Luxor

Luxor is a city on the east bank of the Nile River in southern Egypt. It's on the site of ancient Thebes, the pharaohs’ capital at the height of their power, during the 16th–11th centuries B.C. Today's city surrounds 2 huge, surviving ancient monuments: graceful Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple, a mile north. The royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens are on the river’s west bank.

Luxor Temple is a magnificent complex that was primarily built under the reigns of Amenhotep III and Ramesses II, with contributions from Tutankhamun and others. Situated on the West Bank of Luxor, it is part of a spectacular collection of historical attractions that offer insight into Egypt's rich history.
Lovely place to visit! When we arrived there was no queue. You can buy tickets online for almost all visits to temples in Egypt via egymonuments, which can be useful during busier times.

Really cool temple to see with big pillars, even thought size doesn’t matter, they are still huge. It says it closes at 7pm on Google but it actually closes at 8pm, last entry might be 7. Can walk around here for about an hour or 2 and see some really cool history. Would recommend visiting here when in Luxor, especially if you go at night or early morning.

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ A Photographer’s Dream — First Visit & Absolutely Blown Away! As a first-time visitor (and a photographer), Luxor Temple completely surpassed every expectation I had. The moment I walked through the entrance, I felt like I was stepping into a living story thousands of years old. The scale, the details carved into every stone, and the way the light hits the columns — especially at night — is a visual masterpiece. I’ve photographed many incredible locations, but Luxor Temple holds something truly unique: history, artistry, and emotion all in one place. The night lighting adds an extra layer of magic — every corner is a captivating frame waiting to be captured. Beyond the photography, just being there is unforgettable. You feel the weight of ancient civilization, the magnificence of the pharaohs, and the spirit of Egypt all around you. Highly recommend adding this to your must-visit list — whether you’re a history lover, traveler, or creative soul — Luxor Temple is the definition of awe-inspiring. I’ll cherish this experience forever!

A beautiful temple with rich history. Walking through the temple it feels like you are stepping back into time. If you can visit it as the sun set, you can get beautiful pictures. Make sure you have a guide with you to explain all the history to you.

Luxor Temple is an ancient Egyptian temple in the heart of Luxor, built over 3,000 years ago. It’s famous for its huge statues, grand columns, and the Avenue of Sphinxes that once linked it to Karnak Temple. At night, the temple is beautifully lit, making it one of the most magical sights in Egypt
Ali R — Google review
Visited with a tour guide who helped us understand the significance of each structure and its stories. Absolutely breathtaking views of the ruins which are still intact. There are a few seating areas as well for people to relax and observe. The entire experience would take around 1-2 hours.
Ruckshani R — Google review
An incredible ancient Egyptian temple located on the east bank of the Nile. Our guide explained that Several Pharaohs had a hand in building this temple including Ramses II and Tutankhamun. The temple was linked to the Karnak Temple by what is known as the avenue of the sphinxes. This temple, unlike a lot of other temples is opened pretty late and I highly recommend going once all the other temples are closed to see the sunset through its columns. It was absolutely magical.
Jackie — Google review
Stunning temple. Was quite busy but we went just after dark which was beautiful with all the lights. The obelisk is SO much larger in person. Give yourself a few hours here to see everything here. Bathrooms are absolute garbage, dirty and unkept. That was a bit disappointing for such a large attraction.

Karnak is a massive temple complex in Luxor, Egypt, featuring well-preserved ancient ruins and over 200 structures, including the imposing Amen-Ra temple. The site offers private tours with pick-up services from hotels in Luxor, guided by knowledgeable Egyptologists. Visitors can explore the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, and Colossi of Memnon on this approximately 5-hour excursion.
This is usually the first stop of the big three. Karnak is simply mind blowing. You have to be there. Take enough time. And have water with you. You need two hours or more to see everything. Watch out that you get to shadow places to get a rest from the Sun. don’t start doing photos at the beginning. when you do the first walk into the temple just get all the impressions period without being distracted. Go to the halls watch every pillars walks through the right where is the holy sea and walk straight until you can’t go any further because they are still archaeological working on ongoing. Then take a similar way back and start doing photos. You will have an impression by now period. When you do photos of the pillars go down a little bit to get a bit of perspective. Period. I said have enough time with you it’s mind blowing.

The most amazing columns in the world. This temple is probably unbeatable in design and splendour. It is breathtaking to see in real life and you would a day to property explore the place.

