Botanical garden
Nature & Parks
Gardens
Giardini la Mortella is a stunning hillside garden in Forio, featuring a diverse collection of tropical and Mediterranean flora, enchanting water features, and breathtaking bay views. Originally purchased by the renowned English composer Sir William Walton in 1949, with the help of landscape architect Russel Page, it was transformed into a paradise. The gardens boast an array of rare plants including the celebrated Gingko Biloba and the mesmerizing Victoria Amazonica.
I'm a gardener so I'm always keen to visit a botanical garden wherever I go, but this one is truly spectacular. A mystical panoply of all types of plants from different regions. Some really special orchids and water plants. Nooks, ponds and rockeries galore. Highly recommend. You could easily spend all day there so be careful. Really good price for the wonders on offer. Enjoy!

While the beauty and care with which the gardens have been cultivated are truly admirable, my visit was unfortunately overshadowed by the fact that smoking is permitted within the grounds. Allowing visitors to smoke in such a serene, carefully preserved natural environment is not only detrimental to the air quality and atmosphere but also deeply detracts from the experience for those who come seeking peace, beauty, and inspiration. The gardens, created over many years with such dedication and vision, deserve to be enjoyed in a setting that respects their tranquility and ecological integrity. Sadly, the presence of cigarette smoke made it difficult to fully appreciate the space and ambiance that Sir William Walton and Lady Susana Walton so lovingly brought to life. I strongly urge the Foundation to reconsider its policy on smoking within the gardens. Implementing a non-smoking rule would preserve the healthful environment, enhance the experience for all visitors, and align more closely with the spirit of harmony and reflection that La Mortella was clearly intended to embody.

Gorgeous gardens (ticket 12 €), quite large, so you will spend some time here. There is even a small cafe bar with some food right under the Greek theater (you can also find toilets here, next to the theater). We also caught the concert in the evening from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM and the ticket cost only 8 €. Fallowing the song for parking and ticket office if you are by car (around 1 km from down, another entrance by foot).

This is a must-visit-place if you visit Ischia! The place is incredible, and there's so many wonderful, beautiful and unique places. Make sure to have plenty of time, and it is a big garden and theres quite a lot of walking, paths up and down, elevations and stairs. At the very top and bottom, trees offer you a bit of shade and fresh air. The the levels in between, the sun and stairs can make it an incredibly warm experience. Make sure to bring water and something for your blood sugar if it is a very warm day. The place is relatively easy to reach by public transportation. Parking is a bit more tricky, however if you enjoy a slightly challenging drive on small roads there's a small parking lot at the very top of the garden.

If you’ve visited botanical gardens in other major cities (500,000+ population), this one won’t surprise you — it’s pleasant, but quite standard. Plan for about an hour to see everything. One important tip: there are a lot of tiger mosquitoes here. If you’re not familiar with them, look them up and make sure to bring repellent — it will make your visit much more enjoyable.

Beautiful environment, full of different plant species. 🌿 Highly recommend getting tickets for the concert they host it’s an amazing experience with incredible views! 🎶✨

A stunning set of gardens. Tranquil and inspiring. We also enjoyed an outdoor concert one evening whichbwas also a joy with all the scent from the garden mixing in with the frogs chorus from the ponds. Cant recommend more highly. Wegot there for when it opened at 9 as it was cooler and less busy.

Definitely worth the price and super nice to get some shade in there when it's super hot outside. Make sure to keep in mind the guided tour groups that might arrive on the daily around 10:30-11-30am

Mountains
Mount Epomeo, a 2,589-foot volcanic mountain located on the island of Ischia, offers a diverse range of landscapes and attractions. From sunny beaches to pine forests and green hills, the area provides ample opportunities for invigorating walks and excursions. The island's volcanic origin is evident in its eight thermo-basins, springs, geysers, and arenas known for their therapeutic properties. Additionally, the local microclimate supports exceptional fruit and vegetable production.
An amazing place that becomes even more beautiful during the sunset or the sunrise. The hike from Fontana is short but steep. Wearing good shoes is a must especially on the way down where it can be slippery. From the top, a 360 degrees view can be observed. You can see Capri, the Vesuve and the golf of Naples.
Benjamin — Google review
Worth a visit, view is spectacular. We came before 10 am, very few people. Recommended to visit early in the day both because the temperature is lower and it becomes very crowded at the top.
Vidar H — Google review
Fantastic mount to climb. Way is not really hard but be sure to take comfortable boots as it takes to climb about 300m from bus stop. Views are worth it, if You like nature - get in there!

