Airboat ride was a lot of fun and Captain Jack was wonderful. Felt very comfortable with him at the helm. He was very knowledgeable and had some great stories. The excursion was the best part. Ride was followed by an alligator show and the opportunity to hold a young alligator. There was also an area where you could view multiple gators. Felt as though some areas needed a little TLC. Gift shop had a lot of fun gator related items. Overall, had a fun and interesting time.

The tour itself was a lot of fun — riding through the swamp on an airboat with some nice sharp turns was a great experience. Unfortunately, we only saw one or two alligators. The driver was very knowledgeable about the area and clearly cared deeply about nature. What felt a bit contradictory, though, was the inclusion of alligator shows and where younger gators are brought out for petting. Their mouths were taped or tied shut (it was hard to tell which). During our visit, a young girl was allowed to hold an alligator, probably around 2 to 3 years old. It turned out to be heavier than she expected, and she accidentally dropped it — something that really shouldn't happen, in my opinion.

Part 1: Tony and I went on a Air Boat Ride at Wooten's off Rt 41 in the swamps of National Everglades! OurCapt was Clay and he did a fabulous job of showing us around the swamp and speeding through the Red Mangrove! We saw 3 Alligators total and one was about 12.5 feet long! Clay gave us some very valuable information about wildlife and the Ecosystem out in the swamp! Clay really made the trip and it was so nice that Tony Vanoy had a wonderful birthday present! Definitely highly recommend if your in the area!Ask for Capt Clay! Remember they work for tips! Only 4 people a our semi private boat adventure!

Had a great time. Opted for the private ride and just 2 of us. The captain was great and full of knowledge about the area. The animal park could use some help and painting. But we went for the airboat ride and it was great. The other stuff was extras.

Great first time airboat experience. We had a lot of fun and our captain was great… wish I could remember his name. Not many gators on our tour but that is comforting to know that it’s beyond their control. Customer service on the rest of their property was great as well. Getting to hold a small alligator was also very cool! Please please please wear any and all forms of mosquito repellent 😅

Good but underwhelming. Things I Loved: Airboat ride: Ride through the red mangroves is excellent. The area is peaceful and it's really amazing to glide via airboat through the narrow passages of the mangroves. 276 private acres of mangrove, adjacent to, but not part of the national park. The captain made sure it a fun ride-lot of turns that sprayed up water. Hearing protection: They provided earmuffs for hearing protection during the ride-air boat is extremely noisy. Holding juvenile alligators: Dutch, Jellybean, and Chompy were taken out of their container for us to after the "show" cool experience to get to hold an alligator. Things I would do differently: We did the extended combo tour. Having done it I would recommend the original tour which is cheaper. in terms of wildlife in the mangroves, 1 person saw one gar in the water and as a group we saw one bird which I think is a heron. The tour guide provides a little bit of history on how Wooten's was purchased and created, and the conflict with the national park and why they have white pipes is barriers and a little bit about the mangroves, but all of this could've been said in the 30 minute tour and we just rode around in the heat and sun a little bit longer. It was fun, but probably not worth the additional money. Skip the Swamp Buggy if it's an option -We were literally swarmed and attacked by mosquitoes (just part of the swamp experience) even though we were covered with deet. -This is advertised as a 30 minute swamp buggy tour but it ended up taking 12 or 13 minutes. This was good to the mosquitoes but again probably not worth the money. we were the last tour of the day and maybe the guy was just ready to go home. He did a nice job explaining the information he wanted to share, but the tour was very brief and probably not worth any additional money. -Riding the Swamp buggy was a really unique experience, but it was basically a short U shaped loop that would've taken about seven minutes if we haven't stopped to talk for 60 seconds three or four different times. Things that disappointed: The guy doing the alligator show was unprofessional and used more foul language than I prefer considering how many kids are in the group. What he did was OK but how he executed it came across as Tacky and unprofessional. He shared pretty good information as well Our tour guides seemed like they were on auto pilot. The info seemed very scripted and delivered in monotone that it came across a task vs tour. I prefer guided tours to learn about the culture and the background of a location. This information was just really not in depth and the delivery was underwhelming. I have a high expectation for both high-level information and especially when it says the captain's work for tips. Mosquitoes I understand they are part of nature, but the mosquitoes are really really bad and within two minutes of being in the restroom my daughter had about 15 mosquito bites. Maybe some better reminders or heads up for those not as familiar with the area could be helpful. No problem. We had brought mosquito spray and applied at generously we ended up running out and they sell it for nine dollars a can which is a little bit steep. they were almost unbearable on the swamp buggy tour. We were covered in date, but any part of your body they missed. The mosquitoes came after. The few folks who didn't bother to use bug spray were swatting and hitting themselves the entire tour. Feeling rushed We did our boat tour and returned on time, we walked right over to and alligator show. After that 20+ folks we had 10 or 12 minutes to hold the little alligators come on then we transferred over across the street for the Swamp buggy tour. Since we were the last tour of the day, everything was closed up immediately when we left. So if there was a gift shop, we didn't really have time to review that as we were busy with bug spray right after we checked in. Things I recommend On both tours they said to take the first tour of the morning Bath in Deet (high %) as soon as you arrive.

