Hulking medieval fortress perched on a riverside clifftop, with a Romanesque keep & frescoed chapel.

Great medieval castle with stunning views and no crowds. Fascinating history and well-preserved architecture make it worth visiting. Important tip: Skip the lower parking and go straight to the upper lot (same price). The walk up from below is very steep and challenging - those with mobility issues should definitely use the top parking. The upper lot saves you a difficult climb and gets you right to the entrance. Highly recommend for history lovers looking for an authentic castle experience without the tourist masses.
The video explaining the architecture of Château de Beynac was excellent. The accompanying app provided an audio guide and the narrative about Queen Eleanor and her son, King Henry, enriching the experience. The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking, offering a unique perspective reminiscent of the monarchy, where you feel as if you’re overlooking the entire land, inspiring a sense of responsibility to protect it. From this vantage point, you can also see the nearby Castelnaud-la-Chapelle Castle. The entrance fee is quite reasonable, making this visit even more worthwhile. Highly recommend!
Château de Beynac is stunning—basically the Beyoncé of castles. The views will wreck you (in a good way), and the stairs will leave you breathless along with the view. Worth it. Also, the castle was basically for a woman who had two husbands bc she could. Iconic
Grand castle. Need 1 hour to go through it. Asked to download the application as tour guide. Could have provided a pamphlet instead of it. View was stunning and worth a one time visit
The most amazing Château we have been to yet! Well worth the trip, just make sure you park up top and not on river like we did. It's a very steep, but beautiful walk up the path if you want some exercise tho.
One of the most impressive castles in the Périgord. Majestic, its location remains breathtaking and its panorama exceptional. Indeed, this incredible medieval fortress, perched on its golden cliff, overlooks the Dordogne River from over 150 meters above sea level. A true movie set ! A tour of the castle will take you from the 12th-century keep to the majestic Salle des Etats, ending at the top of the Éperon Tower, where you'll overlook the valley just as the Beynac family, to whom the building belonged for nearly 1,000 years, did. From there, the view over the Valley of the Five Castles is superb ! When leaving the castle, we've visit the church, whose stately lodge is open to the public.
What an incredible castle. This ancient castle sits above the Dordogne Valley with an ancient 12th century village on the surrounding hillside. No guides, just enjoy at your own pace. A must see if you are in the area.
A wonderful place which is beautifully preserved and enhanced with interactive experiences including audio guides in multiple languages and an informative slide show. Visited on a beautifully sunny day in November, no crowds and plenty of time and space to explore.

Our group find this to be an enjoyable relaxing guided tour. It’s about an hour and guide turn the boat do all can take pictures. The guide was interesting and there is a booklet in English. Bring hat !
We had such a wonderful experience on the Gabarres de Beynac. Even though we were the only English speakers on a French-language tour, it didn’t matter at all. The guide was warm, personable, and so much fun to listen to that we truly enjoyed her storytelling, even when we couldn’t fully understand every word. The English-language guide provided helped us follow along, but honestly, we found ourselves happily listening in French and catching more than we expected. The ride was beautiful, informative, and so enjoyable. We learned a lot about the history and the region, and the scenery from the river was absolutely stunning. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting—it was such a highlight of our trip!
A lovely 50 minute boat ride along the Dordoigne. The captain waited 10 minutes for the fog to disappear which was perfect as the day turned crystal clear. The written English history was good and the guide who was giving the tour in French gave us some highlights in English which was great. The scenery is amazing. Well worth the cost.
Beautiful and low priced 50 minute boat tour on the Dordogne river with extraordinary views of Beynac-et-Cazenac! The tour guide was absolutely fantastic, energetic & informative. She absolutely loves her job and her beautiful home. As the tour was in French & we were the only English speaking onboard, we were provided a printed version of the tour yet she also went out of her way to give us the important details of the excursion in English. Not all tour guides do that so we greatly appreciated the extra effort. The traditional boat is not massive so you get a personal experience along with unobstructed views/ photos of the sights. Highly recommended during your visit to Beynac-et-Cazenac for unbelievably epic views of the town from water!!!
Nice way to spend an hour. Good commentary on the history of the local chateaus. Good photo opportunities you won’t get from other places. They are happy for a dog onboard.
At the foot of this fascinating Most Beautiful Village in France Beynac, Each barge, baptized with legendary names (the Gratusse and the Coulobre), awakens the memories of the merchant waters of the world's largest biosphere reserve in France ... the Dordogne ! We'll be carried by these transparent waters revealing the sumptuous landscapes shaped by exuberant nature, golden stones and perched fortresses. The luckiest will also spot a few kingfishers among swallows and birds of prey.
Good trip. Disappointed that you advertise various languages catered for and the commentary was in French. We were only offered a translated sheet half way through the trip. This should have been dealt with when boarding. Consequently we missed the detail offered and the beauty of the trip Suggest you resolve this issue for the benefit of future customers
Our guide was fantastic, had lots of great stories and kept us entertained. Perfect English as we don’t speak French so we always really appreciate this. Thank you!