Beautiful view from the top of the island. The hike is short but steep. Not for the faint of heart. Parking was full so we had to park on road down the hill.

Mount Eponeo is a great day out, walk 2500 feet. That’s how high it is so great pathways it’s not too difficult. It takes about an hour to walk up. Beautiful little stopoff you can park the bikes if you want to drive up halfway really really friendly guy who works there beautiful little Shop walk all the way up to the top is also a restaurant on the walk up but their are many viewing points we can see CAPRI you can see Sorrento and you can see the whole of esky Island , definitely recommended
Rhys G — Google review
Go all the way to the top if you’re up for it and have sure footing! The first hill up the long concrete road is steep, flanked by lovely local plants on either side. The dirt path up the mountain is also steep and sometimes Barry, sometimes large rocks, but not impossible (I am active and strong, but am not a Cross Fit junkie, and there were a wide variety of folks at the top). The very top of the rock might be a lot for those who are afraid of heights, but there is a guard rail to hold for balance and the view is absolutely beautiful. I got a limone arance mista juice at the top restaurant and had a heart lunch / dessert at La Porta di Agartha Ristorante afterward (a bit further back down from the tip top) which I highly highly recommend. I started around 11:30am-ish and took my time, and by the time I got to Agartha restaurant it was about 1:00pm.
Sasha N — Google review
Good to bring a walking stick or two, it helps when you reach the portion of the hike where trekkers have worn down the rocks to narrow channels over centuries. Unexpectedly, the restaurant at the top was open in mid-November. When the last 30 feet had too much vertical exposure for me, I was able to retreat to the lovely terrace and enjoy a beer while I waited for my daughter. It took me an hour to reach the top, climbing at an easy pace. I probably wouldn’t do it in mid-summer though, too hot and crowded.
K F — Google review
The view is amazing, I was able to see the whole island! Be prepared for an 1h hiking uphill. Bring some water, some proper shoes and some energy. You will not regret it!

Park
Giardini Poseidon Terme is a large thermal park in Forio, Ischia, offering over 20 pools with healing thermal waters and a private beach. It's known for its pleasant combination of nature and thermal resources, featuring pools at different temperatures, waterfalls, sunbathing areas, wellness and beauty treatments all set amidst lush Mediterranean vegetation. The location provides panoramic views and various amenities such as a solarium, gym, and vineyard for leisurely walks.
An amazing experience! Went with my family, including a toddler and 6 month old and found it convenient and kid friendly enough. While the children aren’t allowed near the hot/ cold pools, there is a large enough area for them with 3 pools and ample seating. The space is gorgeous with every detail thought of. Highly recommend and will be back!
Call M — Google review
Proof if any were needed of the geothermal activity in the Bay of Naples. Although children are not permitted to enter the main hot pools, there are pools where they can happily play if supervised by an adult so it isn't too restrictive. My wife had a great time in the hot pools and sauna while i looked after our little one. For us this was a great day out from Sorrento where we were staying and involved an enjoyable ferry trip from Sorrento harbour,

Such a beautiful park! My husband, 1.5 year old son, and I visited for the day. Kids aren’t allowed in the thermal park so we stayed by the kids pools and switched off enjoying the spas. Such a relaxing experience at a great value. We got lunch at the cafe as well. The pool areas were clean and spacious and everyone there was respectful. One of the highlights of our trip.

