Specialty Museums
The Ten Boom Museum in Haarlem is a significant historical site dedicated to the memory of Corrie ten Boom, who bravely sheltered Jews and resistance fighters during World War II. The museum offers guided tours throughout the day, allowing visitors to explore the onetime family home and learn about its role in providing a hiding place for persecuted individuals. Similar to the Anne Frank House, this museum provides insight into the dark days of the Holocaust but without long waiting lines.
I had an amazing time visiting the Ten Boom Museum. I booked a few weeks in advance to ensure I could visit. There is no cost to visiting, but you are welcome to make a donation. I'd highly recommend this. Since not many people can fit into the house at the same time, the tour is quiet and more personal. The guide was great and I learned a lot.
Talitha N — Google review
Had a wonderful experience here, better than anticipated. Booked online in advance, as we knew the tour capacity was small. Karin was an amazing guide, sharing the Ten Boom family's history, actions, intentions, risks, pain and heartbreak. The stories were powerful, and Karin shared them in such an authentic and moving way. Then seeing the actual hiding place, the small roof area where they could get fresh air but remain hidden, the family Bible. Absolutely worth your time and support.
Munro S — Google review
A must-see if you are interested in local history! Our guide, Mirjam, did an excellent job of explaining what life was like for the residents during the Nazi Occupation. Much more personal than the Anne Frank Museum. We visited both, but if I only had time for one, I would recommend the Ten Boom Museum. Truly an eye opening experience. Highly recommended!
Mark R — Google review
Our visit to the Ten Boom Museum did NOT disappoint! The tour guide, Maarten was friendly, knowledgeable, and surprised me with how quickly he could answer our questions. The lovely lady behind the cash was also so sweet. I LOVED my time there and so did my husband and 21 yr old daughter. Thank you very much!
Wanda M — Google review
We booked tickets months in advance which is highly recommended. The tour is very informative and you get to see the house that has been converted into a museum. The history and the story behind it was an amazing experience to learn.
Carmela L — Google review
Fantastic experience. Learned a lot about her story. Seeing the actual hiding place was quite moving and the whole presentation was very well done.
Rick G — Google review
We totally loved our visit to Corrie ten Boon's house. Our guide was personable and informative. He knew the history well, and clearly had a genuine love and affection for the Ten Boon family. He warmly told their story of personal courage and of being betrayed with the backdrop of their Christian faith. I recommend everyone to visit!
Janey S — Google review
I read The Hiding Place as a teenager so I really enjoyed getting to see the house and rooms and hear again the story of the Ten Boom family and the sacrifices they made to save Jews during WWII. Our tour guide Dinah was a wonderful host. I was surprised to learn that Corrie Ten Boom is more well know in the United States than in her home country. I would recommend for anyone in the area to learn the history of this family and hear their incredible story.

The St. Bavo Church in Haarlem

Mentioned on
18 lists
Protestant church
Sights & Landmarks
The St. Bavo Church in Haarlem is a magnificent Gothic church located in the heart of the city. It features a towering 50m-high steeple and houses the famous Muller organ, which dates back to 1738 and boasts around 5000 pipes. This ornate church has been graced by performances from renowned musicians such as Handel and Mozart, who played the impressive organ at a young age.
The cathedral is located a bit outside Haarlem’s main city center. Unfortunately, we arrived during the rain and outside of the church’s opening hours, so we couldn’t go inside. Still, from the outside, the church is large and beautifully built — an impressive sight even in gloomy weather. It's a shame we couldn’t explore the interior, but it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area during opening hours.
Thanapob B — Google review
Beautiful old church in the middle of one of the greatest city squares in the world. We spent a wonderful hour touring the church and listening to the organ being played. Both Handel and Mozart played on that same organ. The ladies in the ticket office/gift shop were incredibly kind and helpful. There are plenty of places on the square to grab a drink or a meal, all with amazing views of the church. Such a pleasant, relaxing place.
Jeff B — Google review
What an incredible sight to see! The history of the church is amazing. The floors are actually tombs with the black stone, so old it's worn. The metallic bird is from the 1400s. The organ was played my Mozart & Handel. The statue in the corner is also from the 1400s. It was originally part of the exterior, you can't really see how the weather had eroded over centuries.
Nathan A — Google review
The St. Bavo Church in Haarlem is truly stunning and a must-visit if you’re in the city. The architecture is absolutely breathtaking, both from the outside with its grand Gothic design and inside with its soaring ceilings, beautiful stained glass windows, and the famous Müller organ, which was once played by Mozart himself. The atmosphere is calm and awe-inspiring, filled with a sense of history and grandeur. Walking through the church feels like stepping back in time. The details in the stonework, wood carvings, and organ pipes are incredible. It’s not just a religious site but a cultural gem that adds so much to Haarlem’s charm. Whether you’re into history, architecture, or just love discovering beautiful places, St. Bavo is well worth a visit. Highly recommended! The St. Bavo Church in Haarlem, also known as the Grote Kerk, has a long and fascinating history. It was built on the site of older churches, with construction of the current Gothic-style building starting around 1370 and finishing by 1520. It replaced a smaller Romanesque church that had become too small and had been damaged by fire. The church was originally a Catholic cathedral, dedicated to Saint Bavo, a nobleman from the 7th century who later became a monk. It was one of the most important religious buildings in the area. In 1578, during the Protestant Reformation, Haarlem adopted Protestantism, and the church became part of the Dutch Reformed Church. Many Catholic decorations and altars were removed or painted over to reflect the simpler Calvinist style. One of the church’s most famous features is the large Müller organ, installed in 1738. It’s one of the most impressive organs in the world and was played by famous musicians like Mozart, Handel, and Mendelssohn. Today, the church is no longer used for regular religious services but is open to visitors. It hosts concerts, exhibitions, and tours, and remains one of the most important historical and cultural landmarks in Haarlem.
A F — Google review
Beautiful church and the organ inside was amazing - unfortunately my experience was marred by a prejudiced interaction with one of the attendants in the shop (where you pay to get in). She questioned my decision for an English pamphlet and basically stated that because I look Indian physically - that I couldn’t possibly speak English even though our whole conversation took place in English. Her exact words were “are you sure?” When I asked her what language she thought I spoke, she looked shocked I talked back and blurted out “Italian”. Like be for real, no one would think I was Italian. Maybe she felt emboldened because I was by myself but it took away from the whole experience and I did not observe her saying this to anyone else.
Nayana G — Google review
DOG FRIENDLY!!! We visited when the mighty church organ was being played and our usually nervous pooch was unconcerned. Staff were really friendly.
David P — Google review
Beautiful cathedral that's towering above the old town. Highly decorated, with amazing high stained glass windows. Definitely worth taking a peak, apart from the windmill, when you are in Haarlem.
Maciej P — Google review
Very beautiful medieval church. If you go on the right time, chases are you're going to be able to listen to the pipe organ being played

We received a warm and helpful welcome at this very pleasant cafe set in lovely surroundings. Great food from an interesting menu selection. A real treat.

