Visitors are captivated by the evocative artwork throughout the church, making it well worth a visit. The guided tours provide great insights into the history of this beautiful old Catholic church, adding to the extraordinary experience.
What a hidden gem of Bairnsdale. We parked in the street to have a bit of a walk and saw the sign that mentioned the paintings inside. We are so glad we went inside as this was truly amazing and unexpected. Beautiful paintings across the walls and roof of the church. A beautiful place for peace and reflection.

This church features stunning hand-painted artwork that adds a special touch to the serene atmosphere. Conveniently located next to Subway and McDonald’s, it’s perfect for those who want to grab a quick breakfast or lunch after attending mass. A great spot for both spiritual and practical needs!
Rosalina W — Google review
We happened to arrive on ANZAC Day, so the main street was blocked off for commemorations, but it didn’t stop us from visiting St Mary’s Catholic Church. The most striking feature of this church is its stunning ceiling and wall murals, painted in vivid colours. The artwork was completed in two stages between 1931 and 1938 by Francesco Floreani, an artist from Venice who had migrated to Australia in 1927. During the Great Depression, a local priest, Fr. Cremin, discovered his artistic talent and commissioned him to decorate the church. The murals, influenced by Renaissance religious art, have earned the church the nickname "the Sistine Chapel of rural Australia" (though maybe a more modest version!).
Synthia Z — Google review
Wow, it’s like a little piece of Europe in country Victoria. I wasn’t quite prepared for how stunning the interior of this Church in Bairnsdale was. Was a quick stop of my way to Melbourne from Canberra down the coast road. Gorgeous!
Triplemytreat — Google review
Most beautiful church with most peaceful feeling that I've visited in Victoria. If you're in this area or visiting bairnsdale please take the time to step inside and be amazed. Yo won regret it... P.s God will be greatful you taken the time to do so. Amen
CHAIN M — Google review
Incredible that you can still walk into a place like this for free and be awe-inspired and feel so much peace away from the world. Worth making the suggested donation for continued upkeep so that many more can enjoy for years to come.
Go W — Google review
Definitely worth a stop. The outside is like many old churches in Australia but the inside makes you feel like you are in a church in Italy. Fabulous paintings adorn the whole ceiling and there is beautiful stained glass windows.
Geri H — Google review
Wow what an amazing church. We had the guided tour and it was very interesting. I highly recommend visiting the church.

Thomson River Swing Bridge

Mentioned on

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
La Trobe Swing Bridge is a remarkable feat of engineering and a valuable destination for history enthusiasts. The area boasts informative information boards, ample parking on both sides of the bridge, and stunning views of the waterway from atop. Despite occasional flooding during early spring, the attraction remains intriguing to visitors. This Australian landmark represents a well-preserved piece of national engineering history and has undergone meticulous restoration efforts. The bridge opens every Saturday at noon, showcasing its impressive mechanical functionality.
Amazing to see something so unique! I do wonder if there is a tour that you can do that explains the entire history of this bridge but for the meantime the signs will do :) I would also love to see if it still opens up and I'd like to watch it happen!
Kane A — Google review
A lovely old bridge that I would love to see open. It opens on Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 3&4pm according to the signs. You can walk across and get lovely views of the LaTrobe River. A couple of picnic tables and a large car park.
Jo S — Google review
Was lovely where we were seated, to have lunch and let the kids run amok, bridge was stunning, however it takes an eternity to turn (maybe 20 minutes) and this is boring for the kids if it's all you go for - i suggest packing a lunch or snacks that you can eat while watching. Very impressed with the council for keeping this going, it was very interesting to see overall, so as to understand this integral part of sales history.
Cassandra M — Google review
The Swing Bridge has a really cool backstory, and it’s worth stopping to read about its history. The view from the bridge is great, and it’s amazing to see such an old structure still standing strong today. However, there are quite a lot of spider webs and insects all around the bridge. Everyone felt a bit itchy after walking across! It’s still an interesting spot to visit, but definitely bring insect spray and be cautious while crossing.
Punnatorn V — Google review
Iconic engineering marvel for its time, this innovative swing bridge is part of a larger wildlife/marshland conservation park that features extensive walks and explanation concerning it's natural environment. The bridge itself is able to be traversed on foot and the design of the bridge can be easily studied. Recommend a brief stop for the bridge or a more extensive exploration of the larger park area. Lots of cycleways.

The Vines on Avon is an absolute gem! The attentive staff provided impeccable service from start to finish, making me feel welcomed and cared for. We have been for breakfast, lunch and tea and each time the meals have been great. The inviting ambiance further enhanced our experience, making it ideal for any occasion. Great outside area overlooking the vines would be great for a social beverage with friends or colleagues. I can't wait to return!
Cherie M — Google review
Nice lunch and good service. The only downside for me was that my glass of Avon Ridge sparkling wine seemed a bit flat and it would have been great to have a bowl to put my empty mussel shells in so I could easily eat all the sugo.
Casey B — Google review
Wonderful wine, gnocchi was delicious, so flavorsome and filling. Hubby had the fish n chips and was stoked. The place is looking much better since the new manager, nice greenery around, including the lights above, maybe l think, a new paint job inside. Staff were beaut and serving was a breeze, one even returned half way through the meal to check it was to everyone's liking. Also wait staff at end of meal wanted to know if everyone was satisfied with meals, excellent! Can't wait to return with the ladies next time, well done guys 😉😍

Tammy is wonderful! She is professional, kind and is so easy to communicate with. She made organising our wedding a breeze. There was no issue to big for her and her team. I was so impressed with the assistance we received when setting up and packing down on the day. The food was delicious and loved by everyone! And of course the Avon ciders are so yummy. 10/10 would recommended the Vines for any event, especially weddings!
Hannah H — Google review
Great place for breakfast, we didn't book and they were understaffed but still did a great job at getting the drinks and food out quickly! Eggs Benedict were delicious!!
Ethan M — Google review
We celebrated my birthday at The Vines on Avon today and we can't speak highly enough of our experience. The staff were excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. We were a party of five and everyone ordered something different. Wow! All the meals were fabulous and we all commented on how lucky we are to be local to this wonderful venue. Congratulations to you all on your new venture and we look forward to returning in the very near future. If you are wanting to experience an extra special meal, don't hesitate, you won't be disappointed!
Lynne N — Google review
Great views, good service, generous serves, and even on a wet Sunday, live music.

