Namgyal Monastery was founded in 16th-century Tibet by the second Dalai Lama, Gendun Gyatso. I couldn't rate it more. This place is magical. It's accessible from the main market of mcleodganj, nestled in a deodar forest. As you enter the temple premise, you will find souvenir shops, a health clinic, and a herbal Tibetan medicine store ( I bought herbal green tea from there. Amazing taste, calming effects). Then as you enter the monastery, more sense of calm surrounds you. The temple was filled with llamas chanting and praying. The view was skeptical. You can sit there and meditate.

You don’t have to watch a match to visit this place you can just go an visit to this beautiful stadium by paying a fee of 30 or maybe it increases by the time you arrive but trust me this is a very good place with all the ipl team posters on it. Beautiful Stadium But Beware of Scam Activity Outside The HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala is easily one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the world, surrounded by the majestic Dhauladhar mountain range. The views are absolutely breathtaking snow clad peaks, fresh mountain air, and a perfectly maintained field. Even on non-match days, the entry fee (₹30 via UPI) is totally worth it for the serenity and scenic beauty. The stands are colorful, the stadium is clean, and staff are generally polite and cooperative. However, visitors should stay alert outside the main gate. There are people pretending to represent resort or travel companies (often with names like Karma Group) with ID probably fake ID cards handing out scratch cards for tgeir 31st anniversary claiming “free prizes” or “holiday vouchers.” This is a misleading sales scam they invite you to a “presentation” that turns into a high-pressure attempt to sell costly vacation memberships. Many visitors have reported that these offers are fake, and the promised gifts are never delivered or come with hidden charges. Tourists often end up losing time and face unnecessary stress. It’s important that visitors do not share personal details or sign any forms from these individuals. Politely decline and walk away. Tourists have repeatedly faced such incidents near the stadium entrance. The HPCA authorities and local police should look into this matter to maintain the safe, welcoming environment that this world class venue deserves. Inside there are paintings and stuff that tells us about this city like how it was at the time of independence and British Raj, tells us about their culture and history. Beautiful Art Museum. A must visit place for every tourists. Tourists can meet there engaged in live painting and art. It is preserving the heritage of Himachal. My suggestion for the Museum authority is that they should have a audio visual session for the tourists to explain the importance of local art and craft

I recently visited the Kangra Art Museum in Dharamshala and it was a deeply satisfying experience. Tucked near Kotwali Bazaar, the museum sits gracefully on a small rise with views of the lush Kangra Valley around it . Inside, I spent nearly two hours walking through halls filled with over 1,500 artifacts—ancient Kangra-style miniature paintings, Tibetan and Buddhist sculptures, old manuscripts, tribal jewellery, pottery, royal tents, coins, and even handcrafted wood carvings . The detail in the Kangra paintings is extraordinary: natural hues made from floral pigments and painstaking brushwork bring mythological and local scenes to life . There’s a calm and focused atmosphere inside, perfect for art lovers or anyone curious about Himachal’s rich cultural heritage. Information boards next to exhibits made the experience educational, and there’s a small library and rotating displays of contemporary artists and photographers too . Photography is restricted in most areas, which adds to the peaceful ambiance—if you'd like a photo you'll need to buy a camera ticket (nominal fee) or shoot from outside . The building itself follows traditional Himachal-style architecture and is well-kept. There’s a small souvenir section offering postcards and catalogues if you’d like to take home something meaningful . Visitor parking is available nearby, though space can fill up during popular hours—better to come early . Open Tuesday through Sunday from around 9 or 10 am until late afternoon (5–7 pm depending on the day) and closed on Mondays and holidays—so plan accordingly . Admission is ₹50 for Indians, ₹150 for foreign tourists, and children under 10 get a small discount; photography inside requires a small extra ticket too . The ticket price is 50 per adult. It is a small museum. It has mainly a collection of paintings in the Kangra art style. It has a few sculptures and archaeological finds. The paintings are not by famous artists. It is probably by the students who are trained in the Kangra art style. It is a museum specific to this region and therefore it is a place good for visit. However, compared to other museums in other parts of India it doesn’t compare. I don’t wish to stay that you shouldn’t visit this museum. You should. Just to get a feel of this region.

