Yaroslavl

Yaroslavl is a Russian city, northeast of Moscow. It's part of the Golden Ring group of ancient towns. On the grounds of the 12th-century Spaso-Preobrazhensky (Savior Transfiguration) Monastery, the golden-domed Transfiguration Church has 16th-century frescoes. Collections at the Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve include 16th- to 18th-century icons. Multicolored glazed tiles cover the Church of the Epiphany’s exterior.

Specialty Museums
The Museum "Music and Time" in Yaroslavl is a unique attraction featuring a diverse collection of antique musical instruments, clocks, gramophones, and more. Visitors can enjoy hands-on exhibits showcasing the impressive assortment of items curated by the late magician John Mostoslavsky. Knowledgeable guides, some fluent in English, bring the museum to life by playing many of these preserved items during tours, creating an immersive concert experience for visitors.
We've walked there by chance and never regret it! Very nice, although small, museum with a lot of bells and antique mechanical musical instruments. Excursion is a must and included into the ticket price
Vladimir B — Google review
The Music and Time Museum in Yaroslavl is a unique cultural site that combines a private collection of antiques, musical instruments, and household items. The museum was opened on November 27, 1993, and it was probably one of the first private museums in post-Soviet Russia. Its founder, John Mostoslavsky, was a renowned illusionist and collector who had been collecting exhibits for over 50 years.... Now, his family is carrying on his legacy. And this is remarkable. The exhibition includes musical instruments: gramophones, gramophones, organ grinders, harmonies, records and clocks. There is also a collection of bells - from bells to church, arranged in a chromatic scale to create melodies. Among the exhibits are antique clocks by European masters and many other interesting items. The museum is interactive: visitors can listen to the old instruments during the tour. True, the pleasure is short-lived, somewhere up to a minute on the instrument. But it gives an idea of the instrument. The girl conducts tours with knowledge, energy, interestingly, and informatively. The museum is located in the former estate of the merchant Vakhromeev on the Volga embankment, which adds to its historical flavor.

This place will impress a person of any age. You'll get to listen to music played by various ancestors of speakers, learn about different types of watch, see many bells and hear some facts about irons. The location is easy to find, the excursion lasts for about 40 minutes.

The Monument to the 1000-year anniversary of Yaroslavl is a stunning historical landmark situated in Arrow Park. This majestic monument attracts visitors with its grandeur and serves as a convenient spot for photography. The park itself is well-maintained and offers paths for both cyclists and pedestrians. While the park lacks ample shade, it compensates with breathtaking views of the Volga River and the Assumption Cathedral.
You must go here if you're in Yaroslavl. Very beautiful river beach side and a memorial.

Today, on January 7th, I visited the Tolga Monastery to celebrate the Nativity of Christ. This remarkable place is adorned with stunning architecture and is surrounded by a well-maintained and spacious compound filled with beautiful flora. The weather was delightful - sunny with a hint of frost in the air. One notable feature was the Cedar Grove, which was accessible for visitors to explore. The monastery holds great historical significance and houses precious icons that reflect its rich heritage.
(Translated by Google) A divine place where you relax body and soul. Quiet, calm, peaceful. A very beautiful, large, well-groomed area, surrounded by numerous flowers and varied greenery. White swans 🦢 and peacocks 🦚 live on the territory of the monastery. There is a gorgeous cedar grove where the ancient icon of the Tolga Mother of God is located. Delicious local cuisine. You can have a hearty and inexpensive lunch at the local refectory, and also buy various pastries, jam, and dairy products with you. I really liked the drink made from birch sap with orange and lemon. It refreshes and tones well, especially in the summer heat. Tolgsky Monastery is the place where you want to come again and again!

(Translated by Google) The first wall, the outer one. It turns out that this is not quite a Monastery yet... A small, cramped, but free parking lot. We parked about 200 meters from the checkpoint gates. I paid the nun sitting there, according to the posted tariff, 200 rubles for the right to take pictures on the territory, although, as it turned out, it was not necessary to do this. Immediately behind the checkpoint is the first trading area, including gardening and vegetable planting material. And a long path, about a kilometer slightly downhill through the monastery fields to the Monastery itself, which opens up very beautifully from this road. At the end of this path, a small climb to the complex of pilgrimage buildings, a passage through it; again a small trading area and... ...the second wall, the main one and the Spassky Gates, through which the bulk of pilgrims and visitors enter the Monastery (today is Sunday, there are many of both). Another one - the Holy Gates - opens to the Volga and works for tourists arriving by water. The territory is small, but very well-kept. Work on its arrangement and the temples continues. There are many people both in the temples and on the territory, but the nuns have not caught my eye the whole time. Taking photos in the temples is strictly prohibited, on the territory - as much as you like. Calls for visitors to dress appropriately for the place do not work on everyone, but no one is driven out. The third wall, the inner one, opposite the Spassky Gate. It has a gate leading to a cedar grove. The territory of the Monastery, adjacent to the Volga, is also very beautifully landscaped, however, especially the passage from the pier to the Holy Gates is squeezed on the left by the existing estate development with a blank fence along the entire path. A beautiful place. A beautiful Monastery. Must sees. Must sees.