Went for Mothers day tea tonight 14/5/23. What a fantastic place you have. My wife is a Coeliac and the menu for her was amazing, she had the parmy and it was huge. I had the porterhouse steak sanga with chips, sorry I couldn't eat the chips as the meal was huge for me. So very nice and priced very reasonable. Thank you

Tarra-Bulga National Park (Parks Victoria)

Mentioned on
8 lists
National park
Nature & Parks
Parks
Tarra-Bulga National Park is a protected rainforest that boasts giant tree ferns, picnic areas, walking tracks, and waterfalls. It is an isolated national park that provides visitors with a sense of being transported back to the Stone Age. The park's seclusion makes it an ideal destination during Covid times when people seek solace in nature without encountering crowds. The Corrigan suspension bridge offers breathtaking views and should be on every visitor's itinerary.
First of all, we didn’t know that it’s not dog friendly. The receptionist told us that if the ranger caught us with dog around, we will get ‘good’ fined. Not even allow to put the dog in the car. Understandable since it’s national park and many wild animals. Fantastic trail from visitor center to suspension bridge. You can grab a map from the visitor center and can get the information from the receptionist. Track has some decent inclines, but still ok even for amateur. You can do picnic at the end. Lots of tables and a BBQ area at the visitor center car park. We managed to go all the routes. The weather in end of January was great, not too sunny and not too cold either. Amazed with the giant fern trees and some ancient trees. You may feel like being in the avatars movie. Didn’t manage to see any lyrebirds or other wild animals. Will plan again next time.
Nuryana L — Google review
Tarra-Bulga National Park is the ideal setting for a therapeutic walk in nature. Surrounded by lush greenery and towering canopies, I felt both energised and peaceful throughout the experience. The ferns, especially the tree ferns, were so immersive they seemed to draw me into their layered wonders. Crossing the Corrigan Suspension Bridge felt like stepping into the heart of the rainforest canopy. It was relatively quiet during our visit, which added to the sense of serenity. I was deeply impressed by the sheer scale of the ancient Mountain Ash trees and the organic, un-manicured beauty of their growth.
Josephine W — Google review
Quite an interesting spot. The walk isn't very difficult so people coming should have no problem navigating the park. The trails are maintained extremely well and offer a relaxing walk through nature full of ferns and other greenery. The suspension bridge is also a nice addition. Perfect for photography!

Beautiful camp site in winter, you can hear the river running as you'll be camped right next to it. Showers are hot and power is avail. kitchen is great, bring your own redgum for camp fires, roads are sealed well, but they're very narrow & windy, speed limit is 80kms, but you'll b e doing more like 40-50kms,
Water G — Google review
Loved this trekking spot! The trail is about an hour long, fun, and the views are stunning. Perfect for a quick adventure with great scenery. Highly recommend checking it out!
Nuri A — Google review
Google maps had reviews saying the swing bridge was closed, it isn't. But one of the tracks is. There are other access points to get to the bridge. We left from the visitor center. Beautiful walk.
O0Bex0o — Google review
Some parts are not well maintained (ferns, branches across tracks) but i think it adds to the character and beauty of the area. Nice place for a stroll through nature. Not very crowded when I went.

The Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine in Walhalla offers guided tours that take visitors deep into the underground workings of the historic mine. With a rich history dating back to the gold rush era, this 8.5km mine eventually became one of the most productive in the area, yielding over 13,695kg of gold.
We had a group of 16, and our guide Ben gave an incredibly informative and engaging tour. Everyone—from kids to adults—had a great time. We’re very thankful to Ben and the entire team for making the experience so enjoyable. Highly recommended!
S D — Google review
Ben was an absolute terrific guide! He was knowledgeable and very chill. He kept us entertained with stories, facts and just generally was nice so props to Ben! The tour itself is easily worth $25 per person and takes approx. 1 hour. We will definitely be back!

We had a wonderful experience at this Gold mine our tour guide Karen was wonderful, allowed us time to take photos and have a good look around, bubbly personality and great communication with our grandson. Great history being remembered and told to next generations.
Roamoz — Google review
We went on the Walhalla Gold Mine tour today, and our tour guide was Hayley. We had a great time and learnt so much about how times were tough mining in the early days. Hayley was a wealth of knowledge and made the tour fun, my grandson even found gold lol. We came home and Googled more on the history of Walhalla, this little town has so much heritage and history, it's well worth the the trip. Next time we are doing the ghost tour and the Walhalla train 🚂. Thank you Hayley for an amazing day.
Linda B — Google review
Huge thanks to Richard for being our guide, your humour and knowledge made it such a memorable experience. The tunnel itself is super impressive and quite possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see something like it. So don’t miss this off your Walhalla itinerary! Also, a big thank you to the lovely lady at the front desk, and to Richard again - thanks for the laughs (and for having a laugh with me). I am still wondering though… is that your brother? 😛😅
Grace W — Google review
We had a lovely time thanks to Ben! Too bad we couldn't find a gold nugget! Unfortunately, most of the town was closed on the Monday we visited. Also, do top up your petrol to a full tank before you come up as the windy road takes up more gas than you'd think. The nearest petrol station is in Moe and the rate is quite high.
Mandy M — Google review
had a great time going through this tour ..the guide is very informative and there is a fair bit to see unlike a lot of mines that are basicly tunnels .....mine is unique because they had boilers set up inside the mine and that room is still visible minus boilers of course ..definitely worth a visit and the amazing town of Valhalla is worth it just to see that
Warren B — Google review
This is an absolute must do tour if you are ever in town for a visit!! To really learn and understand Walhalla’s history with both the mine its self and the town ship, go give it a go!! Our tour guide Karen was amazing!!! She was a local who not only knew her stuff but has so much passion for the place she lives in. Karen was a great, bubbly person, great with the kids, down to earth and had so much knowledge about what she was talking about. Highly recommend going on one of her tours if you can.

Scenic Railroads
Nestled in a picturesque valley, Walhalla is a meticulously preserved goldmining town with a rich history. The area was once heavily deforested by mining companies, but now offers lush greenery and intriguing remnants of its past. A must-see attraction is the Walhalla Goldfields Railway, which dates back to 1910 and was revived in 2002 after years of disuse. Visitors can embark on this historic train journey through the stunning landscape.
Loved this beautiful little village! Put Walhalla on your bucket list! We did a day trip, luckily we went on a Wednesday, we caught the train for a 1 hour trip. The station is just before Walhulla. From there, we went into the village and had lunch at the Whitch Cafe, so lovely and cosy. Great coffee and toasties. Pub was far too busy. The pub in the village is closed but the other pub is on your way into the village. Lovely walk on the walking track up the hill and around, looking down on the village, exiting at the Gold Mine. Easy walk about 15 minutes. Beautiful B&B's available. The hole village is so clean and neat. The trees just started to change into their 🍂 🍂 leaves. (March) Population of 20! Unbelievable!!

A lovely way to spend a Sunday. It's a scenic drive to Walhalla and a step back in time exploring the historical gold mining town. The train ride was enjoyable. Get the best views from the right- hand side of the train. Be sure to be on time - it fills up quickly, and book tickets beforehand online.
Najiba S — Google review
We had a day out exploring this quaint little town. Luckily the last train still had tickets and we just about managed to get on. There’s parking near the station as well as nearby to park your car. The train goes one way and after a few minutes returns the same way. If you wish, you could park the car at the other end and just travel the one way. If you can, sit on the right side of the train as left is mostly hill and rock face. It can get cold so take a warm jacket as well. Food is allowed on the train. We packed a small thermos and some sandwiches which we had on the train and few others had food as well. There’s a shop attached to the main station where you can get the tickets and souvenirs. And few toilets.

We spent the Easter break at Walhalla with friends and family, and the Goldfields Railway ride was the highlight of our trip. The vintage train, stunning views through the valley, and charming trestle bridges made it feel like a journey back in time. The volunteers were so welcoming and knowledgeable—it really added to the experience. To avoid disappointment, I recommend booking tickets in advance, especially during holidays. And while you're there, don’t miss the Walhalla mine tour—it’s fascinating! We also enjoyed a relaxing picnic at North Park Garden, a beautiful and peaceful spot just perfect for unwinding. A wonderful day out for all ages—highly recommend it!

