Duisburg

Duisburg is a city in western Germany, at the junction of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers. It's known for its large harbor and the Innenhafen (Inner Harbour), a waterfront dining and nightlife district. The Museum Küppersmühle has a collection of modern German art, and the Lehmbruck Museum displays modern sculpture. The site of an old ironworks, Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord is now a park with trails and a ropes course.

Nature & Parks
Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord is a former metalworks site in the Meiderich district of Duisburg, Germany that has been transformed into a public park. The landscape architect Peter Latz preserved the industrial structures such as blast furnaces and chimney stacks, integrating them into the park's design.
Public park, has a lot of magnificent things to see, î visited mostly because Im a Hunger games fan and some parts where filmed there for The ballad of songbirds and snakes. They also filmed Sunrise on the reaping there. But in general it’s a beautiful place to visit, just walk around, take pictures, enjoy. There might even be some events finding place there, when I was there there was a street food festival

I recently visited Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord and was completely amazed by how an old steel factory was transformed into such a creative and inspiring public space. The combination of industrial ruins, greenery, and open access made it feel like walking through a giant outdoor museum. Climbing up the old blast furnace was a highlight – the view over the Ruhr area is fantastic! I also loved how peaceful it was despite being such a popular spot. The lighting at night is magical and gives the whole park a completely different vibe. This is a perfect spot for photographers, families, history lovers, or just anyone who enjoys exploring unusual places. And it’s free! Highly recommended if you're in the area.

It's a huge public park full of factories, machines, an old railway, a theater and a windmill. It just show you the history of The industrial part of the country. It's a great place for photos and sports since You'll walk a lot and climb many stairs. You can ride a bike or walk your dogs too. There's a small cafe at the entrance and some public bathrooms.

Landschaftspark Duisburg is an amazing place to visit. It is a former industrial site turned into a beautiful park. The old steel structures look impressive, especially when lit up at night. There are many activities like climbing, walking, and exploring the old factory buildings. The park is well-maintained and has great photo spots. It is perfect for families, friends, and photographers. I had a wonderful time and would love to visit again.
Mohammad A — Google review
One of the most extraordinary things I've visited. You can walk from the bottom right up to the top of one of the blast furnaces, stopping at various levels to see how it worked. The views from the top are incredible. There is no fixed route and we just wandered around, but if you wanted an order to it, start from behind the gas tank and head for the bunkers, where you'll "find" the walkway which takes you along them, to the bottom of the visitable blast furnace. There isn't much signage, but actually that's one of the nice things about this place.
Georgina F — Google review
Day is good for if you want to climb up to the top of the factory, night for the light and spooky vibe, the evening is great for the view, i like the iron slide they have for children and adult.
Huỳnh T — Google review
How nice that people turned industrial heritage into cultural future! Nice that one can climb up to the highest point! Good view! Also the cafe is nice to have a drink or eat something...
Griet V — Google review
Lovely place to walk around. There are signs to explain the different structures left from when it was a factory. Sunset from blast furnace #5 is so pretty.

Tiger & Turtle Magic Mountain is a captivating art installation nestled in Duisburg, Germany, designed by the talented duo Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth. This remarkable structure resembles a roller coaster but serves as an interactive walkway that invites visitors to explore its winding paths and steep ascents. Standing at 35 meters high on a man-made hill crafted from remnants of a former zinc manufacturing site, it offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding industrial landscape.
Lovely place for an easy hike, mild breeze and a great view. Lush green perimeter and some benches to sit and relax.
SACHIT V — Google review
What a wonderful place to get exercise, see a great view of the town (I went at sunset!), and have some FUN! This is an interactive sculpture that is a walkable "roller-coaster" (minus the rollers). I uploaded a video of doing the walk on my youtube and sped it up to give it the 'roller-coaster' feel for funsies. Make sure you wear pants under your skirt! As the walkway of the sculpture is metal-mesh and not all solid. Be careful on windy days... Other than that, it's a great place to take pictures! When you enter, you can choose to go right or left. The right side is the longer way. Either way, you have to return back to the beginning going back the way you came, so it doesn't matter which way you choose first -- you can go both ways. There are gates preventing you from accessing the "upside down" part of the loop (obviously for safety reasons). At the base of the sculpture, there are a few benches to sit on. There is also a trashbin near the benches. There's a short hike up an easy incline up a hill to reach the spot from the nearest tram stop. There are also a couple "shortcuts" that cut through the wooded area -- but maybe you need a local to show you where they are... xD When you get off the tram, just follow the paved road to the top and you won't get lost. (Be sure to keep track of the tram time schedule so that you can plan your trip accordingly!) Oh! BTW it is totally FREE! Like most best things in life are sposto be.... yey. Enjoy Germany!

