Taos

Taos is a town in northern New Mexico’s high desert, bounded by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It’s known for historic adobe buildings such as Taos Pueblo, a multistory adobe complex inhabited by Native Americans for centuries. A longtime artist colony, Taos also offers many galleries and museums showcasing regional artwork, including the Harwood Museum of Art and the Taos Art Museum.

San Francisco de Asís Catholic Mission Church, situated in Ranchos de Taos just south of Taos, is a remarkable example of Spanish Colonial architecture. Constructed in the late 18th century entirely from adobe, it features striking sculptural buttresses and two front-facing bell towers. The interplay of light and shadow on its dramatic shapes has made it a beloved subject for artists like Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams.
Beautiful. Historic. There are a few restaurants and shops nearby if you go after 10am, so you can really take your time. The building is beautiful, but more historically remarkable. Keep in mind this still a practicing church. Be respectful.

Beautiful and peaceful Mission Church. Seeing/witnessing The Mystery Painting/Shadow of the Cross is just unexplainable. It truly is a mystery and I felt blessed sitting before it and just taking it all in.
Beatriz G — Google review
This adobe mission church is one the most photographed in New Mexico. It’s open to tourists and also on the trolley stop, with a quick visit to enjoy the garden and interior.

We visited the grounds of San Francisco de Asís Mission Church in Taos. Even without going inside, the adobe architecture and historic setting were beautiful and worth the stop.

A visit to The San Francisco de Assisi Mission Church in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico is awe inspiring! The church itself is a magnificent example of Spanish Colonial architecture. However, over and above this, a visit to the gift shop to gain access to experience the mysterious painting, “The Shadow of the Cross” is a must. The entire experience was remarkably and when the image of Jesus holding a cross that mysteriously appeared when the lights were closed left an indelible image of the mystery!! This is a beautiful cathedral that you should stop by if you have a chance within the city of Santa Fe.

The most photographed church for a reason. The building is a typical adobe structure but larger than most of the other adobe churches we have seen. Work to maintain the building was taking place when we visited. There are some galleries and shops on the plaza and also a couple of restaurants.
Louise R — Google review
Beautiful, peaceful and ancient church. Do visit of you get a chance to admire the adobe style architecture, great sculptures and of course the sense of peace one might feel in places like this. The place will be crowded on Sundays and parking will be hard

Taos Plaza is a charming public square and community focal point known for its craft shops, cafes, and laid-back vibe. It holds historical significance as the earliest residents of the Taos-Tiwa tribe have inhabited the valley for over a millennium. The Spanish settlers also left their mark in the area, particularly in the village of Ranchos de Taos with its San Francisco de Asis Church.
It's a lot like old Santa Fe, but less upscale (still, Yupscale). We visited in mid-Nov., and it wasn't too crowded...but many of the businesses were closed at mid-day. I dunno whether this is a seasonal thing. IF there is a season or time of day when these places are open, it'd be the PERFECT place to pick up amazingly overpriced "native" or "Made in New Mexico" stuff. Do not be shy about wandering in and out of places here. It's all very chill.

This is a fabulous location to walk around and explore. The buildings set against the blue sky is gorgeous. The feeling of the place is exotic and historical at once, and also sad. I won’t go into detail on the history but it is heavy to walk around and know how we treated some cultures and that that treatment continues through today.

Taos Plaza is the center of the Taos Historic District where locals gather for live music and farmers markets and visitors stroll through shops and galleries, historic buildings and restaurants. A majority of the most important historic sites in Taos are easily reached on a short walking. Nearby Kit Carson Road, Bent Street, and Ledoux Street lead to even more historic homes, neighborhoods, and shopping areas. As browse through the shops keep an eye out for Taos-made products. For example, Native American moccasins made in Taos are famous throughout the world. Here everyone can appreciate hand-made clothing and leatherwork. The jewelry created in Taos satisfies every taste and pocketbook. It is possible find beautiful tin and wood items, pottery, ceramics, and much more. Just about anywhere you walk in the heart of Taos you will find yourself immersed in the history of this place and of the Southwest.

