Klagenfurt

Klagenfurt, on the eastern shore of Lake Wörthersee, is the capital city of the southern Austrian province of Carinthia. Its emblem is the Lindwurm, a winged dragon, of which there is a fountain on the main square, Neuer Platz. Nearby, frescoes and reliefs adorn the opulent 1500s cathedral. Baroque and Renaissance buildings line the narrow streets around Alter Platz, with its yellow 17th-century Old Town Hall.

Minimundus, established in 1958, is a must-visit tourist destination featuring over 150 intricately crafted models of world landmarks set in a lush park. The attention to detail in the designs, made from various materials like marble and sandstone, accurately simulates famous structures such as the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, and Statue of Liberty.
We visited this place around 10AM on a Sunday and there were still enough available spaces for parking. They have a lot of miniature attractions around the world but there isn't a single one from their neighboring country, Slovakia, such a pity. Anyway, the facilities are good. There are toilets, restaurants, and benches where you can get some rest. The ticket is not cheap but worth it. A family could stay the whole day because there is no time limit and there are a lot of things to see.

I must say I was quite impressed by this place. It's not very big, but it's really beautiful. The tickets are affordable and, if you're in Klagenfurt, I think it's worth seeing. There's also a coffee shop inside if you want to have a drink or something to eat. I highly recommend it!
Gergana T — Google review
We had a really nice trip. We went around the world in three hours and had a fantastic time. We all enjoyed it, my husband and I, but also our children. The weather was warm and sunny so we were really lucky to walk around the park, enjoy and take pictures. This is my big recommendation for all parents because it is guaranteed to be a good, beautiful and useful time. The park is excellently and creatively done, there is an inner and outer part of Minimundus as well as a big wheel. There is also a gift shop with souvenirs and a restaurant where we had lunch.
Sanja D — Google review
Nice experience. Big free parking in front. Adult ticket was 21€. The park is not too big, not too small. You need 2 to 3 hours to see everything. The mini replicas are very detailed. The plants, flowers and grass are all curated in a way to fit into context of the minimundus. Many of the replicas are animated... mini trains travel around, crains loading containers on cargo ship, wind mills, water mills, space shuttle... everything moves. Really nice. There is also a bar and restaurant inside if you get thirsty or hungry and a panoramic wheel if you are not affraid of hights. Recommended.

Minimundus: A World Tour in Two Hours! If you're ever in Klagenfurt, Austria, you absolutely must visit Minimundus. It was definitely worth the day spent there, especially with kids! It's an incredibly educational and engaging place where you can literally travel the world in about two hours, viewing hundreds of perfect miniature models of famous buildings and landmarks. The models are so nicely maintained, and the entire park is designed to be easily accessible and fun for all ages. I highly recommend carving out some time for this unique experience—it’s the perfect way to spark curiosity and learn about global architecture and geography!

Beautiful place for families and as adults we enjoyed it very much, too. Only missing part is Something from Slovakia. For example Blue Church would be beautiful miniature.

My daughter and i enjoyed our weekends trip here in Klagenfurt and Minimundus is one of my dreams to go to with my kids! And my daughter enjoyed it much!!! Definitely coming back here in the future.. Minimundus ✅ Well recommended when you visit Austria 🇦🇹🥰 TOP! 👌🏼

What a novelty! Really fascinating especially because they use original materials as much as possible. The detail is incredible and I appreciate the informative signage and moving parts - for example an elevator in the Eiffel Tower and a space shuttle “launch”. Walked around for about an hour with a friend and enjoyed the sunshine. Almost no one else there on a weekday.

Top museum with a very interesting collection and professional team to maintain it. Well accessible, children friendly, very central. A must during the visit in Klagenfurt.

Nice Museum in an old building in the Center of Klagenfurt. In the first floor you will the exhibitions. Lovely rooms with old ceilings. I like the mix between the old building and modern art. In summer there is an open air cinema in the great Courtyard. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take pictures.

