Nestled along Puerto Rico's stunning north coast, Mar Chiquita Beach is a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of natural beauty and adventure. This horseshoe-shaped cove, located about 40 kilometers west of San Juan in the charming town of Manati, is almost entirely encircled by rugged rocks. While swimming can be tricky due to strong currents and underwater cliffs, the breathtaking views make it worth the visit.
Beautiful smaller beach. Lots of free parking. Rough currents and slippery rocks. Good if you can swim confidently if not it’s still a beautiful place to lay in the sand. The circular rock pool is breathtaking to see in person!!! Locals have snacks and drinks you can purchase with cash. There was a business renting chairs and umbrellas but they were packing up to leave when we arrived (4pm)

Absolutely a beautiful landlocked beach. The waves do crash over the lock and create a little wave pool. Crystal clear waters and some sea life living in the lock. No, there are no sharks so bring some goggles and a snorkel and enjoy the little fish.

Great are with lots of rocks to hike if you are experienced enough. The views are incredible and the water is clear. The have vendors selling whatever you need and nice little umbrella areas. A lot of parking.

This beach was so beautiful, so relaxing. We went on a Friday afternoon, we got there around 1:30pm the sun was pretty high and the sand was hot, we wanted to rent beach chairs and an umbrella for shade and the gentleman there greeted us and said that’s what he had to offer so we paid about $30 for that. The waves were high but we stayed on the edge. It was such a relaxing, enjoyable beach to visit. I recommend this beach to anyone trying to take in the beauty of Puerto Rico. We ended up leaving by 6pm due to us being scared to drive in the narrow roads on the way there and back. But def recommend also there is a good truck selling drinks and Alcapurriaa which were so good! 10/10 recommend!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely stunning — our favorite beach in Puerto Rico! We visited Mar Chiquita Beach in Tierras Nuevas Poniente, Manatí to celebrate Kim’s birthday, and it was absolutely perfect. The drive from our VRBO in the Carolina area took about 45 minutes and was completely worth it. The winding road and the view as we crested the last hill down toward the beach were breathtaking. Parking is free (though sandy), and even on a Tuesday in the off-season, a few food trucks were open. We brought our own food and drinks and immediately wished we’d brought snorkel gear — the moment we saw the crystal-clear water inside the seashell-shaped bay, we knew it was a snorkeler’s paradise. The bay is surrounded by towering, jagged reef cliffs, creating a sheltered, magical lagoon. We found a shaded spot on the far side where we could easily access the water but still enjoy both sun and shade. The water was refreshingly cool, not too warm, and the waves were big but gentle. Inside the reef, we spotted lots of colorful fish, sea urchins, and chitons, plus crabs and anoles along the rocks. We even watched a hawk swoop down to catch a fish — a total National Geographic moment! My drone footage from here was incredible — the turquoise water against the golden cliffs is unreal. Even as the day got busier, we never felt crowded. One couple’s barking dog broke the peace for a bit, but they didn’t stay long. Unfortunately, we did notice some litter despite plenty of trash bins, which is disappointing. Before we left, we explored the cool caves near the exit — a must-see if you visit! We even had to tie up our cooler after a friendly stray dog tried to snag a snack (probably feeding puppies nearby). This beach is safe for swimming — no rip currents, calm surf inside the cove, and incredible scenery. It was our favorite beach of the entire trip, hands down. If you’re visiting Puerto Rico, make a day of it here — you won’t regret it. 🌊🐠☀️

Mar Chiquita Beach is a local gem of PR🇵🇷 ⛱️ , bring sun screen, towel, and some water, and spend the day relaxing on the beach. FYI, there are local vendors selling piña coladas, seafood cocktails and other food items so you won’t go hungry 😊

Absolutely a beautiful landlocked beach. The waves do crash over the lock and create a little wave pool. Crystal clear waters and some sea life living in the lock. No, there are no sharks so bring some goggles and a snorkel and enjoy the little fish. Food trucks on site, souvenirs and you can even get a massage if you catch the young lady there Thursday to Sunday. 1 down side, no public restrooms. The portapotties are owned by the guys who rent the beach umbrellas and chairs so you have to pay to use them.

Crystal clear water - JUST BE CAREFUL WITH THE ROCKS ! They are slippery and if current is strong you will scrape your knees on them. They have some food trucks so bring cash.

Hacienda Buena Vista - Para la Naturaleza

Mentioned on
7 lists
Sights & Landmarks
Historical landmark
Hacienda Buena Vista, a 19th-century coffee plantation turned living museum, offers tours of its scenic grounds and restored machinery. Visitors can explore the property's various buildings and learn about Puerto Rico's history as a coffee exporter. The tour provides in-depth insights for history enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. English and Spanish tours are available, with comfortable footwear recommended for walking on different surfaces.
We went with family visiting from NJ. The place is very relaxing and full of history. They gave us a tour explaining every detail of the Hacienda. I recommend it and you must arrive no later than 1:30pm to be able to visit the last tour. The tour is in English. I recommend this place definitely.
Kayin R — Google review
The tour is a walk through time. Learn the history of coffee production in Ponce. Definitely recommend taking a tour when in Ponce.
Debra B — Google review
Destination trip fir coffee lovers ! Beautiful Hacienda where you can learn about the coffee history in Puerto Rico! I recommend the hacienda tour to learn about coffee tree farming and how the coffee is processed . Tour ends with coffee testing and the tour guides are very entertaining . The coffee is exquisite with amazing aroma. This was a bucket list item for me and really enjoyed the experience .
Tony R — Google review
Beautiful hacienda in the mountains in ponce. Historic site, was a coffe plantation. Friendly staff. Go visit for an eco tourism experiance like no other.
Ezequiel R — Google review
Hacienda Buena Vista has great, friendly staff and the grounds were beautifully kept when we visited. The tour was very informative for history buffs and the casual visitors alike. The price for the tour is quite reasonable. Be aware: there are English and Spanish tours available but English tours run only once a day, twice for Spanish. Bring comfortable shoes with grip since you'll be walking on various surfaces from slick concrete to loose gravel. Also, bring a rain poncho or umbrella just un case. Unless rain is very strong or there's lightning in the area, the tour WILL go on as scheduled!! It just adds to the experience, in my opinion. A very recommended experience overall!!
Angel C — Google review
This tour was the highlight of our entire trip! The property and surrounding areas were so beautiful and had such a rich history. Our tour guide Julio was extremely knowledgeable about the people and processes involved in the long history of the hacienda’s agriculture processing, among other things. We will remember our experience for a long time, definitely recommend!!
Jennifer L — Google review
What a great tour! We learned so much. Our tour guide, Ana, was so full of knowledge it was unbelievable. The only criticism I have is that I wish the would do the tours in English and Spanish.

Reserva Natural Cueva del Indio

Mentioned on
12 lists
Nature & Parks
Historical landmark
Reserva Natural Cueva del Indio is a prehistoric rock art site located in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico. Managed by the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, it contains the largest number of cave drawings in the region, dating back to the Late Ceramic Period from 1200 to 1500 A.D.
No words can describe how beautiful it is. It’s $10 to enter (parking) and then your free to hike the mangroves to the three different locations to take videos and pictures. The cave entry itself is open if you are good at using small crevices to climb (or have support). Small narrow entry that opens up into the caves. Sneakers or water shoes recommended. I brought my towel, bathing suit and goggles to see the fish and take a swim. Be mindful, we saw a couple of bats in the cave but harmless!

Paradise on earth. This is such a beautiful place one hour from Puerto Rico. If you have time, definitely make a stop here. You should be able to spend a couple of hours observing the breathtaking views and taking exceptional pictures. You’re debating whether we should go there or not, but luckily, we decided to go and will definitely go again if we get a chance
TJ S — Google review
This is am important place for the world. It preserves the history of our ancestors. Unfortunately there are some very dishonest people who put up extensive barriers and barricades and tell people they have to pay $10 per person to see what is a public right. It's gross and I didn't stand for it. I walked right by and saw all this splendor for free. They screamed at me but I kept smiling and walking right on by. I didn't park in the parking lot. I didn't use any of their services; I just saw what I have a right and a duty to see. It was beautiful and inspiring. I highly recommend a visit but be prepared to be unjustly charged by a scoundrel, or just smile and observe and prepare for a very hostile response.
Irene S — Google review
Very nice reserve close to Arecibo. Definitely worth your time. Went on a Sunday late afternoon. Few things rocking this down from a 5 star rating: area around it a bit sketchy, costs $10 a person to enter (not big money, but the principle of paying for something that seems like it should be free), the attendant a little rude, they close at 5 PM, and I have seen lots similar lanscapes in my travels. Really good; just not great. Do suggest wearing sneakers as the rocks are fairly jagged. The arches area the best part of it. And the beach close to the entrance has nice tide pools. Spent about 45 mins, which seems like a reasonable amount of time for just about all. And not really much hiking involved, and the inclines can be handled by older crowd as I saw several such individuals at the top. Good breezes and not too hot on a early-ish November day.
Jimmer W — Google review
There was a $10 entrance fee per person but it was totally worth it! It was beautiful, and a lot to explore and see on the rocks. I definitely recommend sneakers. But there's lots of neat photo ops throughout the place.
David N — Google review
Must-visit place while you’re in PR! The entrance fee (including parking) is $10. The view is amazing from every side, both inside and outside of the cave. Unfortunately, I couldn’t explore deeper inside as a 5’2” woman with short arms and legs lol — I freaked out because the rocks were so slippery, and I couldn’t reach side to side. But you can still easily see traces of the Taíno people!
Youn B — Google review
I see a lot of people complaining about paying $10 pp to park, but it’s not a parking fee - it’s the entrance fee, and believe me, it’s worth it. Before you enter, there’s a guy who will tell you everything about the place and show you different routes (where to go first, what to do after, what not to do etc). Unfortunately, the petroglyphs are barely visible on the surface of the cave. If you wanna see them, you have to go down through a small hole. But beware - it’s not for everyone! When we were there, many people tried, but nobody managed to do it. You have to be really fit because not only do you have to lift yourself up and climb into that little hole, but you also have to fit through it. For me, it was a definite NO. However, don’t get discouraged, because this place has sooo much to offer, and the landscape is so beautiful that you really don’t need to go through that tiny hole to enjoy your experience here. There are also many cool blue lizards running around in this area.
M — Google review
Gorgeous views!! Make sure to wear gym shoes, it is rocky and you do not want to hurt your feet. There is a parking lot but it is on someone's property so they charge $10 per person. I say it's worth it for thr views.