Beautiful small town city center. Perfectly encapsulates the beauty of Taos. Many souvenir shops, art shops and eateries. The La Fonda is a beautiful option to stay. The evenings are pleasant with multiple live events going on around the town. Not that much crowded even on the 4th of July weekend. You can feel the calmness of the place and its serenity.

Beautiful little town. Architectural wise, it’s the same like most other NM old town. The town is full of Indian jewelry. It’s like a tourist trap to lure them in to buy. Couple nice coffee shops and stands. It’s a good town to walk around if the weather is nice.

Quaint old historic square where you could imagine people gathering and doing their shopping. Cute shops with lots to look at. Be sure to check out the old hotel on the square and walk past the square to check out galleries and museums,

This chocolate is the best tasting chocolate I have ever eaten from Chocolate & Cashmere. They provide samples because their choices are many. While walking through the Taos Plaza after a nice lunch we enjoyed visiting with Kokopelli Flutes of Taos and saw him making a flute from a piece of wood and saw his finished work.
Amy T — Google review
This plaza in Taos is a fantastic spot for shopping enthusiasts. It features charming art stores offering RC Gorman art, jewelry, and T-shirts. The traditional La Fonda hotel adds to the plaza’s allure, and the shop structures are adorably designed. You’re sure to find something to purchase here.

Museums
The Taos Art Museum at Fechin House is located in the former residence of Russian artist Nicolai Fechin and now showcases works from the Taos Society of Artists. The adobe building, constructed in 1933, features captivating landscapes and portraits by artists who contributed to Taos' reputation as a creative hub. Visitors can also admire the intricate wooden carvings adorning the columns, doors, and furniture, which reflect Fechin's Russian heritage combined with New Mexican influences.
I can feel the artistic impact on my non-artistic mind. The building was classic pubeloan style with the modern lime stone exterior color. The inside was completely renovated by the artist Nicolai Fechin, with so many of his own woodwork. Now his painting of mostly his family members are on the walls, his home become public art museum, the inside appliances also become a great showcase of 1930s. I love the experience.

If you’re debating between different house tours, this is probably the best in town. So worth it with 10 dollar student discount! Beautiful home with lots of paintings and furniture carved by Mr. Fechin. A little bit on the smaller side took me about 40 minutes to see.
Jack V — Google review
Beautiful stop, which I’m glad we made. Such an interesting story of this wonderful artist. Definitely take your time and look at every little detail. The house, the studio, AND the property / courtyard were gorgeous.
Joshua T — Google review
What a discovery! A new wing with a terrific representation of Taos artists through the years. An amazingly crafted house with beautifully detailed doors and other details by Fechin. Lovely portraits through the place done by Fechin. And one of the best curated gift shops in any museum store. The store alone is worth the visit.
Bryan S — Google review
I took some friends from out of town. It was like going to four museums in one. The new wing with permanent collection of Taos artists from a century ago is superb. An exhibit of living artists opened in the annex at the very moment we were getting our admission sorted out. I think one of my friend's favorite painting was here. The Fechin House itself is a museum of the period that shouldn't be missed. The current exhibit in that area is of Fechin's portraits, some cross referenced to artists whose paintings in the new annex. And to top it all off, the grounds are a beautiful garden in the heart of Taos'es historic district.

If you’re in Taos and only have time for one museum, let this be the one. This is one of the most magical museums I’ve ever been to. The home was constructed in the. 1930s and is an amazing blend of rustic southwestern style and Russian folk art. The artist, Fechin, who constructed the home for his family, was brilliant. His paintings, sculptures and woodwork are on display throughout the house and are breathtaking. The detail in the doors, windows and furnishings is nothing like you’ll ever see anywhere else. The house is easy to go through entirely in an hour or two and there’s a lovely curated gift shop featuring many local NM artists. I’ll need to visit this museum every time I travel to NM.
Sara P — Google review
Really enjoyed the visit. I addition to Fechin, his art and life story, the architecture was especially interesting, a blend of Taos Pueblo and craftsman designs. Love seeing the studio and the peaceful, landscaped grounds. Good gift ship has a selection of Taos artisans, jewelry and art books.

