We had a wonderful time with the Kamihis family and other visitors. They are truly authentic people and it made the experience genuine. We made bread, filo pastry, watched cheese making, milked the goats, fed the animals, ate a very hearty, generous and tasty lunch, and finished off with merry traditional dancing. We appreciated how engaging they were and our young daughter absolutely loved the experience. Thank you for making such a great mark in our holiday memories!
We stayed for one night in "the tent" – a small enclosed area with a tiny pool and a tent featuring a bed, nestled among carob trees. The setting is beautiful and quite unique, and we really enjoyed the concept and the natural surroundings. There are no places to buy food on-site and only breakfast is served, so it's important to plan meals in advance. Unfortunately, in the morning, we discovered a wasp nest inside the tent. A swarm of wasps attacked us and my wife was stung. This unexpected incident disrupted our morning and made it impossible to enjoy the space during the day. We try to inform the host about it but she wasnt available for a long time, later apologized but didn’t seem to take the issue seriously at all. Breakfast, although expensive, didn’t meet our expectations – the food wasn’t as fresh as we had hoped, especially for a farm setting. In summary: the atmosphere and concept are special, but the wasp nest and the service significantly impacted our overall experience. the price is too expensive for what you receive
Overall we enjoyed our experience but agree with some other reviewers that we didn’t really get the “farm experience” that others have gotten. It may be because we were just a couple (not a group) and it’s shoulder season (October) but we didn’t see the owners apart from when we arrived. It’s beautiful and quiet. We had some fun hiking, seeing their animals, and going to the local village Zaro. However we weren’t offered any “farm experiences”. The beds were uncomfortably hard but the rooms were otherwise very nice.
Great experience, we found it online and arrived without a reservation. Mikhailis took care of us, showed us both the rooms and the "tent" option. In the end we chose the tent. It is about 50m from the building with the rooms. He showed us around the farm, the interaction with the animals was great, we cradled a baby goat, tried to milk a goat. Fresh air, calm and sounds of nature. Breakfast can be ordered, it was waiting for us outside the door in the morning, rich, sufficient including coffee. Thank you for the great stay.
Well, what do I say. Michalis and Valina were so welcoming. Very warm and inviting. The room was fantastic. It was very clean. There is no electricity except to charge the phone but this was part of the whole experience. They suggested a restaurant in town. If you go, bring an empty stomach. It worh it. The breakfast in the morning is delivered to your room. It is amazing. It is worth the trip.
We’ve visited Greece many times and taken part in many excursions, but Kamihis Farm House was by far the most memorable and authentic experience of them all! From the moment we arrived, the Kamihis family made us feel completely at home—like we were part of their family. Their warmth, hospitality, and genuine love for what they do really shines through in every detail. The day was filled with amazing activities: we learned about their traditional way of life, saw how they work the farm, and even took part in some hands-on experiences. It was such a unique way to understand Greek culture beyond the usual tourist spots. The food was absolutely outstanding—fresh, homemade, and full of flavor. Every dish was prepared with love, using ingredients straight from their farm. Truly farm-to-table at its best! They spoke fantastic English, which made the entire experience easy and enjoyable. We also had great conversations and learned so much about their traditions and family history. We will 100% be coming back the next time we visit Crete. If you want an authentic, heartwarming, and unforgettable experience in Greece, Kamihis Farm House is a must!
A guest house with rooms to stay, but Not a Farm Experience We booked this place expecting to stay at a traditional farmhouse with a family, discover their daily farm life, and join activities. In reality, the family does not live here and the farmhouse is just rooms to rent. Apart from being allowed to visit the nearby stable where you can feed the goats, no real experiences were offered. We were even willing to pay extra for a workshop, but were never offered any options. When we saw them welcoming groups and doing activities we asked if there is an activity we could join but got refused as they were private groups. Lovely house and amazing night sky, but not the immersive farm stay we came for. Pros: • Beautiful, traditional house • Quiet nature location • Amazing night sky Cons: • Bathroom and toilet are open in the room (not shown online) • No family presence or daily farm life participation possible • No Farm activities/workshops • Last Kilometers Are a dirt Road (not all car rentals allow this)
We loved the rustic vibe of the place, yet is very well taken care of and clean. It’s very cozy, peaceful and we had an amazing time.

Lake

The lake in November is a whole new vibe. The autumn colours created the perfect ambience. It was so gorgeous. You can walk around the lake and take awesome shots from different angles. There is a path by the lake that goes up and from there you can go to Rouvas Gorge and a monastery that is in the mountains. Follow me on IG @simply_me_traveling for more photos and videos on Crete
Ideal excursion place, especially if you have kids! There are a few picnic tables and plenty of space on the grass so you can bring your own drinks and snacks along with a ball to play with! There is a tavern and a cafe as well that offer decent options. You can walk around the lake or climb up the path leading you to the forest of Rouvas, warning it is not an easy trail.
Beautiful place to xisit and have coffee or lunch just near by the lake!!! Awesome view!!!
Zaros lake is one of my most favorite places in Crete, I just love the nature there.
Small lake with fish fauna, there is a short circular path alongside the lake, from there is possible to see a sunken boat and also some geese. The only critical point are the many bees and wasps
Very nice place. You can visit this place all year around. It is suitable for children. There are no activities like sailing but it is a nice place to walk relax and have a coffee or snack.
A 💎 hidden between mountains
Beautiful and romantic place, ideal for couples and families!!!

