Our party-of-5 adult visitors to Central California (from U.S. Midwest & the UK) headed to Asilomar State Beach after a late dinner in Monterey, to see an awesome late June sunset under clear skies. We arrived approx. 20 minutes before sundown, and the roadside parking slots along Sunset Drive were filling up fast. But we luckily found a spot to tuck in, then took a short walk to a beach access point. We were all very pleased to see the beautiful sunset over the Pacific waves on a very clean beach with soft sand, and it's a sight we will all remember for a long time. I'd recommend arriving @ Asilomar SB about an hour prior to sunset and put a blanket down close to the surf line, as late comers seem prone to standing & blocking the sightlines of people who set up to watch the show from viewpoints closer to the road.
It was a fun stop. The water crashes here so the sound is wonderful. That being said the waves are really dark like dirt is in them. There are better beaches around Monterey Bay but is was still fun.
We love this beach/trail. It has been a different experience every time we visit Asilomar (depending on the season and the tides), but always good. Tidepools are available when tides are lower, but we see seals and sea otters when it's high. Such a beautiful place to spend some hours ☀️🌊🐚
I came to this beach specifically to watch the sunset and boy oh boy it did not disappoint! 🤩 I lucked out with convenient parking next to a staircase and a good spot on the beach. I would love to spend the whole day here … even enjoy a bonfire after sunset (which is allowed on one side of the beach).
Tide pools are amazing! 10/10 recommend for a stop to see the miniature crabs in the tide pools!
A great beach! Plenty of sand, big waves, and tide pools.
So beautiful. So much sea life to see and cool tide pool type areas to see.
This beach walk was beautiful! The road is busy but once you’re on the trail it’s very safe. There are several social trails and beach access points so it never felt overcrowded even when there were lots of people out enjoying the trails. Great for dog walks, people walks, running and photos.

Had very low expectations but it was a very entertaining park. Next to the lovers Point Rock there's ton of squirrels and seagulls and they seem to be very used to humans so they're just playing around which is super fun to watch again. Next to the rocks there is a tide pool which creates a great opportunity to go and observe little hermit crabs and muscles and all kinds of sea creatures. There's a couple of snack and Cafe options around as well. Roll really lively nice park with nice views and slightly out of the ordinary entertainment
The view is beautiful. Sometimes you can see dolphins jumping around in the bay and having a good time. Definitely my favorite place to go tide pooling and the sand is really nice. It’s crushed granite instead of being a typical sandy feeling beach which appeals to me more.
My wife and I had a beautiful lunch at the park. But be warned there are lots of squirrels and seagulls hanging out looking for a free lunch. Luckily for us, we had one protecting us while we ate our lunch. And we did reward him for the protection. Other than that, a beautiful place to hang out and enjoy the scenery. Life is beautiful!
Loved the view on a beautiful clear day throughout Monterey/pacific Grove. If you get an opportunity to bring a bike or rent one It would be suggested for some great opportunities to see the area from a different perspective.
Lovers Point is a scenic spot with beautiful ocean views and a great place to take a walk or relax by the water. It does get pretty busy on weekends, but it’s still worth the stop. Keep an eye out for the adorable chipmunks running around - they’re everywhere and are fun to watch. The only downside is the lack of clean seating; there’s a lot of bird poop from the seagulls, so finding a clean bench or spot to sit can be tricky. Still, the views and chipmunks make it worth a visit.
Pacific Grove Marine Gardens Park, also known as Lovers Point, is a truly beautiful spot right by the ocean. The views of the coastline are stunning, and the atmosphere is calm and inviting, perfect for a walk, a picnic, or simply relaxing by the water. One of the most charming details is the presence of squirrels that live in the park — they’re fun to watch and add to the friendly, natural vibe of the place. It’s well maintained, family-friendly, and a wonderful stop if you’re exploring Pacific Grove or nearby Monterey.
I love lovers point one of my favorite spots to visit in Monterey County it's family friendly u can go in the water eat picnic out there rent bikes wet suits and boogie broads play volley ball and the most funniest thing I like doing is feeding the squirrels they are so cute and super friendly
This place is so beautiful and serene. Find your own peace and serenity and enjoy the natural beauty of the area which has both walking and biking trails, a picnic area and nice grassy area to lay out on and just soak in the sun! 🌞Also has a few different easy access points to get down to the beach and sand! 🏖 Perfect if you're by yourself or with loved ones or friends!! 😊😊🌊🫶🏻