We came here for their main attraction - the robot that brings food to the tables. Strangely the personnel never sent food to our table on the robot and when we kindly asked on two occasions (and we ordered food/drinks twice), they said it’s too busy. Note: only 50% of the tables were occupied and the robot was being sent to other tables. Food bland and expensive, staff uncaring and rude. The cheesecake had no topping and didn’t taste fresh at all, ordered a cup of tea, only half of the cup was filled with warm water (I paid for full cup though). Will not return.

The Frans Hals Museum, located in a 17th-century building in Haarlem, is a popular destination for art enthusiasts. It houses an extensive collection of artworks by the renowned portrait painter Frans Hals and other Dutch Old Masters. The museum also features modern art and boasts a charming inner courtyard with hedge mazes, flower arrangements, and seating areas. Visitors can immerse themselves in the life and career of Frans Hals while admiring his magnificent paintings.
This museum features Harlem’s own Frans Hals, the € 17 admission is well worth it, included audio guide which is very well designed. All descriptions are in English and well explained. There many pictures from other artists as well as a very impressive doll house. The building itself was charming and quaint which was an oldman house located on a very charming alley. We, two adults and one twelve year old spent a good 4 hours there and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Yongmei Z — Google review
Frans Hal Museum located in Haarlem, walk around 20 mins from Haarlem train station. Entry fee is 17.50 euro and it's free for Museumkaart holder. Included audio audio tour. ** This ticket including entry fee to another one at the market (600 meters away) , have to use in same day purchase but we didn't have enough time for both of them. No need to book in advance. Free locker to use, not too big one so better for not too big bag or small belongings. It's a small art museum , mostly from Frans Hal and those time that's relatively involved. Dutch golden age portraits. In the big hall has small corner that you can dress up to old time costume, fun to do. My favorite part is the doll house. It's so tiny but detailed and nicely present. Fun to look at those little miniature. Not too big museum, only one floor. Well organized route to walk, easy to follow and not miss anything. Museum building itself also has interesting history. In the middle of the museum is inner garden. Nice and relaxing to sit there. Also has museum gift shop to visit. Museum cafe is open from outside, welcome for non museum visitors.
Onsiri N — Google review
There is a very interesting museum worth visiting for any age visitors. You can take the audio guide and listen to the building’s story in addition to the Hals lifetime facts and of course histories of the paintings. For the young visitors (adults could be also surprised) it can be interesting to read Dutch proverbs and their meanings, to se the Doll’s house and some funny “delft’s like” dishes. Inner garden is the best place to have a quick rest after the exposition (NB: the door to the garden looks like be automatic but you have to press the button on your left).
Yuliya D — Google review
A good museum overall, but its main drawback is that there aren’t that many works by Frans Hals. Most of them are placed near the end of the exhibition, by which point you’re likely already a bit overwhelmed, and unfortunately, they’re not his most interesting pieces either. That said, the museum is well-organized and features many impressive paintings.
Olga D — Google review
Had no idea this museum existed until we were walking by. Went in and were impressed with the collection and history of the building.
Christopher W — Google review
The museum is Haarlem’s leading art museum, dedicated to the Dutch Golden Age portrait master Frans Hals while also bridging tradition and contemporary art. Founded in 1862, it is housed in the former St. Elisabeth Gasthuis, a historic almshouse. Its branch, De Hallen, located on the Grote Markt, focuses more on modern and contemporary exhibitions.
Seokjin H — Google review
Loved this museum. I had a very enjoyable time here and enjoyed the story of Frans Hals very much. I wasn’t that aware of the artist but after this visit I feel I know quite some new things. The artworks on display are very beautiful and definitely worth the visit. There’s other artists as well beside Frans Hals and those are definitely worth it too. I stayed here for about 2 and a half hours and could have definitely stayed longer but due to time constraints I had to cut my visit short and rush the last few rooms. Nonetheless, this is definitely a worthwhile experience and highly recommended.
乇Ⱡ Ꭾ — Google review
The surprise of this museum is how much work they have by other artists, including 20th c artists. We actually would have appreciated seeing more Hals. Whether or not you live Hals—I do—it is worth visiting.

Keukenhof

Botanical garden
Nature & Parks
Keukenhof is a historic park in the Netherlands, originally used for hunting and growing herbs. Its name, meaning "kitchen garden" in Dutch, reflects its past purpose. The grounds feature Castle Keukenhof, built in the 17th century. The park is famous for its seven million tulip bulbs that bloom from March to May, attracting numerous visitors annually.
My weekend trip to Keukenhof, even though it was already around May and well into the season, proved that the garden's legendary status is entirely justified. The experience was undeniably busy perhaps the most crowded garden I've ever visited yet, despite the overwhelming number of people, the atmosphere remained incredibly charming. Let's address the central challenge first: the photography. If you’re looking for a peaceful, solitary moment to capture the flowers, a peak weekend visit in May is probably not the time. The sheer volume of visitors meant I couldn't really calmly make pics because tourists were everywhere. Every single angle, from the close-ups of the magnificent tulips to the grand sweeping vistas, had people waiting. This is a vital piece of advice for any future visitor: you should definitely be prepared to waiting to make pics wherever a charming tulip area was located. Patience is absolutely key to getting the shots you want, as moving quickly is simply not an option. What saved the experience, and made it genuinely worthwhile, was the impeccable state of the grounds. To say the garden seems good take care of is a massive understatement. Furthermore, despite having a lot of human traffic concentrated in a relatively small area, the air was still fresh. It’s a testament to the open layout and the surrounding nature that the park never felt stifling or oppressive, even at peak busy times. Even the logistics, which usually break down under such intense visitor pressure, held up relatively well. The toilet facilities, though always full and requiring a little bit of a queue, were quite clean and well maintained. Overall, Keukenhof is a floral spectacle that simply must be seen to be believed. While you must embrace the crowds and be prepared to waiting to make pics, the payoff is worth it. It is still charming even when shared with thousands of others.
Irma Y — Google review
Here is absolutely stunning fields of colorful flowers, especially tulips, everywhere you look. It was quite crowded with tourists, but the atmosphere was still enjoyable. Outside the park, we rented bikes and explored the endless beautiful flower fields around Lisse a fantastic experience! Despite the crowds, I’d definitely love to come back.
Isabella G — Google review
Large and beautiful gardens with a multitude of tulip displays. It was lovely to walk around and see all the beds that are supported by local farmers. The indoor displays were great for a bit of variety. Spent about 3 hours total including a rest for lunch. Visited at the start of April, so before the peak season, but still quite tiring with the huge number of people. The bus and entry ticket was very convenient.
Tom D — Google review
Its a spectacular garden with every colour of tulips and roses that you could imagine. Simply beautiful! There is also a section inside where they have arranged flowers and stuff, that too is worth seeing. Absolutely worth the money!!! Not-to-be-missed!
Rashida V — Google review
Visited Keukenhof in late March and had a lovely experience overall. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and getting there by bus was simple thanks to very clear signage and instructions throughout. While the outdoor tulips hadn’t bloomed yet (which is to be expected that early in the season), the indoor displays more than made up for it — vibrant, beautifully curated, and full of colour. The whole park is set in a stunning landscape, and even without the full bloom, it’s a peaceful and enjoyable place to walk around. I’ll definitely return again — but next time, a little later in the season to catch the gardens in full bloom.
Grace L — Google review
One of the most beautiful gardens in the world. Highly recommended for people who love nature, flowers and looking for a day out to spend time close to nature. Amazing views and wide variety of Tulips. I have taken day trip from Amsterdam and it was well worth it.
Roy A — Google review
VERY PRETTYY! visited it on march or april and it almost near the end of the season so some flowers are already got cut off, but still the collection is so pretty and it's less crowded! you should also buy and eat the strawberry covered chocolate and some snacks there! i also bought a bus ride from amsterdam from Klook!
Mahira P — Google review
My goodness, there is no other garden like this one. The place is huge and spectacular. There are flowers in every colour including black. Flowers are everywhere, left, right, behind and infront of you. The garden is located outside of Amsterdam and reachable by car or the Keukenhof bus which was very efficient. There are many people that visit this garden but you can still navigate easily if you come the earliest possible when the garden open. There are places on site to buy lunch and/or snacks. It is a bit pricey but the quality was really good so that worked out well. An amazing experience, I spent over 4 hrs at the garden, and took hundreds of photos. It is a must visit on anyone's list that loves tulips. It is a must to see the creativity in gardening, how much planning went into that, how much work was done, incredible experience for me.