A very nice experience. You can take a walking trail around in nature. On the paths between the trees. When you go up there is an interesting facility like an amusement park. You can go up the stairs but you can't go down the other side. You have to go down the side you go up. Because there is a part in the middle where you can't go. At night the lights come on and you see the sunset. A spectacular sight.
Gi — Google review
Great, different, free! A walkable roller coaster, only the looping sections were blocked because you can't walk upside down! 😂 The walk up in complete darkness at first (at night 🌃) was a bit spooky 👻 but was well rewarded. 🎢💡
Gary K — Google review
It was free!!! Had a great scenic experience. Would say the best time to go is just before sunset and when there aren't a lot of people (the more people...the more vibration)
Matshepo M — Google review
Nice little place to visit. It’s a 15-20 minute walk up the path before you actually reach the metal walkway structure. It has a nice feel about the place and the views are great.
Tony R — Google review
Simple yet unique and creative sculpture. Amazing integration of history and art. The views were amazing, especially during the sunset. It's definitely a must visit place with kids. There's a slope to reach there, and if you don't like walking around, there's a direct route as well, which is a sort of trek (2 mins). It's free of cost to visit. The nearest grocery store is around 1 km away. Best place to spend some quality time with oneself or with family and friends.

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Duisburg Zoo, situated in Duisburg, Germany, is a well-known destination for animal enthusiasts. Spanning over 15 hectares and established in 1934, the zoo houses about 4,000 animals from approximately 400 species. Visitors can witness exotic and native animals including big cats, bears, monkeys, and even koalas at the specialized Koala House. The zoo also features a dolphinarium and an adventure playground for added entertainment.
We recently visited Duisburg Zoo, and overall, it was a great but mixed experience. 👍 What I Liked: The zoo features some unique animals you don’t usually see in other German zoos—like red panda, koalas, manatees, elephants, and even Tasmanian devils, which was a nice surprise. The layout is quite spacious and natural, with wooded surroundings and open paths. It felt more like a walk in the park with animal stops along the way. Big animals like elephants have enough space for themselves, and the zoo even mimic what's their real niche. They also have colourful aquariums with beautiful corals and farms. Great for families! There are playgrounds and picnic areas scattered around, making it easy to spend a full day with kids. For photography lovers, it’s a solid spot. Many enclosures offer good visibility without too much glare or obstruction. What Could Be Better: Some parts of the zoo feel a bit dated. A few enclosures could definitely use a facelift or renovation. I did have concerns about animal welfare, especially with the gorillas and elephants—some seemed anxious or restless. Great value for money and the highlight and the crowd pleaser is the Dolphin show. They have names like Delfin, Delfina, Daisy.. 🎟️ Practical Info: Entrance fee: ~€19.50 for adults, ~€11 for kids.
Gee O — Google review
There quite a lot of variety animals! we can watch them closely name boards towards Dolphinarium is not great, it was difficult to find it and hence we missed the show! - one star minus there are only snack and mini cafe, no proper restaurant inside - which is why one star less parking lots are here and there, come by 11am to make it useful! the pic is the view from inside the zoo towards Autobahn! Close shot of lions! At one corner they have Domestic animals like pigs , rabbits 🐇 etc Candid pics of animals are shot by me with CanonM50

We’ve been to the Duisburg Zoo a few times now, and it’s always a fun experience. There’s a wide variety of animals, including some unique ones like koalas and a wombat. Some parts of the zoo feel a bit dated, but you can clearly see that they are working on renovating several enclosures, which is great to see. The highlight of the zoo is definitely the dolphin show — it’s very well done and always a pleasure to watch. All in all, it’s a nice zoo that we’ll happily visit again!
Gavin B — Google review
Quite cool zoo. Positive: nice variety of animals. All are well fed and taken care. Surrounded by a green, natural and beautiful environment. The delfinarium is fun. You could see tigers, gorillas, giraffes, red pandas, elephants and many more. Toilets and restaurants are available. The price is not that bad. Negative: the parking is 1 km away, at least. You have to walk through a path that is next to a highway where cars go fast. It doesn't feel too convenient if you go with kids. The day fee is 5€ and you have to pay in cash at the entrance.
A. S — Google review
Don’t miss the dolphin show. We enjoyed the visit. However, 500 ml water battle will cost 4.5 euros.
Harshith D — Google review
That was awesome. Very huge area. Need 3-4 hours minimum. My advice - take your time, make a plan, have a fun. Don't miss the delphinium show.

The Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg is a well-known art collection that features both indoor and outdoor sculptures, as well as paintings and works on paper. The museum's location near the Duisburg Railway Station makes it easily accessible by foot or bus. The building itself is architecturally stunning and surrounded by a beautiful park, making for an eclectic exhibition experience. It's truly an unexpected gem located in the heart of Duisburg that shouldn't be missed if you're in the area.
Fantastic Modernist Museum to spend a few hours walking around. We really enjoyed all the paintings and statues. It was great to walk around the local park, checking out all the works of art there.

