The city centre and town square was really lively and vibrant. Plants were nice and well maintained.
Very beautiful main square, surrounded by historic colonial buildings and churches. It’s a lively spot where locals and visitors gather, with gardens, fountains, and a relaxed atmosphere. A perfect starting point to explore the city and enjoy the heart of Cajamarca.
Everything was good, the weather was sometimes hot, rain and little cold.
Lot's of vegetation and places to sit. There is a cathedral and a few restaurants nearby that are worth visiting and you can walk up the hill towards a church to view the whole city bu that's about all in Cajamarca.
Beautiful and well kept. One negative is that there are far to many benders trying to sell you something.
Beautiful set for the Christmas and New Year with colorful figures and constructions for kids. Park is clean and quite few options to find a shade and chill with friends and family. In the night it is lift up and holiday sculptures are creating warm atmosphere. The fountain is a central blue light with the cathedral on one side and church in the other. Clean and nice.
A wonderful place to go. The history of this place is very evident in the hundreds of years old architecture of the Spanish Colonial era. Sadly there are no pure Incans around to tell the story of Cajamarca as they were all slaughtered.
It's a good place to take time off and to take cute pictures.

Plundered tombs line a cliff of volcanic rock at this necropolis, a unique archaeological site.
Slide 1 of 8
A quick but interesting visit! The Ventanillas de Otuzco are ancient funerary niches carved into volcanic rock, giving you a glimpse into the burial traditions of pre-Inca cultures. The site is small and doesn’t require much time — you can see everything in about 15–20 minutes. Entrance is very affordable (S/ 5 per adult). Worth a short stop if you’re in Cajamarca!
Very interesting place. But sadly the people working here were very rude. When I arrived I wanted to ask where to park my motorcycle. As soon as I pulled up they started screaming at me, it was honestly impressive how quickly they started shouting. I took the hint and drove off to find parking on my own. Well back after parking they continued being rude. The ruins themselves are cool, but information is very limited. Just basic facts are stated, like altitude abound sea level and dimensions of the niches. Not a lot of history about the site itself. Maybe the rudeness coloured my entire visit, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit this place again. In my travels from Unites States to Argentina on said bike, I’ve never encountered such treatment before. In any of the 12 countries so far.
This place is ancient. It was used as a burial ground 300 years before Christianity was a thing. Totally worth the visit.
An impressive historical site. Entry fee of about S./5 per person. It's a short climb upwards and you can see the large mausoleum.
Certainly not the most important site in the country, but it's so easy and cheap to visit that I would personally recommend it. Just take a collectivo from the city center (the ride takes about 20 min) - it will drop you off literally at the entrance to the site. There you will not need more than one hour. On the way back the collectivos also run very frequently. So in 1,5-2 hours you will be back at the city center.
Not a large site, but given its proximity to Cajamarca, worth the trip out. I recommend going by combi bus which can easily be found at the Plazuela Bolognesi heading for Otuzco. Cost is 1-2 soles and takes about 1/2 hour. Beautiful area and an interesting bit of history. Most tour companies come in the afternoon, so a morning arrival will give you better views with less crowds.
Great nature escape from the city. You can get the colectivo for 2pen pp and the entrance is 5pen normal or 2pen for students. Get the colectivo around the main market/plaza del armas, or infront of the mega plaza.
Go on your own without a tour if you can. They march you through unscheduled stops to flower nurseries, cow farms, etc. Its a 15 minute visit and not worth the half day tour.

Beautiful place, a lovely Capilla in place beautiful building. The calling of cows by name to come and eat! Lovely seeight at the "mirador" in place. You can buy ammenities all type of cheese, wine, manjarblanco and oths
The animals all need better treatment. All around, everything is green and the animals stand in cramped stalls without run or are tied to short ropes and displayed for the visitors. So were two calves at the entrance, which were thus at the mercy of all the visitors. The "show", where the cows supposedly listen to their name and come in, is a farce. A wanna be cowboy, who knows the names by heart, swings his whip with some kind of explosive in it. It sounds like a gunshot every time. A lot of kids were crying and scared and we adults didn't like it either. The cows just have their hierarchy and know who gets to go in and when. That's all there is to it. This is not an original farm like it's supposed to be. It's all just a show to make money. Save yours.
Nice place,interesting
The hacienda is large and beautiful, you can buy cheeses, delicacies, cookies, etc, the most representative of Cajamarca. In addition, you can see the cattle and trained cows who come to the call by name.
They say it belonged to some 49 partners or something, and it costs circa 20000 PEN (6500usd)to rent this whe place for a wedding party etc. Food not invluded, only accomodation.
It was a really fun place, you have alot of places to visit and cows are called by their own name.

