The chapel itself is being renovated at the moment but the scale of the French cemetery is something to behold and very sobering. Across the road there is a British cemetery in the field with 83 buried there. A lasting reminder of the indelible marks that The Great War had on this landscape and families around Britain and Europe. The way that the cemetery is just THERE behind a house in an unassuming plot of land with the field ploughed right up to the walls of it mark it as just "part of the furniture" of the landscape but also a constant reminder of the horrors that the Somme has seen. Never forgotten.
Amazing, I got lucky as I was the only one there, the guide was so good, she feels the emotion everyday she's there, she took me into the chapel and I got a personal one to one talk about the Cemetery, please visit the tiny British Cementry on the other side of the road, we'll worth the trip, I was just passing by and stopped, brilliant .
A friendly custodian came out to show us around the chapel. The site has interesting differences from the Commonwealth cemeteries.
It is a very moving and interesting chapel, plus the two cemeteries
Amazing place. Certainly brings it home what those boys went through so many years ago...so brave
What can you say? A very moving place.
