Always a wonderful time at the Adega “a buraca”! We had a small group with no reservation and were greeted by a super friendly staff who spoke both English and Portuguese. We tried an assortment of liqueurs and aguardentes (traditional moonshines) and learned about some of the history of the island through the small museum. Each of us left with a few small souvenir bottles. A local family run business, and a great activity for anyone visiting the island.
It was very "off-season" but the staff was attentive and helpful. We appreciate the liquor tasting (excellent price for what you get), but thought the wine tasting was a bit pricey. The wines weren't for us... All were fairly acidic for our tastes and priced much higher than we would expect after tasting them. The liquors ranged from good to awful, depending on your palette. We didn't like some flavors that we expected to, and we liked a bunch that we didn't expect to, so step outside your comfort zone a little if you do the liquor tasting. You might be surprised. Fennel and catmint liqors were surprisingly good!
It was disgusting! 27€ per each for nothing! no presentation, no tour, water and cracker. Bottle of 10 years cost 69,90€, for 6 1/4 glass we paid 81€…… it takes 20 minutes, it doesnt worth! Dont spent time and money. The product is mediocre Update: They was call us and push!! What was work, to pour us wine? It is disrespectful to customers to justify the lack of service with mythical work. Museum doesnt interesting and has nothing to do with winemaking. We went to winery, we want to have see wine process. Its portugese normal behaviour instead of taking lesson and being thankful for free advise how to improve service to call my friend and push him? DONT RECOMMEND! If u dont like they will call u and push!
A super nice lady runs this place. We have gone twice now and had a great experience both times. They have a good selection of brandy (moonshine) and liqueur and good prices for bottles of all sizes to bring home as gifts or for yourself to remind you of being in the Azores. It's also neat that they have a museum and the decor in the tasting room is so nice. I especially love how they converted the giant barrel into a bar storage thing with shelves and doors.
We booked a wine tasting quite spontaneous. The tasting was amazing, it was way more than a tasting: we got to know a lot about living on an island, the Azores. We felt very welcomed, it was a pleasure to be there. The wine and liquor was tasty, so all around an amazing time! We would recommend it and come back any time.
Very friendly staff and great local food and own wines
Maybe worth a visit if you’re a “wine connaisseur” but otherwise, if you just enjoy wine like ‘normal’ people do - stay away. We had 2 sips of white wine for 19€ per person. We didn’t even get a proper explanation. The ‘tasting’ lasted 10 minutes. There’s a museum, but it’s got nothing to do with wine making. Personally I didn’t even like the wines - but that is very personal of course. I really don’t understand why this place is getting recommendations on some blogs … I would not recommend going here. Better buy a nice bottle of wine for 19 bucks in a supermarket and you’ll have a better experience
We tried some great wines and liquors. The staff was very friendly and gave us a little history through their small museum. The restaurant was closed. It was a good wine stop!