Absolute ripper of a day out, picturesque historical gold mining town with plenty of charm to walk around whilst waiting for the next train. Super friendly and an amazing bunch of volunteers who keep this running for us to enjoy. Pay the smidge extra and ride up the front with the driver, will not be disappointed. Will definitely be back in the warmer months

Absolutely loved this charming little village! We did a day trip and were lucky to visit on a Wednesday—light rain and cool weather made it even more enjoyable. Took the train for a scenic one-hour round trip—be sure to sit on the right side for the best views! The walking track up the hill and around was lovely and peaceful. And can you believe it? The population is just 20—unreal!

Great scenic train ride with lots of local history. A well run railway mainly by local volunteers. Plenty of history to explore in Walhalla too.

Morwell Centenary Rose Garden is a paradise for rose enthusiasts, featuring a vast array of rare rose varieties and hybrids meticulously tended to by dedicated volunteers. The garden offers a picturesque setting with lush green lawns, winding pathways, and the opportunity to capture stunning photos among the fragrant blooms. Visitors can also enjoy the annual rose festival, complete with stalls offering gardening products and a mesmerizing light show during the holiday season.
I went to the rose festival yesterday and Friday night light show. A terrific experience with great atmosphere. A huge credit goes to the small number of Volunteers who maintain the roses all year round. Well done.

These decent sized rose gardens are worth a visit if you love roses. A large map provides direction to the collections. And 95% were labeled. Some had missing labels closer to the car park. Parking is easy in side streets lining the garden or at the large carpark along the train lines. The garden extends either side of the main road and includes a planted roundabout. You can see most of the flowers from your car as you do a lap, so if it’s end of season you can see if it is worth stopping. There was still plenty of flowers to see and most importantly smell during our visit in early April. There are also public toilets as part of the garden.

An amazing collection of over 200 different types of roses - more than 4000 bushes - in bloom. They had passed the full glory of their spring flowering, but it was still a glorious sight.

I was thrilled to see my story in the latest newsletter in regard to being the secretary for six years. I am in awe of the work in the garden after so many years.. To all the friends, committee and anyone involved in the ongoing nurturing of this wonderful garden, I thank you... It is such a wonderful thing to have a stroll around the garden now. I am now 80 and on a wheelie walker, and am continually seeing things still happening. Such a legacy to see that it is , and always will be a source of beauty and a joy forever... Joan Blizzard

Agnes Falls is a stunning waterfall just a short drive from Toora. The waterfall cascades down large rock steps into a deep ravine, creating a magnificent sight. It's an ideal spot for a family picnic or to find inner peace while capturing the natural beauty and tranquility of the area. The viewing area provides an excellent vantage point to admire the scenery, although parking can be challenging on weekends. Additionally, there are picnic facilities and drop toilets available for visitors' convenience.
Beautiful. Loud. Agnes Falls is well worth the drive. Hiking is so close to carpark and they also have picnic tables and unisex toilets. Shooting from high up makes all the difference and watching the sunrise through the trees and lighting up the water is the best way to see these falls. Getting here early will ensure that you are not disturbed.

A really beautiful picnic spot, definitely worth a stop. Easy walk down to a viewing area for the waterfalls. Good flow all year round. It's a unique location, with farmland surrounding this beautiful gorge and constant water supply. Clean drop toilets and nice picnic benches.

Raw power after rains. Lovely picnic spot, and decently maintained drop toilet at the carpark. A fairly gentle (uphill and downhill) walk to the viewing platform.

Dog friendly place. Easy access to see the fall. But the trees might block some of the views. Not a big deal though. Again, if you have a drone, it might be helpful to take a better shot.

We came right before the sunset, captured the last little gold ray to see the waterfall in wet season. It’s said that platypus are often seen, but we only caught a suspicious quick shadow in the middle of the river. It’s a beautiful place for light strolling.

Ski & Snowboard Areas
Mount Baw Baw is a popular resort peak known for its skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and cycling opportunities. The mountain has a subpolar oceanic climate with heavy snowfall in winter and frequent cloud cover. The resort is self-contained with its own power generation, water treatment facilities, and snowmaking capabilities. It offers walking tracks that connect to the Baw Baw National Park and provides a great experience for both winter and summer seasons.
Mount Baw Baw is a solid choice for entry-level skiing—I did my first ski trip here and found it a great place to learn. The slopes are manageable and not too intimidating, although they are on the shorter side, with runs lasting about 4–5 minutes. Still, it’s a fun and accessible option for a day trip or a first-time snow experience.
Teo N — Google review
Closest resort to Melbourne. Great for day trippers, kids as well as seasoned skiers. Dingos on-site to visit. Best to purchase mountain entry online before to ensure you get on site at peak times.

Mount Baw Baw is a wonderful destination for ski lovers, even though the snow season has ended. While there may not be snow at the moment, the area still offers the charm of the ski slopes, the alpine atmosphere, and beautiful natural surroundings. The mountain is peaceful, with fresh air, scenic trails, and plenty of opportunities to relax and take in the views. It is a great place to enjoy outdoor activities, connect with nature, and imagine the excitement of skiing during the season. The facilities are well maintained, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Even without snow, visiting Baw Baw is still a rewarding experience, and it makes you want to come back as soon as the snow returns. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves the mountains, winter sports, and spending time in a calm natural environment.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Mount Baw Baw for a hiking trip, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable outdoor experiences I’ve had. From the moment we started, the atmosphere was refreshing – the crisp mountain air, the lush greenery, and the peaceful surroundings instantly made the journey feel special. Hiking here is not just about physical activity; it’s about connecting with nature in its purest form. The trails are well-marked and offer something for everyone, whether you’re an experienced hiker or just looking to enjoy a relaxing walk in the mountains. Along the way, we came across stunning viewpoints that offered breathtaking panoramic scenes of the surrounding landscapes. The combination of towering trees, fresh mountain scents, and bird sounds created a sense of calm that is hard to find in busy city life. What truly stood out were the views at different elevations – each stop revealed a new perspective that was even more beautiful than the last. It was the kind of experience that makes you pause, take a deep breath, and truly appreciate nature. The hike wasn’t just exercise; it was uplifting for the mind and soul. Overall, Mount Baw Baw is a destination I would highly recommend to anyone who loves nature, hiking, or simply wants a break from the everyday routine. The experience was incredible from start to finish, and I left feeling refreshed, inspired, and already looking forward to visiting again.

This was my third visit to Mount Baw Baw, and once again it did not disappoint! Every trip here has been a wonderful experience, and this time was no different. It’s always such a pleasure coming back the atmosphere is welcoming, the staff are friendly, and the whole place feels like the perfect getaway for families. We had an amazing time with the kids plenty of fun activities to keep them entertained, safe, and happy. The snow was beautiful, and everything was well organised, making it easy to relax and just enjoy the day. Mount Baw Baw continues to be one of our favourite destinations, and I know we’ll be coming back again. Highly recommended for families, kids, or anyone looking for a great experience in the snow. ❄️

Totally a scam. Ruined by poor management. Went there in mid-July, had very good snow but they closed most of the lifts! From what the staff said, their manager wanted to save budget so they rather cut the staff and only open 1 lift which only 100 meter long…
Snow T — Google review
Over priced. Nature should be free, not $65 plus $50 snow chain hire. The poorly fitted chains damaged my vehicle by scratching my alloy rims and busting my coolant tank. In the over crowded cafeteria we waited an hour for terrible over priced food. This place is a legal money hungry scam. My daughter had a great time in the snow, but they take advantage of it for $. Go somewhere else that is free!!

