This castle ruin is located off a main road so easy to find. It is up a hill but not difficult to walk. Definitely with the visit, especially for the views.
If you enjoy ruins then you must see this. It's an amazing set up on a hill that overlooks the countryside. The remaining ruins are set in three sections each have some hidden gems. Terrific photo opportunities as well and based on the size of the parking area (very small). Not a ton of people go there at one time. I really enjoyed the history behind it. If you enjoy history and can imagine the fortifications it's a terrific place to see.
A phenomenal ruined castle situated in a breathtaking spot high above the valley, once owned by the great medieval statesman and knight William Marshal, this should be top of your list if you're in the vicinity. Free entry and parking.
Rock of Dunamase is a fantastic little stop just off the main road. We were driving from Dublin to Killarney. I was looking for a place to stop and stretch our legs. This was perfect; better than I hoped for. There is a small little parking lot. From there you can see the ruins. It's just a short walk up the hill to the site where you can walk amongst the castle ruins. The views on top are incredible. You can really soak in the beauty that is Ireland. Free. Easy to Access. Stunning.
Very cool castle ruin to stop at just south west of Dublin on your way south to Cashel or Cork, planned it as our first stop in Ireland after the long flight. Arrived around 10:45am and it was quiet. Very few people around. Beautiful views at the top. (Slight incline up but easy enough) no bathrooms tho so find a bush lol. Plenty of parking at the bottom of the trail next to the old church. Tour busses do drop off crowds of people so go early if possible.
Beautiful castle. It has parking just on the access door. It is bigger than it looks and the view it’s just amazing. Definitely will recommend to visit it.
Fabulous views 360, nice place to relax and reset too, great history. Locals very friendly just respect area "Leave No trace" - parking very limited. Well worth a vist
Visited on a Saturday afternoon. Parking was tight, but we were still able to find spots along the road. 5 minute walk up the hill to wonderful views. The kids loved all the nooks and crannies they could explore. Even with a few car loads of people, it didn’t feel crowded. Great stop if you’re driving by.

I really enjoyed stopping here on my way to Kildare. I learned a lot about a bit of Irish history I was not aware of. The hosts were very kind and knowledgeable. Worth the visit.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny and kept us entertained. We were there near closing time and she made us feel like there was no rush. There are a lot of donated pieces of history here, and it was good to be able to go around and see them. The bathrooms were spotless.
What a place with an abundance of HISTORY and the guide Michael a Legend unrelacepable. As for the Site itself Laois County Council should be ashamed of itself to let an Historic place like this left abandoned SHAMEFUL. It's our history preserve it.
Took a detour today and so glad I did. Sean is a fabulous guide all the dates and figures, don’t know how he does it. It is heartbreaking hearing the history of this place and workhouses in Ireland. It is also heartbreaking that Laois County Council are not investing in this. They deserve funding and more visitors. I was a lucky person today to have ‘personal’ guide.
It was brilliant our tour guide Sean was so knowledgeable and friendly
A very well done tour. Perfect amount of information, both from the guide and from the various placards and photos located at the site both inside and out. We put this museum on our list to see the workhouse and expected nothing more. The guided tour provided so much more to our experience. And the AG museum had interesting local history which for us was a total bonus
Excellent place to view agricultural artifacts from times gone by and learn about the conditions of workhouses of the 19th and early 20th century. They are doing great work restoring the workhouse within the grounds of what most knew only as the farming co-op for generations. Enda is an excellent guide, he is very informative and personable. Heart breaking to hear of the conditions whole families endured in these times and to visit the mass grave of untold thousands of poor souls.
A very interesting place with an interesting history. Only cash was accepted.

Located just off main Street Portlaoise, with lots going on in the building, this is a really lovely designed and well maintained building. There is something for everyone here. I have been going to this arts centre for years with my son and to get a bite to eat in Cafe Latte and to watch a movie in the theater, attend event's and to use the computer provided here for internet use and check out the great art exhibitions which take place throughout the year with new ones launching every month or two. Dunamaise Arts Centre is my favourite building in the Town of Portlaoise. Well worth a visit, and make sure to view all the areas which have different schedules for events all throughout the year.
Hey guys! Just came back from a free event. It was a lego art gallery. The lego art is OK. But what was waiting for us at the entrance, that was crazy! I attach a photo hope will appear. I am disturbed seeing these crazy costumes also, not only the kids. I saw them as we entered the place and I told my kids to turn away. Of course they looked at them and were very scared. We run upstairs to see the lego gallery. It was nice. We decided to live because we didn't feel comfortable to stay. There was a picture gallery also. Me and my kids said that even those faces on the pictures were scary. Right now we are reading the Bible what God is telling us about the beasts in the book of Revalation. As we see these today we see how people are far from God. The God of the Bible. We need to pray for the people to find Christ in their life. If you live with the Holy Spirit you don't have peace when you see all these craziness.
Loved it great place for a gig!
Nice entertainment setting, perfect for shows.
It is a beautiful space and the staff are very friendly. I have been here for different kinds of events and they all have been so enjoyable. It is obvious that a lot of work and love goes into the venue. My most recent visit was for Culture Night 2024 where we had the absolute pleasure of being soulfully nourished by Tibetian Monks from Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. In part the venue was way too small for the might of the dungchen and that sound vibrates at a level that some people might not be open to, however the whole experience was perfect nonetheless. My sister in law and I came away feeling all sorts of zen. I had the BEST sleep. Míle buíochas agus moladh dóibh ✌️💚🌞 Updated review *** I am a participant in the 12 exhibition and wanted to come on to thank Dunamaise for an absolutly epic launch night last night. Everything about the experience was amazing from start to finish. It is an honour to have my chair and portrait showcased in the venue and it was even more honourable to be a guest speaker at last night's launch. Speaking in the auditorium was nerve wrecking yet an amazing opportunity. I felt held and supported and thanks to Michelle for her encouragement and impressive direction. I'm made up for Dave and Ciara that the night was a shining success, they both deserve it and Dunamaise have been absolutely brilliant throughout the whole process thus far. Sending you all much love and light 💚🌞
We went to see the Pat Shortt show and were very disappointed with the amount of swearing, he used the 'f' word at least 5 times in every sentence. No need for that. A lot of his material was re-hashed, used before. The venue was excellent, very comfortable seating and friendly staff.
Attended a charity art auction in Feb 17 and the venue was so well suited to this.
This is a cozy little hub.. The theatre seating is beautifully elevated so the stage is visible all the way to the back of the auditorium. The staff are lovely. Cute bar upstairs. You can order drinks in advance of show breaks. Parking lot right beside the theatre. Have a lovely time there

