Monastery
Namgyal Monastery is a prominent Tibetan temple located in the serene town of Dharamshala, amidst picturesque mountain views. It is also known as Dalai Lama's Temple and serves as the official residence of the Dalai Lama. The monastery offers a tranquil environment for meditation and yoga sessions, attracting visitors seeking spiritual retreats. With over 200 practicing monks, it stands as the largest Tibetan shrine outside Tibet, embodying pure Buddhism.
Namgyal Monastery, located in McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala, is a significant and vibrant center of Tibetan Buddhism and culture. Often referred to as the "Dalai Lama's Temple," it holds the distinction of being the personal monastery of the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso. Established originally in Tibet in the 16th century and later re-established in Dharamsala following the Tibetan uprising in 1959, Namgyal Monastery plays a crucial role in preserving Tibetan traditions and assisting with the religious rituals involving the Dalai Lama. Home to nearly 200 monks representing all four main Tibetan monastic lineages, the monastery is a hub of learning and spiritual practice. Its curriculum includes the study of Sutra and Tantra texts, Buddhist philosophy, and the art of debate. Visitors can often witness the monks engaging in lively philosophical debates in the courtyard, a unique and fascinating aspect of their training. The monastery is also renowned for its intricate artistic traditions, including the creation of butter sculptures and colored sand mandalas, as well as the performance of sacred monastic dances, ritual music, and chanting. The temple complex itself is visually striking, featuring traditional Tibetan architecture, vibrant prayer flags fluttering in the mountain breeze, and intricately adorned prayer wheels. The main shrine houses an impressive statue of Sakyamuni Buddha. The atmosphere within the monastery is generally serene and conducive to contemplation, offering a peaceful respite from the bustling streets of McLeod Ganj. Photography is often restricted inside the prayer halls to maintain the sanctity of the space. As the largest Tibetan temple outside of Tibet, Namgyal Monastery is a must-visit for those interested in experiencing Tibetan culture and spirituality in Dharamsala.

Incredibly serene and thought-provoking place. Whether or not you follow any spiritual path, the calm energy and peaceful surroundings make it a space worth experiencing. The rhythmic chants, spinning prayer wheels, and tranquil courtyards offer a unique cultural insight and a break from the chaos of daily life. The architecture is simple yet elegant, and the location offers beautiful views of the mountains. It’s a great spot to pause, reflect, and soak in the atmosphere of McLeodganj. For anyone curious about Tibetan culture or just looking to unwind in a peaceful environment, this place is a must-visit.

Namgyal Monastery was founded in 16th-century Tibet by the second Dalai Lama, Gendun Gyatso. Since its founding, the Namgyal monks have assisted the Dalai Lamas in public religious affairs and have performed ritual prayer ceremonies for the welfare of Tibet. The monastery was also established as an esteemed center of learning, contemplation, and meditation on the vast and profound Buddhist treatises. Situated in Lhasa next to the Potala Palace, the private residence of the Dalai Lamas, Namgyal Monastery has played an integral role in the Tibetan religious establishment over the centuries.

Namgyal Monastery – A Peaceful Place Namgyal Monastery in McLeod Ganj is a quiet and beautiful place. It is home to Dalai Lama’s monks. The temple has prayer wheels, Tibetan art, and a peaceful vibe. You can hear monks chanting and see amazing mountain views. It is a great place to relax and learn about Buddhism. The monastery is near the market and easy to visit. A must-see for a calm and spiritual experience!

Wonderful place with many happy, calm ,peaceful faces including old and frail people. I feel sad that they are forced to get out of their own land, home, it's really painful. It's courageous IMs. Indira Gandhi then PM who gave shelter to all of them. We must keep the legacy and let everyone work on spiritual path as that's the ultimate goal of life, sooner or later, in this life or after 500 lives. Unfortunately, couldn't meet Dalai Lama as he was out of town. My best wishes to all spiritual seekers.

I couldn't rate it more. This place is magical. It's accessible from the main market of mcleodganj, nestled in a deodar forest. As you enter the temple premise, you will find souvenir shops, a health clinic, and a herbal Tibetan medicine store ( I bought herbal green tea from there. Amazing taste, calming effects). Then as you enter the monastery, more sense of calm surrounds you. The temple was filled with llamas chanting and praying. The view was skeptical. You can sit there and meditate.

