So it was the first 1st August 2025 when I had my visit. So peaceful and tranquil it was a perfect moment. Views for miles literally and could still see some canola fields that had not been harvested yet. Plenty of parking and bbq picnic area is just half way up on the right hand side.
It is a wonderful place to look the york city from top. You can easily park your car over there and enjoy the scenic beauty pf nature.
Mount Brown Lookout, offering a breathtaking view over the entire town of York. The vast landscape below made me feel as if the whole world was at my feet, evoking the spirit of a solo backpacker on a grand adventure.
From the top carpark there is an amazing 360degree lookout of all the canola fields, it's beautiful and worth the drive.
Perfect spot . Very nice drive . Refreshing .
Oh my gosh I highly highly highly! recommended visiting York , Western Australia and heading up to the look out . The view is amazing 😍 I chose to visit when the canola fields are out and all the patches of yellow with the green is stunning!
Lovely lookout, as far as you can see you will see beautiful yellow canola fields.
As lookouts go, this was very good. Excellent views of York township and the extensive Canola padocks. Mind blowing if they weren't past the yellow flowering period.

Great place to visit if you like car history. Only $10 concession and $12 normal
We saw this place from opposite where we were having our lunch and decided to make a visit. We were able to pay for entrance tickets on the spot and thereafter entered the museum where we spent around 30mins or so enjoying the views of the various models of cars and vehicles that were displayed in there. It was an amazing experience to see the well maintained vehicles with some dating back to many many years ago! Our 2 kids thoroughly enjoyed the visit and we took many pics with the models. Worth a visit if you are in the area!
What a fantastic spot! The York Motor Museum is packed with treasures from the legendary Ford Model T and some seriously cool old motorbikes to a jaw-dropping 1958 Porsche Cabriolet. Every corner has something that makes you stop and go “wow.” The collection is beautifully kept, and the stories behind the cars make it even better. The staff are super friendly and clearly love what they do, which adds to the whole experience. Whether you’re a car nut or just curious, this place is a must-see when in York.
I got dragged in here by my elderly father, and I admittedly was not keen. We were greeted by Jenny who was a ray of sunshine! While I'm not a great car enthusiast the array of history on display was fascinating. But I absolutely loved the stories of the original owners showing the history of particular vehicles on display. Learning about the owner, what role they played in the community, and about their families, complete with photos. This so was a real treat and I credit to this historic town.
Very beautiful place to visit. Everywhere you look, you find something unique, old, and special from cars to small things like vintage fuel cans. Very well maintained, clean, and organized. We really enjoyed it. The lady at the entrance was very friendly. You can tell that the owner has really been collecting for years and years.
It truly is a great place to send 30mins to an hour wandering thru and seeing all the treasures that they hold. I even seen BRUM 🤣. " a little yellow car named Brum from a kids TV show"
Very interesting museum, I haven’t see many of models in my life though😳
This is a great museum and you don’t have to be a car fanatic to enjoy it. There are cars and bikes that you can admire just for their sheer beauty. They really knew how to design cars back in the day. Loved the little retro caravan too. I also enjoyed reading about past owners and their families and learning how the cars arrived at the museum. Friendly staff, cheap entry and you can take as long as you like. Well worth a visit.

Lovely piece of history that just keeps standing. Views are insta-worthy. Tranquil and soothing. Lovely spot to pause and take in some nature. Great spot to take a breath and feel alive away from the rush of daily life. Heaps of ducks and other birds to watch.
I was on my way to wave rock so Put this on my stop list. Very cool bridge awesome to cross and if your game give it a shake it’s pretty fun. Parking on both sides and river views are amazing
The suspension bridge certainly does swing. Some wooden planks require maintenance and are lifting. Great views of the river and a small Church on reaching the other side (unfortunately the Church is locked during the week - open on Sundays).
Neat little suspension bridge just off the side of the nearby playground. We had a nice stroll across the bridge where we saw several campervans parked just across the river. Novel experience of walking on the suaying bridge! Lovely scenery all around...
This area has been updated recently. There is a large park with playground equipment for kids. There is also a relatively new public bathroom. Nice area for a picnic. I wish there were some eateries nearby for a coffee or snack. For these, you'd have to walk to the main street. The suspension bridge is a novelty. Be careful with your little kids when on the bridge.
Awesome spot visiting wile camping shops close by
Well done to council building this from one side of river to the town and beautiful park area.
Pretty much what the label says. A nice short stroll to the caravan parking on the south side of the river

York town hall is a beautiful historical place. There is an information center also available. P.S: Visited this place while visiting to the york flowers during the start of spring. Couldn’t visit the inside for some reason. Looks really beautiful from outside.
Stunning building. We enjoyed a walk through almost the entire hall; you can try on costumes for photos. It's a lovely town and this is the crown.
An absolute beauty of a building, appreciate the interior such as the hall as much as you would appreciate the exterior. Definitely worth the stop.
Nice and historical place to visit for learning of this town
Beautiful wedding venue. Inside and out.
The York Town Hall is now the visitors centre, which is open to the public. Come in and have a look and the original stage area and upper floor seating, the rooms around have history of York on the walls.
It was exceptionally, naturally beautiful place and met some lovely people
First stop on our York day trip. Beautiful to photograph with clean toilets. Also houses the visitor centre for information on York and surrounding areas.

