Decided to stop here to break up the drive from Granada to Ronda, and were very glad we did. Perched above a beautiful little village, the castle is decently preserved and you can get a real feel for the history that it's seen. Cheap entry and good qr code audio guides. It takes an hour to see everything and the views are spectacular. Well worth a visit. If you drive, don't take Google's directions to the end of the road in the village. It's a dead end by the police station with no parking! Park well before you get to the top of the hill, wherever you see a spot.
Do not miss the occasion to visit this beautiful mountain town near Rute, you will not be disappointed. The museum is definitely worth the time so be sure to plan ahead for the time required and opening hours.
🏯 Iznájar Castle – The Overlooked Jewel of Andalucía A castle above a sea of white houses and olive trees... Towering above one of Andalucía’s prettiest white towns, the castle of Iznájar has watched over olive groves for centuries. Built during the 8th–9th centuries under Moorish rule, later taken by Christians. Views? Unreal. History? Deep. Vibe? Peaceful. Walk the old walls, then explore the flower-filled patios below. It’s not touristy — yet.
What a lovely town. Not so many tourist. And beautiful views.
Love a visit to the Castle. Restored beautifully, with varied exhibitions of local interest.
A well-preserved frontier castle from the Reconquista era
Beautiful, stunning views... brace yourself for a steep incline to get up there but we'll worth the effort if you're fit and able.
Fantastic views from the castle and from the other side of the hills looking across to Iznajar town and castle. Beautifully kept place. Has a village feel to it. Lots of photo opportunities. Very peaceful. Love it here. Check out the manmade lake and beach there. So relaxing along with fabulous views.

Lovely little place and nice coffee
(Translated by Google) It is one of the most typical and representative images of the municipality, being located in the area within the castle walls. It is a typical Andalusian corner in the purest Cordoba style with flowers, pots and profuse decorations. During the Arab period, its structure housed the town's souk, and from 1531 onwards it housed theatrical performances or comedies. On several occasions he has received different awards from the corner competitions organized by the Commonwealth of Subbética and the Provincial Council of Córdoba.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful corner next to the Izanajar castle. The bar is cute, full of little blue flower pots, with a little terrace in a beautiful square with a fountain. The views from the interior balcony are very beautiful. The tapas we ordered were very delicious and at a very good price. Friendly staff. Totally recommendable. Personal amable. Totalmentr recomendable.
(Translated by Google) Iznajar is very pretty (especially the panoramas that we have from the different viewpoints of the city), but in terms of the number of restaurants in the city center, they still have a lot of room for improvement because when we ask on a recommended place for lunch, we are mainly referred to tapas bars or outside the city... Hence the pleasant surprise and the impression of having finally drawn the right pick when discovering this little shaded patio, a little set back on the heights of an alley which leads to the old castle, and superbly decorated with wall flower pots azure blues matching the color of the furniture and the fountain which sits in the center of the courtyard. The interior terrace opens onto a panoramic view of the neighboring lake, as do the exterior stairs which offer another lovely perspective below the establishment. We feel that the sophistication of the ornaments is skillfully maintained for a mainly tourist target, but that doesn't matter since it is very pleasant to make a refreshing stopover at very reasonable prices (€1.50 from memory for a bottle of wine). 'sparkling water). I cannot judge the quality of the dishes served (having finally taken a snack break elsewhere beforehand), but the group of English people who were having lunch at the next table seemed satisfied with their pizzas, since they had not opted for local tapas (certainly for fear of too brutal an intestinal “Jetlag”). So, if only for the decor, the atmosphere of idleness, and the judicious location, I give it a rating of 4, hoping to try their tapas during a potential next visit. (But it’s not a given, because Iznajar is still a little far from everything!).