Really enjoyed our visit to the State War Memorial. It’s a peaceful and beautiful spot—feels super calm and refreshing. It’s also a great place to go with family. There’s even a small kids' play area, which was perfect for our little one to have some fun while we explored. The memorial itself is well-maintained and honors the soldiers who gave their lives in various wars—really makes you stop and appreciate their sacrifice. It’s quite touching to see all the names engraved there. There are a few stalls right outside where you can grab a quick bite, which is always a plus after walking around. Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala is located in the picturesque Kangra Valley, surrounded by the majestic Dhauladhar mountains and lush pine and deodar forests. The town of Dharamshala offers a blend of Tibetan and Indian cultures, with vibrant neighborhoods like Mcleod Ganj and Sindhbari to explore. As the residence of the Dalai Lama, it's known for its Tibetan temples and rich traditions.
Absolutely breathtaking venue! The HPCA Stadium offers a unique cricket-watching experience with the snow-capped Dhauladhar mountains as a stunning backdrop. The atmosphere during matches is electric, and even on non-match days, it’s worth visiting for the views alone. Seating is decent, and the pitch conditions have improved significantly in recent years. However, parking is limited, and facilities like washrooms and food stalls could use better management during large events. Best to visit during a day match to enjoy the scenic beauty. A must-see for cricket fans and travelers alike!

The Dharamshala Cricket Stadium is truly one of the most breathtaking places I have ever visited! Nestled in the lap of the mighty Dhauladhar mountain range, it offers a view so spectacular that it feels like nature and sport have come together in perfect harmony. Watching a match here — or even just standing in the stands — is an unforgettable experience. The stadium is impeccably maintained, clean, and organized. The vibrant green outfield set against the snow-capped Himalayan peaks creates a surreal atmosphere, unlike any other cricket ground in the world. It’s not just a venue for cricket; it’s a destination for peace, beauty, and inspiration. The facilities are excellent — from comfortable seating to proper security and amenities for visitors. Even when there isn’t a match happening, the staff is kind enough to let you explore and take in the view. The management and local authorities have done a fantastic job preserving both the sporting spirit and the natural serenity of the place. Whether you’re a cricket lover or simply a traveler seeking something unique, the Dharamshala Stadium is a must-visit. It’s more than just the world’s highest international cricket stadium — it’s a slice of paradise where every photo looks like a postcard. Absolutely deserving of 5 stars for its beauty, ambiance, and the pride it brings to Indian cricket! 🌄🏏🇮🇳

Beautiful Stadium But Beware of Scam Activity Outside The HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala is easily one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the world, surrounded by the majestic Dhauladhar mountain range. The views are absolutely breathtaking snow clad peaks, fresh mountain air, and a perfectly maintained field. Even on non-match days, the entry fee (₹30 via UPI) is totally worth it for the serenity and scenic beauty. The stands are colorful, the stadium is clean, and staff are generally polite and cooperative. However, visitors should stay alert outside the main gate. There are people pretending to represent resort or travel companies (often with names like Karma Group) with ID probably fake ID cards handing out scratch cards for tgeir 31st anniversary claiming “free prizes” or “holiday vouchers.” This is a misleading sales scam they invite you to a “presentation” that turns into a high-pressure attempt to sell costly vacation memberships. Many visitors have reported that these offers are fake, and the promised gifts are never delivered or come with hidden charges. Tourists often end up losing time and face unnecessary stress. It’s important that visitors do not share personal details or sign any forms from these individuals. Politely decline and walk away. Tourists have repeatedly faced such incidents near the stadium entrance. The HPCA authorities and local police should look into this matter to maintain the safe, welcoming environment that this world class venue deserves. This place is a jewel of Himachal let’s keep it safe and scam free for everyone to enjoy! 🏟️🏔️

Always a delight visit the holiness place. This time I also attended his lifelong ceremony with a bunch of tibetans and renowned scholars who happened to visit this ceremony and seek his blessings from all over the world. Such a delight to witness him and this ceremony in person and feel a surge of true spiritual energy, even with more than 1000 people around. I guess it's the holiness in Dharamshala effect.