The Kit Carson Home & Museum is a preserved Spanish colonial style home that serves as a museum showcasing the life of the frontier expedition leader. The adobe home, purchased by Carson in 1843, contains artifacts such as an adobe oven, sewing box, military scabbard, and his .50 caliber Hawkins rifle. Despite Carson's controversial history, the museum has been designated a National Historic Landmark and offers visitors a glimpse into the past.
It's a little hard to find but fascinating. Regardless of how you feel about him, the places historic people lived in are so interesting. The people in charge are trying hard to keep it preserved. I was surprised his grave and the house were not marked more clearly.

We enjoyed our visit to the museum. We watched a video of his life and the times. They are hoping to do more renovations. They could have a great courtyard.

If you love the history of the Old West expansion this is a must stop. Kit Carson was a major player and this was his home for many years. Well done exhibits and his grave is nearby. Come visit the nice people you'll meet here.

The man the myth the legend, Kit Carson was one of THE guys of all time. 10 bucks gets you a 20 minute history channel episode and a tour of Kit’s house with displays and plaques. It’s a little bit small for that price but if you love Kit, maybe it’s worth it.

The Harwood Museum of Art, affiliated with UNM, is dedicated to showcasing and educating visitors about the art connected to Taos and northern New Mexico. The museum's director, Juniper Leherissey, has a deep connection to the area and oversees the 12 galleries that present a comprehensive history of art in Taos. The collection includes works from renowned artists such as members of the Taos Society of Artists, Native American artists, R.C.
Wonderful museum and fabulous gift shop with super friendly staff.

Solid, local Taos museum. Small, but well run. They were welcoming and gave us a quick overview of the building when we got there. Some of the modern art was underwhelming, as it can be in my opinion. However, it was cool to see some influential artists in the Taos area. If you’re looking for a way to experience some art and culture you can spend about an hour here then go next door for some wine tasting.
Christine Y — Google review
Nice collection of regional modern and historic art. Was quiet and we felt unhurried moving through the galleries. The museum was showing a very nice exhibition of work by artists who had used the GI Bill following WWII to get their art education, so the work was mainly from the 50s, 60s and 70s, along with a fun exhibition about a local Taos radio station. I feel I understand the culture and community of Taos much better having visited the museum. Great value!

This art museum is definitely a gem within Taos! They had a visiting art exhibit highlighting the works of veterans which was both very interesting and inspiring. There were many very cool abstract pieces in the museum as well as beautiful landscapes and thought provoking political pieces. I highly recommend stopping by!

This is a must see for any visit to Taos if you love art. The building itself is absolutely extraordinary—I’ve never walked such a creaky and musical floor. 😊 The collection is extraordinary. The Baumann on the first floor is lovely. Plenty of TAS members on display—here are some of my highlights. The staff is really friendly, too.

American restaurant
Restaurant
Lambert's of Taos is a charming restaurant located in downtown Taos, offering an intimate and upscale setting for enjoying contemporary American cuisine. The cozy cottage ambiance, complete with dim lighting and cocktail jazz, sets the stage for savoring their delectable dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. From the flavorful lamb shank to the perfectly cooked scallop dish, the menu boasts a variety of creative offerings.
Lambert’s is the gem of Taos, with a charming courtyard that offers romance and relaxation. The menu is thoughtfully curated, and the dishes are expertly prepared. The gazpacho, the bass, the dessert — every course is seasonal, made from scratch, and has an exceptional flavor profile. We appreciated the friendly, highly professional service as well…the kind you’d expect in a city many times the size. The indoor seating is likely a highlight too, but if you’re able to enjoy this historic adobe building’s al fresco dining, it’s guaranteed to please. Just perfect!