Atahualpa, the last Inca emperor, was imprisoned in this compact stone building.
Slide 1 of 8
It's a small stone building where you can see lots of history. In it you can see the line where the Atahualpa was supposed to fill the room to gold, but he got executed anyway.
Historic site and the only preserved Inca building in Cajamarca. This is where Atahualpa, the last Inca, offered to fill the room with gold and silver in exchange for his freedom after being captured by the Spaniards. A small but very important place that tells a key part of Peru’s history.
Fascinating insights into the conquest of Peru. Brought to life by some fascinating archaeology.
Very interesting and humbling to visit this place. Cheap entrance fee. Be sure to bring your student ID if you are a university student, you get a discount.
Not a great deal to look at but a place of great historical importance. You really have to visit it if in the area.
The "Cuarto del Rescate," or Ransom Room, has interesting historical significance and is neatly nestled between the newer buildings of Cajamarca. There is some signage and adequate preservation effort inside, but they could definitely benefit from adding a sign that gives some clearer historical context (there is not even one in Spanish right now, let alone English). Otherwise, for such a low entrance fee that also permits entrance into a few other sites in the surrounding blocks, the Ransom Room is definitely worth checking out for 5-10 minutes.
Guides are only in Spanish, pretty knowledgeable. Make sure you ask about the unofficial history too. Official one was written by Spanish.
Small but important in history. The Inca Atahualpa was captured and put here.

The church is beautiful and the admission here includes the museum next to the church, the museum across the street, and the Ransom Room. I've been here three times and this is one of my favorite sites in Cajamarca.
This church was very beautiful and quaint, with symbols of custard apples galore.
Built between 1627 and 1774 it is a beautiful baroque church with a gorgeous painted dome and elaborately carved pulpit Worth going to as ticket also includes the Ransom Room and is Cajamarca's best hcurch
Amazing church, just part of the tour they offer for 5 or 2 soles (students)

This is a must see when in Cajamarca. Make sure to buy the tourist ticket, which gets you into the museums, the Belen Church and the Ramson Room. The museums are small but impressive and are housed in lovely old buildings. Note: there are no English translations.
Beautiful colonial complex from the 18th century, with impressive baroque architecture carved in volcanic stone. It includes the Church of Belén, the former Men’s and Women’s Hospitals, and today houses interesting museums about Cajamarca’s history and culture. A very well-preserved site that combines art, religion, and history — definitely worth a visit.

(Translated by Google) The first impression you will surely have when visiting the complex is that they appear to be ostentatious churches. In reality, they were hospitals with quite sophisticated chapels and it should be noted that the Church of Bethlehem was never completely finished, and it has a very impressive baroque façade, which is the one that attracts the most attention. Currently, the "San Ramón" School and the "Santa Teresita" Kindergarten and the former "Belén" Women's School operate in this Church. It is said that, during the Chilean invasion of the city of Cajamarca, the soldiers tried to enter this church to loot it, at that same moment an earthquake occurred. That earthquake caused the Chileans to flee, saving the religious relics there. Off the beaten path location to visit. Been wanting to experience Peru’s lake tititaca for the similar boats and man made islands, so I was excited to see this nearby Cajamarca. Place itself is located in a remote area, access on dirt roads like most of country destinations. When I arrived by taxi not in a tour the lagoon seemed desolate and quiet. But I was able to arrange a quick boat ride for 5 soles. Which just consisted of a rope & pull system to the center of the lagoon. The man made boat from straw was interesting to ride. It was quite windy so I was happy to return to dock after a short pull. Didn’t get to venture to other side of lagoon or have lunch. Though it was a nice, mysterious, serene place.
Beautiful lagoon with nice scenery, but there isn’t much to do besides a short boat tour. Peaceful spot, good for a quick visit if you’re nearby.
Just started to get visitors/ tourists thus there not much to offer besides the view. Will recommend to pack a lunch.,food offer is scarce and downright awful.

A museum within a residence! Very near the Plaza Mayor, get a tour with the very knowledgeable and pleasant guide, Andrea, and if you're lucky ,get to meet Sr Nicolas Puga and his charming wife, as we did. Call ahead to reserve a time.
My second visit here and just as interesting as the first. The young woman guide spoke very clear Spanish. We also were fortunate to have a long chat with Senor Puga and his wife. This site really is a gem in Cajamarca.
absolutely incredible collection. Nicolas was an amazing host, answering our every question and even played us a song or two on his guitar before we left. I will never forget about this collection and the beautiful afternoon I shared here. Could not recommend enough. Thank you both for sharing.
Nicolas gave us a very intimate viewing of his collection, which includes well-preserved Incan and pre-Incan textiles, ceramics, and metal work, as well as some European and Asian antiques. His collection is extensive, and as a lover of history, I was in awe. My friend, who isn't as into history, also had a great time and was very interested in the whole museum. It was one of our highlights of Northern Peru. He even sat us down down in his family heirloom room and serenaded us with his guitar. Make sure you contact Nicholas in advance to set up a time to visit. Thank you for everything, Nicolas!
Extraordinary private collection of museum quality originals from pre-Spanish thru Colonial Spanish. Not to be missed. Telephone.
A remarkable private collection of objects from diverse eras of peruvian history with some really unique pieces that I never thought I would see, and the great host as our guide, we hope the peruvian government support his efforts of conservation of this invaluable pieces.
Me and my dad were blown away at how many rare and incredible artifacts Nicolas has in his museum. It was the best museum we’ve been to in Peru so far and it was very nice to get to know Nicolas and Maureen and be welcomed into their home
Very interesting place; an incredible private collection of family heirlooms and colonial era antiques. And the owner is on site to show and explain the collection. While it it full of interesting stuff, there is little info to read on the items.
