Tours detailing history and whisky production of Islay's oldest distillery, plus tasting sessions.

Rob was our guide. He also doubled up as our bar tender, sales person and everything. Rob does everything. Hahahaha Bowmore distillery... u got to treasure this lad. The whisky tour by rob was so informative and sincere. It made us feel so at home and comfortable. Really enjoyed the whole experience.
The oldest running distillery on Islay (1779.) I recommend a tour with tasting: they will show you all stages of whisky making: from barley germination (where you can actually use their tools to manually turn the barley) to the distilling and storage. The first part of the tasting takes place in the historical warehouse. If you are doing a whiskey trip - try to book the Bowmore cottages right next to the distillery. Highly recommend.
We booked a private event that included the Cask Discovery Warehouse Tasting with Megan, and it was a memorable visit. She was an excellent guide who adjusted the experience to our level of whisky knowledge, making it feel personal and relaxed. The highlight was tasting three different 19-year-old whiskies drawn straight from the cask. Each had its own character and quality you won’t find elsewhere, and sampling them straight from the barrel made it even more special. The bar was another great part of the visit. Their welcome dram is the 19-year-old Festival Release, which is a generous way to start, and we appreciated being able to explore additional drams afterward. Overall, Bowmore offers a well-rounded experience that feels thoughtful, unique, and worth seeking out when visiting Islay.
Second time visiting Islay. This time we chose to book a stay at the Bowmore distillery. 10/10 recommend! Wonderful hospitality and amazing amenities. Right in front of the bay, and walking distance to so many things. We recommend taking an evening walk on the trail behind the distillery that loops back up behind the school.
We did the Warehouse tasting today and we can honestly say ... after visiting more than 100 distilleries, doing countless tastings and experiences, this was one of the best we ever had. Tour guide Lynn is very professional and passionate about whisky and Bowmore. She adds a lot of fun in the tastings and treats her customers with total dedication ... Bowmore, if you're reading this ... give this lady a big raise !!!
We had an amazing visit with Evie in the historic #1 Vaults. The whiskey was amazing. And Evie’s passion for the community, island and whiskies gave us a glimpse into the soul of the place. Great visit!
Fabulous tour. So informative and friendly. Four generous free drams including two straight from the cask. One of the best distillery tours we've been on
Beautiful distillery with a very informative and enjoyable tour. The tour guide was interesting and the distillery is gorgeous. She showed us all aspects of the whisky making process from the barley room to the smoking room. The tastings were varied and the final tasting was in their restaurant area where they even served us chocolates! Nice touch! This was one of my favorite distillery tours and I went to many!

Had a lovely time on the Isle of Islay. Beautiful island, and lovely people. We went to the tourist office in Bowmore, and the lady in there named Judith was incredibly helpful, and gave us plenty of things to do during our visit. I would highly recommend visiting here if you’re planning a trip to Islay, as the staff are very helpful, and told us information we wouldn’t have known otherwise.
Wonderful ladies 🥰who were very helpful😊 was lovely meeting you both I passed through with my friend who is currently walking the 1200 miles of coastline of United Kingdom for RNLI
Very rude and unwelcoming lady behind the counter. Not the best representation of local hospitality. Nice maps on the wall.
Very helpful friendly staff
Nice point for helping the tourists

Several years ago I spent a wonderful holiday on Islay (pronounced "I - luh" by its residents). And the Round Church is fascinating. I asked someone why it was built round and was told "Because the devil lurks in corners!"
I suspect the real name of this church is the Kilarrow Parish Church since that's what it said on the sign at the door. It was looking at this church that I was told a story about why it is round. It is so the devil has no corner to hide in.
Kilarrow Parish Church is, along with the town's Distillery the most notable sight in Bowmore. Reputedly the church is round so that there were no corners for the devil to hide in. The whole village is typical of an 18C "improvement" planned village and, while picturesque- even on a cloudy day - it also should be remembered that these "improvements" were an aspect of the clearances and the systematic de-gaelecisation of the highlands and islands following Culloden. Bowmore ( Big Bend) replaced the old settlement of Cill an Rubha or Kilarrow (Monastery on the Headland) now only remembered in the name of the church (completed in 1770). The interior of the church contains a memorial to Donald Caskie also known as the Tartan PImpernel who assisted in the escape of around 2000 Allied personnel into Spain during WW2.
Thoroughly enjoyed the church service and the friendly and warm fellowship that we experienced. We worship here every time we visit Islay. Well worth the visit!
It's small and nice to look at while there but don't make a special trip
Very interesting building sitting high above the Village of Bowmore with commanding view down the main street to the Harbour.
A unique and well looked after church. The inside showed the structure off really well.
Very interesting building and unusual. Worth a visit.