If you appreciate haute cuisine and professional service and are willing to pay for both, add Lambert’s of Taos to your To Do list. The food is not really Mexican or New Mexican. It’s more classic European-American fare with, perhaps, a Taos twist. The food is excellent. The presentation is excellent. The wait service is professional, friendly and personal. The environment is excellent. The experience is delightful! Paul Burke

The food here is the star of the show. The chef understands how flavors work together and everything is seasoned perfectly. The interior is simple and comfortable. We have enjoyed multiple meals here over the last few years and the service is always friendly and unpretentious plus we don't feel rushed to complete our meal. As long as this restaurant exists we'll be coming back.

We came to Lambert’s on our first ever visit to Taos. There are limited options in Taos for fine dining and I spent time narrowing it down for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner to make it special. I reserved using Tock and in the reservation they asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. Presumably when that is asked it is because they will offer a birthday drink or dessert, like most if not all other higher end restaurants. Both the host and the server wished him a happy birthday. When we came to the end of our meal there was nothing offered for his birthday, the server even asking if we wanted to see the dessert menu. I was embarrassed because any nice sit down restaurant offers even something small, if not then why ask and make it known that you know? For a Happy birthday from strangers? Regarding the food- the steak was very nice and well accompanied but the salmon was undercooked even for medium rare and the sides were overly sweet. We did NOT enjoy the drinks they were hard to drink because they were so overly strong. Overall, if you are celebrating something special I don’t recommend Lambert’s.

SERVICE DOGS NOT ALLOWED. Imagine driving up all the way from Santa Fe to dine and being told my service dog wasn’t allowed. My dog is calm and trained. My small dog was doing his job at my side. I was wearing business casual attire. To add insult to injury, the interior of the restaurant was empty on a Friday night. Thanks for humiliating me. I had been looking forward to the trout, especially since this would have been my first time back in Taos since my heart transplant. EPIC FAIL

From the moment we arrived to when we left the service was remarkable. Everyone we engaged with was friendly and took great pride in their role. The food was presented fabulously and the recommendations for cocktails paired perfectly with the meal. Everything tasted delicious. We especially appreciated the artwork which complemented the Northern New Mexico architecture beautifully.

The Love Apple is a charming restaurant located in a former church, offering seasonal New Mexican cuisine with French influences. The rustic patio provides an intimate dining experience. The restaurant's interior is adorned with art, creating a unique atmosphere for guests to enjoy. The building's historical significance adds to the overall appeal of the dining experience. Additionally, the restaurant emphasizes regional, local, and organic home cooking, with a menu that changes regularly to showcase seasonal produce availability.
Love the ambience of this re-purposed old church! Each dish is thoughtfully crafted, though the excellent starter of grilled endives and leeks with a caper vinaigrette, bacon, parmesan, and a fried egg was the best for me. Have to have the super soft corn muffins as well, and the delicious pinon tart.
Becca F — Google review
I really love this restaurant—I’ve been here before, and the food is consistently excellent. This time, it was especially busy, and our waitress seemed overwhelmed. I probably would’ve ordered another drink, or even coffee and dessert, if she’d had the time—or willingness—to take my order. When I did ask, she was noticeably rude. Later, she returned and said, “Oh, did someone already take your order?” which felt more like a cover-up for her behavior than a genuine mix-up. To her credit, she did offer me a dessert to go, which I appreciated—but the overall interaction still left a bad taste in my mouth. I get that busy shifts can be stressful, but basic courtesy really matters. That said, the food here is still fantastic, and I’ll be back—but I hope the service is better next time.

