Worth the detour! Possibly one of the most spectacular caves in the world. Photos won't do it justice. Size wise, you can fit Notre-Dame de Paris in it and stalagmites are up to 40 meters tall. It's quite impressive and beautiful. Ticket prices are on the reasonable end of the spectrum. Good and reasonably priced food at the local café.
An exceptional cave. Difficult to convey how beautiful it is. The sloping railway takes you down to an area near the top of the cave. The tour requires you to walk on sloping and stepped paths to the floor of the cave and then back up to the train which returns you to the surface. Given it is cool in the cave, this isn't arduous for reasonably fit, mobile people, but for the elderly or infirm, the climb back up the steps - 2x a normal house stairs? - could be a challenge. The lighting is subtle and does highlight the stalactites and stalagmites along with all of the other deposited shapes. The sheer size of the cave is breathtaking and it takes a moment to comprehend what you are seeing as people on the floor of the cave look like small models. The guide speaks only french, written guides are available in other languages. The tour is slow with lots of stops where the guide explains what you are seeing. We don't speak French and didn't opt for a written guide, just looking was enough. This is the first time that I have seen stalactites that have small rim-pools on their sides and these make the stalactites seem almost plant like. There are places where the stalactites and stalagmites have joined and formed columns. There are also plenty of translucent curtain forms and lines of stalactites hanging from the roof. There is a wall that is covered with calcium forms that look like trees and animals. My words do a poor job of describing what you'll see if you visit. It really is worth seeing. There are displays and a video explaining the discovery and history of the cave in a large visitor and ticket centre and there are people here that speak English, but I'm not sure what other languages they have. There is also a restaurant that serves meals and snacks along with lots of different drinks. The car park is large and I would expect this place is very busy in high season so book tickets on line to ensure you don't have a wasted visit. It is not a place that would be suitable for wheel chair users as a lot of the cave is accessed by stairs. If you like a good cave, have an interest in geology or the natural world, then this is for you. The cave more than justifies the ticket price.
We try to visit every cave we pass. But Aven Armand must be within the top three. There are no cave paintings or other traces of human habitation. There are better places for this. But the sheer size, the unusual shapes and the tasteful lighting make it super impressive.
Possibly one of the most awe inspiring places we visited in France. Spectacular shapes created by Nature over thousands of years. Albeit in group most were stunned into silence and just let the guide do her thing. It was like diving and swimming in the Great Barrier Reef without all the equipment in places!
Very impressive cave with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Everyone was so in awe that even in the quite large group there was hardly any sound the first 15 minutes. I would have wished for a smaller group, it would have been easier to hear what the guide explains. But as a foreigner you even get a booklet in your language where you can read it all again. Nice light effects to tell the story, yet I wonder how exciting it must have been 100 years back to discover something like this!
Really worth a detour. We have seen many caves/grottes but this is very special due to the size of the cavern and the numerous of very high stalagmites! Go and see!
Lovely time at an incredible spot. Staff and food were better than expected. A gem of a place amid such varied natural wonders!

Well I have been in the area and had never visited before. It was quite expensive €16 euros each, but the tour was over 1.5 hours all in French but was an amazing set of huge caves interlinked by walkways, at one point down 121 large steps, so only for fit people. The photos do not really show the beautiful colours of the stalactites and stalagmites. Which are which? You ask well mites go up and if you are lucky tites come down.
Stunning caves. English tour was great. The tour had a brisk enough pace that my 4 and 6 year old didn't get bored. Cafe and picnic tables overlooking the canyon.
Excellent visit, beautiful cave. Guided tour. The guide was speaking french obviously and the English leaflet they provided wasn't great but this did not detract from the the enjoyment of our visit. Be aware the final cave involves a 120 step descent, which obviously you have to come back up!
This is a fantastic cave system. We arrived after the english spoken tour had left and joined a French speaking tour (this wasn’t ideal given our limited knowledge of French). Possibly consider ringing ahead or trying to find out the times of the tours for your preferred language; I’m not sure the website highlights this clearly enough. The tours are only provided in groups with a guide but I think when you see the caves and how well they are preserved this makes perfect sense. We’ve visited quite a few caves across France and these are very impressive and well worth a visit. For the non French speaking on the tour they have access to WiFi in the shop and you can download the webpage with audio snippets onto your phone in English. Some people had difficulty with this but once you leave the shop you will likely no longer have signal so I think you have to avoid refreshing your browser in order for it to work. I’d recommend taking AirPods/earbuds for your phone. Enjoy!
I would like to thank the organisation for opening this cave in winter time. It is a brilliant experience in winter time! Now the cave is warmer than outside and it is quiet....oh so quiet inside. We were just 5 people with Sarah as our guide, it was fantastic. To be at the lowest point of the cave and switch off all the lights and just stand there in pitch black darkness listening to the drops of water forming this amazing cave. A truly wonderfull experience!
A great experience! Our guide Lillian was excellent. The cave is wonderful!
Wonderful caves to visit with family. Book your visit prior to the visit to have no bad surprises.
A bit off the beaten track, but we'll worth a visit. I thought it was very cheap considering the length of the tour

(Translated by Google) Very warm welcome without this tourist office nestled in the heart of Meyrueis, a magnificent medieval town located at the gateway to the Cévennes, in the Jonte gorges, crossed along its length by a laughing stream - the Bethuzon - spanned by the footbridges of restaurants where it is good to eat a trout or have a drink at dusk. (Translated by Google) MEYRUEIS, very beautiful village between Causses and Cévennes. The village of Meyrueis, at the entrance to the Gorges de la Jonte and at the foot of Mont AIGOUAL, is the point of contact between CAUSSES AND CÉVENNES. With a rich trading and manufacturing past (wool, hat making, etc.), the Meyrueis and Gorges de la Jonte sector saw the birth of tourism around the 1880s with the exploration by Edouard Alfred Martel of sites such as Bramabiau , Dargilan, Aven Armand or even Montpellier-le-vieux. It is a tourist village which combines calm and services, with numerous accommodations and restaurants, the fruit of a tradition of welcoming tourists that is already more than centuries old.

(Translated by Google) My three friends and I canceled our canyoning trip because of the very bad weather. The contract mentions that in the event of bad weather, cancellation is free, but in reality, this only applies to the service provider, not to the customers! We tried to contact them five times to decide whether to cancel and to get information, but they never responded or called back. When we finally got a response, it was just a brief text message saying: 'Ok thanks, noted', without ever mentioning that significant costs would be incurred. We later discovered that more than half of the amount would not be refunded. It’s scandalous and absolutely not transparent. Avoid!