Recommend to buy advance ticket as it’s limited attendees per round (you will stick to the same peers until the end).

It's a good tour and interactive afterwards. We have a six year old and a two year old; I feel that charging the same price (€25) for a 0, 1 or 2 year old as adults is a bit much. Our two year old was scared in the experience, as the dark rooms, lights and heartbeat sounds were quite intimidating without her understanding the context.
Andrew A — Google review
Very interesting museum about the human body. The children had fun, they have 2 parts of museum, one interactive and one to discover more by reading and watching more videos.I think between 2-3 h are more than sufficient to allocate for this museum.
Oana M — Google review
Relatively short “tour” but LOVED it, very well presented and truly thoughtful for kids (not tooo young though) without boring the adults. The play area tends to be a bit crowded but I’d highly recommend this place when in Leiden
Eki, : — Google review
It is very close to Leiden city and highway. Has a closed parking space incld EV charging. Museum is well designed, mostly enhanced with videos and lightshows. There are several educative activites after the museum. Mostly suitable for children.
Ahmet E — Google review
Old, overhyped and overpriced. I did enjoy the first part of the museum where you 'walk inside your body.' It is well-made and well explained. After the tour with audio guide, you come to the second part where you see visual materials and read the panels. It felt quite old and meant mainly for young children, probably below 8. My two children aged 9 and 12 though it was too childish and not attractive, so we just walked past and left the museum. Overall I felt it isn't worth the money. Not recommended.
M — Google review
Amazing place, very educational and has multiple interactive games which improves the understanding of the human body. Suitable for a range of ages and families. Great value for money too.
Thanushka — Google review
We visited this museum for the first time and we liked it. It was quite interesting to learn more about your body and body. The tour takes place in a small group with an audio guide. It's a pity that you can't take photos and videos while walking, you want to capture this.

Water & Amusement Parks
Tiki Pool is a popular water park located in the Netherlands, known for its tropical-style swimming pool and 21 exciting slides. The park offers water with subtropical temperatures, reaching above 30°C, making it an enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages. Families can also enjoy the special water park area called Playa designed for little children, where the water is not deeper than 15 centimeters. Visitors have praised the variety of slides available for both small children and thrill-seekers.
Family of 5, 3 children 8-15.. amazing.. lots of slides some pretty extreme.. spread out like maze so Q's form but managed about 8 slides in 2 hours..lockers don't need money but you need to remember number and pin.. indoor is better but only get 2 hours.. outdoor was nice on hot day but only few small slides
Carl V — Google review
I visited Tiki Bad Binnen and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The swimming area seemed to be mostly designed for children. The slides looked fun, but there were long waiting lines everywhere. It felt very crowded, and there was not much organization or supervision. This made the experience stressful instead of relaxing. The changing rooms were too small, with no proper locks on the doors and it wasn’t clear how the door system worked. It was very uncomfortable, especially for families or people needing privacy. The floors in the changing area were also quite dirty, which is not acceptable at all. Usually, for places that charge money for everything like entrance, parking, and more, you expect better service, more cleanliness, and a safer environment. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and helps improve the experience for future guests. With better organization, maintenance, and customer care, this could become a much more enjoyable place for everyone.

Tikibad Duinrell is a fantastic water park! The wave machine and fast paced flumes deliver non stop thrills, while the lazy river offers a relaxing float. There’s so much to do!! keeping all ages entertained including my 5 year old. Open late, it gives plenty of time to enjoy every slide and pool. The on site food options are convenient and tasty, perfect for refueling. With a vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff, Tikibad Duinrell is a must visit for a fun filled day props to the life guard (didn’t catch his name) for an excellent insight to some of the best slides.
Ben N — Google review
The inside waterpark is amazing. A large variety of slides with some of the most unique designs I have ever seen. Also some smaller rides for kids under 120cm and a kids area. My favourite slide was the cycloon although I would recommend putting your hands behind your head when going down as you can sometimes bang your head on the funnel part of the slide. The queues were also very small apart from on one of the days we went. Barely any queues for some massive slides. The height restrictions are a bit extreme with people having to be over 150cm to go on some of the more intense slides yet only 120cm to go on cycloon which is the fastest slide in the park and in my opinion the scariest. The sessions are 2 hours and if you are quick you can get on every slide in that time which is very good. Overall, I would say the waterpark is definitely worth a visit as it is one of the best I have ever been to and it has something for everyone.
Finn J — Google review
So much fun to be had and lots for all different ages. Some slides were super fast! There were not long queues apart from the Moonlight, Starlight and Triton but they were the most fun with double rings! Clean facilities and no charge for locker which is always nice. We had 2 tiki pool tickets during our 3 night stay at Duinrell.
Vicky S — Google review
We had a great time in the Tikibad. We had a 4 hour time slot which was enough time for us since we only used the indoor facilities. Plenty of slides and small pools to keep big and small kids entertained. I would recommend you bring your own hairdryer as they only have hand dryers instead. It was very odd standing under these trying to dry my hair. Some of the changing rooms didn't have enough lighting. I had to use my mobile phone to light the first cubicle I was in when getting changed. We did feel there were not enough life guards around but netheless all went well.
Meemee C — Google review
In the words of our kids "the best pool in the world". What I'm personally impressed with, is the design of the place. On a relatively small space, there are many slides and different attractions, which sometimes makes it chaotic but it's definitely fun and has a great deal to offer. We have been there several times and will definitely come back again. The outdoor attraction park is also fantastic!
Maja M — Google review
First of all, you can only buy tickets online. We had a 4 hour slot that was pretty good but they lack space in the wardrobe which causes chaos and massive lack of shower capacity, so most people don’t shower. The water feels dirty, rows before the slides are long and a lot of the tubes that are used in the slides and water rides are broken or missing. Impossible to get a sunbed of chair because they are taken by towels. If a car has one bad wheel it doesn’t drive comfortably.