We had a warm welcome from the owner, who showed us around the olive factory. We tasted the local olive oil, which has a great taste, much better than we are used to from home. We bought some olive oils for the family, plus some eucalyptus essential oil for the sauna. All from the region. Great experience and very friendly owner. You should definitely check it out.😃
We really enjoyed our stop here and left with loads of delicious goods. The owner was very welcoming, took a lot of time chatting with us, and made us feel right at home. Highly recommend!
You will never find a more humble, grateful man than the owner of this olive oil factory. He's passionate about his craft and carefully explains the origins and process of his products. The products in his shop are priced at an extremely affordable level, yet he still bestows you with ample gifts and lets you taste a variety of his products, including olives, olive oil and fresh oregano. Worth the effort to go to Zaros and meet this incredible man, you will not regret it.
The Owner is very welcomming. Shop is small but has a lot of nice local products (olive oil, herbs, olive pasta, carob syrup, ether oils and many more) Strongly recommended - worth to visit.
Super friendly owner, great quality products! Definitely recommend to pick up some green olive oil and other local products to take home with you. Lavendel Essential oil has been great for sleeping.
The owner was very kind, he gave us a warm welcome with a taste of all his products. He explained us the process to produce oil. All products (olives, oil, olives paste) are delicious and we bought al of them. He also gave us some presents! I highly recommend to stop by if you are in the area! Again, very good products and very kind people working there!!!!
Authentic cretan products! Real olive oil, hand made, healthy carob and carob syrup, orange marmalade is the best I have ever tryied! Welcome everyone! Lovely place! Real olive oil - the best in the world!!! The best place! Nikos Doulgerakis is the kindnest person in the world!
Very nice olive farm where you can buy local product of great quality (olive oil, essential oils, herbs, soaps, fruit jams and marmelades, olive tapenade etc.). We were welcomed by its owner, good to taste their delicious products and had agreat time. Thank you!:-)

Restaurant

Such an incredible find! After a long hike in the Gorge, I stopped at this restaurant, which provided one of my favorite meals in Greece. True home style cooking—it was like Mama Vivi was making you her authentic Greek food with fresh local ingredients. I was given the daily special, which had so many courses, it felt like the food just kept coming. Everything was delicious, fresh, and such an incredible deal. The couple who ran the restaurant made me feel like family, and I cannot recommend a visit highly enough. I hope to be back
Fantastic set-menu restaurant with amazing service and food! 15€ per person (we were there as a couple)includes house wine, 2 appetizer salads, one cabbage/greek salad, rice- stuffed peppers and flowers, stewed beef, moussaka, desert, and a shot of raki. I think the menu changes from time to time. Would recommend getting there before 9pm- we saw some people turned away after that. A great experience not to miss in Zaros! Tastes like home-made dinner.
Home made traditional cretan food. You have this family run restaurant where is no menu is 14euro set menu and they bring you food until you explode. The set menu including 1/4 carafe wine and dessert.
We came there after a very nice walk in the rouvas's gorges. Even though we arrived at 14h30, we were warmly welcomed with fresh water and a big smile. We ate some absolutely delicious greek food from moussaka to some tomato meatbalss. Here you dont have a menu. You just need to say that you want to eat you'll be served. We payed 50 euros for a lot of good food and drinks. I'd absolutely recommend to take the coffee that the owner is offering. It was wonderful i highly reccomend.
I booked a table and asked for vegan food (or nistissimo if you like) when I arrived it was already prepared and they served me a variousity of meze vegan food. It was so good and just perfekt. The owner lady was super nice and honest when I asked about where the food comes from. The ambience is very nice but if you like to sit outside the street is very busy and the cars are constantly honking, because there's a cafenio on the opposite side and they all know each other (of course) 😂
Super friendly service and come hungry! A four course lunch for two people for €25 - soup, vegetable salads, veggie moussaka, and a plate of meat and salad for the omnivore. We declined the yoghurt based pudding but I was persuaded to have a spoonful.
One of the best memories of my Cretan holiday. If you are looking for a place where you can feel at home, like having dinner at your grandmother's, then Vegera is the place. And just like when you go to your grandmother's, you don't choose the menu, you eat what's there, because you already know it's going to be great. That's how it is here: you sit down and a series of simply and traditionally made Greek dishes start arriving, such as tzatziki, aubergines in oil, bean soup, moussaka, tomato salad, sausages with potatoes, baked chicken, stuffed courgette, dessert, melon, Greek coffee, red wine, sparkling water and cinnamon liqueur, and maybe I have forgotten something. And at the end, almost incredulously, I find myself with a bill for 15 Euros!!! Not only if you pass through Crete, but if you even come there on holiday, find the time and the way to come to “Grandma Vegera”.
I still dream of the Moussaka 🥰 Kindest people I met and best food in our two weeks of travelling in Crete 🍲
