You have the option to buy a combo ticket for here and blue falls at the counter. We did the combo ticket. Tickets are not available online. You start by walking through the forrest before taking the 452 steps to the bottom. The view once you get to the bottom- amazing! There is a small flower garden too that you can walk through also.
This one is a bit off the beaten track, which means less crowded than some other waterfalls. Came straight from SJO airport and detoured via the scenic route to here. The drive is not for the faint of heart, very steep gradients and hairpin bends, fortunately not much traffic. The walk down to the falls is steep, but the steps make it manageable for most. We got unlucky with the weather, heavy rain all the way, but even getting to our hotel drenched was worth it
Such a beautiful place to visit, super easy hike down and out. The paths are well maintained, there are waste bins along the way, ample places to picnic and relax. Parking lot could use a bulldozer for sure, but that's typical of CR. Bring water shoes for sure, and enjoy.
An extremely beautiful waterfall! My husband and I went to Catarata del Toro waterfall. The entrance fee is $14. There’s a parking lot and an entrance point with bathrooms, and you can buy some food and snacks. The place is owned by a sweet Dutch guy. You can also purchase entrance to the Blue Falls at the same location, but unfortunately, it was closed during our visit due to the rain. The walk to the waterfall is lovely. It’s a short trek through the rainforest, but there’s a well-maintained path that’s easy to walk on. Along the way, there are some stunning lookout points. The most challenging part is the stairs leading down to the waterfall (and back up when you return). The steps are quite steep, but if you’re in average health, you’ll be fine. The entire trip should take you around 60-90 minutes. Overall, the view of the waterfall is absolutely amazing and breathtaking. It’s a magnificent sight, and I would definitely recommend visiting!
This waterfall is absolutely beautiful and definitely worth the visit. Swimming isn’t allowed, but the scenery makes up for it. There is a fee to hike here, so be prepared for that. The hike was easy and fun—great for kids and families. The staff was friendly and helpful, which made the visit even better!
We had a ton of fun and saw so many different waterfalls. The hikes are pretty good, although the main falls, catarata toro, has a lot of steps to go all the way down to the base. Luckily, you can see it from above if you’re not up to the hike
This is a really neat place to visit if you have time to drive to it. We did the combo tour so we saw the one BIG waterfall and then we did the Blue Pools and waterfalls as well. We did all of it minus one waterfall/blue pool in about 5 hours. We definitely aren't as fast as some of the young guides they have around the blue pools to help you but there are A TON of stairs everywhere to climb so if stairs are an issue for you I wouldn't recommend this place. Otherwise it was quite a cool place to visit. You can get in the water as well if you want but the water is freezing cold to me! I was only brave enough to get into my hips. It's definitely a great day activity if you don't mind walking a lot and going up and down a lot of stairs. So much beauty out there! They have a bathroom you can change in up at the one main waterfall if you need. There are no facilities down at the Blue Pools trailhead.
Wow! What a great day. Do the combo pass so you can see Catarata and the 6 pools at Blue Falls. Wear good hiking shoes or Keens. The guy we bought tickets from was SO friendly and spoke great English! It was raining when we went and it was all just as good. Do Pozo Azul last so you can swim and exit! The stairs are pretty intense but doable.

Amazing cloud forest hike. Accessible via a very scenic route. The experience was great and the little cafe at the park entrance was a welcome surprise.
The park is still under maintenance after the landslide of 2023 and the trail to get to the Pozo Azul is inaccessible. The remaining part tho, is still very nice and easily walkable, less tourists means enjoying more the nature.
Good hike. As of this review the lagoon is still closed because of the landslide in 2023. There is a small fence to stop you from keeping going at the top. Price was $10.
Parque Nacional Juan Carlos is tucked away in the hills of Costa Rica’s San Carlos Canton, but well worth the drive for a peaceful hike communing with nature. The drive there is scenic and the vistas spectacular. Several trail options and distances, depending on your ability. There is even a paved trail that is wheel-chair accessible. All are under tree canopy and dotted with babbling streams.
A magical place, full of natural attractions, full of flora and fauna, waterfalls, volcanoes, viewpoints, trails, restaurants... 20 minutes from Ciudad Quesada Centro, if you need information and local guidance contact insta: @johanan_07 @tico_tour506 🇨🇷💧🔥🌱🌬️
Easy to access, suitable for hiking, nice weather, and amazing landscape
Pretty nice place. Not overcrowded. Amazing views. To get there u might need a 4WD car.
Gorgeous trails In a misty forrest. One trail had very old trees. Could easily spend a day there. The crater was closed because of flooding
