Collioure

Collioure is a town on the Mediterranean coast of southern France. On the sea, the medieval Château Royal de Collioure offers dramatic coastal views. The bell tower of 17th-century Notre-Dame-des-Anges Church was once a lighthouse. The Modern Art Museum includes paintings by Henri Matisse. Nearby is the Moulin de Collioure, a 14th-century windmill. South, the hilltop Fort St. Elme has a museum with medieval weapons.

Nestled atop a hill overlooking the picturesque village of Collioure, Fort Saint Elme is a remarkable star-shaped fortress that dates back to 1552. Originally constructed under the reign of Charles V, this military stronghold was designed to protect against potential invaders and boasts impressive eight-meter-thick walls. Although currently closed to visitors, its commanding presence can be admired from afar as it towers over the pebbled beaches below.
Tricky ride up to the fort but once there breathtaking b Views across the bay. Entrrence to the castle was £8 per adult an well worth the visit. An excellent example of a fort built in the age of gunpowder

Fort Saint Elme is currently closed (nil signage as to why at the location), however the surrounding views are beautiful and the walk is gorgeous. Recommend walking up and back if you’re in Collioure, rather than driving.
Duncan P — Google review
Really interesting visit and great value. Lots of local history. There’s a combination ticket with the local Petit Train from Collioure which gives a local guided tour. Follow the visit with a hike back into town through vineyards with spectacular views.
Chris B — Google review
it is advisable to either take the petite train to the top of the fort, it's a spectacular view around the coast, and the winding roads snaking up to the mountain a wonder. I would then advise to take time to walk around the fort as the train only stops for a few minutes before returning. you can then walk down if it's not too hot to enjoy the smell and scenery of the vineyards. It is about an hour back down towards Coullier, otherwise wait for the next train which will be about the same time.
RJ C — Google review
Great views of the town below and surrounding countryside, a bit expensive I thought and the access road is very narrow, so take your time if you go.
Mike C — Google review
Amazing views of Colliure, the coast and the hill. Toddlers love it, they can borrow knight costumes and soft play swords.
Maria S — Google review
I have been looking up at this Fort from my studio so was very impressed by the building itself, the history along with the staff working there.!
Miss S — Google review
Very nicely restored fortress with extensive and well-displayed medieval armaments, tools of combat. Good historical information posted. 360 degree views of the Mediterranean and Pyrenees from atop the fortress.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
The Royal Castle of Collioure is an ancient castle complex with a rich historical background and stunning panoramic views from its highest point. Situated on the Mediterranean coast in the Pyrenees-Orientales department, this citadel has deep roots dating back to Roman times and was later transformed into a royal court residence. Over the years, it served various purposes including being used as a prison and disciplinary camp for refugees from Spain.
An ancient and medieval castle overlooking the sea—a truly captivating sight. Highly recommend visiting for a magical and atmospheric experience!

Pretty castle but empate and boring. 9€ is too much for an empty castle. Views are amazing tho.
Paula S — Google review
A fantastic place to visit. Spectacular views of the surrounding area from almost every angle so a great place if you like taking photos. Guided tours are available in French and they have written guides available in several languages. There is plenty of interesting information and displays about the history of the area. There is an art gallery floor with lots of beautiful pieces of work. I would describe the place as family friendly - we saw lots of young children and there was plenty of space for them to run around in the courtyard and have fun. Good, clean toilets and a place to refill water bottles. It cost us 7 Euros each to get in (August 2025) and was well worth the visit. We parked in the car park at the top of the town and used the free shuttle bus to get into the busier areas.
Purple A — Google review
One of the biggest and ancient castles on the region. It’s a true royal fortress as it says. There are a lot of groups of students visiting some excursions so make sure you are prepared. In the castle there are some temporary expositions including the one dedicated to the history of the place in 1930s. Moreover you can find an escape room and a projecting performance. At the end of the visit you will see the underlying rooms of the fortress. It’s as breathtaking as the view from the highest tower.
Kirill M — Google review
The views from the Château Royal are absolutely amazing — looking out over the sea and the colorful town of Collioure is worth the visit on its own. However, the inside of the castle was a bit disappointing. There isn’t much to see beyond the empty stone walls, and the exhibitions felt limited and not very engaging. Considering the entrance fee, we expected more history or interactive displays. Overall, a nice stop for the scenery, but the interior could be improved to make the visit more worthwhile.
Doris H — Google review
Beautiful castle, feels a bit like a maze, there are so many ways and path and it’s one of the best spot to witness the beauty of the city meeting the sea Not expensive, free for under 26, a lot of documentation and information about the history of the castle, loved it