Unless you are a total lover of historical art please don’t go. I’m not sure if the art lovers will also like it. Very small and basic museum with nothing exceptional. They charge extra for photography which is much worth for properly keeping these arts. Please must pay extra for photography. It took us max 20 min to go through the entire museum. The staff is very friendly and interested. It was a purely utilisation of valuable time and money. This place is dedicated exclusively for maintaining and preserving Kangra art and culture which has become extinct now . Its a must visit place , a peep into the past Painstaking collection and well documented history of over 7000 years with photographs manuscripts, Artifacts. visited this memorial 🫡 on a rainy day of october. groups of children were seen enjoying even in this weather. Walkways and grass were clean and non slippery.. good job done by curator to include Chota bheem, motu-patlu , mickey 🐭 figures to attract young crowd . visit was brief nonetheless enjoyable 👍

A mini Tibet sitting on the top of an Indian himalayan ridge crowded with calm but strong red monks visiting their supremo and his monastery is one of the most beautiful experiences I had in MacLeodganj. When we visited the place, we had innumerable monks sitting in the verandah of Monestry and chanting in their heavy voices echoing the entire market in the vicinity of the temple. It shouldn't take long for you to complete your visit here. It will usually take around 15-25 mins for this place. However, there are some really good authentic small shops selling Tibetan accessories. You will love the vibe of this place and this is the single most important place to visit when you are in MacLeodganj.

Always a delight visit the holiness place. This time I also attended his lifelong ceremony with a bunch of tibetans and renowned scholars who happened to visit this ceremony and seek his blessings from all over the world. Such a delight to witness him and this ceremony in person and feel a surge of true spiritual energy, even with more than 1000 people around. I guess it's the holiness in Dharamshala effect.

Our family visited this Budhist Dalai Lama temple (also known as Theckchen Choeling Buddha Vihar) on 24 October 2025. There is no entry fees. There is a residential venue of Dalai Lama, in front of the temple complex. It has a Beautiful, calm, quiet, serene, religious atmosphere with excellent infrastructure for religious ceremony and meditation.

We are thankful to the petrol pump guy who suggested us to visit tea garden. When you are there make sure you try their different teas specially ice tea and there tea flavoured ice cream which was home made and for sweet they used natural himalayan honey.

Center for Tibetan studies...….nice and peaceful place

Library holding historical tibetan written documents and artifacts. You can visit the museum on the first floor on a small fee and see a wonderful sand Mandala, a sample of butter sculpture and many bronze artifacts. If lucky, you might gain access to the manuscript room too. There also is a shop selling books dedicated to the study of tibetan culture - definitely recommend to anyone interested in Tibetan culture.

An institution to get lot closer to Tibetan culture and tradition. A place where you can take Tibetan language classes and Buddhist philosophy classes. It also consist of a Library dedicated mainly on the Tibetan and Himalayan related books. Also a museum exhibiting the old artefacts from Tibet and the continuation of Tibetan craftsmanship in exile. LTWA also holds huge collections of manuscript brought from Tibet, covering wide range of subjects. A must visit place in Dharamsala to understand Tibetans and our culture better!

During my visit to Dharmshala visited this place and having very good time. As the library contains sources which were relocated from Tibet during the 1959 escape, including important Tibetan Buddhist manuscripts and archives related to Tibet's history, politics, culture and even art. Also the second floor of the library contains a museum containing notable artifacts and items that date back to the twelfth century. And also there you can take the books from the library and read also. There are two sections one where you will find the books in English and in other in Tibet. So a must visit place if you are in Dharmshala Or planning to be in Dharmshala.

Amazing place, very historic. The place around the church is too scenic. The forest behind the church is perfect for photo shoot and spending quality. You can get good chai, pakoda and Maggie just outside the church. Must visit place in Mcleodganj.

This is a really excellent place if you wish to see Gothic architecture. It is covered with pine trees and also has a Graveyard at the back. Its churchyard is the final resting place of Lord Elgin, who served as Governor General of the Province of Canada, oversaw the creation of responsible government in Canada, and later, while in China, ordered the complete destruction of the Old Summer Palace. He became Governor-General & Viceroy of India in 1861 during the British Raj, though he soon died at Dharamshala on 20 November 1863, and was buried there.

