Naggar Castle – A Fairytale Gem in the Heart of the Himalayas Nestled amidst the lush green valleys and snow-capped peaks of Manali, Naggar Castle is nothing short of magical. The moment you step inside, it feels like walking into a timeless tale — where history, nature, and art blend effortlessly. The wooden architecture, stone walls, and breathtaking views of the Beas Valley make it one of the most charming heritage spots in Himachal. But what makes Naggar Castle even more special is its connection to Bollywood’s iconic love story “Jab We Met.” 💫 The soulful song “Yeh Ishq Hai” featuring Shahid Kapoor (Aditya) and Kareena Kapoor (Geet) was filmed right here! Standing in the same courtyard where Geet danced with joy and Aditya watched her with that gentle smile truly brings the scene to life. You can almost feel the same warmth, laughter, and romance that made the movie unforgettable. Whether you’re a film lover, a history enthusiast, or simply someone seeking peace and beauty, Naggar Castle has something for everyone. Don’t miss the panoramic view from the balcony, the intricate wooden carvings, and the small café inside that offers tea with a view to remember. ✨ A must-visit place in Manali — where every corner tells a story, and every breeze hums the melody of “Yeh Ishq Hai"❤️✨❤️
If you live medieval vibes, this place can be in your list. Perfectly offers the medieval vibes. The castle is made of wood and now has been turned into hotel if you want luxury. The castle has an amazing view of the valley. But on weekends it might get crowded and noisy.
Naggar Castle is an absolute gem! 🏰✨ Located just a short drive from Manali, it’s a perfect blend of history, architecture, and breathtaking mountain views. The 15th-century wooden structure has been beautifully preserved and offers a peaceful atmosphere away from the crowds. You can walk around the castle, explore the museum inside, and enjoy a cup of chai while soaking in the stunning valley views from the balcony. The place has an old-world charm that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. I stayed nearby at @thelandsbynaggar, which made visiting the castle super convenient — highly recommended if you want a quiet and scenic getaway. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in or around Manali! 🌄
Very beautiful palace. They say on a good day you can see kullu and manali. However when I want it was under restoration, so most of rooms were shut. But they let me walked around. The parking is a little away, and it is at a price. The palace holds a very old temple as well. Ahead of the palace is a russian art museum which is a must go. Further, lot of cafe are also there incase you want to try some bakery items. If you are in manali, then this can be kept for a half day visit on your way back or during your rest days.
A Missed Opportunity to Showcase Heritage 🏯 I recently visited Naggar Castle, a historic site in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh. While the structure itself carries architectural beauty and old-world charm, the overall experience was disappointing. There is a serious lack of historical insight offered to visitors—just one information board at the entrance, with no detailed descriptions or curated displays inside. For an entry fee of ₹50 per person, one would reasonably expect more value in terms of context and storytelling. It’s unfortunate that Himachal Pradesh Tourism seems to be treating the site more as a resort and restaurant venue rather than preserving and presenting it as a cultural landmark. The history of the castle deserves to be highlighted, with proper restoration and interpretation to truly make it a meaningful tourist attraction. This place has potential—it just needs attention and respect towards its historical significance.
Must see! The architecture is very cool and the view is amazing. It was actually closed on the morning that I went, but the men at the reception were extremely kind and let me walk around without buying a ticket.
Unfortunately for me, the castle was closed for renovation. I could only see some parts of its exterior. In any case, there is hardly any maintenance. I feel it should be taken over by the ASI. Also, private building much bigger and grander than the palace near its vicinity must not be allowed. There is too much of unregulated commercialization around it. There is hardly any parking space.
The castle was officially closed for renovation but people were still allowed to go inside and click pictures. It was very quiet and photogenic places with lot of good frames to get pictures clicked.

Another Ancient Marvel of Nagar. You can find wooden and stone carvings in the temple. Excellent wood work can be seen on the wall of the room to the left of temple. Also the entrance gateway and the small shrine opposite to it are artistically made.
The Tripura Sundari Temple is a peaceful, lesser-known gem, dedicated to Goddess Tripura Sundari. Located amidst stunning mountain views, the temple’s traditional Himachali architecture and serene atmosphere make it a perfect spot for reflection and relaxation. Though small, it offers a quiet escape from Manali's tourist crowds and provides a genuine taste of the region’s spiritual heritage. A must-visit for those seeking tranquility and scenic beauty. This place just a few minutes away from naggar castle.