Gilligans Island

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Gilligan's Island, also known as Cayo Aurora, is a charming and uninhabited mangrove island located just off the coast of Guanica in Puerto Rico. Accessible by a short ferry ride or kayak trip, this hidden gem offers a tranquil escape for visitors.
We kayaked here from Caña Gorda Beach, and it was an unforgettable experience! The journey took about 45 minutes paddling against the current and only 25 minutes on the way back with the current. The island has changed a lot since it partially sank in 2020, but it’s still a beautiful spot to explore. Snorkeling inside the island is a unique and serene experience. Since it’s uninhabited, please remember to pack out all your trash to help preserve its beauty. The ferry no longer runs here, but from what I’ve learned, you can arrange a trip through the scuba center at the nearby hotel. Highly recommend this adventure for nature and water lovers!
Richard — Google review
There absolutely has been a boat that to take you here despite what I just read in someone else's review. Google said the restaurant is temporarily closed now, we bought tickets from the San jacinta restaurant and purchased food from there that later was taken to Gilligan's Island and dropped off for us at lunch by boat. You buy the ticket, they'll take you over to Gilligan's Island on a boat and leave you for several hours. I don't remember how many hours maybe it was 4 or 5. There may be a lot of people there but it was a very large area and you won't get too close to anyone else. It's a mangrove Island so there's lots of little trails and shallow water to wade around in. The water was extremely clear and we snorkeled as there was a lot of small fish, hermit crabs and a couple of jelly fish.
L J — Google review
THERE IS NO BOAT TO TAKE YOU THERE. ISLAND IS OPEN AND YOU CAN GO THERE IF YOU CAN FIND A WAY. can rent jet ski at beach and do guided tour and they will take you there. Was there today 7-7-24
KASH K — Google review
Snorkeled around the island and got to see lots of cool fish! Just be careful of sea urchins, wear water shoes :)
Liza S — Google review
Truly love this place... Arrive early & bring your own picnic or take the boat they provide food at the.... dock bace. They have place to r rinse off the sand and changing rooms.
Michele V — Google review
The island is beautiful. The staff is slow and rude . Waiting time till u get in to the boat was over 2 hours. At the heat with the kids. The could've have 2 boats or 3 at least and the let you wait like 30 minutes to load the food for delivery at the same boat. So un professional and unorganized and its not free so its definitely ur paying for realy bad service.
Ivan A — Google review
Sadly the island is closed. Only the restaurant is open. Was lucky to have had the opportunity to visit this island in 2019. Hopefully they will open again.
Jessica P — Google review
I want to give this more stars, but it just wasn’t exactly what we expected from the reviews and other information we saw prior. The ferry out does not run as frequently as we thought (only once per hour). Once dropped off, there were limited areas you could explore without a kayak. It might be possible to snorkel/swim around more of the outside but I was nervous to do that without any idea of the depth. I reached areas quickly where I could not touch on tiptoe (I am 5’6”). I would strongly recommend bug spray here — my husband got eaten up badly. I did see a few small fish and some iguanas, but not much else. Many paths appear to still need cleaned up post Maria. We’re glad we checked it out, but it is not a must see.

Arecibo Observatory

Observatory
Museums
Arecibo Observatory, located in Puerto Rico, is a renowned research center featuring a massive 1,000-foot-wide radio telescope. Referred to as El Radar by locals and recognized for its appearance in the James Bond film Goldeneye, this observatory offers visitors the chance to explore interactive exhibits and learn about astronomy and the operation of the radio telescope.
The access is closed to visitors (was here 9 December 2024). There is guarded gate. The guard said the Visitor Center has been closed for about 2 years. The best you can do is park a few hundred yards before the gate at a turn and take these pictures of the remaining structure.
Julien V — Google review
I had the privilege of visiting the center the day when they first reopened it to the public after the collapse, years ago. Regretfully, it looks like its closed again but the experience I did have was pleasant. Cool presentations, very knowledgeable and passionate staff. Frankly, seeing that massive dish is staggering. Truly a tragic fate.
Steven G — Google review
Really wished the museum/exhibits area was open. We came in with the hope to see some remains of the radio telescope. Like rightly pointed by many here, the observatory area is closed and the best you get is a picture of the remaining dish and two pillars from far far away. Unless you enjoy the ride to the observatory through winding small roads along the countryside, there is really nothing to see here right now.
Maitri H — Google review
It's still closed, but it's a cool stop for those who know its significance.
Chris H — Google review
At about 1 and 1/2 hrs from San Juan, and going up steep and narrow roads, the observatory is open and welcomes everyone to visit. The visitor center is open and you can see the dish. It is a sad view if you love science, but it's also a must as it puts things into perspective. Also it's so massive, and no picture will ever do the honors to it. A must if you visit PR and love science.
Elvis Q — Google review
While it will never be repaired again it was still incredible to see the once largest ground satellite in person. It is NOT stroller friendly as you can see with the stairs but we were fortunate the observatory staff gave us a lift up the hill. Very knowledgeable staff on all things about the satellite.
Zachary T — Google review
Awesome place to visit even though the big radio telescope is damaged. The little museum inside is small but we'll maintained and the staff is very friendly. There is a very nice visitor presentation about the site's history in the auditorium.
Alberto G — Google review
I was surprised to see the visitor center open and in great shape. Yes, the big scope is broken and mostly removed, but there is still science going on there. Honestly, the story of the place is more interesting now more than when it was whole. Definitely worth the visit, and the next time you watch Goldeneye, you can say "been there".

Batey Adventures offers three different tours that all feature ziplining on seven lines, a trek across a 150-ft long suspension bridge over the Tanama river, and a hike through the forest. Visitors rave about the beauty of the mountains, river, caves, and suspension bridge during the tour. The kayak ride through the caves is highlighted as an amazing experience not offered by other tour companies.
Denise and Edwin were awesome. We learned a lot about the plants as well as the history of the area. The hike down to the river was really beautiful and the cave and tubing was really cool. We had a great time. Wear water shoes, swimsuit and workout clothes. You’ll have a great time. Eat at the restaurant next door afterwards. It was so delicious! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Absolutely incredible tour- we are so glad we rented a car and made the 1.5hr trip from San Juan! Edwin was so knowledgeable so caring, a few people were very inexperienced kayakers and they had no problem- I’d recommend this excursion to anyone and everyone. There was some physical aspects but nothing too intense! Do a Batey Cave Kayak Tour when you are in Puerto Rico and you get a partial spa day as well!
Cydney F — Google review
Oh my goodness, this was my favorite adventure of our Puerto Rico trip and should be a must-do on everyone’s list! Beautiful caves and lush surroundings in a place that feels untouched and serene. Our guide, Edwin, who grew up exploring the area and playing in the Tanama River, was so friendly and knowledgeable. He even stopped and made us face masks out of volcanic clay. I was not expecting a spa treatment in the middle! Lol The tour was just the right amount of activity to make us feel like we worked for the experience but not so much that we were exhausted after.
Kristen C — Google review
Our group had such a good time with our guide Pito. He was professional and hands down the most down to earth and friendly guide I have ever had an experience with. He was knowledgeable about the local flora, fauna, and history, and he shared his insights in a way that was both engaging and entertaining. He really made the experience one we will never forget!! Thank you Pito!!

We had an incredible time on this excursion. It was perhaps one of the best excursions we’ve ever been on. Edwin was a fantastic guide. The cave tubing was awesome, also the swimming and cliff jump afterwards was really cool. We really loved it and would recommend it.

What an amazing trip. Great for tweens, teens and families. Edwin was a great guide. And Matias cafe was delish. They sell out everyday before 2 it’s so good.

I was incredibly impressed with the information and tour I was given at Batey Adventures. Edgar is an amazing, kind and knowledgeable guide. Be sure to know that if you're not mildly fit, it's a lot of physical activity and you walk down and up an actual mountain. Beautiful experience and place. Guaranteed. 5 stars.
Jessica D — Google review
Our reservation was cancelled due to heavy rain prior to our tour; they called us the day before to notified and gave us the option to either reschedule or full refund. We rescheduled end enjoyed the River Cave Kayaking Tour with Edwin as the tour guide. He did an awesome job with my 8 yo girl, who was very nervous about kayaking, going into a cave and much more. Edwin welcomed us, oriented us about what to expect, and kept us informed from start to finish. Also, he recommended a great place to eat like a local, and that was also great food.