Unfortunately, we visited prior to the arrival of the butterfly migration. With that said, it was still a very beautiful and peaceful place and we truly enjoyed our walk 🦋🦋
Place was nice and beautiful but the drive to get here was abit rough, having to go thru the town and small roads, i didnt care for it too much. We did see some deers which was nice. The Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary didnt have many butterflies yet. Saw a few flying but didnt see any clusters. I'd say wait a few more weeks then maybe go. Just know too that Hwy 1 is closed coming from Cambria up to Pacific Grove. I guess they still havent fixed a portion of the highway over 3yrs now so it was alot of drivng having to go all the way around. Giving everyone heads up just in case. Have a fabulous time!
Tony, behind the hotel. Saw only a few butterflies which was nice during what must've been the non-butterfly season. Not busy. Saw one deer grazing there too. LOTS of deer around the area as well. Weren't too skiddish. I definitely recommend going to this cute FREE sanctuary.
Butterfly peak season is Oct-Dec. The short trail through the sanctuary is very well maintained and has been updated recently due to severe storm damage from years past. Activity end of October 2025 was low. It is probably best to stop by during the early afternoon when the sun is out and the butterflies are awake and active. One public bathroom on site. Street parking is available on both entrances.
Nice place where monarchs stop naturally on their migration. There were professional photographers, knowledgeable folks with binoculars, and smart, friendly people willing to help us locate the monarchs and tell us all about them, but they were also visitors. I hope they plant more milk thistle to sustain the monarchs. The listing says it closes at 5pm, but they don’t actually close gates or anything like that. The butterflies just slow down for the day when it’s approaching sunset
Very small public park where Monarch Butterflies migrate to from October to February/March. The Monarchs are hard to find as they rest with their wings closed and blend in with the leaves. There were quite a few people at the park and one gentleman was especially helpful pointing out the Monarchs and teaching others how to spot them.
Beautiful...short hike to the butterflies 🦋 but we missed them this year
We didn't see a ton of butterflies but we did see a cluster in one tree. They have a lot of posted information boards where you can read about the butterflies.

What an amazing piece of history! So grateful to everyone who has preserved this beautiful place and it’s story over the years. Every person we met working here was so passionate, knowledgeable, and kind. You can tell they truly love what they do and are excited to share their joy. It was such a treat to explore the lighthouse and imagine what life would be like living there. We got to visit on a beautiful day and some people were even able to spot whales from the lookout in the lighthouse. Thank you to everyone who makes this place possible!
I had been looking forward to visiting Point Pinos Lighthouse for a while, and it did not disappoint! This historic lighthouse is a hidden gem with a rich history and beautiful coastal views. The entry fee is only $7 per person, which includes a tour of the lighthouse keeper’s quarters and fascinating insights into its past. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate about the history. Since the lighthouse has limited visiting days and hours, I recommend planning ahead. After the tour, you can take a short walk around the area and enjoy the stunning scenery. A must-visit for history and nature lovers!
Well worth the price of admission. Great staff, lots of history very well presented in the lighthouse, beautiful gardens & landscaping. My only disappointments were: (1) the public golf course surrounds the lighthouse property, and (2) you can only view the lamp through a Plexiglas barrier at the top of the upper staircase & in a mirror. But overall, Point Pinos Lighthouse is a must-see if you're interested in nautical history.
Absolutely phenomenal visit. The ticket lady left a whole lot to be desired. Definitely need someone that is friendly and welcoming .. didn't get that with her. But the volunteers inside providing the tour details were fantastic. Very informative and very happy to be of service. It was a beautiful lighthouse and I loved learning about the history of the lighthouse and Pacific Grove. The grounds were very well taken care of, tons of flowers, trees, informative plaques, and deer. Loved my visit, will be back again.
I love seeing lighthouses and was excited to visit the Point Pinos Lighthouse, but unfortunately they close at 3pm and we arrived around 3:12pm on a Sunday. I was hoping since it was after hours, we would be able to walk around the grounds, but unfortunately, the lighthouse is gated, so there was limited viewing of the lighthouse. There is a small parking lot on at the entrance on Alisonar Ave. Surrounding the lighthouse is the Pacific Grove Golf Links golf course. If you want to visit the lighthouse, make sure you come at their open hours (see my picture for hours and admission fees).
Had such a great time here. The lighthouse is available for ahowrt window, but it's worth it. There are restrooms available and a gift shop. The grounds are so beautiful and you can walk around. The lighthouse itself, you are able to go in and take a tour of the place. Lorrie, a volunteer on the 1st floor, gave us so much information and insight it was great to hear it all. Her husband was also volunteering and gave us information on the 2nd, and it was amazing to learn from them both. As we were leaving, there were deer sunbathing in the neighboring houses, great ending to a great experience.
Absolutely amazing and great volunteers to tell you all about the history. It is a must see for sure
Must visit..there is a line..waiting 10 minutes..to see around and explore takes 30 minutes...children will love this place.it has great history.