FANTASTIC!!! So much variety of things to see in different rooms and buildings. It far exceeded my expectations. Suitable for all walks of life whether you’re a Holden enthusiast or anyone interested in Australian History and Automobiles. Full credit to the original owners Vision and putting his collection and extras for the public to get the opportunity to see. Volunteers are terrific 👍$20 and two hours well spent. You could easily spend longer but I was fortunate enough to go first thing in the morning as it was quiet. It’s that good I would definitely return.

The best car museum for Holden's in the country. I am a die hard Holden man till I die and I thought I knew alot about Holden but really i knew so little of the history or thier wartime work . They had so many rare one off cars there. Excellent media presentations too to see every step in the assembly of a VE commodore from start to finish was fascinating. Its an all day experience to see it all and to do it justice

First went there 2 years ago could not fault the place. Went there about 1 weeks ago I asked for chicken schnitzel with vegetables my wife asked for no batter on the fish and vegetables after 15 minutes meals came out she had better on the fish we sent it back as thay made a mistake it came back 15 minutes later with no batter and with salad but the time I got to eat my meal it was cold would not go back here again it's better value at the pub meals were very small and for $27 for the fish and $24 for the schnitzel but the garlic bread was and cheese was good and it would have been nice to have more chips except for one little Cup. To their credit they gave a $20 credit for next time sad thing is I don't think there will be a next time.

Steavenson Falls is a must-visit attraction in Marysville, offering a stunning 84-meter drop waterfall. Visitors can access the falls from the car park with a short 700-meter walk to the viewing platform. For those seeking more adventure, there's an option to hike from the town center, which takes around 30 minutes to an hour depending on fitness levels. The area also features camping grounds and trails for outdoor enthusiasts.
A must visit place, 84m falls located just 350m from the parking lot(if you're lucky enough to get a parking near the entrance 😉), we couldn't try the longest hike since we were with a toddler. Very convenient walk if you want to visit the bottom of the fall, have to take a steep climb to reach the top of the fall. Finding a parking spot wasn't easy for us since it was on a public holiday. Toilet facilities were ok. Can take the pram up to certain point and have to leave it if you want to witness the falls from the best viewpoint. Swimming is strictly prohibited since the water is used for town water supply.
Ahamed M — Google review
Easy walk from the car park. Only 700 meters. There are harder longer options available that are very scenic. It's good to see the progress of recovery after the 2009 fires, but will take many years for the trees to grow back to the same grandeur. A visit at night is highly recommended, where the falls and the paths are lit from the small 13kw hydro electric plant on site.
Walter — Google review
Magic short walk for the family up the Falls. Steep in sections, but a well kept track. Toilet facilities too. Nice and close to town for a lunch stop after the walk. Loads of options there. Also a great park for the kids too.
Christian C — Google review
Always an amazing experience. I have been to the falls 4-5 times and it never fails to bring a smile on my face. If you can do a bit of hike you should go to the top of the fall as the experience there is really amazing and the views to love for. However if you are kids or don’t have much time then just a short walk to the viewing platform and you would love the fall.
Richa N — Google review
Best waterfall we have been too! There is about 20 car spaces in the car park, my advice is go early otherwise you will be parking further down the road and walking more. Toilet on site and only about 2 minute walk on flat ground from car park to viewing platforms to see the waterfall. There are several other trails for those who want the extra adventure, we took one to the top of the waterfall, about 15min up and 15min down, take care on the muddy track and wear appropriate footwear. The sound, the views, the smell all just incredible, our 9yr old handled it very easy and we saw some elderly people also doing the hike to the top. If you have read this than you need to be in your car already and going :)
Brendan — Google review
It's so beautiful here , the creek with its clear water running from the waterfall, the nature sounds it's a very peaceful place to visit . It is about a 45 min hike if you're going all the way to the top of the waterfall.

Bruno's Art and Sculpture Garden, situated on Falls Road near the town center, is a fascinating and distinct destination. For a cash payment of $10 per adult, visitors can explore the gardens adorned with approximately 160 sculptures. The amount of effort invested in this popular attraction is evident from its meticulous design. Notably, it is located amidst a lush rainforest environment, adding an enchanting touch to the experience.
Amazing place to visit. Adults $10 wk days, $15 wk ends. Children cheaper. Little ones free I think. Take as long as you want to walk around garden. I took an hour or more. Sit and chill in there, or speed through. But I wouldn't speed through. You'd miss too much. 193 sculptures, some hidden in trees etc. Highly recommend. Xx

Bruno is a busy man!! I first came here with my family years and years ago, not long after the Black Saturday Fires. Bruno was in the progress of rebuilding his beautiful sculpture garden. I have returned in 2025 with my partner, and we were both so impressed with how he has recreated the garden of sculptures. It is absolutely stunning. The sculptures are incredibly detailed and there are hundreds! You’ll find Bruno in the gallery of paintings, chatting to each and every guest or wandering through the garden to find other guests he may have missed. I loved hearing his story of rebuilding and repairing all the sculptures after the fires. You can see his wit, humour and resilience reflected throughout.

Amazing! This is a must see! My partner and I saw this on a whim and my gosh, it did not disappoint. We travelled 2.5hrs to get here and it took our breath away. We took our time to take it all in and spent a few hours here. Amazing value for $30 entry. I am so impressed by not only the care made into every sculpture but the caretaking of the entire property. I can understand how much work goes into this place, every tree planted, every hose done up, and the long hours of sculpting. But your work is seen, it’s moving, it’s beautiful and enjoyed. I also loved seeing the photos that showed the damage done by a previous fire- it truly tells a story. We would have bought a few pieces of art inside but maybe we’ll come back on payday❤️ Thank you so much for today. ❤️

A must visit place if you’re driving along the Black Spur Drive / Yarra Ranges or stay over in Marysville. It’s only 2 mins drive from township, the owner couple welcomed us with detailed instructions and their beautiful crafted garden, which is also their residence. You can easily spent 2 hr here, you can find sculpture are well-blended into the nature landscape around it, and use of recyclable materials to form parts is another fun. Best about this place - it’s growing! The owner making new sculptures as we walk bypass the in-house studio, which I’m sure more additions are coming. It’s sad to see the photo of damage by the Black Friday Bushfire, and glad to see the owners and nature has bounced back from the tragic event.

This afternoon/evening, I attended the Southern Lights Festival held at Coal Creek Community Park with the 1Step Support Group. It was very cold and wet with light rain and a top of 10 degrees. It was a sold out event meaning there were hundreds of people there. The Coal Creek Community Park is a large area with several historical buildings and shops plus rotundas, footbridges, a creek, a lake and the old railway station. The lighting displays were very impressive with a mixture of bright string lights and backing floodlights highlighting the trees and vegetation. There were many different attractions tonight including live bands, food trucks, market stalls, fire pits, a giant bonfire and fireworks displays. There was so much to take in but I ended up doing several laps of the park. We only stayed until just after 7:30pm when the first fireworks display went off. Overall, despite the wet weather, it was still a very enjoyable event with lots to see and experience.