Nestled in the heart of Karst Country, Parque Nacional de las Cavernas del Río Camuy is a captivating family destination in Puerto Rico. Visitors embark on a short jungle hike followed by an enjoyable trolley ride to reach this mesmerizing underground world.
A nicely paved and well maintain park to see natural caves. We were caught in heavy rain, which made the visit more adventurous. Our guide got us a ride to the entrance and back up because it was too slippery to hike. It was fun to see bats and the tunnels down there.
Sueki L — Google review
The tour guy was knowledgeable! I suggest you wear some good slip resistant shoes since the walk ways are damp or wet! Also bring some type of gloves if you choose to hold onto the rails going down the caves and back up due to bat droppings that fall on the rails! If you have any knee issues I wouldn’t recommend this tour!
Felix — Google review
Absolutely worth the trip, the cave was stunning and the walk to get there was beautiful. That said, be prepared to walk to the cave, it's about a ten/fifteen min trek down since the grounds no longer have trams. They do however have carts for the disabled/children. Bring a little flashlight but be cognizant of those around you, it's dark and slippery, lights can be blinding. And please, be respectful. When the guide says "don't touch", don't. There's a reason these rules are in place. Keep these places as pristine as we can. People in my group didn't and it's tourists like them that will ruin things for everyone else. Enjoy, tip your guides!

I was told I had to make a reservation, but when I try to make a reservation the park told me that's only for 15 people or more. I do recommend getting there early when they open. Be prepared to walk and if you get there early then the heat and sun shouldn't be to bad. Our tour guide was great. She was funny and very informational. You can tell she likes what she does. Bring water and wear sneakers. The kids had a great time. This is a must to do.

We had a great time. Be early, we went before 11 am and we got a spot for 1pm. Our tour guide was excellent. Wear comfortable cloth and shoes. It's very slippery (inside the caves) and at the time we went was very hot and humid. You have to walk a lot to go down to the caves and back. Although they have transportation for people with any health condition or small kids. The caves are beautiful. You need a flashlight, we forgot that and no one told us to have or buy one. You can pay cash or with debit or credit card. Wish, more areas were opened. The tour guide explained to us that only a 15% is open due to shortage in employees due to the government economic issues. Overall is a great experience with nature. Our kids love it!

This is a nature's marvel and a must visit caverns system in Camuy Puerto Rico. The trip to the park is absolutely worthwhile. However, some disorganization was observed as the tours were running late. We arrived at 9:00 am but could not start the tour until past 11. One possible explanation is that it rained the day before and the tours were cancelled. The long walk to the caverns was worthy to be able to experience the majesty of this natural formation. The guided tour was in English and Spanish and very well explained. I highly recommend this experience but you must be there very early as entrance to the park is not guaranteed due to rain or number of visitors.

We started with an early morning tour that took about 2 hours. We were given hard hats and audio to listen to during our tour. We were with a large group, over 50 people. We rarely could hear our tour guide, which is why I am rating 4 stars. We were also left behind frequently because she would stop and speak to the front half of the group that could fit, then they would move forward and the rest of the group could see what she was looking at and take photos. It was still overall an enjoyable experience and a beautiful cave. I had some difficulties as the cave has 100% humidity. Also the trail to the cave is downhill about a 25-30 minute walk. The heat index with humidity was 110, so walking up hill in the heat was rough for me personally with asthma. I ended up sick afterward.

This attraction has seen better days. It needs to be revamped and allotted some resources to make it what it once was. First the good; EXCELLENT guides. These people know all about the flora and fauna and wildlife along the path down to the cave, as well as the history of the local area and wildlife around. They're polite, mostly bilingual, and extremely friendly. Here's where they need to devote some resources to: This used to be a ride down in a trolley to the cave. It's now a walking tour, which is easy on the way down, but the way up, not so much. It's evident as you walk along the paved path and down into the cave system that it's a bit run down and needs some improvements. Additionally, there used to be a whole other cave you were taken to, but this is no longer the case. As I understand it, this is because of the damage from one of the hurricanes that ravaged the island years ago. It's still a fascinating tour and the scenery is incredible, but it really has HUGE potential to be much better, and I really hope to see it improve.

Visitors can enjoy swimming in the natural pools, with the option to use rope swings and jump off waterfalls into deep pools below.
We loved everything about this sweet spot! They had a food area too where you could purchase food and drinks. The drive up is beautiful but a bit crazy weaving through the mountain. We were there in early August and the water was a bit cold but felt great once you were in it. Definitely a place to visit again! Only $10 for parking.

Good experience, Great waterfall and to to swim. Entrance a little rocky, Parking wasn't bad, Restaurant food smell good but if you like cats there alot around table, need more cleanness around area. Stairs going down to waterfall is very steep. Overall nice place to go.

Absolutely breathtaking! One of my highlights from Puerto Rico. There are two waterfalls, make sure to visit both because they are both stunning. The path is very easy, no need for special trekking shoes. Also, there is a restaurant on-site that’s surprisingly cheap.
M — Google review
We were lucky to catch it pretty empty before peak season in the beginning of November. I took my best friend here since it's an easy waterfall to get to. The parking goes towards your tab at the restaurant. The beef empanada was pretty tasty. Surprisingly some of the best I've had on the island. I'd return again to show my friends and family. Simply stunning and swinging into the waterfall pool is a lot of fun for the adventurous souls.

For just a $10 parking fee you get to go do a beautiful hike to two amazing waterfalls! The hike itself is very easy and fully paved and you can swim in both waterfalls! Lots of lizards, crayfish and I think shrimp? If you’re in the area, you definitely should come down here! The only downside is that the bathrooms are pretty gross, other than that it’s a great experience!💧🦐🌴

This waterfall was so beautiful and so relaxing. It was a short walk and it was really slippery. I had some shoes on that had some grip but I did manage to slip once. So be careful, but it is 100% worth it.

So much fun! Was empty but we went during slow season which starts in October. The drive is a bit sketchy especially if you’re not used to the routes in PR. $10 parking fee

Drive up and park, pay $10 to park, walk the trails not too long, steps along the way, could be slippery when wet on the trails. At the waterfall the rocks are slippery, seen a few people fall while there. Fun place to go. Had lunch and a drink.

Playa Sucia, also known as La Playuela, is a stunning and isolated sandy beach located in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. It offers breathtaking views of a lighthouse perched atop red limestone cliffs. This all-day adventure destination is surrounded by natural attractions such as hiking trails, salt flats, bird sanctuary, and offshore fishing. The beach itself boasts white sand and clear turquoise waters perfect for swimming.
A beautiful beach located just beyond the salt flats. It is a bit difficult to get there because it is about a mile walk from the parking area. But it is worth the trek. The beach is rustic but it is super clean and the waves are very calm. We loved it!
Andres A — Google review
Unfortunately, during our trip, the beach was unusablely covered in seaweed. The walk wouldn’t have been bad if we got to cool off in the water at the beach, but walking 50 minutes straight in the heat for nothing was rough. The salt flats were cool but not worth the drive. I can see it would be very beautiful if not for the seaweed.
Mackenzie J — Google review
Cars are not allowed after a gate so you have to walk a lot to get to the lighthouse and somehow to the beach which we didn't go because it was so hot and after getting to the lighthouse we were exhausted. Plus you got to think of the walk back to your vehicle. It is very disappointing that there are parking signs and you have to walk all that. Why are cats not allowed inside??? The entrance to the beach before parking is nasty, I see why is called playa sucia. Now, we didn't get to the actual beach but someone said it was full of seaweed so maybe if you come another time, you could see the "beautiful" beach.
Giselle T — Google review
Unfortunately we couldn’t enjoy the beach as it was full of algae. The walk there was pretty nice if you like nature and don’t mind the heat. It’s about 30 min walk from the parking. You can see many birds like pelicans and smaller animals like hermit crabs. It’s a bird paradise, we just don’t know enough birds. There are some smaller cliffs just before getting to the beach. And an old light house that is pretty to look at. If you are adventurous you’ll probably like it. Don’t forget a sun hat, water and sunglasses.
Mir T — Google review
Long hike but worth it! We went early and there weren't many people yet so we got a nice shady place in the trees. On our way out lots of people heading in. Parking sucks but seriously so beautiful. Picked up some trash on our way out. Remember to keep it clean. Made some hermit crab friends! Bring a sun shirt and hat for the walk!
Kevin C — Google review
Stunning place to come visit. A must of on this side of the island. The water is calm, clear, and perfect temperature! Plenty of hiking trails up to the lighthouse as well.
Tanya S — Google review
Plan a short walk into a beautiful beach. Lots of seaweed on about 50% of the beach. But the water color is beautiful. Took a hike up the cliffs, saw a sea turtle and fish. Beautiful vista views, turquoise waters, very calm water for kids with a gentle slope. No waves! Lots of shade trees up on the beach. Hermit crabs were fun to see and lots of birds. This is a nature.preserve so don't expect any amenities. Pack in and pack out trash. Keep it clean!
Kimberly K — Google review
Beautiful beach! Very warm water but it gets deep very close to shore, and it’s full of rocks in that part. Very big beach with lots of shade. Gets very busy around noon so it’s better to go early, parking is on the road and can be very hard to find a spot. After parking is a 20 minute walk to the beach. Very with it! Wouldn’t recommend for swimming a lot.

Crash Boat Beach, located on the northwestern coast of Puerto Rico, is a popular destination known for its vibrant atmosphere and entertainment options. The picturesque sandy beach offers clear waters perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and diving off the colorful pier. Local vendors provide amenities such as beach chairs, umbrellas, kayak rentals, and paddleboards. The beach is also famous for its lively scene with food stalls lining the brightly painted pier and impromptu dance parties often taking place.
By far one of the most beautiful beaches I have been to so far. A little crowded but the scenery and water makes up for it 100% (Especially after visiting Buyé beach yesterday, awful) but can also walk down the beach to a quieter area. Very friendly people, cool food vendors and lots of ice cream carts on the beach. 10/10 Side note: parking can be tricky but not a bad walk if you’re able to do so.