Great space with friendly staff, they ask me if i want to see how the art work and they turned it on. Great art and space for breathing
Huỳnh T — Google review
Have been to many art museums, this one ranks very high. Great selection of works, loved the Lehmbruck wing. I was just so annoyed with a non existant entrance direction signs. It is a very large building, so you go around and around, the only sign had a wrong direction. And local people did not know. So, i am adding to my post the map with both entrances.

Wilhelm Lehmbruck (4 Jan 1881- 25 Mar 1919) An extremely talented German sculptor, draftsman, painter, printmaker known for his beautiful abstractions of elongated human sculptures. I discovered Lehmbruck's remarkable body of work during research of Mies van der Rohe's Krefeld Villas and Villa Tugendhat where he reveals moments of transition as he studies architectures beauty by assimilating the presence of modern sculpture, of note, Lehmbrucks, Torso/girl turning, in both villas (caveat: "Dawn", by Georg Kolbe via Barcelona Pavillion). Here, Mies showcased his close friend Wilhelm's talented work...an naturalist and abstract expressionist. His work is very distinct, dignified, personal, exquisite. Both Mies and Wilhelm shared the common interest in the sacred form and philosophy of architecture. Of note, Wilhelm's son, architect Manfred Lehmbruck designed the museums stunning villa quarter low concrete edifice silhouetted with curved openings, showcase glass cubes and skylight windows/openings allowing natural light perfectly articulate wilhelm's sculptures from any directional view. In my humble opinion, the architecture and sculpture brilliantly share physical space, tenets of form, scale and material, hence, breadthtaking uncompressed beauty leaving visitors spiritually embraced by both forms of three dimensional art. There is much to learn. Highly endorse

Restaurant
Ristorante Villa Patrizia Exklusiv Italienisch am Kaiserberg is a top choice for lovers of upscale Italian cuisine. The restaurant offers a selection of the finest dishes, including homemade pasta, exquisite Vitello Tonnato with added roe from sea bass, and Chianina beef fillet paired with carefully chosen wines.
We visited Villa Patrizia on a Monday to celebrate my mother’s birthday. From the moment I first contacted the owner, who is deeply involved with the guests, I was impressed by the exceptional care and attention given to creating the perfect menu for us. The atmosphere and setting of the restaurant were fantastic. The service was top-notch, making the experience even more enjoyable. This is a place where you can truly savor the food, with a unique culinary experience led by the owner herself, Chef Patrizia. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates refined dining and special attention—qualities that are unfortunately rare to find these days. Special greetings from Daniel and Miriam. We will definitely return when we're nearby.

The food was a real highlight: fresh ingredients, lovingly prepared, and of the highest quality. The pasta was perfectly cooked al dente, the sauces perfectly balanced, and the pizza was crispy with a great topping. We especially recommend the homemade antipasti and the tiramisu for dessert – simply divine! The wine selection is also excellent and perfectly rounds off the Italian experience. (Translated by Google) Wallstrasse in Duisburg is more of a street in Duisburg's city center that doesn't offer many shopping opportunities and has had a rather shadowy existence in recent years. It's too bad not to even take a detour to the small but really warmly run restaurant. For 15 years, the restaurant has been distinguished by unusual dishes with freshness and finesse. The menu is small but well sorted. The changing weekly menu also promises regular guests a lot of variety in the dishes. Everything is freshly and lovingly prepared and presented very warmly by the very courteous staff. At the guest's request, dishes can also be creatively combined and implemented to their complete satisfaction. The prices are moderate and correspond to the quality. Anyone who thinks they want to end the evening there after 8 p.m. will be completely disappointed. Corona and the difficult situation in the catering industry do not currently allow earlier opening times. I hope that changes again soon. This is also due to the remote Wallstrasse and all shops there are closed after 8 p.m. Anyone who gets lost there will find themselves in front of locked doors everywhere. So if you're shopping around the city during the day, you should definitely stop by and let yourself be seduced by the culinary delicacies. It's better to end the evening well-fed with a drink or a nightcap in other places that are still open after 8 p.m. We will be happy to come back and take a look at the interior of the restaurant soon when the weather is bad. Today we sat outside in summer temperatures.

