Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Elgin Cathedral, a picturesque 13th-century ruin, boasts two intact towers and vaulted archways adorned with stone carvings. The cathedral has a tumultuous history, having endured fires, attacks, storms, and the Scottish Reformation. Despite this, it remains an enchanting site filled with medieval charm. Visitors can climb the West Front tower and the Chapter House tower to enjoy breathtaking views of Elgin and its surrounding landmarks.
Had a lovely couple of hours here. A surprising gem with much more to offer than initially meets the eye. Two accessible high towers with narrow spiral staircases are not for the faint hearted but absolutely worth the effort with excellent views from the top platform and multiple rooms with exhibitions on the way up. Some fantastic carved stone examples and lots of great photo opportunities. Staff were very helpful and happy to chat about the history. There is parking on the roads nearby which is free.
Vicky R — Google review
Very nice ruin. Well maintained. Very nice staff at main entrance who gave us a snippet of what to see and expect. Lovely view of Elgin from the top. The stairs up were well maintained, not too narrow, not a hard climb either. I do recommend. We used explorer pass to enter.
Yashoda S — Google review
Signed up for annual Historic Scotland pass. Visited the cathedral while touring the Moray Firth area. Found the site to be well kept with loads of informative information on it's history. Staff were great and answered my questions. Recommend
Russ L — Google review
remarkable abbey ruin ...would've been amazing to see in its day as what's left is looks pretty amazing ...lots carvings as well. . Even as a ruin, the cathedral shines out as one of Scotland's most ambitious and beautiful medieval buildings. Begun in 1224, Elgin was the principal church of the bishops of Moray. It lost its roof shortly after the Protestant Reformation of 1560, and later its central tower fell.

We visited Elgin Cathedral today and absolutely loved our experience. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and to our delight, we were even allowed to bring our dogs with us onto the beautiful grounds. That made the visit extra special and unforgettable for us. We are so grateful for this wonderful experience!
Laura M — Google review
Hauntingly evocative ruins in stone. Curated exhibitions in the surviving snd partially restored towers add to appreciation of the time and place when Elgin was an active cathedral. The decorative stone sculptures are unique surviving treasures; some are whimsical and others are quite skillfully made. There is a nearby parking lot for easy access.
Hannah P — Google review
This cathedral ruin was awesome, I really enjoyed walking around this place, reading all the information boards, seeing all the old stone work, and fragments. You have a great view over the entire area from the top of the tower. There are steep spiral stairs, but well worth the climb. £11 entry per adult.
Matthew T — Google review
Absolutely fantastic place to visit, with so much history and so much of the building to see, you could literally stay an entire day. Also home to Scotlands tallest gravestone, at over 5 meters long!

