Spent two days here exploring as many of the hiking trails as we possibly could within the time period and absolutely need to come back and do more. The scenery alters from beach, to rainforest to open grasslands and there is so much wildlife to see. Make sure you have a good set of hiking boots and bring food and water for your day each day as you won't find much there otherwise. It is a good half hour drive from the entry gate into the main Tidal River center, but there are plenty of places to stop and explore along the way as well. An amazing area which will have incredibly strong memories for a long time. The whole area is simply breathtaking.
Definitely one of the best landscapes in Victoria. Wilsons Prom has it all - even the journey to get there is beautiful. I camped at Tidal River (and got to see so many meteors 🥹), wandered around the beaches, and hiked up Mt Oberon. Already missing this place and can’t wait to go back!
I came for the nature, and left rejuvenated. Wilsons Prom is lovely and unfolds in layers - beaches that hum with coastal wind, forest trails and granite boulders. Every terrain shift felt like a new rhythm; dry bushland giving way to rainforest gullies, then unveiling into turquoise coves and squeaky white sand. Tidal River was grounding with its reflective pools, orange-tinged rocks and the kind of silence that makes you listen differently. Sealers Cove was a lush journey worth every step. And Squeaky Beach was pure sensory joy! The sand "squeaks" with every step, and the surf catches the light like it's inviting you in. I enjoyed watching the shorebirds pace the wet sand, chirping and circling with intent. They appeared to be part of the rhythm. This wasn't just a physical visit; it was a sensory and emotive experience of textures, contrasts and moods. For those exploring further, sights like Mount Oberon, Whisky Bay and Little Waterloo Bay offer even more layers of terrain and perspectives.
Wilsons Promontory National Park: An Absolute Must-Visit for the Wild at Heart! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 If you're looking for the ultimate destination for dramatic coastal scenery and abundant native wildlife in Victoria, Wilsons Prom is an absolute must-visit. This place truly transports you to another level of natural beauty. The coastal walks are monumental. As you can see in my photo, the dramatic, moody skies only add to the spectacle of the wide, sandy beaches. It’s perfect for reflection, especially with the incredible light playing off the ocean. But what really stood out was the unique geology and the wildlife! Stumbling upon the lichen-covered granite boulders was like finding abstract art in nature. The striking orange colour of the lichen against the dark stone is pure Australian drama, highlighting the raw, rugged environment here. And of course, the accessible wildlife is a huge bonus! Keep your eyes peeled for the Prom’s most lovable resident, the Wombat. Getting a glimpse of these little tanks grazing in the low light is pure magic and a reminder of the unspoiled nature of the park. I can't recommend it highly enough, and I’ll definitely be back!
The day I went with a mate was pretty cold, wet and cloudy. Wanted to go to South Point, but the road was closed. Went to Mt Oberon, though, and loved that. Hiked (more walked) to the top and saw the coastline occasionally when the clouds thinned out. Was still amazing despite the wet day and really not that difficult of a hike, took us an hour to get to the top from the car park.
Scenery is beautiful, infrastructure and information below par. No maps or posted info re track closures. 3 staff sitting at computers advising visitors to download QR codes for info .. would be doable WITH internet connection 😕 so fairly unhelpful really .. number of visitors in the car park trying to help each other out. Most pretty frustrated with the lack of support or direction. Can I suggest a consult with Tasmania Park Services, they're proactive, visitors are welcome and well supported, ahead all the way.
Absolutely stunning place — one of the most beautiful spots in Victoria! The beaches are crystal clear, the hikes are super scenic, and there’s wildlife everywhere (we saw wombats, wallabies and emus up close). Mount Oberon lookout is 100% worth the climb for the views, and Squeaky Beach really does squeak when you walk on it. The park is clean, well-maintained and perfect for hiking, camping or just a chill day trip. Make sure to pack layers and snacks — the weather changes fast. Can’t wait to come back! 🌿🏖️
Vast and breathtakingly beautiful vistas, and wildlife, everywhere. Numerous walking and hiking trails ranging from an easy boardwalk stroll to several overnight hiking trails with base camps. Clean and tidy toilets and hot water showers. There is a coin operated laundry, free barbecues and camp kitchens. Everything is super well organised and managed. Great visitor centre with knowledgeable staff and rangers in attendance 365 days a year. The little general store serves a mean “Promburger”. There are several cabins and units as well as 484 campsites, often with access to the drinking water. Many spots are suitable for big rigs and large caravans, and 20 sites also have access to the power.