Duinrell is a popular theme park complex in Wassenaar that has been a favorite outing for 80 years. What started as a modest family park with just a restaurant and a few attractions has now grown into a large amusement park with over 40 thrilling rides and the largest water park in the Benelux, Tikibad. This water paradise features an array of attractions including wave pools, whirlpools, lazy rivers, heated outdoor pools, and an impressive 21 water slides.
Fun and enjoyable amusement park with a kind of retro touch. Fun for hours for all ages. Arcade hall is a nice cherry on the top.

A big nice place with lots of rides to hangout for kids. Well enjoyed by adults also, this place gives you an option to stay overnight and there are water pools to enjoy in summers which are at extra cost. The place is well connected with public transport. The place needs slightly more attention towards hygiene. Must visit.
Shivam C — Google review
A nice theme park with a variety of rides to suit all ages. Also, the park has a water park inside it which is what makes it unique. The park itself is not too big and queues are not too long either. A day inside is usually sufficient.
Eli S — Google review
It’s a nice place for children to spend a full day, with lots of attractions and also a water park. You can buy separate tickets for the attractions or the water park, or a combined ticket. I bought the combined tickets. We spent the day from morning until 5:00 in the attractions, then went to the water park. The water park has both indoor and outdoor options, but the indoor one is much more fun. The only downside is the price—I think it’s a bit too high. I paid around €39 per person.

What a cracking day!!! Had fun from start to finish the guy operating the pirate ship was fantastic and went the extra mile. Very clean park not to busy food was ok prices were fine. 9.5/10. My only criticism and again it’s small is the toilets all close early even when the park is very busy.

We have came to duinrell on a number of occasions and every single time it reaches our expectations if not even higher and we will be back for the 6th time in the near future! Duinrell has a fantastic theme park which is suitable for all ages with a variety of different levels of thrill. The tiki bad waterpark is an excellent waterpark with loads of different and unique slides to anywhere else. I like how you can go late at night with the slots. This is perfect for a relaxing evening. The fully equipped park on site is open until really late so if your children want to stay for a little bit longer than they have the opportunity to. The staff are really friendly and you can even hire go karts and bikes. On site there is the superstore and pizza shop and restaurants even with a bowling alley, and bar with entertainment. The accommodation are great with fully working showers and the beds are comfy.

Hortus Botanicus Leiden, established in 1590, is among the world's oldest botanical gardens. It houses over 10,000 species of plants and various bird species from around the globe. A major attraction is the Clusiustuin, a recreation of the first systematic botanical garden named after its founder. Visitors can also explore the nearby Old Leiden Observatory and the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden for an enriching experience.
Established in 1587, this botanical garden is the oldest in the Netherlands. It is easy on your time and on your wallet. A great way to spend 30 min to an hour walking through the greenhouses filled with tropical plants and a few themed gardens.
Anatoliy — Google review
To be honest, its Japanese garden was a bit disappointing though it's designed by Japanese. I feel so strange with the rad walls. However, the green house and the other gardens are nice. You can enjoy seasonal flowers. Plants are separated by which area they are native to, which is unique if conpered with the other gardens.
L N — Google review
It was a bit disappointing to walk around a rather dull garden at the end of September. If the ticket had cost 5 euros, I would have been satisfied — after all, it’s still a nice place to wander or sit with a cup of tea. But for some reason, paying the full price of 11+ euros left me feeling a bit disappointed
Y B — Google review
It had been many years since my last visit to the Hortus Botanicus, and I was truly looking forward to seeing it again. While I must admit that the gardens didn’t feel quite as lush and vibrant as I remembered, the visit was still enjoyable. The atmosphere remains wonderfully peaceful, offering a lovely place to stroll and unwind in the heart of beautiful Leiden. Despite the slight change in appearance, the Hortus Botanicus continues to be a charming and tranquil escape well worth a visit.
Epicurean F — Google review
For the hype, I did not find it lived up to it. It has variety but not as largely spoken of. The Asian gardens are the loveliest and tranquil. The old trees truly awesome. Unless botany is your thing, or in need of some warmth in the cold seasons, I was disappointed.
Wanjiru M — Google review
Yesterday I visited the botanical garden in Leiden for the first time, and I was genuinely excited, my expectations were high. Sadly, the experience didn’t live up to them. Many of the plants in the garden looked neglected. I noticed several with brown or dying leaves, signs of pests, and overall poor health. It felt like a lot of the collection needs more attention and care. One of the main reasons I went was to see their Hoya collection, which I had heard great things about. To my surprise, there was no sign of it. When I asked a staff member, they told me the Hoyas are now kept in a non-public area because some visitors had previously stolen cuttings. If anyone wants to see them, they need to email in advance and explain why. While I understand the need for protection, I personally don’t think this is fair to genuine plant lovers. There are better ways to manage this issue without disappointing visitors who travel a long way to visit, especially when nothing about this is mentioned on their website or during the online booking process. It was a letdown, to say the least. Hopefully, they’ll consider making changes, because the potential of this place is huge, it just needs more transparency and plant care.
Charbel A — Google review
An absolute must visit if you’re ever in the Netherlands. Such a well-made experience with informative stands everywhere and rich history. And if you get tired, there’s a nice cafe where you can have a coffee with a cake.
Anastasiya K — Google review
The tiny but mighty botanical garden, with its greenhouses, rose garden, Chinese, and Japanese gardens, was enjoyable but did not require much effort. This is one compact garden, and there is enough space to sit and enjoy the views.

Museum Voorlinden is a private museum located in Wassenaar, near The Hague, showcasing a remarkable collection of modern and contemporary art. Opened in 2016, the museum was inaugurated by King William-Alexander and features the renowned Caldic Collection, assembled by businessman and art collector Joop van Caldenborgh. The striking white building houses a rich and surprising collection, including permanent works created specifically for the museum as well as temporary exhibitions.
Had a wonderful day exploring the museum with friends. There was lost of variation and the set up of the rooms is so nice and easy to navigate. It is spacious so even when crowded still does not feel full. The little book you receive at entry gives lots of background on every art piece. Some of the art would place in my house, so interesting and cool. Also enjoyed the pop-up shop and regular shop. The candy special that required a time-slot was very nice, go in line timely, but it goes quite fast. This special part required shoes off. For those that can’t take off their shoes there are shoe covers. Spent around 2,5/3 hours in the museum. Also beautiful landscaping outside.

Museum VoorlinMuseum Voorlinden is a beautiful and well-curated modern art museum, worth visiting if you are in the area. The staff is friendly and helpful, which made the experience smooth and pleasant. The artworks are all special in their own way, and each room offers something different. A standout for us was the marshmallow house — playful and unexpected, it really stood out as a highlight. There are a few practical things to note. You are not allowed to take even a water bottle inside, so plan accordingly. Also, the toilets are located outside the main building, which means you have to walk a bit to reach them. Overall, a unique and engaging museum experience. We give it 4 out of 5 stars. den

The pool is very famous yes, but if u go there just for that I would say it’s not worth it. But there are so much more to see. The environment surrounded is just so good to be true. Highly recommended even if just for the view outside. And the museum inside itself must be one of the most beautiful museum I have ever seen.

It's a very enjoyable place. Kids can enjoy it too. But we loved the cafe right next to it. The forest where the museum is located was wonderful. The landscaping was beautiful. You can also take a walk around the area.