What a truly magical place this is. The buildings are so authentic and the staff/volunteers are terrific. We were fortunate enough to meet the charming and beautiful gentleman Perry who mans the General store. You would swear you stepped back into the late 1800’s. His enthusiasm and knowledge are worth their weight in gold. This place is great for the young and old. On entry the kids are given food to feed the ducks near the lake. Do yourself a huge favour and visit this amazing tourist destination. Entry is free but please leave a donation in appreciation.
Julie M — Google review
It's like a slightly understated version of Sovereign Hill, and a free version, too. This is already a huge plus in my books, and a huge reason why I prefer it over Sovereign Hill. In fact, because it's free, by default it earns itself 5 out of 5 stars. And it just so happens to be a great spot for photography as well. In fact, compared to other places, it's not a super touristy place. At least for now, lol. But because it's quiet, it's a relaxing place to take your family or a few friends. They have a little lake with ducks, quite a few older buildings with interiors that you can access. Not all houses/stores let you freely explore each room, but they do have galleries where you can view or take photos from the outside. Probably one of Victoria’s best-kept secrets. Highly recommend.

The distillery's focus revolves around their four pillars: great copper stills, pristine Yarra Valley water, traditional and exotic botanicals, and an abundance of love. Visitors can enjoy the modern tasting room offering cocktails and snacks or participate in one of their gin masterclasses.
Loved every moment of the gin tasting , it happened to be world Gin day 14th June — It was a perfect mix of fun and learning. The selection was diverse, the flavors were fantastic, and the hosts were knowledgeable and friendly. I discovered new favorites and gained a real appreciation for the craft behind each bottle. Highly recommend it to any gin lover! 🍸

Four Pillars Gin was not even in our original plan, but we were already in the mood after champagne and wine stops, so I thought, why not complete the circle with some gin? I am not exactly a gin person, but I have to say, this stop made me rethink that a little. The gin was great, yes, but can we talk about the duck pate? I had it after a full cheese fondue lunch at Chandon, and still managed to finish the entire jar by myself. It was creamy, flavourful and went so well with their crackers. Honestly, I would go back just for that pate. For the drinks, I ordered the gin tasting set which came with four different types of gin, served with tonic water on the side so you could mix to your liking. I got to try a few variations, but the one that really stood out for me was the Shiraz Gin. It had a nice depth and smoothness that I did not expect. Easy to drink and very well balanced. The place itself has a cool industrial chic vibe, very open and relaxed. Staff were friendly and made the tasting experience fun without being too formal. It did not feel rushed and we got to enjoy everything at our own pace. If you are in the area, even if you are not a gin lover, I say give it a try. You might leave with a new favourite and definitely with a full stomach.

Popped in on Friday around 5 p.m. and the place was absolutely buzzing. Happy hour kicked off at 6 with great drink specials, amazing cocktails, and a full house. The yuzu gin was incredible and the yuzu sour cocktail was even better. The staff were fun and friendly, and the whole place had a great energy. They also run a happy hour dinner on Friday nights, which looked awesome. Definitely the spot to be and probably my number one pick when visiting Healesville.

I had no idea that Four Pillars Gin originated in Melbourne! We stopped by after visiting the Redwood Forest to do a gin tasting and ended up learning a lot about the gin-making process. It was fascinating to discover how different spices are infused to create unique flavours. We also got to rate several distinct gin varieties and try some cocktails made with their different gins — each with fruity, coffee, chocolate, or smoky notes. The experience was really enjoyable, easy to access, and they even offer a membership with some great deals.

A nice place for an afternoon chill with friends or family over gin and some bar food. A small distillery to see the making of the Four Pillar gins. They have a small restaurant that let u taste their gin and cocktails (the cocktail flight is a must), and enjoy some finger food/ snacks. There is also a small shop to buy some merchandise and of course their famous gin to bring home.

Had an explosion of flavour for lunch before completing a gin tasting of 7 of Four Pillars finest Gins. The whole experience was absolutely amazing thanks to a charismatic young gentlemen by the name of Cooper. He educated us about all the traditional spices and infusions in gin making and what sets Four Pillars aside from the rest. His passion and love for what he does, along with his endless knowledge made for a wonderful gin filled afternoon. Cannot recommend Four Pillars highly enough for a visit for foodies and gin lovers. Simply a MUST when in Healesville hopefully you will be lucky enough to meet Cooper the legend himself. Four Pillars also have a nonalcoholic range which is also in a league of its own compared to other nonalcoholic spirits. Full of flavour and just as delicious.

My wife took me to Four Pillars for my 35th birthday and I have now fallen in love with Gin thanks to them 😍 Amazing place. Was served by David who gave us a wonderful experience with so many smiles, stories, and samples. Every Gin I tired was beauitful. Strongly recommend visiting the distillery. I'll be back soon I know it. Shop at the front is well stocked and very good prices.

This place was fun. Well worth the drive and if you’re a gin lover like me, it’s a must try. We had the G&T paddle and discovered a new gin, olive leaf, which is scrumptious so I’ll be going back and getting a couple more bottles. The snacks were good too. We had the fries and a tiramisu dip…so so good.

The De Bortoli Wines Yarra Valley Cellar Door and Restaurant offers a modern Italian menu in an elegant dining room with picturesque vineyard views. On the third Sunday of the month, visitors can explore the Yarra Valley Regional Food Group Farmers Market nearby before indulging in wine tastings at the historic cellar door. The venue also features Matt's Bar for snacks and a view-blessed dining room for top-notch fare.
What a wonderful place for a 3-course lunch! My wife and I had an amazing date booked for her birthday, where we were privately flown in by helicopter to this stunning spot. The scenery was breathtaking, and the interior was very classy yet quaint and cosy. Once we sat down, we had the charcuterie board to share, steak with crispy potatoes for main, and a cheeseboard to finish things off. Every mouthful was delicious, and the wines paired beautifully. 10/10 highly recommended!

What a great experience! We stopped by for a tasting, and the lovely lady who served us was so knowledgeable and friendly, walking us through everything. The wine is absolutely delicious, so moreish, and very reasonably priced for the quality. We loved that you can also buy by the glass, grab a platter, and sit outside to enjoy the beautiful grounds. The excellent service definitely made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Best winery that I have visited so far in terms of wine tasting at the cellar door, food at restaurant and customer service. We had a visit last week in a group of 4 plus a dog. Lady at the cellar door was very knowledgable and generous, we were offered even more than 4 wines to taste which is what you would usually get there when doing wine tasting. Food upstairs was excellent, fresh, tasty and very well presented. Gentleman at the restaurant was also very friendly and welcoming with good knowledge around both food and wines they had on the menu. We had the best time at this place sitting outside with our dog pouring wine and enjoying deliciuos food. We hope good service continus and we will definitely go back for more visits and have already introduced this winery to couple of friends.

