A great activity to get out of the heat! Staff very friendly and aquarium life interesting to see. The turtles were amazing!! There was also a lookout for beautiful photos 📸
If you want to know what most of the fish that are in the local sea look like, come here. There’s a beautiful diversity of colorful creatures right in the aquarium, that you can then try to find if you snorkel at Bay of Lemons, Phare Amédée etc so you see what good collection of fish there is at the Lagoon aquarium. The behind the scenes visits are great as well. This is one of 2 places in the world where the ancient nautilus is bred successfully in house, the other aquarium is in Japan. We live here and visit very often.
Beautiful aquarium, it is small but have a great display of the lagoon fishes of new Caledonia
This was the highlight of our trip to Noumea. What a wonderful place. So well run, and all of the tanks were gleaming and in great condition. All the marine life was looking healthy and relaxed. I was so impressed with the stunning coral displays and tropical fish. Saw several species I'd never seen before. The prices for admission were very reasonable. It was a bit of a line to get in, and it was hot! A bit more shading out the front would be great, but it was not a huge wait. The gift shop had some great items for sale, and nothing was overpriced. Bus stop across the road and made the location very convenient. Loved the outside veiwing pool where the turtle were lots of seating to relax before resuming your tour. I highly recommend visiting here to anyone thinking of checking it out.
An amazing number of sea life and amount of information for a small aquarium. It was well worth the entry fee.
Great value for money. Easy to navigate around. A must do when you visit. A lot to see.
Nice aquarium with a giant turtle and lots of jellies. Go through the dark rooms to view the jellyfish on the way to the outdoor tank that houses the turtles. For those who have difficulty climbing the steps, there are ramps that can be used.
I recently visited the Aquarium des Lagons during a cruise, and I was truly impressed. The place is stunningly beautiful, impeccably clean, and the staff are exceptionally friendly. The diverse range of fish species is unlike anything I've seen in Australia. It was a truly special experience, and I want to express my gratitude for making it so memorable.

Great beach and awesome views from the lighthouse (300 franc and only open when the ferry - Mary D - is there). Nice snorkeling and beautiful turtles! Be careful with the snakes! Took a taxi boat for 6000 franc per person. I can recommend the agency called NAUTICA.
Great day at Amédée lighthouse including a buffet lunch, traditionnal dances , a nature walk, a glass bottom boat tour, the lighthouse and the most wonderful part the beautiful beach, water and the possibility to see turtles , wonderful fishes and corals with just a mask and a tuba
We went in a taxi boat and have a blast. The place is amazing. We saw a few turtles eating . I love turtles so was a dream come true when one of them pop up to breathe in front of me I was about to cry. Such a beautiful creature and super chill. The lighthouse offer amazing views of the whole island and the landscape is movielike blues and white sand. Definitely worth going. Corals where not so bright but I didn't want to go away too far. Still manage to see many 🐠 fishes. We saw 4 turtles, some snakes too. The striped ones. But they are harmless, you just don't want to bother them as they are endangered species so just watch them from afar.
The staff from Mary D were extremely polite and helpful, most people were speaking in French but they made a real effort to include English. Buffet lunch had plenty of options. Lighthouse is a bit of a climb but the view around the Island made it worth the effort. Glass bottom boat trip was fun but we were more lucky than the other trips that day with the turtles.
A very popular place and stunning anchorage. Unfortunately they do not cater to general public well. No food & bar hours dependant on tour boat times.
Did as part of p&o cruise shore tour. $220 pp only $20 -$40 or so more than booking direct with Mary D who did the tour and have the monopoly for trips to amedee Island but Mary D wouldn't take direct bookings when I tried. Lovely little island white sand clear water. The included extensive bbq style buffet lunch was delicious, desserts limited and average but did include a sugar free mousse and dragon fruit. Show entertaining. Have sun lounges , only a few umbrellas and under trees. Left of jetty facing island was best area . Included glass bottom boat trip very ordinary mainly because not great coral but did see big fish that arrive when give fish food. Snorkeling very ordinary not great but still pleasant pastime. Saw 2 turtles which was great. Be careful rips and sea snakes. We had 2 come onto land under my sunbed! No idea if dangerous or not. No one said anything about them or saw no signs . Left noumea 9am 45min boat ride left island 3pm. Pleasant day relaxing. Probably not do again mainly due to the steep price and felt too short a time. Other better snorkelling islands to ho in area.
Was a wonderful day on the beach! Fun glass bottom boat ride with a great tour guide, amazing buffet, and saw turtles. Water is crystal clear. Highly recommend Mary D Seven tours!!
The day started with the typical “getting lost” around the port in Noumea searching for our ferry to the island, but after a short wait, we boarded for our day trip and it was worth the slight hassle. Such a beautifully organised day out, visiting the lighthouse was extremely charming and a symbol of French colonialism in the middle of the Pacific. You get stunning views of both sides of the beach, with wind surfers occupying one and tourists the other. It was overall spectacular 🙌🏾

Protected New Caledonian island featuring beaches, a marine reserve & a restaurant.

