Train station
Zig Zag Station is a historic railway attraction located near Lithgow in New South Wales, Australia. The railway line ascends the western side of the Blue Mountains using zig zagging tracks to gain elevation. Although currently closed due to bushfire damage, plans are underway to reopen it as a tourist attraction soon. Visitors can explore the old railway and view well-preserved old trains while taking in the scenic beauty of the Blue Mountains.
Zig Zag Station, is located on the Blue Mountains railway line, in NSW Australia. Zig Zag is the smallest platform station in NSW. It’s a request stop to!

Very cool station, perfect for going to the Zig Zag railway at bottom points station.

The smallest train station in Sydney, because Lithgow is the next stop the train that takes you here will be back within half an hour.
Angus — Google review
The train conductor suddenly stopped the train before my station and dragged me by my legs out of the train onto the singular platform and told me to ‘stay there until the rats find my dead body’. Proceeded to tell me that he would personally make sure no trains came. Closest train station is a 76 minute walk away, but he then kicked me onto the train tracks (very steep) so am unable to access road, and have many wounds across my body due to his rough nature so I am struggling to do so much as move my fingers. Somebody please find me. If I am not thereThe rats have gotten to me first.

Our kids loved it and the adults enjoyed it full heartedly! Great historic adventure.

Nice station for railfanning and i like how small the platform is :)

It is nearly two hours journey from Sydney The Zig Zag Railway is an Australian heritage railway, situated near the town of Lithgow in the state of New South Wales. Zig zag railway and the Newns state forest is a popular place to head with dirt bikes and 4x4's Currently the station is closed due to bushfire damage. The tracks are all fixed and they just need some new carriages which should be due to open backup in 2016-17.

History Museums
Lithgow State Mine Heritage Park, located just a short drive north of Lithgow town center, offers a compelling insight into the history of NSW's Western Coalfield. The site, once a functioning coal mine, now houses an extensive museum showcasing a wide array of mining artifacts and memorabilia. Visitors can explore the comprehensive collection of tools, equipment, and underground vehicles that provide a vivid portrayal of the life and challenges faced by miners.
A really nice museum full of interesting photos, stories and artifacts. Our guide Dennis was brilliant. A former coal miner himself he was a wealth of information. We spent an hour and a half with him, and could have spent more time there looking around if we hadn’t of had to rush off. Well worth visiting!
Chuck H — Google review
Thanks 3rd gen tour guide Gary, A walk back in time where USB ports now charge 6v lead acid mining lamps and giving us a glimpse into the future to a 1958 princess hologram like from star wars Interesting history of coal, power generation, mining, technology, disasters, colonialism, horsepower politics and workers.
Neil B — Google review
We happened to stop here one Sunday as we were passing by and I’m glad we did. It’s a very interesting site with the old structures and machinery still on the grounds. For someone who had no interest in coal or mining, I really enjoyed my time here. The digital holographic information story was well done and staff friendly. $5 entry fee is worth it.
Elena K — Google review
Amazing place, full of history! Our guide Dennis was the best, he worked there and he was able to tell us many stories and how all machines worked. Highly recommended!
Silvia Q — Google review
Our tour guide was friendly and well versed in the history of the site. The museum building tells a fascinating tale about the miners and the site’s history. There are many old vehicles that you are welcome to sit in and enjoy. We enjoyed our visit
Shane B — Google review
Beautiful museum with a whole lot of history. We made it just in time for the tour, which was informative and educational. The guide had a history of mining, so was able to provide first hand experience. Reasonably priced at $5 for adult entry. Final hologram section was exceptional, and also got me shedding a tear. Highly recommend spending an hour there.
Ha T — Google review
A great coal mining museum. Easy to find and sealed roads right to museum car parking area. We were greeted by the friendly museum guide at the old office building where he gave us a quick verbal tour of the site. The office building has many displays in each of the rooms, some of which are videos showing what underground working conditions were like in the mines. The bath building contains larger mining equipment both old and new. A side room, where the mine workers once showered after ending their shift, is a fanatic visual display. The wife of one of the miners is brought to life in a holographic story telling of a tragic incident as she walks amongst items in the display. Amazing when she lights the miners cap lamp. Outside the buildings there is mining equipment of all description right up to the poppet head standing over the now sealed No: 2 shaft into the mine. Great value. I would recommend you get here when the gates open so you have ample time to look at all there is to see.
No A — Google review
fantastic place to have a look around and see a bit of history from the early coal days. you can drive out anytime and have a look around, just be aware that there is a working rail workshop next door so you will not be allowed to go and look at the old trains. otherwise the weekends will be the best time to catch a local (volunteer) guide and have a chat about the old days.

