No matter what, if you enjoy tramping, the pinnacles are a must do. It is stunning!!! Please ensure you take layers as this is a sub alpine environment. If you are planning to stay overnight, you must book to stay at the hut on the DOC WEB SITE.
We went towards coromandel peninsula stunning scenery forest looks fantastic
We have managed to do this hike up to the pinnacles a few times. It's really an amazing day hike, nice to take a short break up at the hut before the last climb to the top. Beautiful views. Plenty of small camping sites if you want to spend a few days in the area. In summer time there are some nice swimming holes to enjoy.
Beautiful forest with nice camping and (short and long) hiking options. Trip up to the Pinnacles is highly recommended!
Beautiful area with bright green trees. Recommended for hiking going up takes 2-3 hours depending on the person highly recommended. The hut is in great condition, and the pinnacles hike is highly recommended.
What a stunning hike to the Pinnacles. Plenty of cute swing bridges with stunning views at every turn. It rained the entire time we hiked and even still it was gorgeous.
Lovely walks around broken hill
Pinnacles walk is always a treat

I recently visited the Gold Stamper in Coromandel, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! The highlight was the lovely walk over the stream to the viewing point—such a beautiful and serene path! The scenery was breathtaking, and the sound of the water made it even more enjoyable. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, sharing fascinating stories about the gold mining history of the area. It’s a perfect spot for anyone who loves nature, history, or just a peaceful day out. I highly recommend visiting the Gold Stamper if you're in Coromandel. You won’t be disappointed!
Fantastic peace of history is the last functional gold stamp in New Zealand. You can walk around the grounds to see New Zealands largest waterwheel that helps operate the gold stamp. Then take the short tour for $5-10 through the stamp to see it operating just like the old days. Staff were extremely pationate about sharing the history of the site and what the old miners used to do to extract gold from the region. I would highly recommend stopping in and doing the short tour of the Coromandel Gold Stamp.
Ann-Marie gave us a fantastic tour through the history and function of the machine. What's special is that it's not a replica or a highly polished machine, but rather is shown in its well-maintained, everyday condition. Also fascinating is New Zealand's largest waterwheel, which powers the other machines (except for the rammer). It's definitely worth experiencing for yourself; it can also be easily combined with other local activities. Greetings from Switzerland
Wonderful visit to the Gold stamp. Amazing to see and hear how our heritage is being preserved for the future. Ann-marie was a wonderful guide - very knowledgeable and interesting.
Great to see the Stamper open again & only $5 entry. Such an amazing historical asset back up and running. Great tour guide with lots of knowledge to share.
Such a wonderful look back in time on how the battery worked over 100 years ago. So good to see it reopened and a piece of history saved! Will definitely come back again!
Definitely worth it to spend an hour here. Ann Marie gives you a great in depth guided tour. Few hands on things which is cool. A lot of history here. Keep up the good work
If you have a fascination with gold this is an entertaining and informative place to go. A lot of history and actual working equipment to see operating then you get an opportunity to try your hand at gold panning which is harder than it looks. You get to keep any gold you find and take it home.

The square kauri tree is approximately 1200 years old, with a rare square trunk that is tall and majestic. It only takes a 10-minute walk to reach the viewing platform, where you can admire the kauri tree up close.
Very small walk to see a natural attraction and great wee forest walk. Beautiful
It's a tree, buried deep in the bush up a gravel road. But it isn't just any tree - it's a ~1100 year old being that creates it's own eco system. It's majestic and imposing. Just standing to listen to the breeze and the birds, and enjoying the view, humbled by the presence of something that stood on this land before humans discovered New Zealand existed is a magical experience.
I finally found it, second time over on NZ. The signage is now great. A easy 100m stroll, up a few steps. Please be sure to clean your shoes both ways please.
Secluded. Easy to miss the signpost. Shortest walk ever I have done. About 5 minutes steep walk leading to 1200 years old unusual shaped Kauri. If you are in the area, it would be worth a shortstop. You may be interested in visiting a water garden nearby.
The tree itself and the view are beautiful but we had high expectations and to be honest, they didn't live up to it. The bad road conditions made the experience even less appealing.
Need to drive whole 10 minutes on a rocky & dusty & narrow mountain road to get there (from highway). And the entrence was sooo easy to miss, we drive back and forth at least 3 times to find the correct parking space. But the tree itself is really huge, we made a few wishes in front of the tree, that's the only purpose drive me there, and hopefully it works. Overall, a little bit hard to get there, the tree itself was quite cool. ps, guys, leave the fence alone, don't carve anything on it!
Beautiful Kauri tree and only a short bush walk to get there. Shoe cleaning station for kauri dieback needs improving and more signage as the parking and spot are easy to miss. Quite a few stairs to reach viewing platform. Always cool to see our amazing unique flora regardless.

