Wildlife refuge
The National Key Deer Refuge is a sanctuary and nature preserve dedicated to protecting the rare Florida Key deer species. Situated between Marathon and Key West, it encompasses Big Pine Key, where visitors can encounter these miniature deer that grow to the size of a large dog. Whether passing through by car or exploring on foot, this refuge offers an opportunity to appreciate and support the conservation of these unique creatures in their natural habitat.
You can find the key deer all over this area.

NO THIS IS THE WRONG ADDRESS! There is nothing to do here. It just lets you know that you are entering a key deer refuge(the whole island is basically the refuge). NOT a place to stop or do anything! Try here ( 30587 Overseas Hwy, Big Pine Key, FL 33043 ).

Very helpful staff, got to see some key beers and learned a lot about the poison trees and deers

(Translated by Google) A lovely free round trip that allows you to enjoy this superb nature and a breathtaking final view. We didn't see any deer but we did see a pretty raccoon. On the way back, during the charging stop for our electric car, 3 deer and a fawn were at the back of the supermarket... (Original) Jolie ballade aller-retour, gratuite, qui permet de profiter de cette superbe nature et d’un point de vue final ébouriffant. Nous n’avons pas vu de cerf mais un joli racoon. Nature & Wildlife Areas
Located in the Florida Keys, Blue Hole is a small but significant wildlife area known for its circular pond. It is a popular spot for wildlife watching, offering opportunities to see various reptiles, iguanas, birds, and the endangered Key deer. The area also houses alligators and features the largest body of freshwater in the Florida Keys. The sinkhole formed in limestone has become an important habitat due to quarry blasting that enlarged it.
The Blue Hole is a great place to visit . When we visited this week, one of the resident alligators came over to say hi . Very beautiful around that area of Big Pine Key . Many birds here also.
Jo C — Google review
We visited on a late Monday morning in late December 2024. The weather was amazing and there were very few flying insects. The parking lot could maybe fit a dozen cars and there were a few cars there when we arrived. A portion of the trail up the observation platform is paved and great for wheelchairs and strollers. It wasn't a very long walk. There was a set of binoculars and a covered pavilion and benches. Then there is a gravel trail that goes to the other side of the Blue Hole. The trail ends abruptly on the other side with a wooden gate. The hike was fine while short and the biggest downside was the lack of wildlife when we visited. We didn't see many birds or anything. The trail is very shaded with trees. There are a number of information kiosks along the way. Great for little kids and short attention spans. Overall if we were driving down the keys again, this is a short enough hike I'd consider visiting again. If anything, the better trails are just a short drive down the road to the Manillo and Watson Trails.

Nice little stop in the lower keys. Big alligator right off the observation deck. Didn't see any Key Deer here, but spotted one on the road on the way.
Tom F — Google review
Worth a visit while driving in the Keys. The place is very informative about the wildlife: alligators, birds and nature. Unfortunately we didn’t spot any alligator. The observation point is direct on the lake and there is also one binocular.

Our trip to the Blue Hole in Florida was fantastic! It wasn't hard to find at all. We just followed the signs to Ichetucknee Springs State Park and then took a short walk down a nature trail. When we finally saw the spring, it was breathtaking. The water was this amazing shade of blue, so clear you could see right down to the bottom. Sunshine sparkling on the surface made it look even more inviting. But the coolest part of the whole trip? We actually saw an alligator swimming in the distance! It was kind of scary at first, but mostly amazing. It was just relaxing in the water, and it was definitely something we won't forget. Overall, the Blue Hole was an awesome experience - beautiful scenery, easy to get to, and a wildlife encounter that topped it all off!

Trials to explore and wildlife to see. Key Deer everywhere in early evening and an alligator that hangs out in the water at the platform. Very nice place.
Talbert G — Google review
Giving a 5 star review not the park itself, it was tiny and we didn't see much there. Keep in mind that Google doesn't give you the correct directions to the parking lot, so just keep an eye on the handmade sign pointing you in the right direction. However, on our way to the park we've seen quite a few of the cute little Key Deer, which live only in the Keys.