I admit the artworks worth a visit however I have to be honest the experience was not good for a 22 euro. a) In that "sweet Memories"... everyone was asked to take off shoes, understandable though still a bit strange. Maybe I got bad luck in that group someone had unbearable stench filled the whole small candy room. At least for me that was zero sweet but a completely disgusting memories. b) It's normal and common sense not to touch the artwork but arguable the distance. I was struggling from the warning: "keep the distance"... I don't see it's normal for a museum to forbid visitors to look closely for details. Meanwhile to mention there is no clear sign at least for the "large-mini copied chairs". As a well known museum, you are not doing properly in leveraging the communication towards ur visitors between: "don't touch", "keep distance" and "look closely". If u believe signs break the artworks and atmosphere, then u should do it professionally in a different way. Good luck with your visit and hope all of u will have a Sweet Memories there... 😂 For me the disgusting memories + a strange "keep distance" warning made a very unpleasant experience for only 2 stars.

This facility serves as a base for forest rangers and volunteers who are committed to the conservation and maintenance of this unique peat bog. Function and Meaning The work shed functions as a central hub for various nature management tasks. Materials and tools are stored here that are essential for the maintenance of the hiking trails, the management of the reedlands and other conservation activities in the area. In addition, De Kievit offers space for educational meetings and serves as a starting point for various walking routes, including those to the nearby Lusthof De Haeck. Recent Developments In 2014, Werkschuur De Kievit underwent a thorough renovation to better meet the needs of both employees and visitors. The internal reorganization resulted in more efficient workspaces and improved facilities for the growing group of volunteers. A notable addition was the construction of a public toilet and shower area, a welcome facility for walkers exploring the surrounding nature reserves. Accessibility and Amenities For visitors who want to explore the Nieuwkoopse Plassen, De Kievit offers parking and serves as an ideal starting point for walks. From here it is just a short walk along the Hollandsekade to nature reserves such as Malta and Lusthof De Haeck. Castle De Haar, located about 15 km from the center of Utrecht, is a 19th-century medieval-style palace with landscaped gardens that host regular fairs and events. It is the largest castle in the Netherlands and is sumptuously furnished.
Buy your tickets in advance. Really cool place to visit, but don't go expecting an authentic medieval castle, there's has ga lot of renovation and modernization that take away from that aspect, but overall this is still a really great exhibit. Still plenty of history within the walls, I just question the walls themselves. Great displays, lots of artifacts, plenty of rooms, the gardens are wonderful, even the restaurant is solid for a quick bite. Highly recommend bringing the family, plenty of nice places to take family photos in the gardens.

You can’t bring in a bag or jacket. It’s very warm inside anyway. There’s not really any vegan food options Only like a juice But the gardens would be a cute location for a picnic There’s deer So cute

To visit the Kasteel de Haar it’s an unique experience. It’s very well preserved and organised, with explanations of the rooms and spaces in multiple languages. My only critic concerns the amount of people that was inside at the same time. It was extremely crowded what made hard to properly appreciate the place. The gardens are also very well taken care of and the flowers are beautiful. Thank you for the experience!

Castle De Haar is absolutely stunning — a truly magnificent and beautifully preserved castle. The interiors are richly decorated with exquisite furniture, artwork, and tapestries that give a real sense of how the nobility once lived. The castle grounds are just as impressive, with manicured gardens, old trees, and romantic walking paths. It's the largest castle in the Netherlands and definitely worth a visit. The self-guided audio tour gives everything you need to know about church, so it is highly recommended to get the free audio tour when visiting. Each stained-glass has a history attached to them. Almost most of the glasses are preserved by dismantling them to protect against the rage of WW2 and have been mounted again once peace is again maintained. A must-see church that carrys a long span of history on itself with high authenticity if you are planning to visit Gouda!

Very beautiful church. A calm and cozy place, nice to sit inside or walk around. The architecture is impressive, especially the stained glass. Worth a visit if you're nearby.
Anna L — Google review
Spectacular church, the highlight is the detailed painted glass windows. And it has a lot of them, as it is the longest church in the Netherlands.
Michael D — Google review
It's called church however one might argue it should be catherdrall for it size. The main attraction of thie church are 72 mosaic windows that are mostly massive and kept extremely well, not to mentioned they were unlocked at the begining of 2nd war and kept safe fir the duration of war. The church is 1000 years old and so worth seeing. Be sure to take guided tour which will enrich your expirence so much with knowledge of the mosaic windows. If you do decided to visit the sweet Dutch city of Gouda for the Gouda expirence then this must be also on your list as it's stone throw away from the museum. Highly recommend!

The historical part of the harbour it’s something special and need to be visited, most of the city is really modern while here you can feel a bit of the old charm

Enchanting place for having the most amazing time. Whether you are going out with friends for dinner or drinks or just walking around. Best place for romantic evening or having your own time for thinking.
Gulnar E — Google review
What a lovely area, just a couple of minutes from the Cube houses and the Markthal and close to a number of hotels such as CitizenM and restaurants such as Fitzgeralds. Blaak station, the Metro and tram are just a few minutes away or you can arrive in foot or by cycle. By day it’s a beautiful, relaxed area: there are lots of seats to sit and watch the world go by. The harbour if full of old and unusual boats many of which have supporting information posted closer by. Also look out for the Calex building which is really stunning and dominates done corner. In the evening the area comes alive as the many bars and restaurants quickly fill up with tourists and locals alike. Slepervest and other short streets are piled with cycles as people enjoy the lovely safe environment. If you are staying close by it’s definitely worth visiting to soak up the atmosphere.

Feyenoord Stadium, also known as De Kuip, is a 51,000-seat multi-purpose stadium located in Rotterdam. It serves as the current home to Feyenoord FC and has been a venue for rock concerts. The stadium offers tours that allow visitors to get close to the pitch, visit the changing rooms, and explore the museum showcasing European cups and Dutch championships won by Feyenoord.
Had the pleasure of visiting the Netherlands vs Spain Nations League Quarter Finals game and it was a spectacular experience. The stadium is pretty amazing and big and it was decently easy to get to our seats. Food and drinks were also easy to get but a bit on the pricey side. Nonetheless, a great stadium to have visited and a spectacular game to have been able to attend.

Amazing atmosphere! Even if you’re not a Feyenoord fan, De Kuip is a must visit for any football lover. The food and drinks in the business area are excellent with very friendly service.

It was the best and most detailed your we been on, the tour guide was informative and friendly and explained in English too as we were not natives to the language, but football is a multi lingual uniting game. We travelled from the UK for the tour it was worth it 👌 Reasonably priced and great fun.

De Kuip, the home of Feyenoord, is a historic stadium with a fantastic atmosphere. The fans are incredibly passionate, which makes every match unforgettable.

We’ve been to games all over Europe and the US and this hands down has been the best atmosphere we’ve ever seen. The stadium itself is not great (long lines to enter matches, bathroom situation is terrible, seats and aisles very small and compact) but it somehow adds to the charm. Unbelievable supporters.

Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Netherlands, showcases the historical water management system and Dutch innovation. The 18th-century windmills stand as a symbol of the country's resilience against flooding in the low-lying Alblasserwaard region. Visitors can explore the site for free, walking along footpaths and capturing picturesque moments.
Really an amazing place. You can have a good walk here, around 7km if you go to the very end and then back to the car park. You can also jump on boat if that's what you prefer. The cafe has a great view to the windmills, so I would say it's a must..😏
Ferenc F — Google review
A great day trip from Rotterdam. The videos inside the boat are great, lovely electronic demonstrations, you can go inside a couple windmills. But the best part is how passionate the volunteers are. They love chatting about the water management system and Netherlands history. A wonderful place for a sunny day. Do be careful with the ferry, if you time it incorrectly, you'll be waiting for an hour to get there or back.
Laura G — Google review
We didn’t have time to do the tour since we were biking through to Vreeswijk, but some of our colleagues were able to do a short tour and see the inside of the working windmills. The photos were really cool and I wish I could’ve done it. Great place to walk or bike. Beautiful scenery.
LD G — Google review
We visited this beautiful and serene UNESCO site in September. We enjoyed the boat ride and exploring the two windmills. I am glad to see that they kept these windmills in good conditions so that next generations appreciate them. Definitely worth visiting.
Blue H — Google review
The Kinderdijk windmill complex in the Netherlands consists of several historic windmills arranged in a line along waterways. Visitors can explore the outdoor areas of the mills and gain insight into the region's traditional water management systems. The paths are easily accessible, partially suitable for bicycles and pedestrians, and there are designated areas for photography and rest stops. Information about the mills and their history is provided via information panels. Parking is €9; guided tours of individual mills are available for an additional fee. The complex is clearly visible due to its location in an open landscape, offering several points of view over the windmills and waterways. Overall, the Kinderdijk windmill complex offers an informative and well-structured tour of historical buildings in a manageable setting.
Matt E — Google review
UNESCO Kinderdijk is absolutely beautiful and well worth the visit. The row of historic windmills set along the waterways feels almost timeless, and the scenery is peaceful, open, and incredibly photogenic. Walking or biking through the area gives you plenty of opportunities to enjoy the landscape, and the visitor center provides helpful background on the history and engineering behind the windmills. It’s a perfect blend of nature, culture, and Dutch heritage—a truly memorable experience.
T H — Google review
The site is huge and it is very beautiful you can spend the day there and honestly I didn’t take the tour but it is recommended due to the fact that it allows you to see the area better and have a better experience. But the parking was really hard to be found and their parking places are extremely expensive!!
Aseel D — Google review
We came here in October on a Thursday so we knew going into it that it was off-season. Getting here via public transit from Rotterdam was a bit of a trek but we managed. We bought tickets and enjoyed all it had to offer. We walked through all the museum spaces, took the water shuttle and the water tour. It was a fun day out in nature to get some fresh air and getaway from the city. It seemed like you could explore the place without buying tickets but to access the museum exhibits, the museum style windmills and the water shuttle, you needed to show proof of tickets. The only thing I'd recommend is bringing your own food as the options were slim and the space to eat filled up quick once the rain started down pouring!

The museum, about 800 metres away from the glass blower, exhibits special (unique) glass objects: from old glasses to modern art. The glass blower is an (instructive) great place to see and experience how glass objects (vases, glasses, etc.) are made by hand. There is plenty of explanation.

Sand, forest and quiet! Especially if you pass the areas where dogs can run free. Take a picknick blanket along, and enjoy a spot with a bit of view, on top of a sand dune. Realize that the sand is from the ice age times, impressive Dutch landscape! (Parking is easy at a few locations, like Bosch en Duin)

Food & Drink
Beer and ale brewed on the site of a Trappist monastery, with guided tours, tastings and gift shop.
💚💚💚 Highly recommended 💚💚💚 Simply grateful to visit this vibrant green place on a beautiful sunny day! 😊 The instructor, Tony, is hilarious and kept everyone laughing. 😄 I’m delighted to have learned the story behind the bottle of beer, adding depth to the experience of drinking. ☺️ I chose the Quadrupel, the highest in alcohol percentage, and it did not disappoint. Absolutely loved it! 🍻 Biking around the brewery was also fantastic. I loved all the green vibes. 😊

Stopped here to have trappist beer and Abbey cheese in the tasting room. The inside was large with many tables. We got flights, cheese platter and than a few more beers. The staff were very nice. There's a store on the way out to buy beer to-go and other souvenirs. Free parking. Would recommend a visit!
Toni S — Google review
We visited La Trappe and did the tour and lunch after. We had a reservation ahead of time and glad we did as I believe the tour was full. The tour is a great way to learn about the monastery and brewery operations. And a way to see a little behind the scenes. And after learning quite a bit you get a beer! I didn’t know that the keg/draft and bottled beers were different and it was cool to get to compare them (and even better at the source). The tour guide was funny and informative. The restaurant is large with a good amount of seating inside and out. The menu has many tasty sounding dishes. The food was good not great. The mustard served with my cheese plate was probably my favorite thing. There is a store onsite that sells way more things that I was expecting. Along with the glasses and beer, they sell chocolate, honey, the tasty mustard, soaps and lotions, and cheese. Overall it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re interested in beer or a lunch in pretty setting.

If you're interested in beer, history, and charity with no boundaries, then I would highly recommend visiting here. They offer tours in English in the morning where you learn the history of the monks, get to witness their brewing and bottling operation, and then experience it for yourself at the end of the tour. Our tour guide was friendly, jovial, knowledgeable, and a perfect host during our time there. I regrettably forget his name, but he was a gentleman. The weather was perfect, so we sat outside their tasting room in the beer garden and sampled their fantastic menu of food and drinks. I cannot recommend this place enough and don't forget to visit their gift shop for all kinds of handmade products.

Second time here. And I’ll always come back. The place is beautiful, the tour is very interesting, the food is delicious and the beer… oh, the beer… ❤️ I recommend the tour and the bitterbalen (traditional Dutch croquete). And don’t miss the store. Amazing!!!

The excursion of the on-site brewing facilities is a must for beer, specifically Trappist beer, lovers :)) get ready to be charmed by the light-hearted humor of the tour guide and settle in for some top notch food and snacks. Beekse Bergen is the largest safari park in the Netherlands, offering various ways to visit its diverse animal population. Visitors can drive through the park in their own car, take a guided bus tour, explore on foot, or even enjoy a boat ride. The park is home to a wide range of animals including elephants, lions, apes, meerkats, tigers and white-cheeked gibbons. Additionally, visitors can add a day of fun at Speelland during the summer.
You can visit on foot, with your car or with a boat. Park is big, so it's good to plan for the most of your day. Animals have a lot of space to walk around compared to the zoos. It's clean, well maintained and there are multiple playgrounds for kids, also with places to buy drinks, snacks and food.

Always enjoy visiting here. I recommend to take the boat safari to the top of the park, see the birds of prey show (this is a must in my opinion) and then make your way back down the park. 1 star removed because of the restaurant. 1 person cooking per station during peak season really isn’t a good choice. The workers were incredibly stressed and the customers weren’t making their life easier by complaining. Otherwise the food was good.