Pristine white beach with sand that squeaks underfoot, with rock formations, clear waters & surf.
Slide 1 of 8
Stunning white beach that has a very specific squeaky sound when you walk through the dry loose sand. Initially walking close to the water we wondered what the excitement was about, but then as we passed through the dry sand to make our way onto a further track, we got to experience the sound effects. Looks like a wonderful beach for a picnic, and swimming, but with the named Picnic Bay just beyond, we felt that we actually had to stop and eat there instead! Great family beach.
Great beach with the family! Even when it is a windy day! Our girls loved playing in the river and around the boulders! We spend 3 hours down at the beach and found a sheltered spot to have lunch that we brought along!
The beach is not squeaky, been here twice and never heard a squeaky once. Maybe I am unlucky. Super long and open beach, very windy but has some amazing rock and boulder formations, especially far left and right. You can also boulder here however keep in mind the tide times, as a lot of climbs will be unavailable during high tide.
It wasn't squeaky when I visited. Maybe because it rained before this? But after that, even the dry part of the sand did not make any sound. It was beautiful however.
Squeaky Beach is unreal! The sand actually squeaks when you walk on it — it feels like something out of a movie. The water is crystal clear, perfect for a dip after hiking or exploring the Prom. The huge granite boulders are great for photos, and the view from the lookout is amazing. It’s a bit of a walk from the car park, but totally worth it. Bring snacks, sunscreen, and maybe a towel — you’ll want to stay longer than you planned! 🏝️☀️
The Best Beach in the World! ⛱️🌊🐙🦀 Keep it beautiful! Take everything you bring with you, and leave only footprints.
Had fun here in early April recently. It squeaks! Was here previously 40 years ago. Fun and enjoyable then and still fun and enjoyable this time.
The white, powdery sands are different from the usual thing seen on beaches here..and the surf is strong. But we could still people in the water. Its a lovely beach for kids to be at.

A beautiful beach with sand stretching wide between two picturesque mountain cliffs. Shallow waters near shore and also good for surfing at the right time.
Norman beach is a very beautiful beach at the tidal river, Wilson's promontory. The water was calm ( can vary on weather ) and beach was clean. Life guard flags were there as well. You can also relax at the river connecting to the beach which is also as relaxing
Very spacious beach, but I have seen better. Maybe it was the weather but it didn’t steal my heart.
Expansive views and a clean stretch of sand. The water was unbelievably blue, and unlike anything else I've seen in Victoria. Worth the 20 minute walk from the car park. Simply a jaw-dropping experience. 10/10 would come again.
We can view the skull island from this beach. If we go to the walk that goes above the beach, the view of the entire beach was splendid, few people were surfing and it was surrounded by rocks, plants and sea. All in one location. You can start the board walk from the Tidal car park and can walk till the beach through any of the walking trails
Good sea side beach, including a river location where you can also swim and enjoy!
Stunning views and a pleasant walk from the visitors centre. The beach itself is quite exposed and can result in a huge sand blast if it's a particularly windy day. The sand is almost untouched and the bay is surrounded by wonderfully green cliffs. Plenty of bird wildlife in the area.
One of the most beautiful beaches in Victoria!!! I won’t forget how stunning the sunset here! I had a great time here, just sitting and watching the waves and the sun made me relax and calm. I will definitely go here again in the future for sure!!

5 min walk from car park to the beach . View platform/lookout 5-10 min walk up hills. Great for taking photos with the big red rock. Recommend plan time 30min - 1 hour.
Beautiful beach, bigger than squeaky beach and the water is lovely. The rock formations are amazing, sand is smooth, great spot for a day at the beach
Absolutely stunning beach! Whisky Bay is a hidden gem inside Wilsons Promontory National Park. The walk from the carpark is only about 400 meters and takes you through beautiful native bushland. When you reach the beach, you’re rewarded with golden sand, massive granite boulders, and crystal-clear water. It’s a peaceful spot, great for relaxing, taking photos, or just soaking in the natural beauty. If you're lucky, you might spot kangaroos or colorful birds nearby. The water is usually calm, but keep an eye out for sudden waves—there are no lifeguards.
One of the nicest beaches in the state, a small but interesting walk from the carpark and the beach is one of the most picturesque beach spots in Victoria. If you're not in high season, but just a 20°C day at the end of August, you have a great chance to have this beach all to yourself for hours.
Beautiful little beach framed by boulders. Met the most adorable, friendly wombat in the car park. Walked up to the lookout point between Whisky Bay and Picnic Bay, worth it for the stunning views. Wouldn't spend a day here but we'll worth a quick stop when visiting Wilson's Prom
It’s a drive to get there - but wow what a picture perfect beach and surf ….. swim walk
Stunning beach, amazing views. well worth a visit
Its a beautiful beach sorrounded by rocks and mountains. Around 200mt from the car park this beach is easily accessible. If you are taking pram or stroller leave it just outside where the sandy area starts. Its picturesque place not far from the wildlife watching area (5km away). U can easily change the swimwears at the rocks.