No Name Key is a remote land area in the Florida Keys, home to the Key Deer Refuge and Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The area is known for its abundant wildlife, including the endangered American crocodile and the friendly key deer that roam freely. Visitors can enjoy walks and off-road bicycling in the refuge, with opportunities to see these unique creatures up close. However, it's important not to feed or touch them to ensure their well-being.
Yup we found it. No name pub. Lol. In the middle of some woods. No line No waiting. Pizza and drinks. Pretty good. They said someone came out and estimated $500,000 in their establishment pretty impressive. We also saw these key deer in the area. Very friendly that they walk right up to you. Don't worry I wasn't feeding them only providing fresh water, they looked very malnourished compared to others I saw. Very sad actually 😞..

Cute little key deer running around. Beautiful birds and all the Florida native plants and palms. The drive is peaceful.

Great remote land area in the Keys. The Key Deer Refuge is great for walks and off-road bicycling. You will in all probability see key deer when you are here.

Perfect place to catch the Key Deer, seemingly any time of day! Dont feed or touch them, but they will come near. Drive slow and be safe!

Great hiking! We saw 7 key deer! (some were babies!) Lovely quiet place.

Great little spot off the US 1 to see some Key Deer. Drove down twice and saw deer both times (definitely more in the later afternoon time). Highly recommend to drive to the end of the road (The picture was taken at the end of the State Road 4a. You will see some Key Deer! If you look VERY closely at the photo you can see one crossing far down.
Tyler B — Google review
There isn't much on No Name Key except it's a great spot for kayaking as there is lots of great aquatic wildlife to see and it's also the best place to see the famous Key Deer. They are little deer that live there and are quite friendly. If you park anywhere on the main dirt road and hang out a while they will appear and walk up to you. But please don't touch or feed them

The National Key Deer Refuge Nature Center is a 9,200-acre preserve on Big Pine Key, home to the endangered Key deer and other species like the marsh rabbit. The area offers a variety of activities such as visiting museums, parks, and even encountering dolphins. Vacationers can find different styles of Florida Keys vacation home rentals to suit their preferences. The refuge is an enchanting sanctuary where visitors can observe the adorable three-feet-tall Key deer roaming freely in their natural habitat.
Stopped in close to closing but the staff still took time to walk us through where we could drive to see the Key Deer. When we are in the area, we will make sure to stop by earlier as the small store was already closed.
Patrick B — Google review
The visitor center and national refuge trails were excellent - we saw key deer and an alligator. The guides in both the visitor center and the trails were very helpful. One note - the visitor center is about a mile from the two viewing areas. There is the Blue Hole, an abandoned quarry that is now a freshwater pond. We saw deer, alligator and birds there. A bit past the blue hole trail are two other nice trails to walk. It took us less than an hour to see both areas.
Dave P — Google review
The visitor center and staff are a wealth of information. This is the center not only for the National Key Deer Refuge, but also where you can get information about the other 3 wildlife refuges in the keys: Key West, Crocodile Lake, and Great White Heron. The refuge spans several keys and over wild areas interspersed with residential housing. We drove and visited the Blue Hole and out to No Name Key. We did see some key deer in both residential and wilderness areas. Bring bug spray.
Hannah — Google review
Drive slow and look for houses with buckets of water for the deer. We saw 8 and a fawn coming out of the bush for water. Go in the morning or sunset when it's cool enough. They go deep once it gets hot.
Steve E — Google review
Stopped at the visitors center after hiking some of the trails nearby. Their bathrooms were immaculate, brand new, and air conditioned. Brand new visitors center has a small room with natural history exhibits which were all well done. The real star were the rangers who were staffing the place. They were so kind and informative.
Chelsea V — Google review
Wow. We were traveling to Key West and decided to stop and visit the National Key Deer Refuge. The ranger inside the office told us that we might see a deer, if we are lucky. She explained to us that they are active dawn a d dusk, normally. We drove up to the Blue Hole, parked there and surprise: we saw our first deer, she was eating and was not afraid to see us. Walking on the trail we saw an alligator, a "small" 8 ft alligator that was looking for some food. We also saw a smaller deer and then driving from the blue hole back to the main road 3 more. This was an incredible experience, please drive slowly as they jump in the street unexpectedly.
Sunny M — Google review
Don’t recommend coming without a car if you’re not willing to do a LOT of walking, but the guide at the visitor center recommended us places to walk on the island to best see deer and we saw a ton of them while spending the day trekking around.

