great time. Our tour guide is a very knowledgeable and super kind great guy! We met Mr. Corky Hayden, and he showed my boys all the experiments and let them play. He is very charming and very friendly; we could have talked with him for hours. The best museum around!

Smaller but very nice aircraft museum very informative volunteers, we loved talking with George and watching the Earth rise video in the hanger with the Space Program exhibits including the actual helicopter that picked up Alan Sheppard from the water after his Freedom 7 flight into space.

What a great museum with 2 massive hangars full of planes and a large outdoor display of planes as well. The best exhibit in my opinion is the B29 Superfortess which you actually climb into and see the flight deck. Lots of historical planes from WW2, the Vietnam and Korean wars plus the Cold War right up to Desert Storm. Absolutely loved to the place

This is a great aircraft museum, well worth visiting and it has a fairly easy access from I25 so its a great place to get out and stretch your legs. The staff are great and very knowledgeable. My Father was a Waist Gunner on a bomber in WWII, I feel like this museum has done an outstanding job of honoring those that served as well as those who were lost in our various wars. There is also a great display of our various space endeavors. And they have a nice gift store as well.

I am very thankful for this opportunity to see such history of our great country and feel like it is so alive to touch and imagine like I was there this is the greatest country that has ever been. I hope this place is around forever as a reminder of why these things we're built and the freedom we have because of this them. I wish they could have been built for peace✌️ just think.. .. ..... thanks and thankful!!@@!!

Especially for such a small town, this museum is absolutely excellent. Tiny price of entry and extremely rich history on display. They have all kinds of incredible displays, from uniforms donated by remarkable individuals themselves to massive aircraft with great historical and technical value. The staff themselves are excellent people as well, all with their own great personal stories too. Ask for details about anything and you will not be disappointed!
Alexander C — Google review
Great and knowledgeable staff! Very friendly! My kids loved how they could get inside some of the planes and helicopters. Lots of NASA stuff and two hangers to go into full of things and air crafts to explore and look at plus a bunch of airplanes outside to see and you can get on the tank and take pictures. Highly recommend

Rosemount Museum

Rosemount Museum is a 37-room Victorian mansion built in 1893, featuring period furniture and guided tours. Located near Mineral Park just north of Downtown Pueblo, the three-story, 24,000 square-foot museum offers an authentic step back in time to the Thatcher family's residency. The mansion showcases amazing turn-of-the-century craftsmanship and beauty with most of the home's furnishings remaining unchanged.
My first visit to The Rosemont Museum was at the Christmas open house Sunday. It did not disappoint. The main doors were open to visitors, which opened to the grand staircase where carolers performed. What a treat! Each room had wonderful decorations celebrating the season. And I know now that I will be back after the holidays to see the original decor, which I was told over 85% are original to the Thatcher family. Surprisingly, the 3rd floor housed many artifacts brought over from the Andrew McClelland Museum, including a mummy. I'm especially shocked to see that there as I would have thought the Egyptian government would insist on its return. Still, fascinating to see so close up. Each room showcased life for the family from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. Pretty interesting to see.

This museum is so neat to walk into! Not to pricey to look around and get a full tour. Everything in the Victorian house is preserved so well you get a really good idea of what it was like to live as a posh Thatcher during the Victorian Era. Our guide did a great job sharing stories, answering questions and explaining different parts of the house. You cannot take pictures inside the building but the art alone throughout the house is like an art gallery. So many beautiful details to admire. The fireplace mantels, chairs, drapes and more are all very ornate and neat to see. The stained glass by the staircase is as big as a cathedrals very beautiful and detailed.

Fantastic Museum / Mansion. There is no self guided tour - you get a tour guide when you walk through this large home. The woodworking detail is in every room, painted ceilings, grand fireplaces, large painted (stained glass look) windows, many exhibits including a real mummy. May have to wait a few minutes for a tour time and there is limited parking - 2 hour parking time limit around museum on street. We took exactly 2 hours with tour and gift shop. Prices were extremely reasonable. Don’t pass by this place. No picture taking allowed inside building.