It also houses the grave of Lord Elgin, a former Viceroy of India, which adds to its historical significance. Despite the 1905 Kangra earthquake, the church still stands strong, with an old cast-iron bell placed outside. The atmosphere is calm and spiritual, making it perfect for reflection and quiet walks around the surrounding forest. It’s just a short walk from McLeod Ganj and is free to enter. One of the oldest church in northern India. It’s situated at McLeod Ganj near Dharamshala HP . Very beautiful Himalayan town. Place worth visiting once in life time. James Bruce , the Governor General and Viceroy of British India, who happened to be Governor of Jamaica , Governor General of Canada and Ambassador to China, died here in Dharamshala. His widow Mary Louisa build his Memorial in this premises , just behind the church ⛪️.

Tibetan history and culture is well preserved and presented here. The struggle phase is also shown in a great manner. Overall a nice place to know about the Tibetan community.

Clean and organised. It is critical to visit this museum as part of your trip to McLeodganj or Dharamshala. Don't miss the audio headphones of personal accounts to better understand the pain and torture that was inflicted on HH the Dalai Lama and his beloved people.

I took 2h to get to know a bit of history of Tibetans. For the price you pay you can learn a lot about culture, history of the country. Must visit.

Calm & peaceful. Can spend 3-4 hrs for a thorough experience. May finish in 2hrs. Canteen present. Books & merch available. Space for quiet walks. Very interesting for Tibetan enthusiasts. Must visit.

We have so small time gap till close. Please note, that the museum is open until 17:00, like everywhere. One hour is not enough. For me it spents only for two photo-walls - with history of Tibet and yellow-white «cubes» with short answers of Dalai Lama on short questions. Did not very like one thing - so much TV with earphones showing Dalai Lama on each wall. Interactivity of museum is not means this kind of solution method. Find other way to introduce moving movie. And about history-wall. Mostly things I read on the wall was about when some Lama came, when came another. Less information about relationships with other countries , less details about nower period after 1959. Hope, other rooms is informative and well-designed. For such small nation (Tibetians) good Museum is very important. When we was in it, there is only one visitor except us. Tourists all the day are in other more interesting places maybe.

Kindly be responsible and respectful while going to this tiny township . A very aesthetically located Monastery. A peek into the Tibetan world. Avoid taking big cars to this hill town. Preferably park your cars down at the ropeway and use the ropeway to the township. Use public means to move around the congested narrow roads.

Hello This place is a very auspicious and know as Shakti Peeth as mata sati "Kapaal" is situated in this temple . People come here for blessings and take the holy water from "mata's Kapaal " . People believe that if you drink this water your mind power will increase and your brain will function properly so specially give this water to your kids . This place has beautiful scenic views and photo spots as well . Spacious parking area and one pooja store also available outside This temple will come on the way to Dulhousie and near the tea garden so you can go there easily .

This is holy place of Mata Sati (one of mata's 51 Shakti peeth). Its also known as Maa Kapaleshweri devi mandir, as mata's kapal fell on this place. It is also believed that water on the Kapal cure people who are suffering from stone illness. People visit this place due to its location, healing ability (you can take that water with you) and for peacefulness. It's just near famous Tea Garden of Dharamshala. This place should be in your itinerary.

One of the shakti peeth in himachal which is between MacLeod ganj and dharamshala it's connected to a Tea plantations. One must visit this temple.

Kunal Pathari Temple is a peaceful Hindu temple with a stunning view from the top. The walk to get there is just as lovely, surrounded by nature and fresh air. It’s a calming spot worth the short walk. The way to reach there is through tea gardens and you'll feel so good on the road itself.

The road to this temple is easy and not very dangerous. Not very steep either. On the way you’ll find tea gardens. A great view. You can have tea before you arrive. There aren’t any food places around. Only small shanties with tea or small snacks. There is a nice and clean washroom and many dustbins. So that the area can be kept clean by tourists. The inside of the mandir has Durga idols. Very clean and auspicious

This place is very close to Dharamshala. While coming here you can visit Himalayan Brew Tea Garden and buy multiple types of tea and coffee. The temple is simple and clean. The story is attached in photos. Please bring an empty bottle. Because Mata is in a cave and above it the water is dripping in the cave and gets collected. This water has been dripping for many centuries. This water is considered holy water. There is a Shiva Temple to pray. Few people believe that this Mata is a Shaktipeeth. There is also a selfie point as "Jai Maa Kunal Pathri "

The peace i felt was very different here....beautiful temple and the best part, lesser crowd so you can actually take a quiet time to pray there. Beautiful view as well. The washrooms outside the temple were also very clean.

