Romantic ruins of an 11th-century Cathar castle perched on a crag with scenic views to the coast.

Great place to visit with a beautiful panorama from the castle walls. Short hike from the place where you buy tickets to the castle that could be challenging for people with limited mobility. The castle is definitely not wheelchair accessible. If you don’t have accessibility issues, this is a place that you must visit if you’re in the area.
Easy drive up to the car park. There is a lot more castle than what you see from below. Stunning views.
It is a difficult walk in the heat but the castle is beautiful. There are great views and the option of an audio guide you can get at the office near the car park. The castle was quiet and very pretty to see the wildlife which has taken over and the sound of birds. Would recommend but maybe on a cooler day :)
The hikes (there are two, one to the fortress and another to the chapel) are steep and beautiful. Hiking shoes are recommended for good reason. The views are spectacular. The history is fascinating, but you'll want to find it online or through an audio or individual guide. Take water.
It’s one of the 5 ‘sons of Carcassonne’ - the great ancient castles near the amazing city. This one is in the best condition and is at the most height within its ‘brothers’. Very interesting place to have a look.
Ah nice little historical tourist trap. The drive up is a workout for your car and bike. make sure your cooling works. Its a ruin and cost 7 euro to enter. After entering its about a 1.5km hike on a small rocky path which i don't think is suitable for people with knee or health issues.
Small hiking trail to the start of the castle (15min). And then did the whole of the location in about 1h15. Superb views with lots of castle parts still intact
So many castles and so many views. This region is magical if you love history and nature. We walked from the gravel car park halfway back to town and it was hard work in the heat. Even the last part from the kiosk is quite a walk but well worth the effort. These are probably the best remains of any of the Cathar castles we have visited and one immense view after another. Mix this one with Queribus and a visit to Cucugnan for a fantastic day.

Amazing, a wiggley drive well worth the effort.
Winter and summer, nature in capital letters, a place of total disconnection, only use your smartphone for photos. The "Parking" facilities and installation should be improved. A management of tourist flows would be a plus to preserve this magnificent setting 🏞️🍀🌳🌼
Not easy to find following Google maps. Coming out of cucugnan towards peypertuse, there is a small bridge. To the right just after is a road that leads down to a car park. Here there is a sign. I was worried it wouldn't be suitable for motorhomes but took a chance and it just about is. Up to 6m I would say. Anything over would struggle. Sign posting is very poor and I and many others clearly spent a lot of time wandering around wondering where everything is! Persevere it's worth it. From the car park, cross over the river using the stepping stones. Follow the path to the left, and go BEHIND the derelict building. Keep following the path and you will then find the fabulous swimming pools. Take some non slip beach shoes or waterproof hiking shoes if possible, some of the stones are very slippy.
Dichotomy ? Lovely, spend the day, take a pic-nic, walk the village trail 2 3/4 hour circuit) admire the dragon flies, admire the views, the fish, the scenery - it has it all. The rules are no swimming - the tourist info sites say visit the chateaux in the area then come here for a paddle in the cool water!! A little adventurous if you wish - you can try walking across natural stepping stones or jumping the narrow water ways. BE CAREFUL after heavy rain, the water levels can rise quickly. Great spot for children and grandparets alike.
Stunning place. Definitely worth the drive to. Water is like glass. A great place for a walk. Swim. And chill out.
Fantastic place to chill in the cool, clean mountain water. The views are amazing as well.
Kinda hard to find this place but it's a great place to swim and enjoy life with family and friends
It's a lovely spot to spend the day. Nice lake and lots of pools to cool off in. Car parking is 7 Euros and close to the lake. There is a nice circular walk that goes up the local town. Not recommended in the hieght of the Summer.