Crashboat Beach is one of the most beautiful and lively beaches in Puerto Rico! The turquoise water, colorful pier, and fun local vibe make it a must-visit spot on the island. If you’re coming from San Juan, definitely rent a car because the drive takes about two hours, and it’s the best way to explore Aguadilla and nearby beaches. Once you arrive, parking is easy with plenty of on-site and street parking available. There are several food and drink stands right on the beach, offering everything from cold piña coladas to alcapurrias, pinchos, and fresh seafood. You can also rent beach chairs and umbrellas right on-site (cash only), which makes it easy to spend the whole day enjoying the sun. Whether you want to swim, snorkel, or just relax and watch the sunset, Crashboat has it all. This beach truly captures the island’s energy and beauty. It’s a perfect mix of fun, food, and paradise!

I’ve been to many countries and seen countless beaches, but this one is my number one - absolutely my favorite beach so far! The beach is quite spacious, so even tho it’s usually quite packed, you can easily get a place on the sand to lie down. There are also stalls selling food and drinks (just watch out for the prices - I paid 20$ for a Piña Colada). And the best part: there was no sargassum at all! Many beaches in PR are struggling with this plague, so finding one as clean as Crash Boat is just perfect.

Situated in a tranquil park with stunning ocean views, this picturesque destination offers a pleasant boardwalk and shaded spaces to relax. The lighthouse aids ships navigating the Mona Passage and provides breathtaking sunset views from its location on spectacular sea cliffs.
Great place for incredible sunsets & walking off dinner. Right around the corner is a small bar to wine down while enjoying the beautiful beach/ ocean views. The sounds of the forest are unmatched & relaxing! Plenty of parking & Plenty to see!

Faro Punta Higüeras is a pretty cool place to visit. The views are nice and the vibe is relaxing, but there are a few things that could definitely be better. Right now, the road leading to the lighthouse has some construction going on, and honestly, it takes away a bit from the experience. Also, I’m pretty sure there used to be a small shop or stand nearby where you could grab something to eat or drink...but it looks like it’s gone now (unless I’m mistaken). That little touch made a difference, so it’s a bit of a letdown not having it there anymore. Still worth checking out, but hopefully they bring back some of the charm it used to have.

Nestled in a stunning tropical setting, this unique destination offers an unforgettable opportunity to swim and interact with dolphins in their natural habitat. Guests can hold hands with these gentle creatures and embark on an exhilarating journey, experiencing both their playful nature and incredible speed.
We attended the dolphin explorer on Friday April 18th. I just wanted to share our experience. I loved the fact that we were in the ocean and not in a facility you can tell the dolphins are loved and cared for by the staff my family enjoyed our experience and learning about dolphins. We enjoyed meeting them and spending time with them it was such a great learning experience. I’m so glad we got to meet your dolphins and see how loved and cared for they are by the staff

Memorable experience with dolphins, a sea lion and perequitos! I love to know Dali and Picasso! 😍😍🐬 However, The water was dark due algaes( I used photoshop to make a pleasant pic) , the guy said that the clear water depends of the season, the best one is December -April. Also, they doesn't allow you to record or take pictures with your phone, to charge you an very expensive price for the pictures took by photographers! Other places, like monkeyland they allow cellphones and cameras and the pics package is very cheap, including a printed one for your memory.
SÓ A — Google review
This was the best experience ever! I've always dreamed of meeting a dolphin and this went above and beyond! We got to pet them, play with them, and do tricks with them! I highly recommend!!!
Emersen D — Google review
The dolphin experience was cute, and the kids were really excited. We were in the sea wearing life jackets, and the staff was very nice. Everyone from the age 3 and the high 1.10 meters can do it. The price is 109$ for a child and adults pay from 109$ for the cheapest activitie. If you have a car I recommend you to come with your own car otherwise you will have to wait for the pick up an hour and half after the activity ends. But the way they handle the photos is just a rip-off. It starts when they show you all the pictures and say the price is $200, then they tell you that doesn’t include the videos (another $60), and finally, they mention that it also doesn’t include the pictures with the parrots and the sea lion (an extra $100). It’s a shame that this is the feeling you’re left with when leaving the place. Even when we wanted to buy just a single photo, they asked for $40 (!!) for one picture with the dolphins. It’s really disappointing to end such an experience — one the kids were so looking forward to — on that note. Having to add another $300 just for photos, on top of an activity that was already the most expensive of the trip, is simply outrageous. It’s frustrating that this is how they operate — and that it seems acceptable to them.

On October 3rd, 2025, my wife and I visited Dolphin Explorer, hoping to have a beautiful experience with dolphins and create a happy memory. However, from the very beginning, we were divided into three groups of ten people each, and we immediately felt like we were in a factory rather than a leisure place. They kept giving us commands: “Sit, smile, go.” When we arrived at the area where the dolphins were, I couldn’t believe my eyes — the water was red and had a terrible smell. Still, we decided to go into the water. We only touched the dolphins for about 3–5 seconds, while the same commands continued: “Touch the dolphin, raise your hand, smile, and go.” If I were an animal protection organization, I would have shut this place down immediately because the dolphins live in extremely dirty water. After leaving the water, something even stranger happened. We wanted to go back home, but they didn’t let us. Instead, we were forced to sit in the restaurant inside the facility for about an hour and have dinner. Later, we wanted to check and buy our photos, but they looked like they were taken on a factory line — rushed and careless. In most of them, our eyes were closed, or we looked bad. Despite that, they asked for $150 for 20 photos. I only wanted to buy the ones I liked, but they refused; we had to buy all of them. I tried to explain: “Look, my eyes are closed in this one. Each photo costs around $11, so I don’t want this one,” but no one listened to me.

Must read before booking! If I had known what this experience was really like, I would never have booked it. We are a family of four (two adults and two young kids), and during our trip to Punta Cana ( OCT 25 ) we decided to book a dolphin encounter. If I could give negative stars, I absolutely would. 1. The whole operation is focused on upselling and pushing you to buy extra packages, especially photos and videos. 2. The photo\video prices are simply outrageous. A photo package for a family of four costs $260 USD! And some parts are not included. 3. You are not allowed to take your own photos, and although they claim to have professional photographers, the pictures were terrible. They completely missed key moments (like the dolphin kissing my child), and most photos were taken facing the sun, so we had our eyes closed the whole time. No sunglasses are allowed either. 4. The water platform is not suitable for children, and even my wife (1.60m tall) struggled to stand on her toes against the waves while holding our child — making it nearly impossible to follow the instructor’s directions. 5. The morning transfer took about an hour and a half, even though the site is only 40 minutes from our hotel, because they pick up people from multiple hotels. Very hard with small kids. Bottom line: we came with great expectations and left deeply disappointed. My mistake was not reading enough Google reviews before to understand what we were getting into. This review is my way of helping others. I hope you read this before booking and make an informed decision.

Other than that the place is a scam. They sell you one thing and when you arrive they argue that no it’s not possible even with a receipt. First of all they couldn’t find our reservations, thankfully we had the guys phone number that sold us the exertion, we called him and magically they found our reservations. The staff here are soooooooooo rude. I can’t even stress how rude they are. They take u around and in and out so u can buy more and waste ur time. The actual time with the dolphin is so limited. The group size is huge so ur literally just standing there for ur turn. Regardless of all that. The rudeness of the staff is unacceptable. They should hire nice people since they want tourists to come around. Staff leave u and walk away bc they’re so rude.

At first were very excited about this activity but at the end disappointed. We didn’t receive enough or good informations about how much you paid for which activity with dolphins. Don’t get me wrong my family and I had fun but we which we could swim cause swimming is the most important part that made us choosing the activity, but we didn’t nobody said anything to us and we paid. Secondly the photos,we’re not allowed to use our cameras cause they have their photographers(I get it,fully understand). But,please guys be honest and professional, your packages are expensive so take good shots, don’t just multiply the same image just to reach a certain number of photos and bim that it. We had to payed $150 for 54 photos(1 photo times 3 or 4) and we didn’t even receive the one with the parrots just frustrated. Last part is the movie(we choose to not pay for it because they put the other family in our movie and also the price. They don’t tell customers what they’re doing and we let them cause we think they are professionals. I am not feeling sorry about my review just want to help other people to know about what it’s or what it looks like. Be honest and professional

Bodies of Water
Hoyo Azul, also known as the Blue Hole, is a breathtaking natural sinkhole with crystal-clear turquoise waters located in the midst of a lush forest in the Dominican Republic. Accessible via a rainforest hike, this 14-meter deep lagoon offers visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in its vivid blue waters after trekking through the native flora and fauna. The site features a spectacular 75-meter cliff covered by vegetation, adding to its magical allure.
Pricey but well worth the money for the memories and adventures. The Hoya Azul itself is about a half mile walk up into the Jungle. I would also suggest going on the hottest day possible because that water is ice cold. Definitely bring swim shoes and comfortable walking shoes because the scuba shoes hurt your feet on the trail. Please note this is not a park for the faint of heart or young children under 12 or so. With that said there is a lot here to do and see if you like extreme adventures.

Great time for our family!!!! Bring sun screen, bug spray and water to drink. Price was reasonable for what we were able to do all day. Guides and staff were friendly, kind and helpful. Our family of six were able to park for free. Pay and get in the park very quickly. The staff will convert your payment into Dominican pesos quickly and let you know what you are spending in dollars. My favorite was jumping into the “Oyó Azul”. Cool and refreshing. Bring walking shoes that can get wet. Towels, backpack and a credit card were safe in the lockers that were guarded by a staff members. We had fun and felt safe as a family!!!!! Grasias para todo. Lo pasamos muy bien.