There are statues of Tibetan Saints in the complex and one experiences utmost peace and tranquility in the temple. I recently visited the Kangra Art Museum in Dharamshala and it was a deeply satisfying experience. Tucked near Kotwali Bazaar, the museum sits gracefully on a small rise with views of the lush Kangra Valley around it . Inside, I spent nearly two hours walking through halls filled with over 1,500 artifacts—ancient Kangra-style miniature paintings, Tibetan and Buddhist sculptures, old manuscripts, tribal jewellery, pottery, royal tents, coins, and even handcrafted wood carvings . The detail in the Kangra paintings is extraordinary: natural hues made from floral pigments and painstaking brushwork bring mythological and local scenes to life . There’s a calm and focused atmosphere inside, perfect for art lovers or anyone curious about Himachal’s rich cultural heritage. Information boards next to exhibits made the experience educational, and there’s a small library and rotating displays of contemporary artists and photographers too . Photography is restricted in most areas, which adds to the peaceful ambiance—if you'd like a photo you'll need to buy a camera ticket (nominal fee) or shoot from outside . The building itself follows traditional Himachal-style architecture and is well-kept. There’s a small souvenir section offering postcards and catalogues if you’d like to take home something meaningful . Visitor parking is available nearby, though space can fill up during popular hours—better to come early . Open Tuesday through Sunday from around 9 or 10 am until late afternoon (5–7 pm depending on the day) and closed on Mondays and holidays—so plan accordingly . Admission is ₹50 for Indians, ₹150 for foreign tourists, and children under 10 get a small discount; photography inside requires a small extra ticket too . If you're in Dharamshala and curious about local art, history, or just want a peaceful cultural space, this museum is a gem.

The Kangra Art Museum is a must‑visit for anyone interested in the art and heritage of the Himalayas. Its tranquil setting near Kotwali Bazaar in Dharamshala provides a perfect backdrop to explore centuries of creative expression, from stone‑era artefacts to delicate Pahari miniatures. Particularly impressive are the textile and jewellery galleries, which highlight the craftsmanship of local tribes. Visitors will appreciate the layout, which allows for a smooth flow from one exhibit to another. While some newer pieces offer modern perspectives, the heart of the museum lies in its historic displays. The friendly staff, clean galleries and modest entry price make it an accessible and enriching experience. One minor point: guide services could be improved to deepen the context and stories behind many artefacts. But overall, the museum stands out as a delightful blend of culture, art and history — ideal for a restful, enlightening afternoon in Kangra Valley.

The ticket price is 50 per adult. It is a small museum. It has mainly a collection of paintings in the Kangra art style. It has a few sculptures and archaeological finds. The paintings are not by famous artists. It is probably by the students who are trained in the Kangra art style. It is a museum specific to this region and therefore it is a place good for visit. However, compared to other museums in other parts of India it doesn’t compare. I don’t wish to stay that you shouldn’t visit this museum. You should. Just to get a feel of this region.

When visiting Dharamsala, don't miss out on the authentic flavors of Tibet at Yangkhor Tibet Home Kitchen. This local gem offers a taste of the mountain kingdom with its fresh and flavorful dishes. The restaurant's cozy terrace provides a charming setting to savor traditional Tibetan cuisine at affordable prices.
This is the second place in Mcleodganj we tried Tibet food. No doubt this is one of our favourite place. The chef is friendly and amazing. You will understand his efforts while tasting the food. The soup and texture of the thenthuk was so yum. It was so soothing for that cold weather. I loved their Tibet butter tea as well. The ambience is so cute, calm and relaxing.

We ordered 2 x Thukpa noodle soups. They came out about 10 minutes apart, they were piping hot which is nice, but a little unexciting and bland. The veggies were nice in there but it wasn't something we'd rush back for. Had to go and find someone at the end to pay our bill after waiting a good 10 minutes. It was steady trade in there (mainly monks) but not overly busy.

We just randomly walked around and saw a sign for this place. We decided to try it out and we are very happy we did. It's probably the best food we've had in Mcleodganj. It's a very local place but clean with a very cute terrace. The food is fresh, made on the spot (we waited a bit but we didn't mind). It's also half the price of those more touristy places

Japanese restaurant
Nestled in the picturesque town of McLeod Ganj, Lung Ta Japanese Restaurant offers a taste of Japan with its authentic and high-quality traditional Japanese meals. Run by a Japanese chef and her Tibetan husband, this much-celebrated vegetarian restaurant is known for its sushi, ramen, bento boxes, and set meals. The cozy ambiance and serene environment make it an ideal spot for a relaxing dinner while enjoying stunning mountain views from the outdoor seating area.
Lung Ta Japanese Restaurant is one of the most reasonably priced Japanese restaurant in the world where you can enjoy delicious food! In addition to Japanese food, you can also enjoy delicious bread and desserts. Besides chai and coffee, other drinks you shouldn't miss are green tea and Japanese roasted Tea(hojicha). Especially, one of my favorite is hojicha. Another reason I like this restaurant is because of its name, Lung Ta. Now that we are in the age of wind, I feel that there is a very deep meaning in this name.