Distillery
Food & Drink
Visitor center
Glen Moray Distillery, located in Elgin, has a rich history dating back to 1831 when it was a brewery before transitioning to whisky production in the late 1800s. Situated on the banks of the River Lossie, this small and friendly distillery prides itself on using bourbon barrels for maturation, resulting in a delightful flavor profile. Despite changes over time, the dedication to quality remains unchanged.
We had a FABULOUS time at a tasting and in the cafe. Max was our server in the cafe and he was so helpful having us decide a whisky. They have a full menu for breakfast and lunch and very reasonable. Lots of freshly baked treats are available. They serve whisky as well! We did the tasting with Fiona and she was AMAZING. She was so informative, witty and fun. I learned so much and she was wonderful. She taught us some tricks for tasting and how to smell the different nuances in each whisky. It was wonderful. The gift shop is great as well. They have baseball hats, golf accessories, teapots, tiny bottles and shirts which aren’t available at all the shops. Of course they have whisky. It’s hard when you have to fly with weight etc and you want to bring something back for people. I would go back again in a heartbeat. Thank you for a memorable afternoon.
Cynthia S — Google review
Super interesting tour and little tasting afterwards. Our tour guide Max did a great job and was always open for any questions. Enough time to take pictures of everything. Nice little option to take the samples from the tasting with you using the driver's package for free.
Alisa G — Google review
Nice whiskey tour experience! Felt very personal and also accommodating on person in our group that had a hard time to stand still or walk to much. If you are driving you can take the whisky with you in a small glad bottle. Overall interesting and good service!
Aviaja M — Google review
Wonderful experience! It was fun to see the entire distillation process and our guide, Max, was very knowledgeable. The tasting was nice and we tried the food on site as well. Definitely worth checking out
Mike P — Google review
This place has almost everything... Great tour. Lovely visitor center with a cafe and homemade food. Pleasant staff. But their scotch was the worst of the 16 distilleries we visited, in my opinion. I give them 4 stars because scotch is based on personal taste and I am sure there are many that enjoy this, just not me. Everything else about this distillery was lovely.
Joshua W — Google review
I had an amazing time on the Explorer Tour at Glen Moray. The guide Megan was fantastic – warm, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the distillery. She made the whole experience feel really welcoming and engaging. The tour itself was excellent. It was fascinating to see each stage of the whisky-making process, but the absolute highlight for me was the warehouse. There’s just something special about standing among the casks, soaking in the history and aroma – Megan brought it all to life with great stories and insight. The tasting at the end was generous and well-curated. I ended up buying a bottle from the Private Cask Collection – the Peated Fino – which absolutely blew me away. It’s a stunning dram and a great reminder of the day. If you’re visiting Speyside, Glen Moray is definitely worth a stop. The whole experience felt personal, unhurried, and genuinely memorable. Big thanks to Megan for making it such a great visit!
George F — Google review
Glen Moray Distillery was a wonderful experience in the cute town of Elgin. The tour was very informative and gave us great insight into the process of making Scotch whisky. Afterwards, the cozy café was the perfect place to enjoy a coffee and relax. A must-visit if you’re in the area!
Deepali S — Google review
We took the Heritage Tour on 4th September with Amanda — what a treat! We learned an incredible amount about the world of whisky, both in general and specifically about how it’s made at Glen Moray. The tour ended with a generous tasting of four Glen Moray whiskies, which was a real highlight. Compared to the other distillery tours we did in Speyside, this one stood out for its depth of information, passion, and overall experience. It may have cost slightly more, but it was absolutely worth it. Thank you again, Amanda — we’d love to come back one day, maybe with friends or for a Halloween party at Glen Moray!

Moray Motor Museum, located in the center of Elgin, Scotland, is housed in a charming old mill building with a rich historical background. The museum showcases an impressive collection of vintage cars and motorbikes, including iconic models like the 1929 Roll Royce Phaontom 1 and the 1936 Jaguar SS100. Open from Easter till October each year, this museum is a must-visit for car enthusiasts.
As soon as you arrive, it still feels like a workshop, the smell and the surroundings are all appropriate for a car museum. The owner is very friendly and can tell you a lot about the history of each individual vehicle.
Marco G — Google review
I enjoyed my visit, getting to see the unicorn that is the Lamborghini Diablo Jota was well worth it on it own. The museum holds a nice little collection of cars and it was great to hear that the cars are still used for events which i can appreciate. Beautiful cars should be seen on the road from time to time 👌
Del — Google review
Even though we have been up to Elgin a few times whilst on holiday visiting family, we had never actually been here. The museum has a wonderful display of cars from different decades that are very well laid out, along with other interesting items that you can view and read about. We found Brian who works here very helpful, he knew lots of information about the cars and was very interesting to talk to throughout our visit. The museum is not too expensive to get it and a little bonus if you get time it includes a free cup of tea or coffee in the restaurant in Decoras next door. The photos are just a few of many I took during my visit.

This is an amazing collection of cars, bikes and other motoring bits. Was amazed by the rarer cars that were on show here. I can't state how great of a small museum this is. The ticket price is a lot but well worth it to see such immaculate cars. That are still used. A must visit in Elgin.

Amazing place. Small museum but absolutely great. You feel the energy and soul of this old cars... Very kind gentleman tell you a lot of stories about the cars. I was there and...I don't want to go back to real life. You look at this cars, so many details and you know that people with passion created them. For me absolutely great place.

Iain was an amazing guide and there are so so many classic and new cars including a sick lambourghini diablo and even a 1905 taxi. Brightened up my afternoon! And for the people saying you have to pay cash, you don't currently have to as they accept cards.

This a fascinating museum of veteran, vintage, and classic cars and motorbikes from one person's private collection. The staff are both knowledgeable and helpful. The museum is accessible for people on wheelchairs and scooters.