What a gem! We were visiting Taos and decided to try this restaurant for dinner. Luckily we were able to get a reservation. In the dark, very hard to find. But once you find it, the ambience of the restaurant is beautiful and inviting. Service is attentive and prompt. Food was out standing, especially sea bass. A must try. For appetizers, We had the corn bread, which the restaurant is known for, and grilled mushroom - savory and well flavored. Our second entree was the duck dish with mole. The duck was well cooked and prepared. Overall, we were very pleased with our experience and time at the Love Apple.

If you're in Taos, New Mexico, this should be a stop. Daughter did the research and proclaimed it to be a MUST DO so we did. The setting is almost like a hidden gem. It's tucked back in a gravel parking lot! Once you walk to it, it's very warm and inviting with Whispering curtains and colorful seating. ENTER! and wow very small entry and please make sure you have a reservation (ours was 1 month in advance) because again, it's not likely a walk in will be seated (management please correct me if I'm wrong). Daughter and I are seated and immediately served water with menus. Server arrives literally 10 seconds later. She is so informative and friendly! We order a bottle of red and the famous blue corn muffins with dill/parmesan butter to start. Daughter not enamored of the red wine so I graciously accept the residue (I'm not driving). The blue corn/yellow muffin appetizer is a wide eyed enjoyment. Literally crumbles in our mouths and the 2 butters slathered on top is worthy of an Oscar. Next up: The beet/grapefruit/avocado salad which is so gorgeously presented it should be a fascinator (that's a British hat). It's scrumptious! The sweet, tart and bland meld well! And now the next Oscar! My fried avocado tacos and daughter's encrusted sea bass makes an appearance ONLY to be devoured in nothing flat. The tacos were (first) like a painting on my plate! Green, purple, orange embedded in a soft brown shell. One bite folks and I'm wondering if I've had my last taco. ABSOLUTELY SUBLIME. every taste melts with each other! Nothing overpowers each ingredient. That's what you call perfection! Daughter let me have a bite of her sea bass and I was absolutely blown away by the non fishy taste (do you look for that too?). So just to be completely, 100% overboard YES! DESSERT! We order the flour less chocolate torte and man, the minute it's in front of us I smile because this presentation suggests it's going to be delicious and IT IS. whoa! Chocolate taste is sliding down your throat with a thunder you haven't experienced. It's unmatched and please! Pick up the homemade whipped cream with your fork for a further bounce. Our dinner here was one of the best! Please note: it's cash only and that's cold, hard cash. No cash apps accepted. Well worth it!

Cute little restaurant in Taos. Very unassuming from the outside. Hard to make a reservation if you don’t have a US phone number, as they only confirm via calling you back after you leave them a message. So I called on the day through WhatsApp and luckily someone picked up and booked us a table. I did try messaging on their social media first and explained the limited contact options, but didn’t hear back. We had a salad, corn muffins (which were the main standout for us), a tamale, tacos, and a crumble dessert. Plenty of veggie options. All decent, nothing earth shattering. A good option when in Taos.

This place was recommended by a friend so we called a few weeks in advance for a reservation and received a call back a few days later. The service, food and atmosphere were all perfect. The cocktails were creative twists on classics. It was hard to decide what to order because everything sounded so good. We had the corn muffins, mushrooms, duck, and sea bass and would easily order them all again. We hope to make it back again sometime if we’re visiting Taos.

What a charming, lovely, fine dining experience! This restaurant has taken the fine dining to a different level with their unique combination of fresh and locally sourced ingredients. So satisfying! The decor, the mood, the lighting, and the music made this a perfect location to celebrate a special night. Our waiter patiently assisted us choosing the meals that suits our appetite being vegetarian. We shared Seasonal fruit, local greens, pecans and warm goat cheese salad followed by Love Apple Tacos (vegetarian) and a tasty dessert. I'd LOVE to be back here again one day.