Tripurasundari Temple is a hidden gem from the 11th century, not widely known among tourists but absolutely worth visiting. The intricate wood carvings on this pagoda-style shrine are breathtaking and truly beyond words. The marble statue of the Goddess exudes a peaceful, serene smile, creating a calming atmosphere. Every evening, you can hear the melodious sound of Nagara horns and Himachali drums being played in devotion to the Goddess, adding to the temple’s divine ambiance. We were fortunate to stay nearby and felt the presence of this sacred place as our neighbor. A visit here is a must for those seeking beauty, history, and spiritual peace.
one of the most stunning temples in the region. its main temple and its roof is one of the most stunning wood structure i have ever seen. reminds me of the layered temple roof in bali. the courtyard has a beautiful wood canopy. beware of the monkeys, they didnt seem aggressive but did make barking faces when i got closer
I was so nostalgic, so nostalgic that I feel my visit to Nagar is incomplete as I spent very few minutes there and did not explore all the traditions around as there are many. This temple is a beautiful traditional temple near Roerich Museum. There were only two or three tourists present when I visited.
What a beautiful and divine place. Every year when I visit Naggar, this is a must visit place for me. The architecture of this mandir is different then other mountain mandir style and it is very creative. I did some live drawing of this place recently. If you’re an artist then you should spend some hours here and tell me your experience 😊
Situated close to Naggar castle. This temple is mystically beautiful. It was calming and relaxing to see the kids from school next door playing in the temple corridor. The structure is eye catching and intriguing with a touch of rustic layer and craftsmanship. One of the must visit places in Naggar.
The most amazing and beautiful temple in the city ...the carving and architecture are simply beyond amazing... you will fall in love with the details of the wood work..

Nicholas Roerich , original name Nikolai Konstantinovich Rorikh (1874 to 1947) was Russian painter , writer and philosopher. In his later age he came along with his wife Helena Roerich (1879 to 1955)to British India and settled in Naggar , in between Kullu and Manali which was in the then undivided Panjab State which is Himachal Pradesh nowadays. He build a small beautiful house there and spent rest of his life drawing oil paintings of the different cliffs of Himalaya. His younger son Svetoslav Nikolayvich Roerich was married with the famous Indian Actress Devika Rani . After the death of his wife his house is named Roerich Memorial where his paintings are displayed along with his car and other belongings.
The place is known as Nagar castle. The art gallery is in the memory and honour of Famous Russian artist, philosopher Nicholas Roerich and his wife Roerich who is also a Russian writer and Theosophist. Both were living in Manali and their living place is later converted to museum and art gallery where Different art of Nicholas Roerich was showcased. The place is 25km from Manali. To visit this place you have to book a taxi/ other vehicle. The place is above the mountain and the road is steeper, so a aerial view of Manali is visible from the above. Entry fee is minimal and you don't have to book in advance. Sometimes the place is closed due to specific reason by the state government tourism department, so before visiting this place better confirm whether the place is open / closed. Outside the art gallery some local handicraft shops are also present along with the Nicolas exhibition and souvenir.
The Nikolas Roerich Art Gallery 💐🙏😊😌 Visited Nikolas Roerich Art Gallery with my family — a truly wonderful experience! 👪 The place is calm, clean, and beautifully surrounded by nature. The gallery showcases the inspiring artworks of Nicholas Roerich, giving a deep sense of peace and connection with the Himalayas. 🌄🎨 A must-visit place in Himachal Pradesh for art and nature lovers. Highly recommended for a peaceful and memorable family visit!
Nicholas Roerich, a legendary Russian painter has about 7000+ such paintings. Some of them are displayed in this beautiful museum in Naggar village. It is managed by International Roerich Memorial Trust. It is divided into several parts like Urusvati (need to hike a bit to reach it), his house and museum. It is very near to Naggar Castle so don’t miss to visit it. Entry ticket of 50 INR + 20 INR (for photography) is required. You can also find old kullu dynasty remains here, roerich office, dining table and their belongings.
Very nice place to spend time. This place is the former home of Nicholas Roerich which also houses his works and paintings. There are also tributes to his works in the form of paintings similar to what he had done. Going to the museum is through a forest path full of cedars.
International Roerich Memorial Trust (IRMT) was founded in 1992-93 on the initiative of Svetoslav Roerich and his spouse Devika Rani with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of India, the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh to preserve and promote the heritage of the outstanding Russian family of the Roerichs and develop the holy Roerich Estate into a world-class museum, educational, scientific and cultural center. A must visit place.
A trust manages the affairs and upkeep of this, which is good but not good enough. There are two adjancent places- one where Roerich used to stay (which is situated lower) and the other which is an institute, office & lab. One has to buy a common ticket for both these places, which is a mere 50 rupees. One has to purchase an additional ticket of 30 rupees for photography. Shoes aren't allowed inside. Many parts of the property are kept out of bounds, one has to peep through the glass windows. Most of the paintings on display are the replicas.
Very beautiful and fantastic place Those who came here must see these gallery and museum