Sealers Cove is definitely one of the most stunning places to go in Victoria. Beautiful walking tracks and breathtaking views. Highly recommend it to get away and think.
Great physical and, more importantly, mental test for a day walk of 20 km up and down mostly through tropical rainforests. The last 2km boardwalk through a swamp before reaching the beach is a plus! The beach was not at its best as we came at the high tide, and so with many smelly seaweed bunches 😅 The greatest reward was a dip into the cool water and saw a small stingray getting along! By the way, it was a bit hassle on the way back worrying about missing the shuttle bus 🚎, while walking was a real mental challenge 😂
Best hiking trip we have been on. Leisurely 10km hike from Telegraph saddle with ample camping spot that is next to a pristine beach!
The walk to Sealers Cove is one of my favorites at Wilson's Promontory. It meanders across the prom through tree fern glades, temperate rainforest, a board walk that comes out on the other side. Approximately 18km return.
Heaven on Earth. I've travelled the world and there is no place I know as beautiful. The boardwalk in is magical leading to a beach only accessible by foot or boat. In the middle of peak season I arrived and it was me and three people swimming. It's a good day walk from Tidal River. We left at 8am and we're back by 2pm with stops along the way and an hour for lunch.
Absolutely beautiful secluded cove. 5m walk from Saddle carpark but very much worth it.
We walked to Sealers Cove and back in one day. It took us about 3 hours each way. There is a camp site there. You have to pre book.
Great camping spot for anyone looking for an easy overnight hike that can be completed in a few hours, even with kids.

A great place to see wild kangaroos and emus! Apparently wombats too but I didn't find any! It's a really short work so super easy and there were lots of them around! It seems like it's best to go first thing in the morning at around sunrise, as there are many more animals then!
My first time seeing emus roaming free outside a zoo! And there were sooooo many kangaroos. Countless. Unfortunately we didn't find any wombats. The place itself was nice broad for a walk around. It was also quite windy so be prepared if you come during colder seasons. There's a parking lot right at the entrance.
Well worth it. Go just before sunset and you will see loads of wombats they are so cute and do not care that you are stood right there. Lots of kangaroos and wallabies and saw a few emus running around.
Prom Wildlife Walk - Prime Spot for Kangaroos and Emus! This is an absolute MUST-DO walk right near the entrance of Wilsons Promontory National Park. It's a super easy, flat 2.3km loop across open grasslands, perfect for all ages and mobility levels. The reason to visit, however, is the wildlife. We were incredibly lucky and had multiple sightings of kangaroos and emus grazing on the plains! Getting photos of these iconic Australian birds and marsupials in their natural, vast habitat was fantastic. For any photographers, I highly recommend timing your visit for dusk. The golden light over the grasslands combined with the active wildlife creates stunning photo opportunities. It’s an unforgettable Australian experience and one of the best spots to guarantee a native animal sighting at the Prom.
A great short walk at the old aerodrome, now turned into a wildlife reserve! It is best to visit before the sunset, when all animals are out, and the lighting is very good for photos. If you visit at midday - you will hardly spot anyone except couple of emus...
Loved this walk! Super easy and peaceful — perfect if you want to spot wildlife without doing a big hike. We saw heaps of kangaroos, emus and even a few wombats just grazing in the open fields. The trail is flat and well-marked, great for all fitness levels. Go around sunset for the best chance to see animals up close (and to catch the prettiest light over the hills). Bring a camera and some patience — it’s such a magical part of the Prom. 🦘🌿
GO HERE IF U WANT TO SEE ANIMALS!!! We saw 7 wombats, hundreds of kangaroos and 5 emus. SIMPLY AMAZING
This is an excellent easy walk to see wildlife, we saw wombats, wallabies, kangaroos and emus. Best to go early evening to see the animals. The walk takes about forty minutes, no hills and a well maintained path