A very interesting and intriguing historic landmark. It was really fascinating exploring all of the rooms and viewing the "artwork" scribed on the walls of the jail cells. It was surprising how much time we could spend here working our way through the complex seeing, and reading about the history.
Very informative introduction into the history of York and the court house. I highly Reccomend you attend one of the briefing times before looking around the courthouse. It will give you a better understanding of the rooms and areas around the courthouse. Also enjoyed looking at the artwork that can be purchased. They were also selling fruit cake.
historical place full of stuff not even massive museums in the city would have
Very friendly staff and interesting place. Our 13 yr old even enjoyed it. Bonus points for welcoming dogs on leads!
We (two adults and 3 primary school aged children) enjoyed the whole experience at the York Courthouse but were disappointed to find a gavel in one of the displays. The museum staff were unaware that British judges have never used a gavel. I hope it is removed. (I am a historian specializing in 19c crime and punishment.) The staff seem to have spent too much time watching American crime programs rather than researching facts specifically relating to the York Courthouse! Other than being subjected to the sight of a gavel (a detail which always annoys others in the field, so I know I am not alone), seeing the interior of a nineteenth century courtroom (and other parts of the complex) was a real treat.
Worth a look. Good video to watch to start off your self guided tour of this heritage listed complex. The cellblock is quite interesting and really makes you feel what it could have been like. It's important to understand the history here and you can certainly make a good start by visiting. Reasonable cover charge that goes back to the facility.
Says open 10-2 sat 25 05 2025 but closed with no reason given. Pathetic, planned day round this. Do not visit
A beautiful example of buildings of that time and a well preserved monument to Western Australia’s first inland town. The skills demonstrated in the construction of the complex are remarkable considering the harsh conditions and resources available. A wonderful step back in time enhanced by the haunting audio in the cell block. It was an audio tape right?

Beautiful building and great history . Did a weekend in york for our mum,s 91st. She lived in york in 1979 and loved it and still loves it.
Wow! Did I ever feel special when I visited the York Visitor Center. I had two beautiful employees offering to help me, and only one of them worked in the Center. Melody was amazing! She knew her history (concise version), had the right tourist info handy, and pointed in the right direction for the local bakery. Reminder that several places may be closed on a Monday so plan accordingly!
Beautiful historic building loving maintained, has the wonderful charm if yesteryear. We enjoyed climbing the old staircase to view the colourful headlight windows and the mezzanine floor along with the old film projector, leather cinema chairs and the lovely dress up room! We had such fun! The staff downstairs in the visitor information area were warm, friendly and very helpful with great suggestions.
Stunning old building, rich in history! Volunteer Andy took the time to show us through and share his incredible knowledge regarding both the history and recent events. Service above and beyond our expectations! Will definitely be exploring more. Thanks again Andy!
Nice place to see historical info. Quiet environment.
Brilliant visitor centre. The lady was very enthusiastic to help me locate the three ghost towns nearby York, went out of her way, looked up books, gave me contact details for further information and more brochures than I thought I would need, but used each one heaps. The building is amazing. Everyone I met around town were very welcoming. It's the sort of feeling you used to get all over WA 40 Yrs ago. A new perspective of a beautiful part of our great country!
Lovely little town. Went here for the York festival yesterday. The WA youth jazz orchestra was amazing!! Lovely wisteria flowers blooming everywhere. The old historic buildings are so picturesque! Rugged, historic town - i will definitely be back!!
It's good. They said it was too early for wildflowers... 10th August 2024. We saw heaps :)

Authentic museum with great displays. Well preserved space.
Great history lesson on how York evolved from the 18 century to now. Certainly, worth a visit.
Small but worth the visit. Spent a good hour or more.
Good York memories old culture and lives
Some old stuff, here
Visited the museum yesterday. Great history about York and how the area was founded. The volunteer staffer was very helpful and friendly. Lots of hands-on things for kids to do - we even played croquet on the front lawn!
I'd pay to check out this place!! Beautiful old building as many are in York. I'd come back to check out the inside of this place if it was possible. Maybe for the right price for the ongoing restorations to keep this icon preserved for the ages...
A visit to the award-winning Residency Museum gives you a fantastic insight into the region's history. It's an ideal way to soak up some of York's great atmosphere and find out fascinating stories about local people and places. The Museum is full of lively, colourful new exhibitions, professionally designed and covering a diverse range of themes. Built during the 1850's as the Depot Superintendent's Quarters, this historic house is now the last remaining part of York's Convict Depot. It then became the official home of the town's Resident Magistrate hence the name, the Residency. During the early twentieth century it was used as part of the Old York Hospital, later being saved from disrepair by the efforts of the York Society. It opened as a Municipal Museum in 1972 and continues to be managed by the Shire of York, with help from community volunteers.

Cool gallery space with plenty of display space. Bright lighting, white walls, picture rails and mobile stands. Toilets are clean and presentable.
Possibly the best coffee I have tasted in WA or anywhere..Mouth watering home made pastries and relish too. Friendly table service. Alfresco or snack inside. Stunning artwork for sale in their gallery.
Lovely ambience through the whole building. Art gallery gift shop, beautiful gardens and a delicious Chai lattè. Recommend.
Great gallery in beautiful York. Staff very friendly and next to a cafe that makes great coffee.
Nice back room for a group chat. Staff friendly and efficient and once order placed don't have to wait in line... they deliver to your table. Feels good.
Really sad to see the cafe & art gallery space are closed & up for lease.
Great coffee, amazing art and gifts. Always something happening, new installations every few months. Music too. A real cultural gem... in a heritage building... in historical York. What more could you ask for?
So great to see a gallery of this calibre in a regional town. It's well curated, yet not so lofty that it fails to meet the locals' and visitors' interest. It's accessible and supported by a great shop 'Botanicalia' and cafe, where you can buy designer craft & art - perfect gift shopping. So delighted to see excellent WA makers displayed here, such as Bethamy Linton's silversmithing and jewellery. We need more galleries and high quality contemporary craft & design shops like this. Well done, York!
