Savona

Savona is a port city in Liguria, northwest Italy. The 1500s Priamar Fortress houses the Sandro Pertini Museum, with works by Guttuso and Miró. A 17th-century statue of Mary adorns the medieval tower Torre Leon Pancaldo. The Ceramics Museum spans the 15th century to the present. Northwest, Colle di Cadibona pass marks the start of a stretch on the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri trekking route, with sea and mountain views.

Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
The Priamar Fortress, a medieval stone fortress and former prison constructed in 1542, is a significant historical site in Savona. It now houses the Archaeological Museum of Savona and offers guided tours. The fortress overlooks the sea and provides stunning views of the coastline and the city. Inside, visitors can explore the Sandro Pertini and Renata Cuneo Museum, showcasing artistic collections donated by prominent Savona citizens.
One of the most interesting spots in Savona and surprisingly free to visit. The fortress is beautifully located on a hill that has been the heart of the city since the Bronze Age. There is also an archaeological museum inside, although it was closed when I visited. The place feels raw and austere which actually gives it a lot of charm. You can walk through the interior, explore the rooftop terraces and climb the ramparts for stunning views of the sea, the city and the mountains. Definitely worth seeing if you are in Savona.

I have always been a fan of castles and fortresses and I won't miss the chance to visit this one! You could enter the fortress without having to pay except for the museums and the current film viewing at night. At the top you could see the cityskyline and the sea! We went to one of the museums and the entrance costs 5 eur (entire price) or 3 eur (discounted price) per head. The receptionist is accomodating and well-informed of the things showcased inside the museum.

Impressive walkthrough citadelle, no entrence fee, the kids liked it. Nice to break up driving before hopping onto the ferry to Corse.

Such a nice castle! Impressive! It’s immense and wonderful!
Patrick T — Google review
When we arrived in Savona, we did not expect to see such a wonderful fortress, an incredibly beautiful place for a walk. Entrance is free. Despite the fact that the fortress has a toilet in its corners, it sometimes stinks of urine, which is disappointing but does not spoil the impression.
Tetiana N — Google review
Beautiful fortress nice city view from top
Carl K — Google review
This place is too touristy and "trampled" to be a good place for tourists to visit. But, if you love old castles and everything connected with them, you can certainly visit it. From the top there is a good view of the city and port.
Vitaliy C — Google review
A neat place and easily reached frim anywhere in Savona. Not crowded, so you really get to enjoy the fortress and its views. Always astonishing to see something this old yet in such good conditions. Respect to the keepers here. The view over the town, the Sea and the beach is just beautiful.

The All About Apple Museum is a must-see for Apple enthusiasts, boasting the world's most extensive private collection of Apple products. Visitors can immerse themselves in the history of Apple and even interact with functioning vintage computers, including the iconic Apple 3. The museum offers a unique experience for both technology enthusiasts and those interested in computer history. Located conveniently near the cruise terminal, it provides an enjoyable way to spend an hour or more exploring this remarkable collection.
Wonderful visit ! Such nostalgic old computers among the latest innovations
Jean-Philippe C — Google review
A fantastic museum! Apple computers have transcended time — a brilliant masterpiece by Steve Jobs! Highly recommended! The staff are very friendly and showcase true Italian gentlemanly charm!
Doris Z — Google review
Personally, it was really amazing to experience the history of Apple. Most of the computers was switched on and functional even after many decades of aging. There was even the Apple 3 with the console demonstration from the 80's, that means you can write code on a 38 year old computer that still works! Best experience and display of technology. Would visit again.
Gusty B — Google review
Absolutely fascinating to find this museum. It's a great place to see (we came in right next to it from the cruise ship port) - especially if you're a fan of Apple (products, history, brand) or Steve Jobs. It's so unusual but also unique. Very fun to look at and play with the computers/pieces. The only thing we wished was that they had a better merch store/gift shop. We would have loved to get a souvenir but the tshirts and mugs were not great. Overall we loved it and would recommend!
Drafac Z — Google review
This was a really cool place! Really shows the history of apple computers. Had some great information on each device.
Emma A — Google review
Wonderful place for computer and specifically apple lovers everywhere
Tal G — Google review
Nice and small museum for when you're nearby and a lover of Apple or of history. There are actual old computers you can try out, not too many though, and there's an app for both Android and iPhone, but it didn't work on both of my androids unfortunately. It's a little difficult working with the compulsory gloves and all.
Andrew Y — Google review
A truly amazingly museum both for an Apple-lover and for any fan of computer history. Almost all of the systems on display (including classics like Apple II and rarities like Apple Pippin) are turned on and can be interacted with. Right next to the cruise terminal.