Wow. Amazing day trip from Sorrento. Can’t recommend enough. Tons of restrooms and changing areas. Hundreds of chairs and umbrellas free of charge. Free locker to leave belongings. Affordable delicious food. Mostly locals
Gerard C — Google review
Super clean, nice and relaxing atmosphere. There are free lockers and many changing areas. Two restaurants for breakfast and lunch, not too many choices, but there are some still. You need a whole day to visit everything and enjoy the park’s diversity.
Cristea A — Google review
Great experience for a day. The entry is 50 € per person for the whole day. You can choose in any area a sunbed for the day. They have a bar open all day with drinks, desserts and sandwiches and a restaurant with food till 4pm I think. The pools are clean and with Ward water from 32 to 40°. It's worth the experience for a day if you stay 7 days on the island.

This is a large thermal bath complex with many pools and beautiful landscaping. The position, on a side of a hill all the way to the sea, with its own private beach, leads to breathtaking and mesmerizing views. This place is really a gem.

Beautiful thermal spa in Ischia. Make a reservation online to reserve the seats you want. We also had lunch there at the restaurant. Lunch was also very good. Salt water pools. Hot pools. Cold pools. A beautiful spa. Right on the beach…the Bay of Citara.

Negombo is a stunning thermal park located in Lacco Ameno, Italy. The annual event held at the park brings together nurserymen, artisans, and collectors from all over Italy. Visitors can explore rare plants and indulge in gastronomic delights. Other popular thermal parks in the area include Poseidon Gardens in Forio and Castiglione Vanitello in Casamicciola.
There is only 1 hot spring coming from the ground through a pipe. The sea was cold crisp in April. I visited on Easter. The view is amazing! It was worth the long trip down, through the vegetation. This is for the public beach near Negombo (free). Mind the pictures to make your way down shorter!

Beautiful gardens with private space, very peaceful. Better suited to guests with younger members as the pools are slightly cooler. Nice places to eat and shopping opportunities. The pools are naturalistic and might be tricky for people with mobility or sight issues,(lots of unlevel steps in and out of the water) But I really wouldn't let that put you off. This place is stunning and I'd definitely recommend spending a day there.

We've been in Naples for six days. On the seventh day we rested here. Fabulous retreat. The thermal baths were divine.
Clay L — Google review
Came here on a super rainy day and it was beautiful! It is EMPTY at the beginning of October. The pools up on the cliffside were magical. Would return again! Only small downside is that if you rent a towel (8euros), to get a dry one (and it was pouring the whole time) you have to pay again. I understand but it seemed like a little bit of a cash grab since the park is already 90+ euros for two people.
Elizabeth M — Google review
Beautiful place but some disappointments. - The setting is extraordinary and without equal. The beach is perfect. It is a 20 minute And 30 Euro taxi ride from the main port. - All over Italy, water fountains are running and plentiful. Not at Negombo. Despite paying the equivalent of over $100 for 2 people, the only drinking water available is for sale. Stating hydrated after thermal baths is important, and Negombo makes you pay. - You pay the equivalent of $10 more to rent a single towel. Plus a $15 deposit on the towel that is returned to you as you give the wet towel back. But their refusal to exchange a soaking wet cold towel for a fresh dry one after you have used it all day is a surprisingly stingy element if the operation. - The squatting toilets are unpleasant and challenging for many. If management could simply address the 3 issues above (water, towels and toilets), this would be a 5 star experience.
Mark K — Google review
A brilliant thermal spa and beach place. It costs €100 for 2 adults for a full day but there’s lot a to see with many thermal pools a great beach and normal pool’s. Lots of facilities on site including toilets and changing rooms. Lockers are free but cost you a returnable €20 deposit. Your entry price includes 2 subbed 2 deck chairs and an umbrella. Towels cost to hire so bring your own. Several restaurants on site nothing too pricey. Lots of locals do it must be good. Plenty of undercover parking and in the Italian summer that’s worth it. Easy to get from Ischia Porto on a regular bus service €5 for a full day bus pass!
Mike T — Google review
This park is supposedly “kid friendly.” First there are no pools where young kids can walk around. One kid pool is 5 feet deep and other one is approx 4. I guess if your kids are 10+ then yes, but otherwise for younger kids, no. Poseidon is much better with pools for younger kids. There are good staff and very rude staff. My young son needed a toilet with a seat and there was one which the employee refused to open. Tl:dr: go to Poseidon if you have young kids. This park is not kid friendly and some staff are quite rude. If you want to go to the beach, just walk further to free beach and if you want t shade, there is free shade along the cliffs.