Wow, what an amazing Victorian Mansion this Home is and that it is so full of Historical facts about the Owners. If you have a chance to go see this Wonderful Home, you will not be disappointed.. Thanks Debbie and Staff we really enjoyed our Tour. Steve & Lorri Hose ~ Littleton ~

The Rosemont Museum is a beautiful hidden gem in Pueblo! The stained glass window is absolutely stunning huge and full of color, definitely a highlight. The staircases and woodwork throughout the home are amazing, and you can really feel the history in every detail. Our guide was great and very informative. My only complaint is that the tour felt a little rushed, and I wish we had more time to explore or peek into more of the rooms. Still, it was a lovely experience overall and I’d definitely recommend a visit if you’re in the area! I will definitely come back!

While the facility itself was fantastic and truly impressive, our experience was unfortunately overshadowed by the way we were treated upon arrival. Our group consisted of four moms and our kids—16 people total—all of whom had purchased tickets in advance through Groupon. We carefully reviewed the website ahead of time to plan our visit, and at no point did we see any requirement to make a reservation for groups over 10. When we arrived, the person who greeted us (Deb) seemed visibly frustrated and immediately chastised us for not making a group reservation, insisting that the website states this is required. I have since double-checked and still see no such mention. If group reservations are necessary, that should be clearly stated on the website and during the ticket purchase process. More disappointing than the misunderstanding, however, was the unwelcoming attitude we received. Deb made it feel as though our presence was an inconvenience and spoke as if scrambling to accommodate us was a burden. As paying visitors supporting a local historical site, we expected to be met with hospitality, not frustration. We sincerely hope this was an isolated incident, as the facility itself is well worth the visit—but a warmer welcome would have made all the difference.

OMG!! This place and the history is incredible. I lived every minute of our experience here. It has so much beauty and history. I would definitely recommend seeing this place. I would love to go back around Christmas time when they have it all decorated. We visited in July and they had all the beautiful wedding dresses out! I asked when her birthday was as if you’re like me and curious she’s a libra! Nice to know as a Gemini. I could see the similarities in the decor she loved. Amazing place! Check it out.

This was a wonderful experience aboard an operating steam engine. We took our toddler(total party size:5) and went with the Deluxe Car. This was nice because the table we had gave them room to do little activities in between points of interest. Kiddo also took a nap right on the floor. Our attendant was Darlene, she was amazing and delivered top notch service. Lunch was ok, I would compare it to college cafeteria style buffet with plenty of options. Staff there was kind and helpful. We would absolutely do this trip again.

Absolutely loved the train ride! From a landscape photographers point of view it was a dream come true for me as I enjoyed the new scenery for new ideas. When we stopped in osier, the lunch was fabulous and thank you for all the hard work of the people working there to provide us lunch! Everyone was so nice and the conductors would give out pieces of history on the train ride all the way to Chama. I absolutely loved it and was certainly bring Family to go onto the train.

Absolutely loved this place. I’m not typically a high desert enthusiast, but there was some thing magical about this place. The campgrounds, the views, the wildlife, such as bighorn, sheep, and cliff, swallows, and hummingbirds and much more played a role in mesmerizing me. Cannot wait to return!
Joel H — Google review
This is one of my favorite places in New Mexico. It doesn't look like much as you're driving in through Cerro. The country is flat and dry. Lots of sage and pinon and juniper. Then you start seeing the overlooks. At several points, you can drive a short ways and walk to an overlook into the Rio Grande Gorge, an 800 ft drop. If you drive to the end of the circular road, you will find La Junta point. This is where the Rio Grande and the Red River meet. Spectacular spot. Because this park is not in the mountains, few people go here. The road is in good shape, and the campgrounds are very nice. It is quiet and breezy and magical. In the mornings and evenings, you will see deer and longhorn sheep and other wildlife. Along the rim of the canyon, you will see hawks and eagles floating on the air. There is a long level trail, around 6 miles, and several trails going to the bottom of the Gorge. Locals still know this area by its older name, Wild Rivers. There is a small Rangers station with friendly people

