This cute church on the rainbow street was a perfect stop. The near cafe and restaurants offered a perfect food and coffee break. Super scenic town and a good grocery store with fresh fruits/ snacks for the drive
Cute little church in a picturesque town. You can also enter the church. Parking was available in front of the church. In walking distance there is an information center with WC and maps if you’re interested. There’s plenty of things to do around this area. Several restaurants nearby and of course the rainbow path leading to the Church. Well worth a detour from the ring road.
Seyðisfjarðarkirkja, the iconic blue church in Seydisfjordur, is a charming must-visit! Its vibrant turquoise exterior and quaint wooden interior create a warm, welcoming vibe. Nestled against stunning mountains and a serene fjord, it’s perfect for photos, especially with the rainbow path leading to it. The church hosts occasional concerts, adding to its cultural charm. Easily accessible in the village center, it’s a peaceful spot for reflection. Whether you’re a history buff or just love beautiful architecture, Seyðisfjarðarkirkja is a delightful gem in Iceland’s East Fjords!
Cute little town on the water. Lots of hiking and beauty to be seen. Driving into this town isn't for those afraid of heights. You drive over a mountain to get there, so check the road conditions. You are well rewarded for making the trek.
Seyðisfjörður’s charming blue church—Seyðisfjarðarkirkja—is a true highlight in the fjord town, with its pale-blue timber façade beautifully framed by towering mountains. Perched at the end of the iconic rainbow-painted street, it's endlessly photogenic, especially on sunny days when the pastel colors pop. Sometimes there is a line to take a good photo-but it takes few minutes to wait.
The church sits at the end of the rainbow walk with a backdrop of spectacular trickling waterfalls coming down! Spectacular town and Fjord! Highly recommended to visit.
Cute little town. The arts centre had a great exhibition about Kjarval. Some cute shops but also a cruise ship port, so prices reflect that. The spinny lady is also super spinny.
What a beautiful town, surrounded by mountains and water, very quiet. It is said that Seyðisfjarðarkirkja Rainbow Street Church is one of the filming locations of the movie "Daydreamer"

A beautiful waterfall just outside Seyðisfjörður, easy to reach by car with a parking area right next to it. It’s powerful, scenic, and surrounded by peaceful mountain views — a perfect quick stop on the way in or out of the fjord. If you walk a bit further up the trail above Gufufoss, you’ll find another smaller double waterfall that’s definitely worth the short extra effort. It’s much quieter and feels like a hidden gem compared to the main falls. A great spot for photos and a breath of fresh mountain air without the crowds.
Not the best of the thousands of waterfalls in Iceland, but still worth the short trip up the valley from the town of Seydisfjourdur. There is a layby next to the road and a very short walk from there. If you get too close to the falls you will get wet from the spray! A lovely place to stop and take in the beauty of the nature.
Gufu Waterfall in Seydisfjordur is a stunning gem! The 27-meter cascade, surrounded by lush greenery, creates a serene atmosphere. Easily accessible via Route 93, it’s perfect for a quick stop or a relaxing picnic. The misty spray often forms rainbows, ideal for photographers. Trails offer great views of the fjord and mountains. A tranquil escape from city life, Gufu is a must-see for nature lovers visiting Iceland’s East Fjords!
Quick stop to or fro Seydisfjordur down the valley you will find a small parking space where you can take a quick stop and short walk up to this waterfall. A simple waterfall much less spectacular when compared to the diverse waterfalls Iceland has to offer. What was more spectacular IMO is the valley itself in particular further up with several trickling waterfalls lushing down towards the valley combing and finally settling at Seydisfjordur!
Gufu Waterfall (Gufufoss) is a serene yet powerful hidden gem—dramatic plumes of steam and mist rise from its basalt-carved gorge. The easy walk to the viewpoint rewards with stunning close‑up views and photo ops. It’s quieter than the major falls, offering a peaceful, immersive nature experience. Bring a light jacket—mist is part of the magic! We were lucky to see it when it appeared in the fog!
It's a pretty waterfall. We went in the afternoon which was not the best time to view it. The sun was backlighting the waterfall. It was windy and there was a lot of spray. There's a small, but free, parking lot. No WCs, no services.
This is a very easy access fall, just on the road side. Very good water volume and picturesque.
It is very easy to get near the waterfall via a rocky pathway. Not wheel chair accessible to get down to the waterfall, but it is a relatively easy walking path. You can view the waterfall from a distance at a pull off on the road. Definitely worth a stop if driving by, but I'm not sure I would have wanted to walk there from the town. It would have been a bit far in the cold.

