Water park
Water & Amusement Parks
Bluewater Lagoon is a popular free-admission water park in the city, offering interconnected swimming pools for relaxation and leisurely swimming. The park also includes an interactive children's water playground, a water slide, BBQ facilities, and picnic tables. Amazing public pool. Preferred the Yeppoon Lagoon for its views over the beach and more deep areas of the pool, but still a fantastic lagoon and amazing to be free to the public. Wonderful to have this available, extremely well maintained and set out. Definitely worth a visit.

I've seen this in a few Queensland places now and a great alternative to the beach and waterways that can be dangerous. Good on you Mackay for providing a free pool and slides for families. It is also in a good location, across the road from the big shopping centre.
Aussirose T — Google review
A great place to chill and relax, cooling off in the refreshing blue water. A fantastic safe place for kids to swim, slide and enjoy themselves… and best of all, it’s free!!
Paul S — Google review
Pleasant, relaxing swim, not too crowded. The day I went there, the cafè had no coffee beans and the waterside was only open on the weekends. Otherwise a great time in the pool, close to shops. Staff and lifesavers were very friendly. Thank you 😊

Bluewater Lagoon is a great spot to cool off and relax. The pools are clean, the facilities are well-maintained, and there’s plenty of space for everyone. It’s perfect for families or anyone looking for a refreshing swim without the beach waves. A really enjoyable place to spend a warm day!
Teo N — Google review
The pool is big and very pretty - lots of space even with a few people there! Being free is amazing, it was very cool experience and fun! Be careful if you are sensitive to chlorine, our friends eyes were quite red afterwards.
Isabel T — Google review
With a very warm welcome water temperature of 20.3°, the is the best place to come and relax, or bring the kids and let the have some fun. And the best thing is that it's FREE. The water is clean and the grounds are well maintained. We went and spent a couple hours in the water just paddling around and relaxing in the shallow waters. We didn't bring the kids this time but these is heaps there for them to do.
Carl B — Google review
Lovely place to bring the children but the water was very hot u need to go to a pool to cool off not very well designed especially for tropical north Queensland I noticed the top pool was closed maybe the water was cooler there and the life savers three of them were huddled together talking to each other the whole time we were there so I gave it two stars

One of the best Art Gallery’s I’ve visited in country town staff where very helpful and the art was a knock out. Face timed my 94 year old mother and showed her the great exhibition she was very impressed. My wife is also an Artist she would recommend you come to visit the gallery. Finished up having Lunch at the cafe. A great all round experience thank you Artspace Mackay and Cafe crew WELL DONE

Not a large gallery. Worth a look. Plenty of parking. No steps. Cafe called Food Space next door. Eat in or take away. Can reserve tables if required. Inside and outside tables. I had the thai beef salad. It was delicious.
Marie R — Google review
The Art Space Museum really opened my eyes… mostly because I didn’t understand a single thing I was looking at. One piece was literally a chair in the middle of the room — and somehow, it spoke to me on a spiritual level. I stood in front of a blank canvas for 10 minutes, nodding like I knew what it meant (spoiler: I didn’t). 5 stars for making me feel both cultured and confused at the same time. Truly, modern art at its finest.
Heidi R — Google review
I had a look at the exhibitions that were on and a quick browse through the shop. They gave me directions to the Art Society, which was really helpful and most appreciated. The exhibitions were interesting.

I enjoy this place, if you want to see lots of orchids in bloom, it's best to ask/call in advance, because bloom time is a very good time to visit, but there are still many other interesting ornamental plants

Italian restaurant
Sorbellos Italian Restaurant is a long-standing establishment in Mackay, offering a wide-ranging menu of high-quality pizzas, pastas, risottos, steaks, seafood dishes and salads. The restaurant has been a favorite among locals for over 20 years and is known for its excellent service and attentive wait staff. The extensive wine list complements the diverse selection of delectable dishes available.
It was really busy so be aware you may not be able to order dessert. The food was great, service was excellent and company the best.

Been coming here for years. This last time I was here was quite a bit of a let down. Every other time I came here it was fresh hot and seem to be made on the spot, which was 4 years ago. However I was here only 1 week ago. I ordered the chicken pesto gnocchi. The sauce was nice but hot and cold in places. I ate a look and took the rest home. When I re heated it the gnocchi turned int like mash potato was strange. Maybe pan fry the gnocchi after boiling to seal it that might stop it from turning to mash potato My friend ordered the spinach and ricotta cannelloni. She sent it back it was really cold in a lot of places. The owner said there now out internet a train the heats it up they put it through twice. It was quite a let down for the price you pay you want it fresh. Hopefully next time we come back I can change this review. They really need to go back to the original way of making it fresh and hot is best!

