Definitely one of the most beautiful and isolated beaches on southern Crete. The drive over from the west side is more challenging than from the East but either one should have a four-wheel drive vehicle. There are olive groves and other ag operations nearby but make sure to have enough water and keep in mind that you will be completely out of range of a mobile operator
About 200m south from the beach are larger rocks in the water which can be interesting to freedive and explore. You can get there if you walk down the slope before last bends on the road. There is an opening in the fence next to road. Gravel road from paved road is in some parts pretty bad. We left our car before the descent began and walked last kilometers. Very nice hike, very lonely and quiet, warmly suggested :)
Agia Irini beach is well off "the beaten track" and as such in unspoiled. It is a pebbly, not a sandy beach so it's really good for those who enjoy swimming, rather than sunbathing. The drive is quite a long one on unsurfaced road so a 4-wheel-drive or off-road-suitable vehicle is recommended, although I drove it in a regular budget hire car I wouldn't recommend this type of vehicle unless you have experience of dirt-road-driving in Crete. It took us around 45 minutes driving on the dirt road to get to the beach, and similar on the way back. It is quite windy and bumpy so passengers may end up feeling queasy. If you want an easy sandy beach holiday this isn't for you, but if you enjoy exploring and want to get away from the other tourists then this is worth a visit. The drive itself offers some impressive views, and the swimming / snorkeling once you arrive is excellent. There are caves in the cliffs to the side of the beach which can only be accessed from the water - if you decide to climb up into the caves to explore be aware they are home to some small biting insects and a number of bird or bat droppings - the water is a nicer place to be.
Don't go there if your car is not 4×4 because you have to climb up on the way back and the 'road' is bad, not asphalt, car slips down with a handbrake even if you have not much experience and car hasn't enough power. Actually there is nothing to see :mini pebble beach and canyon with caves. But all this bad way doesn't worth it! Very disappointing.
A small bay with pebbles and clear blue water. Great for underwater diving and isolated, since you need to drive down a 30-minute route with a jeep or similar car in order to access it. It is a fishermen's spot, do not try to go if you are not an experienced offroad driver and if you do not own a 4x4. If you do, you will be rewarded.
(Translated by Google) Magnificent wild pebble cove! The water is translucent, lots of fish of all colors, a truly wonderful place BUT access via the "road" is chaotic, the path from the main road is more than 8km long and is in very poor condition, I would only recommend it for tall or 4*4 type vehicles.
(Translated by Google) The best place in the world, No doubt. We did the shepherds' route which starts from Paralia Amatos. 2.5 km of impervious path between the mountains overlooking the sea, fantastic experience! (Original) The best place in the world, No doubt. Abbiamo fatto il percorso dei pastori che parte da Paralia Amatos. 2,5 km di sentiero impervio tra le montagne a strapiombo sul mare, esperienza fantastica!
(Translated by Google) Very small beach with pebbles, between Atherinolakos and Xerokampos. In the canyon on the right and left there are many caves. The road is a dirt road, 4x4 is recommended. It starts high from Zero. A suggestion for the very daring.
