Reached by ferry, this small island has castle ruins & walking paths that wind through olive groves.

We went here as part of a tour group, we got the ferry, which you can get from several terminals around the lake to this island. It is a very small place that some amazing lovely and quaint buildings dotted across the island, well worth a visit.
In 10 minutes, you can take a boat and visit the Island. It is nice, you can shop, you can eat or enjoy an ice cream. You can do a guided tour as well. It is nice to visit the place.
Visited the island Maggiore today. Arrived by 10am on the Ferry. $7.50 euros round trip. Be sure to wear good shoes, once you leave the main paved streets of the fishing village it's all stone and dirt pathways that are steep. The views from the island were beautiful, unfortunately neither of the churches or buildings were open to view the fresco's inside. The castle gate was also locked up. I'm not sure if I was visiting too early in the day? I wasn't the only confused visitor either. The only buildings that were open were the restaurants and shops on the island. But I still enjoyed walking around the village and exploring the island trails. Lots of birds and wildlife.
Regular ferries to a beautifully deserted island. There are cafes, restaurants and outlets for gelato.
15 mins ferry from Tuoro Navaccia. Tickets 6 euros per person return. Perfect day trip on a sunny day. Population of the island is 35. Handful of beautiful restaurants, shops and a couple of amazing little churches. Walk the whole island within 30mins
Take the ferry from Castiglione del Lago to have a nice long trip across trasimeno lake
Great place to visit for a day. And explore the island and learn the history of it.
Nice little Island, nothing much to see but worth it for a nice boat trip.

(Translated by Google) Don't listen to the negative reviews, the place is perfect, the cleanliness is not bad, but certainly not as said by the other reviews. The staff is friendly and always available. The furnishings are very beautiful (the farmhouse dates back to the 1700s) and you certainly don't expect modern furnishings. The dishes are good and the restaurant is a nice and welcoming place. The spa is beautiful and the heated jacuzzi is also comfortable and relaxing. We didn't try the massages, but there is a small gym equipped with everything you need and a sauna. We didn't try the immense outdoor swimming pool, one meter and twenty high on one side and one and forty meters on the other. We didn't try it because we stayed in November on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd and therefore it was quite cold outside. Overall, the holiday was good and comfortable, a place that deserves it. The breakfast and cakes were also very good.
(Translated by Google) We chose the structure because it accepted Emozioni3 packages. Already at the time of booking the first surprise as we were asked for a surcharge of 40 euros per person because there were only superior rooms left. We arrived around 2pm and had to wait until 3pm for the reception to open and in the meantime no one answered the phone. We were given a room that had nothing superior about it and which, in fact, compared to other rooms in the hotel that we had the opportunity to see, was clearly inferior. The bed had a depression towards the center which made it very uncomfortable. Furthermore, on our return the second night we found a small scorpion on the bathroom door which we had to kill ourselves since the reception was closed. Our package also included two dinners but we ate only one evening inside the structure. On the second evening for personal reasons we ate elsewhere and we informed the owners of this choice at 4pm. When it came time to pay the bill, not only were we not given any discount for not having enjoyed dinner, but in fact they also wanted to make us pay for the two off-menu desserts that we had ordered during the first dinner. Only after various protests did we manage to not have them taken into account. Let's leave aside the spa which was very small, poorly maintained and dirty, as was the swimming pool. A real shame because the structure really deserves it given that it is an ancient farmhouse surrounded by greenery.
(Translated by Google) The Casale is in a beautiful location, isolated and quiet. The farmhouse has been renovated but internally it is poorly cared for. The unkempt SPA in the pool there were ants, and the bottom was dirty, the jacuzzi partially functional, but also dirty. The clean room and bathroom, the old farmhouse therefore reflects the classic farmhouse. The dinner was terrible, the service not bad, but the food was cheap. By trying to complain to the manager, I am almost laughed at... LITTLE professionalism, little honesty and little desire to work in my opinion. NEVER AGAIN (Original) Il Casale è in una bella posizione, isolato e tranquillo.
(Translated by Google) It might have all 5 stars but they get lost in the details. In the room (huge in space) some light bulbs are missing and others are burnt out, the fridge has one floor completely frozen and one completely flooded, the shower head is broken and it is impossible to regulate the temperature of the water. The restaurant does not combine the high quality of the food with adequate service with embarrassing waiting times. The spa deserves 5 stars for the very good and knowledgeable massage girl, but the structure is not enough to have it also needs to be maintained but this applies to the whole structure with vases with dry plants and the swimming pool which is cleaned once a week if all goes well. In all this the price seems too high to me.
(Translated by Google) Structure with excellent potential but very poorly exploited. First of all, the cleanliness is poor: despite the linen always ready and clean, the rooms are cleaned very little and poorly. The fact of being in the countryside may justify the presence of insects in the rooms, but this does not mean that dust on the furniture, 6-day-old cobwebs, pigeon and bat droppings on both internal and external windowsills can be tolerated. Even the restaurant chairs have dirty seats and backs full of dust in the moldings. The Spa is not worthy of that name: the jacuzzi has 50% of the nozzles not working, the swimming pool has a completely ruined edge and has fixed anthills (in 3 days I saw ants with wings and red ants going back and forth with the eggs along the entire edge). The farmhouse is not well kept, there are places roughly delimited with tables and chairs to limit access, vases and planters everywhere but with dry plants, a solarium area full of mosquitoes without disinfestation, rough renovations and random patches! kitchen has a rather monotonous dinner menu, although still of good quality, good and well-stocked breakfasts. The owners are kind and helpful, but given the age, I understand the lack of attention to certain details. It's a shame because the friendliness and the structure would be top marks, but the maintenance brings the rating down. Good price for a week's stay, but I strongly advise against booking for a spa weekend!