We have been to Wooten’s twice and have had a blast both times! Has become a tradition every time we travel to the Southwest Florida area! Captains are great and Carl made our grasslands boat tour amazing!!! Holding the alligators was awesome and my kids loved it! I would definitely recommend the full tour with the grasslands boat tour, the mangrove maze boat ride and the swamp buggy! This place is awesome!

Big Cypress Loop Road is a fantastic 15-mile drive through the Everglades for the Nature Lover. I recommend this road all year round but especially during and after the rainy season when the alligators fill the roadside and the canal running along the roadside. It will be an unforgettable view of Florida's apex predator and many other wildlife.

Unforgettable experience with alligators in the wild nature 👍🏽 We didnot see a lot of them. You should have patience and stop on every bridge to look carefully into the water and find at least one or two alligators. Your car will be very dirty and dusty after this route.

Quite a painful drive overall. At start about 15-20 miles of pot holes on a unmade track until there is none, but estimated it is 40 miles of which 20 miles you can on my do 10mph due to road surface and so whole drive took 2 hours. Yes it is scenic and you feel your deep in the swamp that is the Everglades. Nice plants and the odd bird but the drive for me wasn’t worth it, as after a while it’s all the same anyway. My rental was absolutely filthy on the outside by the end of it. Also dunno if it was because my car was white, but there was no chance opening door or window as literally hundreds of bugs surround the car while driving literally hornets and all sorts banging against window throughout. Highlight was at end seeing an old gas station & old car knowing normal road surface for last 7 miles was very welcoming.

Just wow, all swamp creatures direct in front of you. Drove in the morning and took so many nice pictures. Beware the Mosquitos are hungry but not as bad as I thought. Watch out for Alligators since they are everywhere when you step out of your car. The unpaved road conditions vary from good to moderate to very bumpy.

Very scenic drive, lots of wildlife! Highly recommend bug spray or long sleeves, long pants and hat with a bug screen if you are out of your car walking around. Great scenery of what Florida was like before it was settled, just raw and wild!

Great drive to see wildlife. Aligators, Ibises, vultures. Be well prepared for bugs. 2-3 westernmost miles of dirt road are full of potholes and driving is slow. Rest of the road in good condition

Perfect day-trip spot from Miami/Fort Lauderdale. Very beautiful. Lots of wildlife in their own elements. We saw many birds, vultures, alligators, and even a Burmese python. Much of the road is not paved and the lime rock will get on your car, necessitating a car wash after the visit. The speed limit is 20 mph for the most part. If you go faster, you will miss most of the fun anyway. You can set aside 5 hours for the whole trip.