Specialty Museums
The Elgin Museum, established in 1843, is a significant landmark in Elgin and the oldest independent museum in Scotland. It showcases local history, natural history, art, archaeology, and much more. The museum's collection includes authentic artifacts dating back to 1867 related to the history of firefighting as well as exhibits on Scottish history with a Moray perspective. Visitors can explore fossils, Pictish stones, vintage uniforms, and relics from the Great Chicago Fire.
So many different time periods on display - Each display has a laminated A4 booklet in a pocket at the side of it Disabled parking nearby; as well as ramp facilities on the lower levels of the exhibits however these would be for seemingly narrow wheelchairs. Helpful and informative staff as soon as you enter the museum and plenty of informational panflets and books about the area and items on display. Entry is free however it is Absolutely worth a donation either at the front counter of in any of the donation boxes around the exhibits. Opening hours just now (30/04/2023) are Wednesday to Sunday and they close at 16:00 and last entry into the facility is 15:30. It's a good place to take children of all ages and there is a ground floor and a first floor. There aren't any food or drink restrictions but clearly be respectful if asked to disregard anything. Only one exhibition requested no photography or filming, and generally there are signs requesting not to touch or interact with exhibits so keep an eye out for signs. The Shop section has limited items most are locally sourced or made and there are items such as toys for children, keychains, scarves and tops, history books of the area, jewellery, and local made ceramic art. Definitely visit if you have a chance - it's peaceful and you can take your time (provided you don't show up near closing time of course)

A great collection, well presented, telling the story of both Elgin and the region. The collection is nicely organised into themes and there are some very special collections including geology and Pictish history. FREE to visit so well worth visiting again and again to enjoy different aspects of the collection.

A fantastic little museum with a variety of exhibits to see and learn about. The staff were lovely, helpful and knowledgeable too. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area as it’s free (although donations are welcome) and a great way to spend half an hour or so.
Jenni E — Google review
A small but very well organised and displayed museum with a strong local flavour featuring informative exhibits and accompanying explanations. I found the fossil and geology exhibits most interesting. We were nicely welcomed by friendly staff.
John D — Google review
Looks small in the outside but is absolutely jam packed with collections and information. Lovely volunteers who are knowledgeable and helpful.

Elgin Museum is free to visit and well worth a stop if you find yourself visiting the area and are interested in local Scottish history. There are many exhibits covering from pre-Pictish to Victorian times - the staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable and the gift shop has some amazing and affordable purchases to be found, from clothing to Scottish / local history books. We bought two high quality Elgin Museum Lambswool Scarves, made from local millers for only £4 each, which have made for great, practical keepsakes of our time in the area. Very impressed overall with the passion and drive put behind this free museum, which does not receive any governmental funding - especially when you compare it to places like Inverness!!

Johnstons of Elgin is a renowned Scottish brand that has been supplying cashmere since 1797. Located in Elgin, the family-owned company offers elegant clothing and home accessories in their mill shop. Visitors can also enjoy a cafe with historical significance, showcasing the depth of water during a past flood. The company provides free tours of its 220-year-old mill, where raw cashmere is transformed into beautiful garments.
Very interesting place to visit. So much history. I recommend taking the tour thru the facilities. Really brings to life what goes into making everything. The cafe is an added treat, where the food and drinks were excellent

The tour around the mill was a real pleasure. The tour guide was friendly and we got a close-up look at wool processing and the machinery. Unfortunately the luxury items in the shop were too expensive for us. The cafe at the back was charming.

My friend and I took a tour with Maura - she is a fantastic guide! Her passion and enthusiasm shows in every bit of information she shared with us, and the knowledge we gained was so insightful and interesting. Would absolutely recommend taking a tour to anyone!
Gianna T — Google review
The cafe staff don’t welcome pushchairs/prams. Whenever I have been in with my baby, I have been made to feel unwelcome band like I’m putting the staff out because I have a pram with me, even more so if there are a group of us! We have tried calling before hand to reserve tables, and have been told that we cannot come at lunch time or been told we need to leave before the lunchtime rush. Not the way to make a group of mums, or any customers for that matter, feel welcome or valued. We meet often and so you are losing a lot of business from local residents.
Charlotte M — Google review
An outstanding tour , one that my guests commented on the most! A long history of fine quality goods, and one of the last of its kind. The guides are lovely and it obvious they love working here. Don’t expect cheap touristy souvenirs- you’ll find only the highest quality of traditional woven cashmere & wool goods, lifetime pieces you won’t regret!