Pub
No Name Pub is a hidden gem in Florida, tucked away on Big Pine Key. This classic dive bar and restaurant is adorned with millions of dollar bills covering every inch of the walls and ceilings, creating a unique and quirky decor. The tavern offers an eclectic menu featuring homestyle fare such as chili and their specialty pizzas. It's the perfect spot to grab a beer and burger while admiring the fascinating display of currency contributed by patrons over the years.
This was our second time at No Name Pub. My husband heard about it years ago and we came here about 8 years ago and then in 2025. The people are super friendly, the food (I had the smoked fish dip and it was AMAZING). It’s a very interesting place with great food and drinks and very nice people.

Went to the legendary No Name Pub in Big Pine Key—the place that’s so hidden, I thought I was being lured into a pirate-themed prank. But no, it’s real. It’s famous. And I was hungry. Let’s talk food: it was… fine. Not bad, not great, just kind of there—like a supporting actor in a movie where the lead role is played by the Key lime pie, which absolutely stole the show. Tart, creamy, and sweet enough to make you forgive your meal for being forgettable. Now the atmosphere? 10/10. It’s got that authentic “Florida Keys meets roadside treasure map” energy. Walls covered in dollar bills, locals who may or may not be in witness protection, and the kind of rustic charm that makes you want to drink a beer at noon and buy a boat. Would I go back? Probably. For the pie and the vibes. Just don’t come expecting a Michelin star—come for a Florida Keys experience in its purest, quirkiest form.

One of the most amazing bars I've ever seen, much less been to several times! This place is covered in dollar bills. From wall to ceiling from door-to-door. The service is wonderful. They didn't estimate a while back by square footage. That estimate came out to be $750,000 to $800,000! This place is so cool 😎.

Old Florida. Awesome place. The atmosphere is nice as are the staff. We did not dine here. I heard the place has the best pizza in the Keys. They have some tall bar stools. You even might see some Key deer on your journey to the No Name.

Pizza crust was amazing. Rest of the pizza was a pretty normal pizza. We had the Hawaiian and the meats. It was super cool seeing all of the dollar bills and reading some of the different ones. Very strong pub vibes inside and they mostly played country music. Service was good.

We decided to drive down to Big Pine Key from Islamorada (about an hour drive) and see the key deer and have a late lunch at the No Name Pub. Points of interest: * We saw a dozen or so key deer as we were driving through the neighborhood of Big Pine on our way to No Name. They were not afraid of us and we got some cute pics from the car. * No Name only serves beer and wine. That was fine for us. * The inside looked and smelled clean. No strong bleach or stale beer smell. We were not sure what to expect from a pub. * The inside area is rather small but they do have an outside area as well. * Two surprises. The first was our waitress, Katie. She was fun, energetic, and lots of personality. She turned a good experience into a great experience. We brought dollar bills to sign and staple to the walls. She brought out a box of colorful highlighters to customize them. She also gave us some good recommendations on food. * The second surprise was the food. Based on Katie’s recommendations we order the fish dip and chicken wings (bourbon glaze). Both might have been the best we’ve ever had. Really good. Other items (like their pizza) looked real good as well. The table next to us had some positive comments on it. As most people know before you go there that there are thousands of dollar bills stapled to the walls, ceilings, columns, and beams. It is amazing seeing so many. We had a very positive experience and would recommend this place to friends and family..

