Estepona

Estepona is a resort town on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain. A palm-lined promenade, the Paseo Marítimo, runs next to the Playa de la Rada beach. Nearby are the restaurants and water sports facilities of Puerto Deportivo, plus a fishing port and the cove of Playa del Cristo. The whitewashed old town centers on the flower-filled square of Plaza de las Flores, home to the eclectic artworks of the Colección Garó.

Notable street
Plaza de las Flores is one of the main squares in Estepona, where traditional Andalusian food stalls open up and locals dress in traditional Spanish attire. The city's feria, which takes place from the first Wednesday of July until the following Sunday, features a lively fairground at Recinto Ferial and a vibrant parade on Saturdays.
Happy we took time to visit the city center away from the hotel. Culturally enriching

Beautiful, stunning plaza with lots & lots of restaurants and bars. A must.

Great place for food , superb location to enjoy Estapona

Such a beautiful plaza with lots of great food options
Clara D — Google review
Love the place. Surrounded by restaurants, hotel and cafes. Highly recommended.
Ross T — Google review
Lovely square scattered with restaurants and bars all around! Also well kept and the hotel looks beautiful
Zero G — Google review
It's all been said by others. Beautiful setting. Some varied and great quality dining and icecreme options (recommend Avocados). One or two of the properties are (surprisingly) still in the process of gentrification, but these don't really impact. One of the boutique (?) hotels in the square - with rooftop dining - is pretty amazing, with prices to match mind you! This is a must-visit place in Estepona.

Beaches
Playa del Cristo is a family-friendly sandy beach just outside Estepona town, known for its shallow crystal-clear water and sunbed rentals. It's perfect for families with young children, as it has easy access to a car park and two bars for drinks and snacks. The area boasts 17 beaches, including Playa de la Rada and La Galera, along with seven beacon towers that are part of a historic defense system.
Lovely beach with children - they can walk quite far out without it being deep. Food at the chiringuito was lovely. Just remember your sun umbrellas unless you want to spend quite a bit on suns beds etc.
Abbey C — Google review
A nice couple of beach bar restaurants. It is next to the marina on the other side of the motorhome car park. A large beach with a sheltered cover for children to bathe in away from the occasional waves. A nice walk along the coast is also available.
Legin N — Google review
Lovely beach in Estepona. Shallow water for about 50m. Bar restaurant requires booking for a meal. Recommend a visit. Parking is busy.
Bill T — Google review
Beautiful sandy beach, without a the pebbles that are on the La Rada beach near the town centre. It also has two Chirenguitos to choose from.
Sue L — Google review
Lovely place food is good staff are friendly Dog Friendly outside . Unfortunately, the sunbeds take the best views.
Hetty I — Google review
Lovely beach, very clean and shallow water with no waves. You can paddle out quite far just up to waist deep. If you stand still, you'll see plenty of little fish through the clear water. Showers on site to wash sand off and lots of free parking nearby. I'd bring some snacks and drinks with you as the restaurant is poor. The beech gets very busy over weekends and summer holidays, as expected. There are some sunbeds and shade but you have to be early.
Stephen L — Google review
I went here mid September, the weather was beautiful. The sand is the darker grey/brown colour and the beach was pretty clean. There are 2 beach bars and both rent out sunbeds, we went to the bar with the padded sunbeds which were €10 each. The food at this bar is not a snack type food, so no sandwiches etc, but they do sell snack foods for you to eat on the beach. There are more restaurants a 10 minute walk at the Port. There is also plenty of free parking.
Jackie F — Google review
A beautiful bay with an impressive view of the rock of Gibraltar. Being beyond the fishing port and the marina, it is quieter than the long beach which runs the length of Estepona.