They closed the gates and we stuck there. They requested us to pay a bribe of $350 to open the gates. Had to brake it to escape. Then they were chasing us on a car with a shotgun. Tried to kill or smth. But we drove away They charge 69$ for this cinote which is a lot. You can go to other similar places and pay $4/pp. its kind of a scam

Shopping
Plaza San Juan Shopping Center is a vibrant indoor mall located in the heart of Punta Cana, offering a unique experience with over 69 shops and various entertainment spaces. Visitors can explore a natural park, enjoy lively bars and restaurants, and immerse themselves in Dominican culture at Las Americas. The center features an array of international brands alongside local artisanal works representing Dominican heritage. Additionally, it boasts diverse dining options including the only Burger King in the area.
It was my first time visit this shopping center. Overall it is safe and can walk around without any problem. There are security there so you feel a bit more safe. There a few shop hear and a mall which we like a little better because it got AC in and you can explore. Next door to the mall is Jumbo which is a grocery place that you can get really good local fruits that is really fresh. It totally worth the visit. It cost us only $10 for taxi driver to go there and $10 back. We ask our taxi driver to wait for us and we pay him after he drop us off at the hotel. Gratuity is a must to get great customer service so bring many one dollar bills, it does make a huge difference.

This shopping centre was a stone throw from my hotel and I did some shopping here. For someone that loves plantains; I could not resist taking a photo of these. I like that they have a few food places here. They have a Payless store, souvenir stores to get stuff, a bureau de change inside the supermarket( best rates) ; and you may also change money at the Western Union inside the pharmacy, a spa, and my favourite empanadas place ❤️❤️❤️

Very busy area. Getting there is horrible, the traffic is upsetting. Felt like a battle trying not to get in an accident. Why aren't there street lights? As a tourist, i didnt feel safe driving in the area.

Very nice plaza. Has everything a tourist needs. We shopped in Super Pola and this store was enough for our 1 month stay. I used a shuttle bus that this mall offers. Very convenient.

Really nice shopping mall, they have a great variety of everything. But the part that we most enjoyed was outside of the mall there is like little shops selling souvenirs and other interesting stuff.

Saona Island

Island
Nature & Parks
Saona Island, located in the southeastern side of the Dominican Republic, is a popular destination known for its serene beaches and coral reefs, making it a favorite among divers and snorkelers. The island is surrounded by lush natural beauty and offers stunning views across the sea. With approximately 2,000 visitors daily, it's evident that Saona Island is a beloved spot for both locals and foreigners alike.
Visiting Saona Island was one of the highlights of my trip to the Dominican Republic! This place truly feels like a tropical paradise, with its crystal-clear turquoise waters, soft white sand, and swaying palm trees. It’s exactly what you picture when you think of the Caribbean! The boat ride to the island was an adventure in itself—starting with a speedboat ride and a stop at the famous Natural Pool, where we waded in waist-deep, warm waters surrounded by starfish. On the way back, we took a catamaran cruise, which was a relaxing and fun experience, with music, dancing, and drinks included. Once on the island, the scenery was breathtaking. The beach was pristine, the water was perfect for swimming, and there were plenty of lounge chairs to relax under the sun. The tour included a buffet lunch, which was pretty good, and drinks were available throughout the stay. The only downside was that it can get crowded, especially around lunchtime, since many tours visit at the same time. However, if you walk a bit further down the beach, you can find quieter spots to enjoy the beauty of the island. Overall, Saona Island is a must-visit if you're in Punta Cana or nearby! The stunning landscapes and relaxing atmosphere make it a perfect day trip to escape and soak in the Caribbean vibes. Highly recommended! 🌊☀️

Most beautiful island I’ve ever seen which such lovely people on the island, great buffet lunch fresh and lovely (included in our excursion). You also see cute grabs scattering about. Though If you’ve booked an excursion with open bar and buffet- this excursion is a bit manic as it’s not very organised in timings. We only got 1.45 hour on the island when originally we were told 3. So make sure you pick a good provider with good reviews. Also be prepared to pay a load of money if they take your photos..

The most magical and stunning beach (island) I ever visited in my entire life. Words are not enough to express my feelings toward this island…
Hardik P — Google review
Isla Saona is absolutely stunning, a bounty island. The sea and the island are breathtaking and the natural pool stop is awesome (children can stand in the water, but please leave the animals alone). Fast boats are worth the extra cost: a slow boat wastes time and you’ll just get sunburned; for young people, the party-boat option is a lot more fun. Drinks sold on the beach can be expensive — try one and share, but bring your own drinks and sandwiches (pancakes and fruit from breakfast work great) to be safe, because on the boat trip they will asume you’re meat lover meat and/or pork. Not enough fruit and veggies for vegans and vegatarians! Bring a big hat and reapply sunscreen constantly — 10–20 times if you don’t want to come back like a red lobster. This goes for skin types white to brown. Bring you own musicbox and create youw own vibe. The view is magnificent either way and well worth the trip. This is a must see Island!

Isla Saona: Nature’s VIP Lounge — Five Stars, Zero Complaints If you’re ever in the Dominican Republic and don’t take a trip to Isla Saona, did you really even go? Because let me tell you, this island isn’t just beautiful — it’s a living screensaver, but with actual sea breezes, giant starfish, and zero Wi-Fi (which is honestly part of the magic). Getting There: We arrived on the island like explorers of old — except with sunscreen, sunglasses, and a boat full of excited tourists and reggaeton beats. The boat ride itself was a highlight: blue skies, turquoise waters, and that feeling that you’re slowly leaving reality behind. (Pro tip: don’t sit near the speakers unless you want your ribcage massaged by bass.) Nature Up Close and Personal: Once we landed, it felt like stepping into a postcard. Nature doesn’t just “surround” you on Isla Saona — it basically hugs you. Palm trees lean casually over the beach like they own the place (and honestly, they do), while the soft white sand welcomes you like a powdered donut made of dreams. Yes, there are some seaweed patches washed ashore, but they’re not the nasty kind — they just kind of vibe there, like nature’s beach towels. Nothing smelly or gross, just authentic seaside realism. Think of it as seasoning for your Instagram photos. The Water & Underwater Wonderland: Now let’s talk water. Crystal clear, bathtub warm, and shimmering like liquid turquoise. The kind of water that makes you rethink your entire life and wonder why you don’t live on a beach full-time. Whatever you do: BRING YOUR SNORKEL AND MASK. I’m not kidding. This is not a drill. The underwater life is next-level. We saw giant seashells (the kind you could hear the ocean from... probably because it was literally still in the ocean), and massive starfish that looked like they were training for the Sea Olympics. It’s like swimming in an aquarium, but without the glass or judgmental fish. Turtle Rescue Station (aka: The Surprise Gem of the Island): In a little village on the island, we stumbled upon a sea turtle rescue center — yes, really! Not only was it fascinating, it was heartwarming to see locals working to protect these ancient, flippered creatures. We learned a lot (and possibly got a little emotional, but let’s blame the saltwater). A great stop if you want a dash of education with your sunburn. Final Verdict: Isla Saona is paradise with personality. You get untouched nature, pristine beaches, epic snorkeling, and even a feel-good turtle experience. It’s the kind of place where your soul exhales — and where your phone battery dies, but in the best possible way. Five stars. Ten if I could. Just go. And don’t forget your snorkel — or your awe.
Christoph T — Google review
We visited Saona Island during our holiday in the Dominican Republic, and it truly felt like stepping into a postcard. The turquoise waters were unbelievably clear and calm, perfect for a swim or just soaking in the beauty. Towering coconut trees lined the shore, swaying gently in the breeze — it was nothing short of breathtaking. The island has a dreamy, tropical charm that makes you want to stay forever. While it was a bit crowded with tourists, it’s easy to understand why so many are drawn to its natural beauty. If you’re visiting the Dominican Republic, Saona Island is a must-see — just be prepared to share the paradise with others. 🌊🌺🐚
Katerina D — Google review
If you’re visiting the Dominican Republic, Saona Island is an absolute MUST! From the moment you step off the boat and feel the soft white sand under your feet, you’ll understand why this place is often called paradise on Earth. The views are unreal — crystal-clear turquoise waters, endless palm trees, and a peaceful breeze that makes you want to stay forever. We took a catamaran tour that included a stop at the natural pool, where we swam in shallow waters and saw huge starfish. It felt like something out of a dream! The guides were fantastic — friendly, fun, and full of interesting facts about the area. Lunch was served right on the beach and included delicious Dominican-style food and drinks. Everything was relaxed and beautifully organized. It’s the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Whether you want to take stunning photos, snorkel, dance on the boat, or just soak up the sun — this trip has it all.

Nature & Parks
Parque Nacional del Este is a nature reserve that offers rainforest trails, cave paintings, and opportunities for dolphin spotting on the nearby coastal islands. Visitors can also drive down to the park's beach area, which costs approximately 100 DR pesos to enter. The area includes hiking trails; however, visitors must obtain directions from a ranger as there are no trail signs. While hiking in this relatively dry area, it is recommended to bring water and food for safety purposes.
I have to ad a couple of my pics and videos of this stunning place :) Love this… but take some repellents - it’s a wild island.
Andrew — Google review
Beautiful, but not breathtaking Parque Nacional del Este is definitely worth a visit if you're in the Bayahibe area. The natural beauty, turquoise waters, and peaceful surroundings make for a relaxing day. However, in my opinion, the excursion itself isn’t something spectacular — especially if you’ve already seen similar beaches in the Caribbean. The boat trip and views are enjoyable, but don’t expect anything unique or out of the ordinary. Still, if you're looking for a calm escape in nature, it’s a nice option. Perfect for first-time visitors to the Dominican Republic.
Vecchio R — Google review
The water color is beautiful but the minute you step on the island, the locals harass you way to much. The water was full of sea weed and the boats kept revving up, making the whole place stink of fuel, so I didn't even go in the water. This was not a fun place.
Tanya S — Google review
Beautiful island with white soft sand, perfect for a relaxing day, snorkeling or swimming; lots of tours from main island (price varies from $50 to $100) but they ere all the same, so look for the cheapest price possible, everyone goes in the same bots, Catamaran one way and fast boat combined; unless you get yourself a private one. Do not miss the natural pool.