Beautiful island. full of corals and fishes. Great place for snorkeling. We used the glass boat to get there and it's quite close to the shore. It is also fun to walk around the small island. We had such a great time there.
On tour with cruise ship, nice day trip. Pretty island, fair snorkeling- saw turtles, many fish. Nice to relax away from ship. Best to take your own snacks. Take water-shoes as beach quite corally.
After reading all the reviews online for Duck Island, we decided to spend a couple hours on Duck Island, If you want to enjoy the good side of the Beach you will have to pay for Beach chairs (as all the reviews advise they are expensive) unfortunately, they do have the nest side of the Island where they clear the beach from all the Coral and rocks. We opted not to hire one but instead explore the little Island, there are very few spots to sit and enjoy the water but depending on the weather the spots are not worth swimming. There is a restaurant on the Island with a few good selections of cocktails, a little expensive compared to the main island. Also great views of Noumea from the Island with photo opportunities.
I was surprised to see how close it is from Anse Vata beach but I love the island for its lovely, clear water. It is not really a white sandy beach but you can enjoy the lovely swimming session and snorkeling as well. Too bad when I came here it was just a day after the storm so the visibility was zero. But I still enjoy the day out here. There is a cafe here as well where you can order some drinks and finger food. And you can rent the umbrella as well as the snorkeling gear if you don't have yours.
Only 5mins from Noumea (1500xpf by taxi boat on the mainland - look for the yellow/red flag) but full of tourists. Beaches covered in dead coral which is surprisingly painful so bring water shoes! Snorkelling is pretty good but better on the further islands so not my favourite. Would come if you are short on time/need convenience. Popular with young families.
If you are staying at Noumea, going to Duck Island is a no brainer. The best way to get there is taking the glass boat from the pier in front of the Burger King. In my view this island is better than others that are usually better rated (eg Amedée and Maitre). The corals are abundant and very close to the shore. Even my six year old kid could easily go and see all sorts of corals and fishes.
As someone suggested in their review, most of the coral reefs are dead but they are still refuge to lots of colourful fishes. I snorkelled there for more than an hour and was lucky to swim with turtles. Not worth renting anything from the island. No fresh water bath available. It is only available on the mainland beaches (5 min away by a ferry). Lovely helpful people on the mainland beach at Rock sail stop ( Hop on Hop off bus). Very hot and two chairs and an umbrella cost about 46A$.
Have to say the snorkeling was disappointing, most of the reef is dead but there are plenty of fish. My sister and I came here and brought our own drinks and food and they didn’t seem to mind as drinks and food are very expensive.

Cultural center
Museums
Striking, Renzo Piano–designed cultural center designed to resemble traditional Kanak structures.
Slide 1 of 8
Important and interesting cultural landmark of New Caledonia. Explains rich history and culture of local Kanak peoples in beautiful Renzo Piano-designed architecture. Worth visiting to understand this archipelago more profoundly.
Visit here totally surpassed my expectations! I had thought there might be a small visitor centre with a few exhibits and we called in on route to the Blue Lakes. However, it was well worth the one hour visit. Extremely culturally sensitive exhibits, impressive architecture, and beautiful surrounding walks. Highly recommend.
It was an interesting place to learn about the original inhabitants of Noumea, the Kanaks. We were immersed in their culture and way of life. Their respect and love to nature and how it reflects in their daily lives. It was a pleasurable walk and visiting the traditional houses was great. We saw how they are great architects and the functionality of the houses and its role in the community. It’s definitely worth a visit!
Tjibaou Cultural Centre ultimate Review 🇳🇨 How to get here: - It is best to -> drive yourself or to take the bus 🚌 (if available) to experience this one of a kind cultural centre! It’s around 10 min drive from the centre and by foot it’s ~1 hour (a challenging walk in the heat) it’s nice by bicycle 🚲 as there is a good bike lane. Entrance Fee: - The entrance for an adult is 1000 XPF and you’ll get a discount if you are a student (500 XPF) or elderly person etc. Architecture: - Inspired by traditional Kanak architecture you can discover Renzo Pianos masterpiece in one go! There is also a big part of information on the architectural design and construction! Exhibitions: - From Art, Forest Paths, Villages to Photography you’ll find all of this and more in this fascinating Cultural Centre. Duration: - I personally spend around 2,5 hours here as you can sit near the sea, discover the exhibition halls and take very nice pictures while learning all about Kanak culture. Facilities: - Free water dispensers, clean toilets, mostly air conditioned rooms and a small cafeteria. Nice gift shop. Free Wifi! What to bring: - Suncream 🧴 , Snacks, Water, phone 📱 Translations: - Most explanations are in French and it’s recommended to simply use Google translate. This centre is a must ist you want to understand and learn about Kanak culture. Marie “May” at the ticket counter gave a map and excellent overview! She really made a difference and welcomed me in the best possible way with a lot of enthusiasm for her culture. I can highly recommend this Centre to everyone interested in Art and Culture! 🇳🇨
If you have a couple of hours spare in Noumea, it's worth visiting the cultural centre, only 15min drive, cost 2000CXP. Don't miss the last guided tour at 2pm or walk on your own though most information in French, they have free wifi so you can always translate. Great sunset view as well.
Saw the location on the map and decided to make the drive up there as no bus service is available. We were told it takes about 2 hours to view everything and that the ticket would allow us to come back and forth all day if we wished. Some installations were open to view, with limited English explanations, most in French (they do have signs up recommending using Google translate) so wifi and internet is needed. But lots of empty or locked areas that seemed a waste considering the size of the place. Maybe we were there at the wrong time of year, but it was a bit disappointing. No cafe for food and drinks, only vending machines with coke and coffee.
Tjibaou Cultural Centre is good to learn about Kanak heritage and modern island art.
Disappointing: insufficient displays offer English translations, considering that this is a premier destination for overseas tourists. The sign offering free internet and translations appeared in one place only, and we only saw it after we had attended every exhibition. The cafe and gift shop were closed (it was Saturday). Also, there wasn’t actually that much info about Kanak traditional life eg food acquisition, production and trade; social and family structures and life; village and inter-tribal politics and customs; history of migration; music, not even in French. Good exhibition of carved wooden poles, and a lovely walk through the gardens with adequate information about spiritual beliefs and practices. Perhaps this place isn’t really intended for foreign visitors after all, but a centre for local traditional owners to gather and practice traditional arts and crafts in workshops and residency projects.

