We had the opportunity to visit this amazing historic place where people worked till the mid eighties. We met Nuno at the entrance and he was fantastic showing us around and sharing the incredible stories about the place, the activities in the industry and how things were done back then - thank you Nuno! This is a must see!!
This museum is like a slim book - small in size, yet with a few pages worth lingering over. The displays are pleasant, but the true richness lies in the video, which breathes life into the collection. The whale skeleton, impressive in its own right, becomes far more captivating once paired with the film’s explanations. Yes, the scale is modest, but that makes the visit concise and charming. If you have the chance, do go - for the story, for the bones, and for the quiet surprise of finding more than you expected.
Interesting for a short (20 minutes) visit. It’s well maintained and inexpensive but we found the one in Flores much better structured (giving you a more complete explanation and background) and organized, taking more than an hour if you want to read and learn. Recommended as a quick stop, not worth the trip per se.
Very interesting place. Quite gruesome photographs and memorabilia though a fascinating insight into a (fortunately) retired industry. The information boards are comprehensive and detail what is essentially butchery on an immense scale. There is an entry fee, though it was free on the day I went - a periodic free entry day. Worth a visit, if just to make you glad this this doesn't go on any more.
Informative museum of the local whaling industry, free to view
A blast to the not so distant past. A lot of information, photos and preserved equipment all within the original processing facility. Come and appreciate what the olden times were like - hard and laborious and quite lucky we no longer are required to take advantage of another species of this unique spec of a place we call Earth.
Great little spot tucked away pretty close to the ferry terminal. Pizza was not what we expected but very pleasant staff and quite accommodating. Nice house red.
This museum was fantastic! Cost 2 euros to get in but worth more! Amazing insight on how they used to hunt and process Sperm whales. All the equipment in the factory is still there and intact. Probably my favorite museum of the island.

Small, simple pond with native flora & fauna, views of Mt. Pico & a walking trail.

Among the many small lakes of the island, Lagoa do Capitao is reached mainly to catch some of the best views on mighty mountain cone of the Pico. It lies on a georaphicaly very central part of the island, without populated places around. The landscape is beautifull, blue water and green trees around it.
A beautiful lake where you can see the Pico Mountain right behind it. It's a great place to take pictures. Also there are a lot of fluffy cows nearby.
Well the weather was not so nice so I couldn’t enjoy the trekking around this small lake and its surroundings but the place is quiet, not so many people, worth to visit.
Quite and relaxing. You only ear the sounds of nature. I advice to walk a few meter ahead, to go up. From the top you're able to see all São Jorge island, if the weather is favorable.
Nice lake with prehistoric like view. Great view on Pico as well from here.
Nice calm place. Hint: Follow the dirt road for a beautiful view to Sao Jorge.
Beautiful lake with a views of Mt Pico.
Beautiful Lake, Crystal clear water, embedded in a lovely lush landscape of meadows

If we tell you to not miss out this interpretation center it is because here you will be able to know more about the tools used for the winemaking and conservation, some of them still used today. The space itself has a great view and the staff is friendly. You will also taste the wine “made in Pico” from the old and the modern times and if you wish you can take your own bottle home!
Nice place to visit if you wanna learn more about the wine in the region. I think there is a better museum in the island for that in Madalena. This one is nice, because it’s next to the volcano museum and you can visit while you’re waiting for your scheduled time in the other museum. If you’ve been to the other wine museum, I would skip this one. In end, you’ll try a sweat wine. I advise you to try “Czar 2009”, if they have it available.
New facility of volcano Museum and Wine tasting side by side. very interesting video and simulation. Enjoyed it. Our local guide is very passionate and happy explaining about the history. Could tell she really love this Island. Would strongly recommend tourist to drop by here. There's a pretty good educational value in it. Tasted 1 free wine from Pico island. Paid entrance fee of 8 euros and it seemed pretty fair. Whole experience was about 1hr. Parking was easy, just along the road side. Enjoy!
Small museum. Very helpful staff.
Quite small. Not much to see. But it's free.
Small but very good museumS : one about wines and the other about vulcanoes.
Visitation only with reservation in the middle of nowhere. The good vine yards are somewhere else. Thanks for nothing!
Could be better, staff not very informative