The place is really nice and clean, the services could be reviewed. The swimming pool was shallow and the water was rather lukewarm, not very hot, the jacuzzi was very nice but the knobs were broken. There were only two showers in the bathroom. I liked the environment but the fact that it wasn't that big also made it more welcoming (Original) Ambiente eccezzionale e personale molto preparato. The room had nothing of the suit, the shutters were soaked in bird droppings and half broken, the bathroom had no shower cabin but with a curtain that attached to the body, toilet paper and courtesy soap were missing which we had to go and 'beg' in person because the telephone didn't work. Disheartened but still with a bit of hope we went to the spa, which is accessed from the outside, the very small heated pool with weak water jets, the edge adorned with a black patina of dirt, peeling walls and ceiling. We tried the jacuzzi but the water was as cold as the room. The solarium does not exist, there is only one closed door, and the relaxation room is not comfortable with lukewarm herbal teas. We don't recommend it to anyone.

Very nice to see, here a perfect reconstruction
The sculpture ensemble itself is very interesting and unusual, but the park needs care and repair.
Well, the place was somewhat disappointing. The lake is highly eutrofied and the beach near where we aprked was dangerous due to quicksand. At least according to the sign!! The sculptures were interesting and there was a lakeboat sailing to nearby islands.
A green place, but not very landscaped or arranged, the lake is quite dirty and full of algae, and the beach seems to be made of dirt. on the lake you can go by boat to the island in the area.
Friendly place right on the banks of the Lago Trasimeno. Very casual, and inexpensive drink menu (4.5eu for compari spritz)
We went expecting it to be a good beach to swim at, but it's very shallow and mucky. A good place to have an espresso and gelato, though, or take the ferry to Isola Maggiore.
So quiet, maybe in summer it’s much crowded!

A very nice, small (2 rooms) museum for a reasonable entrance fee. It provides enough information about the battle in an interactive way. The kids enjoyed the opportunity to try on Roman and Carthaginian armor. Overall, this museum is better designed than the one in Cannae. Suitable for foreign tourists.
If you love historical battles, this a great place and well worth the 3 euro fee. If you are not interested in the Punic wars there is a great view of Lake Trasimeno that you can see for free from the terrace in front of the museum. The museum has a map to 12 historical markers throughout the battlefield. Many are walkable as we saw 4 markers on a 6 kilometer walk from the museum. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. It is only open part of the day but Google seems to have the correct hours.
This is a small, but well presented museum that makes the most of it's space by using screens and interactive presentations, along with a small number of artifacts. There are also a number of reproductions of arms and armour that you can handle, which is an excellent way of teaching! The curator is engaging, enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and he begins your time at the museum with a 15 minute talk about the battle using a scale model. He has excellent English! I was already very familiar with the battle and battlefield, but thoroughly enjoyed his talk. I am an Army officer, military historian and battlefield guide for the British military, and very much liked the way this museum was presented. I highly recommend it and would seek to take groups in the future.
A truly wonderful experience! I didn't expect much from such a small museum, but it turned out to be super interesting, especially thanks to the guide. He dedicated over an hour to us and spoke about each exhibit in a very interesting, informative and humorous way. We were in two and paid just 3€ per person. As for the tour, it’s available in both Italian and English, but it’s not paid separately, so its length and availability in general depends on the number of visitors, so if it’ll be crowded, it’s less likely to get such an all-encompassing tour, so I’d recommend to choose less busy hours and probably weekdays, especially during the high season in summer, from November to like March there’s pretty much no one, so I guess any day or hour should be fine. We visited the museum in November and even though it was a Sunday, we were alone so this great guy was able to dedicate so much time to us. All in all, one of the best museum experiences ever, really delighted meet someone so well versed in the subject, very friendly and passionate about what he does. Would absolutely recommend a visit!
The entire staff was so kind and so willing to teach. My husband and I had a wonderful time in one of the prettiest areas in Italy. Extra praise goes to Rudolf who went out of way to help us tour the surrounding area. One of the best experience!!
Excellent experience at this gem of a museum. Rudolf gave a very concise and informative overview of the battle and of Hannibal and the armies involved in the battle. Definitely worth the trip for those interested in the battle of Trasimeno or In Hannibal.
A small charming museum to inform people of this big moment in history! If you are a history nerd, this is a good place to stop. Then go have an expresso at the Cafe nearby!
It is a small museum but with incredible staff and very nice exhibit which was clearly done with great care. I would recommend this to every lover of Roman history.