Our day trip to Isla Saona was wonderful. A beautiful beach, lots of palm trees that are beautiful and provide shade. You need to take a boat from Bayahibe to get to this island. We booked an excursion from Punta Cana

If you ever have a chance to visit this place I highly recommend it. It's just absolutely beautiful. The water was so warm, calm and the sand was so soft. We took a catamaran Excursion for the day and had a blast. The beach was not crowded at all which was very nice.

The beach is gorgeous. Careful when going in as there is coral and shells. Looks exactly like what was depicted in the movie Blue Lagoon. Lunch was simple but nice. Friendly service. Naturally beautiful.

Playa Pública Dominicus

Outdoor Activities
Playa Pública Dominicus is a beautiful beach with white sand and clear waters, holding the prestigious Blue Flag badge. It offers a relaxed atmosphere and is well-maintained. The shoreline features transparent waters and sandy ground, with some areas having fun waves caused by sand banks. While it can get busy, especially on Sundays, it's not overwhelmingly loud. Despite being somewhat touristy, there are affordable accommodation options nearby. However, visitors have noted that amenities like showers and bathrooms may be limited.
Our favourite beach, the water was so warm and the colour was insane. We stayed in the water for hours. It is small part of the beach between hotels and there are stalls with souvenirs. There is a small car par but when it is full over the weekend you can park along the road.

Very beautiful. But very dirty, take 20$ but don't clean the beach. They trimmed the trees to avoid shade, so they could sell more templates and umbrellas. All foto from closed beach.

Beautiful beach with turquoise water and natural sand this it’s your place to go for beach in Dominican Republic: Playa pública Dominicus La Romana. Here in the public area you can enjoy this stunning beach! The ocean it’s so clear that you can see your feet and the sand under the water and plenty of area that you can get in the ocean that it is not deep at all. They have umbrellas with beds for rent or bring your own one with chairs and have a great family and friend time. Food and drinks available for purchase and great variety of souvenirs shops too.

A Caribbean Dream! Dominicus Beach in Bayahibe is by far the most beautiful place I’ve seen during my trip to the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴. While we stayed in Punta Cana with my family, we were disappointed to find the beaches there (especially Bavaro Beach) covered in sargassum (seaweed), with a strong smell and murky waters—swimming was nearly impossible. Just a couple of kilometers further, Playa Macao had slightly cleaner water, but nothing compares to Bayahibe. This area belongs to the Caribbean Sea, unlike Punta Cana, which faces the Atlantic Ocean. The difference is huge: the water in Bayahibe is crystal clear, calm, and perfect for swimming or snorkeling. Dominicus Beach offers white sand, turquoise sea, and a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere—ideal for couples, families, or anyone wanting to enjoy paradise. If you’re planning a trip to the DR, skip the resorts of Punta Cana and head to Bayahibe. You’ll experience the real Caribbean here.a
Vecchio R — Google review
The beach itself is absolutely beautiful, transparent waters, all sandy ground, on one part with a fun wave caused by a sand bank. The shoreline is quite steep on some parts, so when going in, you're in hip or breast deep water in just a few meters, but it stays like this for a good 50-100m. The sand area is a bit littered, it doesn't seem like the locals keep it very clean, and bordered left and right by two all inclusive hotels who blast their music on the beach, additionally to the locals who love to bring their music boxes and mount a party on the beach. It is a quite crowded beach, due to its good access. So if you're looking for quiet relaxation and few to no other people, you better head further down the beach towards the nature reserve. You can rent two sun loungers + umbrella for 1000 RD$, one plastic chair for 150 and only an umbrella for 500. There is no shade on the front line, only in the access part of the beach are a few trees that provide good shade, if you don't mind the ants on the floor. We haven't seen any food shops, but there is a bar with shadow on the entrance of the beach and a couple tourist shops right on the shore. There's a large parking at the entrance, where you "can pay a fee or not" to the security guy to "watch" your car. There are no public showers or bathrooms. It is not allowed to bring animals. It's a blue flag beach so the water quality is monitored and good. Perfect place to watch the sunset.

Pretty beach, they try to keep it clean fairly well. Gets very busy and packed , but not uncontrollably loud on Sundays as some smaller local beaches do. Maybe I just didn’t see it, but I don’t think this one has any fresh water/hose/shower anywhere either . No clue about the bathrooms either , maybe only by the one little restaurant

Altos de Chavón is a recreated 16th-century Mediterranean village situated on the Chavon River in La Romana, Dominican Republic. This cultural center features an archeological museum showcasing Taino artifacts and a Grecian-style amphitheater that has hosted renowned musicians since its opening in 1982. The village boasts cobblestone streets, restaurants, bars, shops, art galleries, and craft workshops.
Need to prepare passport and sign documents before buying tickets to enter the area. The architecture is so interesting here. Every few steps is a cute angle or view of the houses. So pleasant to walk around. There are a lot of stores and restaurants. The village is very small but very interesting. Super cute place.

This is a place you have to visit once in your lifetime. An amphitheatre that is carved in the stone, just look at the pictures and judge for yourself, also if you like golf you can enjoy the best golf course in the Caribbean and possibly all Latinoamérica in Casa De Campo as well.

This place is an oasis. If you are interested in craftsmanship, history and supporting local artisans, this is the place. We absolutely loved the church, the amphitheater, and the museum was the highlight for us. Learning about the local indigenous culture and seeing original artifacts. If you want an experience that’s a little more special… and to find a souvenir that really means something, this is the place. There are small boutiques, and artists studios to visit. We didn’t eat there, but there are restaurants as well.

Beautiful Mediterranean inspired church and village perched on the cliffs overlooking the Chavon River. Even after finding out it was a real estate development project in the 80s, the stone work, landscape, and charm of this spot transports you in time.

Crismarlyn J — Google review
A Hidden Mediterranean Village in the Heart of the Caribbean. Perched above the winding Chavón River, Altos de Chavón feels like stepping into another world where time slows down and stone-paved streets tell stories of art, music, and culture. Designed in the late 1970s as a tribute to 16th-century Mediterranean villages, this one-of-a-kind place was brought to life by Dominican architect José Antonio Caro and Italian designer Roberto Coppa. Built entirely by local artisans using limestone, handcrafted wood, and wrought iron, every corner of the village carries the warmth and pride of its makers. Visitors enter through the gates of Casa de Campo, the private resort that surrounds Altos de Chavón. Guests of the resort can access the village freely, while outside visitors pay an entry fee that typically ranges from 25 to 50 dollars per person, depending on what’s included. Once inside, you’ll find narrow cobblestone streets lined with artisan shops, galleries, and cafés, along with stunning views of the river valley below. One of the most visited spots is the small but beautiful St. Stanislaus Church, where a relic from the saint himself, ashes sent by Pope John Paul II, rests behind the altar. At the heart of the village is the amphitheater, a 5,000-seat open-air venue carved into the hillside. Since its grand opening concert in 1982 featuring Frank Sinatra, the stage has welcomed some of the world’s biggest performers including Elton John, Andrea Bocelli, Juan Luis Guerra, Sting, Plácido Domingo, Luis Miguel, and Marc Anthony. With its impressive acoustics and dramatic backdrop, the amphitheater offers a unique concert experience under the stars. Altos de Chavón also offers several excellent dining options. Alegría serves a varied menu with breathtaking views of the river, with favorites like lobster rice, croquetas, and perfectly grilled churrasco. Onno’s Café, just steps from the amphitheater, is a laid-back spot popular for cocktails and quick bites. Other notable places include Chilango Taquería for tacos, La Piazzetta for Italian dishes, and Dye Fore Bar for drinks with a panoramic view. It’s important to note that after 5 p.m., non-resort guests are not allowed to dine in the village unless invited by someone staying in Casa de Campo, so plan accordingly if you’re visiting for the day. Parking is simple and close to the entrance, especially near Onno’s. The village is best explored on foot, but wear comfortable shoes, as the cobblestone paths can be uneven. Arriving early in the day allows for a quieter visit and the best photo opportunities, while sunset brings a magical glow over the river valley that’s hard to forget. Altos de Chavón also houses a fascinating archaeological museum with thousands of artifacts from pre-Columbian cultures. For those interested in hands-on experiences, there are art studios offering pottery, weaving, and silkscreen workshops. The village is home to a prestigious design school affiliated with Parsons, making it a creative hub where you’re just as likely to meet students sketching as tourists exploring. On certain weekends, you might stumble upon a local artisan market, with live music and handcrafts adding even more charm to an already special visit. Concert nights bring the village to life, and if you plan ahead, attending a show at the amphitheater is an unforgettable highlight. Altos de Chavón isn’t just a tourist attraction. It’s a carefully crafted escape filled with beauty, history, and inspiration. Whether you’re drawn by the architecture, the art, the music, or the peaceful atmosphere, this hilltop village offers a glimpse into something truly timeless in the heart of the Dominican Republic.

What an amazing day! Some of the best snorkeling. We took a day trip that we booked with Dive Klub at our resort. The pickup was a little discombobulated, which made us nervous, but it worked out great. We had a traditional Dominican lunch that was delicious and we snorkeled for most of the day. We saw an octopus and so so many unique fish. We were well taken care of and returned to our resort safely. Take your own towel. They have everything else including all the drinks and food. Water - BEAUTIFUL turquoise colour and so clean you could see the ground so clearly 😍 we saw dolphins on the way back too ❤️ but the beach 👎 I think the company (TORTUGA) paid for the cheapest spot on the Catalina island and they took us there . It’s NOTHING LIKE THE PICTURES THEY SHOW YOU or you can see on Google. That must be other part of the island. Not enough sun beds and the ALL INCLUSIVE was actually few drinks (rum and coke or rum and sprite ) that you can mix on the beach yourself. And ….. half of white sandwich with a tiny slice of cheese. Just awful. Also no catamaran only speedboat. Except of the dolphins 🐬, it wasn’t worth the money. Go with different company and go to SAONA I highly recommend 😍

Visitors can also enjoy the historic buildings and delicious food in La Zona Colonial after their visit to the cave. The site has shaded parking, a free mini-museum, and an inexpensive entrance fee. Tour guides who speak English are available and provide insightful information about the cave's history.
Wonderful spot to spend about an hour and a half with a very cool cave and fun little maze. Good for kids 6 and up! Does involve stairs and walking ~1 hour. The iguanas are also cool to see though you only stop by them for like 5 minutes.