Playa de la Rada is Estepona's crown jewel, conveniently situated just a short five-minute stroll from the vibrant Plaza de las Flores. This stunning beach stretches for 2.5 kilometers along the coast, boasting clean dark yellow sands and inviting azure waters that beckon visitors to unwind. Unlike its more famous neighbors like Marbella and Fuengirola, Playa de la Rada offers a serene escape with fewer crowds, making it an ideal spot for relaxation.
Beautiful beach! Very long shore, not crowded, especially on week days.
Anja O — Google review
Lovely big beach with umbrellas and sun-beds €20 - although they are quite a long way from the sea so most people used their own, toilets, lifeguards, only problem for two days were jellyfish with white and yellow warning flags.
Stephen S — Google review
An absolutely beautiful and expansive beach with many options for food and drink along it's entirety. Venture a few more yards and you'll find some local shops too. On a clear day Morocco and Gibraltar stand out and dominate the southern skyline. An inflatable eater-borne assault course is also available in the summer for those who have some excess energy to burn... Although, I believe it is a 'paid' experience. Weekdays are naturally much quieter than weekends but there's always a space somewhere to enjoy the day.
The B — Google review
Its an amazing place very lively at night local are good family friendly can get over crowded so if you go with kids keep eyes open all the time in terms of safety seem like ok but then again can't say it's true
Le'You Q — Google review
Very nice beach, clean public toilets, open air showers and wash stations. They are places to rent beach chairs and umbrellas. Many playgrounds for children. On the weekends they have craft fairs. We were there in June and it was not crowded at all.
Pisica V — Google review
Beautiful location and love visiting with my family, the kids are could do with a refresh but overall a great place to visit, sit on the beach, eat tapas, ice cream or enjoy a beer.
Paul B — Google review
Beautiful and less touristy than Playa del Christo. However, not so suitable for kids. Good infrastructure

Wide and long beach with dark sand. Good infrastructure and never too crowdy, not even on the weekends. The water is cold, like everywhere in this region I guess but the overall experience od very OK.

Orchid farm
Museums
The Estepona Orchid House, also known as El Orquidario, is a modern botanical garden located in the historical center of Estepona. It features striking modern architecture with three glass domes and houses a diverse collection of 5000 plants and 1,300 species of orchids from around the world. The centerpiece is a 17m high waterfall that adds to the enchanting atmosphere under the glass ceilings.
For a relatively small space, there is so much to see. The orchids are stunning. Give yourself time to study them up close. Some are tiny and delicate, others big and blousy. Also, the different textures in the greenery were beautiful. A few other plants too, what looked like a stunning passion flower. If you love plants, it's well worth a visit.
Claire K — Google review
The Orchid House in Estepona is a nice spot to visit, although not very big, so the tour finishes quite quickly. Inside, you’ll find a well-organized collection of plants and orchids, with a small waterfall that adds charm to the atmosphere. Nothing truly spectacular, but it’s beautifully designed and worth a stop if you’re nearby. Don’t miss the outside area as well, which is also very well arranged and pleasant to walk around.
Adnane — Google review
Great little side quest if you’re looking for something other than just beach and food. Full of tons of orchids and if you’re a plant nerd I’m sure you’ll be delighted. Only comment is the tour and signs could be a little better organized and little less technical.
Patrick F — Google review
Absolute hidden gem and a must-visit for anyone who loves nature, tranquility, and vibrant plant life. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a refreshing burst of greenery, soft light filtering through the glass dome, and the soothing sound of waterfalls — it feels like entering a peaceful tropical paradise. The collection of orchids is breathtaking, with delicate blooms in every color imaginable. What’s truly fascinating is how the Orchid House showcases flora from different continents — from lush Asian orchids and tropical plants of South America to exotic species from Africa. Each corner reveals something new and captivating, and the layout allows you to explore at a relaxed pace. The building itself is beautifully designed, blending modern architecture with the natural beauty of its plant life. The vertical gardens and the suspended walkways offer lovely views and photo opportunities. Whether you’re a plant enthusiast, a photographer, or just someone looking for a serene escape, this place is a wonderful experience. A visit to Estepona wouldn’t be complete without spending some time here — it’s a perfect reminder of how diverse and beautiful our planet’s flora truly is. 🌿✨