Cellier des Dominicains offers a warm welcome and the opportunity to taste delicious white Banyuls at competitive prices. Despite the lack of tours due to COVID, visitors can still observe the premises and enjoy high-quality wine tastings. The staff is passionate and knowledgeable about their products, providing clear explanations and creating a pleasant tasting experience. Additionally, the location provides easy access to the Museum of Modern Art and stunning views of Collioure Bay from the nearby windmill.
We stopped in here after lunch yesterday and had an informal wine tasting. The proprietor was very kind and let us try about five different wines. We came home with a red and a dessert wine. Definitely stop by this place for an educational and delicious Wine lesson.
Vickery R — Google review
A very unpleasant experience thanks to the man doing the tastings. If you are unwilling to help people who speak French imperfectly, make it clear at the door that we are not welcome. Or don’t take a customer facing job if you dislike people so much.
Paul B — Google review
Came here with some friends whilst visiting Collioure and our experience was too lovely. Stefane happily did an impromptu wine tasting - a proper one - among the selection of Collioure and Banyuls wines. He explained to us the history and process, how to break down the flavour, and let us practice our french with him. He even showed us some of the cellars and vintage wine bottles. It was such a memorable experience and I look forward to visiting him again next time!
Val B — Google review
My friends and I came here for a tasting during our visit to Collioure this summer. We went right before closing but Stephane was very generous with his time and we really enjoyed our experience. The wines were delicious and I loved that we got to compare the different wines from Collioure and Banyuls. Would highly recommend if you’re visiting the town!

Amazing food and service. I had the Casa Leakn special fish platter, they even did it for 1 for me. It was by far the vest fish dish uve ever eaten. My partner had the duck and his was delicious too. Wine was also very tasty.

Great food and service. We had the menu of the day and for the price, it’s really worth it. The dishes were of high standards and delicious. Chocolate mousse is a must.

Amazing restaurant near the sea. Great choice to have seafood dishes. We took a seafood platter and anchovies, both were delicious. Big thank you to waiters for hospitality. Highly recommended.
Igor V — Google review
In the second row streets with the view to the bay and castle through the gate, this small restaurant offers an innovative French menu with a short and fair priced local wine card, and inefficient service in a classic ambiance. We were a couple for a celebratory dinner that chose the banyuls aperitivos, the outstanding gravad tuna, seafood carpaccio, Entrecote, takaki tuna, a delicious chocolate mousse, all with a fabulous local Grenache red wine, a digestive, waters and coffee for €80/pax.
Jesper A — Google review

Restaurant Le Neptune offers a stylish dining experience with inventive Mediterranean cuisine and set menus. The elegant dining room and terrace provide stunning bay views, creating a delightful environment for visitors. Guests can enjoy succulent dishes with beautiful presentations while being served by friendly and attentive staff. The restaurant's location allows for magnificent views across the port, making it an exceptional spot to savor a gastronomic treat. Additionally, beneath Restaurant Le Neptune, Brasserie La Voile also offers splendid views for guests to enjoy while dining.
Everything about the place was beautiful, the food, the view and the setup. The restaurant was particularly mindful about our lil baby and provided a high chair. The servers were very kind and playful with the little one which brought a smile on our face. The food was excellent. The desserts were the perfect cherry on top to finish the meal. Loved it!

Got a lot of good to say about this place. Service seemed busy but was still welcoming and had plenty of time for me as a solo walk in. Wine buy the glass was delightful. Presentation of the food was beautiful. Hardly a bad seat in the place. Flavours were a mixed bag for me personally but especially given the location I think the prices were well justified.
Jimmy P — Google review
We had the set menu, the meal was just perfect. The views down to the harbour made this an occasion to remember. Staff very attentive. Highly recommended this restaurant
Louis L — Google review
Views were outstanding but unfortunately the service took away from the experience. It took 2 hours for our mains to arrive after about 1.5 hour before an appetizer was delivered and drinks were forgotten more than once. With having two children (10 and 7 year old) it was not the expectation of a place with the price point that it has. Food overall was good, main dishes under season but fixed easily with some lemon and salt. We wished it had been a better experience, maybe it was an off night for the restaurant.

We have visited this wonderful restaurant twice during our stay in Collioure. Both times it was outstanding. The food is amazing, really fresh, creative and tasty. The service is impeccable, super friendly. Great views to complement the overall experience. Can recommend in the highest terms and we will return. Thank you so much.

The restaurant has a beautiful setting and view on Collioure. Well protected from the sun. Staff well trained. Welcoming. Excellent food, great menus and à la carte. Tables well presented. Make sure you book your parking place when reserving a table as it is very difficult to find car parking spaces in Collioure. Highly recommend.