We booked this trip from the uk for my son’s 16th birthday during our holiday and it worked out perfectly 👍🏻. We paid by bank transfer the 50% deposit and the balance 50% by card on the morning of our flight. This was a fantastic experience from pick up with Stark in the Land Rover to drop off back in Beynac. Mathieu was an amazing balloon 🎈 pilot and made us all feel welcome and safe (in English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ). It was great to be able to get involved helping to inflate and deflate the balloon (totally optional) A nice coffee ☕️ and croissant 🥐 at the end made it even better. Many companies operate in this area but I have to say that this one is 10/10 and don’t be put off by the 50% deposit upfront. Great company, great staff amazing experience in a wonderful location.
Fantastic Pilot and crew, professional and fulfilled a bucket list item and more for us! Views were breathtaking and flight was smooth, interesting and the team were very safety conscious ! Highly recommend this company and their experienced team members .
My husband and I did a bolloon ride this morning. It was a wonderful experience and we enjoyed it a lot. The pilot did a very good job and all safety rules were followed.
This company is phenomenal. Jonas was brilliant at information sharing and quick to reply to any questions. 👨‍✈️ Lionel was our experienced and funny pilot with Mark as our man on the ground. They ensured we knew what was happening and when. They were engaging (and had far better English than I expected). They also showed true kindness and thoughtfulness to my 9 year old. My biggest concern about the entire thing was the landing and Lionel landed us absolutely perfectly! Not a single bump, it was text book and so impressive. It’s a surreal experience and if you are on the fence about doing it, I’d say call them and book it! Insiders tips ; It’s a lot more physical than you might think, packing the balloon 🎈 away that is. Some serious heaving. You land in a field so wear grubbies and waterproof shoes (if possible) you don’t care about. It’s also rather loud in the basket with the fire blasts, so if you have sensitive hearing bring ear defenders or cotton wool. It was a wonderful experience and I am so pleased we chose this team. Faultless 🤩 thank you so much 🙏
We had an amazing experience with Balloon &Castles, our pilot was Laurent, he was knowledgeable and professional. We felt secure as soon as we started. The crew waited for the wind to calm down to fly and they were ready to cancel the flight if they felt any danger could arise. We flew for 56 minutes, the maximum height was 956meters and landed 15 km away, we were lucky to fly above Sarlat which doesn't happen often from what Laurent mentioned. The aperitif after the flight was the perfect ending. Highly recommended.
What a morning! Well worth the early rise. Such a scenic sunrise flight over the Dordogne valley seeing lots of magical châteaux. Our pilot, Mathieu, and driver, Mouloud, were incredible. Such a wonderful experience. One we will never forget. Worth going in the morning to get the best of the day. Recommended for a more enjoyable experience before the heat of the day.
We had a fantastic evening flight. Mathieu, our pilot, spoke perfect English and looked after us brilliantly during our trip. We would definitely recommend this company with no hesitation.
Amazing experience! Booked for my mum's birthday and she loved it! Simon and Olivier were brilliant 🙌🏼