Hassans Walls Lookout is a lookout attached to the story of the construction of Great West Road between 1830 to 1836 by convicts. The lookout is situated at an elevation of 4,690 feet and can provide stunning views of the Blue Mountains. While it's another 40-minute drive from Katoomba, it's worth adding to your tour if you're visiting the Blue Mountains.
This place is a hidden gem in Lithgow. I was raised in the blue mountains and never had seen or been there before even though I have friends who live in here. It was worth the small drive from city centre to have a look. I will come another time to make a day of it as there are other look outs and trails. Lovely surprise to see love locks on the fence line, obviously a special place.
Skye L — Google review
Lovely views and only a short, easy walk from the carpark. There are two lookout points and both easily accessible. Unfortunately, the stone arch has been defaced with graffiti but the views are still great.
Esther P — Google review
Beautiful place to visit! Easy to get to with any car, informative signs showing all the landmarks. 2 viewing platforms and plenty of parking. There are bins & shaded picnic tables but no toilets.
Bianca I — Google review
Fabulous lookout and walkway to an amazing view. It is a 2km dirt road up there but easy for any car. It’s a shame people cannot pick up their loo paper. Disgusting to see this littered everywhere. Great that it’s dog friendly and make sure you walk on the track to the right of the info as it will take you to another lookout with a small cave.
Lisa K — Google review
Fabulous look out and walk way. 360 degree beautiful valley view. We had to short our visit because of chilly, windy and rainy weather.
Dinesh S — Google review
Bit of a rough road with pot holes and bumps along the way, but marvellous outlook over the seven valleys around Lithgow. Easy walk to the lookout. Would be nice if there were toilet facilities available up there. Worth the drive, even if the road is rough.
Julie J — Google review
Hassans Wall Lookout is an incredible spot with breathtaking panoramic views! From the top, you can see endless mountain ranges, valleys, and the charming town of Lithgow below. The scenery is peaceful and truly awe-inspiring, especially at sunrise or sunset when the colours change across the landscape. The lookout is well-maintained, with easy access and plenty of space to enjoy the view. A must-visit for anyone who loves nature, photography, or just wants to take in one of the best views in the Blue Mountains region!
Shafraz F — Google review
Really good view toward hampton and the blue mountains, the road up coming from browns gap road is atrocious and would not recommend doing it in a sedan, hatchback or motorcycle its dirt full of potholes dips and ditches and it sucked was not pleasant but overall view is definitely one of the last best views once you cross over the blue mountains and head straight west

The Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum, situated in the Methven Street, is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and anyone intrigued by military history. Established in 1912 as part of Australia's effort to become self-sufficient in defense production, this museum is housed within the former precision engineering factory. It played a crucial role during both World Wars, manufacturing rifles and machine guns. The site now hosts an extensive collection of civilian and military firearms, making it one of the largest in Australia.
Went to the small arms factory in February 2024. I was so impressed with the collections and exhibition of these delicate machines and fire weapons. Just noticed the recent break-in, it's obviously outrageous. Hopefully, these valuable guns will be recovered soon, and I really want to visit the museum again.
Licheng S — Google review
Amazing museum showing a nationally significant collection of firearms - but also the local history of metal fabrication n the same factory including intricate and amazing metal objects such as sewing machines, handcuffs etc. The volunteers running this place were super friendly and were very well informed. This museum should have more significant financial support from the federal and state government and Thales. If they only got 0.1% of Canberra's War Memorial budget they would be very safe and secure into the future. Support this museum in anyway you can!
Neil M — Google review
About 10-15mins walk from the train station. Very nice people that'll greet you up front. Artefacts are organised. They have very interesting items on the gift shop, useful for camping. I enjoyed the stroll around since I was addicted to action games such as PUBG MOBILE and CALL OF DUTY MOBILE that involves guns. Very intriguing to see them guns up close, especially the small pistols☺️. There were some war propagandas that reminded me of essays back in high school, made me sit there and analyse a little bit😆. Seeing them old switchboards and communication equipment blows my mind, seeing them up close just made me curious with how much it changed after a century. I'm an apprentice sparky so I showed them to the people I worked with and they're intrigued aswell. Would love to come back and have my family to tour.

We had an absolutely fantastic visit to the Lithgow Arms Museum. This place is incredibly rich with history, craftsmanship, and stories that bring Australia’s industrial past to life. But what truly made the experience unforgettable was John and another gentleman whom we unfortunately didnt get the name of. They both went above and beyond to show us around, sharing their amazing knowledge and fantastic stories of days gone by. Their passion and knowledge added so much depth to our visit. It’s a fascinating place, full of character and heritage, and definitely worth checking out when you’re in Lithgow. Support this place as it needs all the help it can get!
Cain D — Google review
If conditions are not good for climbing in the mountains come down to Lithgow and support this museum by paying a visit. Kerry and Keith are fantastic tour guides and have considerable knowledge of the museum and its displays. You don’t need to have a particular interest in firearms. If you have any interest in Australian manufacturing, machinery or history you will enjoy this museum. Thales and Lithgow council need to support the important work these individuals are doing and prevent the loss of an important part of Australian history.
Janet B — Google review
EVERYONE needs to come here. It is excellent and I believe will get better. The details around the history of the site and the manufacturing that occurred here is great. The volunteers there really care about the information and what they are doing. It is done really well and is very interesting. The gun collection has is amazing in Itself but the history of manufacturing that occurred here is amazing. This was at one time the largest small arms manufacturing factory in the southern hemisphere. They have set up as many old pieces of machinery that they can and intend to get some of them working - this is an amazing piece of history and should be HERITAGE listed. A great visit for anyone - get out there - take your children, take your mother - take your wife.
Suzanne P — Google review
Great collection with lots to look at, over 2 floors. Everything is labelled for your convenience so that you know what your looking at. If visiting in these colder months, rug up warm because it's an old cold building. Good gift shop too 👍

Lovely Tour guide Fiona was informative, curious and authoritative on local history. It is said that the owners married for inheritance and There were no children sired in the bed room... Ha ha, Ironically at the same time there was a bee conference on seeding flowers and the servants quarters had bars on the window so the convicts did not buzz off and seed the local flowers .lol

The Commercial Hotel Motel in Lithgow, located at 198 Main Street, offers a comfortable stay for 1-3 nights. The hotel rooms are small but adequate, with basic amenities and a cozy bed. However, some guests have noted issues with the TV and bathroom facilities. The location is convenient, close to shops and the Lithgow Station. The dining experience receives high praise for its exceptional food quality.
Have stayed several times, cheap price and still a great place to stay. Loved having room 19 over 23 as it wasn't as easy to hear the noise from the pub. Will be staying again in the near future.

Slept a night after a wedding and was nice to get to clean sheets, warm room and the toilets were clean. Thankyou. A little noise from pipes? Water? Not sure. However good for a night. Please thank the room service as l have done this job 10 years ago and it's a fast pace, rushed job. Good on you cleaners! Underrated tough job.