A delightful Japanese cafe, forgotten or at least overlooked by time. A real hidden gem run by a delightful senior Japanese and Tibetan couple. The wife is the cook. A small menu of snacks and beverages is available. The whole of one wall is devoted to books (for the younger generation, books were once seen as essential depositories of knowledge and civilisation, before the Elon Musk Presidency). I really appreciated the atmosphere of calm and peace. Highly recommend as an oasis of calm; a refuge from the domination of the motor cars outside. The home-made lemon curd cake is very yummy indeed and is highly recommended. Places like this are now sadly getting quite rare and are becoming an ‘endangered species’. A must-see experience!

Some places don’t just serve you food—they give you an experience that stays with you. This was one of those rare gems. Run lovingly by a couple, the moment you step in, you’re wrapped in a blanket of warmth and genuine hospitality. It’s cozy, intimate, and beautifully real. While many places try too hard to impress, this one wins you over by simply being itself—authentic, humble, and full of heart. I had the special set menu (available on Tuesdays and Fridays), and every bite felt like a story. The homemade kombucha was refreshing and vibrant, and the lemon curd? Pure joy. I wish I could keep coming back, again and again. If I could give it 10 stars out of 5, I absolutely would.

Always a pleasure to dine here and enjoy simple basic comforting Japanese food. The owners are very simple Japanese people and quite hospitable who speak fluent hindi.

If you're in McLeodganj and craving authentic Japanese food, Lung Ta Japanese Restaurant is the place to go. 🍣 The simplicity of the place belies the quality of the food. Always try their today’s special and the lemon curd for dessert – they are must-haves! 🍋 This restaurant is the one-stop solution for every Japanese craving. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with a large manga cabinet that adds a unique touch. 📚 The unbelievably genuine and nice old couple hosting the restaurant make the experience even more special. Despite the quality, the dishes are surprisingly cost-effective, especially if you’ve spent a few bucks cafe hunting in McLeodganj. 💰 It's a favorite among foreigners for obvious reasons, as they often vouch for its authenticity. 🌍 Visit when the place is quiet to truly enjoy the peaceful, zen ambiance. 🧘‍♂️ My favorite spot is always the corner area where you sit on the floor in traditional Japanese zen style. The place has a serene vibe, and the chefs, who are Tibetan, add a unique touch to the Japanese dishes. 🍜 Even if you’re new to Japanese cuisine, this place is a great introduction. Though it's 100% vegetarian, the flavors are rich and varied, thanks to ingredients like seaweed. 🌿 They have daily specials combo, enough for 1-2 persons, and you can also order à la carte. 📋 Such a nice place with daily specials. We went on Saturday for tofu day, and it was delicious. They serve generous portions, including soup and rice. 🍲 Highly recommended! 🌟

I had last visited them 15 years ago. Since, am not much familiar with the japanese cuisine, I had tried veg curry with rice then. This time, it was on my to do list. Being a vegetarian, it's rare to find a veg japanese restaurant (they serve egg though) We ordered the day's special, along with Kombucha. It was difficult to understand, how to pair items together, but, it was a good struggle. I enjoyed the cuisine. But, I definitely feel, it could be better. Ambience is decent. It feels like family run place. The gentleman is sweet. May not visit again.