Beautiful spot. Lovely cool space to escape from the scorching midday son. Tranquil piece of paradise. Stunning orchids and plants. Photographer’s dream.
Daniel P — Google review
It was the best experience I ever saw .The orchids were beautiful and the museum was very lovely

Lovely little place to while away an hour looking at all the various orchids only 5€
Trevor L — Google review
A hidden gem with a breathtaking surprise I walked through a rather modest entrance into Orchidarium Estepona, almost underwhelmed—until the doors opened into a truly magical space. What greeted me was a grand, glass-domed room housing twin waterfalls cascading down into an indoor lake, set within a lush, subtropical paradise. The sound of water and gentle mist in the air instantly transported me into a rainforest oasis. Spread across three levels covering roughly 1,000 m² (15,000 m³), the orchid house features over 1,300 species and 5,000 tropical plants—some orchid blooms are indecently tiny, while others tower majestically. You’ll discover everything from miniature orchids to rare beauties like the ‘Elephant Ear’ or even the haunting Amorphophallus titanum. The central waterfalls, towering around 15–17 metres, provide both spectacle and essential humidity to this micro‑climate. Accessibility is excellent too—with lifts between levels and smooth paths, it’s easy to explore even with mobility constraints. At just €3 for adults (and €1 for kids), the Orchidarium is incredible value. No need to pre‑book—just turn up and you’re in. In summary: • First impressions: Unassuming entrance leading to a jaw-dropping display. • Highlights: Twin waterfalls, vast orchid collection, domed glass design. • Practicalities: Affordable, accessible, open most days (closed Mondays). • Worth it? Absolutely—for plant enthusiasts, photographers, or anyone seeking a serene escape. Highly recommend spending around an hour here—the perfect blend of botanical wonder, architecture, and tranquillity. A must-visit in Estepona!

Historical landmark
In Estepona, a must-see attraction is the Castillo de San Luis, where visitors can explore the ruins of a Moorish watchtower and the foundation of a Roman mausoleum. The castle is part of a historical route that includes the promenade, Las Flores square, and the church of Santa Maria de Los Remedios.
small castle but the renovation is quite nice and there’s great history- and it’s free- open M-F 10-2 and 5-8pm. https://ayuntamiento.estepona.es/noticia/18458-el-ayuntamiento-abre-al-publico-el-castillo-de-san-luis-como-centro-museistico-tras-las-obras-de-recuperacion-y-conservacion.html

They have done a great job opening up this small castle, and some interesting things on display. Only €1 entry.
Jhoni — Google review
I love how other countries make everything possible to preserve their history by restoring important locations.I really enjoyed visiting these remains and they made a great job preserving it. It's really small, from what i understood it was just the battery part of the castle, so it's pretty small, it will take you just a few minutes to see it all, but the most beautiful part is that they have alot of items on display old since the 1700s.You can find jeweleries, ceramic figures, different objects that are part of their history. It's very interesting. the entrance fee is 1€ , you can pay cash or card, and is very easy to find it, being just a couple of streets away from Plaza de Las Flores, in the old town, in a wonderful area that seems out of a fairytale.
Queen R — Google review
Not much to see. Only few remnants of a castle. The area is pretty though with pretty streets and restaurants
Džeina E — Google review
The small interior with several display cases containing historical artefacts is worth seeing, but do not expect a large archaeological collection. The interesting exhibition of walls and glass floors is noteworthy. Tickets are very affordable.

Seafood restaurant
Restaurante La Escollera is situated in the vibrant Estepona port and is renowned for its fresh seafood offerings. The restaurant boasts a prime location on the western Costa del Sol and prides itself on serving simply cooked, daily-delivered fish from its own boat. Despite being a popular spot, the venue offers excellent service with quick table turnover, ensuring minimal wait times.
Food delicious. You don’t have to choose fried dishes to enjoy what this restaurant has to offer. The natural, steamed or raw are amazing. The razor clan 1/2 racion was not enough so we had to order a second full one :). It’s busy & understandably so. So don’t expect fawning from the staff.
Suzanne B — Google review
Great place with amazing selection of seafood! 🍤 if you want to try different things this is the place to be. Make sure you are there for 20:00 or you book a table in advance as it gets busy. Menu has plenty of choices so take your time to review. You have similar options fried and grilled.. all amazing.