It was nice to walk along the coast here years ago when I came on a business trip. Noumea was nice overall at that time
Beautiful beach with everything you need - clean sand, toilets, restaurants, showers, bars, shops, events, water sports etc… place to be
Beautiful place especially the northern end Lots of families swimming, snorkelling, wind surfing Quieter than “Baie d Citron” aka “Lemon Bay”. Easy to get to from Marina via Taxi aprox $1500 XPF Or can bus from city on Bus#3 one way $300 XPF (aprox every 20-30 mins)
Currently getting an upgrade to promenade which should be finished by April 23. The best beach to stay in Noumea. Best bars and gorgeous views of íslands, ocean and sunset.
The beach and the promenade are a great area with a nice atmosphere. We were pleasantly surprised with how lively the area was particularly at night. Loved the water views and all the different shades of blue. Great area to explore on foot by day or night. Only a 2 hour flight from home in Australia but the whole area feels a world away and has a very European feel.
We stayed at a hotel on Anse Vata Beach and we were very happy. Plenty of restaurants, bars, water taxis and of course the beach! All walkable
Council has shut the beaches...no swimming, not even a quick dip to cool off because of sharks! Seriously need to revisit this madness decision! Swimming within 20m of shore would be a sufficient warning ⚠️ 😕
This was the best beach, and probably the most beautiful one, that I have ever been to in my life. The water was a crystal clear aqua, warm, (about 24 degrees in May), and so clear you could see every ripple of sand underfoot even at waist or chest level, and watch the small tropical fish shoals passing every little while. The palms and white sand were amazing too, and the people happy and friendly. Travelling there was easy and quick from anywhere in the city.

Very nice beach. The water is quite calm and great for swimming.
It is one of the best beaches in Noumea. Sadly, no one is in the water due to recent shark sightings. I visited 8th April 2023.
It's a lovely clean swimming area. Most is protected by shark nets. Also seating on bank. Good for families and singles. Restaurants run along promenade on opposite side of beach. Plenty of parking. Very busy and popular area with locals.
Lemon Bay is not bad in Nouméa! The beach is perfect for families tho—calm, clear water and fine sand make it great for swimming and relaxing. The pontoons offshore were a hit with my kids, who loved jumping off them. Snorkelling was surprisingly good, with colourful fish and a small reef to explore. The shady trees and grassy areas are ideal for a picnic or just chilling out. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants across the road expensive tho!, so you’re never far from a coffee or meal. Only downside: it can get busy on weekends, and some parts of the beach are a bit rocky, so bring water shoes. Easy to reach by bus from the city center.
Lemon Bay is probably the best beach in Noumea surrounded by coconut trees. Must visit anytime of the day, sunrise or sunset. Beach is really calm and is perfect for kids and adults to swim. Plenty of parking, bus stop across the road and lots of restaurants and cafe next to the beach. The beach is about 10mins bus ride from Nouméa's international cruise liner port.
Lemon beach is one of the best beach I see. My family has great time there, blue, white and green color water. Must see.
Beautiful bustling beach with lots of cafes and families Enough shade - my preference is the next beach around “Ana Vatu” which is quieter and more scenic
Beautiful Bay known as Baie des Citrons ,consisting of different beaches. As you stroll around you will find restaurants, cafes and boutiques, and hotels on one side. Walking on the beach side ,you notice that this is an area where both tourists and locals mix. Locals wind down after their wk day has finished either strolling or exercising. Lovely place to sit and have a picnic, swimming is safe and great for children. Found that you can spend a whole day there with something to do at all times. Stop and watch the locals playing "petanque" the french bowls or listen to locals strumming on their guitars. A must place to visit