World’s Smallest Post Office 3-23-25 If your ever around Route 41at Ochopee you must stop at this small Post Office. This Post Office is only 61.3 square foot large with a Plaque, Flag and Mailbox. If you stop when they are open, there is a guy inside working. You can send letters or get stamps. It’s just so cool you have your picture at this building. We stopped on a Sunday but will get back when they are open. Their address is 38000 Tamiami Trail E, Ochopee, Fl 34141 and Hours open are M-F 8-10am & 12-4pm, Sat 10-11am closed Sunday. Every trip we take must include at least one unusual attraction and this fit the bill. It is definitely tiny. If you're in the area it's a quick, fun stop.

Full service post office, hours noon to 4:00, I think. So cute I want to work there myself. I had some postcards I needed to mail then saw where I could buy a post card of this adorable post office, prestamped with the cancellation stamp of the little post office and a short history of the same. Took a few pictures, filled out my new postcards and left them to be mailed. Fed Ex came by while I was there. His truck was bigger than the post office. Stop by, take a picture and but a postcard for $1. Send it to a kid who will get a kick out of it.

Such a cute post office! I love tiny things and snail mail so it was a must stop. This is the second time I have stopped by and I made sure it was open. I even sent a post card to myself.

Omg! Don greeted us with a smile as if we were long lost friends. Says he sees thousands of people on a daily basis that are traveling through the area. Most like to take a moment to send off a little post card to home. He has a nice little set up inside too.

This is an absolute MUST DO if you’re traveling in the Everglades area. Not only do they have the best selection of Everglades/Skunk Ape souvenirs, (if you don’t know about the skunk ape…educate yourself before coming) but they also have a small reptile park to see some amazing alligators, and both native and well known invasive animals. The staff is the friendliest and kindest people you will ever meet. I honestly don’t know how they found the best people ever to work here but I’m so glad they did. If you have the time, you definitely should rent kayaks and follow the route the staff recommends. I didn’t know bromeliads grew in SWFL before doing this trip, but brace yourself for what I deem the “Hall of Bromeliads”. My friends and I are still talking about how amazing it is, and we did it a year ago! They also have an amazing campground with spots for RV’s and tents, as well as cabins and chickee huts! Everything is well maintained, feels safe and is just such a beautiful spot. Honestly, I loved it all so much I got married there. Experience a piece of real Florida and stop in or stay for the night(s).

I’ve always had an interest in the mysterious. It was a fun stop in the middle of the Everglades. We read about a 24 foot snake they had online but when we got there, it had past sometime ago. They have a small reptile exhibit that has a few snakes,turtles and a few alligators outside in a small area. Few photo ops outside. The retail store has some cool merchandise. We picked up a few shirts and toys for my son.

Brilliant place. Been meaning to visit for years and normally failed due to the weather! Emily was super helpful and we had a great chat about pythons etc. The exhibits are cool, and it's in the perfect location! Definitely worth a visit if you're down in the Glades.

Emily was welcoming and friendly when we stopped in for the first time on our way between cities! Cute souvenirs and snacks, a few animals for view for a few dollars. Learned some really cool skunk ape lore from her!

My friend in Marco has told me of this place forever. I’m a huge Bigfoot fan. He took me here and it reminded me of my youth traveling Florida in the old days. The Skunk Ape museum felt like I was stepping back into my youth traveling with my Dad on the Florida backroads. Please stop and enjoy this amazing spot. I highly recommend.

What an experience I had while visiting the Skunk Ape Research Headquarters. This is a phenomenal opportunity to learn folklore and meet a charismatic family that hold true to everglades traditions and culture. I recommend taking a day trip to vist and learn first hand about this elusive creature from first hand knowledge. You won't be disappointed!

Skunk Ape Headquarters is a must-see stop along the Tamiami Trail! It’s such a fun and curious little gem tucked right into the heart of the Florida Everglades. We got to see snakes, turtles, gators, and all kinds of cool wildlife up close. The exhibits are fascinating and give you that perfect mix of local legend and real Everglades adventure. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, and the place was spotless. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this is the perfect place to stretch your legs, learn something new, and maybe even catch a glimpse of the legendary Skunk Ape!