Amazing authentic sea food restaurant in estapona port,a simply amazing variety of every fish incredibly fresh and delicious. You can't book just turn up and queue so may have a 20 minute wait. Definitely worth visiting

Authentic and delicious 👌🏽 Worth the waiting time. Ordered too much food but took in with us in a doggy bag, so had a delicious lunch today with the leftover from seabass, veggies and fries 😍

Food was superb. We arrived on a Saturday at 2pm which is their peak time. I don't recommend coming at this time. I didn't like the way we were welcomed, I asked how long we'd have to wait he just said "ni idea", also he didn't mention that we could have eaten cold dishes in the tall tables without having to wait 2 hours to get a table.

Went here because of the reviews but I don't understand..the food was just ok, overpriced, service was ok, the place just seemed dirty. The way they treated these poor lobsters...Alive and sitting on top of ice/dead fish just seemed weird and gross. Would definitely not go here again.

Mediterranean restaurant
Seafood restaurant
Restaurante El Pescador is a traditional eatery located on the promenade next to the sea, offering a variety of seafood and Mediterranean dishes. The open-air dining area provides stunning views of the beach and sea, creating a perfect atmosphere for enjoying a meal. The restaurant is known for its excellent service provided by lifelong waiters. One of their standout dishes is the rice with carabinero, which is full of small pieces of squid and impeccably prepared.
Fresh fish and tasty seafood! Naturally salty, crunchy, and absolutely deliciously prepared.
Victoria G — Google review
Been a few times so can't be that bad but it's a variable experience. Food is OK and my current poor experience is probably my own fault for expecting scallops as I would get at home. What arrived were tiny shellfish with no meat to speak of, at 5 euros each, for what they were I thought pricey. The service varies tremendously as well from really good to terrible. Will probably come again as I like the location and it can be a pleasant experience. Apparently I need to order peregrine's if I want what I consider a scallop.
Simon S — Google review
Food/service is Fine but they don't tell what the daily price is, the king prawns apparently cost €180 the kilo or 4 prawns cost €110 !!! Outrageous! We will never come back .
Jan D — Google review
Excellent food and great seaside restaurant with white tablecloth service at a reasonable price. We had probably our best fresh grilled calamari (on a bed of squid ink spaghetti) ever! Friendly, efficient service and a great bottle of Albariño white made this a perfect spot for dinner along the picturesque Estepona beach promenade.
Donald — Google review
We had a reservation and were on the last table of the terrace close to the Italian restaurant. The downside of a table far from the entrance of the restaurant is that when waiters are less attentive, it is very hard to make an extra order or get anything in between like an extra drink and you have to wait a long time. Some restaurants have a perfect system for this, and all the restaurant owners in Estepona should have a close look at how Alma de Miquel manages this. Another downside of the terrace here is that there is so many people walking by. it's a little uncomfortable, but that is not the fault of the restaurant. The food is good, clearly focused on fish and that is great. The meat not so good but not bad either. If you want great meat, go to Las brasas de Alberto.
Armand H — Google review
Fabulous Food We ate here with my family a few months ago and thought the food was really good, super fresh fish, really work it. The gambas were excellent! Highly recommended.
Paul V — Google review
Nice restaurant right on the beach. A great selection of fresh fish and seafood on a daily basis. We had the paella- it was slightly overdone for my liking. It’s more expensive than other local fish restaurants but you’re paying for the location!
Zero G — Google review
The food was really nice but the whole evening was ruined by the most unfriendly waiters and waitresses i‘ve ever met. Not only one of them, rather all but one were completely rude. We were not greeted when arriving, just asked „name?“. Drinks and dishes were served without saying anything, they didn‘t ask us if we liked the food when clearing the table. While serving the starters, the waitress spilled the sauce of one scallop and bumbed into one of us without apologizing. We complained after paying and instead of accepting the criticism professionally the waitress told us „that we have to practice more to learn better spanish then“. Thats unaccaptable behaviour. It seems the staff doesn‘t like guests who don‘t speak spanish perfectly or do even speak english.