First of all, I don’t like the fact that $ paying guests pay $10 for admission, while guests paying with DOP pay around $3. That’s discrimination. Other than that, the caves are amazing—very big and beautiful. The guides are friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. Make sure to wear non-slip shoes if you’re visiting, as the stairs can be quite slippery. The iguanas are kept in a large enclosure, but they seem to fight a lot, which makes me question whether keeping them together for tourists' sake is a good idea. Overall, I can recommend this place.

We've been to a few of the caves around here and this one is really made up for visitors. You can see the sign from the highway easily, and there is plenty of parking (even in shade). For two of us it cost about USD $8 And that includes the guided tour. They take you on a stone walkway through some lovely landscaped gardens (watch out for iguanas) and then down into the cave which is a very large chamber. The path isn't steep and it's relatively smooth and easy to walk. The lights are well timed and there are bags in the holes in the ceiling. One section has Taino petroglyphs and there is one section with a pool. It's not the most impressive cave system I've seen but they've set it up nicely for visitors and it's a good tour. The acoustics are impressive and towards the end of the tour you are taken into one section that literally has marble floors--they used to hold concerts and have weddings there--which kind of blows your mind (what do they do when it rains and floods??) you aren't down too deep but there's a flight of stairs (maybe 50 steps?) to get out. They finish with a tour of the iguana exhibits and there are a lot of them. We liked it and thought it was a good deal for the money, definitely something fun to see.

I see why they call it La Cueva de las Maravillas.... this place truly lives up to its name! The cave is absolutely beautiful, and the history behind it and how it was discovered makes the visit even more fascinating. I definitely need to go back to explore El Laberinto (the maze) and try the Paseo a Caballo (horseback riding). Highly recommended for nature and history lovers!

This attraction is very close to the playa neuva development by Bahia Principle. As I was told that tours cannot be formed during low seasons, we hired a private taxi through our hotel in going there. Please make sure you are paying the driver for the return trip so that he/she waits for you while there. On this day we visited Nov 5, the cave was virtually vacant except ourselves. So, nice photos. This national park is closed on Mondays.

This place is amazing. Not only the caves are marvelous but you can ride horses and go into a built-in in tree maze on sight. Several iguanas which give the place a jungle Caribbean vibe adequate for it's purpose.

The Cueva de las Maravillas (Cave of Wonders) is a remarkable historical site and a highlight for any nature lover. The journey to the cave is a beautiful trek through a rocky, tropical landscape perfect for spotting iguanas. To enter, you descend a long flight of stairs into the massive and impressive cavern. Inside, you'll find incredible Taino pictograms, making it one of the most significant examples of Taino culture. The cave, which is believed to be over one million years old, was a vital part of Taino life, used for protection from hurricanes and as a place for burial rituals. While the cave is immense, only about 25% has been uncovered to avoid disturbing the native fauna, including the bats that have long called it home. Initially, locals illegally harvested bat guano from the cave to sell as a powerful fertilizer. The tour guide person was excellent, offering a detailed and fascinating look into the history and culture of the Taino people. This tour is highly recommended and an excellent value.

We were added to a 20-25 child school tour. we were unable to keep up especially at end due to health issues and age. Lots of stairs to exit cave and lost group. would love to go again on next trip and actually hear the guide. Beautiful sites and well worth admission.

Nature & Parks
The Three Eyes National Park in Santo Domingo is a must-visit destination, offering a tranquil public park with a series of caverns housing scenic underground lagoons. Descend below the earth's surface through limestone caves and emerge at the first of three crystal-clear pools. This park has been featured in jungle adventure movies and is among the best-preserved rainforests in the Caribbean. It's an ideal spot for nature lovers and those seeking an unforgettable subterranean experience.
This is my new favorite place in the capital! It’s such a beautiful park with so many amazing views! The only thing I would change is that I wish they would allow you to swim! We were hot and sweaty come back up those stairs! They have it laid it nicely where you can walk down to see the three main ojos and take pictures. The water is so beautiful and clear, it’s unbelievable. They let us bring a dog in, but they said they were pretty strict about it sometimes. We loved it! Make sure you bring an extra $50 pesos to take the boat across to see the lagoon from the bottom. It’s spectacular!
Bonnie S — Google review
The park is located in the city which makes it easy to get to. The entry is $200peso which is reasonable. Be very careful when walking up and down the stairs, I slipped a couple of times. It's very humid and the stairs are wet naturally. The cenote are all close together. I took my time walking around slowly purposely and taking pictures and was done in an hour. This can easily be a 30 min in-and-out trip.

Beautiful park of four cenotes. I do think it's worth going to if you happen to be in Santo Domingo. This information was current as of my visit: - The Uber there from the zona colonial was 3-4 dollars, it was about a 20 minute ride. - The park opens at 8am and charges 200 pesos to extranjeros, credit card only. - There are 4 lakes. You go down a staircase to access 3 of them; a raft will take you to the 4th lake. - The raft starts running at 9(ish) and costs 50 pesos for an adult, cash only. - The whole thing does not take long to explore and you don't need a guide. One guide I saw was barely explaining anything to his group, while the other did a good job giving history and geographic knowledge, but it was all stuff you can read online yourself. - If your goal is to beat the crowds, I would recommend coming at around 8:30. Walk around the 4th lake from ground level (takes about 10 minutes), then descend into the cavern and visit all three lakes (15 minutes) before waiting at the third lake for the first boat. Add more time if you're a slow walker or the type to stop and take a lot of photos. After 9 you will see a lot more people, including groups of school kids and what not. - I'm not sure, but I suspect the lighting might be better later in to the day when more sunlight can get into the caves. If you're fine with crowds and midday heat, you might want to try around noon for more turquoise-y water. - There are a good nunber of stairs. It's fine for the average adult with no disabilities, but it's not an accessible site.

An interesting green area to visit in Santo Domingo, combining forest, underground passages, rock formations, and blue lakes. The infrastructure is quite massive and somewhat invasive, but this was the typical style for caves adapted for visitors between the 1950s and 1980s. Some guides lack technical training in karst geology and hydrogeology, so their explanations often mix facts with myths. The most disappointing part for me is the souvenir shop at the exit, where they sell handicrafts made from the very geological formations the park is supposed to protect. Despite these drawbacks, the park is still worth visiting to enjoy its lush greenery and unique subterranean scenery.
Jose G — Google review
It's good to spend some time to take a look the three eyes cenote. No swimming allowed. You need to tell the ticket sales person which currency 💲 you would like to pay otherwise she will automatically deduct US dollars from your credit 💳 card. No cash accepted.
Shirley — Google review
This is definitely one of my favorite spots in Santo Domingo. The park is easy to navigate. The staff is friendly. It is an amazing little slice of nature trapped in the chaotic bustle of one of the America’s oldest cities. There is a small pull along, underground raft to ride from one of the lakes to the fourth lake. It has a small fee, but is completely worth the extra, insignificant cost.
Nick S — Google review
This place is very beautiful. The cenotes are big and impressive. The place is always crowded, but if you are visiting Santo Domingo, I will definitely add it to my to-do list. I highly recommend to NOT BUY a tour at your hotel. This place is within the city and only about 6 minutes drive from the Colonial section. We got offered a tour to visit this place for $ 60 US dollars per person, about $72,000 DM pesos. They make it sound very good, the said transportation is included, and they also included visiting other places in town that are within walking distance and free. Since i had a rental car, we decided to go in our own, and I'm felt very lucky to have done this because the place is very close by, the admission is only $50 pesos for locals and $200 for tourists, and then we hired a guide right there for $30 US dollars, $1800 DM pesos for the entire group, in this case my wife and I, but it could it be up to six people for the same price. The guide was very nice and helpful thru the entire way of our walk thru the cenotes for a total cost of $2,200 DM pesos in steady of the $72,000 the guide wanted at the hotel. Last, at the end of the trip, they will walk you thru this mini market were they offer a lot of jewelry and other local crafts.. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING HERE. The prices are completely out of control and the quality of the pieces are questionable. Our tour guide made us aware of this. We thank him a lot for that. Aside from this, you would love this place.

Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, also known as Santo Domingo Cathedral or Catedral Primada de America, is a remarkable 16th-century Gothic cathedral located in the Western hemisphere. Its golden coral limestone front and historic art pieces make it a must-see attraction. The cathedral's construction began in 1514 and continued until 1540, resulting in a blend of architectural styles including Gothic vaults, Romanesque arches, and baroque ornamentation.
I've been to a lot of Cathedrals all over the world, and while one or two are unique, most of the time they are the same. This one is unique in how bright it is, and feels kinda squatly built. Bring some cash, about 100 per person, to get a ticket and audio tour available in several languages, and casually stroll through and listen to the history and see art that's been here over 500 years. They will evaluate if your clothing is modest enough (long enough, no visible shoulders) and provide coverings if you don't meet the standard.