A great place to watch the sunset over the ocean down on Wilsons Prom. Incredibly peaceful and quite spectacular. When we went we were actually the only ones there which made it even more special.
Just a few steps to lookout, no walk required. Land levels down gradually to sea level so you can't see the water below you. Gorgeous views, though not any more significantly gorgeous than the views you can get from Phillip Island or Mornington shores which are closer to CBD. Similar views to Glennie Lookout, just a different angle.
Great ocean views and of the islands around Wilson’s Promontory
Amazing view! Will definitely comeback here. ♥️ Worth the long drive.
Greate spot to stop to view the ocean if you are heading to Wilson prom.
Beautiful spot even at the end of the day. Loved the sunset. Looks like a great place to stay and camp.

Probably one of the top 5 best beaches in Victoria that has remained fairly untouched and unspoiled! It is well sheltered against wind too! Worth every step of the hike to the beach!
Intermediate track, but all the 13km one way worth it!! The beach is amazing with a spectacular sunrise!
One of the most unspoiled beaches in The Prom. Unbelievable sceneries. 12km hike is absolutely worth it.
This has to be one of the best beaches in Victoria amazing blue water with some of the best sand you have ever seen. It was a great place to camp too with great protection on offer from the weather.
On December 17 1896 Captain Joshua Slocum anchored here aboard the "SPRAY" a 37 foot sloop he sailed alone around the world. Read his book !

Do expect to walk for around 20+ minutes towards the actual location but it is definitely worth the adventure. There are a few spots that are uphill so do be careful. I also suggest bringing a toboggan so you can go down the mountains of sand at various points. Have a wonderful time!
While having a large area of sand dunes is very special, I do have to say that the walk to the sand dunes is fairly long and can become difficult at times! Whether it's worthwhile really depend on your thinking but honestly it’s kinda like a big sandy area, nothing deeper. The last part climbing up to the dunes can be kinda difficult and directions along the way can be improved. So if you do wanna visit here please do allow a lot of time (1.5-2 hrs) as it’s a pretty long walk from the car park!
Big Drift is absolutely breathtaking—it feels like stepping straight into a scene from Dune. The vast sand dunes are surreal and cinematic, creating a truly unforgettable atmosphere. It’s one of those natural wonders that leaves you amazed from the moment you arrive.
This walk is a beautiful contrast! You start in a little forest track, before turning into a pleasant, level, grassy track next to some paddocks, with only a few small, gentle inclines along the way. It’s an easy-going entry, perfect for all ages and fitness levels (even my 82 year old Dad conquered this!). The atmosphere completely changes for the final section, where you hit the spectacular deep, powdery sand. The ascent is tough - expect to sink in! We found it easier to veer left out of the trees and find a less-used path to crest the dune. Come prepared for sand in every crevice, but the views of the Big Drift are absolutely breathtaking!
It's a 2km walk to the big drift from the stockyards carpark. It says 40 minutes, but that would be at a very slow pace... the track is interesting and kind of feels like it’s leading nowhere but persist... it's worth it. The Big Drift is so interesting... yes, it's sand, but the sheer scale is unlike anything else you're going to see in Victoria. Be warned though, the final push up to the dunes and then to the top of the dune is a workout!
Absolutely stunning lookout... It gives the feel of a desert in Wilson Prom... Absolutely loved it. If you come here around sunset, the shots are incredible.
This was a great place to visit. Just 2km walking. Once you reach there, you will see a big drift with a perfect view.
Try to be here around sunset for your photos. Get a stick to lift yourselves up the sand slopes. 25-40 mins walk one way depending on your fitness.