Restaurant
Restaurante la Rada is a popular Mediterranean restaurant in Estepona, known for its local seafood, rice dishes, and 'Joselito' ham. It's located near the Blue Flag beach of the same name, offering sea views and easy accessibility from the town center. The area also features other chiringuitos along the coast like Palm Beach and Blue Dolphin, as well as upscale options such as Tikitano and Puro Beach Club at Laguna Village complex.
An excellent restaurant facing the beach in Estepona Spain. The staff were amazing as was the service and the food. We ate earlier than the Spanish do so we missed the dinner crowd and that was just fine with us. All the dishes were flavourful and fresh. I am certainly going back the next time i'm in the area and I can recommend that its worth a try.

The first time I ate here we sat "on the beach". The N340 was little more than a sand covered track. The decor has changed :) , as has the road :( , but the food and service is still marvellous. Great wine list too. Sorry people, we were hungry and tucked in, and I forgot to take photos of most the dishes - and was half way through the dessert when I remembered to take one of "it". An institution. I wish La Rada many more years to come. Edited - Added more photos from subsequent meals. Must expound the virtues of the very professional, friendly staff. Such a joy to eat here with service as it should be. Edited again - If I could leave another review I would. Splendid, professional, friendly service, we love how the staff remember details and make you feel like a valued regular, even if you do only get there ever now and then - If we lived nearer it would be more now than then ;)

Extremely disappointed! For one miniature plate of their traditional starting snack & rolls for 7 people was a joke and at €2 per person! The miniature starter for 7 people wasn't even asked for, but how did they expect 1 tiny plate to appertise 7 people. So it was a €14 to begin with. Paella was ordered for two people, but their plates were only 70% full, waiters gave a poor excuse when questioned about the quantity. The Waiters were very impatient, wanting to remove plates when not even finished. Whenever in that area again ill go The Pescador. In future I'd prefer eating in La Linea any day, portions are bigger, prices are good, pleasant staff and great ambience!

The best fish/seafood in Estepona! I couldn’t recommend this place enough! From sea to table- it’s that fresh! The scallops were so juicy and full of flavour. The mussels were the best I’ve had in Spain- the sauce they were served in was absolutely amazing! The tuna was seared just how I asked for it! (It comes with peppers etc usually but I wanted it with lemon and black pepper only) The monkfish was cooked to perfection. Moist and the perfect texture! One of my top 5 restaurants on the Costa del Sol

5 stars without any question! Great food, great service, great location! Located in the centre of the old town, in Plaza de las Flores, this place made me feel welcomed! I had a wonderful steak , cooked perfectly and very tasty! The wine list is good, i had a great pinot noir and i couldn't drink the whole bottle so Liliana (one of the waiters) put a tag on it and kept it for me for the next day.I totally recommend the anchovies sqewers, the crab bruschettas, the tuna croquettes and the beef steak! The outside terrace is beautiful but they also have another patio which is quiet and more intimate.Miguel, Edgar and Liliana are super friendly and attentive. I recommend this place 100%!

Came here with my parents for dinner and we were over all very disappointed. As other reviews state the initial service was good. After ordering our food however the standard decreased dramatically, mine and my mums food came after waiting for over an hour and my dads food was forgotten about for another 10 minutes until we complained and a waiter returned with his food straight away. I ordered the noodles with king prawns, they were just simply disappointing in every way, the noodles themself were bland ,not cooked properly and had a bitter salty taste, the prawns were not deveined. I am aware that they do not need to be deveined to be safe to eat when cooked properly, however when you’re at a seemingly high end restaurant it is reasonable to expect food to be prepared to a higher standard, therefore I was left disappointed. I raised this issue with our waitress and she was just rude, interrupted me as I was explaining why I was disappointed and just insisted that I was wrong. I am hoping she will see this review as her customer service was just poor. The monk fish was also tough and lasagna was below average. She took the noodles off the bill which was generous but didn’t listen to any of the reasons why we were disappointed and just interrupted me. We were really disappointed with this meal as we were looking forward to it before hand, I really hope they improve their service as there was other nice features such as a blanket on every table for when it gets colder. The young man working was also helpful with wine suggestions.