Must of been here 5 or 6 times now, so can't be bad as I keep going back. Good choice of food and drink, never had any issues with the staff. Looks like a good place for family with active children. Thank you Brewers Fayre for a decent cooked breakfast.
Stu's T — Google review
I'm not really sure if this establishment is still operating under Brewers Fayre as the staff were wearing the uniform of the adjacent Premier Inn. However the staff were pleasant and efficient. The food was good, although I found the menu very limited. Starters/ small plates, main course consists of burgers, two chicken curries, mac and cheese, salad, pizza and linguine. Sides and desserts.
Gilbert R — Google review
The restaurant it self is homely and quaint. All though slightly loud it was most enjoyable. The food was over all good but for me the brie was over cooked. However that being said the sirloin steak was cook perfectly. Overall it was a great night out and would recommend this restaurant to anyone especially for familiy groups.

Enjoyed the smothered platter and black forest sundae on the evening before taking part in Ride the North cycling event. The meal was exactly what I wanted. It was great to have calorie information on the menu. Staff were really friendly and very helpful. Plenty of free customer parking. I'd definitely recommend this venue.

Staff were really nice but the food was a disgrace. See pics for what I ordered and what I got; is there still such a thing as The Trades Description Act. They should be ashamed to put that out and charge £9.95 for it. Avoid this place.

The Drouthy Cobbler is a laid-back tavern and cocktail bar located just off the east end of Elgin's High Street. It offers a cozy setting to enjoy seasonal comfort food, specialty cocktails, and coffee. The bar has a classic cocktail list with some unique twists, and guests can also savor small plates from the kitchen indoors or outdoors in the lane or garden when weather permits. The venue is known for its warm and friendly atmosphere, with welcoming lights and plants at the entrance.
Lovely place in Elgin, nice atmosphere, attentive service. I entered as a single guest and was treated with great care. I liked the whole ambiance and the food. I would come here again, for sure.

A hidden gem in Elgin! Lovely place tucked away behind an archway – you might miss it if you’re not looking carefully. I came here looking for ice cream on a warm day, and surprisingly, it was the only place in Elgin that had any! The menu is diverse and appealing, and the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. They also have outdoor seating on a quiet little alley with fairy lights – absolutely charming atmosphere. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Elgin, whether for a meal, a drink, or just a treat like I did!
V. M — Google review
Came down into Elgin whilst touring the Highlands, and found this gem of a restaurant hidden down an alleyway in the High Street. The outdoor seating area is very cute, and we were a little early (doesn’t open until 12), so we sat and chilled whilst we waited. The food came very quickly, and was beautifully presented. I was extremely excited for my shepherds pie. It tasted DELICIOUS. Really well made, rich sauce and yummy. My only criticisms were that it wasn’t piping hot which was a shame, and that it could’ve used a vegetable on the plate to break up the soft texture - especially when priced at £23.00. The fish & chips was incredible - easily the softest fish and lightest batter we’ve ever had. 100% recommend. The staff were super friendly too, and we would definitely return.
Emily K — Google review
We were lucky to get a table without a reservation – the restaurant is quite busy. The food is traditional and truly recommendable. Friendly and attentive service.

Been around 4 times in 2 weeks. Consistently great, staff are attentive and friendly. Cozy little location and interior is well designed and aesthetic. Food is very hearty and wide range of selections, do enjoy the chicken pie and tagliatelle. The waiter who is new, but so charismatic, interested and energetic - please keep shining. Would say this is probably the best spot in Elgin.

Can’t fault the service! So nice and welcoming over the phone and in person which really brightens your day at a time like this. The food is always amazing and fairly priced, plus they add a portion of spring rolls for free.. We recently starting going here and will never change again as the food is great but the service is what makes us come back every week.. Cannot recommend highly enough 🥰
Destiny G — Google review
After waiting over 45mins in the takeaway, I had to throw it in the bin 😒 the crispy chilli chicken was soggy and was so over powered by chilli it was inedible (the chicken was also frozen not fresh). The salt n pepper chips they charge £4.40 for were actually frozen cooked chips (which were still hard) sprinkled with paprika seasoning, not nice at all - also thrown in the bin. The beef and duck with egg fried rice was very dry, my husband loves chinese food and said it was ok but he's had much better elsewhere. Unfortunately we won't be getting our food from here again.

