Modern museum built over a partly excavated fossil site, housing remains of multiple dinosaurs.
Slide 1 of 8
Very big place with around 2 buildings inside to visit. Just a few dinosaurs in the park outside of the buildings 1 is like a museum and an archaeological excavation site where the dinosaur fossils were found. First building has no elevator so need not stroller/wheelchair friendly The other is more interactive with more 3D short clips with up to 3 stories to walk. Once out you can take a short walk up the hill. Its also mixed with modern contemporary art exhibition of dinosaurs Very informative if you like the Jurassic Period. I would say it takes around 2-3Hours to finish exploring the place.
Amazing place to visit. You can see the original findings. It was crowded though due to holidays.
It's a bit far away from the main city of Kunming but I think it's worth it if you, like me, love dinosaurs. Even though I think it's mainly geared towards kids, I still enjoyed it and don't regret my decision of spending a day of my trip to China in this museum.
I was very impressed with this museum. I took my two-year-old son here, and it reawakened my interest in dinosaurs. World-class collection of fossils, and the in situ exhibit is breathtaking.
Fun visit. There are a lot of different exhibits form life size moving dinosaurs, a 4D cinema and fossils.
A great place with children, so many interesting varieties of dinosaurs and well preserved dig site to show how they were found.
One of the best museums in the world for in situ dinosaur fossils.
World-class museum. One of the only places on earth to see dinosaur bones in situ. It's a bit of a drive from the city center.

Lots of hands-on exhibits showing how salt was mined in unique & ingenious ways; inside a historic building; this is a must-see in Zigong. The salt industry in this area was on a grand scale, and once made this among the richest cities in China. Capitalism in China arguably began in Zigong (see book "Merchants of Zigong" by Madeleine Zelin) - here you can see "China's oldest stock" contract from 1779. Exhibits have English translations.
M U S T GO T O Great museum detailing the history of the brine extraction in Zigong. Covers the initial finds and the evolution of the technology to extract the brine by drilling and pumping. Lovely historic buildings and informative staff (CN language only)
The salt wells of Zigong have been used for ages and are the basis of modern extraction technologies for hydrocarbons. Clear explanations in a peaceful museum with a large courtyard, take a look to the shop with some books (in Chinese) and salt fresh extracted from the still working site that is part of the museum, few kilometres from it.
Very interesting place, full of salt mining history. Interestingly western oil drilling technology started as Chinese salt well drilling techniques. Pretty amazing place. They still mine salt there!

(Translated by Google) Behind the salt are the tears of Zigong people. Since the Ming Dynasty, salt mining and trade have created a unique social environment in Zigong, attracting a large number of workers and merchants from western China. This building has evolved from the earliest residence of the Shaanxi Chamber of Commerce to the government office of the Republic of China, and has become what it is today. The history museum.... It has a detailed introduction to the history of salt mining, tools, technology, trade uses, etc., but I think these contents are far less than the modeling characteristics of the building itself and its own historical accumulation. The eaves are a rare "flying eaves" shape in China, and the "Wang Ye Temple" across the river maintains an opposing effect, hinting at the relationship between competitors in the salt industry. My guide said that this "Xiqin Guild Hall" carries the memories of most Zigong people. When Zigong City was officially established as an administrative jurisdiction (1942), it had reached the second largest economic aggregate in Sichuan, second only to the provincial capital Chengdu. This kind of The advantages of industry drove Zigong's economic vitality until it began to decline in the 2000s. After that, Zigong relied on the tourism service industry to find another way out, but this did not revive Zigong's economy. It can be said that this museum has witnessed the city's process from prosperity to decline.

This museum seems a little neglected. I must say it didn't seem like it saw many visitors, which would explain this. There is apparently an admission fee, but I was able to roam around without paying. I simply walked in. However, the lights were not turned on and although there were big windows that let sunlight in, it was not ideal. It would've been nice to see some lanterns lit up. After walking around all four levels of the museum, I asked the staff why the lights were off. They told me they would turn them on if I paid the entry fee!! I found the lanterns on display quite interesting but they seem to be all modern lanterns. There is very little history; there are some signs in English that attempts to explain some history but they don't really say a whole lot. 1-2 hours would suffice. It is close to the salt museum.
