Our family had such a wonderful time together! We picked out a toy design, crafted it, and then painted it – the whole process was incredibly engaging and fun. The atmosphere was cozy, with cookies, sweets, coffee, and tea available to enjoy. Painting the soldiers felt like the perfect stress relief. While our youngest, who’s 5, got a bit restless, the rest of us were thoroughly entertained and left feeling delighted. A truly memorable experience for all of us!
Great experience! My 7 year old son insisted we go here, and it did not disappoint. He was able to watch them cast and he then painted his dragon, very exciting stuff for him! Kids will definitely love this place. Plus they have beautiful chess sets for sale and cast your own kits as well. Also fairies, soldiers etc.
Had a great time in the Prince August factory last week. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved seeing all the models (both painted and unpainted). A very nice place and it is great that a business like this is based in a rural Gaeltacht. The drive there was beautiful too, through the West Cork countryside. Highly recommend
Absolutely amazing experience! we went during a storm to pass the time and it just flew by. The host was so nice and accommodating. They make the figurines in front of you and you can go ahead and start painting them almost right away. 10/10 would go again 😊
Bit of a trip down memory lane visiting the Prince August Toy Soldier Factory. Back in the 80s we used to visit upstairs in Eason's to buy molds and lead to cast our own miniatures. We had a serious production line going and made half Napoleon's Grand Army! The factory is located just outside Macroom and is well worth the visit. There is plenty of parking outside the shop. The lady who greeted us was very friendly. We had a good poke around the shop and saw the craft area where they run casting and painting workshops. They serve coffee and there is a public toilet available. At the back you can walk through the factory and see the area where they paint miniatures for sale. Well worth a visit, even if you were not a lead casting child of the 80s!!!
Great visit to the toy soldier factory. Had lots of fun went back to my childhood definitely worth a visit and we are looking forward to our next visit. Lady on duty extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
Fantastic morning spent casting and painting toy soldiers and fairies. Staff are super friendly and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Well worth a visit and if you’re lucky, you might get to see the staff making moulds. They have lots of kits to purchase so you can make your own chess sets, soldiers or fairies at home.
I'm just after casting my first miniatures from one of their molds, and I couldn't be happier! I never thought I'd manage a perfect cast on the first try, but their instructions and videos were a fantastic help. I couldn't help myself—I painted the little green guy up straight away! If you've ever thought about giving casting a go, I can't recommend their molds enough. Thanks a million for such a brilliant experience!

Lovely and charming little pottery, we bought some beautiful pieces there. Absolutely worth a visit!
Last year I was on a road trip through Ireland with a friend when I woke up to her pulling the car down the drive to this pottery store. For pulling off the road into a random pottery shop we were blown away by the kindness of the owner and the craft he has perfected. Highly recommend stopping in to get a few of these beautiful pieces!
Great little spot here with authentic hand made pottery. We were in search of a nice butter dish, and we found one, along with a few other beautiful pieces. We got to meet 1/2 of the artist duo, and he is a super nice guy who showed us the kiln and talked of the process. Beautiful pottery, good prices, and great people. We will definitely be back.
Great hidden shop with amazing pottery.
Great selection and beautiful work.

Cool small town. I like it
Fantastically preserved gate house and remnant of a tower and keep, but you cannot get to the castle tower and keep at all. It is surrounded by private property so you can only get to the gate. Pictures are all you get of the actual castle.
Free to visit. Very nice spot with cannons and gate. Short walk to River bridge to view river entrance to castle. Good stop if already on the way to other areas
It goes without saying that any opportunity to be educated about the history of another country is an awesome opportunity. My opportunity. If you have the chance as AA traveler coming through the area it is worth knowing seeing and enjoying the knowledge being offered
Fun quick stop right off the road. We just used the gate as a photo op. Didn't go in.
The ruins of the XII castle. For some period the castle belonged to the father of Pennsylvania founder. Burned in 1922. Dismantled in late 20's.
Local site. Lots of history in this town and area.
Castle entrance just off of the square with two relic cannons outside. Going through the gates will lead through through a walk in the park or towards Macroom Golf Course.