Argentinian restaurant
Restaurante Sur, located in central Estepona, is renowned for its Argentine-style grill and unique menu that combines exquisite cuts of meat with Arab elements. The restaurant has been serving top-quality chops, entrecots, ribeyes, t-bones, and tomahawks on the Costa del Sol since 1994. In addition to its charcoal-grilled meat dishes, the restaurant also offers a selection of fish dishes.
Delicious food, gambas pil pil are must have and steaks are amazing! Definitely recommend this restaurant while visiting Marbella!!

My wife ordered the skirt steak, which was very good and served in a generous portion. I ordered the suckling goat, but it was disappointing— two bones with less than three ounces of meat. Surprisingly, my son’s kids’ spaghetti had more meat than my plate. What really bothered me, though, was that the prices on their website menu were noticeably lower than the ones on the menu at the table. When we asked the waitress about it, she said she would check but ended up ignoring us to the point that other person came with the check.
Dennis D — Google review
I recently visited Restaurante Sur, and it truly surpassed all expectations. The Black Angus cube roll and Galician veal chop were absolutely to die for; I’ve honestly never tasted meat so perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The desserts were exceptional, and knowing they’re all homemade made them touch the heart that little bit more; you can really taste the care and love that goes into everything. My husband and I also had the pleasure of meeting the owners that evening, who kindly shared a bit of their story with us. They’ve owned and run the restaurant for over 30 years, and hearing their passion and history made the entire experience even more meaningful. Thank you so much for such a beautiful evening and we’ll definitely be back again soon on our next visit!❤️
Jamie K — Google review
Extremely disappointing – Sur is no longer the steakhouse it used to be We’ve been loyal visitors to Sur for years and have always enjoyed the food – until now. On our latest visit with friends, we ordered two steaks: a 600g Angus Roll (which was fine) and a 1kg Hereford (€79), which was a complete letdown. Although we ordered it medium rare, the Hereford was chewy, sinewy, and filled with fat – almost entirely inedible. We barely managed to eat 200g of it. I’m 50 years old and have had Hereford many times before, so I know what to expect. I showed the poor quality to the staff, but they brushed it off and claimed, “That’s how Hereford is.” That’s not how quality meat should be – and it’s definitely not how a serious steakhouse should respond to a legitimate complaint. A place that serves such a bad cut of meat and refuses to acknowledge it is no longer a restaurant I can recommend. Sadly, after years of good experiences, this visit may have been our last.

Rude management, disrespectful service – nothing like it used to be I had been a loyal guest at SUR Argentinian Restaurant in Estepona for many years. It used to be one of my favorite places – excellent food, friendly staff, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, since the apparent change of ownership, everything has gone downhill. The manager’s attitude is now arrogant, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. Instead of handling feedback or simple questions politely, guests are met with condescending comments and a lack of respect. What was once a place known for genuine hospitality has turned into an experience where you feel more like a burden than a valued customer. The food has also declined significantly – tough meat, cold side dishes, and a noticeable lack of care in preparation and presentation. Even small details, like the restaurant’s website being offline, reflect a general sense of neglect and disorganization. Conclusion: Since the change in ownership, SUR Argentinian Restaurant has lost everything that once made it special. Rude and condescending management, poor service, and declining food quality. A real disappointment – 0 out of 5 stars.

Absolutely fantastic food, service and attention to detail. Fillet cooked to perfection. A birthday meal to remember. Thank you.

Fantastic steak with a warm cosy atmosphere to boot! There’s a great choice of meat on offer and the staff are super knowledgeable! It’s one of the best priced steak houses around! Oh and try the provolone for a starter!!!