A beautiful, relaxing experience in a stunning location. We booked a private hire for a birthday and it didn't disappoint. A stunning boat with ample, super comfortable, and spacious seating with plenty of room to move around. An informative and interesting trip where we saw not only the village from a totally different perspective with its dramatic cliffs but the dam, the volcano, La Hoz and the many little islands. We enjoyed lovely food and champagne whilst relaxing on the lake for a few hours. Sunshine, with a gentle breeze and magnificent scenery. We couldn't recommend it more, particularly for that special occasion or just a pleasant afternoon and it is definitely value for money. We will certainly be doing it again ! Thank you. 😊
We spent a lovely evening on a sunset cruise with our captain Jim. This was such an enjoyable evening and something a little different. Thanks Jim for the memories from Claire and family
Wonderful boat trip / tour around the gorgeous Lake Iznajar. Very relaxed company and our Captain - Jim - giving us a run down of the local history from Roman times to the present. The 2 hours flew by. Would highly recommend. Many thanks Jim from Adam, Sarah, Zofia (Lola) and Lucas.
We had a great boat trip during our recent trip to Spain. Cliff was very informative and showed us many different buildings which are usually covered by the lake. Great fun and a great price!
My group of six hired this boat for a two hour birthday cruise on Lake Iznajar. The boat itself was very stable with ample space and comfortable seating. The combination of good food, great music and stunning scenery all added to the experience but ultimately it was ‘Captain Cliff’ himself who made the day truly unforgettable. His knowledge of the lake and surrounding area was great but his constant stream of one liners and funny stories ensured everyone was involved throughout and he even allowed my wife to wear the Captains hat and have a go at “driving”. If you only visit Iznajar for a few hours make sure you take this boat trip. You will not be disappointed.
The lake tour of Iznajar is a real highlight not too be missed. Snacks (tapas) and all sorts drinks were offered through the 2.5 hour trip. The boat has very comfortable seats and hardly rocks even when the wind picks up.The guide was very friendly and explained to us everything related to the history of the lake and surrounding area. We did the trip in the evening as it wasn't too hot and with the sun going down it added a very romantic touch to it. We found the price to be very fair and recommend this wonderful experience to everyone who come to this part of Andalusia.
I had a most enjoyable 75 min trip around the western part of the lake today. The boat is comfortable and spacious, a nice group of mixed nationalities on board with a helpful and welcoming captain. The views from the lake of the hills and then the village on the return leg are superb. Highly recommended and great value
Very enjoyable trip. captain Jim was very knowledgeable about the area and made the facts interesting for all ages. Would highly recommend

(Translated by Google) The Church of Santiago Apóstol is located in the neighborhood of La Villa de Iznájar, in the highest area of the town next to the castle and the old Municipal Granary. It is an imposing example of Renaissance architecture and its construction began in 1547, although the works on the temple were not completed until 1638. Covered by a large open vault, inside the church its main altarpiece stands out, a work from the 18th century. , as well as various goldsmith works. In the shape of a Latin cross, a primitive church with a single nave was first built, on which the church as we can see it today was later built. Between 2005 and 2008, it was extensively restored to return it to its former splendor, recovering old frescoes that were in the chapel and on the sides of the altar, as well as maintaining the majestic altarpiece in the central nave. It has the main Catholic imagery of the city, which is formed by the brotherhoods and brotherhoods that process through its streets every Easter.
(Translated by Google) Although it was closed, on the outside it has an apparently robust structure. It was built in the Renaissance period between 1547 and 1638 and the purpose was to make a church of large proportions, but it was not completed due to foundation problems. At the beginning of the 18th century, a large buttress with buttress was built over the street to contain the corner of the transept opposite the tower.
(Translated by Google) We were lucky to find this church open and to be able to enter it, because every time we have gone to Iznajar we have found it closed. Located in the highest part of the town, within the precincts of the medieval town. It was developed in the Renaissance period between 1547 and 1638 by Hernan Ruiz the Younger with extensive restoration in 2005 to 2008, recovering its original state in stone. After the whitewash, original frescoes from the 17th century appeared that can be seen on the sides near the altar. Although it always had seating problems, at the beginning of the 18th century a large Botarel was built, with a flying buttress to contain the corner of the transept, opposite the tower. Under the transept wall there is a large cistern, which means that water was withdrawn through the church until the 15th century for domestic use until 1595, when it was adapted to be used from the street. It consists of a single nave with a semicircular absude and a spacious transept whose transverse nave is very short but wider than the main nave, which was left unfinished. The presbytery measures 1.40 meters high. The main altarpiece, in Baroque style and of good carving, was built between 1749 and 1960 by Cecilio Franco Roldan. Externally it presents an architecture of carved ashlars. Although initially this temple was made with the idea of being a grandiose work, it ended up being a poor and unfinished temple, not only the main body but also its Tower to which a body of bells was added. Tower that, due to the inclination of the terrain, also has its curious construction.

According to some chronicles of the time, the temple was planned to be larger but due to various vicissitudes it was left halfway. It was built on a previous church that in turn was a mosque during the Arab period, the current building responding to Renaissance details. Already in the 21st century it was restored by a local employment workshop and with the collaboration of Cajasur. Among other elements worth highlighting are the altarpiece, the baptismal font and the images of the titular Santiago Apóstol and a Dolorosa.