Amazing place for fresh air walk and contacting a wild nature. Lovely to feed the reindeers. Great area for family city break.
Farran woods is just beautiful. Lovely playground for kids. Lovely walkway for everyone. Plenty parking. Has a little coffee stop for people also. Think that is only for the summer season. Toilets on site. No rubbish bins so people bring their own rubbish home and the place is spotless. Car park is 5 euro, contactless payment only. Kids loved the deer and the ducks. Plenty picnic tables when we went but could do with a few more for the Summer time when it gets very busy. Lovely day out with kids. And bring a picnic.
Beautiful woods with multiple walks including by the River Lee and plenty of places to have a picnic. Nice wildlife enclosure for deer on the walk and also a good playground for small kids with toilets nearby. There is also a coffee van near the carport that serves cakes and othere little tidbits as well. On a lucky day you may see a lot of rowers on the river as there is a massive rowing club near the water and competitions take place at regular times of the year. There is plenty of parking so that's not an issue but it does bother me that it is €5 to enter the woods and also because a very large portion of the woods has been taken over by zip-wires, absailing and just the most astronomical number of trees covered in huge amounts of equipment and bridges and wires from tree to tree with older kids climbing from one to the other. Very commercialized and those kids can be very noisy.
Great playground, trails with markings is very helpful, easy to spot some deers on the way. Most area accessible by buggy as well. River bank is beautiful but on the day there were lot of bird droppings in the water so didn’t seem swimmable.
Great place for a day out the surroundings are beautiful. The trails vary from easy to hard which should suit everybody. I would recommend this park to anybody looking for a day out with the family or looking for a place to jog or walk a dog.
You need to pay 5€ for the parking , only coins. Nice wildlife park with loads of space for parking .can walk around the park, will be 3-5KM based on the route . Good for kids , can cool down your self.
Really nice park not too far from Cork city. It's nice that you can pay for entry with card (5 euro), but I don't see why there is an entry fee to begin with, since the park itself is not that large. Regardless, it's still very much worth visiting.
A nice wood walk close to cork city in between ballincollig and macroom. Beautiful and quiet place. 5€(coins only)entry fee for cars. Enough parking space. Good place for family as there is a childern's play area and a wildlife enclosure with deers. Children would definitely like this place. Different walk ways so you can choose the walk you like. One that goes close to the Lee river is a good choice. You can see the country sides on the bank of the river. It is quiet relaxing to enjoy the view in a beautiful evening😍..with your loved ones. There is an adventure activity area but that is closed in the light of covid 19 circumstances. The national Rowing Centre is with in the woods park. There are dining areas in the park and public restrooms too.So enjoy a nice and peaceful walk in the woods with your loved ones.. Be safe guys..always keep safe distance and don't forget your masks😜😄😄

This is a lovely quirky bar/ex hardware store in the center of Macroom. It attracts a young crowd, but not exclusively. Good selection of drinks. Friendly staff. Well worth a visit
Best pub in the world. Feels like home every time you step through the door. You will always have a good night there.
Lovely atmosphere. Had brilliant seissiún ceol here. Lots of tunes and songs played with great friends. What more could you ask for.
Unique place! the collection of objects makes it very special! the bar staff are great craic and it's cozy. Good music too
This is definitely Macroom's most traditional pub and probably Cork's most traditional pub, if you're in the area and have an interest in a great pub don't miss it.
Excellent bar, slow service, great atmosphere, nice pints.
Lovely local country pub, full of character.
One of the best pubs in the world.

Interesting to walk around but wouldn’t spend more than 30min there. The museum inside is worth a look. Talks about the female convicts who were kept in the fort before being taken to Australia.
Small historical fort. A shame that it's stuck right in the middle of the city. The entrance is pushed back from the road between a plumbing shop and a bar. Quick tour but it's free and you can take the time to read the plaques and get the history. Nice views of the city.
Free to enter, and a nice place to wander round, Information panels are dotted about the site, with a small museum with some information about the history of the Fort and its role in transporting convicted people to Australia. Staff were friendly & helpful.
Elizabeth Fort is an early 17th century star-shaped fortification. Built on a commanding site just outside the medieval walls, the fort overlooks the heart of Cork City. Elizabeth Fort has been in continued and varied use for over 400 years, including use as a military barracks, a convict depot for the transportation of women prisoners to Australia, a food depot during the Great Famine, a Royal Irish Constabulary station, and a Garda Station until 2013.
Rather quick visit, took maybe 30 minutes to walk. Right by St Fin Barres Cathedral which is a favorite of mine. Parking in front of fort is very limited. We showed up early and got a spot right out front. Sept 7, 2024
I had an absolutely fantastic experience at Elizabeth Fort, thanks to our incredible guide, Emilia! Her passion for Cork’s history brought the fort’s stories to life, from its 17th-century origins to its role in the city’s past. She was engaging, knowledgeable, and made the tour both fun and unforgettable. The views from the ramparts were a bonus, but Emilia’s storytelling stole the show. Highly recommend her tours to anyone visiting Cork—thank you, Emilia, for an amazing time!
Friendly staff and wonderful location! The view is incredible and the history of Elizabeth Fort as interesting as mortifying once you learn of its usage as a holding facility for women to be deported to Australia.
To get a good view of the city and realise how big it is get up on the walls of the castle 🏰 you can see 👀 for miles and on a nice day it passed a hour or two 😀. And it's free.

Macroom golf course really surprised me, it is both challenging and in unbelievable condition. Best greens I have played on in a long time!! Great value and very nice staff at golf shop and bar/restaurant. Absolute credit to the team managing the course and club!
Serves a lovely breakfast and nice dinner menu also kids menu lovely atmosphere brilliant views of golf course nice friendly staff and regular customers very friendly
Nice golf course but a little hilly and for certain seniors or elderly people you would need a buggy.
Lovely looking course and certainly worth a game. Notably, the challenge is to think about where to the hit the ball to access the greens. Good fun
Not all the food was amazing, but the chicken burger definitely was. Very large portions though. So yiu may consider sharing with a friend or family member.
Looks really nice course. Bit hilly but will come back soon to play it.
For the price you will not play a better course with more picturesque views and fantastic people/atmosphere. Cathal, Colette, Dave and Kieran are a credit to the club. Greens as good as you'll find.
First few holes very hilly but nice well maintained course

A beautiful example of rural Irish entrepreneurship. The store itself is a treasure trove of historical west cork village life. Its central location in the village, above the river adds to the ambiance of the entire place. Well worth a visit!