Did the 3 hour photo pole boat tour, at 7 am, solo. The tour was terrific and well worth the cost. The guide was really knowledgable and sensitive to photographic opportunities (moved slowly and quietly, good spotter). Saw/shot a wide variety of birds - nearly every variety of heron/egret and off course gators. Highly recommend for nature photographers.

This place was amazing. Pole boat tour for the kids 18th birthday. All the staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Loved the gift shop, and even took home one of their beavercraft knifes. Would recommend if you're in this area. We drove from brevard county for this tour and did not regret it one bit.

A bit disorganised, but to be fair we wanted to book a kayak tour the same day and called early in the morning. Ended up just renting kayaks and going by ourselves. Great experience! Kayaks were great, amazing nature and saw many alligators!

Very nice tour guide (Trey) with amazing knowledge about the history of the Everglades. Always felt safe in the kayak. Prices for a private tour were not cheap but worth it! Store and all staff professional and highly motivated.

I had a great experience renting a kayak today. The staff was incredibly friendly. The store was fun to browse in, bathrooms were clean. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in SW Florida visiting. I was able to see some Gators on the river, which was a new experience for me. Hopefully next time won't be so hot.

Really great kayak Tour! If you are visiting the Everglades you have to do this. We took it on dec 14th and approx. was 2hours. I would recommend the Tour at 4pm because you get to see the color change during sunset and it isnt as hot as throughout the day. But when the sun sets the mosquito come out. So better be prepared :-P It was approx. 130$ per person. We where 2 ppl and we where the only one 😊 Our tourguide explained a lot of background information on the everglades and the Wildlife. Thank you 🤗

Stopped by here to use the restroom on my way to Miami and walked out on the boardwalk for a few minutes to check out the wildlife. There were plenty of gators enjoying the sun and swimming in the water. Great place to stop to stretch the legs and use the bathrooms, which were pretty clean and there are plenty of stalls and parking spots.

This is the place to see alligators. As we waited for the visitor center to open up from lunch break. (There was only 1 person staffed.) We had a great time viewing the alligators in the pond. We also saw lizards, crows, egrets, herons, and lubber grasshoppers. The exhibit about wrestling alligators was pretty interesting.

Nice area, you can see Alligators 🐊, turtles 🐢, birds 🦅, enjoy the view while they are in their area. Really cool place, restrooms are clean, parking is free, visitor center with air conditioner, bring your insect repellent!! As soon as you get out of the car you will feel 300 mosquitoes 🦟 eating you!!

Every time we stop here, passing through the Everglades, there is an abundance of fascinating animals. Alligators, Turtles, Fish, Grasshoppers, Snakes and Birds, to mention some. Personally I have seen more incredible wildlife in this one spot than all my airboat tours combined over the years. If you really want to see some alligators this is the place (in my experience at least). Definitely worth stopping by and checking what can be seen when driving through the Everglades.

We just got back a few days ago, and didn't see any alligator in sight. Wrong time of year. We did not go in this time, as there was a note that said they would be back in fifteen minutes. A huge selection of art photography from Clyde Butcher. Very beautiful jewelry, prints, and shirts. One of these days we shall do a walk through the swamp.

Explored this area over the weekend..it is a small walking area but with it being not too busy visitor wise "" it was a pleasant day.. the views were beautiful.. there was a little museum which was nice..the bathrooms were appreciated but not clean and only had tp" in one of the stalls. A good place to stop while your driving the area..

Great visitor center for the But Cypress National Preserve. The rangers were helpful and friendly, even pointing out to check the boardwalk as there were manatees back there. We watched for a while and found several. Saw several alligators and other southern Florida wildlife.

I went here after an Everglades boat tour. It was so hot my fiance didn't come in. They have a little boardwalk that you can walk on. I went inside to say hi to the park ranger but that was about it. Not much to see here.

Very helpful staff gave us pertinent advice on nearby hiking trails .They were so friendly that it honestly felt like they were glad to see us. The everglades setting is beautiful and nature is right outside the door.

I cannot say enough good things about the Rangers here and their knowledge of the area. They are all wonderful and will answer any questions you might have and gi e suggestions for things to see in the area. We were lucky enough to catch a Ranger talk and it was very informative. We will be stopping in again!