There were no-one when we visited, the walk is around 2 kms and in plains, we were able to witness Emu during the walk, it was like a wetland with so many bushes and trees around. The dunes were visible during the walk as well. There were several plain rocks in the beach. Overall the view was splendid
Magnificent wide, shallow beach - about 200m from the dunes to the water at low-tide. A fair walk (1.2km) from the car-park. Brisk and bracing in winter, in summer much more tolerable, with one HUGE proviso: the march flies! Never before have I experienced so many of these vicious buggers in one place. There are (at least) three different varieties, each bigger and more ferocious that the next. If there is no sea-breeze to dissuade them they will hound you all the way from the dunes to the water's edge (and at times, beyond!). Literally clouds of them, all baying for your blood - and often finding it. I once took a can of insect-spray and that slayed thousands of them, but for each one that fell, it seemed like another three turned up to take their place. So be warned and be prepared!
Nice little walk in to a pretty beach Would recommend staying out of the water if your not a strong swimmer Has strong currents
This beach is gorgeous and untouched. The ‘short walk’ to access the beach can feel much longer on hot summer days. Swimming was so relaxing and quite safe in the conditions we encountered. We have had the beach to ourselves both visits.
An interesting and easy walk through coastal heath and scrub across a large swampy, basin to a remote beach. Lots of bird life along the way. 👌
Just a short walk from car park.
My fave beach walk globally. I have seen flocks (?) of emu wandering along the beach, seen a kangaroo in the surf and collected loads of junk.

Beautiful walk through bushes from the car park next to Darby River to this beautiful beach. There were so many big flies at the beach, however.
Visited late August 2023 It’s about 1km to the beach It’s pretty isolated , I saw no one there , there’s big shells in the beach . One the way there , Darby river is visible and it’s very calm and reflective You can see the dunes from the beach , very relaxing atmosphere , there’s a interesting rock formation here as well
Distance from the parking lot is around 1 Km. a pleasant stroll along the banks of the river among the dunes. fantastic for surfing, thanks to the abundance of swell. excellent views from a big beach. If you're planning to visit during the summer, it's a good idea to pack insect repellent, as there are a lot of horse flies in the area.
I strongly recommend this place as it is quiet and has beautiful sea views. Not sure it is safe for surfing though.
Crazy hidden beach completely deserted with spectacular beach and sand dune. Getting to the top of the sand dune can be difficult, yet worth the experience and amazing views.
Excellent sunset . Excellent rocks formation with river tuning in the bottom and joint to the ocean .
It is nice beach 🏖. This beach has very awesome views and swimming side.

The walk to tongue point is absolutely stunning. It takes roughly 2 hours to get there. For the first half, trees provide some shade however as you descend to the point, it becomes very exposed so I’d highly recommend wearing lots of sunscreen, a hat and clothes that protect you from the sun. There are no toilets along the way or places to get water so make sure you consider that. I’d say about 1.5-2L per person. If you’re feeling adventurous, scramble down at the end for a swim!
One of our favourite walks in the prom. We went via Darby river and added on fairy cove which took us about 2.45 hrs The views at each part of the trail were great so many great photo opportunities. Good for all ages but the tongue point is at a cliff point so best for little ones to stay close otherwise over 5/6 may be best. The start is quite steep but otherwise relatively flat ( excluding fairy cove). Parts of the track do need some maintenance but otherwise great.
Beautiful scenic hike all the way. Well worth Took the 4km trek from Darby River Carpark. Took us 1hr20min - slow walk up short steep section then mostly flat. Return took 1 hour normal pace no stopping.
The other reviews are right, the first part is a constant uphill. But once you get to the place where the bush breaks and you see the sea, it’s pretty much flat except for two sections of down/uphills to reach the end. About 2.5 hour return if you get to the very tip of tongue point. Really enjoyed this walk (besides the first uphill)! Saw a wallaby when I was walking back 😍 some pockets with stunning views, a pity the sun wasn’t out or it would’ve been amazing.
Really enjoyed the hike to this lookout point. Took us about an hour to get there from the Darby River parking lot. The first 20 minutes are all up hill and not so much fun. Once you get near the crest and you feel the cool sea breeze get ready for some awesome views. The trail is in pretty good shape but you have to pay attention in a couple of spots and I wouldn't want to do it in flip flops. Had a great lunch at tongue point and were harassed by a seagull and his bigger mate. Saw maybe 10 people on the trail on a Friday in November. Recommended.
The walk to the Tongue Point was refreshing. We took 3 hours to return back to the Darby River car park. We stopped at several spots for views and sat down at the last point, listening to the waves crashing at rocks. It's an easy walk for my husband. I would say medium since I struggled a bit at the beginning. Worth the effort!
For 4km Hiking is nothing compare to the views a long hike. A bit steep from the car park but after u pass there it was simple hiking trail. Don forgot to bring a lot of water, it’s one way hiking Put your map to Darby River Car Park that’s where you start your hiking.
Not too difficult! A friend of mine was hiking for the first time and managed to do it without much complaining :)