City park

Charming, shaded city-square park offering a central pavilion & wide walking paths.
Slide 1 of 8
Place des Cocotiers is like the heart of Noumea. It's this huge square surrounded by tall coconut trees, and it's always buzzing with activity. The ocean view is just stunning, perfect for watching the sunset. There are tons of restaurants and cafes around, so you can grab a bite to eat or a coffee and just chill. And there's always something going on, like festivals or markets. I could spend hours just people-watching and soaking up the atmosphere. Coming from Thailand, which is so far away, I really wish my hometown had a beautiful square like this.
Thursday markets!!! I didn’t see a mention of Thursday markets anywhere in any of the tourism literature for Noumea, and we stumbled on them by accident. So interesting, it’s clearly where the locals do their buying and selling of fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, pot plants, flowers, clothes, cut flowers and plants, jam, pickles, and loads of locally produced takeaway food for breakfast or lunch. There were a few cruise ship tourists but not many. We had a great time.
We had an amazing day in Numea. City Park was the first place when we got off the shuttle bus. The location was great. The views were amazing. There was a lot of friendly people to greet us and let us know what was available to do. Bus tours and train bus tours etc. The park was child and wheelchair friendly. Overall a great place
Enjoyable for a shaded stroll on a hot day. Clean area. Some cafes along the far end. Locals go there for picnic lunches and shade.
Interesting place with local vibes ! On a weekend there is a musical kiosk that plays a local music! The band is very vibrant! You can hear local song! It was a great experience. There is also a flea and street markets . People sell all kind of stuff. You can potentially find a little souvenir that you want to bring home. Everything is very cheap there. There are also few food tracks. Something good to experience when you are there!
Very nice park in the center of town. There are many tropical trees, shrubs and flowers. There big tree shades that the locals and tourists can relax during hot noon.
July 2023 - Lovely big open space in the middle of town. We had a short pit stop and wander before carrying on with our journey. Not much happening whilst we were there, but I imagine it gets really busy.
This is the heart and center of the city. Very nice place to relax. It is hot in the morning but there are some shaded areas where you can hide. It is best to visit at night where you can see a lot of Christmas lights and feel the holiday season. There are also nearby stores where you can buy some stuff you need at night.

Zoo
Nature & Parks
This 34-hectare park features a botanical garden & a zoo with birds, reptiles & small mammals.
Slide 1 of 8
This zoo is an absolute delight to visit, offering a tranquil escape into nature. The park is beautifully maintained, with lush greenery and a variety of animals in thoughtfully designed enclosures. The highlight for me was seeing the peacocks and other exotic birds freely roaming around, adding a unique charm to the experience. The layout of the zoo makes it easy to explore, with plenty of shaded areas for a relaxing walk. A must-visit for families or anyone looking to connect with wildlife in a serene setting!
This is a great park to visit in Noumea if you are into birds (not me). There is a good amount of walking and you can easily spend 1-2 hours here. There are also water refill stations and drinking fountains, which are especially useful on hot and humid days. The highlight was the catfish in the pond which followed us around (presumably because they were expecting food).
Managed to squeeze in a brief park walk on our last day & if you like beautiful plants and ample foliage to provide shade this is a great place to chill out - bring a picnic lunch there are lots of spots to settle on but no feeding the animals!! It was nice that the endemic fauna are close enough to really appreciate as I don’t think a cagou in the wild would have let us get so close. That said, some of the bird enclosures are a bit small though & we only checked out the endemic section so we never witnessed what others have mentioned about mammals being kept in very confined spaces which possibly exist in other sections. It’s quite hilly and the further you descend the longer you’ll inevitably need to ascend so keep this in mind if walking on inclines or declines are problematic. Would loved to have spent longer & made a half day of it
Nice large park to take a walk, but nothing too fancy regarding the animals. In particular the cages are quite basic and not really pretty. Petting zoo seems to be closed and has been for some time. In face of the small fee it might be worth a visit, but Nouméa has much better attractions if you have limited time. E.g. the Lagoon aquarium was otherworldly compared to this park/zoo.
Nice Zoo, providing good views, with big variety of colourful birds and a few animals. Allow 2-3 hours minimum to see everything.
Great value. Would recommend visiting to see a cagou as you may not have a chance in the wild. Otherwise some relatively interesting Caledonian birds and some foreign ones too. Don't expect to see much other than birds - the only mammal before European settlement was the bat.
It's a small park, but it has some picnic areas and many local birds and other animals. Also several scenic overlooks. Good for small children.
This is pretty good zoo with big territory. Staff are super friendly and helpful. There are not so many animals but still it is like safari. Monkeys, birds, emus are there.