Fun item selection and observation deck with an informative video. The staff was extremely eager to help and gave some great advice about areas to enjoy within the park. Was there on a drive through Tamiami Trail, but can't wait to go back and check out many of the available trails and wildlife if the park.

No signs about it in the parking lot, but the boardwalk is only a couple hundred feet long due to a fire. But the little part that remains was lovely and we saw lots of birds and a snake. Bathroom and large parking lot too. Hope they rebuild it because it seems like a great place to see wildlife!

Beautiful surroundings, quiet and idyllic. The scenery was beautiful, saw fish, turtles, lots of birds and a few sounds we thought may have been bigger mammals. The walk is perfect for those who want to experience nature without going too far. Park up and head for a wander. The light just before sunset was amazing.

Boardwalk is very pretty, but only 0.3 miles one way.

Great boardwalk with abundant wildlife. We saw fish, turtles, a lot of birds and cool forestry. I would bring mosquito spray and sun screen - only part of the trail is shaded and those parts are in mosquito heaven.

Kirby Storter was an unexpectedly wonderful stop big Cypress preserve. The boardwalk starts at being very unassuming, but in the middle of the trail, you encounter a cypress swamp with very large cypress trees. That is so impressive. the alligator deep pond at the end of the boardwalk is beautiful… I saw many birds even in the rain… But no alligators as they were likely in the water, keeping warm, being in the colder air from the rain Wheel check, accessible flat boardwalk is an easy hike for virtually anybody A super great stop… Do it!

Good little spot nearby the camping and airboating adventure to stroll around and experience the ecosystem of the everglades from close. Good pier and a trail that leads to a swamp which has gators and turtles, with a nice hut along the way. Plenty of parking space makes it accessible. I’d recommend it for quick (1-2hour) stop and take the glades in at leisure.

Amazing little stop while going past the Everglades. There is a boardwalk thats about a 5-10min walk and at the end is a rather large pond around with plenty of fish and turtles. There is quite a lot of parking and a restroom and there are a few picknick tables.

Highly recommend! Captain Mike was excellent. He was incredibly knowledgable about local wildlife, ecology and history and was fun to hang out with. He was an advocate for protection and respect of the area which was super important to us. We were touched by his passion and care for the land and animals that live there. We had a LOT of questions and he answered them all. The landscape is incredible and there is much to see. We did an hour tour and saw a ton but we would have loved to go longer. Also the boat really rips 10/10.

Did a private ride, Ray was the Captain and he was amazing!! He really knew the eco-system and provided so much information about the Everglades, the species that live within it and the importance of the alligator. We saw a ton of gators! Absolutely fantastic experience!!!

Captain Willy was an excellent guide. His knowledge and info provided was interesting. From him picking up helium balloons in the water (those are bad items) to having Ricky and Kevin stop and visit us....all great! Got to see many gators and even a baby one. This trip is a must if you are in the area. You won't regret it

Great service. We changed from 90 minutes ride to 60 minutes ride. We were graciously upgraded to a private ride.

A personal tour by a guide who knows the area well. Saw gators and gator nests along the route and never saw another air boat until we returned to the parking area. Informative guide and only 7 people on the boat. No gimmicks and shows. Just a tour of the natural environment.

We drove along the hole road and saw a lot of resting alligators.

We have done 3 different airboat tours in Everglades. River of grass was the better. Nature and wild life oriented. We feel the guy is living for gators. In other tours, the guys are living for money. They just are going fast during 30mn. Don't care about gators and other animals

If you really want to see some alligators this is the place (in my experience at least). Definitely worth stopping by and checking what can be seen when driving through the Everglades.

We did a guide tour, Chris Thorn was very informative. Seen a lot of birds and a few gators. One gator had babies. She never bothered us as we never bothered her. A little shallow in some areas, dry season. Very enjoyable.

