Amazing tour! Our tour guide Valerie was fantastic, even though on their website they only have one English speaking tour, Valerie quickly adapted to the various nationalities of the group, and even spoke a bit in Italian for the Italian family visiting. The mines themselves are very impressive and worth seeing!
IMO the most beautiful thing is the view from the city. I do not recommend to buy tickets and take the walk inside.
Tour in French was the only tour available though English is advertised on their website (only once at 12) without a very strong grasp of French the tour is a bit boring as the views in a dark cave are nice but not spectacular and most important to know, photography is not permitted inside the cave.
Great visit with Marie everyone on the team and staff are kind and welcoming. Highly reccomend if you’re in the region !
40km of the old mines. Exciting tour that will open eyes on the production of the rubber, paint and mushrooms. Yes yes, mushrooms. If your kids like Minecraft, they will enjoy it. Tons of true stories and legends that goes through the 90 years and beyond. The place is must visit during the very hot day to take an advantage of the 10-13 C stable degrees right inside the hill. The excursion will take around 1.5 hours. For a left handed person there is a special benefit :-) Go there to know, why :-)
Fun site! Since it’s quite a bit cooler in the mine, it’s a great getaway from peak heat of day. The whole tour takes about an hour. Unfortunately, the English version of the tour on the iPad is definitely not comparable to the French-speaking tour guide. The tour guide spoke a lot more than the English explanation.
Overrated. To much € for what you get. The mines are accually boring compared to the mines in Limburg The Netherlands, who are rich of history and the whole network under Maastricht. The WO II resistence used these network to help escape people. This tour is only in French and they treat people like children. You get a I-pad in your own language which is nice, however de guide explaination is to longwinded, repeats a lot. Half the price would be fair.
It is good place to know the history of the ochre mine. Our guide,Mathilde, was very informative. She explained humorously and educationally how important the ochre in this region. It definitely worths a visit.

This deserves 6* or 7* - amazing stay in a Spa Suite. Check-in staff was excellent, especially butler who showed us to room and around the facility - even on a 90F+ day he was impeccable. He showed us how everything worked in the suite and was very friendly, engaging and professional. Cipressa for lunch was excellent, highly recommend. If you're an early riser, you'll have the pool to yourself until midday - it was glorious. Everything at this resort was top notch. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend!
The villa, the restaurants, and the pool were beautiful. Each and every staff member was courteous, friendly, helpful and pleasant, even the gardeners. My favourite thing was being able to walk into the vineyards and taste the grapes. Incredible! Also, the views and location are amazing. Even hearing a rooster in the distance when we got up in the morning was special and added to the ambiance. We have stayed in many places on our 5 week trip through France, and this was the most expensive by far, yet still the best value! Thank you!
Our stay was fantastic. While many places in the world are beautiful few combine great service, great food, and lovely rooms. Everyone from the front end staff to the landscaping team and housekeeper were cheerful, pleasant and welcoming. And if the landscaping team is, you can only imagine that reception, the concierge team, and waiters were fantastic, and they are. The other things that really stood out to us was our room. It felt more like a luxury room in a mansion than a hotel room.
First the good: Beautiful property in stunning surroundings with perfect location for a biking trip allowing easy access to all the towns in luberon — the gardens are immaculately kept yet feel wild and serene, and the setting is undeniably five-star. The rooms are pleasant with lovely views, but nothing particularly memorable — solid four-star quality. The gym and spa are spacious and very nice. Unfortunately, the service brings the overall experience down sharply. We were surprised when the concierge told us the restaurant was “full” and suggested we dine using room service (seriously?), only for us to walk over and be seated immediately — the restaurant remained at least 30% empty all night. Service at lunch & dinner was inattentive and short-tempered, with errors never acknowledged. At the pool, there was no towel staff on hand — guests are left to set up their own loungers and fetch towels from a large, unsightly bin overflowing with used linens. Not what you’d expect at this level. It seems most of the staff needs training and is inexperienced - a surprising experience for a 5 star relais château branded hotel. A few bright spots included the bike shop team, the nice pool bar lady with the hat, and the front desk/porters — welcoming, helpful, and professional. A shame the rest of the service (mostly the dining staff .. but that’s a big part of the experience!) doesn’t live up to the property’s promise.
From arrival to departure, we truly had a five star experience at Coquillade. The reception upon arrival was warm & helpful, allowing an early check-in, and were able to provide an amazing room upgrade. The Valet team is worth a shoutout, they were always incredibly thoughtful and pro-active. The estate grounds are captivating with vineyard views, multiple pools, beautiful gardens, and more. The Spa is worth a specific call out, as it was top notch and exceeded expectations, while being included for no extra cost within our stay. (We enjoyed the various pools & tubs, sauna, steam rooms, + therapeutic showers.) The breakfast Buffett was also very nice and robust, with an extensive food spread. Again staff was attentive and accommodating of any needs. We wish we had more time to stay, however definitely plan to return someday.
The property itself is truly magnificent, with stunning views that are undeniably memorable—these are the reasons behind my 3-star rating. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience did not live up to expectations, particularly given the prestige associated with the hotel and its Michelin-starred dining. The service left much to be desired. Staff interactions were minimal at best; greetings were rare, and there was a noticeable lack of warmth or attentiveness throughout our stay. The dining experience was especially disappointing. The quality of the food at the main restaurant was well below what one would expect from an establishment of this caliber. Despite the Michelin accolades, the dishes were uninspired and of surprisingly poor quality. We did find an exceptional alternative at La Bastide de Perréal, where the cuisine was outstanding and the service staff—many of whom previously worked at La Coquillade—were courteous and professional. This gem of a winery is just 8 min away from La Coquillade. We shared our concerns with the hotel’s management, but the response felt perfunctory. Offering a bottle of wine after we had spent thousands of dollars did little to address the issues, and seemed more like an attempt to placate rather than genuinely improve the guest experience. On a positive note, the rooms are spacious and well-appointed. However, climate control was an issue. Despite the thermostat being set at 17°C, the room remained uncomfortably warm at night—even with mild outdoor temperatures. It’s difficult to imagine staying here during the peak of summer under these conditions.
What a stingy and slimy place when it comes to money. My wife and I showed up for our 3 days reservation, but due to a mistake in the last name, they couldn’t find it and kicked us out. Fair enough , that part is understandable. Later, we made a new booking. The next morning, I realized the original reservation had been made under the wrong last name after all. I called Coquillade to explain and see if we could find a solution. This is where their behavior became completely unacceptable for a hotel that claims to be five-star. They told me they had not received any money (the booking was through a third party) and therefore couldn’t do anything. They offered zero help and led me to believe the third party would be the one to resolve it. However, when I followed up with the third party, they told me they had contacted Coquillade and that Coquillade had explicitly refused any refund and insisted on charging the full amount. So not only did Coquillade mislead me when I was speaking directly with them, but they also went behind my back to make sure they got paid in full. That’s incredibly unprofessional and frankly classless behavior. If you want to be a five-star establishment, it takes more than fancy amenities. It takes integrity. Very disappointed.
We stayed at la coquillade as air bnb guests. As our Family live in Autignac, it is an ideal location. On one occasion there was just a curtain separating two bedrooms!! It is reasonably priced, but 'beyond basic'. The room we tried this time was dark, dreary and very uninviting! As you can imagine, we won't be booking there again.