Yering Station Winery, established in 1838, is a luxurious destination featuring a blend of modern and historic buildings. The property was acquired by the Rathbone family in 1996 and is home to Yarrabank. The winery complex handles Yarrabank sparkling and Yering Station table wines, making it a focal point of the Yarra Valley. Additionally, the historic Chateau Yering offers luxury accommodation and fine dining next door.
We got married at Yering Station in 2012 and it was spectacular. Could not recommend it highly enough. But today we went back for lunch to show our kids this incredible place 13 years after our wedding. The meal was amazing and the serves generous. The view and atmosphere are stunning. We had so much fun just hanging out after lunch - it was 5pm so we were pleasantly surprised to discover that the cellar door was open until 6pm. We went in for a tasting. WOW! The wines were so much better than we remembered, but even more wonderful was the experience. The beautiful staff not only made us feel welcome, they completely spoiled us with our tasting, bringing out a bottle of Chardonnay from the year we were married to taste then really engaging with us talking all things wine and life. The wines were delicious, the service was even better. Obviously we signed up for the wine family (which was more than worth it!). Thank you Yering Station for making my Mother’s Day celebration so special this year x

Wine tasting and lunch at Yering Station was one of the highlights of our Melbourne trip. I was delighted to try some delicious red wines and enjoy a wonderful lunch there. The beautiful surroundings, elegant décor, and friendly staff make it an outstanding restaurant and winery. Highly recommend.
Chin T — Google review
I was really excited for this one. We went for the wine tasting on a beautiful sunny day, the kind of weather that makes you want to be outdoors enjoying the view. Unfortunately, the tasting itself takes place indoors in a fairly dim room with very little natural light, which felt like a real shame. With such gorgeous surroundings outside, it seemed like a missed opportunity to create something special. During the tasting, four different staff members poured for us. Three of them asked what we had already been served, which made the whole experience feel a bit disorganized and not as smooth or welcoming as I was hoping for. The wine pours also felt quite small -more like a sip than a proper tasting- and I think most people would agree after seeing the photo I’ve attached. Inside, the décor follows a pop-art theme with Andy Warhol replicas. Normally, I appreciate that style, but here it felt completely unrelated to wine, wine tasting, or the heritage of the vineyard. Instead of enhancing the atmosphere, it actually worked against the rustic, old-world vibe that the place itself naturally carries. That said, the outdoor area is stunning. The grounds are well kept, with a beautiful grassy area out front and a lovely lookout point that really makes you stop and take it in. It honestly left me thinking how perfect it would be if the wine tasting were moved outdoors, perhaps with a small kiosk or bar set up in the middle of the lawn. With the sunshine, scenery, and a glass in hand, that would transform the experience into something unforgettable.

You can't fault much here. The service, food and atmosphere is exceptional. However, there was a fault in the steak option that I paid extra for on top of what my parents had already paid for a 3-course meal. It might not seem like a big deal, but since I asked specifically for "true medium rare", not medium, which it ended up exactly being on my plate, that was disappointing, being such a high quality piece of meat. Other than that, it was an amazing lunch, and had me bursting at the seams. I could have just had the pork belly entree and pistachio dessert and been satisfied.

Had a great meal at Yering station. Great service beautiful views great menu and flavours. Everyone enjoyed every dish. Loved my prawn entree. The fish main was perfect. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Front of house Trixie was very professional. Wines were great. Deserts were delicious. Highly recommend will def return.

We had a very odd and dissapointing experience at the restaurant. We had booked lunch using a luxury escape voucher which included a main, choice of wine and two shared sides. The only positive was how well cooked the meats were and how tasty the wine was. Other than that, our experience was very strange. The strangest part or our experience was the use of potato off cuts in our roasted potato side - see picture below. I have never before seen potato fondant off cuts and bits of potato eye served to guests. It's really incomprehensible and unappetising. We ended up leaving the potato dish. The salad was also quite terrible - it literally looked like a Coles pre chopped salad mix that was topped with a few sprigs of dill and some goats cheese. The leaves were barely dressed and very plain tasting. Onto the main meals, which ended up being quite odd as well. The cuts of meat were very tasty and well seasoned. The biggest negative was the random pastry basket served with the pork and holding chopped apple. The basket was pale, undercooked and soggy. It didn't really add anything to the dish. The duck dish was also a bit odd with an undercooked cannelloni filled with pulled duck and cabbage. This was bland and underseasoned also. While both dishes looked pretty, they left much to be desired and not worth the cost or effort. Overall, we would not be back and we wouldn't recommend to others. There are much better choices in the Yarra Valley (and much better luxury escape deals as well). Be warned.

Beautiful Vinyard with celler door and restaurant. Simple elegant feels with vase space. We went to cellar door to get a cheese platter and a glass of wine as we arrived too early for our lunch booking. There are a small number of outside table for you to enjoy the cheese board and wine and it was super delicious. The celler door staff was super friendly and professional, compared to my recent visit to Pt.Leo celler door where staff would just ignored you. We then moved to the restaurant after we finished the cheese board. Lovely open space in the restaurant area with glass wall from floor to ceiling open to the landscape! I was going to do the 3 courses and finish with dessert to share with my partner but the food size was really substantial I was way too full and couldn't even finish my fish main. 😞 My entree of scallops with bacon was so good, a little too much of pumpkin. The barramundi with eels mashed was very tasty as well, but also feel like there are too many things on the plates. Overall I enjoyed my food. My husband entree was great but the main is a little bland. Definitely recommend the cellar door for wine tasting and cheese platter for chill out outdoor on a good sunny day 😎🌞

My now husband, Francis, and I recently had our wedding at Kinglake Forest on 8 March 2025. Our experience with the staff at Kinglake, especially Donna, was incredible! As we all know, weddings can be overwhelming and at times stressful, but working with the team at Forest Weddings felt like a breeze. They made the process of wedding planning fun and enjoyable. We can look back on it fondly, and that to us is priceless. Donna was extremely organised. Being organised people ourselves, we felt reassured knowing that the team had our back. Their communication was seamless and clear at all times. We are so grateful to be able to look back on the wedding planning process and smile. The wedding day was the best day of our lives! Donna worked with us perfectly, ensuring we were comfortable and driving us up and down with the buggy. She made us feel calm and relaxed with her positive attitude. We knew we had made the right decision when we chose Kinglake Forest as our wedding venue. Sometimes, it is not even about the place—it is the people and the team you trust that make the difference. We will remember this moment for the rest of our lives. Thank you, Donna, Ben, and the Forest Weddings team! We know you are no longer hosting weddings, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours. Regardless of what comes next, we have no doubt the staff will thrive in whatever they choose to do.

Water park
Funfields Themepark, situated in Whittlesea just 40 kilometers from Melbourne's city center, has been a beloved attraction since its establishment in 1985. The park offers an array of activities including waterslides, go-karts, miniature golf, and bumper boats. Entry tickets grant access to rides as well as a water play area for kids and barbecue facilities. With 25 rides and attractions, visitors can enjoy a day filled with adrenaline-pumping fun.
Funfields is a confident establishment that caters to the young and old if all ages. There’s a massive area for picnics and even bbqs, an area that can be reserved for a fee so you don’t need to brave the elements. There’s also VIP huts and seating dotted around every area in the park, it’s definitely a must do on a busy weekend so that you don’t have to find bring the whole camping set. On to the rides, majority of the rides are water based, from a simple water slide to an water thunderous ride for 4 people built for speed and adrenaline. On a hot day there’s a line however not hours long so definitely bearable. Most seated rides are part of the entry ticket however most will run roughly 2 mins and yes I have timed it. Their food option is also very decent and not a rip off. Although service is efficient but somehow I feel a vending machine will suffice for drinks. There’s plenty of lockers but get in early to get the bigger sized one if you plan to roam around all day. There’s definitely enough rides and things to do for the full day so it’s a good way to spend a whole day and for burning off that excess holiday energy and when going to the beach is not an option.

