It’s not easy way to go down. Especially if you have a rental car 🤣 its reaaaally steep so watch not to burn your breaks 🔥❕ But it is soooo worth it ! 🤩🤩 one of the most amazing places I’ve seen Also bring your swim suit cuz there is this naturall pool you can swim in if ocean is too rough 👍🏾
"Rock village" or "village under the cliff" which is definitely worth to visit. The place like this is unique. To get here by car up to lowest parking lot requires bravery & driving skills;) Road is sometimes rought but very very steep! Offroad car is not neccessary but good breaks and skills for sure;)))
Amazing place. The road down to the car park is a bit scary though..I definitely wouldn't do it in the wet. Worth the trip
Not an easy drive to get to but is definitely worth a visit. The place is incredible and unique. The sea and waves were amazing to watch and an incredible backdrop for photos.
Poris de Candelaria is one of La Palma’s best-kept secrets. Hidden on the island’s rugged northwest coast near Tijarafe, this stunning cove was once a pirate hideout—and today feels like a mythical retreat where nature and history embrace. Carved into a dramatic cliffside and protected by a massive cave-like overhang, a handful of whitewashed fishermen’s houses seem to cling to the rocks above the Atlantic. The turquoise sea crashes below, and the entire scene feels like a living postcard. The spot is steeped in history—used by locals for centuries as a refuge from storms and pirates, this “poris” (natural harbor) became a summer retreat for Tijarafe families. Some houses are still used seasonally today. How to get there: • From Tijarafe, follow the narrow, steep, and winding road down toward the coast. It’s a mix of paved and dirt sections (drive with care—some turns are tight and exposed). • The final stretch must be done on foot (about 10–15 minutes walking), but the views are spectacular all the way. • Parking is limited near the trailhead, so arrive early or off-peak. • Wear good shoes and bring water—there are no services in the cove. Best time to visit: Early morning or late afternoon for the best light (and fewer people). The sea can be rough—so swimming is only advisable when conditions are calm.
One of the most unique landscapes I have ever seen, truly worth it. Don’t be frightened by the alarming reviews about the road. The route does have some sections that are a bit tricky due to slope and road surface, but by driving cautiously and with a minimum of skill in handling the clutch (in case of manual transmission), it can be traveled without major issues. It is highly recommended to use a car that isn’t too low to the ground and that has at some engine traction.
A beautiful place, great for a nice swim and a bit of sunbathing. Quite a few people when we were there but not crowded, even though there was a fiesta. Since we didn’t have a car, we hitchhiked for some part of the way. From the parking spot it’s a relatively short way down to the sea.
Such an amazing experience to spend some time in this unique place. Easy walk from the car park but you must remember to drive only if you have skills and good car, better if not fully loaded as the road is very very steep and there is not many passing areas. No dogs allowed, no public toilets and good swimming experience but only if you have a good level and the ocean is calm.

Simply incredible! Its relatively easy to get to it. You do have to have intermediate driving skills to get to the parking lot and you do have to walk down like 15 - 20 minutes from there, but if you ask me, the road is not hard at all. There are not many people at the beach, its intimate and its worth to get there. I highly recommend this to people who want to avoid crowds and who don’t mind hiking a little to get there and back
Beautiful beach, small. Hike included. Noth hard one but you should be a bit in shape. It was around 25 mins down and 30 mins up. Great view. Not crowded. Easy to park your car. Road to parking lot is bit funny
The way to get to the parking spot alone is challenging. Make sure you know the car and have good brakes. If a flatbed truck wants to pass you not a lot of spots to safely do so. The parking area though has quite a few spaces. Then you’re in for an equally demanding hike down to playa de la veta and mind you the way up again. If you don’t like steep and narrow cliffs then you might want to go elsewhere on the island. The reward is probably one of the most mesmerizing beaches on earth. There are also and to my amazement quite an array of sophisticated "beach huts/hideaways, complete with solar powered setups and some nicely tended gardens. A word of caution on my trip down when I entered the beach I was greeted by 4 male enthusiasts which on the one hand I don’t mind but on the other still don’t fathom why people shove their preferences on others without consent… anyway be sure to make the effort still the views are breathtaking.