A magic historic and ancient temple located in Luxor. You can easily spend hours here, reviewing all parts of the temple which still retains its authentic look and feel from when it was originally built. Would highly reccomend if visiting Luxor - what a find!

Karnak Temple is one of the most impressive ancient sites in Egypt, a vast complex shaped over more than 2,000 years by countless pharaohs. Walking through the Great Hypostyle Hall—filled with towering columns—is unforgettable, especially with sunlight streaming through the stone forest. The obelisks are among Karnak’s most iconic features. Hatshepsut’s soaring pink-granite obelisk stands as one of the tallest surviving in Egypt, while the older, partially standing obelisk of Thutmose I shows the scale and craftsmanship of earlier rulers. These towering monuments add dramatic vertical beauty to the complex. At the back of the temple, the sacred scarab statue is a fun and symbolic stop—visitors walk around it seven times for good luck and blessings. Karnak is vast, atmospheric, and filled with remarkable details, making it one of Luxor’s most unforgettable highlights.
Antony L — Google review
The Karnak Temple is beyond words impressive. Over 100 columns draw the eye ever upward. Every inch of every surface is incised with art depicting the gods and the Pharos. You need a good Egyptologist with you to fully grasp the stories behind the carvings. Stunning!!!

History Museums
The Luxor Museum, located on the West Bank of Luxor, is a treasure trove of ancient Egyptian artifacts. It boasts a remarkable collection that includes everyday items, artwork, sculptures, and even mummies. The museum's deliberate curation ensures that the quality of the pieces on display shines through in an uncluttered and well-labeled setting.
Amazing place, the best time to visit will be at noon, all the artifacts are indoors and the place is air conditioned, especially in the summer as most of Luxor's attractions are out doors and the weather is too harsh. The place is nice and well organized. It is also wheelchair accessible. In one section, there is a special escalator. There are restrooms near the ticket kiosk.
Кarim K — Google review
This museum is quite small, very quite a bit dark! I prefer more lighting in a room but that’s a personal preference. Some nice exhibits, well laid out. We went in the evening very quiet so I appreciated not being overcrowded like some other places.
Katarina P — Google review
Prepare your credit card. Is a national museum. You can visit between 30 min to 2 hours. You ça see some mommy, jewelry, statues, and complete your understanding of Egypt.
Fredy G — Google review
An absolutely stunning museum that showcases the finest artifacts from Luxor’s rich archaeological heritage. Though not very large, the collection quality is top-notch, with every exhibit carefully curated and beautifully displayed. You’ll find well-preserved statues, pottery, royal mummies, and relics from the New Kingdom era — all presented with excellent lighting and clear English explanations. It’s air-conditioned, quiet, and offers a great escape from the heat and crowds of outdoor sites. Perfect for history enthusiasts who want to see ancient Egyptian art up close without the chaos of larger museums. 💡 Insider Tip: They let you photograph mummies here unlike other museums in Egypt.
Theurbanhermits — Google review
The Museum is well maintained and wheel chair accessible. For those who already visited GEM Museum and other museums in Cairo, this Museum might not give the wow factor got for the others. It was closed from 2pm to 5pm for break so visit hours had to be planned accordingly.
Rinu G — Google review
It was one of the best museums i have visited in Egypt. Not to big, not too small. We'll organize. It has some mummies and some historical pieces. Recommended.
Rachid H — Google review
Very interesting museum with some nice pieces. But it’s really small, that’s why I have only 4 stars. If you have being at any of Cairo’s museum, I don’t recommend you coming here.
John B — Google review
Significantly smaller collection than the larger museums in Cairo but very spacious and a good break from the heat in Luxor. Exhibit descriptions are noticeably aging compared to the recent renovated sites but clear to read. Might be the clearest view of a mummy without having to fight a crowd of people. Mummy of Ahmose and a Royal Mummy. Nice section on Egyptian engineering, design and the measurement tools. Not often they get their own exhibit and I find them to be some of the most fascinating items. Card payment only, but worth the 400LE at the time I went 10/25.