The Museum of Modern Art Carinthia is an institution of the province of Carinthia, which, according to its educational mission, is committed to the public, society, and the arts, to the artists. The Museum of Modern Art Carinthia is the successor of the Carinthian Provincial Gallery, which was reopened in 2003 as a Museum of Modern Art Carinthia after a major reconstruction of the building and whose infrastructure, content and responsibilities it has taken over. The Museum of Modern Art Carinthia is dedicated to the collection, preservation, exploration, documentation and mediation as well as the general promotion of modern and contemporary contemporary fine art, as it was formerly the Carinthian Provincial Gallery. It is a place of encounter and active engagement with new and newest art trends and tendencies. These will be presented in a varied exhibition program with supplementary scientific publications and conveyed in a wide-ranging accompanying program vividly and discursively, and documented in the art collection through acquisitions. On around 1000 m² of state-of-the-art adapted exhibition spaceBoth young and already established national and international artistic positions are presented in individual and thematic exhibitions. The Kunstraum Burgkapelle is also available as a location for experimental artistic projects and installations. In the arcade of the first floor in the inner courtyard of the castle, objects and sculptures of the collection can be seen in the form of a permanent display. The castle courtyard also offers around 650 m2 of playable terrain under the open sky. The Museum of Modern Art Carinthia manages two art collections, the art collection of the province of Carinthia / MMKK and the collection of Artothek / Kärntner Landesgalerie. The latter is the picture rental office of the Kärntner Landesregierung, which is also run by the Museum of Modern Art Carinthia. The collection area of both collections refers to works of the 19th, 20th and 21st century, the focus of the collection is on works by Carinthian artists or with Carinthia reference. The in-house librarymainly serves scientific research in the home. It mainly includes publications on artists of the own art collection, as well as exhibition catalogs of well-known museum institutions in the German-speaking and in the Alps-Adriatic region. External visitors can access the library on request. The archive documents the artistic life in Carinthia in a collection of newspaper and print collections. The MMKK attaches great importance to a varied, exhibition-related placement and accompanying program, which offers not only classical guided tours but also creative and interactive offers as well as events from the fields of literature, music, performing arts, etc., and allows access to art in a variety of ways.

Austrian restaurant
Gasthaus im Landhaushof is a charming restaurant located in the historic palace of Landhaus, offering a modern twist on traditional Austrian cuisine. The establishment is perfect for gathering with family for a Sunday lunch, featuring classic dishes alongside seasonal vegetarian options. Guests can also enjoy the cozy garden set within the nearly 500-year-old seat of the Carinthian parliament.
Excellent Austrian cuisine. Nice choices, and I went for the roast goose. No regrets. It was delicious, as was also the beer that I ordered. Service was very good, but this is not a place for quick cheap eats. For real Austrian food of good quality, it's a place you can rely on.

Great place, exceptional food. As for the service, could be a bit warmer. I get it that not everyone speaks English but a small attempt of trying to assist, goes a long way.

Very good spot for schnitzel and a beer. Located in a courtyard area away from the town traffic. Pork schnitzel with potatoes was really tasty as were the soups we took as starters, although these could have been served a little hotter. House beer also decent. Got busy after 7pm on a tuesday evening in july, but service still good. Would go back.

We ate here twice on a recent stay; we’re an English couple and thought it was exceptional. Service was always prompt and friendly. Drinks: both beers and local wines were great. Food was delicious and suited us perfectly. A fairly small menu, still with plenty of choice at various price points. All food arrived quickly and hot bearing in mind we were sat on the outdoor terrace. For international visitors, they produce a menu in English & Italian which is appreciated. It’s well worth asking for a menu in Deutsch , as on Sunday there was a 3-course set lunch which was only on the local menu, not on the international version. This was a pork soup, liver with crispy onions (best I’ve ever had in 57 yrs) and an apple ravioli for dessert. It’s a fantastic place to enjoy a drink and meal and watch the World go by. We loved it here. Danke schön.

Great place. Has an old vibe with huge wooden tables. The waitress was super nice and the meal arrived super fast! I could have just a couple of gluten free dishes (the cooked meat or meat with gravy). The dishes were like cooked at home. Really tasty but a bit pricey.

30 minutes waiting for food, but it was worth it, all wasy very tasty. We tried goulash soup, fried chicken with fresh salad with large red beans, dumplings with cheese and fried noodles with pork and bacon. Service was kind, and the place really beautiful, surrounded by old architecture.

Cathedral
Catholic church
Church
Klagenfurt Cathedral, also known as Dom zu Klagenfurt, was constructed between 1578 and 1591 and has been the cathedral of the Prince-Bishop of Gurk since 1787. The basilica features distinct white washed walls and green tiled roofs.
I had the privilege of attending the holy mass for Easter Sunday. It's an absolutely stunning church/cathedral. It may look very simple from the outside, but it looks cute during spring when the trees still wear pink leaves. However, once you take a step inside, the interior is something one has to take pictures of.

Exceptionally beautiful and ornate cathedral. Even if you are not a believer and speak no German, try to catch a Sunday mass there. You will get to see and experience the cathedral in a hole new light.

Very nice, quiet... Lots of slovene language inside (newspaper Nedelja, statues with slovene inscriptions,...). Walls are lovely mixture of pink and white stucco. I know I made one strange round photo.... Thank you Father/Jesus/Holy Spirit for everything we got and everything we will get. Pax et bonum to all.

I GIVE MY LIFE FOR STUCCO ITS SO BEAUTIFUL
Tracy C — Google review
One should read a few paragraphs about the history of this church to appreciate what we can see today. The tall tower is the only ornament of the west front. The interior is the result of reconstructions in the 17th century, resulting in a ring of galleries. The pulpit and, opposite, the apotheosis of John of Nepomuk are fine examples of baroque craftsmanship.