Beautiful location you get 360 degree view of the Dhauladhar range and the vast Kangra valley below from the Indru Nag temple. The temple is also the starting point location for paragliding at #Dharamshala. The road to the temple is narrow and steep with great views along the way.

Wonderful place to visit... located On a hilltop ...one can also do para-gliding (₹2500/ per person) . One can have the landscape view of entire dharamshala. If one visits the temple, don't forget to find out about the legend behind why is it called Indru Nag ?? (Hint: You can find it written on one of the walls of temple) comment "yes" if you are successful in finding out . Wish u all a happy and adventurous hike. Keep hiking and trekking ❣️

This place is amazing. The temple is so peaceful, magical and powerful. Dhouladhar range and other mountains increases the beauty of this place.

Street Market in winter is the best way to explore the place. This market displays the rich culture of the area. There are so many authentic products on display that you will be tempted to purchase something for sure. There are many stores selling knitwear, one can spot Tibetan women knitting gloves, scarfs and other items while entertaining customers. There are also many stores selling beads and rosaries. Apart from that, one can find previous stones and jade rollers, Crockery, restaurants and cafes.

Beutiful small town for shopping. McLeod Ganj market offers variety of gift items, woolen clothes, handicrafts Cafe, restaurant. But very busy with traffic. It's known for its street stalls. Rates are bit higher because of popular tourist place.

Beautiful market to explore. All types of cafes here to explore. Market is full with old and new clothes and some antique pieces are also a available here. Mostly items are related to Buddhist culture. Its beautiful to Rome here in night time. Only thing is vehicle are moving on the mall road which creates disturbance. Remember to park your car in the parking and walk, People who are exploring the market should try the local momos shops.

Market is little crowded but weather remains pleasant all day ⛱️ There are many Tibetan shops and Monasteries 🙏 For tourist attraction, The timber trail is also available with Rs 500/1000 charges 😎

Who doesn't love shopping? I think everyone does. Mcleodganj market is so colourful, inviting, attractive. I suggest you to walk through the market without any vehicle, else you will stuck in traffic. You will find street food, decorative items stalls, clothing stall, beverages, bakery etc. In the middle of the market you will also come across Dalai Lama monestry as well. Must visit. The price is reasonable. The path of the market is so good & pleasant. Must visit in the evening.

It's the Tibetan capital today. Home of The Dalai lama. So you will find a lot of Tibetan stores and stuff , the cuisine as well Tibetan and north Indian and himachli cuisine. Great to visit during summers and end of winters.

Beautiful place, lovely natural scenery ❤️ one can find a large number of Tibetan shopping outlets. Place is well maintained and cleanliness is great. Variety of stuff can be found here from home decorations, clothing, artifacts to Tibetan, Bhutanese foods etc. This place attracts grear crowd and tourists from around the world. Loved it!

Don’t go there! We walked for like 20-30 mins to reach this monastery from the skywalk Dharamshala and found it to be under renovation. We then went on the terrace to click some pictures and came back. One kind monk met us on the way to this monastery near the start of kora circuit and showed us a short route (not an easy one) to this monastery but I doubt that he knew if the Nemchung monastery was under renovation.

Brilliant! A mini Tibet area has been created around the monastery. A must visit. Lovely place. Highlight of our trip.

It is one of the monasteries in Dharamshala with very less footfall. Many taxi drivers don't know about it. It is next to Library & Tibet Museum. It takes 20-30 mins walk from Dharamshala Bus stand (without luggage). Roads are highly inclined. Very photogenic location.

A little of Tibet at India, you can find something belong to the old Tibet culture.

During my visit to Dharmshala visited the monastery. As it is situated near the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives and The Tibet Museum. And is inside the Central Tibet Administration. So all three places one can travel in single day. The surrounding and the energy inside the monastery is very positive and it's a must visit place in my view.

Seeing the gear and attire of the Nechung Oracle—something I had only seen in movies and books—was a powerful experience that truly brought it all to life.

If receptive to spiritual energies, this is a place to be and rest for quite some time- independent of whether you understand the symbolisms, building structures, archetypes etc.