This place is so stunning. The water is crystal clear. I did jet ski & paddle boarding here. You can take double tree boat from Port Moselle to here and just to pay for the transfer or you can stay at Hilton hotel here overnight.
I went by water taxi from aquarium. 2500 return in frank. Dropped off at hilton Marina side. Hilton looked ok nothing special. They had some of island allotted as private beach and had a pool etc. Plenty of places to pick your spot along public area. Some tree shaded areas but they snatched up by locals pretty quickly. A lot come in for day on their boats. Also a lot of wind surfers and kite surfers. It was very windy out there. Luckily you can go to opposite side of prevailing wind. Food and drinks expensive as you can imagine. I noticed locals came prepared with everything. You prearrange what time you are returning with taxi boat. I did see a yellow and black snake while I was there. It wasn't healthy and a middle aged boy was harassing it. It crawled my way and then lay under some timber. Boy came back to harass it and I told him to leave it alone. It stayed under some wood not moving. Either exhausted and resting or going to die. It got a couple hrs rest before I had to leave and I have no doubt boy would be back proding it. So just be aware there are snakes out there!
- Ilot Maitre - Short boat ride from main marina in Numea Amazing to swim with the turtles Plenty of fish life to look at We saw heaps of turtles 🐢, plus sea snakes and sting rays My suggestion would be to take a picnic drinks and food from the mainland as there is heaps of que for the food and a long wait time for it to be made on the island Dispute being “a Hilton” the food is not of an American Hilton standard at all and it takes ages to be served and for food to arrive. The loungers and chairs are not enough for the amount of people and shade is a little limited. You can easily walk around the island on the sand and coral which would take maybe 20 mins but can be hot on the east side. To be honest the island it’s self needs a lot of work and maintenance of the grounds and walk ways but the sea life is amazing and the staff are friendly and trying their best. They definitely need more staff and better infrastructure and management to welcome and manage day guests and overnight guests Worth a day trip - for the turtles and sea life, probably would not stay here again over night
Only takes about 20minutes by water taxi from anse vata. The water is crystal clear and had so much fun doing snorkelling. The small beautiful island to visit on a day trip.
Great place to recharge yourself and relax. Great internet, so I could still "work from home."
Stunning beaches and buffet in a restaurant is absolutely amazing.
Beautiful view, great experience. Very friendly and helpful staff. Definitely worth the experience, friendly staff and service. Finding wifi or prepaid cellular options is difficult on the island. I was able to make calls and have wifi reception with no issues. It was a quick boat trip and it was great!
The resort itself was sadly below average standards. Rude and moody staff and clearly don't want to work there. (except for the friendly young french bloke behind the bar and the maintenance guys). Pool bar was never open. Extortionate price for an average buffet. Remember to bring your own food and alcohol from the mainland as the prices in the resort are a rip-off. Zero entertainment in the evenings. Only thing to do is watch TV in your room (no english speaking movie channels). The only reason I've given it 2 stars is for the beautiful sandy beaches and clear turquoise waters. Snorkelling with lots of turtles was the highlight.

Friendly staff, nice camping spots directly at the beach, rental of tent, sleeping bags and sleeping pads possible. Diving shop included. Electricity at the house to charge stuff. Several benches and roofed tables on site for cooking diner. Great place!
It was a pleasure diving with Thierry despite the rough seas and poor viz. He is like a painter excited to show you his latest work of art when shining a light and showing you the dive sites. Lovely to see someone who still loves diving and isn’t jaded after being here for decades. Thierry responds promptly to emails and you can pay online to book your spot. His dive center is clean and has good equipment. Nice thick wet suits if you feel the chill. Prepare yourself for long boat rides out to the dive sites. About 25 minutes in good weather, an hour in bad swell. Meet at the dive center at 7:30 AM and return at 1 PM. The reef shark nursery dive is terrific: lots of fish and sharks. Even a turtle with remoras. My dives here were far better than at the Isle of Pines. Nice warm shower at the camping’s sanitation block after your dives.
Scuba dived with Thierry who took us to the outer barrier reef. Shop had all the equipment that I needed and took us to two wonderful dive sites. Saw spotted eagle rays, sharks, tons of fish, swam through multiple swim throughs and along steep deep walls. Excellent and friendly service! Will scuba dive with Babou Cote Ocean again when I return to Hienghene. Wonderful experience!
Thierry offered us a high quality diving experience and a warm welcome. He’s very passionate about it. I enjoyed every minute. His center is very well maintained. You can also camp there, rent kayaks and take warm shower after diving.
I wish we could stay here longer. Thierry is such an amazing person. We enjoyed our dives here; Cathedral and Dongan Hiengu. We stayed in a tent in the campsite. The facilities are basic but sufficient. We couldn’t bring our own tent so we rented one from them. It’s good quality. We had some heavy rains during our stay and luckily there was no leaks.
We just stayed one night for camping, lovely campsite with a decent sized table/sitting area and shower/toilet with running water. The guy running it when we checked in did not speak much English but we were able to get it sorted and he let me borrow a couple tools when one of our tent poles broke.
These guys were awesome! My wife and I had our best dives here while on our honeymoon... dive sites were excellent with cool swim throughs and the guide spoke English well and kept us included, 100% recommend. Good camping facilities there too (shower/toilet)
We came in wanting to kayak around the area. However the wind was pretty strong so we had a change of plan. The owner and staffs were really nice to us, advising us different activities to do instead of kayaking even though we took up their time.