This is a beautiful resort. The spectacular beauty of the setting, the way all of the processes and the recreation areas are set up, the quality of the food & drinks, and the very nature of the wonderful thermal salt water pools are all terrific and enjoyable. It is a calm and enjoyable place, as it is spread out across many separate areas, yet easy to get around and enjoy the variety of settings and pools. There was nothing that I did not like about our visit. A total relaxing and amazing experience!

La Vigna Di Alberto is a renowned restaurant in Barano d'Ischia, known for its farm-to-table experience and stunning views. Situated high above Lacco Ameno, the restaurant boasts its own vineyards and vegetable gardens, reflecting Chef Alberto Iacono's dedication to organic farming and sustainable cuisine. Guests can indulge in a variety of dishes, from handmade pastas to grilled meats and seasonal vegetables, all prepared with fresh ingredients.
Went jul24. don’t take online, WhatsApp or email booking - by phone only. Don’t speak English, so booking is hard for some of us. Restaurant not sign posted, just a door bell. There is a car park but it only takes cash and Italian only instructions . An Italian friend booked over the phone for us, but when we got there, there was no sign of our booking. Kindly they managed to squeeze us in. This is an extremely local , old school restaurant- one of only a handful on the island . They produce their own red wine, but I’m afraid it wasn’t to my taste. We were served the mixed starters before sitting down and before being shown any menu. The starters consisted of four or five mixed courses including mussels and tomato sauce, pizza, bread and mozzarella with tomatoes. we were presented a menu for the main course and I ordered pasta with a fillet steak. However a sirloin steak arrived which was a lower price point on the menu, however they still charged the price of the fillet steak. Steak was under-seasoned - tried asking for salt and pepper a few times but it didn’t arrive, so steak went uneaten. In summary a fantastically beautiful and local restaurant though quite challenging for non-Italian speakers.

WOW. We had a great experience here. This was something different. This was BY FAR our favorite spot on our trip to Ischia! We had accidentally found this restaurant, thanks to google maps, reading the positive reviews and have tried to see the „old Italien school“ restaurant. Entrance is a little difficult to find, one must ring at to enter. Accidentally, we got a table without reservation and so many great things to say! The food was absolutely delicious and so very fresh. The staff were so kind and welcoming. We loved the atmosphere with live music and overall location. Stunning view from above we had. Highly recommended.

The food was excellent! The mushroom risotto was the best dish we have had in our vacation. The music and vibes were amazing. We really enjoyed our dinner there. They got us three appetizers, and we got to choose the main dishes and the dessert from a set menu. If you want to try authentic italian dishes, this is the place that you should visit!

A great experience with amazing food and friendly staff. A true hidden gem. Worth the drive up the hill. Keep an eye out for the gate though, there is a big car park opposite.
Oscar S — Google review
Food was amazing, the atmosphere is also mesmerizing. However the staff could be a bit more smiling and welcoming. Personally for me it felt a bit awkward. The wine that they produce tastes amazing! It is written online that they take card, but when you go there the first think they say is that they take only cash! You also don’t get a lot of food for the money! Dishes are not kid friendly, since they are chilli/peppery. Overall ok experience, concerning taste and location, but I would not go there again.
Dima G — Google review
The restaurant is situated at a very nice and different location with views from the island's mountains. The menu is fixed with a limited amount of choices, but is designed in order to have them all work together extremely well. All of the dishes we got to try were very good and all of the portion sizes were abundant. We received various appetizers, some bottles of water, pasta, risotto, meat, sausages, and three different desserts and ended up paying a stunning low bill of 60€ for 2 people. The staff was very friendly and service was extremely fast and efficient.