Mexican restaurant
Nestled just a block south of Taos Plaza, La Cueva Cafe is a charming Pueblo-style eatery that offers an authentic taste of Mexico. Owned by a couple from Mexico, this cozy restaurant prides itself on serving up fresh and natural dishes daily. The menu features traditional Mexican delights such as ceviche Mexicano, enchiladas de camaron enchipotladas, chicken mole enchiladas, and flavorful fajitas.
Had chicken mole, and veggie enchiladas. Really fast service getting seated, getting drinks, and chips salsa and guacamole. The prices were better (lower) than some other places. The chicken mole was mild not anything strong or otherwise objectionable. The server was happy and pleasant. Sat outside. Some dog was barking at another table. People don't train their dogs and then bring them into close proximity to strangers. Veggie enchiladas tasted fine. Had rice and beans on both plates. Very predictable and was what we wanted. There is one NA beer, corona. Some vehicle noise since the street is a bypass for the nearby busy intersection.

The actual restaurant itself is small but they have a cute outdoor area with tons of umbrellas. If you are someone who gets cold was, definitely bring a sweater. As for parking, there is public parking at the Municipal lot a block down. It is relatively inexpensive ($2.25/hr) and convenient to the restaurant. Now let's talk about the food.... I ordered the sampler combo with chicken enchilada, chili relleno and beef taco with green chili. My husband ordered the chili relleno also with the green chili. Wow! Sooo good! Our favorite was the green hatch relleno chili. The rice and beans were also a great as sides. Not saying the beef taco and chicken enchiladas weren't good as they very much were. It was just that the relleno was just sooo good! Our waitress was also great! Just be aware, they only have one restroom for both men and women so you may have to wait if it is busy. Overall, we were so glad we stopped by this little restaurant and had an amazing meal.

Now that I’ve traveled around New Mexico, I realize just how good La Cueva is. Well versed in Gluten-free and helpful ad our daughter had celiac. No nonsense service. They know what they are doing and happy answer questions. I have not had chile relleno in years and this did not disappoint. My 15 year old did not believe me that it is good, but loved the chile relleno here. Very flavorful. My son loved his chimichanga and our 22 year old had the huitlacoche (corn fungus) enchiladas. Great flavor. We had huitlacoche while living in Mexico and were converted. Lots of cheese! Good but heavy. There is a lot of cheese on the food in NM. I love it but can’t eat this way everyday. 😂 Indoor and outdoor seating.

Recommended by the owner of the Inn we were staying at, and I’m so happy we went. My brother, myself, and our mom who’s in her 80’s dined in. Excellent hatch chile rellenos, chipotle shrimp enchiladas, and fish tacos were had. The salsa and guacamole were also excellent. Really really loved the salsa. Wish I could bring it home. Service was fantastic. All around great place!

Visited La Cueva Cafe for the first time. It was recommend to us. Parking is not easy for the location. We had to drive around to find one. They have very little inside seating so if you don't mind sitting outside then you're good to go. My wife is a Mexican food lover tho she's not Mexican. We ordered chips with guacamole and that was good. We decided to share a combo fajita plate, chicken and steak. Order came out and for some reason the fajita iron skillet wasn't sizzling. It usually sizzles but not this time. The meat was slightly warm. Not to my wife's liking. That's not good news. Rarely if ever has my wife complained about her Mexican dish. Right away she looked at me and said, "the steak is tuff and the chicken is dry." I was stunned! She continued, "I don't care for it." Oh crap! She took the fajita meats out of her tortilla and added the grill veggies instead and ate that instead. Now I have to admit the steak was tuff. Difficult to bite through it for sure. On top of that, the rice given to us was a half cup size. I will never understand why at most Mexican restaurants they give you such a small amount of rice. The beans were served sauce less. Not a good presentation worthy of a 5🌟 rating. A little disappointed.