Will never be going back avoid at all costs all the family had food poisoning and was made unwell they all had noodles and lucky I had rice and I was ok but will defo not be going back the only good thing about it was the chips and my boyfriend had to get rushed to hospital as it affected him so much so if u don’t want food poisoning then avoid at all costs not worth £30 odd pound

Tried them all in Elgin, this Chinese still do Chowmain the old way which I love, rich in dark soya, special Chowmain comes with large prawns 8 of them. Other takeaways I have had use those new gloopy noodles (seems the new trend) , and mini prawns. The bonus is they always give you prawn crackers for free and sometimes free spingrolls wong tongs etc

Pizza restaurant
Scribbles is a pizza restaurant located in the center of Elgin, which offers a fantastic dining experience. While it can be quite noisy due to the high number of tables in a small space, the food and service are both excellent. The restaurant provides good value for money, although drinks can be pricey. It is particularly accommodating to families with children and has no on-site parking available. However, there are some steps present, but if requested, the staff will readily provide portable ramps.
Really great place! If you have the change hope you have Lucy as a waitress as she was super friendly and nice to everyone (give her a raise and a bonus!!) The food was delicious. I got the hot n spicy pizza deep dish and it was awesome!! You can tell the crust is homemade by the flavor. Was dripping with awesomeness and they didn’t skimp on the toppings. My wife loved the Mac platter, daughter got the burger, and friend got the kabab platter. The fries were spicy yet so good! Really good place overall. Will come back again

June 2025 Busy Friday so service was slow but you can't complain cos these guys work their socks off....food was ok. I had the chicken pasta which was fine but not brilliant....portion was huge...too much for me. Ice cream and slice with coffee for dessert. May 2025 Popped in for coffee and a treat....great choice of sweet treats and scones. Service outstanding as usual March 2025 Lunch on the busiest Friday of the month...have to say the staff were amazing....running around greeting, serving and clearing with a smile on their faces. Atmosphere was a bit manic during the busiest period but it was full so to be expected. Menu choice is great with plenty of veggie options. And great idea to have 3 different size pizzas. I had a chicken and bacon salad which was great but the dish was too small which meant it was difficult to cut things up. Coffees and desserts great too but would have liked sauce and wafers on the ice cream sundae. Very reasonable prices overall but the wines looked expensive £10.20 for a 250ml glass....and limited choice of wines by the glass. Be going back again soon.

Had lunch at Scribbles today, unplanned, so hadn't booked, managed to get a table. Food was absolutely delicious, hubby had the macaroni with a side of chips, I had the sticky chicken noodles ( wow, these were so so tasty) portions were excellent and really good value. Our waitress was Helen, excellent service from her, polite, chatty and made sure to ask if everything was okay. Scribbles never fail to please 🤩😋

Pub
Restaurant
The cuisine at Granary pub, which can be conveniently ordered via their mentioned app, is truly delightful. The speed of service in delivering both food and drinks to the table is commendable. All dishes are impeccably presented, appetizing in taste, and even their selection of beverages - including a cola, fruit shoot, and shandy - are satisfyingly refreshing. The shandy itself strikes a pleasing balance between carling beer and lemonade.
Came in past here mid afternoon. Service was very good and the facilities good also. WiFi and clean toilets. I had 2 courses chicken tacos for a starter and the Katsu Chicken which was very good. My girlfriend had a sirloin steak but it had a rather peculiar taste. However we will return another day if we are in the area.

Great pub. Food spot on. So good in fact, we went back the 2nd day.

Felt compelled to leave another review for the Granary, a group of us are in every Sunday and are treated extremely well by all the staff, to be fair its easy to say they spoil us. Its not table service when you are in just for drinks but we never once had to go to the bar, drinks were always brought to our table. They have catered for us in the past with our Christmas Sunday Club in which the table was decorated and nibbles provided without being asked for which was a great gesture. For myself and the other guys its always 5 star service we receive.

Overall, I was very satisfied with both the service and the quality of the meal, and I would gladly recommend Granary to anyone looking for a great breakfast and a pleasant atmosphere.