During an exhibition in the area, I had the opportunity to try several restaurants within the same price range. However, Mein Stübchen stood out as the best one. The restaurant provided excellent service and high-quality food for a reasonable price. In fact, their offerings were so impressive that we even rescheduled our closing dinner there. All of my colleagues thoroughly enjoyed their meals at this establishment. The food was delicious and definitely worth its cost.
Visited for a beer and wine while staying nearby. Friendly welcoming young server took our drinks order, we sat outside and people watched. Fancied some food to share so ordered a Salami Pizza, it was piping hot and delicious. Wine was also very nice, bottle of Faustino Rivero at €18 was a very reasonable price to pay. On our return visit we were greeted with a friendly smile from a very nice server who had served us the day before. This time, we shared a Grecia pizza, feta cheese, olives, and spinach, again delicious and very enjoyable. Inside is luvly with wooden carvings, wall decorations and chandelier type lighting, its very spacious and welcoming. We really njoyed both our visits, the pasta dishes we saw being served also looked delicious. Worth a visit. :) :)

We travel a lot and visited thouthands restaurants, but this is the first time we have encountered such an attitude. We ordered three drinks and one large pizza for three of us. When the pizza arrived, I asked for extra plates. The waiter in very unpleasant, almost rude way said that if we want plates, we need to order a pizza for each, not share. We didn't know that we had to ask the waiter how much we need to eat. Very strange behaviour.

The Walsumer Hof is a classic fish restaurant located near the Rhine River in Duisburg. It is known for serving delicious mussels, smoked fish, fried fish, and fish soup. Classic fish restaurant near the Rhine River. We had just taken a little walk along the Rhine River with the dogs and we stopped by this restaurant.A waiter walked up to the car and gave us a sample of roasted potatoes with bacon. If he had not done this, we may have driven away. And the potatoes were tasty and slightly greasy, we we really wanted to try the restaurant. They serve schnitzel and sausage, but because this is primarily a fish restaurant, that’s what all four of us ordered. Our meals were cooked quickly, and perhaps less than 15 minutes. The waiters were very friendly and offered us a menu that included a history of the restaurant in the local town. There were some cute donkeys and a goat grazing next to the restaurant. I think the kids would enjoy seeing them. The waiters brought our food out to the car, and added some extra potatoes. The food was served hot. On the side we had some french fries, and cabbage salad. We all enjoyed our fish. It was not the best I’ve ever tasted, but it was good. I’m glad we tried out this restaurant, and you should give it a try too.

Wonderful service and food! The fish was really excellent and the treatment almost better!we went with two kids and before we sat down chef was already there with some food for the kids. We were a bit lost with translating fish names but recomendations were right on point regarding food, way of cooking and portions! Everyone including the chef went out of their way to come greet us good bye as well. Simply above and beyond type of service. We loved it and truly recommend it.

Great experience! The chef and all staff very friendly and informal - they spoke English and went over and beyond to make you feel home and served good food, also for our child. Really a night out in a very hospitable place!

Desperately seeking goood food in Duisburg, we found it by chance! Chef owned, Chef greeted, Chef own culinary cuisine, Mathias Langhoff with his top worldly “experienced” (Raymond Blanc, etc) offers Fish and Seafood as good and fresh as it can get. Wonderful staff, Delicious food!!

Italian restaurant
Enoteca La Trattoria, located in the heart of Duisburg, is a well-known Italian restaurant with a substantial wine cellar. It has gained popularity among local businessmen and affluent patrons, many of whom have formed friendships with the host, Massimo. The restaurant offers an authentic Italian cuisine in the tradition of trattorias. Its extensive cork decoration has earned it the nickname "Korken-Italiener." Visitors have praised the generous portions and thoughtful service provided by the attentive staff.
I was welcomed by a senior waiter soon after I walked in during some busy dinner hour. That released me from the stress of exporting a new restaurant. We ordered the appetizer selection(auswahl), Pasta Vonvole(mussels), and Gnocchi Ripieni for two adults and a 9-yr-old, and we all became very full in the end. The serving is quite generous. Their service is very thoughtful and sincere. As some other customer has commented, “Not fancy, but they provide very good pasta.” I feel that comment also applies to their vibe and their service. Not fancy, but very cozy and satisfying. I have to recommend it to anyone who might be interested.

The atmosphere is quite ok, the food is quite ok, the service is attentive enough but overall I don't get the hype about the restaurant. It's pretty pricey and neither the portions nor the taste are supporting this in my opinion. Maybe it's because Duisburg and the food scene overall are so mediocre that this restaurant manages to stand out.

Delicious dinner, vibing Italian atmosphere and very welcoming waiters! Every time when in Duisburg choosing this place to have dinner with delicious wine! This time chose potato balls with cheese inside and gorgonzola sauce 😊

Make sure you specifically ask for carbonara with guanciale. Otherwise, they'll make it with regular pork belly, even though they do have guanciale. Nonna would be rolling in her grave if she found out 🙈 Other than that, solid Italian restaurant.

Nice "true Italian" restaurant. I especially enjoyed the sabaglione and the excellent choice of wine.

Food was good, but 3 bottles of wine before one was OK. One bottle too hot and one corked. Dealt with professionally by staff.