The Mummification Museum, situated near the city center close to Mina Palace Hotel, offers a compact yet fascinating collection of artifacts and specimens related to ancient Egyptian mummification. Visitors can view mummified remains of animals like cats, fish, and crocodiles, along with tools used in the mummification process. Despite its small size, the museum provides detailed explanations of mummification methods and reasons for its practice.
It’s a small museum. One large room. You can get through it in 20-30 minutes. Highlights are a mummified crocodile, a cross section of a mummified skull and mummification tools. Recommend reading up online or in a guide book about mummification to get a better idea what you’re looking at. Worth a visit. Air conditioned. They take card.
Ben W — Google review
Well hidden from the main road, it's on the pier level. You won't even see the sign until you are at the Kornish Al Nile and Mabad Al Karnak fork. (See pictures). It is a small Museum, we went first thing Monday morning about 9:30am after they opened. We had the place to ourselves (apart from the workers and security guards). It's only one room as other reviews have said, but some informative plaques on the mummification process and some mummy samples. Tickets were £220egp each, so it's gone up considerably, but still cheap compared to Western museums. The crocodile mummy wasn't as big as the ones we saw at the crocodile museum at Kom Ombo but still fascinating. Be mindful you will need to go up the staircase and walk in an anticlockwise direction to get to the middle of the exhibit (probably for crowd control). Only go here once you've seen everything else at Luxor, as we did.
Yao W — Google review
This is a very small museum but different than being in the heat outside all day! It’s located right on the corniche very way to walk to if you are located right in the middle of the city. I must say it should be cheaper but if you want to see history sometimes we have no choice.
Katarina P — Google review
Small Museum of Ancient Egyptian mummification near Luxor Temple on the Nile Corniche. Really not much In there but the mummified Cat and Crocodile were very cool. 220 Egp, good for around 30 minutes.

📍 Mummification Museum – Luxor, Egypt 🏺🧭 💡 Read till the end for an insider tip! A small yet fascinating museum located along the Nile, offering a deep dive into the art and science of mummification practiced by ancient Egyptians. While the entry fee is quite high for its size, the exhibits and explanations make it a worthwhile visit for anyone interested in ancient Egyptian preservation techniques. Inside, you’ll find visual documentation, real mummies, and tools used during the process — all displayed in a compact, air-conditioned setup. It’s also a great way to escape the afternoon heat 🌤️ Note that guides aren’t allowed inside, but the exhibit labels and descriptions are clear enough to explore on your own. 💡 Insider Tip: Visit this museum right after exploring Luxor Temple — it’s close by and usually less crowded in the morning. Take your time to read the info boards for a quick, self-paced historical refresher before heading to the West Bank 🏺
Theurbanhermits — Google review
Modern display, air-conditioned. But just one room for EGP220? And it does it misses out the first half of the mummification process: why do it; what did they expect of the afterlife; what is used in the embalming process, how to extract the organs; why not save the brain what happens to the heart. There is a good looking human mummy. Only one? There should have been more items. Try Luxor Museum instead, I was told.
Bill L — Google review
As you walk in to the museum on the left hand side is a pictorial view detailing the time line and process of mummyfication which is simplistic but very informative. On our visit there was only one other visitor. Access to the museum is down a number of steps. There is a seating area outside overlooking the river Nile.

Hodhod Soliman Hot Air Balloon Rides in Luxor, Egypt offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience to view the city's history from a unique perspective. The ride provides a comfortable and enjoyable journey with high safety standards. Despite some issues with video footage mix-ups and overcrowding in the basket, the overall experience is well-organized and prioritizes safety. In case of cancellations due to weather conditions, rescheduling or refunds are offered.
This was truly one of the highlights of our trip! From start to finish, everything was so well organised. Our guide Yousry was amazing - he collected us early in the morning with a big smile, made sure we were comfortable, and explained the process clearly. Our captain, Ali, was fantastic. You could really feel how experienced and confident he was, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable and relaxed. Floating silently above the temples and the Nile, with the sun rising over the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, was absolutely magical. They do mention bringing a jacket or something warm for the early morning, but we didn’t need it at all, the heat from the flames is quite intense at times (though thankfully not constant), which kept us warm during the flight. The entire team was friendly, professional, and made us feel safe throughout the journey. Seeing Luxor from above - the farmlands, the desert, and the ancient sites - is something I’ll never forget.