I worked for Sorbellos Pizza Pasta Express in Andergrove - 20+ years ago as a junior. Prior to leaving Mackay. Tonight I visited the Mackay restaurant with my family. The food was amazing, the service was great, the wine list was fantastic & my kids absolutely loved it and the stories I was able to tell as we tasted our way through the menu. Absolutely recommend ❤️🫶🏽👌🏽
Kylara — Google review
Food was hot and fresh, but how on earth do you put ZERO sauce on a pizza?? Meatlovers pizza supposed to have BBQ sauce, ours had no sauce!! (I have edited, given that we received a call from management within 2 hours of my original post. He was very apologetic and owned the error completely, rather than deflecting it with a pathetic excuse. Immediately offered a replacement, but I declined as we are here on holidays, leaving tomorrow, and the pizzas were still really good!! If we come back this way, we will definitely give them another go!!

Went to The Dispensary for breakfast and oh my goodness — the food was absolutely bloody amazing! Everything was cooked to perfection and full of flavour. The service was exceptional too — friendly, fast, and made the whole experience such a pleasure. Couldn’t fault a thing — highly recommend!

Don't ask for a toasted sandwich. Ya won't get one. I asked if I could get a toasted tomato & cheese & avo sandwich 🥪 on gluten free (dietary requirements at the moment for medical reasons). Told no, i asked if they had the ingredients. Yes, can I have them in a sandwich yes. The pic is what I got. It was $23 for coffee and sandwich. And some reluctant service. There was 4 of us spending more than $100 on some take away coffee and food. Most of the food was OK, and make sure you read the menu they have "little" versions so be pacific they will change the higher price and normal size isn't big... My opinion is give this one a miss theres better friendly places to meet up and have a coffee. Shame this owner seems to live in fantasy world when it comes to customer service and patrons spending there hard earned cash. Maybe it was just me. 🤷‍♀️

Great breakfast options with a twist. Speedy service. Outstanding scrambled eggs! Have not found anywhere local this good. French toast was a hit for us. He loved his wrap soo much, I missed half of it for the shot.

Wonderful service, amazing food and a great atmosphere. The wait staff were extremely attentive. The food was generous serving size and cooked to prefection. It was my Son’s birthday. The food was so delicious, and the hospitality of the host and our table waiter David and Si was very friendly and welcoming. I definitely recommend an evening out at Fusion 128.

Easily the best steakhouse experience in Mackay.. they understand the concept of seasonal vegetables with a meal. The duck was generous and cooked too perfection. Nothing missing from this order. Staff were attentive. Good selection of wines and the armchair dining was an added bonus.

A wonderful find on my visit to Mackay.. This restaurant has a sophisticated feel with nice warming decor and has the food and service to matches well. Excellently presented dishes comprising of fresh local ingredients , which are a delight to consume in this lovely atmosphere. David is a super friendly host that takes real pride in his lovely restaurant..The service is fantastic, so saying all this I have no hesitation in recommending.. To top it off Fusion proudly offers a very well comprised wine list and selection of cellared wine of quality .. This place is the GO in Mackay .. outstanding!! 👏👏👏👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Very family and child friendly

Service was slow, but when it did occur, it was precise and very polite. Had to go looking for drinks waiter after being told by bar staff, we couldn't order at the bar. This was 25 minutes into this experience. I can accept that there will be waiting times, but to be told they had no duck left after an hour after ordering was a great disappointment. The meat wasn't to order. Other meals were lukewarm to cold. The only good thing were the cocktails. That's a yeah nah from me. quack quack.

A Truly Outstanding Dining Experience From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for something special. The atmosphere was relaxed, cheerful, and welcoming — the kind of place that instantly puts you at ease. The food? Absolutely outstanding. Every dish was bursting with flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care and high-quality ingredients. You could taste the passion in every bite. What truly set this restaurant apart, though, was the incredible staff and the owner. Every staff member we encountered was kind, attentive, and genuinely eager to make our experience memorable. The owner is really what makes this place incredible! His warmth and professionalism made us feel right at home. Whether you’re celebrating something special or just want a great meal in a positive setting, this place is a must-visit. We can’t wait to come back! Thank you!