Absolutely amazing place!! There’s so much stuff to do for kids, we were out from morning till 10pm at night. All of the staff was soo lovely and helpful and kind! Made us feel so welcome everywhere we went. Magical place full of activities, can’t believe I only just found this place! There’s safari park, beach with play park indoors and outdoors, swimming pools with slides, disco and shows for kids, you can hire bikes, kayaks, paddle boards or just chill in a super nice pub/restaurant while kids run around, it’s all secure and safe.

A perfect place to spend time with family or friends. This time we chose the walking option. We saw all the animals whose signs we passed. Although they have a lot of space, you can still see them in smaller or bigger groep. There are many places along the way where you can stop and sit for a moment. Honestly, I even felt a little sorry for those who chose the car safari when I saw the line of cars. It was a great time, and I think it won't be our last visit to this place.

Had so much fun here. There are many different kinds of animals from all over the world. The only think i did not like was the big birds in cages which should not be allowed. Otherwise it was most certainly worth the trip.

Yesterday we went for another visit to Netepark Vorselaar. We had excellent weather and arrived well before the rest of the horde, meaning we had the playground and swimming pool pretty much for ourselves. The playground is suitable for the youngest kids as well as kids in the early teens. The entrance fee even thou we're not from Herentals is really democratic. There are also trampolines, a multi purpose field, a small football field a beach volleyball court and a Mini Golf (last one at a small extra fee). The swimming pool has 2 outdoor pools and inside there's another 4 (if you count the small one for the toddlers as well). Next to this there's a whirlpool and fast slide and some hot tubs. One of the inside pools was also filled with toys. Beware, to enter the swimming pool area there are some regulations, loose swimming clothes like shorts are not allowed, also kids under the age of eight must always be accompanied by an adult. There also a restaurant where you can get foods and drinks.

So make sure to check it what you can jot used it and what you may use it. Because if you dont use the swimsuit that they are allowed, then you can not go to the water. They have 5 different pools and one water slide. Outside, there are 2 zwembad. One for children and one for adults. Indoor, they have one big pool with golfen en jacuzzi. Hot zwembad for children from 50-90cm. And big zembad for adults or someone that can swim. And also the slide. Beside the zwembad, they have playground that according the age. They have mini golf. They have trampoline. They have bmx track. Football and basketball field also. And big park that you can choose wherever to sid. They also have restaurant that you can order from their menu. Overall, this place is recommended to visit.

Very unfriendly staff..from the lady at the entrance to the lifeguards. God forbid you forget your ID and have no proof you live in Herentals..even if your spouse presented her/his ID. The lifeguards don t bother to begin with a simple "hello" or a smile..no softskills at all. Swimming pools are very nice and fun..the staff ruins the experience.

Was there with a group of around 80. The only thing is the rule for having to wear tight swimming clothes, makes no sense.
Stefan H — Google review
Amazing facilities for kids. Entry gives you whole day access to a leisure pool, baby pool, 25m indoor pool, 25m outdoor pool, outdoor paddling pool, pool slide as well as unlimited use of the outdoor playground, trampolines, bmx track (bikes included) and mini golf. We spent most of the day there with 6yr & 8yr old kids who rated it 100/10.
Paul A — Google review
I could not enter because I did not have my passport on me :(. The park looked nice from the outside.
Evelyn A — Google review
Pool not good for young kids, the inside kids area is tiny and boring. When you go to eat afterwards, all the restaurant staff roll their eyes when you ask for something like an extra drink, you know, their job.

The Botanical Garden in Leuven is a historic site dating back to 1738, originally established as a herb garden for the university's medicine students. Over time, it has evolved into a diverse display of plants and flowers. The garden features a tranquil Sunken Garden where students often study amidst the peaceful surroundings. Amidst the bustling city, this garden offers a serene escape for visitors seeking relaxation and natural beauty.
Beautiful green oasis in the center of Leuven. I really loved the big sequoia tree and the wisteria trees. There were some amazing smells of the flowers also. We just spent some time here walking around and taking a break on some of the benches here

A beautiful and serene escape from the city. The garden is well-maintained, with a wide variety of plants, flowers, and peaceful walking paths. I especially enjoyed the calm atmosphere and the chance to take some lovely photos surrounded by nature. A perfect place to relax, breathe, and reconnect with the natural world. Definitely worth a visit!

I was here during autumn so lots of the plants were not blooming but it’s still such a nice place to just sit and enjoy the views. No ticket needed as it’s free and you can also see people just jogging around it. Perfect place to contemplate.

Superb botanical garden and very jealous of the space. We saw alot of exotic plants and trees and super well kept. Highlights were the Musa, oranges, kumquat and the turtles. If you’re closeby, its worth visiting. There are toilets available (clean), wheelchair accessible and a small information center with some booklets. There is bicycle parking in front of the entrance.

The Historic Leuven Town Hall, located on the Grote Markt, is a stunning example of 15th-century Gothic architecture. Adorned with spires and 236 sculptures representing local scholars, artists, and nobles from the city's history, it stands as an iconic sight in Leuven. Despite surviving wars and even a WWII bomb that failed to explode, the town hall remains an impressive symbol of resilience.
The Royal Palace of Brussels (Palais Royal de Bruxelles) stands as a prominent landmark in the city and serves as the official palace of the Belgian monarchy. Situated in the heart of Brussels, it faces the Brussels Park (Parc de Bruxelles). While it is not the royal family's residence—they live in the Castle of Laeken—the palace hosts official state functions and events.

This building is certainly one that has impressed me the most while visiting Leuven. It is centre of Leuven. Leuven's Town Hall is the historic city's pièce de résistance. Moreover, it's one of the best-known Gothic town halls worldwide. It took three architects and thirty years to build it. Leuven's 'Hall of Fame' features 235 statues, which were only added to the facade after 1850.
Shubham M — Google review
A beautiful building in the center of Leuven with 235 statues to admire. It’s a must see if you are visiting Leuven. There are daily one hour tours in Dutch and English and on the weekend in French. In these tours you visit the interior of the building while learning about the history. The cost is 4 euros and you can buy tickets in the tourist office around the corner. Starting in September 2024, this building will be closed for renovation until 2029. So if you want to take a tour, I would recommend doing it now!
Courtney C — Google review
Magnificent and Magical - this is the most iconic spots in Leuven. Don’t forget to book a guided tour if you want to visit the interiors. The inside of the town hall is well preserved with wooden ceilings and chandeliers transporting us to that era. Very beautiful!!!

Such a beautiful city hall, happening square. Especially great in winter with Christmas lights. Preferable to go at-least once and to keep in your bucket list.

This city town hall is one of most beautiful hall, it's just stunning with the little detail of arts. Especially, with the sunset light reflex toward the Hall, just gorgeous.

This is the best-known Gothic town hall. Leuven's 'Hall of Fame' features 235 statues Which took three architects and thirty years to build it.
Barbie P — Google review
Spectacular building with a Flemish Gothic façade, although the remains of Leuven's first town hall, built in 1439 and located on the main square, are no longer preserved. It has been destroyed and rebuilt three times in the last hundred years, the last time after the Second World War. On the outside we can see 236 statues, all of them of important figures in the history of the city, arranged by floors: on the ground floor we find academics and artists, on the ground floor religious figures, on the first floor members of the nobility and finally, at the top of the towers, scenes from the Bible are represented.