(Translated by Google) A very beautiful village in Périgord. It is a shame that there is a charge for parking. Come in the evening, it's free and just as beautiful. (Translated by Google) Two of my friends told me they received a very poor welcome at the village tourist office. I wanted to see for myself. The office is even better stocked than in other years, but the welcome is appalling. Not a single smile! We have the terrible feeling of disturbing this young woman who, moreover, showed arrogance towards me. What a reflection of this superb village! I was simply inquiring if there was a book box in the village. I am extremely disappointed and very saddened to imagine the welcome that will be reserved for future visitors. Besides, the season has only just begun. We can't even find an excuse for her being tired... (Translated by Google) A beautiful city and a castle which are worth a detour. An unmissable village and a castle that is no less so. The walk is essential and the paid parking, 3€ minimum, gives you the opportunity to make a contribution to the community. I see opinions from people who complain about this price, I do not find it excessive to pay 3 € in a town of 550 souls which receives so many visitors, while offering them sufficient comfort. A beautiful city that doesn't deserve all these grumpy people. (Original) Une belle cité et un château qui méritent que l'on fasse un détour. (Translated by Google) A €30 fine for parking alone in the bush: thanks to the Beynac-et-Cazenac town hall! On March 4, 2025, at 4:10 p.m., I arrived at the Beynac castle parking lot. Two cars parked, off-season, deserted village. That same morning, all the parking meters in Sarlat had been deactivated for the off-season. But in Beynac-et-Cazenac, there was no respite: a municipal officer fined me €30 for not putting a coin in the meter. Five minutes from the castle entrance, almost alone, I was fined. Who would imagine that in March, in the middle of the week, in a remote corner of the Périgord, people still have to pay for parking? It's simply absurd and shameful. The town hall of Beynac-et-Cazenac has clearly found a way: trapping the rare off-season visitors to fill the coffers. Meanwhile, my taxes are being used to maintain this heritage... only to have an agent sent to tax me like a thief. A local racket disguised as municipal management. Beynac is worth the detour, but the town hall itself makes you want to run away.

Very beautiful spot and delicious food. The Canar i choose was perfect as only French chefs can do that. Friendly staff made it 5 star for me.
Great location in the shadow of the Chateau. Excellent friendly service. Nice lunch. Would have given five stars but the food could have been a bit better quality; the burger was certainly not on artisan bread and tasted suspiciously like a pretty standard American roll that can be bought in any supermarket. Not too expensive though as some places can be in tourist areas.
Terrace outside and indoor seating. Counter outside with ice creams served. Selection of beer and menu if you’re hungry. Called in for a beer after the climb up from the river. Nice place and friendly service.
Good restaurant with tasty food. The service was good, the facilities were very tidy and the scene was also very pleasant. Prices are on the low/mid range.
Delicious food, very well priced for the taste and quality of food, and the staff were amazing with our young family. Highly recommended.
Great even out of season. Friendly, relaxed and good value, well presented bar food, snacks, sandwiches etc. Great for a coffee and desert too or just a drink. Given the location the prices are very fair. The service is quick and it's great with kids (but not aimed at kids-it is a local bar). This place gets better every year and we make a point of popping in when we are in the area.
I didn't get to eat here. We were shown to a table and promptly ignored. Even by the relaxed standards of France this was slow in the extreme. We were not even offered drinks whilst we looked through the menu and after half an hour we left. This is my worst experience of eating out in what is usually a very friendly and enjoyable country. If I could award no stars I would.
Found staff cold and rude. Kept muttering roast beef under their breath to our young family of 4. Really unhelpful and crosshatch we dare cross their threshold for service..perhaps us not ordering a 3 course meal meant we were not worthy to serve.