Nestled in the heart of Klagenfurt, Restaurant Dolce Vita is a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. Renowned for its gourmet offerings, this charming bistro showcases the creative talents of chef Stephan Vadnjal, who specializes in crafting exquisite Mediterranean dishes with a focus on seafood and fish. Each plate bursts with fresh flavors, thanks to the use of homegrown produce and high-quality ingredients.
My kids and me spent a wonderful lunch time while visiting my parents in Klagenfurt at DV. The owner and chef, Mr Vadnjal, informed us about his 30 yrs experience in his restaurant and his passion for high quality & pure nature cuisine. Dolce Vita is absolutely worth spending a lovely lunch or dinner time at. My family and I fully enjoyed the tasty food 👌

One of the best Austrian restaurants (and we live in Vienna) :) the food was superb, fresh, very well cooked, service also excellent- perfect place for a date night. Thank you!

Wonderful location in such a delightful nature surrounding. Besides the restaurant provides extraordinary service to the guests for swimming and boat rides at its own private lake zone. How nice! We ordered chef’s creation and local specialties, mixed Kasnoodles, Homemade veggie noodles and dessert Zwetsch-Tiramisu. They are all very delicious. The prices are very fair according to the quality of foods and service, of course the enjoyable atmosphere is a Plus!

The food was fantastic but a little on the pricey side, but worth it given the views. The decor was a little dated (inside) but the outside patio was amazing with clear view into the lake from anywhere.

This place by the lake is worth a visit. Although it was blisteringly hot, we enjoyed the wonderful courgette, pumpkin, cashew salad and pumpkin seed dressing, as well as the handmade pumpkin and sage stuffed pasta pouches. Fresh, cool, unforgettable. The lady who served us was very professional, pleasant and offered us fans to deal with the terrible heat. It's worth a visit if you're in the area.

Located in the heart of Klagenfurt's old town on Pfarrplatz, Bierhaus zum Augustin is a top-notch beer pub offering hearty Austrian dishes and a variety of specialty beers. The establishment boasts a charming outdoor dining area in the courtyard, adding to its cozy and hidden charm found throughout the old town. With an emphasis on regional and delicious Austrian cuisine, this spot is perfect for those seeking authentic flavors.
Great local place where to eat local food and local drinks. The atmosphere was very welcoming. The staff was friendly. The locals were also friendly. And the food was amazing. The wienersnitzel was crispy outside and tender inside and the chips were perfectly cooked. The local beer from this place is a must if you ever visit it. Highly recommended, 5 stars!

Rustic and traditional venue serving Austrian classics. I had the schnitzel with potato salad. While the portion was generous and the food arrived quickly, it wasn't particularly exciting. The schnitzel was decent, but nothing memorable, and the potato salad could’ve used a bit more flavour. It’s the kind of meal that fills you up but doesn’t really stand out.

Very good typical food in cool place with fast service. Very kind waiters, one of them was able to talk in Italian and helped us with the choice of the dishes. Good their own produced beer
Marco V — Google review
The service was efficient and direct, without unnecessary delays or excessive formalities. The food was excellent, the canederli and pork medallions were particularly good. The prices were average. At the time of the bill, the waitress presented me with the bill without tip and asked me directly how much I wanted to leave, which seemed a bit imposing to me. Personally, I would have preferred more discretion. It's the first time I've experienced something like this in Austria, where normally the tip is left in a more discreet manner."

Great atmosphere, perfect service really loved it. We just visit here on our way back and very glad to spend some time to get out the road. It’s hard to find a table better to make reservations before. Beers are really good and have good variety of beverages too. We tried Wiener schnitzel and chicken schnitzel, the portions were big easy to get full. The chicken were pretty good, we loved it, wiener was also but its a bit salty. Service was fast and cheerful. They also accept dogs inside. Good to visit with couple of friends and enjoy the beers.

Industrial-sized, but still kind of authentic Bavarian beer hall – in Austria. :P Service is fast: if they feel like it, they’ll understand your english… if not, they won’t. The vibe is clear: eat and drink quickly, as much as you can, then free the table for the next round. Food quality is good, portions are absolutely massive. U don’t go if you’re on a diet :D

The best meal I have had this year! Absolutely incredible food, wonderful staff. Could not recommend more highly. Thankyou so much.

I want to start by saying that the staff was super friendly and serviceable, including the owner (I think it was the owner) of the restaurant. However, I can't give this place more than 3 stars because the food was, unfortunately, not very good. The steak was very tough, chewy, and unevenly cooked. The vegetables that came with it were great, though. I would still recommend this place to other people, just avoid the steak.

According to reviews one of the best sea food places in Klagenfurt. Sorry NO. The service was good, but the food is below expectations.. It’s Italian food cooked by non-Italians. The Muscheln were frozen… I do not recommend this place.. Rather go to Tarvisio for much better and cheaper sea food