Stopped in for lunch today and whilst the food was fresh (I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel Burger and my brother had the Aussie Burger) that is where our experience gets the 3 stars. The pub part of this location is quite run down and is overdue for a refurbishment. In saying that, the staff that served us were very pleasant and helpful. Did not utilise accommodation so the review does not include this.

Paid for a motel room. No smoke detectors in my room or adjoining rooms. TV doesn't work as no antenna fitted. No AC. No powerpoints at bed. When I asked the staff, she just put her arms in the air and shrugged. Said she would tell the boss. Also it is a very noisy intersection.

We booked at stay for 4 nights. I would recommend anyone to stay here. The rooms were clean and well maintained. We got dinner from the restaurant on Saturday night delivered to our room. The food was fresh and large portion sizes, also well priced. The grounds are beautiful and maintained. Even though it’s in the main highway, we didn’t notice the road noise. Couldn’t fault the service. If we are ever in the area again, we will stay here again.

Booked two rooms for one night.excellent location great rooms very spacious and very clean.nice fluffy towels and linen. Nev was very helpful however the lady at reception in the evening had a condecending attitude. Came in for dinner in the restaurant .the food was good the service was poor.the ladies serving seemed to find it hard to be friendly.perhaps that could have been due to our skin colour. Don’t let the Motel entrance fool you. Frankie’s offers a rare experience of luxury within Lithgow. The setting is ambient with soft music and a warm fireplace. The service is quick, friendly and efficient. The food was incredible. The beef ragu was one of the best I have ever had, comparable to the best Italian restaurants in the Sydney CBD. The Blue cocktail was delicious and quick to our table. Prices were worth what you were getting in terms of food quality. I definitely recommend.

A positive experience. Good service. Staff gracious, welcoming and attentive without being at the table more than necessary. Quality food, though 1. Prawns served in a hot dish with the Handel directly above bread - kept away from each other would be safer; steak plate: Great steak perfectly cooked but a few too many flavours on the plate - would benefit from being a little simpler. The triple chocolate cake was very delicious- rich, and a portion size that could have served two. I’d suggest that the hard toffee be much thinner for the health of customers teeth. Typically Australian where quantity seems to be huge portions, but unusually quality of product not compromised. Ambiance: Ditch the cheap smelly plastic plants and the ugly table with the cleaning products on it; the music was at a fair level, not intrusive; temperature comfortable; chairs comfortable; general noise level comfortable. My best experience over the past 12 months since returning from (most of) the past 10 years in France, London, Basel y Madrid Thank also to my waitress Elly

Wouldn’t even give this place a star if I had a choice, the pizza was dry and not tasteful. I’d never go back there, the hub down the road is much better. The owner and staff were incredibly rude and dismissive, we understand that you might have been there all day but not a sour face at the customers would be nice, we weren’t the only one.

Rang up as a regular customer, as the last 2 times I have ordered the amount of wings in each pack has not matched what I ordered. I spoke to staff, to ask why I was not getting what I ordered. Andrew I think it was, said I got the right amount of wings so there's no issue. I stated but I didn't get what I ordered. He chucked a tantrum,I will send out one wing that was wrong. You are ment to communicate not act like a toddler dude. Maybe customer service is not your thing will bring it up with your owner. I just wanted an apology and assurance it wouldn't continue to happen. Had you listened I would of been given the chance to explain this.

A very simple pizza outlets. I visited on Sunday. Had only 2 staff members managing everything in there. The Indian guy was impressive and good to deal with. The tables were dirty and had used boxes on them. The lady attendent was good to deal with as well. She was smiling. Mostly pizzas were fresh and as it was snowing outside, fresh pizzas were to die for. Service was decent for two people. It was efficient. In the street is lots of parking making this a great place to get a quick tasty meal.

Whether I’m hanging with friends or treating myself after a long day, it’s my go-to comfort food. Fast service, friendly vibes, and pizza that slaps – what more could you want?!"