Noumea City Morning Market Visited on Friday, 6/12/2024 The Noumea City Morning Market, also known as the Port Moselle Market, is a few minutes’ walk from the cruise terminal. This is the first stop of the Hop-on Hop-Off bus. The market, with its distinctive blue roofs, is very clean, and floor dry throughout. It is composed of five small halls: • Fresh Produce Hall • Seafood Hall • Meat and Flowers Hall • Pastries and Baked Goods Hall • Handicrafts and Clothing Hall The fresh produce hall is filled with a wide variety of colorful tropical fruits such as bananas, pineapples, papayas, and mangoes, along with local produce especially yams, taro, etc. Non-tropical fruits such as apples, oranges, kiwi fruit, and pears are imported from Australia or New Zealand. The seafood hall, located in a separate building offers fresh catch by local fishermen, including fish, seafood, and crustaceans like lobster. There are imported varieties such salmon, tuna, prawns and shrimps on sale. The meat hall offers a variety of locally sourced meats, but lamb, duck and Venison are imported. Part of the flower / pastries hall is filled with local tropical flowers such as hibiscus, frangipani, and orchids. Bouquets and arrangements are made with a mix of local and imported flowers, including roses and tulips from cooler climates. There are coffee, pastries and baked products on sale, including my favourite croissants, and Danishes. This handicrats and clothing hall stocks many local unique products, including jewelry, pottery, and decorative pieces made by local artisans. It is important to note that the market is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 5 AM to 11 AM. I feel that it is a missed opportunity for food operators not to provide customers with the service to cook and consume their freshly purchased seafood on the premises.”
We loved the cafe in the middle, the delicious pastries, and the relaxed vibe. Many of the souvenir products were low quality and very overpriced. There is one stall, though, that sold handmade coconut fibre jewellery with pearls. It was fantastic and well priced. This market is great if you are there for the cafe or are looking to buy some fresh fruit or vegetables.
The fresh fruit and veggies were great, as well as fish. As for the other stalls not a lot to choose from. I was there NOT when a cruise ship was in town so everything light on the ground. When there are cruise ships in town everything ramps up to grab the $$$$$
Worth a visit to see the local produce and seafood. Easy walk from the cruise ship / ferry terminal. Good chance to buy souvenirs if nothing is open. Prices looked high, as expected in a tourist oriented market.
It is a must visit, you can get some souvenirs, local produce, and seafood. Rather overpriced (as expected) since they tailor to tourists. Prices are typically 20-30% higher than in Australia (1 medium pineapple approx 10-13 AUD, 1kg bananas 10AUD). Souvenirs are made in China. For local crafts I was told to browse smaller art stores in the city but I didn’t have enough time to investigate.
As a tourist, was a tad bit disappointed not seeing any action going on here. Was expecting the local market to be filled with locals doing their morning shopping, and a fair bit more action than what I had. Maybe it's because it was a Sunday when we visited. As a local, there's not much selection whatsoever. Many stalls have since closed, leaving the space empty. Only a couple of vegetables, fish, fruits, and baked goods stalls are left. The rest, very much tourist souvenir good stands. You'll likely spend about 20 mins here, walking around, snapping photos, do some shopping, enjoy some coffee, and bask in the sea breeze, before moving on to your next stop.
Must visit for tourist to meet locals selling fresh fruits and vegetables, art and craft, souvenir, fish, prawns and crabs. Most resorts don't allow cooking so you may not want to buy alot. You can buy pineapple, pawpaw, fresh coconut water, banana, oranges and lots of other fruits. I don't understand why someone doesn't cooked fish and chips to try at the market. There is a little cafe in the middle to buy breakfast and FREE WiFi is also available. Bus stop is across the road so you can go back to your resort or cruise liner. The market is closed on Mondays and opens at 5am and closes at midday.
Stop here for fresh vieneoisserie, baked bread, coffees! Huge selection of fresh produce! The locals sell their wares as well! Selection includes tshirts, sarongs, handmade soaps, vanilla bead pods/seasonings, fans, magnets, Plumeria flower headbands, jewelry, canvas tote bags and trinkets. One little section of stalls but enough if you’re looking for some souvenirs. They take AUS dollars and most folks take credit cards (mostly Visa, some take Amex). Nice little market. (On a side note- we visited the Johnston grocery store before we stopped here and found magnets, postcards and a few trinkets- along with awesome chocolates and snacks). It was great being able to use our Credit card to pay and not convert currency or pull from an ATM.