We were driving past and saw a huge whale so we decided to come inside and it did not disappoint! Generally not into museums but this made it a whole different experience. There was so many hands on activities that are even fun for young adults! The museum director was so kind and is doing a great job in always improving what i thought was near perfect! One thing that really stuck out to me was you could adopt a bird for a year and have your name posted by it!
We love this small museum! It has tons of things for small children to do from a playing area to finding a fossil in a rock pit. It was awesome to find out that they have special event on the last Saturday of the month. When I went it was free and there is a beautiful park across perfect for a picnic and it’s a small walk to the beach for longer visits.
This place in our 2500 mile road trip was special. We got in for free for being veterans and a special deal they had in the summer so that was awesome. The place is small and just outside of the tourist areas, but there is a beautiful park and a great Mexican resteraunt right next door. It is also just walking distance from the beach and another boardwalk park area with parking about The staff welcomed us and Bill talked to us and asked us where we were from and told us a little about some things we were looking at. Very friendly. The exhibit of the birds was very large and the interactive kids area was very artsy, decorative, and kids would love it. The sands of the world was also super unique and the microscope setup to look at different items was also unique! Great place
The museum is small, but the employees are engaging and informative. The museum is interactive and has plenty of cool hidden features for kids and adults alike. The $12 bucks was good for what we experienced... But the outside grounds was a disaster. My backyard looks better! It really can't be a part of the museum attraction, it's just a dirty mess!
My toddler totally loved it. As a Monterey county resident it was nice to learn about our community. I loved how everything is well organized. Every station had its own unique story. My son and I were there for about an hour. You might do two if you sit down and take your time reading every post. I think my son’s favorite part was the coloring and being able to see the live size taxidermy animals. My favorite part was the bird section and the upstairs. If you are visiting the area. It is a must see! Also, don't forget to pick something up from their gift shop section. We got some cool posters. Lastly, the gal at the front desk was very welcoming and informative. My son and I had a great time.
This little local hidden gem is a great place to see the animals, insects, sea life and things that are native to the area. A quiet and up close experience with many beautiful and well preserved animals, birds, insects and other artifacts from the history of the Monterey peninsula. A must see for the family!!
This was a great experience. It’s not too large or too small. Has a fun room with secret door— kids love it. Small outdoor garden. Large room with lots of stuffed birds.
SUMMARY: Overpriced, but great for kids. •Cons: In a place with as much to do as this peninsula offers, the price was overkill. Small square footage. •Pros: There are number of hands on exhibits that the kids loved. Even the infant had things for her level. Was hard to tear them away. One of the few museums we’ve done that maintained the children’s attention span. Many parts were captivating for young minds. Well worth it for them. Overpriced for the adult experience.