Sights & Landmarks
When visiting Savona, a must-see attraction is La Torretta - Torre Leon Pancaldo. This medieval tower, also known as Torre della Quarda, stands tall at 23 meters and dates back to the 14th century. Named after the renowned explorer Leon Pancaldo, it holds historical significance as one of the city's symbols. The tower offers a glimpse into Savona's past and its ties to explorers like Magellan and Columbus.
The tower on the old port (now yachtclub and terminal for cruise ships) Impressive view when the cruise ships dock-enter-leave the port. The yachtclub and port also offers great places for lunch-dinner or just coffee

The tower of Savona. You can't miss it if you are near the sea or in the town centre. This historic landmark is woth a photo and a quick look. Lots of restaurants nearby and right next to the port where the cruise ships visit frequently. I love Savona!

The Museo della Ceramica di Savona is a stately museum housed in a medieval building that offers an intricate history of ceramic art through various exhibits. The collection features mostly terracotta ceramics from the XIV-XVII centuries, with cobalt and cobalt-ochre designs used for noble kitchenware. Additionally, there are some unique pieces of wall paintings and marble frescos on canvas.
A great exposition of rare and precious examples of the evolution in ceramics from middle ages to nowadays! Make sure to watch the film as an introduction to your visit!
Serge S — Google review
Apparently, the museum is open this night ('notti bianche'), so it's closed during daytime. This is hearsay, nothing is indicated on the building or information. Join the club of disappointed tourists in front of the building! Museum staff: please place a sign with information, do not disappoint and disrespect your customers like this.
Sander H — Google review
This museum is a gem and warrants a trip to Savona on its own. The mix of ceramics from hundreds of years ago with artefacts by contemporary artists is ideal. The collection is not overbearing and allows for a delightful stroll lasting an hour or more. The staff of the museum shines with kindness and the shop offers a small range of nice little things to buy.
Markus S — Google review
Museo a-la Provinceale. Small, but well worth of visiting. Paitings and marble works. Dated XIV-XVII, I have noticed few works not typical like marble frescos and wall paintings that were translocated to canvas. Ceramics is represented mostly by terracotta with cobalt and cobalt-ochre (I am not a specialist) kitchenette of nobles. But there are some other outstanding pieces of art, too

