Outstanding church at the centre of the picturesque small town of Winchelsea, with atmospheric ruins in the churchyard and magnificent stained glass windows. The windows date from between 1929 and 1933, and were designed by Scottish artist Douglas Strachan and gifted by Scottish barrister Robert Younger. They are themed with biblical scenes, war memorials and local imagery. Other notable features inside include the impressive stone tombs built into the walls, and the large organ. Construction of the original gothic church building began in 1288. However, the building was extensively damaged in a French raid in 1380, and its condition deteriorated over the next five centuries. By the early 1800s, the building was at risk of collapse, but was extensively restored in 1850. Today, it is beautifully maintained, and a credit to the town. There's unrestricted parking available on nearby roads for visitors to the church, and information books inside the church detailing its history and significant features. The Easter flower arrangements inside were lovely to see.
St Thomas church is in Winchealsea which is lovely place to walk around. It has gorgeous stained glass windows, grave stone of Spike Milligan in its grounds, nice places to sit down outside and building open to go in.
Wonderful church to look around, the stained glass windows are very beautiful. The pillars with old sea farmers graffiti on are good to amuse children of all ages. Also the graves of what looks like medieval knights or noble men are very well displayed! To finish off out side is Spike Milligan's grave!
This church has such immense history, this alone is impressive, but seeing the remnants of the church as you approach leaves one speechless when you enter the actual church. It is very large and most impressive. But for me, the fact that this is the final resting place of Spike Milligan, whose tombstone can be found just outside the church entrance, was simply a wonderful experience. Winchelsea is a beautiful place to visit, simply amazing.
Lovely peaceful church, full of history with amazing tombs. Also the grave of musician and comedian Spike Milligan.
Positioned fittingly in the centre of Winchelsea is the church dedicated to ‘St Thomas the Martyr’ – Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury.  A really peaceful historic church. Well worth a look around. There is a lot of history within the area. The architecture and interior are beautiful and a must for local history enthusiasts. The grounds are so peaceful and absolutely wonderful with all the Graves and flowers everywhere. Took me a while to walk around and absorb the beauty of it all.
Beautiful church definitely worth visiting!
Lovely very old historical church with Spike Milligans grave in the graveyard Big stained glass windows in memory of those whose lost their lives in the First World War.

A return visit to the New Inn, a wonderful welcome from the staff, very friendly and polite and very accommodating as we hadn't booked for Sunday lunch. We were seated very quickly, with the offer of drinks and time to peruse the varied choices of the menu. We chose a kid roast and a pie of the day. Ample portions and very hot. No long to wait either. Declined the deserts. However, from what we could see, they looked delicious. We both used toilet facilities, and these could do with modernisation and more of them. The layout of the restaurant was spacious and roomy, allowing privacy and comfort between tables. Would definitely recommend a visit, and enjoy the walk around the village and churchyard.
We came for a mother's day lunch, the service was really great! The menu had a very good selection! However, the plates were cold which made the food colder than preferred. Please please warm your plates to serve warm food. It's an easy fix to what could have been a really good meal! Other than that, really nice!
Four friends and a dog went for lunch on May Bank Holiday lunchtime. Pretty location. Excellent table service especially when one of the group had fish/nut allergy which was taken very seriously. Very well kept Harvey's Sussex Best amongst other ales available. Really good hot and tasty food. Very good portions. Lovely atmosphere.
Four of us dined here early this Friday evening. We hadn’t booked a table, but there was plenty of room. A number of other diners already seated. Nice cosy ambience in this traditional pub, and nice decor. Friendly staff, that took drinks and food order direct from our table. We all chose different meals- fish and chips, halloumi burger, pie of the day and Moroccan lamb stew. The pie looked amazing! Lamb stew delicious, and all other meals went down a treat. Clean plates all round! Full credit to the chef. Highly recommended. The young girl who served us was very pleasant, friendly, and seemed happy in her role. Would happily all return again.
Stayed a night here on a walking trip between Hastings and Rye. What a beautiful setting! Absolutely spot on for our needs. A friendly welcome & comfortable rooms. Great dinner with flexibility for our individual needs and a nicely cooked breakfast. A pleasant and helpful team. What more could we ask? Highly recommended.
Me and my husband have brought family and my dad a few times had saturday meals which have been amazing but today sunday we tried the roast dinners and wow they were so yummy. Every thing was fresh and cooked to perfection 5 star cauliflower cheese is tasty and really scrumptious. Service fabulous and really great staff will be back
Beautiful hotel and pub! The food — AMAZING. The staff were so nice to us during our visit. We were so hungry and it was an odd time like 2:15pm and we found this on google maps. The secret garden is gorgeous, lots of picnic tables and flowers. We ate indoors because it was very warm out. We shared: Camembert cheese starter to share served with garlic, rosemary and crusty bread —- ohhhhh so gooey and rich. Yummy. Jerk King Prawns - fantastic! Crispy soft shell Crab - just ok but the prawns were better. Great prices and I highly recommend you stop here!
We enjoyed our stay for 2 nights bed and breakfast. The staff were lovely and they looked after us very well.It was to celibrate us being together for 29yrs..The food was delicious and there was plenty for breakfast.Thankyou

A small but very interesting museum dedicated to Winchelsea, the smallest town in England. Staffed by volunteers who are residents of the town. They a very knowledgeable and extremely welcoming and helpful.
The town of Winchelsea is unique and a recommended visit when in East Sussex. The museum sheds light on the history of the town and is located in a historic building itself.
A wonderful little museum. Lots of interesting eclectic displays that triggered conversations. So fortunate to have volunteer Barry on hand to enhance our already great experience. Thank you Barry. I hope you and your colleagues know the difference you make.
Nice building, small though.
Small but lots of interesting things to look through and do. I would recommend anyone visiting the Rye or Hastings area to go. Showing a few local antiquities and details o the coastline movement over the past few hundred years.
Very easy to get to the core information. Be warned stone steps up to the museum room.
Interesting little museum of this historic little town.
Great little museum housed in an historic building

This pub is great, friendly, clean, and good choice of beers and spirits. They don't do food but we ordered Chinese and the staff even lent us cutlery to eat it with. We stayed next door in the caravan park and got better service in the pub. I liked it so much I'm back again this year.
Visited this venue and apparently there is no menu available to have a look at when judging prices being offered for products sold. The price was hiked up right in front of my face after the shot of Jack Daniel’s was poured up within the space of 5 seconds and this was done between 2 individuals. The usual level of trust of being exposed to one price is non existential in my opinion. I don’t know what Bar offers no menu or is this done to those who are not local residents of Winchelsea?
Proper Pub very friendly. No food but you can buy fish & chips next door and eat in Pub which we did.Great conservatory and seating outside in warmer weather.
Very Nice pub, very friendly staff and locals, Hope to come back shortly :-)
Fantastic place, very friendly people, dog are welcome and the land lady and her staff even give them treats, nothing has changed still a great place to enjoy
Great local pub with really friendly staff and punters. Good real ale too.
Nice pub to stop for a pint of two after a long dog walk. You get the traditional pub vibe without the look of it from the outside. Friendly staff. Nice beer selection. Dog friendly. Don't think they actually served food but there's a chip shop next door.
Nice pub, live music, No WiFi. Overall pleasant