As a local, I find the Tin Cannery to be a joy. Lots of parking surrounding the building, historic photos of Cannery Row, places to eat, shop and local artist studios. Dog friendly, clean restrooms and close to everything. My husband and I often walk inside the American Tin Cannery. Probably a good time to visit before it changes! Great place to let the kids rest and unwind.
A little mall with stores peddling crap nobody wants with the exception of restaurant called awakenings. They were busy with line.
Nice area to spend some cash. Lots of different shops to explore. Just a beautiful area to spend the day or weekend.
Funny little stores around. Also nice before or after you go/were in the Aquarium 😊
Most stores closed during covid19. Looks like two eateries open here with outside dining.
Not very many shops open any more.
Most of the stores are gone. Apparently this is because of plans to build a hotel here, but I'm told that those plans may be stalled. The repurposed architecture is interesting, the remaining stores did have items of interest, there were some useful looking brochures, and the bathrooms were clean
Unfortunately there are not many people or businesses open here. But the shots that are open boat a multitude of items. The people are very friendly and help you out. Talk about being pampered and treated like a king. Great place to visit. The history is down on various plaques displayed about the mall. Also try Archie's burgers. Awesome burger s

Great location to look out into the bay. We come here several times a year. Very relaxing. Pack a windbreaker. Somedays are windy others are warm. We watch the sea otters diving and occasional sea lion swims by. It is usually very quiet in the morning.
We love going to the Monterey area, but we always park at the John Denver memorial section to watch the sea otters play. We enjoy feeding the squirrels and the birds as well. There is a great quiet beach there for the littles to play at.
"I loved climbing on the rocks and walking barefoot on the gravel paths here. The area is filled with friendly people and diversity. The well-manicured houses are a delightful and romantic addition for me and my date. There are plenty of places to sit and take in the ambiance of the region. I hope to come back for another visit."
Great place to visit. I would say bring a blanket and sit in the Sandy area. Or a nice Beach chair. This is one fantastic spot for watching the sunsets. And even find any occasional shell.
The weather was great, sun was shining although there a crisp breeze which made it slightly cool at times. This is an amazing venue to go walking around the perimeter, hike up on the rocks if you feel a little adventurous (watch out though they are a little slippery when wet), sit and read a book or just admire the scenery. It is calm and serene and a perfect relaxation spot.
Had to look for the right rock for quite awhile until I found it. Would have been nice if some rocks were laid out to make a better “path”. The sheer beauty of this location is amazing, and the simplicity of the memorial is on par with what John D would have appreciated. Would have made a great backdrop for a cool video.
The John Denver Memorial is a touching tribute to the legendary singer John Denver. His plane crashed in Monterey Bay on October 12, 1997. It's a solemn place to honor his legacy while taking in breathtaking ocean vistas. The memorial features a few benches for contemplation. No restroom. Small free parking lot.
Lover's point Pacific grove California. I love this beach and the walking trails. Beautiful Waves hitting the rocks. Pretty blue waters. The sunsets are Absolutely Gorgeous. I have been coming there for 50 yrs . This nature view could only be from Our God. Love love this place✌👊