This was such an awesome experience! We booked it straight off the cruise ship and went on the drive out to the forest then on the zip lines. I was a bit scared at first but it was so safe and so much fun. It did go a bit longer than expected, but we’re still back in plenty of time. The views are wonderful, can’t recommend this enough!
Great experience, such amazing views from the zip lines. Owners and staff were such kind people. Highly recommend
Great time with my partner and 5 year old daughter. Staff were great, zip lines were great, highly recommended.
An absolutely amazing experience. Well done Erin & Stan
Insane fun, would do it again in a heartbeat
Wonderful Time !!!

(Translated by Google) An unforgettable family moment! We spent an amazing afternoon at the Mont Mou zip line. The site is simply magnificent, with a breathtaking view that is already worth the trip alone. But what made the experience even more exceptional was the welcome and support from the two supervisors: professional, caring, attentive, and always with a smile! We were a family, with different ages and situations (notably a teenager with a disability), and everyone felt comfortable, confident, and had a magical time. A big thank you for this superb experience which we highly recommend! We will come back without hesitation!

Very nice museum on the people's of New Caledonia. It even expands out from the island with elements of Micronesia, Polynesian as well as the melenisan cultures. Being a Sunday we had free admission which was excellent.
Easy to locate, the entry fee was affordable though I was expecting something bigger! Good place to learn the different cultures of Polynesian countries. They also have 8 giant comic books for children so they won't get too bored.
Value for money Museum. At 200 New Caledonia francs it was reasonable and showed a lot of their history and of the Pacific countries.
If you visit Noumea, a visit to the museum is a must. Centrally located (near McDonalds) the visit was well enjoyable.
Visited this museum when we were on the P&O Pacific Dawn Island Hopper Cruise. Was surprised to see some aboriginal artifacts such as the boomerang on show. Worth a visit.
Front office reception was not so friendly...but if you have an hour to spare this is an interesting place.
The museum in itself is quite old, but provides a good overview of the history of New Caledonia as well as the entire Pacific. The Great Case in the gardens is a must-see.
Very interesting. Lots of info on New Caledonia and the surrounding islands.

The Maritime Museum of New Caledonia offers a truly captivating experience. The exhibits are rich with history, showcasing artifacts and stories that bring maritime culture to life. The well-maintained displays and interactive sections make the visit both educational and enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone interested in maritime history or seeking an engaging and unique museum experience.
A fantastic museum with engaging displays telling stories about colonial seafaring. Sadly very little focus on indigenous maritime history despite the wealth of cultural heritage 🤨
All you need to know ⚓️ 🚢 Entrance: - Fee is 1000 CFP per adult - special prices I.e. for students, unemployed 500 CFP - They speak English Duration: - The exhibition is enjoyed in around 1 h Display: - Many artefacts from shipwrecks, history and the South Pacific war - Very Kids friendly - They will provide a leaflet that guides you through - English and French display Facilities: - Clean toilets, free water, no wifi, no food, nice souvenirs Overall a good place to learn about New Caledonia 🇳🇨 and the history of this wonderful country! Enjoy ☺️
A must-see museum with Nautical flavour As others have said you could easily overlook this Museum located where it is - but it really is one of those hidden treasures. Beautifully laid out and with translations of virtually every display from French into English. Some interactive displays for little people. An amazing story of discovery, loss, searches, mutinies, pride and hatred. It has it all!!
Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Noumea. The exhibition about the French boats that explored the southern continent and sank in the Solomon Islands was excellent. Plenty of English translations
Small but comprehensive. The section covering the La Perouse expedition & shipwreck contains many artifacts, and it has AC.
Great little museum, English translations for most displays. Good presentation of maritime history. Very good activities for kids but I think they were mostly in French.
I really enjoyed this place especially the story of the French exploration of the Pacific. All the signs were in English as well as French so that is a plus. Overall this is an excellent museum to visit.