This is my favorite restaurant on Ischia. This was actually the second time we ate here, and it was even better than two years ago. We had the set menu, portions were generous and each of the courses had distinct flavours. We paired it with a lovely bottle of a local natural wine (Bajola). Our dinner was genuinely exciting and outpaced the other Michelin guide restaurant in the town of Forio. When we return to Ischia, returning here is a no-brainer!

The service was also excellent- friendly, polite, with dishes coming one after the other but not too quickly. Enjoyed it a lot. You have to reserve in advance in a summer season because there aren’t so many tables and it gets full!

Pizza restaurant
Ristorante Pizzeria la Bella Napoli al Porto has a rich history, with its roots tracing back to the opening of the first La Bella Napoli by Chef Serafino in Monterone in December 1980. The restaurant quickly gained popularity for its delicious cuisine and mouthwatering pizzas. After 30 years, Ciro and his friend Leopoldo revived the renowned name by opening Ristorante Pizzeria la Bella Napoli al Porto.
As if these guys needed my praises: the whole gang is so pleasant and relaxed, attentive and helpful, and despite its prime tourist venue location it offers an extremely good value for money. It’s not cheap if you go beyond pizzas and such but every euro extra is worth it. The food is of the highest standard, creative and traditional at once, the house tagliatelle with porcini and squid floored me and the pistachio ricotta biscuit cup was the coup de grace that rolled me over to the Spiaggia di Chiaia like a contented pussycat after 💝

Will not even exaggerate saying it's in the current top-3 of my favourite restaurants. I visited it at the end of March, right after the opening. The best eggplant parmigiana I’ve ever had in my life (coming from a vegetarian who always orders this dish everywhere). The family who owns the place is so sweet. We went for lunch and dinner (it was that good), and neither disappointed. Thank you for the hospitality, for the dedication at what you do, and for keeping your roots. Grazie mille 🫶🏻

Since I live in Naples, my expectations are kind of high. I made a great search to find this restaurant but the food wasn’t perfect. It was good but not perfect. To begin with, octopus carpaccio was mid, combining it with corn was weird. The squid was also mid but the pumpkin sauce was good. Gnocchi lacked salt, it was also very mid. The best thing was the gamberi I tried. The atmosphere and the environment was very good. 2 antipasti, 1 pasta, 2 secondi and 1 bottle of wine was 150 euros.

We were able to get a last minute reservation here and it could not have turned out to be a better night. Luigi, Vanessa, and Antonio were so fun and inviting. My husband and I enjoyed our last dinner on Ischia at this lovely family owned and operated restaurant. The atmosphere, wait staff and food were all top notch. Their homemade Lemon cake and Chocolate Lava cake were a decadent way to end the meal.

A big surprise to us. Really good food. Maybe even the best parmigiana I ever had. Fish on point. Wines of course also since that is their main competence. We saw the kitchen crew. Very sympathetic people. Service was also top notch. She could easily handle a Guide Michelin restaurant with her presence. Very nice rural area. PS: During the last years, I saw many overrated restaurants across Italy. Restaurant where people with just a few reference points said "best food ever". Oftentimes I left these restaurants from simple Osterie to Michelin disappointed. Here, I can say that this restaurant is underrated. They want to impress.

We arrived with a family of 3, and asked if we could sit in a table of 4, which had 2 tables together. We were told no, that it is for bigger company. After us came a party of 3, and they were okay to sit to that table. We ordered 8 euros lasagnes and it came out from the microwave, so we really didn't feel to try any bruschetta or anything else after that. And won't be returning.

Probably the best bruschetta in our trip in this small unassuming place. Massive portion, fresh and tasty. We also had the pasta pomodoro and a salad. Drinks were reasonable, service was quick!

Don't judge this place by the outside. What looks like a Shack from the street is actually an oasis on the water and it has everything you are looking for! A family run business and Gino leads the crew with an attentive eye and multilingual charm. The prices are more than fair especially considering the views from every seat of the water. The food is truly impressive with large portions (we shared a panini) and great taste. No air conditioning needed as fully covered and ocean breezes are free. Bathrooms and beach area as well. Overall a fantastic pit stop if you are in the area.