Cafe
Crepe Pancake Hut is a charming family-friendly cafe in the hill town of McLeodganj, offering an array of breakfast options and delectable dessert choices. The cozy interior features wooden artwork, framed wall paintings, and a collection of books for visitors to enjoy. With low tables, floor cushions, and a relaxed lounge-like ambiance, it exudes chic vibes perfect for lazy days.
Beautiful heartwarming cozy cafe with an owner who advocates for a vegan diet. You'll need to get here by cab or walking. The nearest paid public car park is a bit far. It's a small cafe with 3 to 4 tables in a room, located on first floor with no lifts. Accessibility could be challenging for some. You'll love the spirit of the place if you care about the establishment being pro-vegan though they carry vegetarian food as well. The owner is a lovely lady who cares about her causes. The place is stacked with a mini library that reflects her values. The menu is fairly limited to crepes, waffles, sandwiches, and other finger foods but you could still enjoy a meal here if you'd like that. The food itself was excellent. The thick banana Nutella pancake was heavenly. The vegan choco chip cookies blew my mind as they were made sugar free. I couldn't understand how it tasted so well if it had no sugar. The avacado sandwich and waffle tasted great too. My wife who is vegan loved the food and wished coming back on a Wednesday when the cafe offers only vegan dishes. Very thoughtful way to promote veganism. The food was well priced, expensive for Mcleodganj standards but definitely worth it if you care about supporting great vegan food!

Go for the breakfast here. Have some freshly made crepe pancakes along with a beverage of your choice and you will thank your stars! Take in the breathtaking view while the aroma of pancakes and crepes waft in the air.

When I think back to my time in McLeodganj, this café stands out as one of the most memorable parts. The cozy atmosphere, the healthy food prepared with care, and the wonderful people I met here made it feel like home. This is the perfect place to read a book and drink tea while watching the mountains outside. Yangzom cares for the guests and makes the place special. I hope to visit again someday.

A very good restaurant! The restaurant has a cosy atmosphere. The best advantage and a reason, we chose to visit is the fact, that you have gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options to choose from. If possible, they will let you switch ingredients of a meal based on your special needs. They serve nice big portions, we ordered gluten-free burrito whith avocado and full of boiled and also fresh veggies. The portion was bigger than expected, we almost had problems to finish it :). We were afraid to eat fresh vegs in India because of water contamination, but here they state in the menu that they treat the vegetables with sterilised water, which is very important. We had no problem after eating their vegs. Keep in mind that they don't serve every option from the menu every day, as it is a small restaurant, but you will always have options to choose from even if you have special needs. As a dessert we got a gluten and dairy free pancake with no sugar, just fresh fruit. Very nice experience.

One of our favorite cozy spots in Dharamshala/Mccleod Ganj. Shakshuka, crepes, veg sushi and vegan peanut butter noodles are some of our favorites. Oh and I normally don't like. Kombucha much, but their homemade Mango/mint kombucha is delicious! Must try! (note my husband usually orders extra eggs with shakshuka, the normal portion everywhere is usually 2).

Very cordial cafe: We visited the cafe 4 years back. The guy on desk not only impressed with his Kannada (South Indian Language) but also made a delicious pizza (which in his own words was more delicious than Domino's and Pizza Hut. Which we agree.) Do visit.

City Heart Restaurant in Dharamshala is a must-visit for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The small but amazing place offers an awesome dining experience with its delicious Indian food, including the popular Poori Bhaji and Chana Bhatura. Visitors rave about the excellent food, fast service, and gracious team at this restaurant. Whether you're craving chicken chili or Biryani, City Heart has got you covered.
Good restaurant to dine in, they have a place to park, punjabi dishes available.

Randomly found my way to this place. I'm usually suspicious about restaurants that offer multiple cuisines but this was a pleasant surprise! I recommend the mutton rahra with rice. The service is excellent as well.

I had the best Thalia in my time in India. The variety on the plate, the taste of the gravys and the raita. The papad was amazing but the chapati was slightly stale. Ordered the mutton Thalia and the vegetable Thali. The Gulab jamun was also outstanding. Unfortunately the main floor lacks a view and the curtains are closed which makes it a bit dark. I recommend sitting in the top floor

We ordered veg fried rice and veg Manchurian with gravy. Veg fried rice : 3.5/5 Veg manchurian: 2/5 The vegetable balls were so so. They were not up to the mark. The taste was very different and not matching indo-chinese gravy style. I will give it another try and update this review

I love their Indian food. Their chicken chilly and Biryani is amazing. Their pricing is also good.

We ordered one chicken biryani and one egg biryani. First of all, I would like to say that with biryani you should at least give raita. raita is the accoumpiment of biryani. And if you people do not know this thing then know today. Taste of the biryani wasn't that good according to the price.