(Translated by Google) I was there for several days and they knew how to adapt to the sometimes not so easy conditions of unprotected islands. The boat well maintained and safe. Both Pedro and Luis, helped by Rodrigo, make a great team and their passion for fishing is evident. Very good coexistence and always eager to please. Highly recommended. I cannot recommend this enough! Felipe was a superb guide, who is an expert at avoiding the tourists to show you Pico at its best. The tour was informative, interesting and allowed us to see the best, most authentic parts of the island in the time we had. The food and wine were as good as the views and we loved the vineyard too! Thank you, Felipe! We hope the second Land Rover get’s sorted soon!
We had a great food and wine tour with Felipe. We really enjoyed his knowledge of Pico, his kindness, and his conversation. We got to taste amazing brandy, liquor, and wine, as well as a great local lunch. Felipe clearly has great connections with the local businesses and it shows in how they treat him and people on his tours! I'd highly recommend the food and wine tour with Felipe for anyone looking to have authentic food and drink experiences on Pico.
Fantastic day tour of Pico! Included wine and brandy tasting, but also many other great stops around the west side of the island. Felipe was a wonderful expert tour guide. Highly recommend!
Wonderful and talkative guide, smart and polite, gives very good explanations. Stops in a lot of nice places (we took the island tour), already has reservations to Gruta das Torres which individually is harder to get. Lunch was very good, with a lot of traditional food (starters, main, wine and desert). The whole group (4 adults and 3 teens) fully enjoyed the tour. I totally recommend it!
Brilliant tour! Felipe was a passionate guide and has a world of knowledge about the culture, fauna and food, he'll take you to the best spots. Definitely recommended.
Full day tour Excellent tour guide Philip showed amazing all the places with great humor All we enjoyed beautifulday with him!! Even lunch also best restaurant offered ending with mouth melting sweets and Azores fresh Pineapples !! We wish like to join with him soon !!! againagain!!
Untrustworthy guide A tour was agreed on for a full day tour with Philippe. After dinner I found an email, sent in the afternoon, canceling the tour claiming bad weather. That was a blatant tie. The forecast was good and the day, while breezy, was sunny and glorious. (Fortunately I took a chance, took the ferry from Horta to Pico and found a taxi who did the tour.). If Terralta can cancel for no good reason, they are unprofessional and can not be trusted. Don’t use them
If you want to discover Pico with a guide passionate about his island, these tour are for you! You will not only see the main spots, but also a few "secret places" that just await you. If you have the opportunity, go ahead for a day tour with lunch, as it will allow a moment of sharing while enjoying tasty Portuguese food. We came in Pico for the whales but this tour showed us the other side(s) of the island, and it was worth it. Thanks again for that special day !

Can't be more happy! Nídia was so kind the minute I got in touch by WhatsApp. I was looking for a specific lava handmade object, Nídia replied immediately, send some photos, and... it's done! I was not at Pico Island anymore, so she managed to post it quite quick! Amazing service. Super kind! Impossible not to recommend!
shop was closed on a Monday morning in March, but I called and they opened up immediately for me! Great selection of lava rock jewelry made from stones harvested from Pico!
This charming souvenir store offered unique handcrafted items made from local volcanic rock. While the store was initially closed, we called the number on the door and Nidia, the friendly owner who speaks perfect English, met us shortly after. We had a delightful conversation and purchased several items. Highly recommend checking out this gem!
Friendly owner, great handmade unique souvenirs, earrings, bracelets and others. Specially from the lava stones.
Lovely shop, lots of local souvenirs and jewelry.
Great place for souvenirs on the island of pico. Everything is handmaid & well priced
Excellent hand made items, great for earrings, wonderful hand carved lava rock figures
Cute handmade gifts, made by the owners of the shop. Very friendly :)