La Cueva is the cutest little restaurant in Taos. If you are shopping in the plaza and are looking for an authentic New Mexican meal, be sure to add this to your list! My boyfriend and I ate inside of the very small dining room. Which was cozy and perfectly heated as we were there on a chillier day. We ordered the fajitas and then for desert my boyfriend had the mango cream chimichanga. I have a dairy allergy and they removed all the dairy without issues. It was all delicious! The waitstaff is wonderful and attentive- we will definitely be coming back! *There is a service charge for credit cards, so bring cash or a debit card*

Welcoming itty bitty restaurant packed with flavor and well plated dishes. Enjoyed the recommended seafood enchiladas in a chipotle cream- sounds odd but trust, the chicken fajitas with mole and chicken mole enchiladas to go- nicely packed. We arrived an hour before closing and still had time to eat at a relaxed pace with time to spare! Outdoor patio seating available, indoor has 4-5 tables. Highly recommend. Cash forward or 4% credit card fee.

Super cute tiny place with a nice atmosphere. The food was delicious and the people there were so nice. My husband had the off menu special and I had a vegan option. They were super helpful about tweaking the menu to give me lots of vegan options and they were very knowledgeable. They rice and beans are vegan as they come but they happily made other substitutions for me. For example, they told me the green chili sauce is made with chicken stock and so they specially grilled jalapeños for me. Delicious. They were really kind and so welcoming. In Taos for a couple days and decided to grab a bite to eat. We ordered ciders & salad & pizza. It was delicious. Glad we stopped in. Our server was a great guy too!

The beer is actually quite good. I really like their pizza too and I don't eat much pizza. Being able to get just a 6-in personal size was perfect. Nice door patio with shade and sun

First time here. Ordered the quartz pizza, had flights of beer and house salad. Covered three people very well. We added green chiles to the pizza and it was awesome. Even took a crowler of the green chile beer home. The crowler lid wasn’t fully seated, so we had to drink it soon after. A wonderful place!

Love the beer selections and pizza. I recommend the “Smoky Quartz” and “Sausage “ pizza. They are not tomato based but both have unique sauces. The servers are super friendly too.

The beer, wood fired pizza, and service exceeded our expectations. We dropped in on a busy Saturday evening and had a great time watching multiple football games on tv and enjoying the vibes. The pizza was exceptional and we were so glad we stopped to visit while in Taos!

We went here on our first night in Taos for dinner. The pizza is really good and the house salad, full, we split was more than ample in size. We don’t drink beer, but love ciders. We didn’t find one we liked but they have them. We wound up with a nice bottle of rosé. Service was good. All in all very nice place. Notes: very dog friendly patio but very noisy as it’s on the corner of a super busy street. Inside was nice but we had our dog.

The Cesar and beet salad were ok, lacking a bit in flavor. The drinks were great, and the queso was good! They were understaffed and it took a while to get our drinks. Not disappointed!

Some of the best pizza to this day. The quartz or The margarita pizza were so good. On our trip we visited this place a few times just to enjoy it. Anytime we are eating at other places, we compare it to this place. Beers were great too.

Discover the vibrant and lively atmosphere of Doc Martin's at the Historic Taos Inn, a historic home with brightly colored walls and live jazz music. Named after Dr. Thomas Paul "Doc" Martin, the county's first physician, this popular spot offers innovative regional cuisine and a hip vibe that attracts both locals and visitors. The restaurant prides itself on hospitality, reflecting the kindhearted nature of its namesake.
The place was old, walls thick with history, a charm that clung like damp air. Doc Martins hummed, alive, romantic in its weathered way. The server, her eyes green as cut jade, moved with a grace that stirred the blood. She was charming, upbeat, her smile a spark in the dim light. Service was sharp, clean, like a well-honed knife. The wild-caught salmon came, pink and firm, tasting of cold rivers and truth. It was remarkable, each bite a quiet victory. The room whispered of times past, of lovers and fighters, and it held us close. Five stars for the food, the woman, the walls. All of it true.