I went to see the place with my sister, and I was amazed. The place is clean , the people were nice and the lady did a special sandwich for me so I could take on the train. The club was closed because it was morning, but I could see how nice it was inside. The food is fresh, which is why it sometimes takes a little longer, but it is worth it. I hope to come back again next year and learn some chachacha and enjoy this place more. Thanks again for the care.
This restaurant is near the lake it was very nice… so we were arrived at 8 pm ordered foods and drinks the beginning we got the drinks and in 1 hour and 20 minutes we were waiting but the foods still not coming then we asked to the staff after 10 minutes foods came it was very bad and also the service was very bad 👎👎👎
Avoid if looking for a quick stop off. No pizzas available at lunch, only offered 'sit down' menu. Almost €20 for 2 small beers and a plate of fries 🤷🏻‍♀️
- Incredibly overpriced for the quality of the food and the size of the portion. - 30min of waiting for the ordered dish even though the restaurant was not even half full. - The same 3 songs came on 3 times in the span of an hour. - 4 small pieces of unsalted bread in a paperbag for 4 people. But at least the lakeview is beautiful.
Where do I begin? This place is a joke. A weird and limited menu, unfriendly staff and awful tasting food. It’s such a shame as it’s a gorgeous area. It’s embarrassingly bad. The only reason we didn’t complain was because it would mean having to converse with the rude waitress again. Do not go here, save your money and your sanity.
Had the burger when I visited, and I would definitely recommend it. My mates' food dishes also got given the thumbs up. Would go again if I'm back in the area.
Just called in mid morning and had a cappuccino and croissant. Both delicious. The waitress was friendly, spoke English well and was helpful.
20 min waiting just to order, really unpleasant service, I would avoid it

Worth the trip and hike through the woods to see. This will get your curiosity for history going and rev up your imagination as you walk the ancient path and connect with the spirits of other that traversed here long ago. Off the beaten path but worth it!
Bit off the beaten path, but situated on a hill overlooking a beautiful valley. Picnic tables nearby. Happy that we took a chance (and a hike) to see this!
A bit of a hike (10-15 minutes) to get there The tower is pretty cool
Fantastic history, i have always loved Vernazzano, since i was a little kid.
Nice little site. Wear sensible shoes though, the path there is a bit rough.
Not worth it except a nice view of Lake Trasimene

(Translated by Google) The castle of Montegualandro is located in the territory of the municipality of Tuoro il Trasimeno on the border with Tuscany at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level. Excellent starting point for some beautiful excursions. Hannibal made camp there in the historic battle of Trasimeno in 217 BC. The fortress then belonged to Ariberto, lord of Monte S. Maria as it was donated to him by Charlemagne in the year 802. In 917 the lordship of the Marquis Uguccione II Bourbon was confirmed by the emperor Berengar and, later in 1165, Federico Barbarossa conquered the castle from the Perugians in combat. Subsequently, in 1238 Andrea Giacomo Montemelino, authority of Perugia, purchased the castle and was invested as lord of Montegualandro by Pope Gregory IX. Thus began the long possession of the fortress by the Montemelino family, who through various events maintained its dominion until 1678. In 1676, with the death of Count Adriano of Montemelino, the county was put up for sale - with no title - by Pope Innocent XI and purchased (1678) by Ruggero Ranieri for the sum of thirteen thousand scudi. Montegualandro then follows the vicissitudes of the State of the Church. In 1798, following the Jacobin revolution and the proclamation of the Roman Republic, it became a fortress of the Trasimeno Department, and later (1809), of the same department belonging to the Italian Kingdom of the Napoleonic Empire. At the fall of Napoleon. Upon the fall of Napoleon's reign, the papal gendarmes returned in 1851. After the annexation of the Province of Perugia to the Savoy Kingdom (1860) the Castle became the center of the Montegualandro Agricultural Company of the Counts Ranieri.