Restaurant
Vino e Farinata is a modest and minimalist establishment known for its excellent quality and flavors. The local specialties, such as the farinata and panissa, are cooked to perfection in a wood oven. These savory dishes can be enjoyed plain or with various toppings like onion or gorgonzola. The menu may be limited, but the generous portions ensure satisfaction. Notably, the restaurant excels in its freshly made roasted peppers, prepared on-site.
This place is an experience of its own. I just wanted a slice of farinata to go but they would only serve me a "portion" (about 5 slices for 5€) though initially it was not what I wanted it was great choice because the farinata not only was freshly baked, it was also very tasty. An alder woman came outside to hand us some napkins as she sow us devouring the farinata in the street next to our bikes, a small but very thoughtful gesture. I would love to come back and try other dishes they have, the inside was pretty full and the ambience seemed very friendly and familiar.
Patricio C — Google review
I can't stand it when the waiters aren't wearing white. If you wait tables, you must wear a white shirt. Aside from that, they are somewhat rude, but I guess this is a common trait among people in the Liguria region. Another negative point is the house wine. I dislike this sort of scam where they sell bottled house wine in 33cl bottles; that is a contradiction. House wine shouldn't be bottled. I assume they do this to squeeze every Euro possible out of you. The price is 5€ for the small bottle, meaning 15€ per liter, I find this unacceptable. This place is renowned for a local delicacy called "farinata," a type of pie made with chickpeas and baked in the oven. It's delicious and worth a try. I also ordered "vitello tonnato", a unique Italian roastbeef dish with a creamy sauce, but it was less than average—probably a leftover, something that nobody would order at this place. Overall, try this place if you want to experience local food. They have an extensive menu, not only farinata. Service and attitude could be better.
Freddi A — Google review
Lovely little place to eat farinata. We got this suggestion from Italian friends and they were so right! Easy to walk by if you don’t know this restaurant. But please go in and try! We had the chickpea and normal version. Both delicious
Boef B — Google review
The staff were friendly, adding to the authentic Italian dining experience. Great value for money too. If you’re looking for a taste of local cuisine with a cozy atmosphere, this is the place to be. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Savona!
Robin B — Google review
Incredible farinata with classia Italian vibes and a laid back feel. Good wine, fish, and pastas but do not leave without getting the farinata!
Joe A — Google review
If you want to taste the most typical dish in Savona, don't hesitate to go to this place. We took plain farinata, frisceu and farinata with onions and stracchino, delicious. Prices lower than expected, with espresso and beverages we spent 15 € each.
Max M — Google review
Delicious! From outside does look like a small shop, but is bigger then you think and a typical place with very good farinata
Marco N — Google review
Simple and spartan in its interior but certainly not for quality and taste. I enjoyed every bite of this local tradition, the farinata and panissa (respectively a wood oven cooked savory chickpea cake - which here is served also in its barley version - and a fried version). They can serve you plain, or topped with different things, from onion to gorgonzola. Choice is limited, and I'd say it's good because otherwise there would be a need of some assist to get out from the place since the portion are very generous. The best part are the roasted peppers, cooked in the oven and done at the moment. Covid19 related, this is the very first restaurant since this whole story started that I've seen fully respecting the rules.

Nestled within the Hotel Mare, A Spurcacciuna is a culinary gem on the Riviera di Ponente in Savona. This charming restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere with a contemporary dining room and a picturesque garden that overlooks the beach, perfect for summer meals. Under the expert guidance of Chef Simone Perata, A Spurcacciuna showcases a menu brimming with exquisite dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients—especially seafood delights like whitebait paired with grilled artichokes and green curry sauce.
We had an outstanding evening here! Incredible, imaginative, beautiful presentations from start to finish! We were visiting from the US, staying nearby and found this restaurant online with very positive reviews! So glad we did!

This restaurant was disappointing, they dont have any kind of raw vegetable salad, no tiramissu. Otherwise the grilled octopus was tasty

Fantastic dining experience at A Spurcacciuna in Savona, where we went for our anniversary dinner. The staff was very friendly, spoke English and accommodated our dietary requirements. The tasting menu was very inventive, delicious and played with a creative mix of local Italian specialities and international ingredients. We would definitely come back, but next time book in the summer time, so one can enjoy the beautiful outdoor terrace.

The employees at Osteria Bacco are very pleasant, and the food is also enjoyable. However, the serving sizes are extremely small, resulting in higher prices. Additionally, there is an extra charge of 12 units on the bill, including 5 for two people as a service charge and another 7 that was willingly paid without complaint. If patrons wish to leave a gratuity, they can decide how much to give because the staff deserves it for their kindness.
First night in Savona, was looking for dinner and found this wonderful place. Super delicious food, great wine. High quality service. Strongly recommend! Have plans to come back tomorrow to try other dishes.