We were greeted immediately at the door and seated right away. We went a littler “earlier” (5pm) to get a drink and our dinner to go, but the atmosphere was extremely cozy and our server, Abbey, was incredible. This was our first time at No Name Pub but we will definitely be back! ❤️

Wasn't busy for our lunch but they are set up to handle large parties. Different sections for different seating (backed chairs v bench seating). The waitress was attentive but not overwhelming, the food was good and the portions large. We had the loaded chips and stuffed large nushroom, and a Cobb salad (loaded house). Enjoyable and convenient 😊 Perhaps the house music could co.e down just a little for lunch👍

We stopped in for a few drinks and appetizers. The fish dip was very tasty. The Happy Hour onion rings were great, a large portion, and only $6.50. Our server Jaden did a great job taking care of us.

We ate at Boondocks while vacationing in 2017 and did so again with a party of six in 2025. Their food is great, and the atmosphere is very fun! The rest of our party ate here a second night because they enjoyed it so much. One of the managers was our server, and she was amazing also!

Food was great and the atmosphere is really cool. The coconut shrimp tasted great and they had multiple fresh catch options instead of just one. The only reason I can’t leave a 5 is that the service was incredibly slow. Our server did her best and was working really hard but either the kitchen was backed up or the staff to patron ratio wasn’t enough.
Selena B — Google review
This place is just the kind of family friendly restaurant with an amazing atmosphere with live music and games. It reminds me very much of the classic tropical/beach vibe restaurant I went to as a kid on vacation. The food looked and tasted great and the $5 margaritas on Tuesdays were well worth it. My brother got the bacon Mac n cheese which although it’s a cheaper option, it seemed like a pretty small portion (with no sides), so just be aware of that if you’re expecting a lot of food. But the mahi mahi I got was very filling and at a good price, so I recommend getting that. The mango sauce with balsamic vinegar was a unique and great combination

The Island Deli in Big Pine Key offers an assortment of delectable sandwiches that are sure to satisfy any craving. Their Italian sub is particularly noteworthy, featuring a delightful combination of spices and flavors. The staff at the deli are both friendly and helpful, providing excellent recommendations for customers. While the restaurant may not be fancy or sit-down, it makes up for it with its mouthwatering sandwiches and prompt service. Visitors passing through will find it to be a great choice for a quick bite.
A great little Deli that opened about 2 months ago. Anthony and Jack are extremely nice and hard working. They do a great job to make sure their customers are happy. They even have a military discount. I ordered the Pastrami Melt which was fabulous. My wife ordered the deli Ultimate, normally comes cold but they were nice enough to warm it up for her. She loved it and couldn’t finish the entire sandwich. The atmosphere isn’t much but it is a deli. We will definitely be eating here more.

Great selection of sandwiches from A Cuban, Philly. French dip and traditional. Also have salads and even some ice cream. I had the Italian and it was massive and great. Nice staff with great service and small indoor as well as outdoor seating. We will be back! Thank you Island Deli!

Island Deli has quickly become one of my favorite places. I just tried their breakfast sandwich and it was amazing—hearty, fresh, and really satisfying. I really appreciate the quality they bring to the community, and I’ll definitely be returning!

I came all the way from homestead with me family , everything was absolutely delicious, we tried the pastrami melt, Italian sub and roasted club. Pastrami was out favorite although really hard to get a favorite bc all of them were super good , the soup is great , beans with the smoked ham. Tony and jack gave us a great service , definitely coming back. If you are close by try it ! 100% recommended

We split a club sandwich because it was piled with meat. The mayo and seasoning mix was pretty solid but a little salty. Almost $20 for the sandwich and chips but worth it in my opinion. Overall though they’re doing a great job for just starting out so definitely stop by if you’re passing them and check it out

This owner just opened about a week ago today so the reviews that are older than that need to be ignored! This place was amazing and delicious. It doesn't look like much as far as atmosphere especially on the inside but the food is on point and sooooo delicious! The amount you get is at least 20% more than other deli shops! This guy was kind and really put his heart into cooking and creating the food! Worth the stop!