Nice restaurant. Thank you Bruno for your kindness, for the good gluten free beer and taking care of us.
small but nice, no entry fee but donation appreciated
A cute art gallery that had exhibits of whale prints and a wooden sculpture. There's a bistro below which wasn't open when we visited. The admission was free. It's worth a visit.
Nice place to visit. We were charged a mandatory 500isk fee to enter which we didn't expect.
Very disappointing. Free entry! But donation requested by very stern lady at reception. One room with pictures of deceased whales. Definitely not our thing.
A fun little gallery, with nice and helpful staff. I was impressed by how recent the art was (2018, and I visited in June 2018), they must change the art a lot!
Nice but not many paintings
Entry 500 kr, just one room. Its okay

Very engaging exhibition of the technical advances of Seyðisfjörður. Despite half of the museum being destroyed by a landslide it's totally worth a visit. You can learn to morse there.
Took a big hit from a landslide but survived. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. A variety of exhibits from telegraphy to must play with geological sandpit
Nice little museum, currently (2025) recovering from a landslide. Signage is in Icelandic and English, audio is mostly in Icelandic.
Katla gave me a warm welcome yesterday afternoon. About 10 minutes walk from the Centrum. Grim and gritty early industrial site which survived the rocks rockslide of 2020. Neighboring buildings were swept into the harbor. Here, machinists forged iron implements and maintained the village's precious machinery. There is also a fine display of village life during the WW2 occupation by British and Amrrican troops. This site had the first telegraph in Iceland. Although this communication equipment is now in storage, it will be on display at the new museum which is under construction.
A small but very nice installation. Very friendly staff. The visit was part of my guided walking tour.
For the price of a beer in the local bar yiu can spend a nice hour here, looking at all the old stuff. Could use more signs and english translations though. All the printing presses still work and are in actual use. The map making machine is impressive, first I've ever seen.
Wonderful museum and staff. Excellent use of modern technology and VR glasses to showcase the local history
Museum about an original ship repair workshop with old dusty original tools and forge still inplace. The genius owner harnested the mechanical power of the nearby water stream to power most of his tools and later generate electricity for lighting and arc welding with a turbine directly within the workshop. There are also many old machines (printing presses, dentist station, hydro power control station, ...) from the 40s to the 60s in the main hall of the museum.

This lighthouse is different than most in iceland so I was happy to have a few minutes to view it. Its a conical tower with vertical stripes. Its a bit weather worn as many are, but the coastal storms do rage here, so its no surprise at all. The parking is a little above the light's position on the cliffs so the lighthouse is easily seen without even walking right down to it if time is short. However, its also not a very long walk should you choose a closer view. My photos are all from the parking lot. Free parking and no facilities. Lighthouse is view only.
Sept.24 Cute white lighthouse next to road with great views. Just a photo stop.
The road is out, but it's not a bad walk down to it. Ugly poles block most good photo ops.
The view towards the mountains is gorgeous! There is a small trail that is nice to wander around the rocky shore for a short while. A few signs are trying to tell you something about some geological feature, with mixed success. The lighthouse itself is unspectacular.
Path in has ice (this is March). Parked at the top, the path down is unsuitable for small cars, so walk down if you wish to get a closer look. But it's just a lighthouse.
The lighthouse is located near the road number 1, which surrounds the whole island, or rather the country)))). The whole Atlantic Ocean is in front of you .... all the way to Antarctica)))))
Nice view and interesting looking lighthouse. Great for a quick stop.
Looked cool from the parking lot

A quaint shop located along the rainbow walkway that offers quality Icelandic products. Definitely worth a browse inside.
This is a nice gift and souvenir shop along Norðurgata in the town centre of Seyðisfjörður. The shop is easy to find due to the creatively designed and painted black-and-white exterior. Opening hours are posted as 11am to 6pm daily (closed on Sundays). You'll find a nice range of handcraft products, chocolates, traditional souvenirs and related items, potentially worth buying as gifts or memories of your trip to Iceland. Worth a visit and look around as well even if you are not intending to make purchase.
Lovely little shop - FYI the hours in Google are not updated and they are currently open 10-18 everyday.
Cute store along the Rainbow Road. Stopped in an picked up many Icelandic-made souvenirs for family! Staff was friendly and helpful - they guided us to the right size of wool socks, and convinced us to buy some locally made chocolate that I'm still enjoying now!!
Nice souvenirs shop, cool from the outside.
Lovely little sop offering the best of Icelands crafts. Always welcoming owner who obviously loves what she is doing . Trust her advice .
Very nice little shop with souvenirs you can't find elsewhere. :)
Perfect place to pick up gifts or keepsakes from all over Iceland.

Drove up here from the city to watch the Aurora Borealis and enjoy the magnificent view of the city and surrounding mountains during sunset. If you visit during the winter, prepare to FREEZE! It is very windy up here, so get a warm jacket or just stay in your car and shut all the lights and enjoy the beautiful views and pin-drop silence. The drive up here is on a windy road, so be sure you drive carefully and slowly.