This place was suggested by one of my friend and just as he explained this place proved its beauty and service. Amit Kapoor and his team do a great job while you are staying with them in the camp. They also have a hotel known as the vacation home which is just 500 meters away from the camp.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing an unforgettable stay at Urban Camp, an extraordinary blend of nature and modern amenities right in the heart of the city. This urban camp is truly a hidden gem, offering a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle while still being conveniently located close to major attractions.

Invest in quality items from this Tibetan artisinal co-operative with a history of 45 years. All items here are crafted by Tibetans, have a fixed price but I especially loved the carpets. These luxurious hand-crafted carpets are made by a co-operative of women, so each carpet purchased directly benefits the Tibetan refugees living in exile. Stunning designs which include Tibetan Buddhist and Tibetan cultural motifs. The quality of these hand-crafted carpets are excellent. I've bought carpets in Agra and these are just as lush and thick, but the prices are fair and FIXED - there's no haggling over "tourist" prices. The designs are distinctly Tibetan and the colours are incredibly vibrant. This co-op employs women from the local Tibetan community, so the supply and production are completely ethical, transparent and fair. I was absolutely thrilled with the service, kindness and ethical sourcing of the carpets I saw in the production/ showroom. They also custom-make designs using your choice of colours, and these can be sent overseas, also at a fair price. I was lucky to find carpets I loved in the showroom and I purchased 3 carpets from the Tibetan Handicrafts Centre. I found them all to be of the highest quality, with the wool and finishing to match those I found in Agra and some I have seen at auction houses in Sydney. I was also fortunate enough to have the history of this cooperative explained to me by the very kind Mr Tamding Tsering. Mr Tamding Tsering is the Production Manager here at the carpet cooperative, and he has been working here since its inception in 1962! Photos attached show the progression of the co-op since 1962. The very first photos show women using the looms in an outdoor space, skillfully creating exquisite carpets in the open air. After some organising, on the 11th of April 1963, 45 Tibetan ladies formally started the "Women's Carpet Handicraft" and each of the ladies had a share of 117.40 rupees in this cooperative. The Dalai Lama's private office donated 5000 rupees to help this initiative, and 2 teachers loaned 1474 rupees (without interest) and funds from Tibetan Home Affairs Office brought the original investment of this co-op to 14257 rupees. This seems paltry by today's standards, but at that time, it meant empowerment and agency. With this initial funding, they were able to build a shed, next to a smaller building which served as a mess hall for the women. 1969 May 7 - the co-op was then registeredas an official cooperative expanding the cooperative (Registration #315) with an Indian export license FT-000115. The Dalai Lama visited them in 1976 and blessed the co-op. This place has history, and HEART. At the height of this artisanal co-op in 1970's, there were about 300 women employed. Now there are 30 women who work these looms and create future heirloom-quality carpets. The diminishing knowledge of this skill and future scarcity is what makes these carpets even more valuable. Each carpet is already a work of art, hand-made by skillful artisans who are sharing their heritage and history. If you want to buy something of irreplaceable value and to give back to the Tibetan community in exile, please invest in one of these beautiful pieces of art.

How does this place not have more reviews!? This place was brilliant! Please buy your souvenirs from here rather than the other shops on the street because you’re actually supporting exiled Tibetans working here. They can make you carpets, wooden chests/coffee tables with carvings & they sell plenty of Tibetan trinkets that are pocket friendly too! The people working here were so friendly and were extremely happy to explain all about the items sold, Tibetan arts, prayer wheels and their mantras. The guy even gave me some pamphlets to take away describing in detail all about my purchases. Please please definitely give this place a visit when you go!

Went to check if they have a small lamp for prayer, the Tibetan lady at the counter is very arrogant and responded with very rude attitude and very bad energy. Will not go there again and will not recommend to my friends. I better spend my hard earn money with kind people. Such a shame to behave like this in a spiritual place where his holiness lives.

So amazing. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. The women are amazingly talented and Tamding is so patient and happy. We thought about buying many carpets, going back and forth then finally settled on 3 smaller ones. This was surely not easy, but Tamding was amazingly patient through it all. This is a great shop that supports a great cause. Highly reccomend it if you want a souvenir. Plus they also do custom orders!! Amazing. Thanks so much! We love our carpets!