Soaring Above Luxor with HODHOD SOLIMAN: A Five-Star Experience! My hot air balloon ride with HODHOD SOLIMAN in Luxor was, without a doubt, the highlight of my trip to Egypt! From the seamless logistics to the fantastic crew, everything was perfectly executed for an unforgettable sunrise experience. Our day began with our wonderful guide, Yousry, who was an absolute star. He met us right at our hotel, expertly managed the boat crossing over the Nile, and then a quick drive to the launch site. Yousry’s preparation was thorough; he clearly explained all the safety rules, making everyone feel comfortable and ready for the ascent. His friendly and professional manner set a great tone for the entire morning. Once at the launch site, we were in the hands of Captain Ali, a truly exceptional pilot. With 16 years of experience, his knowledge and skill were immediately evident. Not only was he incredibly reassuring and professional, but he was also genuinely funny, keeping us entertained with his commentary throughout the flight. Cruising over the ancient wonders of Luxor at sunrise was a magical sight, and Captain Ali made sure we had perfect views. Best of all, he brought us down with a very safe and smooth landing—a testament to his extensive experience. The entire staff was great and friendly. We were treated so well from start to finish. The coordination between the hotel pickup, the river crossing, the safety briefing, and the flight itself was flawless. If you are considering a hot air balloon ride in Luxor, I wholeheartedly recommend HODHOD SOLIMAN. Ask for Captain Ali and Yousry for a truly remarkable, safe, and fun adventure! Five out of five stars!

Found this place on google maps, if you can sit upstairs it’s such a nice rest from the chaos of the market. Abu Zizo was great at meeting all our needs. We ordered a variety of dishes from soups to grilled chicken, definitely recommend the kofta and the falafel is moist. I highly recommend a visit here.

Other good reviews are not wrong. Very relaxed place on the rooftop overlooking the Nile with views across to the valley of the kings - lit up at night. Food is excellent and a lovely chilled atmosphere with kind staff (even when busy). For a vegetarian there is a lot of choice between traditional Egyptian dishes. The Mahshi, Feteer and Sambousa all excellent. Other customers all seemed happy as well. I would highly recommend a visit here whilst staying in Luxor.

What a wonderful place to escape the busy streets. Very conveniently located on the rooftop of the hotel we are staying at. We are here both nights and it was fantastic. There are many Egyptian dishes on the menu making it easy to try different things in one place. The staff are always smiling and the communication in English was great too. Abu Zizo was attentive and welcomed us back on the second visit (he remembered us from the previous night).

Had a wonderful dining experience at this lovely spot in Luxor! The food was incredibly tasty and fresh – every dish felt thoughtfully prepared with high-quality ingredients. Prices were very reasonable, especially given the prime location. What truly elevated the experience was the stunning view of the Nile River, just steps away from the majestic Luxor Temple – absolutely unforgettable! A special shoutout to Abu Zizo for his warm and friendly service. He made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived. Honestly, the food here was even better than what we had at the popular Khufu restaurant in Giza. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Luxor!

Sofra Restaurant & Cafe in Luxor is a charming culinary spot that provides an authentic experience of Egyptian cuisine. Housed in a traditional and vibrantly decorated building, the restaurant emanates a friendly ambiance that mirrors Egyptian warmth. The menu features a diverse array of local dishes, including delectable mezzes, flavorful mains such as molokhia and tagens slow-cooked in clay pots, and delightful desserts like Om Ali.
Probably the best food we ate in Luxor. We had a selection of cold and hot mezze, all vegetarian, and they were all dishes we’d order again. The feta cheese dip was really excellent, in particular. We also ordered the moussaka, baba ghanoush, hummus, pickled vegetables, stuffed seasonal vegetables, grilled eggplant and felafel. It’s a bit of a hike from where we were staying (at the winter palace) but well worth it.

Silk Road is a fine dining restaurant located within the Hilton Luxor Resort and Spa, offering stunning views of the Nile and distant hills. It is renowned for its Asian cuisine, blending flavors from China, India, Thailand, and Korea. The restaurant's interior exudes elegance, with a young and dynamic team dedicated to providing an exceptional dining experience. Managed by an Indian chef, Silk Road offers a diverse menu featuring dishes from across Asia, including Indian curries and Malaysian soups.
Certainly a spot to go to for fine dining if you crave for Asian dishes. We went for the Indian styled dishes and were pleasantly surprised. Although the chef’s use of tomatoes was a little on the “more” side, overall good taste. The tomato dhania soup was very tasty although it was heavy on black pepper. But it did do the job and I was happy with it. So if you can’t handle a heavy dose of black pepper try and ask for some cream or yogurt on the side to balance it out. The rice pullao was very interesting as the chef has put a twist — added some vermicelli to it. It was super tasty. The service is fast and friendly. The ambience is light and mellow and very congenial. The view is of the hills in the distant across the Nile.