Gosh, where do I start?… The bartender was on another planet or on something at least…The food was served 1.5hrs AFTER placing the order and came out with chewy pork in a ramen dish that reminded me of my childhood…Maggi 2 minute beef noodles. Sad. Completely over priced for chewy pork and a pack of noodles. The only reason why Fusion128 hasn’t copped a 1 star review from us tonight, is because I feel bad for the young waiters who had to deal with unhappy customers all night! Would not recommend at all.

What a great find in Mackay on a recent visit (June 2024) I enjoyed a very nice breakfast of Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict .. And my little mate smashed this cheeky monkey shake! All the food was first class and the venue looks as it would be cool for an evening drink also .. Only marked down a star for no table service .. RECOMMENDED

I want to be fair, the staff who served me was a trainee. However, the trainer wasn’t the best at serving either. Nevertheless, the food was excellent. I ordered beef nachos. It was so good I cleaned the plate to the last morsel. The mango and peach iced tea to wash the food down was perfect. It was refreshing and with real fruit. The ambience was great with non-stop Latin music playing. The classy decor is right for the atmosphere it wanted to convey.

Coco Cubano was one of the last places along this precinct that I had tried for breakfast. It was really hard to find a menu, and it doesn't seem quite as busy as some of the other locations (quite possibly because the menu is so hard to find 🤔). We probably would have walked past if the manager/owner hadn't pointed it out to us. Glad we stopped in and gave it a go though... It was good... But not great. I don't like being called "Love" by the staff (just something small), seems quite gloomy on the inside (just something small), and it took until we were almost done with our meals before the "fresh juice" we ordered made its way to the table (just something small). But it is the small things that matter that make something great... And not just good. The breakfast of choice today was "The big Avo" & "Vegetarian Breakfast". Both yummy... But just lacking those (something small) touches to take them to the next level. Almost there.....
Alister H — Google review
This is an intimate Cuban style restaurant and bar with a collection of small booths and tables inside and larger tables on the street. The cocktails are good and the food is excellent. They don’t have any non-alcoholic beer. The atmosphere is great with Cuban themed pictures and music. Service was functional without being particularly friendly or welcoming and I waited about 40 min for food.
Scott R — Google review
Went there for breakfast, wasn't happy with the Avo Smash considering the price I paid ($13). No effort put into the presentation, flavour or value for money. Avo was just "buttered" on the bread, toast was small, and the small poached egg was overcooked. It was not a good serving size at all. Considering we had to wait nearly an hour for food when the restaurant was half empty. Customer service could be improved as well, we weren't given or offered water for the table and it took a bit of time before a staff member actually acknowledged our presence when we entered. We did let one of the staff members know about our disappointment with the Avo Smash but they did not get back to us when they advised they would. I see this place has a lot of good reviews but unfortunately on this occasion I was not impressed.
Marcella K — Google review
Lovely atmosphere, ordered the Havana beef Cuban pressed sandwich and it was fantastic and would recommend for anyone to get, as all the flavours were great. I would've given 5 stars but the chips served with the meal were a big let down; tasted like stale cardboard. There was also a promise of a pickle with the Cuban sandwich but there was no sign of any.
Matthew W — Google review
A lovely relaxed lunch. One door in and another to exit. Menus are offered by friendly staff and when it's time to place your order at the counter used menus have their own basket. Lunch was delicious. I had the slow cooked pulled pork cubanito & choc frappe, my partner had the chicken wrap with fries. Both meals were filling and yum. My cubanito had a lot packed into it and I had trouble finishing it. I did try very hard!😊 Surprised we hadn't been here before. Out of all the Wood St restaurants, this is my favourite.👍. Definitely will come back.

All the staff were so lovely especially since we had had a bad experience at a restaurant just before going there. The crepes were amazing and I really enjoyed the iced coffee. Well done and thank you for Mali g our night good again

What a shame, have been waiting so long to be able to try this place because operating hours listed don't match actually open hours. The food was so disappointing, purchased a variety of crepes and disliked all of them. The texture is to thick and more resembles a pancake, the filling is flavourless, asparagus is tinned, just overall a bad experience. Considering the place is only open 1 day a week everything should be fresh. Mackay is so small everyone knows each other and is lacking in options so it's not surprising majority of the reviews are positive which unfortunately is not a true reflection of the food served. Only positive is that the staff were really friendly.

I'm glad Mackay has something like this to offer. And I wish it was better 😭 I don't think it's worth it. Crepes were quite thick and rubbery. I asked for water and had to pay $4.5 for a small bottle - why isn't it complimentary? I also think a few tweaks could make it go a long way aestheticly for mood and ambience. Def overrated, I think it's A good option compared to what Mackay offers .. compare to say , Melb restaurants... Womp womp