It had been a very long time since my last visit to the water park, so I wasn't sure what to expect. However, this time was truly more fun, absolutely fantastic, and genuinely amazing! The new addition of the Lazy River, bumper cars and VIP Huts really add a whole new dimension to this park ! Sights & Landmarks
The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is an iconic sports venue with a rich history dating back to 1853. It has been the main stadium for the 1956 Summer Olympics and is known as the home of Australian football. With a capacity of 100,000 people, it's one of Melbourne's top tourist destinations. The MCG offers daily tours that provide visitors with insights into its storied past and significance in Australian sports history.
Visiting the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the first time was truly a memorable experience. The sheer history of this iconic stadium is impressive, and the guided tour brings it to life in a unique way. Our guide, Jerry, was knowledgeable and engaging, making the 60–70 minute tour informative and enjoyable. The tour takes you deep inside the MCG, including exclusive areas like the players' seating boxes, and members' lounges. One of the highlights was the bird’s eye view from the top, which gives you a real sense of how massive the ground is. There are a few facilities on site including a small café and a gift shop for souvenirs. Parking can be tricky since it’s not available inside the stadium, but we were lucky to find street parking easily on a weekday. For cricket fans, timing your visit is key. The stadium often hosts football games, so the pitch is not always set up for cricket. The best time to experience it in its full cricketing glory is during the Boxing Day Test match around Christmas. Overall, it’s a must visit spot in Melbourne, rich with sporting history and atmosphere especially if you are a cricket fan.

Experiencing the history and grandeur of the renowned sporting arena was truly remarkable. The comprehensive tour provided an intimate look at the stadium's iconic features, including the hallowed grounds and player facilities. Engaging with the rich heritage and significant moments that have transpired within its walls was captivating. The informative insights into the venue's evolution and its place in sports history were enlightening. Overall, the visit left a lasting impression of admiration for the venue's significance.

Visiting the Melbourne Cricket Ground was truly a memorable experience. The stadium’s sheer size and historic significance immediately stood out—it’s not just a sporting venue, but a landmark filled with tradition and pride. Walking through the gates, I could feel the energy and legacy of countless legendary matches that have taken place here. The guided tour was well-organized and gave fascinating insights into the stadium’s history, the players, and the cultural importance of cricket in Australia. Standing in the stands and imagining the roar of over 100,000 fans was simply breathtaking. The MCG shop was also a highlight, offering a wide range of memorabilia and merchandise, perfect for any cricket lover. Overall, the visit was both exciting and inspiring. Whether you’re a cricket enthusiast, a sports fan, or just someone who appreciates history and culture, the MCG is an absolute must-visit in Melbourne

My daughter and I, visiting from England, had a great time on the tour of the MCG. Expertly guided by club member Anne, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience on the eve of the AFL Grand Final. As we anticipated, the changing rooms and Long Room were out of bounds so close to the big event, but these minor disappointments were soon forgotten as the rest of the tour was so informative and inspiring. Should you have the opportunity to also visit the adjoining museum you must do so, as this is a phenomenal experience. Many thanks to Bill, the very helpful volunteer who entertained me here. A real highlight of our trip to the city.

Museums
Nestled in the historic Carlton area just north of Melbourne's CBD, the expansive 70,000-square-meter Melbourne Museum offers a deep dive into the city's rich history and diverse culture. With eight galleries spread across six floors, visitors can explore Aboriginal artifacts at the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, encounter Australia's unique wildlife including a massive blue whale skeleton and legendary racehorse Phar Lap's preserved body, and take guided tours to uncover hidden stories of Melbourne.
We booked our tickets online which helped us skip the queue. Reached around 10 am when it was still quiet, though it did get busier as the day went on. My son is very curious, and he thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the museum. The Dinosaur section was definitely a major highlight for him. The Rainforest section was another favourite - walking among real flora and trees inside a museum felt amazing! Other sections like bugs & insects, soils, and the Ice Age were equally fascinating. We spent about 4–5 hours exploring everything at a relaxed pace. We had lunch at the Market Café inside the museum, which was quite convenient. Afterward, we enjoyed some time at the beautiful Carlton Gardens just outside - a perfect way to wrap up the visit. Overall, a fantastic experience for both kids and adults. Highly recommend spending half a day here!

Melbourne Museum is an absolute gem! We visited after lunch with my son, and even in just a few hours, we had an incredible time. This is a place where kids (and adults!) can learn so much in a fun and engaging way — you could easily spend a full day exploring. The dinosaur exhibition was a highlight for us, packed with fascinating displays and information that really capture children’s curiosity. We also loved the insect area, which was both educational and surprisingly fun to explore. Everything is well-presented, interactive, and perfect for sparking young minds. Adults tickets are $15, and kids go free, making it fantastic value for families. I recommend booking online to avoid the queues. We’ll definitely be back for a full-day visit next time!

Pretty cool place tbh. The Melbourne Museum is huge — like, you could easily get lost in there. Loved the dinosaur section and the First Peoples exhibit, super interesting and well done. There’s also a kids area that looked fun even if you’re not a kid lol. Some parts felt a bit dated though, and a few displays could use more interactive stuff or better lighting. But overall, it’s a chill spot to spend a few hours and learn a bunch of random cool things. Would def recommend if you’ve got some free time in Melbourne.

I took my granddaughter to the Halloween at the Museum on the afternoon of Oct31st. We came a little early so we had to wait to enter. It was such an exciting event for my granddaughter…and for me. Kids in costume as well as the adults. The activities for the kids were great and we enjoyed looking at the gallery in the dark. It was fantastic. Parking in the basement was handy. Staff were friendly but not quite knowledgeable of the wheres and whats that night. Still, I will recommend this museum and this particular event. Its a must see and must attend!

We had the best experience at the museum. We went there when there was the Lego Exhibition on Star Wars - the creation were insanely good! There was also a rainforest in the museum - we went in to have a look. We saw the T-Rex show at the iMax theatre too. We had so, so much fun. Absolutely recommend a visit - more than worth the day and money.