Awesome Carolyn!! Even if you think you know what you are doing take the time to drop by and see Carolyn she is awesome and knows all the update information on local tracks, roads and adventure things to do. Thank you so much Carolyn for your excellent advice we did what you recommended and had an amazing time. We would have missed it if it wasn’t for you which means we returned to Coromandel Town and visited more shops and cafes after. Thanks again!
Lovely spot. They have rental clubs, but bring your own if you can. Glad the course is here!
Played here twice this week. I absolutely loved it. Such a natural course, great tee boxes, tricky greens but forgiving rough. Love the pay and play. Can’t wait to play it again.
I love the coromandel golf course , played on it many times . Love the people friendly always. Most importantly my mum was a member there and she passed 2020 while we where in lockdown for covid of cancer and now we have a seat in memory of our beautiful mum Valda Phillips at the club so special. Thanks to the club for allowing us to put it up there .
Nice place to get some local information staff is really helpful mostly old people are working packed with local area knowledge and toilet was clean.
A wonderful and helpful welcome from Lynne who sorted us out with some hire clubs, a few balls and set us on our way. What a great course, plenty to think about. Well looked after by volunteers, it’s a credit to their team. Great value for money, in fact, a slightly higher fee for 18 holes would be fully justified. Just sorry we could only play once. Thanks again from 2 Scottish visitors.
Volunteers were very busy. Busy wee place in Summer. Great that toilets are attached. Lovely town. Love the old Meatkeepers store
On Saturday 6/4/2024, I visited Coromandel Information Centre where I met a very lovely lady. She gave me lots of useful information about Coromandel and had a friendly chat with me. Look for that lovely lady at Coromandel Information Centre of you happen to go there for a relaxing holiday.

A must do walk beautiful vies I found a little beach along the way. Very steep access but worth the effort to get to. Did a beach clean up and enjoyed being on a beach people really come to
Google maps seems to have updated it's timing. Took about 1.30 hours from Coromandel, 35 km on gravel road. Had to cross about 200mm of water and a few muddy areas - maybe cause it's winter The hike itself was beautiful but I had to turn around a bit before the lookout as I didn't feel safe anymore (a lot of fallen trees on the pathway). Enjoyed the view on a bench for an hour or so and turned around - it was nice
This was a fantastic walk. The scenery was stunning. Best to do it on a sunny day if possible as it brings out the colours.
Wonderful walk. Mostly gentle inclines with a steep descent into Poley Bay and equally steep ascent out. Spectacular views - make sure you check out The Lookout. 20km return - a bit long if not done much walking. Stony Bay to Lookout and back is good.
This stunning walk provides panoramic views from beginning to end. Get back to the untouched true New Zealand while exploring the last frontier. This walk is suitable for most, with a reasonable level of fitness required. You may also enjoy the challenging mountain bike track available for the more capable. I would recommend going with a tour company for many safety reasons including the narrow gravel roads and that they provide local knowledge along the tour. No matter how you experience it, this walkway is truely #goodforyoursoul
Wow, still impressed by this beautiful part of Coromandel. It’s definitely worth the drive on a gravel road to get there. It’s not that bad I had a toyota estima and it was ok! I would definitely recommend that walkway for anyone at any age! Sunset here is incredible, i mean look at the pics 🤩😎🤗
This walk is epic.. some of the best views you’ll see in the North Island. You can do the full 10km (20 return) track from Fletcher’s bay to Stony bay and vice versa but I was recommended to start at Fletcher’s bay and walk to a lookout which is signposted as the ‘look out’ en route. It’s 5km in, so half way and avoids two massive hills on the Stony Bay side. The lookout has 360 degree views and the walk there has a few steep points but it’s stunning with great views. Few tips: - take plenty of water! The water in the region isn’t drinkable and you must boil it - the drive there is long, windy and gravel. Be aware that it’s not the nicest drive and to be cautious of other cars as it’s quite narrow but you’ll be fine! - there is a Ford just past Port Jackson (a campsite 15mins before Fletcher’s Bay) - my Holden astra made the trip, if that helps!
This is a spectacular 12km day walk from Stony Bay to Fletcher Bay on well graded tracks. The views are amazing!