We came this restaurant because there's Asian dishes on the menu. Service was good and food was pretty ok too. We ate here twice and it didn't disappoint. View was good. Facing the Valley of the Kings and there, the beautiful sunset right in front of us...🤩

Never got the chance to eat. No one took names, we were just told to wait somewhere. We (a group of 5) left after 50 minutes with no noticeable progress towards a table. It seems like they only have one or two tables for more than 4 people. Service looked slow as well based on the body language of people say before us. It sounded so good, we were disappointed we didn’t get to try it.

Shout out to Hasnna the main chef for the food, she cooks great curry and it was delicious. We also enjoyed Radwan’s service, he made sure we were well served. Special shout out to Ahmed at the sunset bar, he is a very kind person and would greet you whenever you walk past his bar. He’s also responsible for the drink in the Silk Road. Don’t forget to hit him up if you’re in Hilton Luxor.

Our dinner service was a letdown. The staff was rude and arrogant, earning them a 1-star rating. To make matters worse, the food arrived cold, warranting only 2 stars. We were surprised that our water glasses weren't refilled or even asked about during the entire dinner. Overall, the service was sloppy and unfriendly, overshadowing the mediocre food.

Meat dish restaurant
Restaurant El-Kababgy Luxor is a charming spot that offers stunning views of the Nile and the west bank of Luxor. The menu features authentic Egyptian dishes such as hammam, fatta, and feteer. Chef Ibrahim Rashid's culinary skills shine through in dishes like crayfish and risotto. The elegant atmosphere with candlelight and live guitar music sets the stage for a memorable dining experience.
It’s nearby Sofitel Winter Palace Hotel (walkable distance). The staffs and especially Mohamed (in the photo) are all really nice and have quick service! The food is nice, meats are delicious! Would totally come visit whenever I’m in Luxor again

We had a delicious meal here on a recommendation. You absolutely must order their pigeon. It’s an incredible dish - make sure you use your hands for to eat it for the full experience. Delicious Mezze too. Hummus, pita, baba ganoush, cheese sambousek - all on point. A stand out dinning experience in Luxor for sure. Friendly and attentive staff too.

The view at El-Kababgy during sunset was beautiful coupled with decent food, making way for what was potentially an enjoyable evening. Unfortunately, the service ruined the experience. We felt that we were being chased out of the restaurant, even though we had not sat for very long (30 - 45mins). A few of us had finished our meals, and the staff immediately started clearing our plates. One of our members was still eating but we were already being asked if we wanted the cheque. As soon as we paid, they immediately began cleaning the table. All of this was done so they could join our table with another group that had arrived, despite plenty of empty tables being available. This left a very bad taste in our mouth and made us feel unwelcome. No matter how nice the view is, we would defintiely not come back for this kind of treatment.

What a gem in the heart of Luxor! Our group of Rotarians, in town for the End Polio Now Marathon, had dinner here and were blown away by the hospitality. The staff at El-Kababgy are masters of their craft, serving up some of the best kababs I've ever had while making a large group feel completely at home. The service was fast, friendly, and incredibly welcoming. A fantastic experience from start to finish. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Egyptian food and five-star service!

👍They serve delicious food very fast, next to the Nile and for a good price. We ate mixed grill - kofta ( 💯✅ one of the best i ate, and i am from countries were kofta or ćevapi are common dish),shish kebab and chicken and their specialty Fatta bil lahm (a little bit spicy beef with rice and some tomato garlic sauce). Second time we tried tajin djaj and it was delicious too, besides the fabulously delicious koftas. Lemon with mint was very refreshing and tasty too.

We loved this restaurant so much we came twice, once for dinner and again for lunch. The food was excellent: we tried two different soups (tomato and vegetable), both absolutely delicious, as well as the shish tawook, and the next day the tajin djaj, all perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The setting by the Nile is beautiful, quiet, peaceful, with felucca boats drifting nearby. The staff were very kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Highly recommended!

I can tell a difference since I live in Egypt. Luxor has a terrible food. Portions are tiny for Egyptian standards. All other cities follow Egyptian standards. Lentil soup- passable. You don't have to be a chef to make a delicious one. Lamb chops are tiny and expensive. Chops were tasty. They are even stingy with friends. It's a potato and it's not expensive in Egypt. Salad is of the same size as ordered off Talabat.

This restaurant is right next to the Nile river,so the atmosphere is perfect and there is a good air circulation outside ao you do not feel hot in hot days. Food is very tasty,I personally had chicken salad,I tasted the fish-the fish was absolutely great! And of course one of the staff, mister Mohamed,he was really polite and he made sure me and my family were served with smile and great food. Thank you very much