Rented a canoe at the Skunk Ape campground 500 yards West of the launching site. Very friendly people, they brought us a canoe to the river right away (about 40-50 $ for two persons for two hours). No problem for canoe novices. We first went North on the small and narrow river, and already saw gators and other wildlife. Even a large gator with babies. Then we went South, to the Mangrove tunnel. And saw even more gators, from about 10 feet. What an adventure! Don’t take an airboat ride. It’s loud and you don’t see gators. Do some paddling and enjoy nature in an eco friendly way. We enjoyed it a lot. Impressive!

Great kayak launch. Short walk to the water. Clean bathrooms. The Turner River becomes very shallow and narrow downstream. Need a small kayak, and a paddle that breaks down. I saw lots of alligators, birds, and a water moccasin. Upstream it is suitable for a canoe.

If you like more open water then go left after you launch. If you want tight mangrove tunnels, go right and under the bridge. Good launch ramp, primitive style bathrooms that were clean.

Great kayak launch site rest rooms picnic tables and ample parking. Get in the real Florida wilderness experience. Light currents so paddling back is no issue. Only and hour or so from Miami!

A Must Do when visiting the Everglades, either with your own boats or with a guide. Experience gators in their element, paddle through mangrove tunnels (actually, hand grab through the mangroves), enjoy the Everglades as a natural wonder, not just scenery along the Tamiami.

Awesome kayak area. Tons of gators to see sunning on the warm banks of the river. Worked out way through the mangroves in our kayaks... Very cool! Took 4 hours to easily do a long out and back. Highly recommended!

If your looking for that unique natural airboat tour, then you must use Down South who provide private tours of the Everglades. We avoided the huge companies that carry 16 or so on each boat and paid that little extra. We rode with Down South 3 yrs ago and cannot fault anything. Ryan was awesome today and we will hopefully see you again at some point. Casey, please look out for bookings via email. A great experience in the middle of the wild Everglades. One small airboat holding 5 of us and two staff for 90 minutes. Simply amazing to be in that much mature with our knowledgeable guide Ryan. The launch area is about 43 miles east of the Everglades City and is revealed once booking is finalized.

Fantastic. Capt Ryan took us for an hour and a half ride . He got an alligator to come by the boat for photo op. It was amazing. We also saw eagles, herons, dragonflies, beautiful scenery. So glad we booked with Down South Airboat tours!

This company is great. They have 5 boats and have an exclusive deal with the reservation. Thus, you will have an uncrowded Everglades experience unlike what their competitors offer. Ryan was 3rd generation Everglades City and knew his stuff. Great tour. Lots of gators and birds. Beautiful! I'd recommend the 2 hour tour so you can see the Cypress portion and not be rushed. Highly recommended!

Fabulous tour by a small, local company. Gary was an amazing guide. He knows the Everglades like the back of his hand, was able to spot alligators while driving the boat at 30 mph, was full of lore about the ecosystem as well as personal stories of growing up outside of Everglades City. Regarding the Airboat tour itself, this is not to be missed. The Everglades are phenomenally beautiful and the ride is sooo smooth. You visit multiple different areas, sometimes racing high speed through the sea of grass, sometimes creeping through dense groves of trees. There are flowers, birds, frogs, air plants, hidden cabins, fish and, of course, GATORS! My favorite tour of the trip so far.

Our captain Gary went above and beyond to make our time on the glades fun, safe, and informative. We did the the hour and a half tour and it was perfect. We couldn’t move our tour time but they messaged us to see if we wanted to move our time to later in the day to see more gators. This was based on their knowledge of the time of year, weather and environment. On our 8:30 am tour we still saw plenty of gators and wildlife and Capt Gary even stopped us directly beside freshly hatched wild baby alligators that he had just discovered days before. If you’re going to do one tour in the Everglades make it this one! You can walk the boardwalks and head to the visitor centers to see some alligators but you’ll never really appreciate it’s vast beauty until you get into the middle of it! Our tour guide grew up in the area and you could tell he knew everything about it and loved to share its beauty with visitors! The boat ride was amazingly smooth and the birds and alligators plentiful! Take this tour! The local guides know the best spots and it was worth every penny!