Delightful beach but a steep but perfectly safe walk down(20mins) Sensible footwear for the walk down as some parts might be tricky for some. No vendors at the beach, so bring whatever you might need including shade, water etc.
Fantastic, beautiful beach by the cliffs! Breathtaking views and very few people. The drive to the parking isn’t easiest so wouldn’t recommend for people who don’t feel very comfortable driving on steep and narrow roads. There’s a nice walk from the parking to the beach itself (20-30mins, taking into account stopping a couple of times to take in the scenery cause it was so great!). Not sure why some people comment it’s such a tough walk - you do walk uphill on your way back but I’d say for anyone who’s not a couch potato a 20min hike on a trail is doable and most of all worth this amazing experience so 🤷‍♀️ Would recommend having comfortable shoes though because it’s not paved.
Cute little beach in a little cliffside ‘town’. The path downwards is doable. The path upwards is killing. Especially when you don’t have water. Furthermore, the road to the parking lot is ultimately dangerous. Almost no places to turn or to let another car pass. Keep hoping on no counter traffic. Downwards was tricky, but upwards was even more challenging and scary with a C3. Don’t recommend this beach, Playa Nogales is prettier and easier to access.
Amazing view. Be careful with driving. 20 mins from parking spot but the hiking is going alone the amazing view
Very quiet and magic place. Walking 20min from parking is worth it. Not recommended driving in dark. Swimming can be difficult depending on the wind/waves.

Participating to this 4h and so permaculture workshop/guided visit was a great way for me to get in touch with the values, priorities and conditions to create a healthy and thriving food forest. What a chance to be able to visit this beautiful project. I've got really inspired by all the insights I've got there. I am very grateful having met Barbara and Erich who were both really interesting to listen, helpful and generous into the knowledge they shared with us.
Me and my girlfriend visited Autarca in January and had a fantastic experience. Erich and Barbara were super friendly and explained everything with a lot of passion and detail. Highly recommend if you're on the island and into gardening, permaculture especially! Thanks, Tim & Alina
We visited the paradise garden of AUTarcaMatricultura in March‘23 and got a tour with a small group through all of the special permaculture treasures an the whole forest garden. Worm farm, natural gas for cooking, parabolic cooker, heating walls, compost toilet and many other elements, perfectly explained from Barbara and Erich. We enjoyed every minute listening and exploring their project. Many thanks and keep on the great work and spreading the wisdom of permaculture! Silvia&Patricia
Beautiful and inspiring place to visit! Getting to know the permaculture in a very nice way. I would recommend the guided tour to get well informed inspired and maybe our own permaculture adventure!
:) Thank you for the very quick tour and insights into your Solar Panel setup and hints for selecting lead acid batteries for longevity in storage cycling. Your program and school grounds for permaculture are lovely. The quick insights given as well for your toilet systems were also very helpful. We do hope that you continued success to bring your Swiss engineering, architecture and innovation in permaculture and off-grid living to a greater audience. Especially hopeful your able to inspire the Canarian Government to adopt and install accessible and sustainable toilets throughout the parks and beaches of every island. Thank you for the quick tour and clear, simple demonstrations of working off-grid products and permaculture practices. Truly inspiring :)
The best insight of a professional permaculture project in La Palma. Amazing owners, full living experience and philosophy of permaculture.
Greate guide and very nice little museum!
(Translated by Google) It is an oasis that radiates hope. Erich and Barbara guided us through their life's work with full conviction, which only leaves us amazed at the power and diversity of nature. Here, possibilities are tested that make everything, every “weed” and every waste appear valuable. We will continue to draw on this lesson about the mutually reinforcing forces of our earth for a long time to come. Thank you! Vielen Dank!