The ladies working there are very nice. Food also taste good (just normal good). But the portions are extremely small which makes this place a bit expensive. Also 12 € added to our bill 😡 5€ for 2 people "coperto" (this is what I understand , it is everywhere so it's normal) and another 7€ ⁉️⁉️⁉️ - we paid it because I'm not one of those who makes complaints. if I want to give tip, I choose how much ... and yes, the staff working there deserves tips because they are really nice. Also all the millions of decorations everywhere . First impression it looks great. Really have a special atmosphere. But also not all.of them were clean. Fans were working and I had a feeling that some dust goes down to the plate. But they do deserve 4 stars in my opinion.

Fair price and real huge portions, but the shrimp isn't fresh, is frozen. Mussels is recommended, also the local 🍺.
Kevin D — Google review
Disappointed in the food, especially given the higher prices. We ordered tuna and trofie al pesto, but both were below average quality for Italy. The house white wine was particularly bad. Service and atmosphere were good.
Nicole P — Google review
Honestly it was so much less than expected. The service was nothing more than ok and when we wanted to sit inside their first response was no well that was something…. the food wasnt bad it was just a lot less than what we were hoping for and later when we got home everyone got a baaad stomach ache. I also have good things to say tho the owner was willing to help when we couldnt open the claw of our lobster altought we only got half for 32€ and some pasta😂

Very disappointed, we chooses this place according to the reviews. The weightier mixed up our order and refused to fix it, we had no choice but to accept the dish that we hadn’t ordered…. The food wasn’t tasty, nobody enjoyed, the shrimps were not well cooked, portions were small, service included w/o no reason…. do not recommend this place :(

When exploring the culinary delights of Liguria, one dish that stands out is Fette Panissa. This delectable street food is crafted from a simple blend of chickpea flour, water, and salt—similar to farinata but with a twist. Instead of being baked, Fette Panissa is deep-fried until golden and crispy. Served either plain in foil or tucked into a focaccia sandwich, it offers a satisfying vegetarian option that's beloved by locals and visitors alike.
The most typical local street food joint in town. Chickpeas flour "fette" deep fried and served in a small bag or in a sandwich. A must try for every visitor.

(Translated by Google) The real panissa and thank goodness there are still places like this. Those who complain should go eat elsewhere in some aseptic chain in every sense. Let's hope this piece of history never closes. (Original) La vera panissa e meno male che esistono ancora posti così. Chi si lamenta vada a mangiare altrove in qualche catena asettica in tutti i sensi. Speriamo che non chiuda mai questo pezzo di storia.

(Translated by Google) Very small and rather cramped place, with a tradition that has been handed down for over 40 years thanks to the owners themselves. I tried this typical street food out of curiosity (3 euros of panissa): the price is right and the flavor overall good, but the experience leaves something to be desired in other aspects. The oil used for frying seemed rather old and dark, and the fried smell is so intense that it literally leaves you soaked. Hygiene leaves something to be desired: the lady serving handles both food and money without wearing gloves or washing her hands.

Luna Restaurant provided a warm welcome to their Bed and Breakfast, urging guests to try their fish-based menu. Despite initial reservations about fish, they took a risk and ordered the catch of the day - locally caught sea bass. The sea bass turned out to be incredible, leaving them wondering why they hadn't tried it before. However, their favorite dish was the delicious goats cheese starter.
Fabulous food, lovely ambience and wonderful service. Second time coming here in two years, if you wish to eat anywhere in Savona eat here - it's just wonderful. And very reasonable prices. Thoroughly recommended.

We came here based on a recommendation, and we weren’t disappointed. Paolo welcomed us warmly and made us feel right at home. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was really pleasant – relaxed and inviting. The overall experience was very positive. However, the hamburger and fries for the kids were a bit dry, which is the main reason I’m not giving a full five-star rating. Aside from that, we were happy we came. Prices are on the higher side, but still reasonable considering the quality and service.