Tl;dr-Honestly, this is a great place to visit while in Taos. As long as you don't get our server. Also, make a reservation and don't roll the dice on a table. Highly recommended. So why 4*? Our particular server was just not great. She seemed to be actively trying not to work. You know when that changed? When it became apparent that my family of four was spending more than 50 / person. That's too sad. The tables adjacent to us had much better service than we did. They were constantly checking on their tables and getting their drinks. The drinks we got (by the time we got them) were watered down. We watched the bartender, who btw was amazing, pour them and then they sat for about 7 min while our server was nowhere to be found. We ordered soup/stew. She brought it to us without a spoon. After waiting 4 minutes I asked a bus boy for a spoon because she dropped it off and then she went AWOL. Look, as my wife said, maybe she had a bad day. Maybe her personal life is rough right now As a human being I'm sensitive to that. As a patron, I'm annoyed because I have to separate personal and business life. I do it out of necessity. Because I'm expected to i unfortunately expect others to also do it. Outside of our server, everything about this place was great. Would go back and just request a different server. I saw our neighbors experience and know it was better than ours

I had the opportunity to dine with you last night (Friday 4/25) and wanted to share some feedback from my experience. I ordered a glass of the Vivac Cab, the wine oxidized as if it had been open for a few days, the second glass I ordered was the Bonanza Cab which my server said she had to open fresh bottle and it was fine. The presentation on the appetizer was fantastic, unfortunately the flavor was less than expected. the Enchilada sauce had almost no flavor. I ordered the adovada plate, I mean I'm visiting New Mexico why not... this entire dish was a mis... the rice and beans had zero flavor... Adovada is supposed to be cooked in red chilis... the color of the meat was brown... no hint of chilis and was very salty. Definitely not a good representation. Service was ok, but I felt like my server spent all her time at her other tables and only stopped by if I gave her a look to swing by... also I'm pretty sure you should clear the entree plate before dropping the check.. I had to move the plate to sign my check. I was in Food & Beverage for 25years, your facility has charm and character... it would have been a home run if the food & bev stood up to the

The trout appetizer was the only good thing here. The food was over an hour wait for dinner and subpar and over priced. The server seemed to forget about us and we had to go to the bartender to tell her to get our check. I would come back for the margaritas and appetizer only.

Very disappointing experience at the Taos Inn tonight. I stopped by on a long road trip hoping for a fresh and wholesome meal and I definitely came to the wrong place. My waiter was sweet, but the best thing I ordered was the blood orange cider. Of the trio of dips I ordered to start, the queso was the only one that was edible, (though without much flavor.) the salsa was too spicy for me and the guac was tangy in an unsavory way. The beet salad was mostly a pile of raw kale, with a few diced beets and goat cheese crumbles, some very large pieces of red onion, and a side of (probably store-bought) vinaigrette. The salmon was undercooked and served on a plate of very plain brown rice with a few carrots (the carrots were also edible.) I sent all of this back, and the manager came by to apologize and offer me something different. When I asked for anything vegetable-forward, he offered me "enchiladas with calabacitas," so I decided to have another cider and give them a second chance, but the enchilada plate that came was swimming in sauce and the zucchini were sparse. In the end, I paid for my ciders and decided to eat my car snacks for dinner and keep driving....

Doc Martin’s, at the Taos Inn, is just as quirky as Taos itself. The interior is not quite as upscale as a few other eateries in the area, but it’s set within the original adobe house and celebrates local flavors beyond traditional chile, including choke cherry and fresh trout. Service is good, and the food is fresh and tasty, albeit a bit overpriced.

For brunch we had the sampler with the blue pancakes which were great, and the huevos rancheros hit the spot.Service was great and chef stopped by to check how everything was. Being a historical site, can't beat the atmosphere.

I'm so glad I followed the advice of my friends and came here - yummy margaritas and food and GREAT service, the kind that makes you want to come back and when you do you'll feel welcomed . Thank you, Holly ! Now I know why my friends always come here - I want to come back when it's cold enough to light that fire in the lobby but when it's warm the outside is lovely