The Wild Rivers Visitors Center provides stunning views of the Rio Grande Gorge and offers a loop trail as well as access to a nearby fish hatchery. While it is only a few miles west of Questa, visitors must drive about 15 miles north via NM 522 to NM 378. The park rangers are friendly and knowledgeable, providing directions and information about the area. The Visitor Center may be small but has all necessary information for visitors.
Camped here for a night, hiked down to the river and watched an amazing sunset over the canyon. The lady who helped us in the visitor center was super helpful in our decision which camp site to pick.
Reid C — Google review
Helpful staff. Restrooms closed. Road into this area closed to 1 way traffic with a stop light and piolet car at 5 mph to take you all the way to the visitors center adding 30 min to the visit. However the views at the La Junta campground and trail head were wonderful. There is a bike lane that follows the 1 way loop drive from the visitor center to La Junta campground and look out. We saw Lots of bikers riding this loop and one told us he’s been coming for years. Very sunny and hot the day we visited in mid September. Recommend hat, water, sunscreen. The La Junta trail has been closed for 3 years or so. Overall kind of disappointing, thus the 2 star review.
Tyler D — Google review
As others have stated, Wild Rivers BLM is definitely off the beaten path. However, its easy to get here down a main paved highway. The roads in the park are paved. The campsite loops are gravel/unpaved but ok. We travel in a 38 Renegade Valencia. We found only a few sites that could easily handle our size. (No tow vehicle). Site 27 in El Auguaje was long enough for even a tow vehicle. Trees are an obstacle backing in. Park time was 10 minutes max. A little maneuvering. Its worth the drive and the maneuvering for the campground & the views. The campgrounds are connected by a nice, one way paved road loop with a bicycle path. My wife loves to e-bike so this is perfect. Each site has a gazebo with a metal roof & picnic table. No electricity. No dump. Water is available at the toilets. This is boondocking at its best. AT&T was 20mbs. Great! We camped at El Aguaje Campground in a 38’ Super C.

Camped here several times over the years. Seems to be getting more popular. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Each loop does not have too many sites which is a plus. Great views of river gorges and several hiking trails. Sites and bathrooms very clean and well maintained.

Really really great views here. I went when there wasn’t a ton of people so I got to really enjoy the scenic views without the loud hustle and bustle. There’s a bunch of trails down to the river. The park rangers are quite nice and are great at directions. It’s about a 10 mile drive out to the park from Questa I think so don’t forget your water. (There is a water fountain near the trail though, but I wouldn’t depend on that.)

Awesome park with stellar views of the Rio Grande and Red River convergence. Hardly anyone there. Great hikes can be found down to the rivers, but they aren't the easiest, lots of switchbacks and lots of elevation change. Views are amazing!!

Cimarron Canyon State Park

Scenic canyon bisected by the Cimarron River, with hiking, camping, trout fishing & ample wildlife.
Good spot near the river. Facilities were clean. Spots weren’t perfectly and obviously marked but good enough. Everyone was respectful with noise and generators. Trees and terrain coupled with running water drown out 90% of road noise nearby.
Dustin C — Google review
Nice and quiet. Being next to the small lake that’s there is awesome and there’s plenty of people catching fish. Seems like a good family environment and there was only one person with a quiet generator when we stayed there so it didn’t bother anybody.
Nate O — Google review
Cimarron Canyon is an amazing place with the most beautiful and dramatic features. The day use parks and overnight campgrounds are in great shape and provide a excellent retreat from the world. Cimarron Creek runs through the canyon with lots of pull outs to sit, fish, or draw. I stayed at the Maverick Campground. Well managed with running water. They have sites that are not up against the road, so it's quite with several stocked fishing ponds. Overnight is just $10. Best deal ever!
David L — Google review
Camping sites are cramped and stuffed together. Doesn't feel very outdoorsy (right by the highway). The surrounding areas (fishing, creeks, “trails” are not taken care of (dog crap, trash), the bathrooms they have are closed a lot, and porta-potties are directly next to campsites (that was gross). “Quiet time” is not enforced unless your campsite is right next to where the dude who “runs it,” and by runs it, I mean telling campers various prices only in cash for campsites and arrival times. If you have any feedback, he uses his “phone the park ranger card” as a threat 😅 honestly, he's wasting their time and cannot run the campground, plainly. I wanted to get a good impression of New Mexico as I'd never been there. Supporting a state park would easily win my heart and cure my curiosity. My curiosity is cured, that's for sure. The person who runs that campground does not represent New Mexico at all, at least I'd hope not. I'd choose a different campground regardless of preference for proximity to other campers.