This women-owned establishment prides itself on using the latest technologies to ensure efficient service and offers dine-in, delivery, and takeout options. Stopped in for breakfast. Food was delicious. I had the western omelette with home fries and sourdough toast and my sister had the biscuits and gravy with an over easy egg and sourdough toast. Everything was cooked perfectly. Big servings — more than we could finish. The server was excellent—she even gave me a taste of grits because I had never tried them before. Really nice relaxed atmosphere. We will be back during our stay

I was genuinely surprised by all the glowing reviews because my experience was far from what I expected—especially as a passionate food enthusiast. The first red flag was an empty parking lot during peak dinner hours. When we walked in, the place was completely empty, and no one greeted us. We ended up seating ourselves, which is unusual for a sit-down restaurant. Mini pillows were oddly stacked on corner tables, which seemed unsanitary and out of place. Although our server was friendly, she didn’t mention any dinner specials or offer any guidance about the menu. We also weren’t given water, which is a basic expectation. The food was frozen, pre made. absolutely disgusting. We left the food just like this as seen below in photos. The drinks were another letdown: the frozen margarita and daiquiri were clearly pre-made, lacking any freshness. I ordered a cider, and it came with the bottle and a glass—apparently a self-serve situation, which felt lazy rather than intentional. Finally, a sign on the table caught my attention in the worst way. It felt like a warning to guests about the quality or service, which made me question the professionalism of the establishment even more. Overall, the experience felt off from the start and never recovered. I wouldn’t recommend it.

We came here for breakfast and it was good. There was only one server, and it became very busy very quickly. I am not sure why only one server, but she kept up as best she could. The food was good, and they even had homemade donuts, which we got for the road. The establishment was decorated cute, and I feel it was probably a fun time at night. I would go back.

What a great place to eat and drink! The staff is very friendly and service is on point. We were down on vacation and made the drive over from Marathon. Food was fabtastic and large portions! We all took back a box. Highly recommend giving them a try! We will be back next trip! 👍👍

I eat here with friends and family constantly over the last 2 years. The service is always great, I’ve never had a complaint. Very clean restaurant, delicious food and great staff. The rooster in the men’s bathroom is a little unnerving I hear 🤣

Coco's Kitchen is a charming family-owned Mexican eatery located in Big Pine Key, offering a diverse menu of Cuban and Caribbean cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. With over 20 years of experience, this petite cantina has gained a reputation for serving some of the best authentic Cuban dishes in the area. While reservations are not mandatory, they are recommended for larger groups.
On the way to key west grabbed lunch after the Bahia state beach park. Got a cubano. Good and filling. definitely hits the spot and gets all of the notes of a cubano. Price is fair and staff is friendly. Worth a stop if you needed a quick bite before you hit up key west.

Food was very good and hot. Fry portions are large and sandwiches are amazing. The employees were so so nice and the atmosphere was calm with good radio music. The prices are very affordable especially for the food quality. Will definitely come back!!

Amazing little diner we stopped off while the Tesla was charging at the supercharger. I had the Cuban sandwich and it was filling, tasty and fresh. My guest had the burger. We were both satisfied with our lunch with fountain drinks. Definitely a great option on Big Pine Key next to the grocery store. Roosters in the parking lot cockle-doing away. lol

We had breakfast and enjoyed it. I had Huevos Rancheros, and my wife had a breakfast burrito. Both were good, but a little bland compared to what we're used to. I guess they want to cater to everyone's taste and in their defense, there was hot sauce available. We did think their tortillas were very good. Oh yeah, we also had guava and cheese turnovers...yummy! I only gave a 4 for atmosphere because the seat cushions are old and they serve you with plastic cutlery. Nothing wrong with that, but I can't justify a five compared to everyone else's place settings. The staff was very friendly and efficient. We will be back to try some of their lunch fare!

I wanted to try Cuban food. I was very pleased with my food choices. I got Tinga chicken special, sauteed chicken with plaintains and Cuban mixed sandwich. Price was great and food was delicious. There is plenty of space for dine in. I forgot the names of the girls in the front but they were all very friendly and helpful. Menu is very easy.