This review is only about current special exhibition: Treasures of the Viking Age -The Galloway Hoard. The Galloway Hoard discovered in 2014 had 100 items, a small but very significant find. However, what is exhibited here is a lot less, museum blurb states about 90 pieces but it does look significantly less. The items are spread out in sections - entrances like Viking doorways & "padded" with massive graphics via video & static projections, albeit immersively displayed & easy to digest. The superstars of the Hoard - the small silver vessel with lid, the tiny crystal jar covered with elaborate goldwork & one more item - are all 3D-printed replicas. The reason - too fragile to be transported. I really liked the presentation & background on how the hoards were buried, the trade & marauding routes traversed by Viking warlords that enabled procurement of precious metals from far away lands along the Silk Route. But disingenuous inclusion of other discoveries is not necessary. I would rather hear more about why hoarding was so prevalent 1000 years ago or did I miss this bit? There is enough original intricate pieces that makes this exhibition worthwhile - artefacts like the Silver Cross with the fine spiral chain, intricate armbands (make great copies for olde fashion wrist watches!) & the elaborate brooches. But, but (& the reason for my 3 star review) - Where are the replicas of Vikings - both men & women, depicting how these wonderful ancient antiquities were adorned/worn? This would have really showcased the the wealth of the warlords & their treasured heirlooms..✨️✨️

Sights & Landmarks
The Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne is the largest war memorial in Victoria, serving as a tribute to Australian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the World Wars. The shrine hosts over 120 ceremonies and commemorative services annually, making it an active venue for honoring heroes. Its location offers stunning views of Melbourne city and the bay area. The solemn atmosphere and architectural design resembling ancient Greece create a poignant experience for visitors.
A beautifully designed and deeply moving memorial that honours those who served. The architecture is striking, with panoramic views of Melbourne from the upper balcony. Inside, the exhibits are thoughtfully curated, offering both history and reflection. The Eternal Flame and the Ray of Light ceremony add a solemn touch. Peaceful gardens surround the shrine, making it a place of both remembrance and quiet contemplation. A must-visit for anyone in Melbourne.

It has been years since I was last at the Shrine and I cannot remember it looking so well kept and iconic. This area is such a wonderful part of Melbourne to walk around and to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for Australia. The trees around the Shrine are dedicated to various Battalions and units throughout the ADF history. Thank you so much to everyone involved in the maintenance of one of Australia's most sacred areas.

A Profoundly Moving and Beautiful Experience The Shrine of Remembrance is one of the most peaceful and powerful places in Melbourne. The architecture is stunning, the views of the city from the balcony are breathtaking, and the exhibitions inside are informative and emotionally touching. It’s not just a monument, it’s a tribute to history, sacrifice, and remembrance. The eternal flame, the sanctuary, and the hourly Ray of Light ceremony were deeply moving. Highly recommend visiting, whether you’re a local or a tourist. It’s a perfect place to reflect, learn, and pay respects. Free entry and beautifully maintained grounds make it even more worthwhile.

The Shrine of Remembrance is far more than just a monument, it is a moving experience and one of Melbourne's most important landmarks. Visitors should be sure to explore the Galleries of Remembrance beneath the structure. These galleries house exhibitions featuring artifacts, personal stories, and interactive displays. The experience is both educational and emotional. A climb to the Balcony is highly recommended, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Melbourne skyline.

A beautiful and peaceful place that I often visit. The architecture is impressive, and the view from the top gives a great look over the Melbourne skyline. The lush gardens around it add to the serene atmosphere. It’s a war memorial built to honour all Australians who have served and continue to serve in wars and peacekeeping missions. There’s also a museum inside with interesting displays and personal stories. It’s a place where you could sit for hours, switch off, and reflect. Definitely worth a visit.

It is an amazing place to visit, to learn the history of war. You’d better allow 3 hours to visit the place. There are street parking available that peak hours $4/ hour and off-peak $2/ hour.

I were surprised there is no charge for visiting Shrine of Remembrance. Donations are accepted. Great place to visit and learn about Australian military involvement around the world 🌎 The architecture is impressive and the view of the city is breathtaking. Thank you all who sacrifice to keep us safe. Peace be on earth 🌎 🙏

The beach itself is alright. Not the prettiest but a decent place if you want to cycle or jog along this beach. I would imagine it will be a much better experience if the sky wasn't gloomy :') anyway I came here for the wild penguins and this place is convenient with tram. Easily accessible

Flinders Street Railway Station is a true gem nestled in the heart of Melbourne, boasting a stunning yellow facade and an iconic dome that has captured the hearts of locals and visitors alike since its opening in 1909. This architectural marvel, with its grand arched entrance and Romanesque Revival style, serves as both a bustling transport hub and a beloved meeting point for generations.
Flinders street railway station is an absolute icon of Melbourne. Known for its spectacular architecture, this train station is a landmark and a central hub for trains. A lot of trams and trains pass by, and through the station day, after day, after day. Buy hey, it's a station, and that's what it's made for. It's a very busy and packed station, so try not to miss your train. Anyways, what I'm saying is, it's a great station. It just is. Would like to see again.

Could have been more cleaner. Could have more seating for the eateries People literally sit on the stairs and sit near the toilets to eat food. So hard to watch that. Passengers are paying lot of money it’s not like they have a choice. Instead of just putting money on the restorations spend tiny portion on customers needs as well But I must say such a beautiful view from outside

Close to our accommodation, beautiful heritage architecture, train station, shops .. very busy place .. street car pass by .

We visited this iconic landmark in Melbourne. The architecture is classic and a nice place for photos. However, inside the station is all business and we could not get in without a train ticket. There are some food stalls and cafes just along the side of the train station.

Huge station with friendly staff and a lot of shops. I visited this station on Australia Day. There was a big crowd in front of the station but the police and security staff kept everything in order. This is historically building. It worths to visit even if you don’t use train. There is beautiful cathedral in front of the station. Good place to visit too.

Melbourne Central is a bustling multilevel space with over 300 retailers, offering a wide array of Australian and international fashion brands, dining options, cafes, pubs, bars, beauty shops, and a world-class cinema. The iconic Coops Shot Tower stands tall under a glass-domed roof and is a popular spot for visitors to catch the hourly performance of the Australian song Waltzing Matilda.
Melbourne in autumn is a great place to explore. Most of the attractions are easy to reach either by foot or local transport, such as trains and trams. A mix of old historical and new towering buildings, multiple parks with autumn colors, cultural exhibitions, and, last but not least, food! Lots of restaurants, cafés, and fast food outlets are located within reach. But be careful, as it can be an expensive vacation, especially concerning food and entertainment.

It is a big shopping centre in the city. There are many shops, cafes, and restaurants. The glass dome with the old shot tower inside is nice to see. You can get there by train or tram, but it can be busy. It is a good place to shop, eat, and spend time.

Visited Melbourne Central and loved the energy of the place. It’s more than just a shopping centre — it feels like the heart of the city, filled with cafés, restaurants, fashion stores, and small boutiques all under one roof. The mix of modern design and the historic Coop’s Shot Tower inside gives it a unique Melbourne character. The food court has great options, from quick bites to quality coffee, and the layout makes it easy to explore. It’s also well-connected, sitting right above the train station and close to trams, so it’s super convenient for locals and visitors alike. There’s always something happening — live music, pop-up shops, or art installations — which makes every visit feel a little different. A perfect spot to shop, eat, or just experience Melbourne’s vibrant city life.

Major shops, eateries in food court and restaurants, all in one place. Most shops open till 6pm. Do check the Lead shot tower/museum which gives a historic preview of the place. Well connected, tram on the outside, and train station at the basement.
Aishvarya V — Google review
The Coops Shot Tower was built in 1888 and used to make lead shot (small round bullets for firearms) by dropping molten lead from the top so it could form perfect spheres as it fell. It’s one of only a few surviving shot towers in Australia. When the Melbourne Central Shopping Centre was built in the early 1990s, instead of demolishing it, the developers preserved the tower and enclosed it under the large glass cone dome, now one of Melbourne’s most recognisable architectural features.