Leuven Oude Markt is a lively and vibrant town square in Leuven, Belgium, known for its bustling atmosphere and picturesque surroundings. The square is adorned with charming open-air bars and restaurants housed in ornate gabled mansions, creating a delightful setting for visitors to enjoy shopping, dining, and nightlife. During the academic year, the population of the area is largely comprised of students, resulting in an abundance of cafes and student deals at restaurants.
Little gem of a town of the standard tourist track, with lovely medieval streets and plenty of cafes/bars/restaurants in the centre. Head out towards the Begijnhof to experience some really old cobbled streets that seem to be untouched by modern standards

Beleuvenissen was so amazing, will definitely come here again. After that everyone was partying in de pubs up until 6 am. Incredible vibes, 5stars

I visited Oude Markt in Leuven and was instantly charmed by its lively vibe. With terraces filled with people and historic buildings all around, it truly feels like the heart of the city.

The Oude Markt in Leuven (Belgium) is one of the city’s most famous landmarks and gathering places. It’s often nicknamed “the longest bar in the world” because the entire square is lined with cafés, bars, and restaurants, one next to the other.
Jelena R — Google review
Lively spot in the center of Leuven. The Oude Markt is full of terraces, cafés, and great energy at any time of day. Perfect place to meet friends, grab a drink, and enjoy the local atmosphere. Always something happening here.
Cris S — Google review
The place is phenomenal. Cafe places are crowded, but they are very lovely. You can find everything over there: cafe places, restaurants, fast food, bars.. etc. It is better to walk around.. don't rely on a car because some streets are very narrow and cars are not allowed there. If you are looking for history, entertainment, and fun time. This is the best place

Universiteitsbibliotheek en bibliotheektoren

Cultural landmark
The Universiteitsbibliotheek en bibliotheektoren, also known as the University Library and Library Tower, is a must-see attraction in the city. The library's stunning architecture and vast collection of books make it a sight to behold. Visitors can explore the interior of the library and even access the tower for panoramic views of the city. The building has a rich history, having served three different universities over the years.
The library underwent severe bombings and damage during two world wars but re-built again. It is a mixture of the old and new. The clocktower gives you the best view over Leuven. The small photos and explanations on the sides of the top balcony tells you what each building is. The entrance is free to students and 7 euros for adults.
Uğur A — Google review
The Universiteitsbibliotheek en bibliotheektoren (KU Leuven library and tower) is worth a visit. The exterior alone is eye catching. To tour the library and tower, purchase tickets onsite, download the app to hear the audio guide (remember to bring your headphones / earplugs) and enjoying learning about the history of the historic landmark. Touring the tower includes at least 150 steps from the entrance to the tower up to the top. The ascent is broken up with information provided on each floor. Both the tour of the library and the tower is highly informative and includes the history of the library and the international ties that made the refurbishment of this historic landmark possible. For the visit, there are lockers for free for anything you are carrying with you are it is prohibited to enter with bags of any kind. Highly recommend. Entrance including tour of the tower was €8.
Nanita — Google review
The building is absolutely stunning from the outside. We paid €2 each for the student-rate library tour, which included entry to the room shown in the photos. However, access was limited to a small 2x3 meter area — we weren’t allowed to walk around or explore further. In our opinion, the library tour alone isn’t worth it, as everything you’ll see is already shown in the photos. The ticket also includes a mobile app tour audio, but unfortunately, it didn’t work for us. We didn’t do the tower tour, so we can’t speak to that experience. On a positive note, the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Louis W — Google review
You have pretty limited access to the library but it could be because the students are actively using them. The main attraction at least is to visit the tower. It’s not too high but you get a clear view of the city from the top.
Cita W — Google review
Beautiful library worth a visit even if not to read. It was rebuilt after the 1914 fire, but it still has beautiful wood panelling, large windows and huge industrial, early 1900 lamps. We visited when it was open to the public, otherwise visitors can enter the library by buying a daily card (5 eur?).
Ambra N — Google review
It’s worth a visit. It costs 8 euros for library and tower. Not much you can see at the library itself. After the fifth floor (289 steps) to get to the tower but the view is spectacular.
Nicole G — Google review
Beautiful library with a lot of old books that you can peak. The view from the tower is spectacular though a bit of a climb. Totally worth it though.
Ricardo A — Google review
Super Leuven view. You shouldn’t miss this beautiful 360 degree view. Two remarks: it only pays back your energy invests when the sky is blue and sunny 😎. And secondly: Watch your steps! I do strongly recommend the guided tours offered by the tourism office. The guides are well educated, with a lot of historical knowledge and the educational background needed.

Groot Begijnhof Leuven is a serene and well-preserved quarter with a rich historical background. This UNESCO World Heritage site boasts charming cobblestone streets, peaceful gardens, and well-maintained buildings that once housed a religious women's village. The vibrant Ladeuzeplein nearby is a hub of student life and cultural activity, featuring the striking Totem sculpture and the university library. The stunning St.
It’s such a historical location which really worth going. Full of red-bricked buildings. It seemed entering to another world. Just walk through those little streets and almost forgot the time. We just walk here amd there and took many nice pictures. This is a really amazing area. I really enjoyed the time spending there.
Gin C — Google review
We’ve been living in this residence for a few years now. I must say, if you’re visiting Leuven, you absolutely shouldn’t miss Groot Begijnhof. Its historical architecture is truly mesmerizing. Every street reveals different houses and glimpses of past lives. Recently, some infrastructure work has been taking place in part of the area, so if you’re planning to visit during the summer of 2025, be aware that some entrances are closed and walking around the church might be a bit difficult.
Açelya Ç — Google review
Incredible walking experience there. There was some renovation done in some part of area but in general it’s a very enjoyable experience with exploring the small aisle and looking at the old buildings. I was there during weekday so it was pretty quiet.
Cita W — Google review
Beautiful and peaceful place in the heart of Leuven. The Groot Begijnhof feels like stepping back in time with its quiet cobblestone streets, historic houses, and calm atmosphere. Perfect for a walk, some photos, or just to disconnect from the city noise. A must-see in Leuven.
Cris S — Google review
I strolled through the Groot Begijnhof in Leuven and instantly felt its centuries-old charm. As I entered through the main gate, those traditional sandstone buildings and winding cobblestone lanes made me feel like I had stepped back in time. Each house, some with striking crow-stepped gables and tiny old windows, reveals layers of history and story. The peaceful courtyards and scenic river views added to the atmosphere. This restored “town-within-a-town” is a unique place and quiet yet full of character, offering an authentic glimpse into Leuven’s past and the life once led by its beguines.
Ruben K — Google review
The Groot Begijnhof in Leuven is a beautifully preserved 13th-century beguinage and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once home to religious women called beguines, it features cobbled streets, red-brick houses, gardens, and stone bridges over the River Dijle. Restored in the 1960s, it now belongs to KU Leuven and serves as housing for students and professors. It’s a peaceful quarter perfect for a quiet walk through history.
Jelena R — Google review
It’s a breathtaking testament to history and architectural grandeur, buildings of Gothic and Renaissance styles. It can be called as the hidden place of Leuven. Not much crowded place. Good place to have some memories.