This is a small but really nice farmer's market. I happened to be in the area on Monday at 3pm so I stopped. They had produce such as lettuce, kales, carrots, garlic, onions, mushrooms, oranges, lemons and other items like nuts, dried fruits, hummus, delicious adobo sauce, honey, pita bread, and a few food vendors cooking yummy smelling food such as pizza, Greek and Mexican foods. It sure is worth a stop if you're in the area.
Good, smallish farmers’ market. There are two strawberry sellers: one sells big strawberries and another sells small, puny strawberries. Don’t be put off by the small size as the smaller strawberries are absolutely the best tasting strawberries anywhere. Treat yourself!
It's small, but we got some of the most amazing strawberries and roasted almonds here. Will definitely try to go back next time we visit!
Amazing veggies. Beautiful displays!
This is such a nice event for the community every week! They had so many nice stalls with veggies, food, and other things as well. Cre's soul food is a must have, it was the best fried catfish I've had in a while but the collard greens were on another level!
We were able to go to the Farmers Market First Time Two Weeks Ago... It was so nice & getting organized w new procedures for Social Distancing ... All the Vendors I bought from were Great! Helpful and Calm... We were able to buzz through and head out the other side w everything on my list... Happy to Help Local Growers and put Farm Fresh Food on our Table!
Nice little Farmers market that we just happened across Monday evening about 15 mins before it closed. Vendors were still friendly and had some product left. Great organic produce and some food stalls too that had some tasty looking options.
Get my veggies and more here every week they are open. Really recommend the market, but I'm bias since I live less than a mile away. They have really fresh eggs, lots of local produce, and seasonal fruit that's top notch. Got my quince here to make my yearly membrillo and it's ridiculous. Thanks to everyone! See you Monday 😉

The Jameson Classic Motorcycle Museum is a hidden gem that every motorcycle enthusiast will adore. Despite its small size, the museum's collection packs a punch with a delightful assortment of vintage treasures. From a drag racing motorcycle to antique Harleys and even mini bikes, the diversity of bikes on display is truly impressive. Absolutely Charming! Vintage, antique, and simply beautiful merch. This is my favorite shoppe in P.G. I got the sweetest ornaments for my Christmas tree last year. Can’t wait to see what I’ll add this year!! If you’re into shabby chiq, or country Joanna Gains style this place is perfect. Variety and decent prices keep me coming back and it’s a treasure every time. 😊

Nice gallery with some paintings & creative art works I like!
An eclectic gathering of creativity. From ballet classes to figure drawing, ti the art hung on the walls, something for most everyone.
Incredible place, exhibits change about once a month, and there are a lot of different art classes offered throughout the week. You usually have to be a resident artist in order to have your work displayed.
Lovely space. Beautiful art!
Beautiful exhibit. Very impressed by the art by Eden Morillo...very talented young lady. Did you know she has been selected for a scholarship from the Weston Foundation for a piece of photography now on display at Monterey Mus of Art...the presentation is tonight .
We love this center! The PG art center has REAL art, not copies of the style of long-dead masters! It is housed in a multi-room very old former ballet studio. We have seen some wonderful unique and memorable pieces here including an AMAZING display of hand crafted jewelry. We recently had a lovely evening out here with dinner at the Red House followed by an Irish celebration performance in which the three performers played the harp, sang songs and told stories using every professional talent they possessed. It was marvelous! The best concert we've attended in a year, perhaps in a decade! This gallery is free to the public! Don't miss their "first Friday" openings. You won't be disappointed!!
Beautiful gallery. A lovely space for a memorial - I was hired privately to facilitate one. The art is stunning and the general ambiance is graceful, peaceful and vibrant all at the same time!
A wonderful community gem with a broad range of installations and shows that change regularly in the galleries, and artist studios surround the building with interesting windows, skylights and angles.

Friendly staff, very clean and has a wonderful reading area. Very nice children's library and alot of activities offered.
I was there today and I met this happy guy , but not your good happy and he kept looking at me funny and licking his lips said his name was dennis he said he had crabs in his pocket and wanted to know if he could share them.I won’t be going back
Needed a quite place to study. Library was quiet, clean and appeared well organized. Was greeted when I walked in👍🏽. The wooden chairs were not very comfortable and seemed short in relation to the wooden desks. Had plenty of plugs for charging electronic devices. Bathrooms were on the verge of immaculate. Never seen a public bathroom that clean.
why don't some library staff respect their own patrons who come to the library ? do you think you are superior ?
Nice library with lots of working space and comfortable reading chairs. Bathrooms are individual stalls leading to communal wash basin. Also had a water bottle refill station
Gardgener working late
Friendly and helpful staff. And a surprising number of youth books for a community on the older side. A neighborhood park is just to the side and the weekly farmer's market is held out front on Monday afternoons. The building itself is beautiful - light, bright and well designed.
Quiet, close to the ocean and historically interesting