The first and the oldest standing church in the Americas is definitely worth a visit while you are in Santo Domingo. You will get an audio guide upon entry. Unfortunately, filming is not allowed, and you are limited to only taking photos.
Reza N — Google review
This was definitely on my list of churches and cathedrals to visit since it is the first one in the Americas. Currently the fee is 80 Pesos for non Dominicans and free for Dominicans. If you’re in shorts or your outfit is too revealing, you may be provided a free cloth/ scarf. Definitely not as impressive as some European cathedrals I visited but still worth it because of the history.
Emanuel D — Google review
This is a great place to visit while in the colonial zone of Santo Domingo. In a little bit off the beaten path, but well worth the trip. The church is beautifully restored, and while exploring the property, you can get some fairly nice views of the colonial zone from high at top of the hill at the old city wall.
Jason A — Google review
A beautiful landmark in the heart of the Colonial Zone, it's something you should see if you have the chance to stroll through the area. Christopher Columbus Park is lovely and there are nice restaurants all around.
Michelle M — Google review
Incredible how this is the oldest cathedral in the Americas from 1540. Still standing and beautiful. It has a mix of Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles that gives an important historical and cultural feature to the city. We heard in the tour that Columbus remains are there, but they’re also in Sevilla. We started researching a lot online after learning about this…

Very cheap entry, around 2$ incl audio guide. Nice building but not as impressive as other old cathedrals. But in my eyes a must visit in Santo Domingo, since it is the oldest cathedral of Continents of Amerika.

It was interesting going back in time like that, visiting their home and walking through it's walls. The fee was very low for visiting the museum, only 2$ and the included audio tour was very good and helpful.

I drove around as I missed the parking garage and couldn’t not find it again. I drove past slowly and couldn’t take photo. It was a lovely view. The whole of the town is picturesque. Cobbled streets and no parking signs everywhere! Some nice shops I wish o was able to get to visit. Large police station and police presence. I will definitely go back next time and walk around on foot.

Beautiful Old historical residential museum in the heart of Zona Colonial which was built by Diego Columbus. The ticket to enter was about $2/person. It comes with an audio device where you can learn about the history of the museum and each room. On the second floor, you can see a beautiful view of the river and the Colonial area. We spent about 30-45 minutes here and it's definitely worth visiting if you are in the colonial area. It was not crowded and the staffs were pleasant.

My bad luck, past 3 trips, I have encountered something like this every trip. Chicago- bean was under construction. Acadia, can’t see the sunset due to fog, and now this. The place was closed for renovation. Overlooking the Plaza de España and the Ozama River, the Alcázar de Colón (Columbus Palace) was built in the early 1500s as the governor’s residence. Once the home of Diego Colón, Christopher Columbus' son, this 16th-century viceregal palace (or residence of the governor/viceroy) was the nucleus of the Spanish court for more than 60 years. Explore 22 rooms over two stories inside the restored palace and museum, and see a collection of furniture, household items, artworks, tapestries, musical instruments, and weaponry, which offer a glimpse of life in Colonial Santo Domingo. A tour of the Alcázar de Colón is a must for anyone who wants to learn more about the city's rich history. And be sure to pick up some headphones to take advantage of the museum's self-guided audio tours Today, it’s one of the Colonial Zone’s most popular museums, and houses period furniture, artworks, and artifacts from the 16th century.
Sanjay G — Google review
The Italian Renaissance inspired Alcazar de Colón [Castle of Columbus] is also called Palacio Virreinal de Diego Colón [Viceroy Palace of James Columbus]. This building was the first viceroy palace in the Americas, along with the home of Colón y Toledo. According to the sign on the outside of the palace, the family built the house by 1511 and lived in the house until 1577. Last restored in 1955, the building is now a historical museum with sporadic opening times. The museum was closed for maintenance during my visit.
Abigail E — Google review
We had a guided tour. It was facinating to learn about the history of these Spanish upper.class that came to live in Santo Domingo. Much of the furniture and decorations are original, even if the actual structure is not. Most notable was that Christopher Columbus son and his wife were the ones to occupy the palace. Really, quite exceptional to see
John K — Google review
Museum is reasonably interesting but quite small with little description on the artifacts. Audioguides are given out at the entrance however I had a tour goide and don't believe I got as much out of it as I might have, since explanation was about little other than it being Christopher Columbus' house which was destroyed by Frances Drake. It's unfortunate the remainder of the building to give a truer idea of how the place functioned.

Salto Jimenoa Two is a stunning waterfall located in the picturesque region of Jarabacoa. The hike to reach the waterfall can be challenging, but the sight of the cascading waters makes it all worthwhile. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk on suspension bridges and marvel at the natural beauty surrounding them. Although access to Salto Jimenoa Two may be limited at times, its grandeur and tranquility make it a must-see destination for nature enthusiasts.
Beautiful waterfall, short walk , the bridges were fun, only 8 person at the same time on the bridges, some identified spots for swimming. Not swimming near the waterfall.

Gorgeous waterfall with a small pool but unfortunately you cannot swim or paddle there. You park at the barrier for 150 pesos, then walk a little way down the road then enter on the LHS. The path is a series of small flights of stairs up and down and you cross some hanging bridges to get to the lookout point. It's an easy walk unless you have trouble with stairs.
Phil M — Google review
This is a great place to go on an easy hike, enjoy nature, or just chill at the river! If you want to enter the park, make sure you get there before 4. It’s about a 25 minute walk in and another 25 on the walk out so they don’t let visitors in. Also, right next to the entrance there’s another path (outside the park) that leads you down the river to some amazing views and small falls. I did it in flip flops, but you may want to wear more comfortable shoes, especially if it’s raining.

I really liked the experience of visiting this place, even though I was filled with a lot of fear on the bridges it was an incredible experience, the breeze, the atmosphere, I really liked it a lot. Seeing how nature is reflected in this area was incredible, what I liked most of all were the different points of green area it has and its beautiful waterfall.

Nice big waterfall. Like 15 min walk on some bridges with plants and the lake on the side/under. You wont get wet dont worry, and the road is built well. Thing is, you’re like 100 meters away from it and cant get in the water - but might be worth the small walk. For Americans, 100 meters is like a football field. After you exit the waterfall there is a nice walk in the woods you can take and sit on the river and even go in if you like - its cold!

Sights & Landmarks
The Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration is a notable landmark situated on an elevated position in downtown. Its eight-story tall structure, originally built to commemorate Rafael Trujillo, was later rededicated to honor Dominican soldiers who fought for independence against Haiti. The stairs leading up to the monument are lined with large bronze statues of generals while its sixth floor museum showcases the fascinating history of Dominican Republic. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Santiago from this hilltop monument, attracting many tourists and students alike.
The **Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration** (Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración) is a prominent landmark located in **Ciudad de Santiago de los Caballeros**, the second-largest city in the Dominican Republic. This monument honors the heroes of the **Restoration War** (1863–1865), a conflict in which the Dominican Republic fought to regain its independence from the annexation by Spain. Standing tall at 67 meters, the monument is not only a tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of those who fought during this pivotal period in Dominican history, but also a symbol of national pride. The monument’s architectural design is impressive, featuring a large obelisk surrounded by sculptures and inscriptions that commemorate the country's struggle for sovereignty. Visitors can also enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding area from the top of the monument, which adds to its appeal as both a historical site and a scenic viewpoint. The **Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration** is a must-visit for anyone interested in learning about the Dominican Republic’s rich history and culture.

The Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration is a beautiful and iconic place to visit in Santiago. It’s a great spot to stop and take in the full panoramic view of the city — absolutely stunning, especially around sunset. The monument itself is impressive and rich in history. The only downside is that there are no souvenir options like fridge magnets or pins, which is a shame for such a special and meaningful landmark. It would be nice to bring home something to remember the visit. Still, definitely worth the stop if you’re in Santiago!

Fresh, Windy, Historic and. Surrounded by restaurants, hotels, malls and other places of interest. Right in the center of the city and about 10-15 minutes away from the international airport. easy to get to with plenty public parking. Buy the ticket at the main entrance to go up yo the 5th floor where you can enjoy a wonderful 360 degrees view of the city and mountains. Your ticket will help to maintain the cleaning and other areas like the green area etc. Many guys (seller of beer) will approach you to sell you a refreshing beer, go ahead and enjoy it. It’s a secure place and don’t panic if you see law enforcement driving around even in motorcycles or walking, it helps to keep the city even safer. Did I mention the rides on the horse in carriage? Don’t miss it, I love it at night :) it’s romantic and tradition of the city itself. The city is becoming more attractive because in the pass year or two to the date, many changes in the architecture have occurred. New high rises and better public ground transportation are being built, the value has grown and it’s a perfect time to invest for those interested.

We did not go up the monument as we just missed the opening times. They vary day-to-day, so check them out. However, it is a great place to visit, with all the heros basques and statues circling the monument, as well as the fantastic views available across the plateau on which Santiago sits and the impressive hill and mountain ridges that surround it. Great time all around. Do the experiences! Yes they cost a bit, but well worth it. And get the pictures too. Again, yes they are expensive but those are awesome memories. Staff was awesome and very friendly, helpful, funny, and personable. Skip the buffet though, totally not worth it. Definitely recommend the dolphin and sea lion experience.

There was a little misunderstanding at the reception — my husband thought that by paying for the dolphin encounter he would be able to take photos of us, but it turned out that phones were not allowed in the area at all. He was very upset, and the situation could have completely ruined our visit. Thankfully, supervisor Juan L. Rojas stepped in and handled everything with true professionalism, patience, and a sincere smile. Juan L. Rojas turned what could have been a disappointing experience into one of the highlights of our trip. He is a true professional who knows exactly how to treat guests and resolve issues with grace and respect. This is the kind of attitude that makes people want to come back again and again. Thanks to him, we left with wonderful memories, amazing photos, and a deep appreciation for the way he handled the situation. He truly deserves recognition and a well-earned bonus! 🌟
