Wonderful tour guides. Great experience. Night hike was the best! Must try the jungle bacon.
We booked the pink dolphin expedition, a tour of 5Dand 4N to the Yasuni national park. The first day we spent 9h to reach Nuevo Rocafuerte a long meditating trip going down the Coca river. We spent 2N in the lagoon Jatuncocha close to the Peruvian border. There we camped, had a tent on an elevated wooden platform with a roof on the top. In the night we went out with the canoe to spot Caimans and fishes. The water level was so low that fishes were jumping into the canoe. Once a big caiman bumped into our canoe by accident from below, fortunately the canoe was big enough. During the day we saw many pink dolphins and different kind of birds, some of which are macaws, parrots, king fishers... It was challenging not to walk at all, but rather to sit for longer time. We went twice for fishing. It was delicious to eat the fresh caught fishes. On the 3nd we went to a place on the Cocaya river. It was about 3h drive by canoe. There we could fed a semi domesticated dolphin. The locals have their own techniques to call the dolphins. The following night was spent in a cabin in the middle of the forest. From the agency they informed us the first day that the guide will organize more activities for us but instead our guide told us that there is not much wild life to spot in this part of the jungle. Since we insisted we went on a twenty minutes walk in the night and saw some insects and a Coral snake. Before dinner we went to look for some native leaves to cook fish (Maito de Tikapia). The next day we went back the Coca river and it took 7h, arrived at the Pilche lodge. The 5th day we went to a clay leak to see parrots gathering to eat clay and then to a canopy tower to see monkeys and birds. We were supposed to encounter the community, but they were only displaying some handcrafts. We didn't learn anything about the community and regret it. Eventually we drove back for 3h in the canoe to Coca. We had lunch on a sand bank. The agency was helping to organize the trip. I had questions about how to reach Coca by night bus from Quitumbe. We took a night bus at 10 pm from Quito and arrived at 4:30 am in Coca. The tour started at 8 am. Patricio from the agency always answered with patience all my questions. We paid 80% of the price through an international bank transfer. It took us a while to decide to do this tour. We were wishing to see an untouched part of the Amazonia. We were hesitant due to the price, around 850$ per person. In addition to that we had to pay 20$ per head in the dolphin place. The team was made of three persons. Miguel was at the same time canoe driver and cook. He had a hard job doing both jobs at the same time and was always working. He was always in a good mood and made many jokes in spanish. Even if he had so different food habits than us, he made an effort to cook more vegetables (less carbs and meat). Even though we have eaten enough meat and fish for the rest of the year. He was often asking us about improvements. Fabiano was assisting Miguel. He was polite and shy. He could have been more proactive to support Miguel. Our guide, Mauro, spoke a good English and has a broad knowledge about fauna, flora and the community life. Most of the time Mauro was passive while we were traveling on the canoe. He was always friendly, answering our multiple questions and professional at spoting animals. We only regret that he could have been more proactive while our cook was preparing food, to organise a small walk or telling more about nature. We wish that he could have been a bit more organized with providing us information and little more activities. The last two days of the trip we could feel that organization was missing from our guide. At the end we were debating with my girlfriend if we should give a tip. They did a fair job (Miguel job was impressive). We regret to not know how much they are paid by the agency. For us it was a really expensive tour and did not completely match our expectations. It can also be our fault by not informing us enough.
Excellent guide and very pleasant tour. Not really reliable when it comes to time schedule and transparency about the size of the group. To avoid with children !
We were requested to be ready for a 5am start for a day tour. Our guide picked us up at 5am but there was no sign of the captain at the port. Eventually our guide found him and after getting the boat ready and going to the market for the fish for lunch we set off at 5.50am. We paid $300 for this trip and expected excellent service. We saw the parrots at the clay lick but in moments of being there, most flew away. Had we been earlier we would have seen them for longer. The planning and breakfast of oreo biscuits and drink were not at all satisfactory and very disappointing to what could so easily been a magnificent trip.
Overcharged. When I noticed the lower price on their flyer, the owner said those are local prices, you pay more. I asked some Argentinian tourists that was on the excursion with me what they paid & they paid what was on their flyer. I’ve lived & traveled to over 50 countries, and the day-trip only excursion wasn’t worth it.
They organised a 3 day tour with an english speaking guide within my budget constraints. Tour was excellent. Guide and Chef Excellent. All round class!!
Overpriced and you don’t see much at all and it’s not in the Amazon
Great company - would highly recommend.

