(Translated by Google) We traveled to the lands of Sinsacate – a name that in the Sanaviron language means “population of the Chin chief” – which were part of the Jesuit Estancia of Jesús María since 1650. The Jesuit fathers built a small building, an adjoining chapel and a flour mill, then sold the property to Don Juan Jacinto de Figueroa, who built a house and a barracks, planted an orchard of fruit trees and continued with the post service: he had horses, mules, oxen and carts in abundance. Located on the Camino Real al Alto Perú, Sinsacate thus became a center of commerce and communications whose relevance grew from the creation of the regular postal service in the mid-18th century, becoming the most important post in the territory of Córdoba. The patriotic troops passed through it on their march towards Upper Peru and General José de San Martín when he had to take charge of the Northern Army, as well as some central figures in Argentine history: the Reinafé brothers and the generals Manuel Belgrano and Juan Lavalle, among others. The decline of Sinsacate began with the civil war led by two well-known opponents: the federal Facundo Quiroga and the unitary José María Paz, a situation that seriously affected traffic on the Camino Real. A few kilometers from there, in the area of Barranca Yaco, Quiroga was ambushed and murdered on February 16, 1835, his remains being laid to rest in the Posta chapel. The complex is built with stone walls set in adobe, brick floors and a roof made of carob wood, cane and tiles. Formed by a long series of rooms with galleries supported by pillars, it ends at its northern end in the historic chapel with a single nave, with a deep sheltered arch and belfry with three bells; Above its access door you can see a small coral window. The monument was restored by the architect Mario Buschiazzo in 1946, and is currently the headquarters of the Sinsacate Post Museum, which houses rural elements – gaucho and farm objects – typical of the time.

(Translated by Google) A historic place, well maintained. We went on 5/1/25 (long weekend with tourist weekend) and it was CLOSED, which, even though it is Labor Day, since it is a long weekend for tourist purposes, it seems to me that it should be open and close any other day. We had to return the next day. It is worth taking the Camino Real route, you learn a lot about our history and geography.