Beautiful place to spend the day. We went to the gravel pits to go fishing and caught several trout. It was so peaceful and the fall colors were amazing.
Angel R — Google review
This was a very "strange" state park RV campground, but I still really liked and enjoyed our 3 days camping here. The overall park is very beautiful & was wonderfully green for this time of year in the southwestern desert mountains. Its a strange campground, because its basically a huge paved parking lot with truck & trailer combo or RV sized marked parking spaces, but zero hook-ups (which I have since come to learn is a norm for many NM state park RV campgrounds). There is also 2 bathrooms - one with sinks, & another huge vault toilet without running water - but there were no showers anywhere. There was also no marked dump stations. There was 3 running water spigots to use in random places in the parking lot that you were permitted to fill your tanks with, but 2 were located at sites (one was occupied by the host), so are therefore essentially inaccessible. In spite of these issues I still like the park, as the camp host was super nice & helpful and we met some very nice & helpful other guests here. Its also a pretty location overlooking a mountain/canyon wall (I was even inspired to paint it!). I should also note that the facility is also very well-maintain & kept clean by super nice staff. There is also walking access to the creek, which was nice. I gave a 4 due to the lack of infrastructure & facilities, however, as I don't think it should be much of a stretch for the state on NM to put in at least a few more electric pedestals & more publically accessible water spigots (since the host has one each) - but I really liked it. I also gave it a 4 for noise. Since its mostly an RV boondocking parking lot, in the summer it seems like every other person is running a generator. The campground is also literally right off the highway (which I've also learned is another NM state park norm).
Renee K — Google review
The place is crowded, and you're packed in. The road noise is moderate but there isn't much traffic. The park and wilderness is beautiful. There is a beautiful river running through it. I would stay there again, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

This is not a bad hike to a beautiful alpine lake. It starts off with some elevation gain, but the last mile is not bad. There were some people that camped out there and said the full moon made it an incredible evening. You can stop here on your way up or down for the Wheeler Peak trail. I stopped on the way up, but it could make a refreshing dip after a challenging hike.
St C — Google review
A really beautiful lake with lots of foot traffic, but get an early start! The hike should only take 1.5 hours to get there for most people, but lots of foot traffic and waiting for people might make it take longer. Some steep sections at the beginning (4 switchbacks), but later in the hike, there are some nice flatter sections. The views can’t be beaten, and there is a campground on the west side of the trail near a boulder-field as you approach the lake. I did see people camping in tents right by the lake also, so I assume it’s allowed. The Wheeler Peak trail cuts off of this trail right before the lake.

What a gem of a hike! I trekked up to Williams Lake yesterday and was blown away by its pristine beauty—the crystal-clear turquoise water nestled against rugged peaks and lush pine forests under a perfect blue sky. The trail winds through scenic meadows and rocky paths, with some rewarding spots to rest and take it all in. It's moderately challenging but totally worth it for the serene views at the top. If you're in the area, don't miss this New Mexican lake—5 stars all the way! Photos attached show the panorama, my chill spot by the lake, and even a ptarmigan I spotted along the way.

The Williams Lake trail is the signature hike in the Taos Ski Valley area. The trail head starts near lift 4 at Taos and its a moderate somewhat uphill hike to the lake which took us a little over an hour to get to. The hike back was all downhill for the most part and took around 45 minutes to get back. All in the hike was 2 hours total. In any event it was one of the coolest trails we've ever hiked and a definite must do if your in the Taos Ski Valley area during the summer time.

Williams lake is a fun and easy hike for beginners / any and all hikers above age 4 or 5. It’s a nice place to sit and relax, maybe have a picnic or quick lunch. It’s best to leave before the afternoon showers show up around 1/2/3pm unless you enjoy riding home all wet and sloppy. The views are well worth you time and it can make for a nice, relaxing day hike.