We did Sumaco/Yasuni/Limoncocha and also Cotopaxi/Otavalo tour with Henry and we had absolutely amazing time all thanks to Henry. All the positive reviews written about him are true. He is an honest man with deep love and passion for the Amazon jungle and his people. He works hard to preserve nature, to show people how valuable Amazon rainforest is and to give back to his people. We have a 6 year old daughter and he had abundant patience with her. We never felt rushed, he took his time to show all the camouflaged insects, birds, plants. He went on a night walk with us, 4 hour jungle hike, climbed the bird watch tower, waited with us for hours to see the parrots and macaws, took time to help our daughter catch a piranha, made the cutest headband weaved with leaves for her, answered every question that we had with vast knowledge he has from his upbringing in the jungle. The lodges he chose were comfortable with the kindest people. Food cooked with care, clean sheets and room every time. Please do not skip Limoncocha river… one of the most beautiful place we ever saw at night with the entire water surface lighting up as if a thousand stars have fallen to the water. We saw caiman, caught and ate piranhas, tarantula, 3 kinds of monkeys all over the place, all sorts of birds including Toucan and Hoatzin which were impressive. Cotopaxi was also amazing- we had 3 hour horse ride which was absolutely beautiful with the biggest rainbow we ever saw, and he climbed Cotopaxi with us, encouraging our kid every step of the way. We have been to many countries and did many tours but we were truly impressed with Henry. He is outstanding guy who truly is an Amazon jungle expert as he grew up in it, and is authentic and passionate, honest and patient and connected with his people and give his whole heart. I don’t know what else you can ask from a guide. We were truly lucky to have him for our trip. (The guy with short hair without glasses is Henry in our pics)
An unforgettable 4D/3N experience in two national parks: Limoncocha and Yasuní! If you’re looking for the best value Amazon rainforest tour with an incredibly knowledgeable guide, Henry Eco Tours is the way to go! We took part in a variety of tours and encountered an astonishing range of wildlife, including countless insects (with thousands of fireflies being a breathtaking highlight), amphibians, reptiles, mammals, fish, and many other species. The tour was highly flexible and adapted to our preferences. What stood out the most was the strong commitment to sustainability: Henry’s tours not only support local communities through tourism but also educate visitors about the region’s environmental challenges, particularly those posed by the petroleum industry. All this, while ensuring the main focus remains on the breathtaking beauty of the rainforest. Thank you Henry and the Amazon community!
We highly recommend Henry Eco Tours!!! My partner and I went on a tour with Henry in March 2023 and had an absolutely incredible time! We were able to visit places off the beaten path of the larger tour groups, and we felt completely safe and comfortable the entire time. Henry’s extensive knowledge of the jungle is so impressive! He was excited to teach us about all of the jungle’s plants and animals, and we were so excited to learn. Besides his incredible knowledge, Henry is also a wonderful, kind person. We had so much fun adventuring around with him sharing many meals, stories, and laughs. We also really appreciated how much he takes into account the impacts tourism has on the communities that live in the jungle, and how he makes sure the money goes directly back into those communities. Henry arranged everything, so we just got to sit back in awe. He even went out of his way to arrange for transportation, lodging, and trusted guides for us in Quilotoa and Cotopaxi after we left the jungle. We can’t wait until we’re able to go back and do another tour with Henry Eco Tours!!! Thank you for everything!!
You want to learn about the jungle and get to know what ecotourism is all about? Then go with Henry! He grew up in the jungle and knows everything you want to know. The best thing is that your money goes directly to the local people Henry pays. No middle man or foreign agency involved. This is an important way for locals to earn money and at the same time preserve the rainforest. I highly recommend Henry. We did a 3 days tour. 2 in limoncocha and one in Yasuni.
I had a wonderful birding experience booking with Henry reaching out the night before looking for a local guide he knows the area and the birds coordinating contacts for at the last minute a boat at one of the most bird diverse areas of Ecuador almost 80 species in 4 hours Great English great eye for spotting very great day birding thanks again Henry
Henry organized the perfect 10 days tour into the remote jungle of the Waorani tribe. He works only with local people and is very passionate about the jungle and the people there. Our crew existed of a Waorani Canue driver, a Waorani chef, a Waorani helper, a quechua Guide and Henry. Henry speaks perfect English. We learned so much about the Waorani tribe, plants abd animals. Some nights we camped in the jungle and some we stayed in Bameno with the Waorani. Fresh and very delicous food was cooked 3 times a day. Henry always made sure that we feel comfortable. Once he build an amazing shower in the jungle for us. And absoluetly amazing and unforgetable experience. I want to go back some time soon as I absoluetly fall in love with the Amazonas.
Henry showed my family with five children the jungle and shared his development as a child of the jungle into a guide for Western tourists. Very impressive. Seeing jungle-live through his eyes was amazing. His stories have made an indelible impression. Henry is patient and knowledgeable. His jungle tour was the highlight of our trip through beautiful Ecuador.
Words fail me when it comes to describing Henry and exploring his beloved Amazon together. Henry will soon become one of the most highly sought guides in all of South America. He's already most definitely one of the most knowledgable! From a Quichua tribe deep in the Ecuadorian Amazon, Henry knows the sound of every bird, frog, monkey ... and when he calls to them, they answer. Beyond the sheer delight of being led through this wild landscape by such a well-studied and engaged expert, I was personally enriched by spending time with such a kind, generous, and compassionate human being. Henry works in eco tourism for the benefit of ALL. His dreams are big and beautiful, and he has the integrity and drive to sustain them. He believes that through tourism we can together improve the world. Tourism provides financial resources to local families who would otherwise have to cut down trees on their sacred land to afford to send their children to school and to provide basic necessities. For the world that means less oxygen and less biodiversity. Henry works with local Quichua communities who invite tourists who want to experience the Amazon in a transformative, up-close way to stay in their cabañas. This way local families receive support as they drive your boat, cook your food, clean your accommodations, and in large the whole community as well as the traveler greatly benefit. This symbiosis preserves the Amazon for future generations as conservation knowledge and practical sustenance for local families simultaneously spread. Traveling with Henry is akin to having a friend take you to all the hidden, magical places and share ancestral secrets and stories as you spot countless species of wildlife. The QUALITY of experience you will have with Henry and the comfort and security you will feel with him is unmatched. (Also worth noting is that Henry is punctual, responsible with deposits, and wizzes through all the detailed planning that goes into Amazon expeditions big and small. His attention to detail and utilization of every opportunty to provide an enhanced experience is remarkable.)