A superbly kind and patient team that knows the (spectacular) diving sites like the back of their hand. They have up-to-date equipment and and a quick and easy onboarding procedures before heading out to the reefs (25 min away by boat). A shoutout to Laurent for taking care of our our group, as well as a special thanks to Martine for sharing some of her air in the last 5 minutes of our third dive.
Small diving operation that takes good care of clients, and speaks good English . Excellent coral and “canyons.” For me the underwater scenery was the highlight and the fish a bonus. Dive site was 20 mins by boat to near the reef. Very happy with standard of equipment.
Really nice diving centre. Well organised, equipment in good state and most importantly: great instructors!!! I really appreciated that we went diving in small groups. We normally had 3 divers + 1 instructor per group. On the boat there were normally three groups. The dive sites are absolutely amazing, nothing I've seen anywhere before. Such healthy reefs. It was great fun diving through canyons and tunnels. The team is fantastic at finding small animals, especially nudibrancha. Absolutely stunning! Don't expect big fish, although we did see a shark or humphead parrotfish here and there, but rather come with an eye for detail. We went diving in January during rain season so one dive got cancelled because of bad weather, so just be aware that this could happen short notice because the weather is a bit unpredictable. We weren't charged for it and I appreciated that the team is better safe than sorry.
Prepare to be amazed... A few months ago, I attended a diving training with Tieti Diving in Poindimie, where, without a doubt, the most stunning dive sites of New Caledonia can be found. There, you discover untold creatures, species which are too tiny to satisfy the media’s thirst for catchy headlines… However, these creatures are by far the most fascinating. In Poindimie, we discover a secret and fragile world, made up of unexpected little individuals. From nudibranchs of all sizes and colours, to pigmy seahorses, they all live amongst a huge diversity of (fortunately still healthy) coral, resting on a breath-taking relief (Remember to breathe though!) Caves and canyons, along with their mysterious inhabitants, will blow your mind and have you mesmerised as if you had just landed on a new planet, feeling so small before this whole new world. Dive sites are easily accessible, and who knows, may offer fortunate encounters en route… Marie is the best captain! Full of energy and gentleness, she enjoys transmitting her love for the country and its ecosystems. Thank you so much! Had lots of fun training with Laurent for a week! Dives and theory classes were to the point and directly applicable. Very pragmatic, Laurent taught me humility, efficacy, reactivity and gentleness. During that week, I re-discovered what diving and learning how to dive actually mean. Learning how to dive is not about grabbing a tank and going deeper, it’s about being aware of and accepting your own limits. It’s about knowing yourself and your partner, and being there for them at all times, because as soon as you get underwater, your lives become intimately linked. You will become a better diver not only by knowing the people and their gear, but also knowing and understanding your environment, how it affects you as a person, and what your impact on it is. This will allow you to appreciate its beauty and fragility. Learning to dive is about planning and foreseeing the risks in order to stay safe and enjoy the moment underwater. This training made me discover a new world, beyond the surface, beyond 20m deep, where each further metre you travel brings its wonders but also its potential risks. I discovered an atmosphere in which only this very moment counts, where neither the past or the future exist anymore. Martine and Laurent are incredible and full of surprises! They live in harmony with each other and with their environment, everyday sharing their passion with adventurers who are willing to take the plunge. You welcomed me with your “joie de vivre” and happiness and made me value little pleasures in life. Martine, thank you for your sweetness and humour, thank you for making me feel at home from the beginning. Thank you for sharing that last dive of the week, just the three of us, out in the deep blue... wonderful memories. More than a diving training, that week was an unforgettable and enriching human experience. Thank you to the three of you! Hoping to see you next year, I’m keeping all these memories at the back of my head! Until then, enjoy every single day and every single dive!
Excellent service and beautiful diving.

The Cathédrale Saint-Joseph à Nouméa is a remarkable display of Neo-Gothic architecture that captures the imagination of anyone who visits. The structure's facade is a blend of timeless elegance and intricate craftsmanship, with its soaring towers and detailed stonework standing as a testament to historical artistry. Inside, the cathedral boasts a serene atmosphere, enhanced by stunning stained-glass windows that filter sunlight into a kaleidoscope of colors across the interior. The vaulted ceilings and Gothic arches add to the majestic feel, creating a sense of awe and reverence. During my visit in July 2023, I was particularly impressed by how well-preserved the cathedral is, reflecting both its cultural significance and the care it receives.
This town is seriously something else! I mean, Sunday is Sunday here. Everything is closed! I think the cruise ship was trying to play a trick on me by bringing us here on a day when even the ghosts are taking a nap. I was planning to visit this awesome cathedral, but nope, it was shut tight. I guess you could say I had a front-row seat to a very quiet town. Lesson learned: check the days of the week before visiting a place like Noumea, New Caledonia. 'Closed' really means 'closed' here!
Very historical but poor ventilation. Bring your own fan. Just before Mass began, the church bells were rung for 10 to 15 minutes. Church has high vantage point over the city. Beautiful stained glass of saints and outside a magnificent Joan of Arc statute.
Impressive cathedral in the middle of Nouméa. Definitely worth visiting.
Very old Roman catholic cathedral looking gorgeous! Lots of stained glass windows with biblical figurines. Cathedral us not always open, so need to look for hours to visit inside. There is a statue of Joan de Arc in armour that was gifted to the cathedral in 1901. This cathedral sort of reminded me Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Rouen but without the spires on the tops of the towers and much smaller. If you will keep going up, you can se a panoramic view of thé Noumea’s port and it is worth it! It is a short 10 min walk up the hill.
Enjoyed my visit here. Worthwhile if you’re checking out the nearby museum or stopping the bus interchange
It is a beautiful Cathedral, but I'm wondering why St Josephs statue is front and centre in the Church? There is no crucifix that I could see!
Beautiful church, a must see, great views