I visited here today. A couple of reviews mentioned that the owner was rude. Well I can genuinely say that the man who dealt with me today was nothing but an absolute gentleman who I had a lovely conversation with and who went out of his way to help me. He also gave me a good deal on the items I wanted and kept them for me until I finished my business in the town. I would not hesitate to either recommend or return in the future.
Some interesting things on sale but the owner is very rude. Constantly glaring like you're about to rob the place. Also quite overpriced for what he's selling. Not recommended, there's definitely better antique shops in the area.
Great choice, very knowledgeable and friendly patrons. Well worth a visit. Even worth a detour.
Awful service and delivery posted china to England badly wrapped and smashed up and still no refund after 5 months.
My encounter with the owner was one of the worst experience...unfriendly unhelpful and rude... will not be doing any business here again..
Well worth a visit , customer friendly with excellent quality products
it's a nice shop, but the man who runs it or the people who run it are impatient with young people.
Great shop. Good assistance.

Brilliant win for Portarlington, 3 in a row...lads really enjoyed their first final, congrats to all, think Finn in the bright yellow might have led the pitch invasion at the end.
Great game between our village & Laois County Champions here 🏑 #GaelicGames #Hurling #Camogie 🇮🇪🏐⚾ Good facilities 🏟️
I attended the under 20 football final kerry v Tyrone, the staff on the front gate were excellent we had a blue badge for Disability passenger on board all Disability spaces / car park spaces near the enterence gate were full so we ended up parking all the way up near the bus parking area . My young son is on oxygen concentrator and has poor mobility so the first gate where we were parked was for Players and Staff only but under the circumstances that we were parked so far away I approached the Steward on the gate Asked if we could use this gate to gain entrance explained our circumstances and was refused point blank shouting at us this is for players only I can't scan tickets here , I asked could you just let my Son in and I would walk down to the other gate to scan our tickets and was told to "move along " I emailed Laois County board and get a Condescending email in return. Surely to god some common sense can be used on the grounds to accommodate people with Disabilities, but yet again it's one rule for all with no consideration given that people need help in Stadiums our own local stadium Fitzgerald park in killarney go way beyond to accommodate all supporters they even have a lift for wheelchair users and separate Disability parking area , shame laois county board doesn't take a leaf out of of other parks and adjust their policies. Toilets are excellent and so clean and chairs are very clean also so 3 stars for the excellent job there .
Great seating..lovely pitch. Lots of parking with 15 mins in industrial parks.
One of the best GAA grounds in Leinster. Great atmosphere on a big match day. Good views of the pitch.
Dreadfull they won't accept cash as payment at the gates. What's even more ridiculous is they won't accept card as payment for match programme. Just shows the state of the gaa as a whole.
€15 entry and luke warm tae! The boom is back in Portlaoise. Got two stars because of the beautiful view.
Great parking and nice little shop there too.

If you are into antiques and curious bits and pieces, this is certainly worth a visit ,You will find all sorts , from old building materials/panelling etc ,to lavish antiques ( perhaps not if you are an animal lover as a lot of old stuffed creatures to be found also) … There’s a lovely Cafe hidden in this massive warehouse… and extremely helpful and pleasant staff
Delicious food and amazing vibes. I ordered a chicken burger with homemade chips. The service was excellent, and I would definitely come again.
A treat for the eyes! Beautifully laid out, lots of thought and consideration put into the collection of antiques. Very nice coffee shop on site with fresh food and attentive staff.
Absolute gem of a place. The antique store is like a museum with one of a kind finds. I couldn’t believe there was a cafe tucked away. The food was gorgeous and the service was really nice. I would suggest having more servers since it is pretty busy.
I didn’t experience or taste anything special in this restaurant. The coffee was very bad, the atmosphere was very dark and stuffy, and the service was very slow, so I highly doubt that I will come back again.”
a delight to wander around and admire the antiques. you know you are getting old when you can remember a lot of them from your own childhood! the Restaurant is called Get Stuffed and had the best goats cheese salad i ever had! staff fab too.
Give yourself a few hours for a browse. Amazing. Not cheap but I'm sure there are bargains to be had... restaurant looked lovely but didn't have time to sample menu.
Beautiful place. You won't leave for at least three hours. Nice cafe on site.
