A complete tour of this museum provides you with an overview of the history of bathing culture. You begin with the best preserved public Roman thermae north of the Alps. Then the tour continues to the public bathhouses where you can learn about personal hygiene in medieval times. From there you go on to the first toilets and washbasins where you also become acquainted with some eccentric innovations such as bathing boats or the "rocking bathtub". Finally, you will find out about present forms of bathing and explore questions of modern water consumption. THE BUILDING The remains of these Roman baths were excavated during the 1930s. After their unearthing they became part of a small museum of local history (‘Propsteimuseum’) and could be visited by small groups. They were not very well known until 1997, when the local historical society decided to rethink the overall concept and settled on building a new museum. The museum opened in 2008. The new building was designed by Markus Ernst from Zülpich. Its concept caters to all the modern functional demands of a cutting edge public exhibition space while preserving and clearly displaying the historical substance. THE THERMAE IN ZÜLPICH As the name "Römerthermen Zülpich – Museum of Bathing Culture" suggests, the well-preserved ruins of the Roman baths form the centrepiece of the present museum. Built first in the 2nd century AD, the core structures of the thermae experienced a long history of modification and expansion until they went out of use and were changed into living quarters during the second half of the 4th century AD. Tolbiacum, as Zülpich was called in Roman times, was a small town (vicus) belonging to the area of Cologne but was situated at the crossings of various major roads which connected Cologne, Bonn and Treves. ARCHITECTURAL REMAINS The architectural remains which are still visible today show all important features characteristic for Roman baths. The rooms included a cold room (frigidarium), one or more room(s) of moderate temperature (tepidarium), a hot room (caldarium) and, in one phase, a sweat room (sudatorium). Most of the rooms were supplied with one or more bathing tubs containing water of a temperature corresponding to the surrounding room temperature. You may examine in detail the typical floor heating system (hypocaustum), the different types of rooms needed for typical Roman thermae and the complexity of their water system. The display cases contain many objects, including cosmetics and medical instruments which demonstrate the variety of activities carried out in the baths.
Nice little museum explaining the history of Roman bathing with preserved ruins of Roman baths. Very interesting for adults and kids (ours aged 10 to 14). The displays are in German but audio guides are available in English and other languages. Staff at reception was friendly and welcoming.
Very interesting museum
Amazing and interesting museum in situ Roman Baths. The history of bathing is presented in an amusing way.
nice exhibition on Roman and other bathing cultures. very nice photo gallery with eifel pictures
the museum provides an overview of bathing culture from Roman times north of the Alps, through medieval bathhouses to present forms of bathing, and water consumption. Entertaining, educational and inspiring.
We visited whilst on our holidays and there was only one other visitor there but we had the guide following ys around and made us feel uncomfortable. We understood that she needed to be with us but it was uncomfortable

Nice place and especially for families good. Daily fair for 2 adults and 3 kids only 14 Euro. Water playground awesome. Beach and recreation field are excellent. It is worth for a daily trip with whole family.
6Euro for adults is not really inexpensive but you get a lot of things; outdoor gym park, Gelato vehicle, clean toilets and changing rooms, and a lot of toys for children's. But the water is really dirty, there aren't better lakes in Germany.
Nice place bring lose change for the parking meter thow. 1€ per hr
We visited this park on the 16th of October during a "Herbst Fest". You had to buy an entry ticket to get inside, but you had to basically pay to do anything inside as well: trampoline, carousel, bouncing Castle...the lot. Prices were in the high end (6 euro for 3 minutes on a trampoline). People were waiting in long lines for everything. Staff was not helpful but rather they gave the impression they want to get rid of you. Overall not a plesant experience
A very disappointing trip. After almost an hour drive we came to an almost empty parking last thursday. We wanted to do the flying fox park but it was closed, according to the (very bored) woman at the ticket office told me it was closed ‘because the holiday season was over’. Well excuse me for wanting to visit in AUGUST! In my opinion that’s still summer season. Website does mention its only open on fr-sat-sun but only if you click and click on, so not very well communicated from their end. The only activity we could do was minigolf, where we eventually paid 13,50 EUR for (golf + entrance to the park). All bars and restaurants were closed as well. We left quite disappointed after an hour. Never coming back again.
Very long wait, but once inside it was not crowded as I thought it will be. Interesting attractions for the kids to spend a day. In the summer, as I understand, you can even swim in the lake.
Nice place to relax, no crowds and clean, worth a visit. I went with my family lots to do for the kids. Great spot 👍

Nice ambience, chill place for windsurfing. It's fine to bring kids, but it's a better place for adults. For kids, go next-door to the Seepark.
Nice service and a relaxed atmosphere 😎