Ioann Vasil'yevich Restoran is a charming restaurant located in the Yaroslavl area, offering top-notch food and a great ambiance. The place has an interesting theme related to the film 'Ivan Vasilievich changes his profession,' with unique toilet facilities resembling an elevator. While some find the menu slightly pricey for Russian cuisine, others appreciate the delicious and standard dishes offered. The warm and cozy atmosphere, along with friendly staff members, make it a delightful dining experience.
Unfortunately we couldn't book a room with our company last weekend but really wanted to have a nice lunch here. It is a warm and comfy place with nice decorations. The food was very good, I had a very good shashlik. We even loved the coasters that they have that we bought them in the store. A big complement to the staff who were very friendly and always ready to help. Next time I definitely will book a room here.

The main theme of this restaurant is the toilet. It looks like an elevator you have to press a button to open and close. The atmosphere is associated with the film Ivan Vasilievich changes his profession. The food is good but I think it is pretty expensive because the menu is standard for Russian cuisine restaurants. But everything was tasty and I think if you don't try to find unusual dishes it is a good place to have dinner.

"Багет, паштет и жёлтый плед" is a charming spot in Yaroslavl that has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Renowned for its delightful breakfast options, the restaurant serves up some of the best syrniki around. The menu features an intriguing pate plate, although one item surprises diners as it’s actually soft cheese. While the bruschetta with burrata could benefit from additional sauce or salad leaves, it remains a tasty choice.
This is my favourite place in Yaroslavl. I brought so many people in this restaurant with myself. By the way from the other countries and they are all say that it's very good place with very good kitchen and atmosphere. I'm recommending. But they are need to have a menu in English.

Good place for breakfast. Syrniki are the best I've tried. Pate plate is interesting, though one of the "pate" is actually a soft cheese. Bruschetta with buratta lacked some sauce, or salad leaves, or both; but was tasty otherwise. Yoghurt with dates is good as a dessert. Coffee was mediocre. They also have a good place for kids with a sandbox, big slide and many more.

Nestled in the heart of Yaroslavl, Penaty stands out as a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. With its exquisite decor reminiscent of an 1800s aristocratic mansion, complete with rich wood paneling and plush seating, guests are enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere enhanced by soft jazz melodies. The menu boasts a diverse selection of starters, mains, and desserts crafted with exceptional quality and artistic presentation.
Probably the best and undoubtedly the most refined restaurant in Yaroslavl. The interior looks like an aristocratic mansion from the 1800s with rich wood paneling and boiserie. The tables are large and well separated from one another, with plush chairs to enjoy your evening in a very elegant environment. The food is also very good and the menu quite varies, with classic Russian dishes (the Beef Stroganoff was excellent) as well as more modern takes, such as the crab salad or the revisited Pavlova dessert. Service is very formal and unobtrusive to guarantee privacy and relax. Prices are commensurate to the level of the establishment and there are also very enticing business lunch options at a much lower cost.

In my opinion, this is a very good place. They have a lot of Russian food and the prices are really low. All food was delicious, we ate Russian oven soup, rabbit and beef. Their own tinctures are fine but pretty standard. The bakery products are good and very cheap. I think it is one of the best places in Yaroslavl.

Can't say this restaurant is perfect and every dish is yummy. Some of them are good, some are not really. I ordered fish dumplings, that I knew, were famous in that area "must have try". However I expected much more better flavour. They tasted really simple, without any sauce, just floating inside the salty soup...

I definitly recommend this place to everyone who's going to visit Yaroslavl!

This place is not perfect, but since I cant place 4.5 or starts by categories, I place 5. Food is mostly delicious (especially dishes that are cooked at Russian traditional oven), service is a bit slow and place is quite busy even during day time. Location is the best, you can enjoy walking by the river embankment after the lunch or dinner and it's great)

If you find yourself wandering the charming streets of Yaroslavl and your stomach starts to grumble, look no further than Гастробар DUDKI. Nestled on Sobinov Street, this unique bar-restaurant offers a delightful twist: diners can peruse its personal library while enjoying their meals, merging culinary pleasure with literary exploration. The atmosphere is vibrant, especially on weekends when the place comes alive with music and laughter.
This is by far the best lunch/dinner spot in town. Excellent food, superb service, great atmosphere and design. I’ve had lunch here two days in a row. I wish I found this place in the very beginning of my trip. Pumpkin cream soup is to die for. Seriously, the food is just awesome.

Nice food, nice people and very good atmosphere. It was one of our favourite places in Yaroslav. The only thing I have to say is that chicken meat once wasn't very well made (dudki dish or smth like that) but otherwise all great. Deserts too!

based on reviews we thought it would be better than it was. it was good, just not great. cafe area upstairs is open and spacious, but the bar downstairs is cool and servers good Manhattans.