Tapas bar
Mediterranean restaurant
Paco is a popular tapas bar in Collioure, known for its warm and welcoming atmosphere. Located on one of the town's charming alleys, it offers a variety of classic tapas dishes such as Paleta Iberique, Couteaux & Gambas a la Planxa, Chorizo Grille, St. Jacques and Anchois de Collioure et Boquerones.
This truly one of the best meals and experiences we have had in France. The food was cooked perfectly and was full of flavor. We live in France now and have experienced many restaurants but this is top notch!
Sonya B — Google review
I had a great lunch here on Sunday. It was busy, so I really appreciated the staff giving me a table inside (seated 4) even though I was just eating alone. The tapas I ordered was all really tasty and I really liked the clarity over which options were vegetarian. The staff were all really nice and checked in with my food and meal, even though they were very busy.
Naomi M — Google review
I’ve been in Paco several times over the years, and it’s always a highlight when in Collioure! The team are always welcoming. Many people love to sit on the outside tables, but the interior is really cozy and very atmospheric. The choices of Catalan highlights are extensive and you really cannot go wrong with anything, but a personal favourite is to order a cargolade. One tip: Arrive soon after opening if you don’t want to wait for a table, as they get pretty popular. As I already have, I’ll continue to call in time and time again! 🙂
Simon L — Google review
The food was lazy. No inspiration and no creativity. A tapas staple like chorizo was just chopped up bits, fried and thrown on a plate. I’m all for simple cooking but this was just flavourless and unappetising. Same with the other staple, garlic prawns. Whatever they were cooked in had caramelised and they just tasted burnt and had zero hint of garlic off them and the prawns themselves were small and again unappetising in presentation. We also had a goats cheese dish and a breaded chicken dish and really the same comments are applicable. Very basic, with no creativity in cooking or presentation. The staff were friendly but the service was painfully slow. Edit - after restaurant response: Perhaps some dish names were lost in translation but it was definitely your restaurant and I standby my experience. I include a photo I took of your wall menu.
Michael K — Google review
Best meal we had in Collioure! We ordered eight or nine different tapas and all were excellent. The calamari, tortilla and grilled bread were the highlights, but it was all great. Would definitely eat here again.

Lovely busy venue, full of the chatter of happy customers. Incredible tapas cooked beautifully. Like a greatest hits, we shared razor clams, octopus with garlic, grilled squid, grilled prawns, padron peppers, patatas bravas, ham and cheese croquettes, scallop tartar, beef carpaccio and more. Stunning.

El Capillo, a newly established restaurant in Collioure, offers a unique dining experience with its French cuisine infused with international flavors. The menu changes according to the seasons and features an array of fusion dishes such as Saumon gravlax with beetroot and Tataki de thon with a soy-maple glaze. Additionally, the establishment is known for its artisanal ice creams and gluten-free cakes that cater to all tastes.
If I could give them 10 stars I would! Such a kind chef and server couple. The food is unbelievable! So much thought and love goes into each dish, you can tell the chef really cares about making beautiful food. It's truly art. The freshest ingredients, prepared by an amazing chef. The service is fantastic too - they spent time to help translate the 3 course menu for us when we didnt understand/weren't familiar with how the menu worked. Really took care of us, the chef came out to check on us and share details about how it was made. Atmosphere is SO wonderful! It is the best little boutique atmosphere. Good lighting, cozy. I will be dreaming about my time here for years!

El Capillo – A Mediterranean Gem of Flavor and Hospitality This is one of those places that stays with you. Every dish is a delightful surprise – a perfect blend of Mediterranean tradition and creative finesse. The pulled beef "hot dog" is a revelation – a dish that could easily stand on the menu of a fine dining restaurant. The grilled dorade with pesto is a sensory treat – juicy, perfectly cooked, and paired with a sauce that elevates every bite. The tapas? Simply top-tier. The Patatas Bravas with aioli are addictive. The mussels – fresh, flavorful, perfectly prepared. The anchovies – delicate, beautifully balanced, served with roasted peppers and onions – simple yet outstanding. Everything is presented with care and taste. And the desserts? Absolutely divine. The grilled brioche with vanilla ice cream, caramel, and whipped cream is heavenly. The chocolate version, topped with a butterfly-shaped crispy wafer and nuts, is both artistic and delicious. A sweet finale done right. A huge plus is the owner – incredibly kind, passionate, and welcoming. The staff is also outstanding – attentive, professional, and warm. El Capillo isn’t just a restaurant – it’s an experience. I’ll definitely return and highly recommend it. Thank you for an unforgettable culinary journey!

Coming from San Francisco where we often experience world class cuisine, we give the highest rating and compliments. The food was beautifully and carefully presented, the fish so fresh. Le 5ème Péché, located in the picturesque village of Collioure, is a charming restaurant known for its fusion of Japanese and Mediterranean flavors. Chef Masashi Iijima's expertise shines through in the unique evening menu that combines local ingredients with Japanese culinary techniques. The cozy ambiance and attentive service add to the overall dining experience. While some diners found the portion sizes slightly small, others appreciated the original dishes made from fresh, seasonal produce.
